Extricate is the 12th album by post-punk band the Fall. It was made immediately after bandleader Mark E. Smith divorced guitarist Brix Smith. Brix's departure helped define the sound of this album: her background vocals and relatively pop-oriented guitar, which had become mainstays of The Fall, are noticeably absent in this release. In one of the more unusual events in the group's career, she was replaced by founding former member Martin Bramah, who had previously left the group in 1979 to form his own group Blue Orchids.
Lead-off single Telephone Thing could have been seen as a nod to the Manchester scene of the time as the sound is quite similar to the dance-influenced music that was being released by Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses in 1989. However, its origins were in Smith's previous collaboration with Coldcut on their track I'm in Deep, which, in turn, led to Coldcut producing the track and Black Monk Theme Part II, one of two tracks by 60s garage band The Monks to be covered on the album (the other being Black Monk Theme “ The Fall retitled both tracks). Elsewhere, Bramah, appearing on his first Fall album since Live at the Witch Trials adds a distinctly raw, even rockabilly sound to some of the songs. However, the album's best-known track was one of the least typical of the group's catalogue: Bill Is Dead, a slow-paced tender love song which topped John Peel's Festive Fifty that year, the only occasion in the DJ's lifetime when his favourite band would do so. Although originally conceived by Smith and Craig Scanlon as a parody of The Smiths, Smith changed lyrical tack when he decided Scanlon's music deserved better, delivering a highly personal lyric. However, at Smith's insistence, it was not released as a single.

Following significant population growth, especially after the London and South Western Railway reached the town in 1849, the area became a municipal borough with the Pepper Pot as its town hall in 1875. In May 1907 tenders were invited from contractors to extend the public hall in Bridge Street to the west to create new municipal buildings for the borough. The extension was built in red brick with stone dressings and the work was completed in 1908. The design of the enlarged structure involved an asymmetrical main frontage with ten bays facing onto Bridge Street
the central section of three bays, which slightly projected forward, featured arcading on the ground floor, three sash windows with stone surrounds on the first floor and a pediment above with an oculus in the tympanum. The left hand section featured, in the central bay, a doorway with a canopy on the ground floor and a panel containing the borough coat of arms on the first floor. The right hand section featured, in the end bay which slightly projected forward, a round headed doorway on the ground floor and a tri-part sash window on the first floor with a pediment above.
The building continued to serve as the meeting place of Godalming Borough Council for much of the 20th century, but ceased to be the local seat of government when Waverley Borough Council was formed with its headquarters in Guildford in 1974. Waverley Council moved to new council offices in The Burys just behind the borough hall in 1980. The borough hall subsequently became the meeting place for Godalming Town Council.
Works of art in the borough hall include a portrait by Godfrey Kneller of the locally-born sailor, Admiral Sir John Balchen, who became governor of the Greenwich Naval Hospital in March 1743

In the early 11th century, Bacharach had its first documentary mention. It may have been that as early as the 7th century, the kingly domain passed into Archbishop of Cologne Kunibert's ownership
pointing to this is a Kunibertskapelle (chapel) on the spot where now stands the Wernerkapelle. The Vögte of the Cologne estate were the Elector of the Palatinate, who over time pushed back Cologne's influence.
Caring for and maintaining Bacharach's building monuments, spurred on in the early 20th century by the Rhenish Association for Monument Care and Landscape Preservation (Rheinischer Verein für Denkmalpflege und Landschaftsschutz) which took on the then highly endangered town wall and Stahleck Castle ruin jobs, and the great dedication of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate to the Wernerkapelle have seen to it that Bacharach is still a jewel of the Rheinromantik and a multifaceted documentary site of mediaeval architecture on the Middle Rhine. The Wernerkapelle ruin is under monumental protection and before it a plaque has been placed recalling the inhuman crimes against Jewish residents and also containing a quotation from a prayer by Pope John XXIII for a change in Christians' thinking in their relationship

In his iconic song, Paul McCartney sang about the barbers where the Beatles used to get their hair cut in Liverpool. The barber shop, Bioletti's, like nearly all of the places referred to in the song, was not on Penny Lane itself but on Smithdown Place, overlooking the ˜roundabout' with the bus shelter.
A change of ownership meant that Bioletti's became Tony Slavin's , but it is still a barber shop (and now also a ladies salon). Where else could you have your hair done at a reasonable price and share in Beatles history at the same time?
The Ladies salon (upstairs) used to be a flat in the Beatles' days, but the barber shop downstairs still looks much the same as when the Beatles used to sit and wait for a trim.
Beatles fans are always welcome “ either to have their hair done in the same place as the Beatles
.. or to stop and say hello. Visitors are welcome to look around, take photographs, and sit in the barbers' chairs. In return, donations for the Linda McCartney Centre are gratefully accepted. There are also some unique souvenirs available to buy.

The minuscule home was created in the 16th century and remained in use until 1900, when the tenant was a 6-foot-3-inch (1.91 m) fisherman named Robert Jones. The rooms were too small for him to stand up in fully and he was eventually forced to move out when the council declared the house unfit for human habitation, along with a number of properties. The house is still owned by his descendants, having been passed to female relatives since Robert's sons showed a lack of interest in the business.
After some persuasion by the then editor of the North Wales Weekly News, Roger Dawson (the owner) and the editor toured the United Kingdom in order to declare the house The Smallest House in Great Britain, a status that was later confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records.
The house has a floor area of 3.05 by 1.8 metres (10.0 by 5.9 ft) and is painted red. It stands near the Conwy Castle walls. The ground floor is devoted to the living area with room for coal and an open fire, and a water tap tucked behind the stairs. Carlos O'Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan, Grian Chatten, and Tom Coll met in Dublin while attending music college at British and Irish Modern Music Institute in Liberties, Dublin. They bonded over a common love of poetry and collectively released two collections of poetry, one called Vroom, inspired by the Beat poets (Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg) and another called Winding, inspired by Irish poets (Patrick Kavanagh, James Joyce, W. B. Yeats). None of the published poems were translated into songs, but the track Television Screens off their debut Dogrel started out as a poem and was turned into a song.
Lead singer Grian Chatten is half-British (his mother is English and his father is Irish) and was born in Barrow-in-Furness, England but grew up in the County Dublin town of Skerries, Dublin.[10] Coll, Curley, and Deegan are from Ireland “ Mayo, County Mayo, Emyvale in County Monaghan, and Mayo, County Mayo, respectively, and O'Connell grew up in Madrid, Spain.
The band got their name from a character in the movie The Godfather called Johnny Fontane, a singer and movie star portrayed by Al Martino. Fontane was godson of Vito Corleone. They added the initials D.C. when a band in Los Angeles had the same name. The initials D.C. stand for Dublin City.
Fontaines started out self-releasing singles. In May 2017, Fontaines released the single Liberty Belle followed by the split Hurricane Laughter / Winter In the Sun. Liberty Belle is in homage to the Liberties, a neighborhood in Dublin where many band members lived.

Toin Adams, born in Kitwe, Zambia, is a sculptor working in steel, acrylic, fibreglass and other media. She spent her early childhood in eastern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), and late teen years, in South Africa, where she attended the National School of the Arts, Johannesburg. In the late 80's she moved to England, where she began her career in sculpting.
Her two most well known works to date are Birmingham's largest sculpture: the 12 m high, The Green Man 2002 and the 10m high hanging sculpture The Deluge 2010 at Zellig, a 10 metres (33 ft) high hanging sculpture of falling bodies, both commissioned by the Custard Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham. History
The church is Norman in origin, built probably in the earlier part of the 12th century and completed about 1120. This was a small and simple church, consisting of a nave, chancel and, possibly, an apse. The foundations of this church were discovered during the 1873“74 restoration.
A chantry chapel was added by the Boydell family in 1334 in a position where the south aisle now stands. From 1529 the church was largely rebuilt in local sandstone. The old church was demolished and a new nave, chancel, north aisle and a west tower were built. In 1539 the south aisle was added, which incorporated the Boydell chapel. The south porch was added in 1641 and at this time the west wall was strengthened. In 1833 the roof of the nave was raised to form a clerestory and in the 1850s the south aisle was further extended, and a vestry was built. There was a more substantial restoration in 1873“74 by the Lancaster architects Paley and Austin, which included the provision of new floors and roofs, at a cost of about £4,000
The church is built in red sandstone with a slate roof. Its plan consists of a west tower, a continuous nave and chancel of seven bays with a clerestory, north and south aisles, a chapel at the east end of the south aisle, a vestry and a south porch. The tower is in three stages, with a Tudor west door, and a four-light west window. It has diagonal west buttresses and square east buttresses. In the middle stage are small windows, above which are clock faces and bell openings. On the summit is a crenellated parapet. The tower is about 76 feet (23 m) high

It lies on the West Coast Main Line (WCML), and is served also by Argyle Line trains of the Glasgow suburban railway network. It is the penultimate stop on the northbound WCML before Glasgow. There are four platforms of various length in use at Motherwell. The station is located next to the town's main shopping arcade, Motherwell Shopping Centre.
The current Motherwell station was built to replace an earlier station which was opened by the Caledonian Railway at nearby Orbiston. As Orbiston station was quite some distance from the rapidly expanding Motherwell town centre, the decision was taken to build a station at 'Lesmahagow Junction', the point where the Motherwell Deviation branch of the Caledonian Railway Main Line met the lines to Mossend, Hamilton and Lesmahagow. This new site was conveniently in the heart of the town.
The current station was built by British Rail during the 1970s on the site of the original to coincide with the electrification of the West Coast Main Line. It has four through platforms, crossed by two overbridges with the main buildings being above the level of the line between Platforms 2 and 3. At platform level between Platforms 2 and 3 there is also a Abellio ScotRail traincrew depot, staff car park and an office of the British Transport Police. These are accessible via a gated rampway leading to street level.
Beyond Platform 4 are some electrified sidings used for the stabling of trains overnight. Diagrams are nominally worked so that these units will only stay at Motherwell for one night before returning to their allocated depot.

local government administration is centred at the nearby Municipal Buildings. The town hall was built between 1749 and 1754 to a design by John Wood the Elder replacing an earlier town hall nearby. An extension to the north designed by James Wyatt was added in 1785. Following a fire in 1795 the hall was largely rebuilt and a dome designed by Wyatt was built. Minor alterations have subsequently been made. The streets surrounding its site have altered since its initiation, notably when viewed from Castle Street, the south-side, it appears as off-centre. This is because Water Street which ran to the junction with Dale Street, the west-east axis, was continuous and built up across the junction so that the Town Hall was not visible originally from that aspect. The structures were removed 150 years after this to expose the building from this position.

I've seen Mark E Smith at a range of venues, from sweaty club gigs to confusing 100,000 Gorillaz fans at Glastonbury's main stage, but to see Manchester's most dissident music icon at the city's cathedral felt like it would be a surreal experience.
When the man himself strode past paying customers into the main nave of the grand old building, with the assurance of a man who very much owned the place, it was a double-take moment which seemed fitting of the whole event.
The Fall have been an unusually settled outfit in recent years, now on their fourth consecutive studio album with the same line-up.
For a band which has clocked up almost 70 members “ one of whom was reportedly fired by its iconic frontman and dictator-in-chief for ordering a salad “ it's been a period of relative calm which could have brought accusations of sterility.
The rousing opener ˜Your Future, Our Clutter' quickly dispels any fears of the serene venue taking away any of The Fall's traditional sting, if anything the acoustics of the cathedral add another layer to Smith's barking, hectoring vocals.
The follow-up number ˜I'm not from Bury' seems appropriate as the Prestwich rock deity holds his hometown crowd in the palm of his hand, especially the ones craning their necks around the cathedral's dramatic pillars as he prowls around the stage like an overlord searching for something that needs correcting.
In nearing 40 years as The Fall's supreme leader Smith has exhibited a fondness for ˜live-mixing' during sets “ a tweak of an amp here etc

Johnny Marr (born John Martin Maher, 31 October 1963) is an English musician, songwriter and singer. He first achieved fame as the guitarist and co-songwriter of the Smiths, who were active from 1982 to 1987. He has since performed with numerous other bands and embarked on a solo career.
Born in Manchester, to Irish parents, Marr formed his first band at the age of 13. He was part of several bands with Andy Rourke before forming the Smiths with Morrissey in 1982. I must say I had pretty much the worst seat in the place and only by blagging an empty seat in the row behind, managed to get a decent view.

Robert Cray (born August 1, 1953, Columbus, Georgia, United States) is an American blues guitarist and singer. A five-time Grammy Award winner, he has led his own band, as well as an acclaimed solo career.
Cray was signed to Mercury Records in 1982. His third album release, Strong Persuader, produced by Dennis Walker, received a Grammy Award, while the crossover single 'Smokin' Gun' gave him wider appeal and name recognition.
By now, Cray was an opening act for such major stars as Eric Clapton (who remains a friend to this day), and sold out larger venues as a solo artist. Cray has generally played Fender guitars (Telecasters and Stratocasters) and there are two signature Robert Cray Stratocasters models available from Fender. The Robert Cray Custom Shop Stratocaster is made in the United States in the Fender custom shop and is identical to the guitars that Cray currently plays, while the Robert Cray Standard Stratocaster is a less-expensive model made in Fender's Ensenada, Mexico plant.
Cray had the opportunity to play alongside John Lee Hooker on his album Boom Boom, playing the guitar solo in the song 'Same Old Blues Again'. He is also featured on the Hooker album, The Healer
he plays a guitar solo on the song 'Baby Lee'. The entire Robert Cray Band backs Hooker on the title track of Hooker's 1992 album 'Mr. Lucky', where Cray plays lead guitar, sings, and banters with Hooker throughout the song.
Cray was invited to play at the 'Guitar Legends' concerts in Seville, Spain at the 1992 Expo, where he played a signature track, 'Phone Booth'. Albert Collins was also on the bill on this blues night of the 'Legends' gigs.
Cray continues to record and tour. He appeared at the Crossroads Guitar Festival, and supported Eric Clapton on his 2006-2007 world tour. In Fargo, North Dakota, he joined Clapton on backup guitar for the Cream song 'Crossroads'. In 2011, Cray was inducted to the Blues Hall of Fame

Johnny Marr should need no introduction being one half the team that founded 'The Smiths' and on break up entered years of legal battles with the rest of the band members.
This track is from Boomslang, the first, and to date only album by Johnny Marr + the Healers. It was released in 2003 through Artistdirect and iMusic. The band consisted of drummer Zak Starkey and former Kula Shaker bassist Alonza Bevan with Marr handling guitars and lead vocals.
Boomslang received a mixed critical reaction. Uncut, Billboard and PopMatters gave the album positive reviews, while Q and Mojo published more lukewarm reactions.
In Rolling Stone, Pat Blashill wrote that the album 'shimmers with elements of T. Rex and traces of the Stone Roses \u2013 it's got all the atmosphere of a great rock record, but not the guts of one'

The restaurant up there is horrendously expensive. There is a story about a man who once a week always took coffee up there. He was asked why with it being so expensive. He replied it was the only place in Paris he was sure he could take his coffee, look out of the window, and NOT see the Eiffel tower!

The clock is a prominent landmark in the city of Chester and is said to be the most photographed clock in England after Big Ben.
The original gate was guarded by a timber tower which was replaced by a stone tower in the 2nd century, and this in turn was replaced probably in the 14th century. The present gateway dates from 1768 and is a three-arched sandstone structure which carries the walkway forming part of Chester city walls. In 1899 a clock was added to the top of the gateway to celebrate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria two years earlier. It is carried on openwork iron pylons, has a clock face on all four sides, and a copper ogee cupola. The clock was designed by the Chester architect John Douglas. The whole structure, gateway and clock, was listed by English Heritage on 28 July 1955 as a Grade I listed building. You know you have been on a visit to Chester when you have an image of this clock in your memory card. To avoid this failure of imagination, this photograph was taken from under the clock mechanism.
Eastgate was originally defended by a timber tower. The road running through the gate led to Manchester, then across the Pennines to York. By the 18th century the city walls were no longer needed for defensive purposes and so, rather than being pulled down, they were converted into walkways. The medieval gateways were obstructing the traffic into the city and were replaced by wider arched gateways with balustraded parapets. The first gateway to be replaced was Eastgate in 1768 which was rebuilt as an elegant arch. It was built at the expense of Richard Grosvenor, 1st Earl Grosvenor, and designed by Mr Hayden (or Heyden), the earl's surveyor of buildings.
Eastgate today is a clutch of upmarket shops, Browns Jewellers, banks and the Chester Grosvenor Five Star Hotel.

SA were on top form tonight at the Wolverhampton Civic. Coincidentally the city xmas lights were switched on this night too, with fireworks.
However the best show was in the Civic with Skin body surfing down to the bottom of the hall &
back, then doing a lap of the circle. A brilliant performance and two new tracks chucked in to boot!

The Datsuns formed in 2000 are a 1970's inspired hard rock band from Cambridge, New Zealand,. In August 2000 they released their first single, 'Super Gyration!,' on 7' vinyl only. In July 2002, after featuring several times on the greap and sadly lost John Peel's programme on the BBC Radio 1 and being hailed as 'the future of rock' by the British music press, the band signed with the V2 record label. Lead singer Grian Chatten is half-British (his mother is English and his father is Irish) and was born in Barrow-in-Furness, England but grew up in the County Dublin town of Skerries, Dublin.[10] Coll, Curley, and Deegan are from Ireland “ Mayo, County Mayo, Emyvale in County Monaghan, and Mayo, County Mayo, respectively, and O'Connell grew up in Madrid, Spain.
The band got their name from a character in the movie The Godfather called Johnny Fontane, a singer and movie star portrayed by Al Martino. Fontane was godson of Vito Corleone. They added the initials D.C. when a band in Los Angeles had the same name. The initials D.C. stand for Dublin City.
Fontaines started out self-releasing singles. In May 2017, Fontaines released the single Liberty Belle followed by the split Hurricane Laughter / Winter In the Sun. Liberty Belle is in homage to the Liberties, a neighborhood in Dublin where many band members lived.

The cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of Liverpool.The Grade II* Metropolitan Cathedral is one of Liverpool's many listed buildings. It is sometimes known locally as Paddy's Wigwam or the Mersey Funnel, especially for tourists, but these are less common terms locally within the City.
The cathedral's architect, Frederick Gibberd, was the winner of a worldwide design competition. Construction began in 1962 and took five years. Earlier designs for a cathedral were proposed in 1853, 1933, and 1953, but none was completed.
During the Great Irish Famine (1845“1852) the Catholic population of Liverpool increased dramatically. About half a million Irish, who were predominantly Catholic, fled to England to escape the famine
many embarked from Liverpool to travel to North America while others remained in city.[5] Because of the increase in the Catholic population, the co-adjutor Bishop of Liverpool, Alexander Goss (1814“1872), saw the need for a cathedral. The location he chose was the grounds of St. Edward's College on St. Domingo Road, Everton.[6]
In 1853 Goss, then bishop, awarded the commission for the building of the new cathedral to Edward Welby Pugin (1833“1875). By 1856 the Lady Chapel of the new cathedral had been completed. Due to financial resources being diverted to the education of Catholic children, work on the building ceased at this point and the Lady Chapel “ now named Our Lady Immaculate “ served as parish church to the local Catholic population until its demolition in the 1980s.
