Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3F51211 - Jesus Saves street preacher or Christian evangelist in Birmingham city centre, West Midlands, England, UK. The photograph records public religious outreach in a busy central urban environment, with a person associated with a prominent Jesus Saves message engaging with or addressing passers-by. Street preaching remains a visible form of Christian evangelism in many British towns and cities, particularly in pedestrianised shopping areas where campaigners, faith groups and individuals can reach a large public audience. Birmingham is one of the UK's largest and most religiously diverse cities, with established Christian, Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Jewish and other communities contributing to its cultural life. This scene illustrates contemporary Christianity, personal expressions of belief, evangelical outreach, public preaching, religious campaigning and the use of city-centre public space for communicating faith-based messages. It can also support editorial coverage of freedom of expression, urban culture, religion in modern Britain, street activity, public engagement and the relationship between organised faith and everyday city life. The summer street setting and visible commercial surroundings place the religious activity firmly within the ordinary daily environment of central Birmingham rather than inside a formal place of worship.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3ENF1NY - Landscape panoramic view of the outdoor terrace at V&A Dundee on Dundee Waterfront, Scotland, showing visitors and tourists relaxing beside the River Tay under dramatic summer cloud and blue sky. The large wall text reads Be open to the joy you deserve , giving the photograph a strong wellbeing, leisure and positive travel message as people sit along the museum's riverside edge. The image combines contemporary architecture, public space, visitor experience and waterside scenery, making it useful for editorial and commercial themes around Scottish tourism, cultural destinations, museum visits, design-led regeneration, waterfront renewal, wellbeing, relaxation, day trips and accessible public realm. V&A Dundee is Scotland's design museum, located at 1 Riverside Esplanade on the city's regenerated waterfront, and was designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. The building has become one of Dundee's most recognisable modern landmarks, close to the River Tay, Dundee railway station, Discovery Point and the central waterfront area. The wide view shows the grey external wall of the museum, sheltered seating area, riverside paving, railings, foreshore, open water, distant Tay Road Bridge and a broad skyscape that adds depth and atmosphere. The scene suggests a calm, mild day, probably in spring or summer, with visitors taking time out to enjoy the view rather than rushing through a formal attraction. It can support stories about museums as civic spaces, the value of free cultural venues, urban design, leisure tourism, Dundee's post-industrial waterfront transformation, Scotland's creative economy and the appeal of open-air spaces attached to major visitor attractions. The inspirational slogan also gives the image potential for features on mental wellbeing, slow travel, personal reflection, inclusive culture, public seating, visitor comfort and the way architecture can frame everyday moments of rest, conversation and looking out across water.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3DM98YA - A lively winter dusk street scene outside the Marks & Spencer department store on Market Street in Manchester city centre. The photograph is taken from a low, slightly angled viewpoint that emphasises the building's sweeping curved glass frontage and the large, readable MARKS & SPENCER signage wrapping around the corner. Warm interior lighting spills onto the pavement while the sky holds a deepening blue, creating a classic blue hour contrast between cool outdoor tones and the bright retail glow inside.
In the foreground, dense crowds of shoppers in winter coats stream past the entrance, queue, pause, and regroup, capturing the real feel of Manchester's busiest shopping street at peak footfall. The mix of faces and movement gives the image strong editorial value for stories about city-centre retail, consumer behaviour, seasonal shopping, and the everyday rhythm of the UK high street. The composition also works as a clear location identifier, balancing the recognisable brand frontage with the wider public realm, street lighting, and the bustle of an urban evening.
The scene suits a wide range of uses, from travel and lifestyle coverage of Manchester as a city-break destination, to business and economic pieces on retail performance, footfall, and the continuing role of large department stores in central shopping districts. The winter timing is communicated through the low light, bundled clothing, and the after-work atmosphere, making it a versatile image for headlines and general illustration.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3F4NRN6 - Panoramic sunset view across the outer edge of Los Cristianos in the municipality of Arona, southern Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. White and terracotta-roofed villas, apartments and newer resort-style development fill the foreground and middle distance, while dry volcanic ground and low hills mark the transition from the built-up tourist area to the island landscape. A small group of tents and makeshift shelters can be seen on the undeveloped hillside beyond the holiday properties, highlighting the close physical contrast between tourism-led residential development and people living in precarious accommodation. Los Cristianos is one of the best-known visitor resorts in the south of Tenerife and forms part of the municipality of Arona, an area strongly shaped by tourism, holiday accommodation and continuing urban growth. Housing affordability and homelessness have become visible social issues in parts of southern Tenerife, where rising rents, limited affordable housing and pressure from the visitor economy have been widely reported. Reports from Tenerife have described people living in tents and improvised shelters around Los Cristianos and nearby Montaña de Guaza, including people unable to secure conventional rented accommodation. The wide panoramic composition looks from elevated holiday housing towards the outskirts of the resort as the sun sets on the horizon. Warm orange light from the setting sun contrasts with a blue and pink evening sky, scattered cloud, pale rendered buildings, red tiled roofs and the dry brown terrain. The image illustrates the juxtaposition of a major Canary Islands holiday destination with contemporary concerns around housing pressure, insecure accommodation, homelessness, inequality, tourism development and the availability of affordable homes for local workers and residents.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3CKYR4E - A late-summer street scene in the Paddington Basin area of West London showing pedestrians walking past a line of bright pink wayfinding signs marked Carnival , directing people towards Notting Hill Carnival. The image was taken in August under strong daylight, clear blue skies and hot, dry weather, conditions typical of a peak UK summer period.
People are dressed in light clothing suitable for warm temperatures, reinforcing the sense of heat and seasonal conditions. The temporary signage highlights how London's public realm and transport-adjacent spaces are adapted each year to manage the movement of large crowds attending one of Europe's largest street festivals.
The photograph illustrates the interaction between urban infrastructure, seasonal weather and major cultural events, and is well suited for editorial use covering topics such as summer festivals, crowd movement, urban planning, transport access, heatwaves, and the logistical impact of large-scale events in London.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2T3EFT8 - This documentary stock image shows Lewis Brothers Ice Cream van, Walton Gardens , Warrington, Cheshire, England, UK, WA4 6SN. The row metadata places the subject at Walton Gardens , Warrington, Cheshire, England, UK, WA4 6SN. The value lies in the combination of place, object, wording and context, giving editors something specific and grounded rather than generic filler imagery. Warrington sits between Liverpool and Manchester and is often used as a practical example of a North West town balancing commuter growth, older industrial roots, retail change, new development, road traffic, local services and community identity. The subject has lifestyle and community value, suitable for family leisure, parks, pets, seasonal trading, public events, local nostalgia and the small details that make everyday street photography commercially useful. It has strong value for publishers needing authentic documentary imagery for news pages, blog articles, council reports, social media graphics, presentations, magazine features and local-history explainers. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2T2843N - Holy Trinity Church lies on Boar Lane in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is a Grade I listed Church of England parish church in the Parish of Leeds St George in the Diocese of Leeds. It was built in 1722“7, though its steeple dates from 1839. Holy Trinity is in the evangelical church tradition of the Church of England.
History and architecture
A 1714 proposal that a new church should be erected in central Leeds foundered for lack of subscribers, but, in 1722, Lady Elizabeth Hastings of Ledston, backed by leading merchants, revived the project, and the foundation stone of Holy Trinity was laid on 27 August 1722.
The architect of the church was for some time believed to be William Halfpenny. However, it has subsequently been discovered that his designs for the church, for which he was paid £1 11s 6d on 8 May 1723, were never executed, and that the architect was William Etty of York. A letter from William Cookson to Ralph Thoresby dated 15 May 1723, enclosed a draught, the south front of our new church
it was drawn by Mr. Etty of York, who has also made us a wooden modell for our workmen to go by. Etty had been paid nineteen guineas in April of the same year for the model, which survived into the nineteenth century.
The west tower in Halfpenny's design was topped by a square, open colonnade with an obelisk-shaped spire. Etty did not envisage a spire, but a wooden one was later added by an unknown hand. Thomas Dunham Whitaker, Vicar of Whalley, Lancashire, in his Loidis and Elmete (1816), remarked of this spire: unquestionably one instance among many of private interference, by which the better judgment of real architects is often overruled, and for which they are unjustly considered as responsible. When the spire blew down in 1839, it was replaced by a taller stone steeple of three diminishing stages (architect: Robert Dennis Chantrell).
In 2020 a major refurbishment of the building was completed and will soon be home to a midweek ministry for city centre

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RJAFFX - Liverpool Central railway station in Liverpool, England, forms a central hub of the Merseyrail network, being on both the Northern Line and the Wirral Line. The station is located underground on two levels, below the site of a former mainline terminus. It is the busiest station in Liverpool, though considerably smaller than Lime Street station, the mainline terminus, and the busiest station to operate solely on the Merseyrail network. The station is the busiest underground station outside London serving 40,000 people daily. The station in passengers per platform is the busiest underground railway station in the United Kingdom at 5,217,547 per platform per annum and laying third in all stations, underground or overground.
Liverpool Central is one of nine stations on the Merseyrail network to incorporate automatic ticket gates. The main concourse is part of a shopping centre, and includes a closed subway link to the former Lewis's department store
Liverpool Central Low Level underground terminal station opened on 11 January 1892, at the end of the Mersey Railway's route, via the Mersey Railway Tunnel from Birkenhead, when the route was extended from James Street station. The Mersey Railway platforms were underground, accessed from stairs within the High Level station and situated in roughly the same position as the escalators accessing the Northern Line today.
The Mersey Railway tunnel entering Central Low Level from the north of the station was aligned with the High Level station's approach tunnel from the south. This was to ensure minimum engineering work if ever the two tunnels were to be linked up”as did occur in the 1970s.
The Merseyrail network was created in the 1970s by merging separate railways into one integrated network. Central underground station would service the Northern and Wirral Lines.
A new loop tunnel was built in Liverpool city centre for Wirral Line trains, linking James Street station with Moorfields, Lime Street and Liverpool Central

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RFJ3CM - This photograph shows the BBC Cymru Wales headquarters building at Central Square in Cardiff city centre, home to the national broadcaster for Wales. The modern structure features a combination of pale stone cladding and large vertical glass panels, with prominent BBC Cymru Wales signage clearly visible on the upper facade. The building forms a key part of Cardiff's Central Square regeneration area, adjacent to Cardiff Central railway station.
The image was taken after rainfall, with wet road surfaces and pavements creating reflective textures across the foreground. Traffic lights glow against the damp streets, while a small number of pedestrians move through the scene, dressed for cool, unsettled weather. The sky is overcast with patches of lighter cloud, suggesting changeable conditions typical of the Welsh climate.
BBC Cymru Wales operates television, radio, and digital services in both Welsh and English, and the Central Square development represents a significant investment in modern broadcasting infrastructure and urban renewal. The surrounding streetscape, street furniture, and planting reinforce the contemporary civic character of the area.
The photograph captures both the architectural presence of a major public service broadcaster and the everyday atmosphere of a working city following rain, blending modern media infrastructure with the rhythms of urban life in Cardiff.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RCC5RC - This photograph shows spectators queuing at an entrance to Silverstone Circuit during the Formula One British Grand Prix, waiting to pass through security screening on a clear and sunny morning. Long lines of fans are guided by temporary metal barriers towards controlled access points, reflecting the scale and organisation required to manage one of the UK's largest annual sporting events.
Security checks at major Formula One events typically include bag inspections and restrictions on items such as alcohol containers and prohibited objects, forming part of wider crowd safety and risk management arrangements. The visible queuing system and open terrain underline the logistical challenges of processing large volumes of people efficiently while maintaining public safety and a positive visitor experience.
The image captures the anticipation and atmosphere of race day, with spectators dressed for warm weather and moving steadily towards the circuit interior. Parked vehicles, fencing, and temporary infrastructure in the background illustrate the extensive operational footprint that surrounds a modern international motorsport event.
Well suited for editorial use, this photograph documents crowd behaviour, event security, and spectator management at a major UK sporting venue, highlighting the behind-the-scenes realities that support safe access to large-scale Formula One events.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R3YB6C - Liverpool Street station, also known as London Liverpool Street, is a central London railway terminus and connected London Underground station in the north-eastern corner of the City of London, in the ward of Bishopsgate Without. It is the terminus of the West Anglia Main Line to Cambridge, the Great Eastern Main Line to Norwich, commuter trains serving east London and destinations in the East of England, and the Stansted Express service to Stansted Airport.
The station opened in 1874, as a replacement for Bishopsgate station as the Great Eastern Railway's main London terminus. By 1895, it had the most platforms of any London terminal station. During the First World War, an air raid on the station killed 16 on site, and 146 others in nearby areas. In the build-up to the Second World War, the station served as the entry point for thousands of child refugees arriving in London as part of the Kindertransport rescue mission. The station was damaged by the 1993 Bishopsgate bombing and, during the 7 July 2005 bombing, seven passengers were killed when a bomb exploded aboard an Underground train, just after it had departed from Liverpool Street. New platforms for the Elizabeth line opened in 2022 as part of the Crossrail project.
Liverpool Street was built as a dual-level station, with provision for the Underground. A tube station opened in 1875 for the Metropolitan Railway
the tube station is now served by the Central, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines. It is in fare zone 1 and is managed directly by Network Rail.

These cast-iron Police Call Posts were manufactured in the early 1930's by British Ericsson and sited throughout the City of London. The posts enabled the public to call the Police station and were also used for the station to contact the Policeman on the beat in that area. The red signal light would flash if the Constable were required to contact the station. The upper hatch opened to give access to the telephone
the middle door opened horizontally to provide a writing surface and lower door opened to a storage cupboard containing first aid kit and other useful items.
All the posts were decommissioned in the 1960's, when radio communication took over, and the majority of their contents were removed at that time.
A number of these posts were sold in the 1980's
The Liverpool Street Call Post had been particularly severely damaged by a vehicle collision. The fragments were painstakingly welded together and replacement cast-iron parts made only where absolutely necessary. All the posts were cleaned and repaired and their surfaces primed and filled where required to improve their surface quality.
Prior to restoration, the condition of the City's collection was in varying condition. Three of the posts, Aldgate, St Martin's le Grand and Walbrook, were in fairly good condition, however the remainder required full repair and replacement of missing parts.
The decision to remove cast-iron objects to the workshop for repair is one that requires careful judgement: as cast-iron is fragile, such objects should always be repaired in situ when possible to limit the risk of damage in transit. However, five of these posts could only be repaired off site, so having acquired consent, their temporary removal was carried out with great care.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R27BYY - YOUNG people have joined forces with a local artist to transform an underpass in the centre of town.
An underpass between Warrington's bus interchange and the Youth Zone, has had a much-needed makeover thanks to the artist Tim Twist and the youngsters.
Tim helped mastermind the art project, alongside contributions from Warrington Youth Zone, and the youngsters who use the services there.
The mural is designed to reflect key aspects of the town
The mural includes a tribute to Viola Beach, with references to their single 'Swings and Waterslides.'
The artwork shows off the skyline of Warrington, with buildings and sites such as Warrington Wireworks, the Transporter Bridge and the Halliwell Jones Stadium, with a Wolf rising from the ground.
Central supporting columns of the underpass now reflect the cooling towers at Fiddlers Ferry, as well as the Neighbourhood Weekender festival, the Golden Gates and the iconic ˜Pink Eye' building, which will be signed by Anthony Turk who created the original artwork on the building over 20 years ago.
Cllr Tom Jennings, cabinet member for economic development and innovation, said: The artwork has brought about a remarkable improvement to a well-used underpass. I thank Tim Twist and our young people for their talent and efforts over the past few weeks.
This project serves as a testament to the transformative power of art in enhancing our town centre and I'm sure it will instil a further sense of pride in our town's heritage and ownership of our continuing story to all that view it.
Tom Jowett, head of youth work at Warrington Youth Zone, said: Since identifying the site for the youth zone on Dallam Lane our young people identified, they would like to create some artwork on the underpass to make a more warm and welcoming approach to the youth zone and the town centre.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PYKTAA - In the UK, street parties are mainly known as private residents' events without wider neighbourhood publicity and have a festive cultural meaning, especially in England and southern Wales. They have historically been held to commemorate major national events, such as VE Day or for royal events such as jubilees, with bunting dressing the street, and children having fun in the street. An estimated 10 million people took part in street parties in 1977 for the Queen's Silver Jubilee.
The tradition seems to have begun in the United Kingdom after World War I as residents' organized peace teas to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919.
The tradition was boosted for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in April 2011 with about 1 million people joining in street parties. For the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June 2012 about 2 million took part.
Some street parties are held annually or at any time for residents to meet their neighbours in a traffic-free street in a private street party. Some street parties are public events taking many forms.
An application may need to be made to the local authority to close a road for a street party, who will arrange a temporary traffic regulation order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The council may charge a fee if traffic needs to be diverted

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PMNDN8 - Main concourse inside Sheffield railway station on Sheaf Street, Sheffield City Centre, South Yorkshire, England. Passengers wait, walk and check departure information beneath the station's broad glazed roof and decorative railway architecture, making the image useful for editorial stories about rail travel, public transport, commuting, city centre access, railway investment and northern transport policy. Sheffield station is a major gateway for South Yorkshire, serving local, regional and intercity journeys and connecting the city with Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, London, Liverpool and the wider rail network. The visible concourse, passenger information screens, ticket barrier area, seating and waiting travellers give the picture strong relevance for news, magazine, web, public sector, transport and infrastructure use.
The image also has wider context around the long-running debate over rail capacity, reliability and electrification across the North of England. The Sheffield to Manchester route via the Hope Valley line crosses the Peak District and has historically suffered from capacity constraints, with passenger trains sharing the corridor with freight. Network Rail announced completion of the £150 million Hope Valley Railway Upgrade in April 2024, describing work intended to improve reliability and journey performance between Manchester and Sheffield by removing bottlenecks and allowing passenger trains to overtake slower freight services. However, the route is still not a fully electrified modern main line in the way many northern transport campaigners have argued is needed for cleaner, faster and more resilient services.
For image buyers, the value is both local and national: a clear, recognisable Sheffield station interior, active passengers, readable railway information screens, transport architecture and a live public realm scene. The side streets to the north of Church Street lead to Williamson Square, while the Grade I listed Bluecoat Chambers”the oldest surviving building in Liverpool”is to the south along Church Alley. The Liverpool Athenaeum, an institution founded in the 18th century, is also on Church Alley. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R59X2D - This image shows the York waterfront along the River Ouse on a warm summer day, with people seated at riverside tables and benches enjoying food, drink, and sunshine. The river forms a central feature of York's historic landscape and has shaped the city's development for centuries.
The riverside buildings visible along the bank reflect York's long architectural history, with a mix of historic inns, houses, and commercial premises now serving as cafes, pubs, and restaurants. During the summer months, this stretch of the river becomes a focal point for social activity, tourism, and leisure.
The River Ouse flows through the heart of York and remains both an asset and a challenge for the city, celebrated for its scenic value while also associated with seasonal flooding. Images such as this capture the positive, everyday relationship between the city and its river during periods of good weather.
Photographed in bright daylight with clear skies, the image is well suited for editorial use illustrating UK tourism, historic cities, riverside leisure, British summer lifestyle, and urban waterfront regeneration.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JTJYM1 - Everyday heroes honoured in Warrington bus station art
A visionary young artist has created a buzz around Warrington with a jaw-dropping display created to celebrate the relationship between the town and its people.
Warrington artist Cameron Brown has transformed Warrington Bus Interchange with a powerfully poignant collection of portraits.
As you are now so once were we is a thought-provoking display of 48 portraits painted onto the glass of the bus station as a touching tribute to the people of Warrington, the impact they have had on their town, and the role our town played in their lives.
Cameron explained: The aim behind the piece was to celebrate the impact that the people of Warrington can have on the town, often without realising, and to recognise the impact that the town can have on us as a collective.
It was an attempt to try and remember the people that came before, appreciate the people that are presently having an effect on the town, and to be aware of the impact we can have on what is still to come.
Taking its name from James Joyce's novel Ullyses, Cameron's work attempts to add a sense of context and belonging to our own individual lives, to encourage people to look back at what has gone before and how they have arrived in the position they find themselves in today.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JTD2N0 - Serenity is a large mural by street art duo SNIK at the back of the Greater Manchester Police Museum & Archives. It is a tribute to all women that stand against injustice. Over 100 years ago the Suffragettes gathered around the corner in Stevenson Square in a stance for equality so it is fitting that this mural is located just off the square on Little Lever Street.
This piece was organised by the Cities of Hope project.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M07AAB - The Chinatown Gate is a grand entryway into London's lively Chinatown district and a cultural landmark. Boasting a tile roof and red pillars that lead into a vibrant area of red lanterns, noodle shops and street signs with Chinese script, the Chinatown Gate is a must-visit landmark on your way to explore the cultural area.
Each year, roughly 17 million people pass through the Chinatown Gate to visit the cultural enclave and sample delicious Chinese foods. With attractions and dining for families and solo travellers alike, Chinatown is a popular destination for sightseeing and shopping.
London's original Chinatown dates back to the start of the 20th century, but after the Blitz of World War II, many of the shops and restaurants moved to other locations. The current Chinatown, located off Shaftesbury Avenue, was established in the 1970s. The Chinatown Gate was completed in 2016 and stands as one of the largest Chinese gates in the country.
The Chinatown Gate marks the entry into Chinatown and its bustling restaurants and shops. The gate is designed with ornate features done in a traditional Qing Dynasty style that complements the stone lions, contemporary Chinese artwork and other traditional Chinese entrance points to the enclave
Along with seeing the gate itself, you can explore the wonders of Chinatown after stopping at the landmark. Chinatown features many buildings and streets with traditional dragons and lanterns, as well as street signs with English and Chinese writing.
Chinatown is also a haven for art lovers. You'll find contemporary art sculptures, impressive religious sculptures and the iconic stone lions. Chinatown is especially interesting during events, such as Chinese New Year, which features parades with floats, lion dances and live performances. You'll also see hundreds of red lanterns during the New Year celebrations that make for a spectacular sight

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M108BJ - Erected to commemorate Christ's Hospital School's 350 year presence in the City of London, from 1552 to 1902. The sculpture is designed to curve gently, reflecting the care and support provided to children, who flow from the youngest entering the school to confident adolescents marching boldly into their futures. The back of the sculpture features a verse written about Christ's Hospital by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, who was a pupil from 1781 to 1791, along with a copper plate drawing of the Priory buildings at the time the school first occupied the site in 1552. The sculpture gives life to the essence of the school and its charitable mission to educate children in particular need, regardless of means. The famous Tudor uniform and marching depicted in the piece are synonymous with Christ's Hospital today.

A council has approved a £5.25m scheme to provide solar panels on 1,500 homes and three sheltered housing schemes.
Council approves £5.25m solar panel scheme
Warrington Borough Council has partnered with Golden Gates Housing Trust to install the panels, which it hopes will save tenants £233 annually on energy bills.
The scheme follows the installation of 623 panels in July 2011, with the funding coming from the council's capital programme.
Russ Bowden, executive board member for corporate resources and assignments at Warrington council said: ˜There is a cost of living crisis across the country and this scheme is one of those win win opportunities.
˜People have been facing substantial increases in energy bills over the last few years and this project will help to reduce the cost of these energy bills.'

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JB87CN - Rows of red-brick Torus Group social housing in Warrington are fitted with extensive rooftop solar photovoltaic panels. The panels occupy much of the sun-facing roof space above the flats and maisonettes, turning an established housing estate into a visible example of renewable-stock-photo/gotonysmith-Energy.html?sortBy=relevant&pseudoid=237DAF28-A4ED-4448-8173-C0E81ABEEC6F Target=_Blank>energy investment in existing rented homes. Neatly maintained lawns, front gardens, mature trees and a modern street light appear beneath a bright blue summer sky.
Solar PV systems generate electricity during daylight, allowing residents to use locally produced power while the panels are operating. For social housing tenants facing high electricity prices and wider cost-of-living pressures, this can reduce reliance on electricity bought from the grid and help lower household energy bills. The installation therefore illustrates the role that housing associations can play in tackling fuel poverty, improving affordability and supporting tenants whose budgets are particularly exposed to rising domestic costs.
Torus is a major registered provider of social housing across Warrington, St Helens and Liverpool. Its retrofit programmes have included measures such as solar PV panels, insulation, improved windows and doors, ventilation, roof works and low-carbon technologies. These improvements are intended to increase the energy efficiency and thermal comfort of homes while supporting wider decarbonisation and net-zero objectives.
The photograph also shows how renewable technology can be incorporated into traditional post-war residential buildings without demolishing or replacing the existing homes. Retrofitting established estates can extend the useful life of housing stock, reduce carbon emissions associated with domestic energy use and make clean electricity generation a normal part of the urban streetscape. The image represents social landlord investment, affordable warmth, household resilience and the continuing modernisation of rented housing in North West England.

Inside Central Library
The main entrance hall gets its name from the huge stained glass window above the front door. The window was designed by the Arts & Crafts artist, Robert Anning Bell RA (1863-1933) and includes a portrait of William Shakespeare and scenes from many of his plays. It was given to the library by Mrs Rosa Grindon, in memory of her husband, the famous Manchester botanist, Leo Grindon.
The two other stained glass windows and the magnificent heraldic decorations were all designed by George Kruger Gray (1880-1943). On the ceiling are the arms and crests of the Duchy of Lancaster, Lancashire County Council and the Sees of York, Manchester and the City of Manchester . Around the walls are those of Manchester Grammar School, Manchester University, the Manchester Regiment, Humphrey Chetham, the Overseers of the Township, England, St George and St Mary (the patron saint of Manchester).

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2DFF0PE - Southern Cemetery is a large municipal cemetery in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, England, 3 miles (4.8 km) south of the city centre. It opened in 1879 and is owned and administered by Manchester City Council. It is the largest municipal cemetery in the United Kingdom and the second largest in Europe.
Manchester Southern Cemetery originally occupied a 100-acre (40 ha) plot of land, in what was then Withington, that cost Manchester Corporation £38,340 in 1872. Its cemetery buildings were designed by architect H. J. Paull and its layout attributed to the city surveyor, James Gascoigne Lynde.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RGGE73 - The Mainz Carnival (Mainzer Fastnacht) is a months-long citywide carnival celebration in Mainz, Germany that traditionally begins on 11 November but culminates in the days before Ash Wednesday in the spring.
It is one of the largest carnival events in Germany and, along with the Cologne and Düsseldorfer carnivals, Mainz is one of the three cities prominent in the rhenish carnival tradition. Aside from the celebrations, parades, and jollity which are typical of carnival traditions in many countries, the Mainz carnival has an unusual emphasis on political and literary humor and commentary.
The fountain is vitally important to all real Meenzer (people from Mainz): Every year on 11/11, all people celebrating Carnival in Mainz (fools) gather here when the clock on the balcony of the facing Osteiner Hof (Court of Ostein) strikes 11:11 p.m., which marks the fifth season of Carnival. The carnival is traditionally opened with the announcement of the 11 carnival laws.
The 8.50 metre-high carnival fountain, unveiled in 1967, designed by Blasius Spreng, is a comparatively young monument in Mainz. Nevertheless, you can't imagine it not being in the cityscape. With over 200 figures from carnival and mythology, it is a symbol of typical Mainz joie de vivre

Look a little closer - which figures do you recognise? Father Rhine, the monk and the man with the blockhead, the cat, Till Eulenspiegel and the city goddess, Mogontia, the purse scrubber and the paragraph rider. They are all examples of the variety of fantasy motifs that populate the Carnival fountain.
During the 19th century celebrants began using the carnival as an opportunity to mock the military forces occupying the city's fortress. The uniforms of the carnival guards are still reminders of the uniforms of the Austrian, Prussian, and French troops which were present in the town between 1792 and 1866.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AFK6XT - Trump Tower is a 58-floor, 664-foot-tall (202 m) mixed-use skyscraper at 721“725 Fifth Avenue in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City,USA,between East 56th and 57th Streets. It serves as the headquarters for the Trump Organization. Additionally, it houses the penthouse condominium residence of businessman, real estate developer, and former U.S. president Donald Trump, who developed the building and named it after himself. Several members of the Trump family also live, or have resided, in the building. The tower stands on a plot where the flagship store of department-store chain Bonwit Teller was formerly located.
Der Scutt of Poor, Swanke, Hayden & Connell designed Trump Tower, and Trump and the Equitable Life Assurance Company (now the AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company) developed it. Although it is in one of Midtown Manhattan's special zoning districts, the tower was approved because it was to be built as a mixed-use development. Trump was permitted to add more stories to the tower in return for additional retail space and for providing privately owned public space on the ground floor, the lower level, and two outdoor terraces. There were controversies during construction, including the destruction of historically important sculptures from the Bonwit Teller store
Trump's alleged underpaying of contractors
and a lawsuit that Trump filed because the tower was not tax-exempt.
Construction on the building began in 1979. The atrium, apartments, offices, and stores opened on a staggered schedule from February to November 1983. At first, there were few tenants willing to move into the commercial and retail spaces
the residential units were sold out within months of opening. After Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and subsequent election, the tower saw large increases in visitation, though security concerns required the area around the tower to be patrolled for several years.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JHB6XP - Charing Cross railway station (also known as London Charing Cross)[4] is a central London railway terminus between the Strand and Hungerford Bridge in the City of Westminster. It is the terminus of the South Eastern Main Line to Dover via Ashford. All trains are operated by Southeastern, which provides the majority of commuter and regional services to south-east London and Kent. It is connected to Charing Cross Underground station and is near to Embankment Underground station and Embankment Pier.
The station was originally opened by the South Eastern Railway in 1864. It takes its name from its proximity to the road junction Charing Cross, the notional centre of London from which distances from the city are measured. During the 19th century the station became the main London terminus for continental traffic via boat trains, and served several prestigious international services. It was badly damaged by a roof collapse in 1905 and extensively rebuilt, subsequently becoming an important meeting point for military and government traffic during World War I. By this time, Charing Cross station was seen as out of date by some politicians and proposals were made to replace Hungerford Bridge with a road bridge or road/rail combination, with the station moving to the south bank of the River Thames in the case of a road-only replacement. The station was bombed several times during World War II, and was rebuilt afterwards, re-opening in 1951. In the late 1980s, the station complex was redesigned by Terry Farrell and rebuilt to accommodate a modern office block, now known as Embankment Place.

Leeds was a small manorial borough in the 13th century, and in the 17th and 18th centuries it became a major centre for the production and trading of wool, and in the Industrial Revolution a major mill town
wool was still the dominant industry, but flax, engineering, iron foundries, printing, and other industries were also important. From being a market town in the valley of the River Aire in the 16th century, Leeds expanded and absorbed the surrounding villages to become a populous urban centre by the mid-20th century.
Leeds has one of the most diverse economies of the all the UK's main employment centres and has seen the fastest rate of private-sector jobs growth of any UK city. It also has the highest ratio of private to public sector jobs of all the UK's Core Cities, with 77% of its workforce working in the private sector. Leeds has the third-largest jobs total by local authority area, with 480,000 in employment and self-employment at the beginning of 2015. Leeds is ranked as a gamma world city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. Leeds is the cultural, financial and commercial heart of the West Yorkshire Urban Area. Leeds is served by four universities, and has the fourth largest student population in the country and the country's fourth largest urban economy.
Today, Leeds has become the largest legal and financial centre, outside London with the financial and insurance services industry worth £13 billion to the city's economy. The Finance and business service sector account for 38% of total output with more than 30 national and international banks located in the city, including an office of the Bank of England. Leeds is also the UK's third-largest manufacturing centre with around 1,800 firms and 39,000 employees.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy FDNJR0 - Metrolink (also known as Manchester Metrolink) is a light rail tram system in Greater Manchester, England. The system is owned by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and operated and maintained under contract by RATP Group. In 2015/16, 34.3 million passenger journeys were made on the system.
The network consists of seven lines which radiate from Manchester city centre to termini at Altrincham, Ashton-under-Lyne, Bury, East Didsbury, Eccles, Manchester Airport and Rochdale. Metrolink has 93 stops along 57 miles (92 km) of standard-gauge track making it the largest light rail system in the United Kingdom. It consists of a mixture of on-street track shared with other traffic
reserved track, segregated from other traffic, often running alongside the roadway or in the central reservation, and converted former railway lines. It is operated by a fleet of Bombardier Flexity Swift M5000s.
A light rail system for Greater Manchester emerged from the failure of the 1970s Picc-Vic tunnel scheme to obtain central government funding. A light-rail scheme was proposed in 1982 as the least expensive rail-based transport solution for Manchester city centre and the surrounding Greater Manchester metropolitan area. Government approval was granted in 1988 and the network began operating services between Bury Interchange and Victoria on 6 April 1992, becoming the United Kingdom's first modern street-running rail system
the 1885-built Blackpool tramway being the only heritage tram system in the UK that had survived up to Metrolink's creation.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy ECW4H5 - Holy Trinity Church, Wood Green, is a Grade II listed Victorian church in Witney, Oxfordshire.htm Target=_Blank>Oxfordshire.
The Church was built in 1848“9, on land given by the bishop of Winchester and the duke of Marlborough
the cost was met largely from subscriptions, and a gift from the rector Charles Jerram. The architect was Benjamin Ferrey.
The church of squared and coursed limestone with ashlar quoins and dressings and a gabled stone slate roof. There is a two-bay chancel with pointed moulded doorway and Caernarvon-arched window. The five-bay nave has offset buttresses, lancets and two-light windows in each east bay.
An organ was installed in 1860, and new choir stalls and altar rails were fitted in 1869. In 1887 the vestry was enlarged to designs by Clapton Crabb Rolfe, and in 1895 an organ by Charles Martin of Oxford replaced the earlier one.
A new pulpit was fitted in 1909 in memory of Samuel and Mary Shuffrey. It was created in the Wood Green workshop of their son Leonard Shuffrey, the leading architect and architectural designer, who is buried in the Churchyard. James Allen Shuffrey, the notable watercolour artist, and brother of Leonard Shuffrey, sang in Wood Green Church Choir as a boy.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DDXKPM - LGBT Warrington is organised by LGBT members who are all volunteers. The group has built great relationships with partners, which include the Council, police, health and local businesses.
They are here to help and welcome anyone who would like to join us to stamp out the stigma people may have on the LGBT community.
The group offers support to those who need it on a 1-2-1 basis and is treated with great confidentiality, and point people in the right direction of the services they require.
They meet throughout the year mainly to have a brew and chat about life in general, to meet and make new friends, and for those who require extra support, to help by signposting to relevant services in Warrington. We also at times hold activities such as bowling, theatre trips, quizzes and games.
They also have nights out in the town centre at Cotton Mill or Show Bar and take part with events they are holding, or even have the odd night out to Manchester to Canal Street or to the theatre.
During the year they are also visited by guest speakers.
They welcome visitors and potential new members whatever their sexuality, though is open to 18+ only.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DDXM8X - LGBT Warrington is organised by LGBT members who are all volunteers.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy H2MCTW - This documentary stock photograph shows St Paul's Cathedral entrance in wide angle, City of London, England, UK. The image is centred on St Paul's Cathedral, giving it strong editorial value for stories about London, architecture, tourism, heritage, public realm, night photography and the way the capital presents itself beside the River Thames. The caption and visible treatment indicate wide composition, so the photograph can be used as a real city scene rather than a generic skyline. The wider context includes Sir Christopher Wren's cathedral, City of London identity, baroque architecture, wartime memory and the ceremonial heart of the capital. These are subjects with broad stock-photo demand because they connect recognisable landmarks with themes of history, culture, faith, finance, theatre, regeneration, transport, walking routes and visitor spending. The image can support articles about City of London working life, South Bank tourism, Bankside leisure, London at dusk, cathedral heritage, riverside views, public spaces, cultural venues, urban planning, commercial property and the continuing pull of landmark architecture in news and travel publishing. For SEO and Alamy search, useful composite phrases include London dusk skyline, St Pauls Cathedral evening view, River Thames panorama, Bankside cultural quarter, Shakespeare Globe Theatre exterior, Millennium Bridge London, City of London landmark and Southwark riverside tourism. If the image is black and white, the monochrome style adds a more timeless, architectural feel
if it is in colour, the low-light sky and urban illumination add atmosphere and practical editorial appeal. Its value lies in combining a recognisable subject with a specific viewpoint and mood, suitable for guidebooks, blogs, newspapers, magazines, education, heritage, planning, religion, theatre, travel and city-break content.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy H2MB14 - This documentary stock photograph shows Bank Tube Station and passengers, City Of London, at Dusk. The image records Bank Underground station and passengers in the City of London, making it useful for editorial features on commuting, public transport, the Tube, City workers, finance district footfall and the pressure on central London interchanges. The City of London and Liverpool Street area is a dense mix of railway infrastructure, Underground stations, offices, historic streets, pubs, retail units and constant pedestrian movement, so even a modest street or station view carries strong relevance for stories about commuting, working life, commercial property, transport investment and the post-pandemic future of the office. The caption and visible detail suggest low light, dusk or evening atmosphere, readable signage, giving the photograph a practical, real-world quality that works for news, business and travel use. It can support articles about the Square Mile, banking, insurance, office rents, rail usage, Tube crowding, cycling, public art, tourism, station redevelopment, after-work hospitality and London as both a workplace and visitor destination. Search-friendly composite terms include City of London commuters, Liverpool Street railway station, Bank Underground station, Cornhill financial district, London office economy, Square Mile public realm, London 2012 Olympic legacy and central London transport hub. The photograph can also illustrate wider themes of regeneration, heritage, carbon-conscious travel, pedestrian movement, evening economy, retail footfall and how transport nodes shape urban property values. Its editorial strength lies in being specific enough for captions and broad enough for business, transport, finance, urban planning, tourism and local history stories. The image is also useful where editors need a recognisable London environment without relying on the most overused postcard views.

New York based DJ Andy Butler (assisted by Kim Ann Foxman) is behind 'Hercules &
Love Affair'. This single 'Blind' featuring guest Antony Hegarty (lead vocalist in Antony &
The Johnsons) and was released March 2008.
Andrew Butler, began his musical career at 15, DJing in a Denver leather bar run by a hostess called Chocolate Thunder Pussy. He then moved to Brooklyn, in order to attend Sarah Lawrence College. According to Butler: 'I\u2019ve been writing songs since childhood. I made music for dance performances in college (where he studied under Corky St. Clair), like a remake of Gino Soccio\u2019s \u2018Runaway\u2019 done in the style of Kraftwerk.
I am so glad thats cleared up then!
A new album is apparently immenent, which explains why I have been playing this track recently.
Almost made me go out and buy a triangle, that lead out.

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) was founded by Thomas Rhodes Armitage, a successful doctor who suffered from eyesight problems.
In 1868 Dr Armitage founded an organisation known as the British and Foreign Society for Improving Embossed Literature for the Blind. This later became the British and Foreign Blind Association. In 1875 Her Majesty Queen Victoria became the organisation's first patron.
The organisation received a Royal Charter in 1948, and changed its name to Royal National Institute for the Blind in 1953. RNIB's vision is of a world in which blind and partially sighted people enjoy the same rights, freedom, responsibilities and quality of life as people who are fully sighted.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4704019146 - 'The Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, England was started in 1903. It is situated on the Bristol Channel approximately 18 miles south west of Bristol in the seaside town.
It is supported in true victorian fashion by 600 iron piles, and is 400 metres long. Unfortunatly it has form where fire is concerned. It has been damaged by fire on two occasions in 1930 and 2008.
At 01:35 on the 28 July 2008, a fire at the foot of the north tower on the shoreward (eastern) end of the pavilion triggered the privately monitored fire alarm. The Essex-based alarm monitoring company were unable to contact the key-holder by mobile phone and no further action was taken.
It was not until 06:46 that the Avon Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS) was notified, by this time a hefty blaze was under way. It deployed 13 fire engines, special appliances, and more than 85 firefighters to tackle the blaze, but the building was soon destroyed.
Robert Tinker, a Grand Pier employee, was later praised by the fire service as he braved the extreme intensity of the heat from the flames to rush around the side of the building to remove several gas canisters which had been stored within the premises, had these not been removed the AFRS claim that the fire could have been much worse and with the possibility of needing evacuation of local residents and traders.
Preliminary investigations suggested that the fire started due to a number of deep fat fryers which had been located within the area pavilion, however after further investigation this was later ruled out, as was arson. On 22 October a news conference was held by AFRS who announced that despite their efforts the cause of the fire would be recorded as unknown, but that the most likely cause was an electrical fire.
Workmen began dismantling the wreckage on 12th September and a design competition for the new pavilion was won by the Bristol-based Angus Meek Architects' on 15th October. On 7th December it was announced that a slowly rotating 91 metres (299 ft) tall observation tower was proposed along with the new building.
On 12 March 2009, North Somerset Council approved the plans, which are to cost \u00a334 million. The new pavilion is expected to open in the summer of 2010. On 5 August 2009 it was announced that contractors John Sisk &
Son Ltd had been selected to construct the new pavilion and it was hoped that it would be completed by July 2010. These lads are working on the project. Jeff Bonvallet is at the far right.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4573001216 - 'I have seen those shots with cameroon (sic cameron shurely?) as Elvis, but I was amazed to see Mr George Osbourne defaced looking like Adolf Hitler of the would be new World order while driving home through the edges of knutsford. possibly a bit severe, I dont think Adolf had the wealth of George, however by the same ruling chances are the Conservatives will be making some severe cuts, not suggesting we invade Poland or anything as european as that.
George is heir to the Osborne baronetcy (of Ballentaylor in the County of Waterford, Ireland). This makes him a part of what is known in Ireland as the Ascendancy, the old Anglo-Irish aristocracy. His father, Sir Peter Osborne, 17th Baronet, is co-founder of the fabric and wallpapers designers, Osborne &
Little. Osborne's wealth is estimated at \u00a34.3m by the New Statesman www.newstatesman.com/uk-politics/2009/10/oxford-universit... . He is also reported to be next in line to inherit a substantial share of Osborne &
Little, his father's luxury wall\u00adpaper company, which is thought to be worth over \u00a31 billion. so he would fit well in one of Britains safest Tory seats here in Tatton. Hopefully he would look to the needs of his constituents lower down the social ladder, customers of Cheshire Peaks &
Plains Housing Trust, Contour Homes or Great Places Housing Group as well as the more affluent.
After achieving an upper 2nd class degree at Magdalen College at Oxford University and being a member of the Bullingdon Club, a private dining club of Oxford University students (which was 'infamous for riotous behaviour' and was open only to sons of aristocratic families and the wealthy. Osborne's friends David Cameron and Nat Rothschild were also members of the club), he tried to persue a career as a journalist, but then moved to a vacent position at Conservative Central Office. he cut his teeth on the Prime Minister's Questions team for the various Conservative incumbent leaders Hague, Howard and cameron. Indeed, Osbourne and Cameron are godfathers to each other's children, so this may make his position safer.
The graffitti is interesting as it suggests a Europe leaning overtone, one that tories would rarther hide under the carpet for the moment. How palitable would a referendum on leaving the EU? Marginal if that.
Having said that, its looking more like a hung or balanced parliament might be imminent. We in Britain could be heading for Cleggagedden, whatever that means. Personally, I would like the best of all worlds if possible. The best of the free market and the social conscience with a respect for the environment and each other. If I see that with proportional representation or a (well) 'hung parliament' then so it must be.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4578869286 - 'Bob is the handy man at the Blakemere Craft Centre, Sandiway Cheshire. I spotted his lovely beard and got chatting to him. He has had his face fungus now for well over 20 years. On one occasion when he had it shaved off at the barbers he was so unrecognisable that his next door neighbour thought he was a burgler, who had climbed into the back garden! He was simply unrecognisable!
Bob does alsorts around the centre which has now grown into quite a multi-faceted complex. There is even a working Brewery making traditionally crafted cask ales on the site. Yep I do have a nose for that kind of stuff!
In the course of history, men with facial hair have been ascribed various attributes such as wisdom and knowledge, sexual virility, masculinity, or high social status
and, conversely, filthiness, crudeness, or an eccentric disposition. In many cultures, beards are associated with nature and outdoorsmen. I remember in my mis-spent youth enjoying the band ZZ Top, strangely the only member of the band without a beard is in fact called Frank Beard (credited as Rube Beard on early LP's). However it must be said that he did in fact sport some facial hair, generally only a trimmed mustache.
In 1984, the Gillette Company (one of the worlds largest razor manufacturers) reportedly offered Gibbons and Hill (the bearded members of ZZ Top) $1 million each to shave their beards for a television commercial. They allegedly declined, saying 'We're too ugly without 'em'. Apparently the name came from blues guitar master B. B. King. The band had planned to call themselves ZZ. King, but felt it was too similar. Since B.B. King was at the 'top', they settled on ZZ Top.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4574527758 - 'Lucky Pete outside his traditional british chippy at 4 Winnington Lane, Northwich, Cheshire. I have had a few chip suppers from Petes when photographing gigs and bands just down the road at the w=33062170@N08\'>Winnington Park Rec'. I can recommend his fish in cajun spiced batter, just have some lager at the ready! His sign states 'Simply The Best Chippy In Winnington'. That cannot be denied as he has the 'only' chippy in Winnington, however he does do top chips!
Fish and chips, often referred to as national takeaway food of these islands originated in the victorian era. It is pretty much everywhere and even in rural areas, like Cornwall or Mull, it often arrives by mobile van in the evening. Around 1860, it is legend that the first fish and chip shop was opened in London by Jewish proprietor Joseph Malin who married together 'fish fried in the Jewish fashion' with thick chiped potatoes. In 1863 the chip shop reached Manchester, when a Mr Lees opened a shop in Mossley. Interestingly, throughout world war II, fish and chips remained one of the few foods in the United Kingdom not subject to rationing. Salt and vinegar (spirit preferred) or gravy usually goes with it.
Across britain, fish and chip shops offer a varied menu. Pete covers the usual staples
mushy peas, Dinaclass curry sauce, sausages, heated (but not fried) pies and suit puddings, gravy, fried chicken. Further north you can expect scallops (wide slices of potato in batter), deep fried Mars bars, deep fried pizza and haggis are popular in Scotland. In Edinburgh you would most likely buy a 'supper' with 'Salt n sauce' (watered down brown sauce - 'sottensauce'). In many places you can buy a whole picked egg or individual pickled onions too. In east Anglia and the south east fish roes or rock salmon can often be found.
Most places use vegatable oil these days, but a few proudly fry in lard (and generally have a sign outside shouting the fact). Waste frying oil is sometimes nowadays used to make bio-diesel. Older diesel cars can often run on it without modification. I would not try it in a HDI style engine though!
As a kid I remember the local chippy doing fizzy minerals too. Ben Shaws from Huddesfield with 2p back on the bottle, which was returned. Collect enough of those to take back and you had enough for a bag of chips with batter bits (and pea-wet if you couldn't afford a proper portion of green mushy peas). You always got it in newspaper too, that was before the possible perils of printers ink were legislated for. Still the terrible names are still there
Codfellas, FryDays, 'Good Buy Mr Chips', 'The Fryery' , 'The Codfather', 'The Frying Scotsman' and the classic 'Assault and Battery'.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4544077808 - 'Arthur's sword in Welsh legend is known as Caledfwlch. Its used by Arthur's warrior Llenlleawg the Irishman to kill the Irish king Diwrnach while stealing his magical cauldron. In Cornish the word Calesvol is used in literature to describe it and appears to have either come from the Welsh name or be an early pre-celtic word for it. At any rate the legend in various forms can be found in many northern european cultures.
Excalibur is by no means the only weapon associated with Arthur, nor the only sword, but the one that gets all the publicity.
Alfred, Lord Tennyson described it in 'The Passing of Arthur' ('Morte d'Arthur') in these words:
There drew he forth the brand Excalibur,
And o\u2019er him, drawing it, the winter moon,
Brightening the skirts of a long cloud, ran forth
And sparkled keen with frost against the hilt:
For all the haft twinkled with diamond sparks,
Myriads of topaz-lights, and jacinth-work
Of subtlest jewellery.
The Lady of the Lake is the name of several related characters in the different legends and interpretations. The Scotsman Walter Scott transported the legend to Loch Katrine, near Callander in central Scotland. In more recent times she appears as a character in the Spamalot musical and on Richie Blackmore's Rainbow 'Long Live Rock and Roll' album from the late 1970's.
With a delicate move kind of shifty and smooth
A shadow has covered the light
Then a beam in the shade from a slivery blade
Has shattered the edge of the night
Ahhh... takes me back to my mis-spent youth!

The name was changed to Jaguar after World War II due to the unfavourable connotations of the SS initials. It was aquired by Ford in 1989 and is now part of the indian Tata steel and manufacturing group.
Jaguar cars are designed in Jaguar Land Rover's engineering centres at the Whitley plant in Coventry and at Gaydon in Warwickshire, and are manufactured in two of Jaguar Land Rover's plants
Castle Bromwich assembly plant in Birmingham and at the old Ford Halewood Body &

Two of the proudest moments in Jaguar's long history in motor sport involved winning the Le Mans 24 hours race, firstly in 1956 and again in 1957, in the hands of the little known Scottish racing team called Ecurie Ecosse whose name later went down in legendary status for twice pulling off a David v Goliath effort in the famed car killing race.
The Jaguar XF is marketted a mid-size executive car that was introduced in 2008 to replace the out-going S-Type in the company's line-up. In January 2008, the XF was awarded the What Car? Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4492605381 - 'A used law enforcement target with holes from a standard US police issue 9mm Glock 17 pistol.
The Glock is a series of semi-automatic pistols designed and produced by Glock GmbH, located in Deutsch-Wagram, Austria. Glock commands over 65% of the market share of handguns for United States law enforcement agencies.
The Glock 17 became a standard NATO-classified sidearm and was granted a NATO Stock Number 1005/25/133/6775.
The Glock 17 is a 9mm short recoil-operated locked breech semi-automatic pistol that uses a modified Browning cam-lock system adapted from the Hi-Power pistol. The firearm's locking mechanism utilizes a linkless, vertically tilting barrel with a rectangular breech that locks into the ejection port cut-out in the slide. During the recoil stroke, the barrel moves rearward initially locked together with the slide approximately 3 mm (0.12 in) until the bullet leaves the barrel and chamber pressure drops to a safe level. Thus care must be taken to keep your lower thumb of the hand clear when using the pistol. Otherwise your skin can aquire a tasty rip or bruise.

The Roman Baths complex is a site of historical interest in the English city of Bath. The house is a well-preserved Roman site for public bathing.
The Roman Baths themselves are below the modern street level. There are four main features: the Sacred Spring, the Roman Temple, the Roman Bath House and the Museum holding finds from Roman Bath. The buildings above street level date from the 19th century.
The Baths are a major tourist attraction and, together with the Grand Pump Room, receive more than one million visitors a year, with 1,037,518 people during 2009. It was featured on the 2005 TV program Seven Natural Wonders as one of the wonders of the West Country. Visitors can see the Baths and Museum but cannot enter the water. An audio guide is available in several languages.
In 2009 a grant of £90,000 was made to Bath and North East Somerset Council to contribute towards the cost of re-developing displays and improving access to the Roman Baths, by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport/Wolfson Fund, which was established to promote improvements in Museums and Galleries in England.

Manchesters second smallest boozer, with room for approximately twenty people including the feisty bar maid. The kind of venue where the music would stop when you walked in - that's if they had room for speakers - but within half an hour you'd be on first name terms with the regulars.
Not exactly a vast array of cocktails (This is more for the beer drinkers and G&T lovers) this is a bar that you hope will stay in Manchester for ever. Mr Gidman doing an excellent job in Stockton Heath at the dental practice.
In this day and age in western countries we should be able to eat ourselves out of a trip to the dentist
Foods that help muscles and bones also help teeth and gums. Breads and cereals are rich in vitamin B while fruits (an apple a day... ) and vegetables contain vitamin C, both of which contribute to healthy gum tissue. Lean meat, fish, and poultry provide magnesium and zinc for teeth. Some people recommend that teeth be brushed after every meal and at bedtime, and flossed at least once per day, preferably at night before sleep. For some people, flossing might be recommended after every meal.
Some foods may protect against cavities. Fluoride is a primary protector against dental cavities. Fluoride makes the surface of teeth more resistant to acids during the process of remineralisation. Drinking fluoridated water is recommended by some dental professionals while others say that using toothpaste alone is enough.
Milk and cheese are also rich in calcium and phosphate, and may also encourage remineralisation. All foods increase saliva production, and since saliva contains buffer chemicals this helps to stabilize the pH to near 7 (neutral) in the mouth. Foods high in fiber may also help to increase the flow of saliva. Sugar-free chewing gum stimulates saliva production, and helps to clean the surface of the teeth.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 3812467275 - 'A counciller at work in meeting room at Warrington Peace Centre, Cheshire UK.
On 20 March 1993, the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) detonated two bombs in Warrington town centre. The blasts killed two children: three year old Jonathan Ball died instantly, and twelve year old Tim Parry died five days later in hospital. Around 56 other people were injured - 4 seriously. Their deaths provoked widespread condemnation of the organisation responsible. The blast followed a failed bomb attack a few weeks earlier on a gas storage plant in Warrington.
Tim Parry's father Colin Parry founded The Peace Centre (formerly the Tim Parry Jonathan Ball Peace Centre) as part of a campaign to reconcile communities in conflict. The centre opened on the seventh anniversary of the bombing in 2000.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PJNEXF - Neglected accessible toilet cubicle in the United Kingdom, with loose and used toilet tissue scattered across the tiled floor around a raised white lavatory fitted with a dark contrasting seat. The untidy and apparently unhygienic condition suggests that the facility has not been inspected, cleaned or replenished frequently enough. For a disabled visitor who may depend upon this specially adapted space, such poor maintenance can turn an essential public facility into an unpleasant, undignified and potentially unsafe environment.
The cubicle includes several features intended to support wheelchair users and people with limited mobility. Horizontal blue grab rails run along the tiled walls, while a padded fold-down support rail is positioned behind the toilet. A stainless steel flushing panel is mounted above the WC, and a large circular toilet-paper dispenser is fixed to the adjacent wall. However, the dispenser appears open or incomplete and several cardboard tubes remain exposed, while torn paper and debris are visible on the floor. Accessibility equipment alone does not provide genuine inclusion when basic cleanliness, consumable supplies and routine supervision are missing.
Accessible toilets can be crucial to a person's ability to travel, work, shop, attend appointments and participate independently in everyday public life. Their condition therefore concerns more than ordinary housekeeping. A dirty or unusable disabled lavatory may create additional barriers for wheelchair users, older people, carers and anyone requiring extra space or support. It can also communicate that their comfort, health and dignity have been treated as a lower priority.
UK workplace guidance requires sanitary facilities to be maintained in a clean and orderly condition, while organisations providing services must consider reasonable adjustments and equal access for disabled people. Regular inspection records, responsive cleaning arrangements, replenished supplies and prompt reporting

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K69A4H - Gloucester Services are a pair of Motorway Service Areas (MSA) serving the northbound and southbound carriageways of the M5 between Junction 11A and Junction 12, near Whaddon, Gloucester. It specialises in selling artisanal food, and does not offer outlets for popular chain food brands.
Construction of the northbound services began in early 2013, and they officially opened on 7 May 2014. Construction of the southbound services commenced in March 2014 and they opened on 19 May 2015
In September 2009, the independent motorway services operator Westmorland Motorway Services Ltd, jointly with a local charitable trust, Gloucestershire Gateway Trust, submitted plans for a service area at Matson for public consultation. The plans were for a business operated in a similar manner to Tebay Services on the M6 in Cumbria, with much of the food and produce on sale being sourced from local suppliers
The operator promised not to host chain coffee shops, fast-food outlets, or video and gambling machines
The service area supports the Gloucestershire Gateway Trust in assisting the business to provide good jobs for more deprived areas of Gloucester, and to support local social regeneration schemes.
The 2019 Motorway Services User Survey found that Gloucester's southbound side was in the top five motorway services in the UK for customer satisfaction
The District Council was informed at the end of February 2011 that Roadchef and Welcome Break (the operators of Strensham and Michaelwood service stations) had applied to the High Court for a judicial review of the Council's decision to grant planning permission. Joined in the action were CAMSA and the Parish Councils of Brookthorpe-with-Whaddon and Harescombe. The case was heard in the High Court in Birmingham on 17 and 18 January 2012. By 8 February 2012, the High Court had dismissed all challenges to the planning application
One of the factors that helped the development gain planning permission was the inclusion of a green roof

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2ADR2CY - If you're looking for some festive cheer, Manchester plays host to one of the biggest and best Christmas Sehenswürdigkeiten outside of Germany, with more than 300 wooden chalets spread across 10 different locations throughout the city.
Originally introduced to the city in 1999, the Christmas markets have grown bigger and better each year, attracting Europe's finest street food vendors and crafters. It's a great place to buy Yuletide gifts, such as fine jewellery, handcrafted leather bags and artisan soaps. Your taste buds will also be tantalised with so many wide ranging food options on offer, including things like German bratwurst, hog roast, Spanish paella and Dutch pancakes. Yum!
Thought Christmas markets were just for December? This year the Christmas Markets will open in November in Manchester city centre, so there's plenty of time to don your best Christmas jumper, drink mulled wine and chow down on pretzels.

The six self-governing Australian colonies that formed the Commonwealth of Australia on 1 January 1901 operated their own postal service and issued their own stamps “ see articles on the systems on New South Wales (first stamps issued 1850), Victoria (1850), Tasmania (1853), Western Australia (1854), South Australia (1855) and Queensland (1860). Under section 51(v) of the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution 1900, postal, telegraphic, telephonic, and other like services became a Commonwealth responsibility.
The Commonwealth's Postmaster-General's Department became effective on 1 March 1901 (this agency would be disaggregated on 1 July 1975 in part into the Australian Postal Commission trading as Australia Post). All then-current colony stamps which continued on sale became de facto Commonwealth stamps. Some of these stamps continued to be used for some time following the introduction in 1913 of the Commonwealth's uniform postage stamp series. These stamps continued to be valid for postage until 14 February 1966 when the introduction of decimal currency made all stamps bearing the earlier currency invalid for use.
There have been many special issues. The first Christmas stamp appeared on 6 November 1957. In recent years, designs for the Christmas issue have alternated each year between the religious and the secular. From 1993, in October of every year, Australia Post has commemorated Stamp Collecting month with special issues, typically featuring topics that are of interest to children such as pets, native fauna and space. Commencing with the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, during the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, stamps featuring Australians who have won an Olympic gold medal are issued on the next postal business day after the achievement.
