Details have been released by the Pride event set to be held at Warrington's Golden Square to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community
Golden Square have released the timings and events for some of their Pride events set to be held on June 24.
The details were released today, June 1, the first day of the UK's Pride month. Pride is held in June in the UK due to the historical significance of the Stonewall riots that began in June of 1969.
This is the first official pride event in several years in Warrington and coincides with the tragic death of Brianna Ghey in February.
The announcement laid out the day of events across Warrington pride at Golden Square.
Inside the mall there will be an LGBTQ+ information support hub running from 9am to 6pm.
In the old market place there will be events running from 11am till 11pm, ranging from workshops, to queer fashiosn shows, and even a silent disco
This will be finished off with a DJ set with Fleur East at 6pm, as well as a DJ set an aerial show from Crystal from RuPaul's Drag Race UK. This DJ set will be a free ticketed event

Commissioned and paid for by Titus Salt in the mid 19th century, the church is a Grade I listed building and sits within the Saltaire World Heritage Site.
When Titus Salt, a devoted member of the Congregational church, commenced the design and construction of his model village at Saltaire, a Congregational church was the first public building commissioned. Salt donated the land and paid for the cost of the church himself, a cost of £16,000 (equivalent to £1,713,080 in 2021).
The church was designed, as was the rest of Saltaire, by the Bradford-based architect partnership of Lockwood and Mawson in the Italianate Classical style. Local firms were used for the works. The firm of John Ives did the woodwork and carvings while Moulton Brothers undertook the masonry work.
Since 1972 the church has been known as Saltaire United Reformed Church following the merger of Congregational Church in England and Wales and the Presbyterian Church of England.
The ceiling of the church was badly damaged and partially collapsed due to being affected by Storm Dennis in February 2020

Around 1903/4 it was rebult in its current form for Brains Brewery.
The Golden Cross is alleged to be the site of a fight involving a young Rocky Marciano, who was stationed in Wales during his time in the United States Army during World War 2. Also during the war, the fascist leader Oswald Mosley attempted to hold a meeting at the pub but violent opposition forced him to return to London.
The pub was given listed status by Cadw in May 1975, but despite this it was threatened with demolition in 1979 as part of a road-widening scheme. However it was reprieved after a campaign led by the South Wales Echo. In 2010 it was listed by CAMRA as one of their 10 most unspoilt pubs by the CAMRA Pub Heritage Group and is listed on CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.
The Golden Cross has become a popular gay friendly pub, with regular drag acts and entertainment. It was voted in 2004 as the best gay pub in the UK. The pub remains a tied house of the Brains Brewery.

The pedestrianised street, which runs along the west side of the Rochdale Canal, is lined with gay bars and restaurants. 90's Focus led to several of the pubs on or near Canal Street acquiring a predominantly gay clientele. In 1991, Manto (Manchester Tomorrow) bar opened at no. 46. It was built in 1989 by Benedict Smith Architects. Unlike the other gay bars at that time, Manto had large glass windows, allowing the casual passer-by to view what was going on inside. Previously, many establishments catering for the gay community were often keen to conceal activities from the general public, but the architectural design of Manto was seen as a queer visual statement of we're here, we're queer “ get used to it, and a brick-and-mortar refusal to hide any more, or to remain underground and invisible.
Over the next decade, more numerous and larger bars opened along the canal side, turning Canal Street into the centre of the most successful gay village in Europe. Because of this, the Canal Street street signs are regularly defaced to read Anal Treet or Anal Street. The success was further enhanced by the use of Canal Street and its bars in several television series, including Bob and Rose and Queer as Folk, both written by Russell T Davies. James Anderton, when questioned about the policing of the Canal Street area, denied that he was motivated by anti-gay prejudice and was merely enforcing the law on sexual activity in public toilets. Greater Manchester Police under his leadership ran a strict licensing regime for bars and nightclubs in the central Manchester area. Anderton retired in 1991.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4704019146 - 'The Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, England was started in 1903. It is situated on the Bristol Channel approximately 18 miles south west of Bristol in the seaside town.
It is supported in true victorian fashion by 600 iron piles, and is 400 metres long. Unfortunatly it has form where fire is concerned. It has been damaged by fire on two occasions in 1930 and 2008.
At 01:35 on the 28 July 2008, a fire at the foot of the north tower on the shoreward (eastern) end of the pavilion triggered the privately monitored fire alarm. The Essex-based alarm monitoring company were unable to contact the key-holder by mobile phone and no further action was taken.
It was not until 06:46 that the Avon Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS) was notified, by this time a hefty blaze was under way. It deployed 13 fire engines, special appliances, and more than 85 firefighters to tackle the blaze, but the building was soon destroyed.
Robert Tinker, a Grand Pier employee, was later praised by the fire service as he braved the extreme intensity of the heat from the flames to rush around the side of the building to remove several gas canisters which had been stored within the premises, had these not been removed the AFRS claim that the fire could have been much worse and with the possibility of needing evacuation of local residents and traders.
Preliminary investigations suggested that the fire started due to a number of deep fat fryers which had been located within the area pavilion, however after further investigation this was later ruled out, as was arson. On 22 October a news conference was held by AFRS who announced that despite their efforts the cause of the fire would be recorded as unknown, but that the most likely cause was an electrical fire.
Workmen began dismantling the wreckage on 12th September and a design competition for the new pavilion was won by the Bristol-based Angus Meek Architects' on 15th October. On 7th December it was announced that a slowly rotating 91 metres (299 ft) tall observation tower was proposed along with the new building.
On 12 March 2009, North Somerset Council approved the plans, which are to cost \u00a334 million. The new pavilion is expected to open in the summer of 2010. On 5 August 2009 it was announced that contractors John Sisk &
Son Ltd had been selected to construct the new pavilion and it was hoped that it would be completed by July 2010. These lads are working on the project. Jeff Bonvallet is at the far right.

Streets like a jungle......
'Boys and girls' was the lead single from the 'Park Life' album. It was Blur's first top 5 UK hit and most successful single until 'Country House' reached number 1 the following year. The single was seen as a comeback for the band, who had had a lean commercial period for a couple of years. The song surpassed the band's previous commercial peak 'There's No Other Way' by three spots on the UK Singles Chart.
The video, directed by 10cc's Kevin Godley, featured Blur performing the song against a bluescreen backdrop of documentary footage people on 18-30 package holidays. Godley branded the video as 'Page 3 rubbish' while Blur found it 'perfect'. The front cover of the single was taken from a pack of Durex condoms.
In 1994, the song was named single of the year by NME and Melody Maker in the UK. It was also nominated for best song at the MTV Europe Music Awards. Everyone should own at least one Blur album, my choice would be the 'Midlife: A Beginner's Guide to Blur'. Track it down, tell 'em I sent you.

Manchester has a wealth of LGBT culture and activities. The sitcom drama 'Queer as folk' was set in the Canal St area of the city. 20th century broadcaster and social commentator Brian Redhead once said 'Manchester ... is the capital, in every sense, of the North of England, where the modern world was born. The people know their geography is without equal. Their history is their response to it'. Whilst Ian Brown of the Stone Roses has previously said that 'Manchester has everything except a beach' (er.. top man, bob-on!).
Manchester has claimed to have the UK's largest gay population outside of London. Gay Village, centred on the Canal Street area, is home to numerous shops, restaurants, bars and clubs. On the last weekend in August it hosts the Manchester Pride Festival (previously known as Mardi Gras and Gayfest).
Manchester's gay culture was brought to mainstream attention on television series Queer as Folk and Coronation Street. It is also the birthplace of several gay rights organisations including the Campaign for Homosexual Equality, Queer Youth Alliance, The Lesbian &
Gay Foundation.
Manchester has its own gay sports teams, Village Manchester FC (soccer), Northern Wave (swimming) and Village Spartans (Rugby) which take part in Manchester's annual Pride Games. In the 1990s Manchester City Council gave support to the establishment of a gay centre and employed four lesbians and gay men to help implement their equal opportunity policy. Their work continued in spite of Section 28 and the City Council actively supported the Mardi Gras and other gay events.
The year round gay and lesbian heritage trail exhibits Manchester's gay history. In 2003, Manchester played host city to the annual Europride festival. The Lesbian &
Gay Foundation, Britain's biggest gay charity, is based on Richmond Street in the city centre. Manchester Metropolitan University has been named the most gay friendly university in the UK.
