Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3F06EH9 - Taken on 05 Jul 2026, this editorial sports image shows Max Verstappen of Oracle Red Bull Racing walking back along the trackside service route at Silverstone Circuit after retiring from the Formula One British Grand Prix. Wearing his dark blue Red Bull race suit and carrying his crash helmet, Verstappen appears to wave towards spectators as he passes the barriers and fencing near Stowe corner. The scene is photographed through catch fencing from a fan viewpoint, with tyre barriers, gravel trap, hard trackside surfaces and temporary event infrastructure all helping to place the image firmly within the immediate aftermath of a major race incident.
This picture works especially well as an editorial image because it captures the human moment after the incident rather than the car itself: a leading driver on foot, acknowledging the crowd after his race has ended. It pairs strongly with coverage of Verstappen spinning into the Stowe gravel trap late in the race. Formula 1's official coverage confirmed he went off into the gravel from a podium position at Stowe corner, while Reuters reported afterwards that Verstappen blamed a rear wing attachment problem, describing the issue as dangerous. Silverstone's official event material confirms the 2026 British Grand Prix setting, while the circuit's ticketing pages refer to the Landostand area associated with Lando Norris fans. Relevant themes include Formula 1 drama, race retirement, driver frustration, championship pressure, mechanical failure, trackside walkback, fan reaction, British motorsport spectacle and the emotional aftermath of elite competition. The image is also useful for broader editorial coverage of Max Verstappen, Red Bull reliability concerns, Formula One safety issues and the atmosphere of a packed race day at one of Britain's best-known motorsport venues

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3F078WB - 05/07/2026, this editorial motorsport image shows the recovery of Max Verstappen's Oracle Red Bull Racing Formula 1 car after his crash at Stowe corner during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit. The Red Bull is in the gravel trap, with track marshals and recovery staff working around the car while a yellow JCB telehandler prepares to lift and remove it from the runoff area. The photograph is taken through Silverstone's catch fencing from a spectator position, giving the image a strong racegoer viewpoint and clearly showing the gravel, circuit barriers, tyre wall, trackside signage and grandstand areas beyond.
The image has strong editorial value because it captures the practical aftermath of a major Formula 1 race incident rather than a clean, posed motorsport scene. Formula 1's own coverage said Verstappen went off into the gravel from a podium position at Stowe corner, while Reuters reported that Verstappen described Red Bull's rear wing as dangerous after the crash and said the wing was not fully attaching as he turned into the corner. Formula 1 later reported that Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies accepted Verstappen was right to be unhappy after the car spun into the Stowe gravel trap four laps from the end of the British Grand Prix.
The recovery scene is also visually tied to the Lando Norris Landostand area, connecting the image with both the Red Bull retirement story and the wider fan culture around the 2026 Silverstone race weekend. With JCB machinery, marshals in orange overalls, safety fencing, crowd areas, Aramco advertising and Explora Journeys circuit boards visible, the image is suitable for stories about Formula 1 safety, Red Bull reliability, race recovery operations, British Grand Prix drama, mechanical failure, high-speed corner risks, Silverstone spectators, motorsport infrastructure, elite sporting pressure and the unpredictable nature of live Grand Prix racing. Silverstone's official event material confirms the 2026 British GP

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3F078MH - Jul 2026, this editorial motorsport image shows a large portrait board of McLaren Formula 1 driver Lando Norris beside the decorated Landostand area at Silverstone Circuit during the British Grand Prix weekend. Norris is pictured in his orange McLaren race suit on a tall promotional display, with his name and Union Flag graphic visible beside him. To the right of the portrait, the three yellow and black patterned Landostand structures at Stowe corner are visible, with spectators seated and standing on the grass in front of them.
The image captures the highly branded fan environment around one of Britain's most popular Formula 1 drivers. Rather than showing track action, it records the commercial and emotional side of the Grand Prix: driver imagery, supporter areas, team colours, fan gathering spaces and the festival-style atmosphere that now surrounds major racing events. The bright sky, scattered cloud, green grass, seated crowds, yellow flags and distinctive Landostand patterns help place the scene firmly in a summer Silverstone race weekend.
This picture is particularly useful for editorial themes around Lando Norris, McLaren Racing, Formula One fandom, British Grand Prix spectators, home driver support, branded grandstands, fan zones, sports marketing, motorsport tourism and the changing audience culture of modern F1. The combination of the Lando Norris portrait board, McLaren papaya branding and the yellow Landostand backdrop gives the image strong search relevance for stories about driver popularity, dedicated supporter sections, Silverstone spectator experiences, race-day entertainment, Formula 1 merchandise culture and the wider growth of the sport as a lifestyle event. It also works for coverage of how major venues use large-scale graphics, colour-coded fan sections and photo opportunities to build stronger connections between drivers, teams and paying spectators

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3F0K35X - Large vertical promotional banner featuring British Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton flies against a bright blue summer sky at Silverstone Circuit during the 2026 British Grand Prix weekend. Hamilton is pictured wearing the distinctive red and white racing uniform of Scuderia Ferrari HP, with prominent Ferrari, HP, Shell and ZYN sponsorship branding visible across the printed portrait.
The driver's name appears in white lettering above his head, accompanied by a stylised Union Jack graphic identifying him as a British competitor. The fabric banner is attached to a white flagpole and catches the wind, creating folds and movement across the photographic image. Hamilton's braided hairstyle, diamond stud earrings and carefully composed publicity portrait form part of Ferrari's contemporary visual identity and trackside marketing.
Hamilton joined Ferrari for the 2025 Formula 1 season after a long and highly successful career with Mercedes. A seven-time Formula 1 World Champion and one of the most recognised figures in international sport, he has a particularly strong association with Silverstone and the British Grand Prix. His appearance in Ferrari colours therefore represented a major attraction for home supporters attending the Northamptonshire circuit.
The 2026 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix was held from 2 to 5 July, with practice and Sprint Qualifying on Friday, the Sprint and main qualifying session on Saturday, and the Grand Prix on Sunday 5 July. Hamilton qualified third and finished the race in third place for Ferrari, behind teammate Charles Leclerc and Mercedes driver George Russell.
Driver banners, team flags and branded displays are widely used around modern Formula 1 venues to identify competitors, decorate spectator areas and reinforce relationships between teams and commercial partners. This close-up photograph records the mixture of sporting celebrity, national identity, corporate sponsorship and Ferrari branding surrounding Hamilton's home Gran

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3F0K3F7 - Panoramic view across the Silverstone Fanzone during the Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix in July 2026. Hundreds of motorsport spectators are gathered on the grass between temporary grandstands and event structures beneath a vivid blue summer sky. Some visitors sit in groups resting, eating or checking phones, while others walk through the busy open space wearing team colours, caps, backpacks and Formula 1 merchandise.
The exceptionally wide format captures the scale and informal festival atmosphere of the fan area. Covered spectator structures frame both sides of the photograph, with flags, signs, hospitality units and entertainment facilities visible across the distant horizon. The image shows how the modern British Grand Prix extends far beyond racing on the circuit, combining world-class motorsport with live music, interviews, interactive attractions, food, retail and social spaces.
The 2026 Formula 1 British Grand Prix took place at Silverstone from 2 to 5 July, with the main race held on Sunday 5 July. The programme included practice, Sprint Qualifying, the Sprint race, qualifying and the Grand Prix, alongside support racing and extensive off-track entertainment. Silverstone promoted access to its stages, entertainment zones, F1 Fanzone and museum as part of the general admission experience.
Silverstone Circuit occupies the former RAF Silverstone airfield near Towcester in Northamptonshire. It hosted the first race of the inaugural Formula 1 World Championship in 1950 and remains closely associated with the history and identity of British motor racing. The large attendance, casual seating and colourful crowd seen here illustrate the event's evolution into a major four-day sporting and entertainment festival. The panorama also records the practical experience of a summer race weekend, when spectators move between track viewing areas, large screens, stages, merchandise outlets and places to rest between sessions

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3F0K3G9 - McLaren Formula 1 merchandise stand displays large promotional portraits of drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris beside the Stirling A grandstand at Silverstone Circuit during the 2026 British Grand Prix. Both drivers are pictured in the team's distinctive papaya-orange racing overalls, turning the kiosk wall into a highly visible piece of fan branding and event advertising. The portraits face spectators moving through the public concourse, while customers browse inside the open-fronted retail unit.
The image captures the commercial and supporter culture surrounding a modern Formula One race weekend. Team clothing, caps, accessories and branded souvenirs are a major part of the spectator experience, allowing fans to show loyalty to individual drivers and constructors. Sponsor logos are visible across the display, including the Mastercard identity above the portraits and eBay branding on the structure behind. The neighbouring pink access tower is marked Box! Stirling A , clearly locating the scene in the spectator facilities near the grandstand.
Temporary stairs, hospitality structures, fencing, trackside infrastructure and people in summer clothing place the display within Silverstone's busy event landscape. Dry grass, sunshine, blue sky and scattered white clouds give the photograph the atmosphere of a warm British Grand Prix weekend. The composition also records Piastri and Norris as McLaren teammates at a time of intense public interest in the team, its drivers and Formula One merchandise.
Silverstone hosted the 2026 British Grand Prix weekend from 3 to 5 July. Stirling A overlooks the approach to the high-speed Copse area and forms part of the circuit's grandstand network. The image is suitable for editorial coverage of Formula One fandom, motorsport retailing, sports sponsorship, driver popularity, branded clothing, race attendance, event merchandising, commercial partnerships and the consumer economy surrounding international motor racing.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3F0K3GG - Escapade Silverstone's distinctive clubhouse stands beside the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in Northamptonshire, England, during a busy race weekend. The modern angular building carries large red ESCAPADE lettering above a long glazed upper floor, while spectators and motorsport fans walk past under a bright summer sky with scattered cloud. People can also be seen on the rooftop terrace, which provides elevated views towards some of the circuit's most celebrated corners.
The development occupies a trackside site between Copse, Maggotts and Becketts, placing guests close to one of Formula One's fastest and most technically demanding sequences. Escapade combines high-end accommodation with motorsport hospitality and comprises 60 private contemporary residences providing 184 ensuite bedrooms. The residences include open-plan living areas, terraces or balconies and views over either the racing circuit or the surrounding Northamptonshire countryside.
At the centre of the development is the clubhouse, known as The Gallery. Facilities include a trackside restaurant and bar, private dining space, rooftop terrace, 15-metre swimming pool, sauna, treatment rooms and a driver-focused gym. Broad windows and the projecting upper level maximise views across the circuit while creating a bold architectural landmark beside the spectator route.
Escapade opened in 2024 as an immersive luxury trackside hotel and residential development. It offers year-round stays as well as accommodation and hospitality during major events including the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. The image captures the contrast between exclusive modern lodging and the informal crowds circulating around Silverstone on an event day. The clubhouse, residences and leisure facilities reflect the circuit's evolution from a motor-racing venue into a destination for tourism, corporate events, dining, wellness and motorsport experiences.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3ENT4CY - Close-up editorial image of an iPhone displaying digital tickets for the 2026 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit, with separate Saturday 4 July and Sunday 5 July passes visible on screen. The smartphone rests on Union Jack patterned fabric, reinforcing the British setting and the national identity of one of Formula 1's best-known races. The image is suitable for illustrating mobile ticketing, sporting-event access, electronic admission, ticket wallets, QR-code entry systems and the increasing shift from printed passes to app-based credentials.
The photograph also provides a clear visual concept for reporting on ticket fraud, unauthorised resale, fake listings, social-media scams and the risks faced by motorsport supporters buying expensive Grand Prix admission from unofficial sources. Silverstone's published 2026 ticket conditions state that tickets are not to be resold except through an official Silverstone resale platform, making verification of the seller and purchase channel particularly important. Buyers should be cautious of screenshots, duplicated digital passes, pressure to pay quickly, unusually cheap offers and claims that transferable mobile tickets can be supplied outside authorised channels.
The official event runs from Thursday 2 July to Sunday 5 July 2026, while Formula 1 lists the competitive race weekend from Friday 3 July to Sunday 5 July. Saturday includes sprint and qualifying activity, and the main British Grand Prix takes place on Sunday 5 July. This midsummer sporting image can support news, consumer protection, travel, technology and motorsport coverage, including stories about ticket touts, dynamic demand, sold-out events, digital identity, smartphone dependence and safe online purchasing. No outdoor sky or weather is visible because the composition is a tight indoor-style close-up focused on the phone screen and ticket information.

The image captures the premium side of a modern Grand Prix weekend, where racing, luxury branding, leisure spending, food stalls, drinks concessions and spectator entertainment sit alongside the on-track action. The white Moët & Chandon kiosk, branded Champagne Bar signage, smart seating, casual summer clothing and busy background crowd all suggest an expensive treat for Formula 1 fans enjoying a day at one of Britain's biggest sporting events. Silverstone is the home of the British Grand Prix and one of the most recognisable motorsport venues in the world, attracting large crowds, corporate guests, enthusiasts, families and international visitors. The photograph is useful for editorial coverage of F1 hospitality, premium event catering, race-day spending, champagne sponsorship, luxury drinks marketing, corporate entertainment, the leisure economy, sports tourism and the increasingly festival-like atmosphere around major motorsport events. Visible details include people seated around low white tables, gold-coloured champagne buckets, a branded temporary bar, nearby food stalls, picnic benches, dry grass underfoot and an overcast British summer sky. Moët & Chandon returned as Formula One's official champagne provider from 2025 as part of the wider LVMH partnership with Formula 1, giving the image a clear link to current motorsport sponsorship and the long tradition of champagne within racing culture. It also works as a lightly humorous stock image about posh fizz at the Grand Prix, the cost of attending major sporting events and the contrast between high-end hospitality and ordinary fans treating themselves during a big day out at Silverstone.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E8PTXK - Four costumed stilt walkers wave large black-and-white chequered flags while entertaining spectators at the British Formula One Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit in July. The performers wear coordinated red, black and checked racing-themed outfits, with two elevated entertainers standing on each side of a visitor posing beneath the flags. Grandstands, event structures, tyre displays, refreshment outlets and racegoers fill the background under a bright blue summer sky, creating a colourful festival atmosphere at one of Britain's largest sporting events.
The scene shows how the British Grand Prix has developed into more than a motor race. Alongside practice, qualifying and the main Formula One contest, the Silverstone weekend offers roaming performers, live music, fan zones, merchandise, food, hospitality and other activities designed to entertain visitors. The chequered flag is one of motor racing's most recognisable symbols, traditionally displayed to mark the end of a race, and its use by the stilt walkers provides an immediate visual connection with Formula One and motorsport culture.
Silverstone is widely known as the home of the British Grand Prix and hosted the opening round of the inaugural Formula One World Championship in 1950. The former wartime airfield became a permanent racing venue and remains central to British motor racing heritage. Large crowds travel from across Britain and overseas for the July event, with many spectators camping nearby and attending for several days.
This sunny documentary photograph is suitable for editorial themes involving Formula One supporters, British motorsport, event entertainment, summer festivals, crowd engagement, visitor experience, tourism, sporting culture and family-friendly activities. The dry grass and strong sunlight suggest warm midsummer conditions, while the flags, costumes and elevated performers capture the spectacle and celebratory energy surrounding a major international race weekend

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EE4M62 - Hilton Garden Inn Silverstone and its Formula One hospitality entrance beside Hamilton Straight during the British Grand Prix weekend. The photograph shows the modern trackside hotel, prominent Hilton Garden Inn branding and a large hospitality enclosure as racegoers walk through the Silverstone complex beneath an overcast summer sky. The hotel's position directly alongside the circuit places guests and corporate visitors close to the starting grid, pit lane activity and some of the most important action of the race weekend.
Hilton describes the property as being located on Hamilton Straight, with panoramic Silverstone views, track-view bedrooms, an on-site restaurant and a rooftop bar. During the Formula One British Grand Prix, the hotel also supports Starting Grid hospitality packages positioned opposite the pits. These premium experiences can include shared or private suites, viewing balconies, all-day dining and open-bar service, combining accommodation, food, business entertainment and close-up views of international motor racing.
The scene illustrates the commercial scale of modern Formula One hospitality. Major race weekends attract sponsors, businesses, invited guests and affluent spectators willing to pay for convenient accommodation and exclusive trackside access. Hotel rooms and hospitality packages at Silverstone can be in especially high demand, reflecting limited circuit-side capacity and the value attached to views over Hamilton Straight.
This editorial image suits themes involving Formula One tourism, corporate hospitality, premium sporting experiences, motorsport business, trackside hotels, event accommodation and the high cost of attending major international sport. The branded entrance, streams of spectators and imposing hotel exterior document how Silverstone has developed beyond a racing circuit into a broader leisure, conference and hospitality destination.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RCC5PW - This photograph shows large numbers of Formula One fans gathered in tightly packed queues at entrance gates to Silverstone Circuit, having walked in from surrounding car parking areas during the British Grand Prix weekend. The image captures the scale of attendance and the steady, patient movement of spectators as they wait to be processed through ticket and security checks.
The crowd is diverse in age and dress, with many fans carrying backpacks, drinks, and personal items for a full day at the circuit. Bright summer sunshine and clear blue skies reinforce the seasonal nature of the event and the festival-like atmosphere that surrounds the British Grand Prix, one of the UK's most popular annual sporting occasions.
Such scenes highlight the logistical challenge of managing tens of thousands of arrivals within short time windows, where crowd density, pedestrian flow, and safety must be carefully controlled. The image documents the behind-the-scenes reality of large-scale motorsport events, where arrival routes from car parks, queuing systems, and stewarding play a critical role in maintaining order and public safety.
Well suited for editorial use, this photograph illustrates crowd behaviour, event access planning, and the lived experience of attending Formula One at Silverstone, capturing both the anticipation and the practical realities faced by spectators before they reach the track.

He first drove in Formula One with Williams in the 1994 season succeeding the late Ayrton Senna. The following year he won his first Grand Prix in Portugal, and then for the 1996 season he moved to McLaren. After winning two races in the 1997 season, he finished 3rd in the World Drivers' Championship in the 1998 season.
He won five races during 1999 and 2000 before finishing 2nd in the Drivers' Championship to Michael Schumacher in 2001. Two more victories followed between 2002 and 2003 before he left McLaren at the end of 2004. He moved to Red Bull in 2005 and secured their first podium a year later. Coulthard retired from Formula One racing at the end of 2008.
After retiring from Formula One, Coulthard continued working with Red Bull as a consultant and joined the BBC as a commentator and pundit for their coverage of Formula One. He returned to active motorsports in 2010 joining Mücke Motorsport in DTM and retired at the end of 2012. Coulthard has also participated in the Race of Champions, finishing runner-up in the Drivers' Cup in 2008, and winning the competition in 2014 and 2018. Since 2016 he has worked as a commentator and analyst for Channel 4 after they took over the BBC's terrestrial television rights. In 2022, he joined the Nordic streaming service Viaplay. There he appears during Formula 1 race weekends as a reporter and expert commentator alongside Mika Häkkinen and Tom Kristensen.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RCC5W8 - This photograph shows crowds of spectators walking along Hamilton Straight at Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, with the Silverstone Megastore and the Hilton Silverstone hotel prominently visible. Taken on a bright summer day under clear blue skies, the image captures the scale and modern character of one of the world's most famous motorsport venues.
Hamilton Straight forms the main start and finish straight of Silverstone Circuit and is a focal point during major events such as Formula One, MotoGP, and international endurance racing. The contemporary architecture of the Hilton Silverstone hotel, designed to overlook the track, reflects the circuit's transformation from a historic post-war airfield into a global motorsport destination combining racing, hospitality, retail, and tourism.
The presence of large numbers of casually dressed spectators conveys the atmosphere of a major race weekend, with fans moving between grandstands, retail areas, and hospitality spaces. The wide concourse, grassy margins, and open setting emphasise the scale of the site and its ability to accommodate tens of thousands of visitors during peak events.
This image is well suited for editorial use illustrating British motorsport culture, Formula One venues, large-scale sporting events, and the commercial infrastructure that surrounds modern international racing circuits in the UK.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2KDPYAN - A printed circuit board (PCB
also printed wiring board or PWB) is a medium used in electrical and electronic engineering to connect electronic components to one another in a controlled manner. It takes the form of a laminated sandwich structure of conductive and insulating layers: each of the conductive layers is designed with an artwork pattern of traces, planes and other features (similar to wires on a flat surface) etched from one or more sheet layers of copper laminated onto and/or between sheet layers of a non-conductive substrate. Electrical components may be fixed to conductive pads on the outer layers in the shape designed to accept the component's terminals, generally by means of soldering, to both electrically connect and mechanically fasten them to it. Another manufacturing process adds vias: plated-through holes that allow interconnections between layers
The Austrian engineer Paul Eisler invented the printed circuit as part of a radio set while working in the UK around 1936. In 1941 a multi-layer printed circuit was used in German magnetic influence naval mines
Around 1943 the USA began to use the technology on a large scale to make proximity fuzes for use in World War II. Such fuzes required an electronic circuit that could withstand being fired from a gun, and could be produced in quantity
Motorola was an early leader in bringing the process into consumer electronics, announcing in August 1952 the adoption of plated circuits in home radios after six years of research and a $1M investment
Originally, every electronic component had wire leads, and a PCB had holes drilled for each wire of each component. The component leads were then inserted through the holes and soldered to the copper PCB traces. This method of assembly is called through-hole construction. In 1949, Moe Abramson and Stanislaus F. Danko of the United States Army Signal Corps developed the Auto-Sembly process in which component leads were inserted into a copper foil interconnection

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JFTMFW - Crash at the Silverstone British F1 Grand Prix 03/07/2022 at 1st corner
The race started at 15:00 local time on 3 July. Max Verstappen took the lead at the start from Carlos Sainz Jr., while Lewis Hamilton moved up to third. Zhou Guanyu and George Russell both experienced poor starts and were passed by Nicholas Latifi. Gasly attempted to pass between Zhou and Russell, but Russell moved to the left in an attempt to keep position. Subsequently, Gasly and Russell made contact and caused Russell to lose control and hit Zhou. The impact flipped Zhou's car and he skid across the track upside down. His car bounced over the tyre barrier, hit the protection fence and came to a rest between the fence and tyre barrier. As a result of the incident, Valtteri Bottas slowed slightly, which caused Alexander Albon to also slow. Sebastian Vettel attempted to brake, but was too close to Albon and hit him. Albon spun into the concrete pit wall, rebounded back on the track and was hit by Yuki Tsunoda and Esteban Ocon, both of whom received damage but were able to return to the pits. However, Albon was unable to continue. Russell, who had spun, stopped to help the marshalls with Zhou's flipped car. When he returned to his car, he failed to turn the engine on and was forced to retire.
Race control red-flagged the race due to both crashes. Zhou was extracted from his Alfa Romeo and stretchered to an ambulance where he was taken to the race medical centre. Albon was also taken to the race medical centre but was later transferred by helicopter to Coventry Hospital for observations. Both were later released

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy P8HWD6 - Bloodhound LSR, formerly Bloodhound SSC, is a British land vehicle designed to travel at supersonic speeds with the intention of setting a new world land speed record. The arrow-shaped car, under development since 2008, is powered by a jet engine and will be fitted with an additional rocket engine. The initial goal is to exceed the current speed record of 763 mph (1,228 km/h), with the vehicle believed to be able to achieve up to 1,000 miles per hour (1,609 km/h).
Driver Andy Green will attempt to break his own record, set in 1997. The previous business behind Project Bloodhound went into administration (bankruptcy) in late 2018. Entrepreneur Ian Warhurst bought the car to keep the project alive. A new company called Grafton LSR Ltd was formed to manage the project, which was renamed Bloodhound LSR and moved to SGS Berkeley Green University Technical College. Lack of funds and the COVID-19 pandemic stalled progress in 2020, and in 2021 the vehicle was offered for sale.
The venue for high speed testing and future world land speed record attempts is the Hakskeen Pan in the Mier area of the Northern Cape, South Africa. An area 12 miles (19 km) long and 3 miles (4.8 km) wide was identified as suitable, with the first runs in October 2019. Further runs in November 2019 achieved a top speed of 628 miles per hour (1,011 km/h), the eighth vehicle to attain a land speed of over 600 miles per hour (970 km/h).

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JHB6YM - Victoria line is a London Underground line that runs between Brixton in south London and Walthamstow Central in the north-east, via the West End. It is printed in light blue on the Tube map and is one of the only two lines on the network to run completely underground, the other being the Waterloo & City line.
The line was constructed in the 1960s and was the first entirely new Underground line in London for 50 years. It was designed to reduce congestion on other lines, particularly the Piccadilly line and the Charing Cross branch of the Northern line. The first section, from Walthamstow Central to Highbury & Islington, opened in September 1968 and an extension to Warren Street followed in December. The line was completed to Victoria station in March 1969 and was opened by Queen Elizabeth II who rode a train from Green Park to Victoria. The southern extension to Brixton opened in 1971, and Pimlico station was added in 1972.
The Victoria line is operated using automatic train operation, but all trains have drivers. The 2009 Tube Stock replaced the original 1967 Tube Stock trains. The line serves 16 stations and all but Pimlico provide interchanges with other Transport for London or National Rail services. The line, the most intensively used on the Underground, is used by over 200 million passengers each year, making it the sixth-busiest tube line
The 3.5-mile (5.6 km) extension from Victoria to Brixton with stations at Vauxhall and Stockwell was approved in March 1966. Preparatory work had started at Bessborough Gardens near Vauxhall Bridge Road in May 1967. The contract was awarded on 4 August 1967. A proposal to build Pimlico tube station received Government approval on 28 June 1968. In July, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh visited tunnel workings under Vauxhall Park.
The Brixton extension was bored using the older Greathead shield. Although slower, use of the tunnelling shield allowed easier digging through the gravel strata south of the Thames

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy MM99T9 - A transistor radio is a small portable radio receiver that uses transistor-based circuitry. Following their development in 1954, made possible by the invention of the transistor in 1947, they became the most popular electronic communication device in history, with billions manufactured during the 1960s and 1970s. Their pocket size sparked a change in popular music listening habits, allowing people to listen to music anywhere they went. Beginning in the 1980s, however, cheap AM transistor radios were superseded by devices with higher audio quality such as portable CD players, personal audio players, boomboxes, and (eventually) smartphones, some of which contain radios themselves

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F0XDA9 - Silverstone Circuit is a motor racing circuit in England next to the Northamptonshire villages of Silverstone and Whittlebury. The circuit straddles the Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire border, with the current main circuit entry on the Buckinghamshire side. The Northamptonshire towns of Towcester (5 miles) and Brackley (7 miles) and Buckinghamshire town of Buckingham (6 miles) are close by, and the nearest large towns are Northampton and Milton Keynes.
Silverstone is the current home of the British Grand Prix, which it first hosted in 1948. The 1950 British Grand Prix at Silverstone was the first race in the newly created World Championship of Drivers.[5] The race rotated between Silverstone, Aintree and Brands Hatch from 1955 to 1986, but relocated permanently to Silverstone in 1987.

It is a MCR25.0B assembly.
The thinner copper tracks are 17 microns wide with the gaps and wider tracks 25 microns wide. This has been taken with a 20mm Olympus macro lens with Canon to Olympus adapter.
Alumina is the most mature of the engineering ceramics, offering excellent electrical insulation properties together with high hardness and good wear resistance but relatively low strength and fracture toughness.
Aluminas are generally white but are sometimes pink (88% alumina) or brown (96% Alumina). The colour is derived from either the sintering additives or impurities in the raw materials.
Dynamic-Ceramic produces a range of alumina from 96% - 99.9% purity. Alumina has a high melting point, high hardness and high mechanical strength, although mechanical strength is reduced at temperatures above 1000\u00b0C. Due to the relatively large coefficient of thermal expansion, thermal shock resistance is reduced.
Alumina is an electrically insulating material, with a high electrical resistivity, increasing with purity. Good chemical stability of alumina, leads to a high corrosion resistance. It is insoluble in water and only slightly soluble in strong acid and
alkaline solutions. Thus making it ideal for use in rugged component environments such as on a battlefield, in space or the stratosphere.
On the board the underside tracks can just be seen. This was a product of ICI in Runcorn and the metals etc were layed down using a phot-resist process. Quality control was by microscope.

Here, a panorama from a section of the WilliamsF1 Grand Prix collection and facility near Wantage, Oxon (Oxfordshire) England UK.
The team was founded and run by Sir Frank Williams and Patrick Head in 1977. Cars here cover the 1984 to 1991 seasons, mainly Honda/Judd era.
At the 1997 British Grand Prix, Canadian Jacques Villeneuve won the team's 100th race, making Williams one of only three teams in Formula One, alongside Ferrari and fellow British team McLaren achieve this.
I saw the team at the British Grand Prix in 1995 (Nigel Mansell / Keke Rosberg ) FW10B &
1997 (Nigel Mansell / Riccardo Patrese / Nelson Piquet) FW11B at Silverstone. The \u2018FW\u2019 represents the initials of team owner Frank Williams. At the 1995 GP Keke Rosberg did the first 160mph lap around the 'old' (and better!) Silverstone during qualifying. I must dig out some shots from those days. Carbon fibre composite technology had just started to be incorporated into the cars that year, with Williams finishing third in the constructors' championship. At Silverstone I watched Alain Prost in the McLaren-TAG take the race.
1987 brought the Williams Honda partnership its first and currently only drivers championship title from Nelson Piquet He scooped 76 points and won three races, while Mansell, was 15 points behind him in second place with six victories during the season. The team finished as constructors\u2019 champions for the second year running, scoring 137 points, 61 points ahead of their nearest rivals McLaren. Unfortunately Honda short sightedly ended their partnership with Williams at the end of the 1987 in favour of McLaren and Lotus. Fortunately, this year it was Mansell in the Williams I saw take the race.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy CEYA67 - Blue Plymouth American Classic PUD 103F car (Automobile)
Plymouth was a marque of automobiles based in the United States, produced by the Chrysler Corporation and its successor DaimlerChrysler. Production was discontinued on June 29, 2001 in the United States.
For much of its life, Plymouth was one of the top-selling American automobile brands
it together with Chevrolet and Ford were commonly referred to as the low-priced three marques in the American market. Plymouth almost surpassed Ford in 1940 and 1941 as the second most popular make of automobiles in the U.S. Through 1956, Plymouth vehicles were known for their durability, affordability, and engineering.
In 1957, Virgil Exner's new Forward Look design theme, advertised by Plymouth with the tagline Suddenly, it's 1960, produced cars with much more advanced styling than Chevrolet or Ford. 1957 total production soared to 726,009, about 200,000 more than 1956, and the largest output yet for Plymouth. However, the 1957“1958 Forward Look models suffered from poor materials, spotty build quality and inadequate corrosion protection
they were rust-prone and greatly damaged Chrysler's reputation.
In 1954 Chrysler started its decade long unsuccessful attempt to develop and market a viable car powered by turbine engine when it installed an experimental turbine they had developed specifically for vehicles in a Plymouth.

Electronics rarely does.
This is an old school PCB (Printed Circuit Board) designed perhaps early 1980's and using surface mounted (soldered it looked like) components. It is from a Worcester Bosch central heating boiler. This type of board has largely been superseded by total integrated circuit designs. This the sight of actual components like this is now rare in modern electronics.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2KDPYAW - A printed circuit board (PCB
also printed wiring board or PWB) is a medium used in electrical and electronic engineering to connect electronic components to one another in a controlled manner.

The scene records a specific piece of everyday place-based detail, the sort of subject that often says more about local identity, work, leisure, transport or consumption than a polished landmark view would. Its value is in the recognisable setting, readable clues and documentary directness, making it useful for editorial coverage of changing streets, public services, heritage, retail habits and ordinary life in Britain and beyond. The location detail, Silverstone, strengthens searches for regional features, travel pages, local-history pieces and news use where a named place matters. Relevant editorial themes include railway station, passenger rail, train travel, public transport, Formula One, British Grand Prix, Silverstone and motorsport, with each theme rooted in the visible subject, place or activity. The scene has practical value for features needing authentic British or international street-level evidence, especially where policy, culture, business, tourism or social change is easier to explain through one clear example.
