Crisis estimates there are roughly 12,300 rough sleepers in the UK and also 12,000 people sleeping in sheds, bins, cars, tents and night busses. The figure is derived from research by Heriot-Watt University. Rough sleeping has risen by 98% since 2010, sleeping in tents and the like rose 103%. In England rough sleeping rose by 120%, in Wales it rose by 75% and in Scotland it fell by 5%. Scotland has more inclusive homelessness laws, since 2012 guaranteeing a right to settled accommodation for all homeless people, including young single men, while England only houses those in priority need, like families with dependent children. British Sea Power's Yan and Hamilton Wilkinson are brothers and were school friends with Matthew Wood in Kendal, Cumbria England. They are based in Brighton where BSP amassed a large following their own club night called 'Club Sea Power'. Its numerous support acts and occasional fashion show went down well in Brighton.
'The Decline of British Sea Power', the band's first album, was released in June 2003 to critical acclaim. Their tours often include unusual venues such as the Scillonian Club on the Isles of Scilly, Grasmere Village Hall, the St. John Boste Social Club in Kendal and Carnglaze Caverns in Cornwall. They have been compared with The Cure and Joy Division.
This track is taken from 'Open Season', the second album. Well worth a listen.

Grappenhall is a village in Warrington, Cheshire, England. It is situated along the Bridgewater Canal, and forms one of the principal settlements of Grappenhall and Thelwall civil parish. According to the 2001 UK census, the population of the entire civil parish was 9,377.
Grappenhall is mentioned in the Domesday Book under the name Gropenhale, ('the Groping Place') which states it to be worth five shillings.
St Wilfrid's Church has a carving of a cat on the west face of the tower. This is believed to be Lewis Carroll's inspiration for the grinning Cheshire Cat in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The church itself was first constructed in 1120, though was rebuilt 400 years later. The church was also, at a time, in the possession of the Boidelle (Boydell) family.
Along with the church, the centre of the village contains two pubs (The Parr Arms and The Ram's Head), Grappenhall Hall residential School and St. Wilfrids Primary School. Bradshaw Community Primary School is also found north of the centre of the village.
Parts of the Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes were filmed in the Victorian cobbled centre of Grappenhall. It is also the birthplace of actor Tim Curry. Here Church lane is pictured from the west.

Several people here are on the run from court, wives and husbands and don't want their images recorded. That's ok with me, if they believe or not that I will respect their wishes.

She is paid from 10am to 10pm, but often adds another 3-4 hours to that each day.
Commanding respect, she knits the shoestring winter night shelter together, finding silver linings in grey clouds. Without her the shelter would not exist.
She hopes next year the local borough council will fund a permanent night shelter.
Even if they do, she will most likely put as much effort.
