The upper pair are colourful destination posters promoting rail travel to the Cornish resorts of Penzance and Newquay. The Penzance design shows the harbour, rooftops and waterfront beneath a blue sky, while the Newquay image presents sweeping beaches, cliffs, sea and a swimmer wearing a red bathing cap. Both use bold place names and idealised holiday imagery to encourage passengers to travel by train.
The lower frames contain more functional railway notices. One advertises weekday day-excursion bookings from Birkenhead and Liverpool, using a timetable-style layout of destinations, fares and journey information. The other promotes the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, held over several July days, with restrained typography and the limited colour palette typical of mid-twentieth-century publicity. Together, the four pieces show how the railway marketed national holiday destinations and regional leisure events.
The posters date from the post-war period, including examples associated with 1952 and 1962, when British Railways used commissioned illustration, strong lettering and carefully composed scenery to sell rail travel. Such material is now collected as railwayana and valued for its graphic design, social history and nostalgic view of British tourism.
The display is at Llangollen Railway, a volunteer-run standard-gauge heritage line operating through the Dee Valley between Llangollen and Corwen over part of the former Ruabon to Barmouth route. The preserved station gives the advertisements an appropriate historic context, linking the visual culture of the national network with present-day steam and diesel operations. The framed arrangement records changing styles of transport promotion, seaside leisure, excursion travel and cultural tourism in Britain during the 1950s and 1960s.

History of the famous figure:
On 24th July 1952, the statue of Robin Hood was unveiled by the Duchess of Portland on the Robin Hood Lawn, beneath Nottingham Castle, in the remains of the moat on Castle Road.
It was a warm sunny day when 500 schoolchildren sat attentively on the grass in the special VIP enclosure to watch the ceremony of the statue and its complementary plaques and sculptures being revealed to the public, accompanied by a fanfare from the band of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment.
Gifted to the city by local businessman, Philip E F Clay, the impressive figure was intended to provide something tangible for visitors to see relating to Robin Hood, Nottingham's world-famous folk hero. Mr Clay was a successful director of well-known city firms Elastic Yarns Ltd and Fine Wires Ltd and in 1949, at a cost of £5,000, he commissioned the respected Royal Academy sculptor, James Woodford, to design and make the Robin Hood statue, plaques and statuary.
On completion, they were to be presented to the city to commemorate the visit of Princess Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh on 28th June 1949 during the city's quincentenary celebrations. Mr Clay had originally wished to remain anonymous.

She is today queen regnant of 16 sovereign states, 12 of which were British colonies or Dominions at the start of her reign. Queen Victoria, Elizabeth's great-great-grandmother, is the only other monarch in the histories of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and a few other Commonwealth realms to have celebrated a Diamond Jubilee, which she did in 1897.
Many parks and spaces were renamed to celebrate this event, across the UK and the Commonwealth.
