The Met and the Mayor of London have joined together with Safer Sounds, part of the Safer Business Network, and licensed venues across the capital to help keep people safe while enjoying a night out.
The safety initiative ˜Ask for Angela' is being rolled out to bars, clubs and other licensed businesses across London and other cities. People who feel unsafe, vulnerable or threatened can discreetly seek help by approaching venue staff and asking them for ˜Angela'. This code-phrase will indicate to staff that they require help with their situation and a trained member of staff will then look to support and assist them. This might be through reuniting them with a friend, seeing them to a taxi, or by calling venue security and/or the police.
Venues that support ˜Ask for Angela' have been given Welfare And Vulnerability Engagement (WAVE) training. Delivered by the Met's licensing officers and Safer Sounds, it gives staff the ability to help customers who may be in a situation that makes them vulnerable or unsafe.
˜Ask for Angela' was originally developed by Lincolnshire County Council and adopted by the Met in 2016 as a localised initiative by its police licensing officers. The introduction of WAVE training in 2017 underpinned the delivery of Ask for Angela and more venues began to take on the initiative.
Organisations can receive WAVE training through the Safer Sounds Partnership or via their local licensing team. The training explores what vulnerability is, how to identify it and appropriate interventions. A range of online assets and webinars are available.

A motion of no confidence in the RCN Council was called shortly afterwards and passed in September 2018 with 78% of votes, but on a turnout when only 3.7% of the membership voted. As well as the Chief Executive and General Secretary, the Director of Member Relations had previously resigned. Twelve of the 17 council members resigned, 10 of them standing for re-election in the subsequent election.

The architect, William Henry Crossland, was the winner of a competition held in 1864 to design a new Town Hall. It had a 240-foot (73 m) clock tower topped by a wooden spire with a gilded statue of Saint George and the Dragon, both of which were destroyed by fire on 10 April 1883, leaving the building without a spire for four years.
A new 190-foot (58 m) stone clock tower and spire in the style of Manchester Town Hall was designed by Alfred Waterhouse, and erected in 1887.
Architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner described the building as possessing a rare picturesque beauty. Its stained-glass windows are credited as the finest modern examples of their kind.
The building came to the attention of Adolf Hitler, who was said to have admired it so much that he wished to ship the building, brick-by-brick, to Nazi Germany had the United Kingdom been defeated in the Second World War
The Town Hall was one of several built in the textile towns of North West England following the Municipal Corporations Act 1835, but is one of only two in Greater Manchester built in the Gothic style. First proposed by Thomas Homer in 1802 as a link from the Paddington arm of the then Grand Junction Canal (opened in 1801) with the River Thames at Limehouse, the Regent's Canal was built during the early 19th century after an Act of Parliament was passed in 1812. in 1811 he had produced a masterplan for George IV, then Prince Regent, to redevelop a large area of central north London “ as a result, the Regent's Canal was included in the scheme, running for part of its distance along the northern edge of Regent's Park.
As with many Nash projects, the detailed design was passed to one of his assistants, in this case James Morgan, who was appointed chief engineer of the canal company. Work began on 14 October 1812. The first section from Paddington to Camden Town opened in 1816 and included a 251-metre (274 yd) long tunnel under Maida Hill east of an area now known as 'Little Venice', and a much shorter tunnel, just 48 metres (52 yd) long, under Lisson Grove. The Camden to Limehouse section, including the 886-metre (969 yd) long Islington Tunnel and the Regent's Canal Dock (used to transfer cargo from seafaring vessels to canal barges “ today known as Limehouse Basin), opened four years later on 1 August 1820. The first signalmen, originally called Railway Policemen (leading to the nickname of 'Bobby'), were employed in the early 19th century and used flags to communicate with each other and train drivers, and hourglasses for the purpose of Time Interval Working between stations.
Additional duties
It was a signalman's duty to check each train that passed their signal box, looking for the red tail lamp exhibited on the trailing vehicle, the sighting of which confirmed that the train was still complete, and thus the section was clear.
Each train movement was logged, by hand, in a Train Register Book, and it was normal practice to provide a special desk to support this sizeable book. As well as train movements, every communication between signalmen and adjacent signal boxes via bell codes (when accepting trains or dealing with a token) was logged.
Technological advances including mechanical fixed signals in the 1840s, the electric telegraph and block working in the 1850s, and proper mechanical interlocking from 1856, allowed safer, more expeditious train working, and more complicated track layouts to be controlled single-handedly. The advent of such technological advances gradually led to the provision of an enclosed workspace known as a signal box, signal cabin or interlocking tower.
The principles of British-style railway signalling have changed little since the Victorian era and early 20th century. Modern technology has generally reduced the labour required per train movement. In many cases, a switch, button or computer command is used to alter the lie of points and control signals. Although many classic mechanical signal boxes remain in use, these are gradually being replaced by modern power signalling systems on most railways. Exeter West signal box is not at Exeter - it is at Crewe.
Why is this? Because a group of dedicated individuals saved the signalbox from demolition when the signalling in the Exeter area was renewed in 1985, and carefully dismantled it so it could be re-erected as a working museum demonstrating how the larger signal boxes of the past were.
This box is now viewable at Crewe as part of Crewe Heritage Centre display, and signalmen are present most weekends to describe and demonstrate signalling days of the past and answer questions from visitors.

Its got to be the mascot up at Cheshire's top hand car wash Garnett. They are a really friendly team down there and do a cracking job. I can recommend them.
Look out for the mascot which will be around town from now and into the summer to promote the business that covers cars, valets, drives and conservatories from their base at Old Warrington road, Northwich and out at Tatton adjacent to the Little Chef on the A556. They also clean Fascias, Caravans and even done the odd Tractor believe it or not. Handy as they are insured with NFU (originally the farmers mutual).
Back in December, the local council, Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC), took offence at the companies distinctive green and yellow A-Boards. I am unsure if it was the colour or size that was the nature of the complaint. If it was that they were prominent, isn't that the point? I have still noticed plenty of A-Boards around town. To be consistant shouldn't they all be banned?
Shirley Wingfield, a spokesman for CWAC, was reported in the Northwich Guardian as saying \u201cWe do not regard what Mr Garnett was advertising on as A-boards, we regard it as fly posting. \u201cWe act when incidents are reported to us and people are asked not to do it again. If they persist they are issued with a fixed penalty notice.\u201d
Personally I thought I thought I had a good idea what a fly posting was, but maybe not!

He has had his face fungus now for well over 20 years. On one occasion when he had it shaved off at the barbers he was so unrecognisable that his next door neighbour thought he was a burgler, who had climbed into the back garden! He was simply unrecognisable!
Bob does alsorts around the centre which has now grown into quite a multi-faceted complex. There is even a working Brewery making traditionally crafted cask ales on the site. Yep I do have a nose for that kind of stuff!
In the course of history, men with facial hair have been ascribed various attributes such as wisdom and knowledge, sexual virility, masculinity, or high social status
and, conversely, filthiness, crudeness, or an eccentric disposition. In many cultures, beards are associated with nature and outdoorsmen. I remember in my mis-spent youth enjoying the band ZZ Top, strangely the only member of the band without a beard is in fact called Frank Beard (credited as Rube Beard on early LP's). However it must be said that he did in fact sport some facial hair, generally only a trimmed mustache.
In 1984, the Gillette Company (one of the worlds largest razor manufacturers) reportedly offered Gibbons and Hill (the bearded members of ZZ Top) $1 million each to shave their beards for a television commercial. They allegedly declined, saying 'We're too ugly without 'em'. Apparently the name came from blues guitar master B. B. King. The band had planned to call themselves ZZ. King, but felt it was too similar. Since B.B. King was at the 'top', they settled on ZZ Top.

Field engineers like Alan install and maintain the physical network wiring into end users' premises regardless of which telecoms provider is actually retailing the service to the end-user. Warrington District Camera Club are looking for similar models and subjects for studio nights like this.
They are looking for interesting studio subjects for a number of future Monday night photo club nights in Grappenhall, Warrington Cheshire.
Sessions start at 7.30pm until about 9.30pm and expenses etc will be paid, as well of course subjects receiving images and prints from the session. In some cases this can be a useful additional to a portfolio etc for securing other modelling work.
They do like unusual subjects and if you are part of another group as part of an interest or hobby, please get in touch.

Gatso is the brand that Gatsometer BV use on their traffic enforcement cameras, most notably their speed cameras and red light cameras. The most commonly encountered Gatso speed cameras emit radar beams to measure the speed of the vehicle. If it is travelling above the preset trigger speed, one or two photographs are taken (depending on the device's setting, which generally depends on the requirements of the local jurisdiction).
These use a powerful flash, to show the rear of the vehicle, its registration plate, and calibration lines on the road (in many jurisdictions). Completed in 1957, the fully steerable 76-metre radio telescope was conceived by physicist and radio astronomer Sir Bernard Lovell and engineered with Sir Charles Husband. Its vast parabolic dish collects faint radio waves from space, allowing astronomers to study pulsars, galaxies, stars and other cosmic phenomena. It became a recognised symbol of British science, engineering and postwar technological ambition. The telescope also played an important role in the early Space Race, including tracking Sputnik and monitoring pioneering space missions.
Jodrell Bank remains a working research observatory operated by the University of Manchester and is associated with the e-MERLIN network of radio telescopes.
