Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EX1RCC - Members of Rock Choir perform outdoors beneath The Kelpies at Helix Park in Falkirk, Scotland, on Saturday 27 June 2026. A blonde female choir leader stands in the foreground with one arm raised, conducting the large mixed group of singers arranged in rows across the paved plaza. The performers wear matching black T-shirts carrying Rock Choir's yellow star emblem, creating a strong visual contrast against the pale paving, green landscape and dramatic grey sky.
Behind the choir rise the two monumental steel horse heads known as The Kelpies. Designed by Scottish sculptor Andy Scott, the 30-metre-high structures were completed in 2014 and celebrate Scotland's horse-powered industrial and agricultural heritage, particularly the heavy working horses associated with canals, haulage and industry. The sculptures stand beside the Forth and Clyde Canal within The Helix, a large public park linking communities between Falkirk and Grangemouth.
The performance brings together community singing, public art and an internationally recognised Scottish landmark. Rock Choir is known for large, accessible contemporary choirs whose members perform popular songs without the need for formal auditions or musical notation. The image captures the energy and inclusiveness of group singing, with participants of different ages taking part in a public outdoor performance.
The broad plaza provides space for the singers, conductor and portable music equipment, while visitors and surrounding parkland remain visible around the group. Heavy cloud overhead adds drama to the scene and emphasises the scale of the metal sculptures. The photograph is relevant to editorial themes including community arts, amateur singing, live music, cultural participation, public performance, Scottish tourism, landmark architecture and events at The Kelpies

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EGWM98 - Busy indoor bar area at Grappenhall Beer Festival, held at The Bellhouse, home of Grappenhall Youth and Community Association in Grappenhall, Warrington, Cheshire. The image shows a crowded community beer festival interior with drinkers gathered around a temporary bar, casks and handpulls lined up on the right, beer labels visible above the pumps, people holding pint glasses, a beer programme on a table and the warm social atmosphere of a village real ale event. The festival is useful for editorial coverage of British beer culture, real ale, cask ale, local breweries, community fundraising, village events, hospitality, weekend leisure, social drinking, volunteers, beer tasting and the continuing appeal of traditional beer festivals in North West England. The Bellhouse describes itself as a charity-run community hub in the heart of Grappenhall, offering events, room hire, clubs and social spaces, and its events page lists Grappenhall Beer Festival as an annual highlight featuring local and guest ales, food and live entertainment. Ticketing information for 2026 described Grappenhall Beer Festival as Real Ale, Ciders and Live Music , presented by Grappenhall Youth & Community Association, while local coverage said the 2026 event would take place on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 May at Grappenhall Community Centre. The photograph captures the practical working side of the festival, with a busy queue at the bar, beer pumps, casks, volunteers and customers choosing drinks rather than a staged publicity view. Visible details such as the wooden floor, festival signage, beer tokens or programme, pint glasses, casual clothing and crowded bar line make it a strong documentary image for stories about community venues, local fundraising, beer festivals, the real ale movement, pub culture outside pubs, village social life and the wider role of volunteer-run events in keeping community facilities active. The indoor setting suggests a mild spring evening or weekend session

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2T9H2CN - This commercially useful editorial image shows Domestic Violence spelled out in Scrabble letters, DV in the home. The row metadata places the subject at Great Britain, UK. The spreadsheet date indicates 04 November 2023, so the picture can also work as a time-specific archive record. Plainly, the image is useful because it shows Scrabble, socialhousing, domestic, violent, violence, Domestic Violence, social, housing, with search-relevant terms including Scrabble, socialhousing, domestic, violent, violence, Domestic Violence, social, housing, words, spelled, UK, out, in, word. The arranged lettering gives the image a clear concept-photo role, turning a difficult policy or finance phrase into something immediately legible for readers. The named location gives the photograph documentary value because it anchors the subject in a real place, helping editors illustrate how national issues appear in ordinary streets, shops, homes, stations, markets and public spaces. As a constructed concept image, it is useful for explainers, reports, blogs, presentations and social-media posts where abstract subjects need a clear visual hook, especially in policy, finance, housing, taxation, planning, workflow or public administration stories. The image can work as a lead picture, a supporting cutaway, a contextual inset or a visual metaphor for wider stories about place, services, consumer behaviour, heritage, transport, culture and public life. Historically and socially, this kind of image can help connect past and present: older streets, civic institutions, transport systems, shops, signs, political messages or public services are not frozen museum pieces, but part of how people understand modern life, local identity and economic change. For SEO and stock-photo discovery, the description deliberately supports searches around the named location, documentary photography, editorial image.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RTJRXY - Dame Millicent Garrett Fawcett GBE (née Garrett
11 June 1847 5 August 1929) was an English politician, writer and activist. She campaigned for women's suffrage by legal change and in 18971919 led Britain's largest women's rights association, the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies (NUWSS),[1] explaining, I cannot say I became a suffragist. I always was one, from the time I was old enough to think at all about the principles of Representative Government. She tried to broaden women's chances of higher education, as a governor of Bedford College, London (now Royal Holloway) and co-founding Newnham College, Cambridge in 1875. In 2018, a century after the Representation of the People Act, she was the first woman honoured by a statue in Parliament Square in 2018 by Gillian Wearing. Following a campaign and petition by the activist Caroline Criado Perez, the statue's creation was endorsed by both the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Theresa May, and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. The statue, Parliament Square's first monument to a woman and also its first sculpture by a woman, was funded through the government's Centenary Fund, which marks 100 years since some women won the right to vote. The memorial was unveiled on 24 April 2018
Fawcett was born on 11 June 1847 in Aldeburgh, to Newson Garrett (18121893), a businessman from nearby Leiston, and his London wife Louisa (née Dunnell, 18131903). She was the eighth of their ten children

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RWMENY - The Windmill Theatre in Great Windmill Street, London, was a variety and revue theatre best known for its nude tableaux vivants, which began in 1932 and lasted until its reversion to a cinema in 1964. Many prominent British comedians of the post-war years started their careers at the theatre.
Amrit Walia, the co-founder, said: In the 1930's Laura Henderson famously broke conventions and challenged norms to create the famous institution known as the Windmill Theatre
A breakthrough came when Van Damm began to incorporate glamorous nude females on stage, inspired by the Folies Bergère and Moulin Rouge in Paris. This coup was made possible by convincing Lord Cromer, then Lord Chamberlain, in his position as the censor for all theatrical performances in London, that the display of nudity in theatres was not obscene: since the authorities could not credibly hold nude statues to be morally objectionable, the theatre presented its nudes the legendary Windmill Girls in motionless poses as living statues or tableaux vivants. The ruling: 'If you move, it's rude.'
The cinema's lease was bought in February 1974 by nightclub and erotica entrepreneur Paul Raymond. Raymond returned it to a venue for nude shows à la Revuedeville but without the comic element. The first production at the now renamed Windmill Theatre was a play called Let's Get Laid, which opened on 2 September 1974. and starred Fiona Richmond and John Inman. A nude dance show called Rip-Off was the next production at the theatre
this show commenced on 10 May 1976. Paul Raymond re-introduced burlesque when he renamed the Windmill La Vie en Rose Show Bar and opened the venue as a supper club with a laser disco on 16 November 1982.
In May 2021, it was announced that the Windmill would reopen as a 350-seat restaurant and bar, with a cabaret

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RC95RJ - Tea One The Baum / Yorkshire Street
Combining elements of classical painting with inspirations from the world of graffiti Tea One is influenced by the post industrial landscape of Northern Britain. Particularly he draws from those remnants left over from the areas once abundant past. Painting on the alley known as the Baum he has weaved seven stories together from seven different women. Calling the piece the Seven Sisters' he is of course also referencing the famous apartment blocks through placing real life stories into that context.
His stories are those which many of us would have experienced. Each of the women in the mural have their own tale to tell but they are tales that all of us could associate with. From left to right the first woman holds something up to a light. It's unknown what it is but it could be an opportunity or it could be a burden. She doesn't know it yet but her life might be about to change either way. Next to her a woman sits in a boat rowing with her back to her destination. She isn't sure what lies ahead yet she still travels into the unknown, she is on her own personal odyssey.
The third woman is wearing a mask. She is struggling with her own identity. Perhaps living a charade or just not sure what journey she is on or whether it is indeed the right one. The silhouetted figure next to her represents travel. Either leaving or arriving she could be about to go on a journey or may be coming home after a voyage. The fifth woman represents rebirth, pregnant she is about to bring new life into the world. Next to her meanwhile a tear falls down the face of the sixth woman. She is experiencing her own private tragedy. Though we don't know what it is we will have all had similar emotions from time to time.
The mural from Teaone' is called the Seven Sisters
The final woman as part of this mural is deeply personal to the artist. Showing a woman undergoing treatment for breast cancer. He calls this overcoming the monster

As well as having jurisdiction across the national rail network, the BTP is also responsible for policing:
Croydon Tramlink
Docklands Light Railway
London Cable Car
Glasgow Subway
London Underground
Tyne and Wear Metro (between Fellgate and South Hylton)
West Midlands Metro
This amounts to around 10,000 miles (16,000 km) of track and more than 3,000 railway stations and depots. There are more than one billion passenger journeys annually on the main lines alone.
In addition, BTP, in conjunction with the French National Police (under the Border Police unit) Police aux Frontières police the international services operated by Eurostar.
BTP is not responsible for policing the majority of the Tyne and Wear Metro (which is instead policed by Northumbria Police's Metro Unit) or the entirety of the Manchester Metrolink (policed by Greater Manchester Police). BTP also does not police heritage railways.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2KE1135 - Estradiol (E2) is a medication and naturally occurring steroid hormone. It is an estrogen and is used mainly in menopausal hormone therapy and to treat low sex hormone levels in women. It is also used in hormonal birth control for women, in hormone therapy for transgender women, and in the treatment of hormone-sensitive cancers like prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women, among other uses. Estradiol can be taken by mouth, held and dissolved under the tongue, as a gel or patch that is applied to the skin, in through the vagina, by injection into muscle or fat, or through the use of an implant that is placed into fat, among other routes.
Side effects of estradiol in women include breast tenderness, breast enlargement, headache, fluid retention, and nausea among others. Men and children who are exposed to estradiol may develop symptoms of feminization, such as breast development and a feminine pattern of fat distribution, and men may also experience low testosterone levels and infertility. Estradiol may increase the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer in women with intact uteruses if it is not taken together with a progestogen such as progesterone. The combination of estradiol with a progestin, though not with oral progesterone, may increase the risk of breast cancer. Estradiol should not be used in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding or who have breast cancer, among other contraindications
Estradiol is marketed under a large number of brand names throughout the world. Examples of major brand names in which estradiol has been marketed in include Climara, Climen, Dermestril, Divigel, Estrace, Natifa, Estraderm, Estraderm TTS, Estradot, Estreva, Estrimax, Estring, Estrofem, EstroGel, Evorel, Fem7 (or FemSeven), Imvexxy, Menorest, Oesclim, OestroGel, Sandrena, Systen, and Vagifem

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JPB8W1 - As one of the few explicitly gender-separated spaces, the toilet has become a prominent site of conflict and a focal point for gender-critical' feminism. In this article we draw upon an AHRC-funded project, Around the Toilet, to reflect upon and critique trans-exclusionary and trans-hostile narratives of toilet spaces. Such narratives include ciscentric, heteronormative and gender essentialist positions within toilet research and activism which, for example, equate certain actions and bodily functions (such as menstruation) to a particular gender, decry the need for all-gender toilets, and cast suspicion upon the intentions of trans women in public toilet spaces. These include explicitly transmisogynist discourses perpetuated largely by those calling themselves gender-critical' feminists, but also extend to national media, right-wing populist discourses and beyond. We use Around the Toilet data to argue that access to safe and comfortable toilets plays a fundamental role in making trans lives possible. Furthermore, we contend that whether naive, ignorant or explicitly transphobic trans-exclusionary positions do little to improve toilet access for the majority, instead putting trans people, and others with visible markers of gender difference, at a greater risk of violence, and participating in the dangerous homogenisation of womanhood. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M07A98 - Remembering the 7 million women who contributed to the war effort by working in hundreds of vital jobs
This huge, bronze monument memorialises the women of World War II. It was unveiled in 2005 and the gold lettering on it is said to mimic the font of wartime ration books.
Around the outside, you can see 17 different sculpted uniforms and helmets. These uniforms represent hundreds of vital jobs undertaken by over 7 million women during the Second World War. However, when the war ended and the men returned to their jobs, women were forced to quietly hang up their uniforms and resign
they were expected to return to their lives before the war, often in more domestic roles.
Women's contribution to both the First and Second World Wars have often been historically overlooked. Unlike men, most women were not on the front line, and instead worked on the land, they were called up to be mechanics, engineers, munitions workers and air raid wardens. Women drove buses and fire-engines.
However, there were over 640,000 women in the armed forces during World War II including the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS). Lilian Bader joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) and trained to be an Instrument Repairer
in fact, she was one of the first women to qualify in that post. She became a Leading Aircraftwoman at RAF Shawbury and was then promoted to Acting Corporal.
Women like Georgina Masson, pictured below, joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) which was the women's branch of the British army. Georgina, who was born in Oxford, travelled to Trinidad where she worked as a stenographer for Ford. However, she returned to Britain in 1943 to assist the war effort, and became the first black woman Officer in the ATS. Georgina can be seen holding a copy of Picture Post magazine which features her on the cover, dressed in her ATS uniform.

born 17 October 1979), nicknamed Iceman, is a Finnish racing driver currently driving in Formula One for Alfa Romeo Racing. He won the 2007 Formula One World Championship in his first season at Scuderia Ferrari. After nine seasons racing in Formula One he left the sport to compete in the World Rally Championship in 2010 and 2011, returning to Formula One from 2012. In addition to this title, Räikkönen also finished second overall in 2003 and 2005, and third in 2008, 2012 and 2018. Räikkönen has won 21 Grands Prix, making him the most successful Finnish driver in terms of Formula One race wins. He is the only driver to take a race win in the V10, V8 and the hybrid V6 engine eras.
Räikkönen entered Formula One as a regular driver for Sauber-Petronas in 2001, having competed in only 23 car races previously. He joined McLaren Mercedes in 2002, and became a title contender by finishing runner-up in the championship to Michael Schumacher in 2003, and Fernando Alonso in 2005. Räikkönen's 2002, 2004 and 2006 seasons were plagued by severe unreliability from his McLaren cars, prompting a move to Ferrari in 2007. This change saw him crowned Formula One World Drivers' Champion that season, pipping both McLaren driversLewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonsoto the title by just one point. In 2008 he equalled the record for the greatest number of fastest laps in a season for the second time.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RPGEK3 - Emmeline Pankhurst (née Goulden
15 July 1858 14 June 1928) was a British political activist who organised the UK suffragette movement and helped women win the right to vote. In 1999, Time named her as one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century, stating that she shaped an idea of objects for our time and shook society into a new pattern from which there could be no going back. She was widely criticised for her militant tactics, and historians disagree about their effectiveness, but her work is recognised as a crucial element in achieving women's suffrage in the United Kingdom.
Born in the Moss Side district of Manchester to politically active parents, Pankhurst was introduced at the age of 14 to the women's suffrage movement. She founded and became involved with the Women's Franchise League, which advocated suffrage for both married and unmarried women. When that organisation broke apart, she tried to join the left-leaning Independent Labour Party through her friendship with socialist Keir Hardie but was initially refused membership by the local branch on account of her sex. While working as a Poor Law Guardian, she was shocked at the harsh conditions she encountered in Manchester's workhouses.
In 1903, Pankhurst founded the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), an all-women suffrage advocacy organisation dedicated to deeds, not words. The group identified as independent from and often in opposition to political parties. It became known for physical confrontations: its members smashed windows and assaulted police officers. Pankhurst, her daughters, and other WSPU activists received repeated prison sentences, where they staged hunger strikes to secure better conditions, and were often force-fed.

After 1948 the work of the Nursing Association and the Home were divided, the Home becoming part of the Bridgwater, Minehead and Butleigh Hospital Committee. Nursing care was provided to the poor in their own homes, continuing the work of the Queen Victoria Nursing Institute, which was created in 1902. Hospital care for pregnant women was provided by the maternity and midwifery wards at the hospital. There was also a small ward for premature babies. The Home was funded by voluntary donations and fund raising until the National Health Act of 1948. The records also include the patient registers of the Queen Victoria Nursing Institute (see above) for the years, 1893-1921,1924-1928 and 1938-1942, and the case notes of Bridgwater Infirmary, 1913-1942. The latter include patient record cards for Army and RAF personnel and Italian prisoners of war.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RG992J - The UK homeless charity Shelter put the 2017 figure for the whole of the UK's homeless at 300,000. Recorded deaths among rough sleepers and those in temporary accommodation more than doubled in the five years to 2018. Homeless people die much younger than the general population, research by the Office for National Statistics shows. Homeless men die on average aged 44 while homeless women die on average aged 42. Homeless deaths have been rising stradily in the five years to 2018. Suicide, drug and alcohol abuse are the most common causes of death among homeless people. Jon Sparkes of Crisis urged the government to put causes of homelessness right, like building the number of social homes we need and making sure our welfare system is there to support people when they fall on hard times. The charity, Crisis attributes rising homelessness to a shortage of social housing, housing benefits not covering private rents and there not being homeless prevention schemes for people leaving care. Crisis wants the government to change polixy.
Crisis estimates there are roughly 12,300 rough sleepers in the UK and also 12,000 people sleeping in sheds, bins, cars, tents and night busses. The figure is derived from research by Heriot-Watt University. Rough sleeping has risen by 98% since 2010, sleeping in tents and the like rose 103%. In England rough sleeping rose by 120%, in Wales it rose by 75% and in Scotland it fell by 5%. Scotland has more inclusive homelessness laws, since 2012 guaranteeing a right to settled accommodation for all homeless people, including young single men, while England only houses those in priority need, like families with dependent children. Jon Sparkes of Crisis said, Christmas should be a time of joy, but for thousands of people sleeping rough, in tents or on public transport it will be anything but. While most of the country will be celebrating and enjoying a family meal, those who are homeless will face a struggle just to stay safe and escape the c

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy E6JB5N - The relaxed attitude to suitable bike riding attire this most compelling of spectator sports has a serious agenda: it's a protest against oil dependency and the way the cult of the car dominates contemporary life.
It's also an unfettered celebration of individuality of the human body. Many of the 1000 plus people expected to turn out will opt to bike in the buff. And if you too long to through caution and clothes to the wind, but feel a bit bashful, you can always take something along that's easy to put on when the procession gets held up by traffic, as it inevitably will.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DDXKGB - LGBT Warrington is organised by LGBT members who are all volunteers. The group has built great relationships with partners, which include the Council, police, health and local businesses.
They are here to help and welcome anyone who would like to join us to stamp out the stigma people may have on the LGBT community.
The group offers support to those who need it on a 1-2-1 basis and is treated with great confidentiality, and point people in the right direction of the services they require.
They meet throughout the year mainly to have a brew and chat about life in general, to meet and make new friends, and for those who require extra support, to help by signposting to relevant services in Warrington. We also at times hold activities such as bowling, theatre trips, quizzes and games.
They also have nights out in the town centre at Cotton Mill or Show Bar and take part with events they are holding, or even have the odd night out to Manchester to Canal Street or to the theatre.
During the year they are also visited by guest speakers.
They welcome visitors and potential new members whatever their sexuality, though is open to 18+ only.

A track with a tale of what you reap is what you sow.
'Cat's in the Cradle' is a 1974 folk rock song by Harry Chapin from the album Verities &
Balderdash. The single topped the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1974. As Chapin's only number one hit song, it became the best known of his work and a staple for folk rock music.
The song was based upon a poem written by Harry's wife Sandy
the poem itself was inspired by the awkward relationship between her first husband, James Cashmore, and his father, a New York City politician. She was also inspired by a country music song she had heard on the radio. Harry has also said that the song was about his father-son relationship with his son, Josh, saying that 'Frankly, this song scares me to death'.
The song is told in first-person by a father who is too busy to spend time with his son. Though the son asks him to join in childhood activities, the father always responds with little more than vague promises of spending time together in the 'future'. While wishing to spend time with his father, the son starts to model himself on his father's behaviour, hence the verse wishing to be 'just like him.'.
The final two verses are a reverse of the roles, where the father asks his grown-up son to visit, but the son responds that he is now too busy to find the time for his father. The father then reflects that they are both alike, saying 'my boy was just like me.' The song's chorus uses imagery related to childhood Cat's in the Cradle, Silver Spoon, Little Boy Blue, Man in the Moon.
This track was covered by the band 'Ugly Kid Joe' which sold over half a million in Australia. It was also used in the British Government Don't Suffer It, Change it / Despairs In The Cradle campaign in Northern Ireland mid 1980's - www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTWXDY1lJMY

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy H28RFJ - This documentary stock photograph shows Asian wedding hands and jewellery, henna and gold. The subject is Asian wedding hands with henna, gold jewellery and decorative adornment, giving it strong editorial and commercial stock value for features on South Asian wedding customs, bridal preparation, mehndi, gold jewellery, fashion, family ceremony and cultural identity. The photograph works because it focuses on visible cultural detail rather than a vague celebration image, with close-up detail helping to tell a story about preparation, appearance, hospitality and shared tradition. South Asian weddings in Britain often bring together clothing, jewellery, food, family rituals, photography, venue hire, faith traditions, music, gifting and large-scale catering, making this kind of image useful across lifestyle, culture, food, religion, fashion, retail and community publishing. It can support articles about British Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities, wedding costs, gold markets, henna artistry, bridal fashion, multicultural Britain, event catering, family celebration, migration, identity and the social importance of weddings as community gatherings. If the image shows hands, it can be used for close-up stories about mehndi patterns, bangles, rings, bracelets, nail decoration, gold adornment and the symbolic meaning of touch, blessing, beauty and commitment. If it shows food, it can illustrate buffet service, vegetarian and meat dishes, chefs, catering labour, hospitality margins, food safety, menu planning and the economics of large family events. Search-friendly composite terms include Asian wedding jewellery, Indian bridal henna hands, South Asian wedding food, British multicultural wedding, gold bangles and mehndi, Indian buffet catering, Pakistani wedding celebration and Bangladeshi wedding tradition. The image is suitable for editorial, lifestyle, food, fashion, cultural, family, community, religion, business and stock-photo use.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe (The Fringe) is the world's largest arts festival, with the 2012 event spanning 25 days totalling over 2,695 shows from 47 countries in 279 venues. Established in 1947 as an alternative to the Edinburgh International Festival, it takes place annually in Scotland's capital, in the month of August. The Fringe is a showcase for the performing arts, particularly theatre and comedy (which has seen substantial growth in recent years), although dance and music are also represented. In 2012, 36% of shows were comedy and 28% theatrical productions. Theatrical productions range from the classics of ancient Greece to William Shakespeare, Samuel Beckett and contemporary works. In 2012, 1,418 shows were having their world premiere.
The Fringe is an unjuried festival \u2013 with no selection committee, and therefore any type of performance may participate. The Fringe has often showcased experimental works that might not be invited to a more conservative arts festival. In addition to ticketed, programmed events, the Festival has included a street fair, located primarily on the Royal Mile. The Festival is organized by the Festival Fringe Society, which publishes the programme, sells tickets, and offers advice to performers. Their offices are on the Royal Mile.

Echo and Narcissus @ Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2012. From Rag and Bone Productions the Venue was theSpace on North Bridge. It was on until 18th August 2012 @ venue 36.
As the review says, 'Sometimes it is hard to tell image from reality until the illusion is shattered at the tap of a finger. Durham University\u2019s Rag &
Bone Productions use an exciting combination of physical theatre, drama and dance to bring you this dark and innovative take on a classic Greek myth. The tragic story of Echo and Narcissus follows the disastrous consequences of a man falling in love with his own reflection. Rag &
Bone successfully fuse visual spectacle with the best of storytelling to explore this tale of hurt, rejection, pride and vanity. Not to be missed!'
Narcissus, is a young man blessed with untold beauty, who spurns all amorous advances, be they from citizens, nymphs, or just about anyone who can appreciate the beauty of the perfect human form. Meanwhile, talkative forest nymph Echo is tasked by Zeus to distract his wife Hera with incredible stories while he has an affair. Hera finds out and curses Echo to be able to repeat only the ends of sentences spoken to her (hence her name, Echo).
She runs into Narcissus in a forest, he rejects her fumbled echoes and she wastes away until she is nothing but a voice. Narcissus rejects one final advance of an older man by the name of Ameinus and mocks him for his futile attempts, daring him to kill himself. Ameinus does so, but curses Narcissus beforehand, resulting in Artemis bewitching Narcissus to fall in love with the next person he sees.
As he is hunting in the woods, he stops to rest by a quiet pool in a grassy clearing and falls in love with his own reflection. At a loss, he plunges in to reach the young man but drowns. A small Narcissus flower is washed up on the shore afterwards, taking its name from him.

The Motels are a New Wave music band from the Los Angeles area best known for 'Only the Lonely' and 'Suddenly Last Summer', each of which peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982 and 1983, respectively. Their song 'Total Control' reached no 4 on the Australian charts in 1980. Martha Davis (born January 19, 1951), the lead singer, reformed a version of the band called 'The Motels featuring Martha Davis' in 1998
as of 2010 she continues to appear under that name with various line-ups of musicians.
In March 1978, Davis and lead guitarist Jeff Jourard (formerly of a pre-fame version of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) decided to reform his early 70's band, The Motels. Extensive auditions resulted in a new line-up of the band being formed, consisting of Jourard's brother Marty, who played both the saxophone and keyboards, Michael Goodroe on bass, and Brian Glascock on drums. Short on funds, the band shared rehearsal space with The Go-Go's at L.A.'s notorious punk basement, The Masque, and they played in Chinatown, at Madame Wong's restaurant/nightclub with such regularity that they were almost considered the house band.
The Motels began to draw faithful crowds around the L.A. music scene and on Mother's Day 1979 the group signed with Capitol Records, releasing their debut album The Motels four months later. Their first single, 'Closets and Bullets', made no impact on the charts, but their second single release, 'Total Control', found its way to the Top 20 in France and the Top 10 in Australia.
In 1980 Jourard was replaced as lead guitarist by Davis' boyfriend Tim McGovern and the band went back into the recording studio to record their second album, Careful. Released in June 1980, the album climbed to the no 45 spot on the Billboard 200 chart in the U.S. In Europe and the UK, the songs 'Days Are OK' and 'Whose Problem?' became Top 50 hits
'Whose Problem?' was also a top hit in Australia and 'Danger' was a Top 20 hit in France.
The band hired record producer Val Garay for their third album, Apocalypso. It was scheduled to be released in November 1981, but after Capitol Records heard the final product, they rejected it for being 'not commercial enough' and 'too weird'. The band attempted to go back and re-record the entire album but in the process, Davis and McGovern's relationship dissolved and by December 1981 McGovern was no longer in the band (McGovern subsequently formed the band Burning Sensations).
The rest of the band members forged on to finish recording the new album, utilizing studio musicians to fill in for McGovern on several of the tracks. Adrian Peritore (who went by the name Guy Perry because his former producer had misspelled his name on an album cover) was hired in late January and played lead guitar on some of the tracks, including 'He Hit Me'. The album was released on April 5, 1982 under the title All Four One.

'Cherry Bomb' is a 1976 punk-influenced hard rock song by the all-girl band The Runaways off of their self-titled debut album. It is widely regarded by many as the band's signature song. 'Cherry Bomb' was also ranked 52nd on VH1's 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs.
Singer/guitarist Joan Jett composed the song with the band's then-manager, Kim Fowley, and would later go on to re-record it with her band the Blackhearts for the 1984 album Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth.
The Runaways' version of the song was used in the cult classic film Dazed and Confused, and was featured on its soundtrack album. It can also be heard as a partial cover song by JoJo in the movie RV and was covered by Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart, who played Runaways frontwoman Cherie Currie and Joan Jett, for the 2010 biopic film The Runaways.
The song has been re-recorded by Jett and Currie to be featured in the video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock as a playable song.

'Jamie's Cryin' is a song by Van Halen from their 1978 debut album, Van Halen. The song was written and recorded live during the three week sessions for the album. The song discusses a woman who meets a man that only wants a one-night stand. She turns him down, but is sad for what might have been. Drummer Alex Van Halen identifies this song as his least favorite Van Halen song.
For recording of the song vocalist David Lee Roth wanted to go for a cleaner 'poppier' sound and quit smoking and drinking for a week before the final version was to be recorded. The band noticed the difference on Roth's vocals on what was to be the album version and Ted Templeman ordered him outside to smoke a cigarette. He smoked one, and drank half a bottle of whiskey, returning half an hour later and recording the track with more huskiness to his voice in about 45 minutes.
Eddie Van Halen's melodic line in the song's chorus bears a strong resemblance to the guitar melody in Lalo Schifrin's 1976 jazz instrumental 'Baia.'
'Jamie's Cryin'' was sampled in the 1988 single ' Wild Thing' by Tone Loc.

'Because the Night' is a song by the Patti Smith Group, written by Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith which was released as a single in 1978, taken from Smith's album Easter. The song was a hit, rising to #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and helping propel sales of Easter to mainstream success \u2013 even as Smith was deciding to retire from a life of constant touring. The song remains one of the best known of Smith's catalog.
In 1987, 'Because the Night' by Patti Smith Group was ranked number 116 on NME magazine's list of 'The Top 150 Singles of All Time'
The original song was recorded by Bruce Springsteen during sessions for his Darkness on the Edge of Town album. He was not satisfied with it
the Patti Smith Group was working on Easter in the studio next door, with engineer/producer Jimmy Iovine working on both albums.
Lovine gave Smith a tape of the song, she recast it, and it was included on Easter, becoming the first single released from that album. Though it was never released on any of Springsteen's studio albums, in concert beginning with his Darkness Tour Springsteen would often perform the song with his own lyrics. The song was first performed live (with Patti Smith) at CBGB's in New York City on December 30, 1977.
Until the 2010 release of Springsteen's box set The Promise, which included the original recording from the Darkness on the Edge of Town sessions, the only commercially released recording of a Springsteen version of the song was in the 1986 box set Live/1975\u201385, where Smith was listed as co-writer.

This is one of my favourite tracks from 'Welcome to My Nightmare', the eighth album by Alice Cooper, released in 1975. This was Alice Cooper's first solo album (all previous Alice Cooper releases were band efforts). The cover artwork was created by Drew Struzan for Pacific Eye &
Ear. Rolling Stone would later rank it as one of the 'Top 100 Album Covers Of All Time'.
Welcome to My Nightmare is a concept album. The songs, heard in sequence, form a journey through the nightmares of a child named Steven. Welcome to My Nightmare inspired the Alice Cooper: The Nightmare TV special and a worldwide concert tour in 1975, and the Welcome To My Nightmare concert film in 1976.
The song Welcome to my Nightmare is a parody of the 1968 novel 'There's a Nightmare in My Closet' by Mercer Mayer. Famed film actor of the Horror genre Vincent Price provided the introductory monologue in the song 'The Black Widow'. VP can be seen in the video link.
Alice Cooper was born Vincent Damon Furnier in 1948. He is an American rock singer, songwriter and musician whose career spans more than four decades. With a stage show that features guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood, boa constrictors and baby dolls, Cooper has drawn equally from horror movies, vaudeville and garage rock to pioneer a grandly theatrical and violent brand of heavy metal designed to shock. He came decades before the likes of Marilyn Manson and others.

'Black Magic Woman' is a song written by Peter Green that first appeared as a Fleetwood Mac single in various countries in 1968, subsequently appearing on the 1969 Fleetwood Mac compilation albums English Rose (US) and The Pious Bird of Good Omen (UK).
In 1970, it became a classic hit by Santana, as sung by Gregg Rolie, reaching no 4 in the U.S. and Canadian charts, after appearing on their Abraxas album, becoming more closely associated with Santana than Fleetwood Mac.
Santana is a band based around guitarist Carlos Santana and founded in the late 1960s. It first came to public attention after their performing the song 'Soul Sacrifice' at the Woodstock Festival in 1969, when their Latin rock provided a contrast to other acts on the bill. This initial exposure made their first, eponymous album a hit at the time, followed in the next two years by successful follow-ups Abraxas and Santana III.
Over the next few years, lineup changes were common and frequent, and although retaining a basis of Latin rock, Carlos Santana's increasing involvement with guru Sri Chinmoy took the band further into more esoteric music, which continued for many years, although never quite losing the initial Latin influence.
In 1998, the group was inducted into the Rock &
Roll Hall of Fame, with Carlos Santana, Jose Chepito Areas, David Brown, Mike Carabello, Gregg Rolie and Michael Shrieve being honored.
Santana has achieved a total of eight Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards which were all awarded in 2000. Carlos also won two Grammy Awards as a solo artist in 1989 and 2003.

Blondie is an American rock band, founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. The band was a pioneer in the early American New Wave and punk scenes of the mid-1970s at CBGB's in New York.
Their first two albums contained strong elements of these genres, and although successful in the United Kingdom and Australia, Blondie was regarded as an underground band in the United States until the release of Parallel Lines in 1978. Over the next three years, the band achieved several hit singles and became noted for its eclectic mix of musical styles incorporating elements of disco, pop, rap, and reggae, while retaining a basic style as a New Wave band.
Blondie broke up after the release of their sixth studio album The Hunter in 1982. Debbie Harry continued to pursue a solo career with varied results after taking a few years off to care for partner Chris Stein, who was diagnosed with pemphigus, a rare autoimmune disease of the skin.
The band reformed in 1997, achieving renewed success and a number one single in the United Kingdom with 'Maria' in 1999. The group toured and performed throughout the world during the following years, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Blondie has sold 40 million records worldwide and is still active today, with a new album, Panic of Girls, released 30 May 2011 in the UK.
Prostitution itself is legal in the UK: a person can buy sexual services and working as a private prostitute or outcall escort is legal \u2013 but many related activities are not. This includes kerb crawling, pimping, keeping a brothel, advertising the services of call girls by placing cards (\u201ctart cards\u201d) in phone boxes, like these here and having sex in public. The laws apply to both male and female prostitutes and male and female clients.
Under the Street Offences Act 1959, it is illegal for a prostitute to wait for or solicit business in a street or public place, effectively making street prostitution illegal. Although assistance should be given to assist offenders in finding a route out of prostitution, prostitutes may be punished. Usually first or second time offenders will be cautioned, third and fourth time offenders are usually arrested and charged and on the fifth offence an anti-social behaviour order may be issued on conviction.

This is the first track from one of my favourite albums, the stunning debut 'Real Life', rightfully acclaimed as one of the greatest LP's of all time. The Guardian had this to say: 'Released in April 78, Magazine's debut was the first post-punk album. And Howard Devoto was the first post-punk anti-star, with his cryptic lyrics and anxious-young-man persona. Real Life had punk energy and art-rock ambition, with complex song structures and sophisticated musicianship.'
The band was formed by Howard Devoto after leaving Manchester punk band Buzzcocks in early 1977, deciding to create a more experimental and less punk band who later influenced many musicians. Magazine reunited for a tour through Britain in February 2009, with almost all the most remaining and 'classic' line-up during their brief time, with the exception of guitarist John McGeoch (who died in 2004 and was replaced by Noko, who had played with Devoto in Luxuria).
Early work followed punk stylings. The first single 'Shot By Both Sides', the chorus of which shared the same progression as Buzzcocks' 'Lipstick,' fractionally missed the UK Top 40. Its cover was an early example of the goth influence in punk. The band, with the recently recruited Dave Formula on keyboards, made its first major TV appearance on Top Of The Pops in February 1978, performing the single.
In 1979 Magazine's second album, 'Secondhand Daylight' was released, reaching the UK Top 40. The record features more experimental, synthesizer-based material. That same year, McGeoch, Adamson and Formula joined electronic project Visage, recording and releasing the single 'Tar'.
For the 'Correct Use of Soap', Devoto decided to change producer, choosing twisted genius Martin Hannett. The album made the Top 30. Following its release McGeoch decided to leave the band, tired of Magazine's low sales and their less guitar-oriented songs, joining Siouxsie and the Banshees.
To replace him the band called Robin Simon, who previously was in Ultravox.
After over 25 years a reunion was planned. The sold out shows received widespread critical acclaim, together with festivals in the UK and abroad over summer. In January 2010 Noko officially joined the band, becoming a full member of Magazine.

Valley Girl - 'Frank Zappa' - Play this track here.
\u00bfWhats this iPod Shuffle set all about? Read about it here
Wikipedia describes Valley Girl (or Val, Val Gal) 'as a stereotype leveled at a socio-economic and ethnic class of American women who can be described as colloquial English-speaking, materialistic, self-centered, hedonistic, and often sexually promiscuous. Valspeak is also a form of this trait, based on an exaggerated version of '80s California English'.
'Valley Girl' is a song by the musician Frank Zappa and his 14 year-old daughter, 'Moon Unit Zappa'. It was released on Zappa's 1982 album 'Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch'. Moon supplied Frank with much of the content speaking typical 'Valley girl' phrases. Zappa intended to lampoon the image, but the single also helped popularized the valley girl stereotype in the states.
Sadly no longer with us, over 30 years, Zappa wrote rock, jazz, electronic, orchestral, and musique concr\u00e8te works. He also directed feature-length films and music videos, and designed album covers. Zappa produced almost all of the more than 60 albums he released with the band Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist.
Zappa was married to Kathryn J. 'Kay' Sherman from 1960 to 1964. In 1967 he married Adelaide Gail Sloatman, with whom he remained until his death from prostate cancer in 1993. They had four children: Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan and Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen.
Zappa was very anti-censorship. In September 1985, Zappa testified before the United States Senate Commerce, Technology, and Transportation committee, attacking the Parents Music Resource Center or PMRC, a music organization, co-founded by Tipper Gore, former wife of then-senator Al Gore. PMRC consisted of many wives of politicians, including the wives of five members of the committee, and was founded to address the issue of song lyrics with sexual or satanic content.
He stated 'The establishment of a rating system, voluntary or otherwise, opens the door to an endless parade of moral quality control programs based on things certain Christians do not like. What if the next bunch of Washington wives demands a large yellow 'J' on all material written or performed by Jews, in order to save helpless children from exposure to concealed Zionist doctrine?'
Zappa's passion for American politics became a bigger part of his life. He had always encouraged his fans to register to vote on album covers, and throughout 1988 he had registration booths at his concerts. He even considered running for President of the United States. Now maybe that might have changed history, and saved a few lives.
Frank Zappa was truly a giant. Everyone must have at least one Zappa album, even if its the compilation, 'Strictly Commercial'. Give 'Sheik Yerbouti' and 'Joes Garage' a look too.
------------------------
In the Greater Los Angeles area, the term 'Valley Girl' apparently originated and still refers to girls from the San Fernando Valley. In context it is associated with a spoiled girl from an upper-middle class background who socializes with other 'valley girls' in cliques. In regions neighboring the San Fernando Valley, people will often call a girl a 'valley girl' or tell her to 'go back to the valley' if she is showing signs of materialism and/or idiotic behavior.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer parodied the valley girl, with the main character, Buffy Summers, often saving the males of the programme. Buffy's contemporaries Cordelia and Harmony more closely fit to the conventions of the Valley girl.
The nearest thing in the UK is the classic 'Essex Girl' stereotype. Someone please ask me and I will tell them the classic cucumber/Essex girl joke (Amber - step up to the plate dear!).
In Ireland apparently D4 denotes upper middle class females associated with shopping in Dundrum Town Centre, the upmarket shopping centre adjacent to Dundrum village. Ugg boots and fake tan features, so I am told.

A track to enjoy with a drink in your hand or a bar of quality chocolate, this one.
The word 'morcheeba' is meant to indicate 'the way of cannabis'. This originated from 'MOR'(middle of the road) plus 'Cheeba' (informal name of cannabis).
Morcheeba mix pop, hip-hop, rock and electronica and are based in the UK. They have consisted of Paul &
Ross Godfrey, Skye Edwards and recently Daisy Martey, among many guests. Their debut album 'Who Can You Trust?' on China Records was released in April 1996.
This track comes from 'Big Calm' the second album which was more mainstream and pop-ey.
This is the best album to start with Morcheeba, if you check it out, tell 'em I sent you :-)

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4560602809 - 'Eastgate, shown here and Eastgate Clock in Chester, Cheshire, England, stand on the site of the original entrance to the Roman fortress of Deva Victrix. The clock is a prominent landmark in the city of Chester and is said to be the most photographed clock in England after Big Ben.
The original gate was guarded by a timber tower which was replaced by a stone tower in the 2nd century, and this in turn was replaced probably in the 14th century. The present gateway dates from 1768 and is a three-arched sandstone structure which carries the walkway forming part of Chester city walls. In 1899 a clock was added to the top of the gateway to celebrate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria two years earlier. It is carried on openwork iron pylons, has a clock face on all four sides, and a copper ogee cupola. The clock was designed by the Chester architect John Douglas. The whole structure, gateway and clock, was listed by English Heritage on 28 July 1955 as a Grade I listed building. You know you have been on a visit to Chester when you have an image of this clock in your memory card. To avoid this failure of imagination, this photograph was taken from under the clock mechanism.
Eastgate was originally defended by a timber tower. The road running through the gate led to Manchester, then across the Pennines to York. By the 18th century the city walls were no longer needed for defensive purposes and so, rather than being pulled down, they were converted into walkways. The medieval gateways were obstructing the traffic into the city and were replaced by wider arched gateways with balustraded parapets. The first gateway to be replaced was Eastgate in 1768 which was rebuilt as an 'elegant arch'. It was built at the expense of Richard Grosvenor, 1st Earl Grosvenor, and designed by Mr Hayden (or Heyden), the earl's surveyor of buildings.
Eastgate today is a clutch of upmarket shops, Browns Jewellers, banks and the Chester Grosvenor Five Star Hotel. Afternoons are a swirl of rushing shoppers, some stationary Italian, Japanese and American tourists and generally the street artist or odd busker knocking out 'Wonderwall'. To the right the wooden 'rows' uniquely of Chester can be seen, including the 'Ye Olde Boot Inn'. A fine watering hole with Sam Smiths ales, the oldest in Chester, circa 1643.
This image was awarded first prize in the April 2010 WDCC club competition 'Urban Images'.

Bingo or Housey Housey as some pensioners still call it is a gambling game of unknown origin. Players mark off numbers on a ticket as they are randomly called out, in order to achieve a winning combination.
The first column contains numbers from 1 to 9, The second column numbers from 10 to 19, The third 20 to 29 and so on up until the last column, which contains numbers from 80 to 90 (the 90 being placed in this column as well).
When called, numbers often aquire the types of preambles below:

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AE026P - Girls,Girls,Girls, red neon,XXX,X-Rated has the strength of a real-world scene: ordinary enough to be believable, but specific enough to support precise editorial use. Red neon advertising adult entertainment uses a deliberately blunt visual language of sex, night-time commerce and urban spectacle. The subject can illustrate red-light districts, nightlife, censorship, gender politics, neon typography, city economies after dark and the uneasy boundary between entertainment, exploitation and visual culture. The location wording gives the subject enough geographic context for local and regional editorial use while avoiding a generic studio feel. It can work both as a straightforward location record and as a wider editorial illustration of the habits, services, buildings, symbols and small commercial details that shape everyday life.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy D8HF98 - The Many Reasons Why Women Love Shoes So Very Much
By the time you've reached the shoe store, the body has begun to release dopamine and serotonin as well as norepinephrine and oxytocin
Women love shoes
it's an indisputable fact! Some women love high heels
some women love shoes that are bejewelled and bedazzled, some love Western boots, some love gladiator sandals, some love ballet pumps and some love thick, heavy boots. Whatever your shoe of choice, we know you love them. Ladies stalk through the pages of fashion magazines or blogs, searching for discounted designer fashion, we trawl through vintage and second-hand shops looking for just the right pair of already worn-in leather, we window shop with eyes lit up like Christmas trees. No judgement here
shoes are the best! The question is, why do women love shoes so much? I mean, in the end, they're really just safety coverings for your feetaren't they? Let's unpack some of the reasons why women love shoes so much.
Shoes: A Love Story
There's the obvious reason, of course: shoes are pretty. I can't count the times I have seen a gorgeous woman walking down the street. Her hair is blowing softly in the breeze, her face alight with happiness, her outfit perfectly coordinated and thenboom, bad shoes. A bad shoe can destroy all the beauty in a perfect outfit, in the same way, a beautiful shoe serves to complement it. A lovely pair of shoes is the star on top of the tree
no outfit is quite complete without it! There's a shoe to suit every kind of woman. If you like adding a little height and extending those gorgeous legs, then high heels are for you. Platforms, stilettos, bootsand the list goes on
Curator of a recent exhibition at F.I.T. in New York, Valerie Steele, believes that shoes become an extension of a woman's body and that they say a lot about our social status, sexuality, ethics and attitude. Valerie wondered if perhaps, the sculptural quality of shoes is part of the reason

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy EY5KB3 - Woman on poster distracting drivers on the road, Warrington England, UK - Boohoo online clothing advert captures the kind of ordinary visual evidence that helps editors illustrate a broader story without resorting to a generic symbol. A large fashion advert beside the road raises questions about outdoor advertising, attention, road safety and the way online retail brands occupy physical urban space. Boohoo's presence also links the scene to fast fashion, influencer culture, body image, consumer behaviour, planning controls and the visual clutter of modern roadside environments. The named location, Warrington, makes the scene useful where regional accuracy matters, including local press, travel features, planning stories and heritage articles. Possible editorial uses include articles on signage, street sign, commercial sign, public notice, especially where the story needs a concrete example rather than a studio illustration. Important searchable clues include woman, poster, distracting, drivers, warrington, boohoo, giving the description both factual precision and broader editorial reach.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy H28RFC - This documentary stock photograph shows Asian Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi wedding hands and jewellery, beautiful henna and gold adornments.
