Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EG4C12 - GRIDSERVE electric vehicle charging points at Roadchef Chester services on the M56, photographed with green-lit signage, white charging units, car park bays, small solar panels and compact vertical wind turbines mounted on tall black poles. The image raises a useful editorial question about greenwashing, because the visible renewable devices appear small compared with the likely power demand of rapid EV charging. They may contribute some energy, provide lighting or act as symbolic sustainability features, but the main charging load is normally supplied through the electricity grid rather than a few roadside panels and micro turbines. That makes the photograph suitable for careful coverage of electric vehicle infrastructure, motorway services, net zero transport, renewable energy claims, consumer trust, green branding and the difference between practical decarbonisation and marketing optics.
The scene is still a strong illustration of the UK shift towards EV travel. Motorway service areas such as Chester on the M56 are important for drivers who need reliable charging between North Wales, Cheshire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester. GRIDSERVE is one of the best-known UK charging brands, while Roadchef has worked with GRIDSERVE to expand charging provision across its motorway service network. The green signage, clean white chargers and landscaped edge of the car park communicate modern sustainability, convenience and lower-emission motoring.
The image also has wider relevance to stories about whether roadside infrastructure is keeping pace with electric vehicle adoption and how service areas communicate environmental responsibility. The sunny weather, blue sky, scattered cloud and bright grass make the site look optimistic and clean, while the small scale of the panels and turbines invites more sceptical interpretation. It can be used for editorial coverage of EV charging capacity, motorway infrastructure, renewable energy symbolism, ESG messaging, transport policy,

The white silos, painted with blue Persil-style washing symbols, recall the town's long association with soap, detergents and chemical manufacturing. Warrington's Bank Quay area was central to British soap production, with Crosfields developing a major soap works and Lever Brothers later linked to the site before the growth of Unilever. The factory became strongly associated with household laundry brands including Persil and Surf, and for decades its large blue buildings and decorated storage tanks formed part of the everyday view from train platforms and passing rail services. Recent reports describe the former Unilever site at Bank Quay as around 130 years old, once at the heart of Warrington's historic soap-making industry, and now set for redevelopment as a major data centre following closure and demolition plans. The photograph is commercially useful for stories about industrial heritage, Warrington manufacturing, Lever Brothers, Unilever, Persil, detergent production, factory closure, brownfield redevelopment, railway views, data centre development and the changing use of prominent industrial sites. It can also illustrate the way brand imagery and functional infrastructure become local icons, remembered by commuters, visitors and residents even after production has ended. The silos' height, repeated cylindrical forms, ladders, platforms, weathered paint and blue decoration give the scene strong documentary value for industrial architecture, urban history, business change, chemical works, regeneration and the loss of traditional manufacturing employment. As a stock image, it records a distinctive Warrington landmark at the point where soap-making history, rail travel and post-industrial redevelopment meet.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RX17PT - A car wash, or auto wash is a facility used to clean the exterior, and in some cases the interior, of cars. Car washes can be self-service, full-service (with attendants who wash the vehicle), or fully automated (possibly connected to a filling station). Car washes may also be events where people pay to have their cars washed by volunteers, often using less specialized equipment, as a fundraiser
By the mid-1960s, Hanna Enterprises established itself as the main manufacturer of car washing equipment and materials. This includes the Wrap-Around Brush, Roller-on-demand Conveyor belt, soft cloth friction washing, several ways to wash the tires, and a recirculating water system.
The 1970s introduced the automatic wheel cleaner and the polish'n'wax
Conveyor-driven/tunnel car wash
The first conveyor-driven automatic car wash appeared in Hollywood, California in 1940. Conveyor-driven automatic car washes consist of tunnel-like buildings into which customers (or attendants) drive
A vehicle exiting the friction zone of the wash. Visible are side brushes, wrap-around brushes, the conveyor, and a high-pressure rinse arch.
The car wash will typically start cleaning with chemicals called presoaks applied through special arches. CTAs, or chemical tire applicators, apply specialized formulations, which remove brake dust and build-up from the surface of the wheels and tires.
At the end of a car wash's presoak a high-pressure arch may be used to direct water at the vehicle's surface.
The car is rinsed with fresh water immediately followed by a series of extra services if required. In many car washes, the first of these services is a polish wax. After the polish wax application is typically a retractable mitter or top brush and, in some cases, side brushes or wrap-around brushes. Next is a protectant, which creates a thin protective film over a vehicle's surface
