Conveyor-driven/tunnel car wash
The first conveyor-driven automatic car wash appeared in Hollywood, California in 1940. Conveyor-driven automatic car washes consist of tunnel-like buildings into which customers (or attendants) drive

The car wash will typically start cleaning with chemicals called presoaks applied through special arches. CTAs, or chemical tire applicators, apply specialized formulations, which remove brake dust and build-up from the surface of the wheels and tires.
At the end of a car wash's presoak a high-pressure arch may be used to direct water at the vehicle's surface.
The car is rinsed with fresh water immediately followed by a series of extra services if required. In many car washes, the first of these services is a polish wax. After the polish wax application is typically a retractable mitter or top brush and, in some cases, side brushes or wrap-around brushes. Next is a protectant, which creates a thin protective film over a vehicle's surface

The village is north of the River Mersey, and just to the east of the boundary with Merseyside. It is 2+1?2 miles east of Speke in Liverpool, and 4 miles south-west of Widnes. The nearby village of Halebank is to the north-east.
Historically part of Lancashire, until 1 April 1974 the area formed part of the Whiston Rural District.
The population of the parish is stable with a population of 1,898 (2001 census), 1,841 (2011 census) and 1,800 (2021 census).
John Middleton (1578?1623), the Childe of Hale, was reputed to be nine feet, three inches tall, or 2.8 m. His cottage and grave are located in the village. Just outside St Mary's Church was a wooden carving of the Childe Of Hale that is said to have been life-sized. It was replaced in 2013 by a 3-metre bronze statue by sculptor Diane Gorvin
Middleton was born in the village of Hale, near Liverpool. According to contemporary accounts and his epitaph, he grew to the height of 9 feet 3 inches (2.82 m) and slept with his feet hanging out the window of his house.
Because of his size the landlord and sheriff of Lancashire, Gilbert Ireland, hired him as a bodyguard. When King James I stopped by in 1617 to knight Ireland he heard about Middleton and invited both of them to the court, which they accepted in 1620. Middleton beat the King's champion in wrestling and in doing so broke the man's thumb. He received ?20, a large amount of money in those times. Jealous of his wealth, Middleton's companions mugged him or swindled him out of his money while he was returning to Hale. Middleton died impoverished in 1623. He was buried in the cemetery of St Mary's Church in Hale. The epitaph reads, Here lyeth the bodie of John Middleton the Childe of Hale. Nine feet three. Borne 1578 Dyede 1623. He is likely one of the tallest people in history. If these height markings are accurate, he would surpass Robert Wadlow's stature

Down a short passageway on the rear right a sliding door leads into the small Trophy Room with Victorian fixed seating with carved arms / bench ends and bell pushes all around the room but, again, another modern brick fireplace. The front of the pub is three rooms opened up and modernised but the bar counter may be old with a modern frontage of carved panels added and an area on the front right does retain old fixed seating and bell pushes. The museum was an initiative of the Merseyside Development Corporation. Tate Liverpool was created to display work from the Tate Collection which comprises the national collection of British art from the year 1500 to the present day, and international modern art. The gallery also has a programme of temporary exhibitions. Until 2003, Tate Liverpool was the largest gallery of modern and contemporary art in the UK outside London.
History
Housed in a converted warehouse within the Albert Dock on Liverpool's waterfront, the gallery was opened on 24 May 1988 by Prince Charles, an event covered by BBC Two television. The original conversion was done by James Stirling but the building was given a major refurbishment in 1998 to create additional gallery space.
In 2007, the foyer area was redesigned by architects Arca to create an updated appearance and better proportions, as well as to improve visitor handling. The gallery cafe was also redesigned by Peter Blake and Liverpool-based architects, Architectural Emporium. The centrepiece of the space is a new timber desk with an undulating orange fascia, which links to the retained colour scheme of the original conversion work by Stirling. A colour-changing wall acts as a backdrop to the simplified brick volume, visible from across Albert Dock. Behind the scenes, Arca also made alterations to the hospitality, cloakroom, events and education areas.

Following a more-than ?50m donation, the building will be named after American businessman Len Blavatnik, whose contribution is believed to be the largest-ever financial gift given to a UK museum. The donation was originally pledged in 2011, which helped Tate to secure support from other donors for the extension. Blavatnik, who emigrated to the US from the Soviet union in 1978, made his money in the Russian oil industry. The family's foundation, the Blavatnik Family Trust has gifted money to other cultural institutions including the National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum, British Museum and Royal Academy of Arts (all London), the National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York).

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JDJ4J2 - The parish of Christ Church started with the building of an infant's school when the population of Latchford grew large enough to warrant such a school. This building still exists and it is now known as Wash Lane Schoolroom. However, after the death of Thomas Greenall, and following his wishes, his family decided to build a small sandstone church of Gothic design. The church consisted of a nave and chancel with an ornamental spire and its first priest was the Reverend Richard Greenall. On Tuesday, 16th July 1861 the Bishop of Chester, the Right Rev. Dr. John Graham, consecrated the church under the name of Christ Church. One can still find a brass plate in the chancel of the church commemorating the event: ? To the glory of God, and in affectionate memory of the late Thomas Greenall of Wilderspool and Grappenhall this church was erected Anno Domini 1861.
Christ Church was originally a chapel of ease to the mother church of St. Wilfrid at Grappenhall and was made a parish by Order of Council on 12th March 1866 with a population of 1,031 people. The parish priest at that time was the Reverend W.R. Burgess. The Vicarage was built in 1867 on land adjoining the church bought by Thomas Greenall's sons.
In 1875-76 a gallery at the west end of the nave was removed along with the organ. A transept, organ chamber and a vestry were added on the north side of the church. An organ which originally belonged to St. Wilfrid's church was installed as well as the west tracery window and a sedilia was placed in the
Sanctuary. Stained glass windows were placed at the south side of the chancel and at the southwest end of the nave. At the beginning of September 1882 an alabaster reredos and chancel arch were added.

Opened in 1971, the station had a generating capacity of 1,989 megawatts and took water from the River Mersey. After privatisation in 1990 the station was operated by various companies, and from 2004 by SSE Thermal. The power station closed on 31 March 2020.
With its eight 114-metre (374 ft) high cooling towers and 200-metre (660 ft) high chimney the station is a prominent local landmark and can be seen from as far away as the Peak District and the Pennines
An application to build Fiddler's Ferry Power Station was proposed in 1962.It was built by the Cleveland Bridge Company between 1964 and 1971, and came into full operation in 1973.There are eight cooling towers arranged in two groups of four located to the north and south of the main building. There is a single chimney located to the east of the main building. One of the station's cooling towers collapsed in high winds on 13 January 1984 and was rebuilt. When it was built, the station mainly burned coal mined in the South Yorkshire Coalfield and transported across the Pennines on the Manchester-Sheffield-Wath electric railway. Later the coal was imported.
Between 2006 and 2008 Fiddlers Ferry was fitted with Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) plant to reduce the emissions of sulphur by 94%, meeting the European Large Combustion Plant Directive. In 2010, the station was being considered for the installation of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) equipment. This would reduce the station's emissions of nitrogen oxides, to meet the requirements of the Industrial Emissions (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control) Directive. The SCR technology would replace the Separated Over Fire Air (SOFA) technology which was used in the station. The SCR equipment was not fitted due to uncertainty over the future of the plant.

I wanted to do something special for them, and rainbows seem to be the thing of the moment ? I thought I'd paint the biggest one I could as a thank you to the NHS and key workers.
It's been great to see people's faces while we've been painting it.
They have absolutely loved it, it's made people smile when everyone is worried and miserable at the moment ? it's been really uplifting and it looks great.
Hexel was first set up as a computer shop on Cairo Street in the town centre in 1996 before moving to its current home around 15 years ago, making it one of Warrington's longest established IT firms.
It took Craig, his wife Pandy and two of the company's engineers roughly a week to paint the side of the building before work was completed yesterday, Wednesday, with a few finishing touches.
He added: It's probably taken us about a week to paint the rainbow all in all.
The Union Jack was quite a landmark that everyone knew, so I didn't want to lose that.
I can't believe it's eight years ago since we did it, that made everyone smile as well.
People are always saying ?are you the place with the Union Jack on it?'.
It might come back at some point in a year or two when all of this is over.
I've got plenty of rainbow paint leftover if anybody needs any.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy PCTACG - Lever Brothers was a British manufacturing company founded in 1885 by brothers William Hesketh Lever (1851?1925) and James Darcy Lever (1854?1916). They invested in and successfully promoted a new soap-making process invented by chemist William Hough Watson. In 1930, Lever Brothers merged with Margarine Unie to form Unilever.
Starting with a small grocery business begun by his father, William Lever and his brother James entered the soap business in 1885 by buying a small soap works in Warrington. The brothers teamed up with a Bolton chemist, William Hough Watson, who became an early business partner. Watson invented the process which resulted in a new soap, using glycerin and vegetable oils such as palm oil, rather than tallow. The Lady Lever Art Gallery is set in the garden village of Port Sunlight, on the Wirral and one of the National Museums Liverpool.
The museum is a significant surviving example of late Victorian and Edwardian taste. It houses major collections of fine and decorative art that are an expression of Lord Leverhulme's personal taste and collecting interests. The collection is strong in British 19th-century painting and sculpture, spilling over to include late 18th-century and early 20th works. There are important collections of English furniture, Wedgwood, especially jasperware, and Chinese ceramics, and smaller groups of other types of objects, such as Ancient Greek vases and Roman sculpture. The majority of objects were part of the original donation, but the collection has continued to expand at a modest rate. The museum displays mostly mixed paintings, sculpture and furniture together, and there are five Period Rooms recreating typical period interiors from large houses.
The Building was commissioned in 1913 from architects William and Segar Owen, the Lady Lever Art Gallery was built in the Beaux-Arts style. The building was opened in 1922 by Princess Beatrice, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria.
In 2015 part of the museum was closed for building works, with little of the ceramics collections on display, but most of the other collections. A touring exhibition visited museums in Japan and elsewhere. The redeveloped South End galleries were restored to their original architecture style as part of a ?2.8 million restoration project in 2016. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy P72DH2 - The Lady Lever Art Gallery is a museum founded and built by the industrialist and philanthropist William Lever, 1st Viscount Leverhulme and opened in 1922. The Lady Lever Art Gallery is set in the garden village of Port Sunlight, on the Wirral and one of the National Museums Liverpool.
The museum is a significant surviving example of late Victorian and Edwardian taste. It houses major collections of fine and decorative art that are an expression of Lord Leverhulme's personal taste and collecting interests. The collection is strong in British 19th-century painting and sculpture, spilling over to include late 18th-century and early 20th works. There are important collections of English furniture, Wedgwood, especially jasperware, and Chinese ceramics, and smaller groups of other types of objects, such as Ancient Greek vases and Roman sculpture. The majority of objects were part of the original donation, but the collection has continued to expand at a modest rate. The museum displays mostly mixed paintings, sculpture and furniture together, and there are five Period Rooms recreating typical period interiors from large houses.
The Building was commissioned in 1913 from architects William and Segar Owen, the Lady Lever Art Gallery was built in the Beaux-Arts style. The building was opened in 1922 by Princess Beatrice, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria.
In 2015 part of the museum was closed for building works, with little of the ceramics collections on display, but most of the other collections. A touring exhibition visited museums in Japan and elsewhere. The redeveloped South End galleries were restored to their original architecture style as part of a ?2.8 million restoration project in 2016. The work included opening up original doorways to increase the circulation of visitors, improving the lighting and restoring some of the original vaulted ceilings

The Missionaries of Charity in Liverpool offer hospitality to the homeless community. Volunteers assist the work of the Missionaries of Charity in giving out food. After the clients finish their food they often have another cup of tea and a cake and then start to disperse. The volunteers then wash up the dishes, sweep and mop the floor and clean the tables. Some volunteers go around the dining-room and pour out tea for people. On occasion a client may be drunk and become somewhat agitated
on these occasions the nuns step in and sort out the situation. Whilst it can be quite daunting going into the Missionaries of Charity ?soup-kitchen' at first, volunteers often say they become more confident as the weeks go on, and look forward to returning week after week.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HE7MA7 - St Anne's Cathedral, also known as Belfast Cathedral, is a cathedral of the Church of Ireland in Donegall Street, Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is unusual in serving two separate dioceses (Connor and Down and Dromore), yet being the seat of neither (it is geographically in the Diocese of Connor), it is therefore not a cathedral in the truest sense of the word, a cathedral being a church housing the seat of a bishop.[1] It is, however, titled as such. It is the focal point of the Cathedral Quarter, Belfast.
The first architect was Sir Thomas Drew, the foundation stone being laid on 6 September 1899 by the Countess of Shaftesbury. The old parish church of St Anne by Francis Hiorne of 1776 had continued in use, up until 31 December 1903, while the new cathedral was constructed around it
the old church was then demolished. The Good Samaritan window, to be seen in the sanctuary, is the only feature of the old church to be retained in the cathedral. Initially, only the nave of the cathedral was built, and this was consecrated on 2 June 1904.
In 1924 it was decided to build the west front of the cathedral as a memorial to the Ulstermen and women who had served and died in World War I. The foundation stone for this was laid by Governor of Northern Ireland, the Duke of Abercorn on 2 June 1925 and the completed facade, to an amended design by the architect Sir Charles Archibald Nicholson, was dedicated in June 1927.
In the meantime, the central crossing, in which the choir sits, was built between 1922 and 1924. The Baptistery, to plans drawn up by the late W H Lynn, who had assisted Sir Thomas Drew, was dedicated in 1928, and the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, with its beautiful mosaics depicting Saint Patrick, was dedicated on 5 July 1932, the 1500th anniversary of the arrival of St Patrick in Ireland.

Its got to be the mascot up at Cheshire's top hand car wash Garnett. They are a really friendly team down there and do a cracking job. I can recommend them.
Look out for the mascot which will be around town from now and into the summer to promote the business that covers cars, valets, drives and conservatories from their base at Old Warrington road, Northwich and out at Tatton adjacent to the Little Chef on the A556. They also clean Fascias, Caravans and even done the odd Tractor believe it or not. Handy as they are insured with NFU (originally the farmers mutual).
Back in December, the local council, Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC), took offence at the companies distinctive green and yellow A-Boards. I am unsure if it was the colour or size that was the nature of the complaint. If it was that they were prominent, isn't that the point? I have still noticed plenty of A-Boards around town. To be consistant shouldn't they all be banned?
Shirley Wingfield, a spokesman for CWAC, was reported in the Northwich Guardian as saying \u201cWe do not regard what Mr Garnett was advertising on as A-boards, we regard it as fly posting. \u201cWe act when incidents are reported to us and people are asked not to do it again. If they persist they are issued with a fixed penalty notice.\u201d
Personally I thought I thought I had a good idea what a fly posting was, but maybe not!

Torin (Scottish Gaelic: Na Torrain) is a settlement on the island of Skye in Scotland.
The crofting and fishing village lies on the eastern shore of Loch Slapin, 5 miles (7 km) southwest of Broadford (An t-??th Leathann), on the road to Elgol (Ealaghol). There is a mixture of Victorian white-washed cottages and modern flat-pack houses. The village boasts good views of Blaven and Loch Slapin.
Torrin sits on Durness limestone. There is an abundance of trees and varied plant flora, including more than a dozen species of orchids. Much of the area is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation.
There are five working crofts in Torrin with cattle and sheep. The common grazing extends north onto the surrounding red granite hills Beinn Dearg Mh?r (709m) and Beinn Dearg Bheag (584m) and beyond the head of Loch Slapin .

The initiative, which has been confirmed for at least the next six months, will help to support those who are making the switch from petrol and diesel to electric.
There are currently 56 charging points at the Time Square car park ? one of the highest number of charging points in a single location in the country ? with another 12 charging points available at the new Warrington West station.
The move to offering free electric vehicle charging comes after the council's climate emergency declaration in June.
The plans to encourage electric vehicle travel also support the council's Air Quality Action Plan, which aims to reduce nitrogen dioxide levels within the main, busy traffic routes leading into and around the town.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, cabinet member for environment, who drives an electric car herself, said: It's great news that I'm able to announce free charging points for electric vehicle users here in Warrington.
