We've been looking back at the way the village came together to celebrate 1000 years in 1923 and 1050 years in 1973. In 1923, Thelwall's celebrations helped to fund a new war memorial (Bell Lane), dedicated in 1925. So successful was the event that the pub was drunk dry and the caterers ran out of food and drinks. In May 1973, Thelwall Youth and Community Association organised Festival 1050 “ a four day event with a folk festival, a piano recital by Stephen Hough, an arts and crafts exhibition in the school and a procession that saw Miss Thelwall (Carol Moss) brought across the Manchester Ship Canal by the ferry boat where she was met by the Thelwall Rose Queen (Julie Lager) to a fanfare. They then joined a procession of vintage cars round the village.

They will be joined by some Orange bands - accordion and concertina bands, and some juniors. Many of the children will be dressed as King William and Queen Mary while the Provincial King, Queen and Bible Carrier are made up of young children from No 5 Enniskillen District who have been preparing for the event for over 12 months.
For the first time in many years, the parade will be led by a traditional pipe band with members from the Everton and District Pipe Band in full highland dress. Minibuses will be driving within the ranks of the parade to allow elderly members, some of whom have over 60 years of service to the institution in Liverpool, or members unable to walk to a full and active part in the proceedings.
This year's parade is the first in 71 years to take place with a king as the monarch. Special badges have been commissioned to celebrate the King's Coronation which took place in May.
Orange parades will take place in Liverpool, Dingle and Southport. The main parades will move off from Netherfield Road and Corn Street in the Dingle around 9am on Wednesday morning.
The parades will make their way to the city centre and meet around the vicinity of Lime Street to board buses to Southport before forming up on London Street, Southport at approximately 11.15am. As per previous years, upon arriving in Southport, Liverpool parade members will be joined by others from all over England including Bootle, Manchester, Sunderland, London, Corby, Birmingham, Sussex and many more locations.
Senior officers from Scotland and Northern Ireland will also join the parade to celebrate the day which will see approximately 3,000 to 4,000 people on the streets of Southport. There is always a carnival atmosphere at the event.

A Halo themed aircraft installation will take place in Piccadilly Circus from 11:00pm until approximately 02:00am. The derig will take place on Sunday 17 July from 11:00pm- 05:00am.This is set for completion by Wednesday 20 July.

Official launch of ˜Summit of Stars' including the Paramount+ walk of Stars, an arial display of the West End. An augmented reality trail which is inclusive of Vinyl displays on Cranbourn, Bear and Coventry Streets.
Wednesday 22 June
The Paramount+ pop-up will be located in the old GAP store, underneath the Piccadilly Lights until Sunday 3 July. The event is open to the public. To reserve tickets, click here.

A family-friendly Sponge Bob Square Pants themed pop-up will be installed in Leicester Square Gardens from 06:00am. There are no street closures.

In 1902, more library and reading room space was needed. The Runcorn Free Library Committee applied to Andrew Carnegie to fund the extension. In 1904 Carnegie refused the grant as he believed the income of the Library Committee would not support larger premises. An amended application was made and Carnegie gifted £3,000 in November 1904 to erect a new public library stipulating that a site must also be given for the building. At a Runcorn Urban District Council meeting in June 1905 it was decided to carry out the plans for the library alteration and extension using the £3,000 gifted by Carnegie. The house was demolished in 1975 but the 4 acre walled garden was retained as a local amenity. English Partnerships refurbished much of the garden as part of their development of the area and new housing, working closely with the Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden Conservation Project charity, the Warrington Organic and Wildlife Gardening Society and the Woodland Trust.
Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council took ownership of the garden in 2005 and, with the help of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Friends of Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden, has developed the facility into a peaceful, well maintained and beautiful garden which is now a popular local visitor attraction and resource for horticulture, education and enjoyment.
The walled garden consists of two main areas, the fully working kitchen garden and the ornamental pleasure garden which are separated by a yew hedge. The garden is very unusual in that both the kitchen garden and pleasure garden are enclosed within a single, continuous sandstone wall. The site also includes a run of 8 fully refurbished Victorian glasshouses, several outbuildings, 3 ponds and a café in the central glasshouse space.

Ribblehead Viaduct is the longest and the third tallest structure on the Settle“Carlisle line.
The viaduct was designed by John Sydney Crossley, chief engineer of the Midland Railway, who was responsible for the design and construction of all major structures along the line. The viaduct was necessitated by the challenging terrain of the route. Construction began in late 1869. It necessitated a large workforce, up to 2,300 men, most of whom lived in shanty towns set up near its base. Over 100 men lost their lives during its construction. The Settle to Carlisle line was the last main railway in Britain to be constructed primarily with manual labour.

John Foxx And The Maths is a musical project featuring electronic music pioneers John Foxx and Benge. The duo were initially a studio based project working from Benge's studio in Shoreditch, London but have also engaged in live work. They specialise in the use of analogue synthesisers and drum machines and have released two albums, Interplay and The Shape of Things, both in 2011.
You will perhaps know John Foxx as a founder member of 1970's band Ultravox. In December 2009 the official John Foxx website Metamatic announced Foxx's new musical project. Benge had already broken the news on his own blog in November calling The Maths 'a new album project'.
An initial single Destination / September Town was released in December 2009 as download only from Townsend Records and later via i-tunes. The duo continued to work in Benge's studio in Shoreditch throughout 2010 and some new tracks were previewed at the Short Circuit electronic music festival held at The Roundhouse in London on 5 June 2010.
A new album entitled Interplay was announced in January 2011containing this track and released on March 21. The official website described the album as 'moody and atmospheric, but also full of songs that are actually more \u201dpop\u201d than avant garde, Interplay pulls various strands of electronic music together \u2013 from early electro to 70s Krautrock, even flashes of Cabaret Voltaire and Foxx\u2019s first band, Ultravox!'
The album gained much critical acclaim with The Quietus calling it 'one of the finest electronic records you will hear in 2011.

Weddings are big business and many people looking to tie the knot visit wedding catwalk shows in hotels etc, deciding how they are going to spend the average of over \u00a312K on their event and honeymoon. A cracking track from 1988's 'That Petrol Emotion'. They formed in 1984 from the ashes of the Derry Hitmakers, Bam Bam and the Calling and The Undertones. It was formed by guitarist John O'Neill and second guitarist Raymond Gorman who DJ'd together at the Derry 'Left Bank' club. Drummer and friend Ciaran McLaughlin joined next after having relocated from Derry to London, followed by John's brother and Undertones lead guitarist Damian O'Neill who played bass from 1985 until 1988 upon John's departure.
That Petrol Emotion themselves were also far more political and outspoken than the Undertones. 'Abandon' released on Virgin Records in March 1990 in the UK reached no. 73 in the single charts.

The Music burned like a short supernova. They were an English alternative rock band, formed Kippax, Leeds, in 1999. Comprising Robert Harvey (vox, guitar), Adam Nutter (lead guitar), Stuart Coleman (bass) and Phil Jordan (drums), the band came to prominence with the release of their debut album, The Music, in 2002.
The band released two further studio albums, Welcome to the North (2004) and Strength in Numbers (2008), before parting ways in 2011.
In January 2010, the band began demoing material for their fourth studio album. The album was due for release sometime 2011.
Harvey has since gone on to work with The Streets, collaborating on the album Computers and Blues. Mike Skinner of The Streets and Harvey also released a Christmas song in December 2010, called Scrooge And Marley \u2013 I Don't Want It To Be Me.
On March 31, 2011, The Music announced a series of farewell gigs on their website. The band will play three shows in Japan July 25\u201327. They are then scheduled for a show at Brixton Academy London, England on August 4, before bringing the curtain down on their career with two home town gigs at the O2 Academy in Leeds on 5 and 6 August.
On April 21, 2011 the band released the newest and final song of their career on their official website. 'Ghost Hands' was recorded for their now scrapped fourth studio album sessions

Under government plans, people who steal a canine companion could face up to five years in jail if convicted of dog abduction.
The offence is being added to the Kept Animals Bill, which is currently making its way through the Commons, after a recommendation by the government's pet theft taskforce in September.
The taskforce, launched in May, looked into a reported rise in pet thefts during the pandemic. More than 2,000 such incidents were reported to the police in 2020.
Dognapping remains the biggest issue, with around seven in 10 incidents of pet theft recorded by police involving dogs, according to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
The move has been welcomed by leaders from animal rights organisations.
Chief veterinary officer Dr Christine Middlemiss said it is an important step forward with dogs being treated as sentient beings rather than merely property.

It opened on 1 October 1976 in the basement of The Fruit Exchange in Victoria Street, with performances by The Runaways and The Sex Pistols (their only Liverpool gig) before soon moving around the block to its long-term site on Mathew Street opposite The Cavern Club where The Beatles and other bands of the 1960s played, and became notable for hosting early performances by many punk and post-punk bands.[1]
The club was started by Roger Eagle and Ken Testi (manager of cult Liverpool band Deaf School) and joined later by Pete Fulwell (owner of a small record label Inevitable and later to become manager of Liverpool bands It's Immaterial and The Christians). The club was given the name 'Eric's' by Ken Testi as an antidote to disco clubs with names such as 'Tiffany's' and 'Samantha's'
The club played host to many local, national and international bands primarily within the music sub-cultures of the time, such as Elvis Costello, Buzzcocks, The Clash, Joy Division, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Cardiacs, The Slits, Talking Heads, The Stranglers, Ultravox, Wire, XTC, X-Ray Spex and early gigs by New Order and Mick Hucknall (pre Simply Red).
The club acted as a catalyst for local musicians (often also from the Runcorn, Southport, Skelmersdale, Wirral areas) and saw many local artists later become successful acts, including Dead or Alive, Echo & the Bunnymen, Julian Cope, The Teardrop Explodes, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Ellery Bop and Wah!
