Description: Tony Smith image Alamy ED9D4A - . Mellis Cheesemonger Victoria St, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. Photographed at Victoria Street, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. The photograph was taken on 27 December 2014. The image metadata records 2 people in the frame. This editorial stock image documents the subject as it appeared at that time, preserving a clear record of the place, its appearance and the everyday details surrounding it. The scene is closely associated with Mellis Cheesemonger Victoria St, Edinburgh, Iain Mellis Cheesemaker, Mellis, Maker, Cheese, Cheesemonger, Cheesemaker, counter and Farmhouse, adding specific subject detail and useful search context without losing the documentary focus on the main subject. The photograph is useful for editorial coverage of eating out, restaurant culture, food presentation, hospitality and the way international cuisine has become part of everyday dining in British cities. Food, crockery, tableware, menus, serving dishes and restaurant surroundings can provide strong visual cues for features about cuisine, ingredients, dining habits, tourism, leisure spending and the hospitality economy. The image is documentary rather than studio food photography, giving it relevance to real-world restaurant reviews, travel features, local food guides and stories about consumer choice. It also records the appearance and presentation of a meal at a particular time and place, useful for archive, lifestyle and social-history contexts. Search themes include restaurant dining, cuisine, food presentation, hospitality, eating out, table settings, tourism, consumer lifestyle and the local food economy. Because this is a real meal in a real venue rather than a studio arrangement, it has particular value for travel, dining and social-history features. The combination of a named subject, precise location and capture date gives the image particular value to editors who need a real, identifiable place rather than a generic illustrative photograph.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DECWN0 - . Traditional Ale pumps at the Bow Bar, Victoria Street, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. The photograph was taken on 26 August 2013. The image metadata records 2 people in the frame. This editorial stock image documents the subject as it appeared at that time, preserving a clear record of the place, its appearance and the everyday details surrounding it. The scene is closely associated with Ale, pumps, the Bow Bar, Victoria St, Street, old town, brass, tap, taps and drip tray, adding specific subject detail and useful search context without losing the documentary focus on the main subject. Beyond the immediate subject, the scene is relevant to British pub culture, licensed premises, real ale, beer tourism and the continuing social role of the traditional public house. For picture buyers, the photograph can support editorial features about pubs and bars, hospitality, independent and managed venues, drinking culture, local heritage, city and town centres, leisure spending and the changing British high street. Details such as brewery branding, pub signage, entrances, windows, bar fittings, beer pumps or period architecture can provide useful visual evidence of how licensed premises present themselves to customers. The image also works as a record of everyday social history, documenting a familiar type of British hospitality venue at a particular moment in time rather than presenting an idealised studio view. Search themes naturally include British pub heritage, real ale and beer culture, licensed premises, hospitality, public houses, local drinking traditions and the role of pubs within town and city life. Where brewery names, pumps, windows, pub signs or period fittings are present, they add useful detail for features on brewing history, hospitality branding and traditional licensed interiors or exteriors. This particular view is catalogued under Alamy image reference DECWN0, distinguishing it from other photographs of the same or related subject.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4231716225 - 'The always welcoming Bow Bar in Victoria Street, Edinburgh (just before hitting the Grass Market). A constant fixture in the CAMRA good beer guide.
A truly compact place awash with old Tay ferry crossing timetables, metal signs and Beer/Whisky mirrors. A true one off and one of my watering holes whenever I get the chance to pop into the old town. Unfortunatly no longer has Cressers brush shop opposite.
This place is up there in the premier league of classic pubs with the Crown in Belfast, Philharmonic in Liverpool www.flickr.com/photos/hotpixuk/3804831303/ and the Circus Tavern in Manchester.
Happy New Year and Hogmanay to everyone who follows my photostream :-)

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DG38C5 - View from the foot of Victoria Street Edinburgh City Scotland UK at dusk Night Shot records a recognisable subject with enough local detail to make it useful for news, features and long-tail editorial searches. Victoria Street curves through Edinburgh's Old Town with colourful shopfronts, steep levels and dense historic character, making it one of the city's strongest visual symbols for tourism. At dusk the street becomes useful for stories about heritage streets, independent retail, Harry Potter tourism associations, night-time economy, visitor pressure and urban conservation. Low light, dusk or night conditions add atmosphere and make the subject useful for evening economy, safety and seasonal weather contexts. As a Edinburgh subject, it can support local-history, tourism, public-service and urban-change coverage where the place is as important as the object or activity shown. The details in victoria, street, edinburgh, night give the scene a stronger commercial life, especially for editors needing authentic texture rather than a symbolic cut-out.
