Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EJD0D5 - Photograph shows stock-photo/gotonysmith-Cheshire.html?sortBy=relevant&pseudoid=237DAF28-A4ED-4448-8173-C0E81ABEEC6F Target=_Blank>Cheshire Constabulary officers and marked police vehicles on Bridge Street in Warrington town centre late on a Saturday night, with patrol cars and a police van positioned in the road as crowds move through the night-time economy. The image captures a familiar British town-centre scene at closing time, with officers in high-visibility jackets ready to manage late-night revellers leaving pubs, bars and fast-food outlets, and to respond to incidents linked to alcohol, disorder, safeguarding, traffic control and public safety. The scene is lit by streetlights, vehicle headlights and the glow of shopfront signs, with the modern Time Square area and nearby leisure buildings visible in the background. The photograph has strong editorial value for stories about policing, anti-social behaviour, town-centre management, night-time economy policy, licensing, public order, youth drinking, community safety partnerships, emergency response and the pressures faced by police in medium-sized English towns. Warrington's Bridge Street has long been associated with pubs, clubs, takeaways and late-night footfall, making it useful for coverage of how local authorities, police forces, door staff, transport providers and licensed premises manage weekend nights. The image is also relevant for features on Cheshire Constabulary, visible policing, alcohol-related demand, police resources, CCTV, safer streets, women's safety at night, taxi ranks, dispersal at closing time and the balance between a successful leisure economy and public order concerns. For stock image buyers, the strength lies in the clear police presence, recognisable night street scene, marked vehicles, active officers, illuminated shops and visible pedestrians. It provides a realistic, unstaged visual shorthand for Saturday night policing in Warrington, showing how ordinary town centres require planned public safety operations when pubs and clubs turn out at midnight

The pink, blue and white van advertises freshly made ice cream, lollies, cones and Flannels, with visible social media icons and playful beachside branding. The sandy beach, sea wall, open water and pale coastal light place the scene firmly on Crosby seafront, a popular day-trip destination in the borough of Sefton. Crosby Beach is best known internationally for Antony Gormley's Another Place, the installation of 100 cast-iron figures spread along three kilometres of foreshore, but the everyday visitor experience also includes walking, photography, families, dog walkers, cyclists, promenade users and seasonal food traders. This image is useful for editorial coverage of British seaside culture, ice cream vans, mobile catering, small independent businesses, coastal tourism, family days out, Liverpool day trips, beach refreshments and the continuing appeal of simple seaside treats. The Soul Ice Cream Van has a local social media presence connected with Crosby Beach, while Liverpool visitor coverage describes it as a well-known beach ice cream van associated with classic 99s and lollies. The photograph also works for stories about the economics of seasonal trading, outdoor leisure, post-industrial coastlines, Merseyside tourism, independent food vendors and the way colourful vans become part of the character of a promenade. The dramatic sky, pale sand and parked van create a slightly nostalgic British coastal mood, with the vehicle's modern social media signs contrasting with the old-fashioned pleasure of buying ice cream by the sea. It is a strong documentary stock image for travel guides, local news, lifestyle features, food retail, tourism marketing, family holiday articles, small business profiles and coverage of Crosby Beach as both an art destination and an ordinary working seaside space.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3DGE73H - A Cadent Gas van and utility engineers are shown working to restore domestic gas supply on Chester Road in the village of Grappenhall near Warrington, Cheshire, during winter conditions with snow visible on the ground. The branded service vehicle displays the message Keeping you warm, reinforcing the role of gas infrastructure and frontline workers in maintaining essential household heating during cold weather. Engineers in high-visibility protective clothing are seen attending equipment beside the van, indicating active maintenance or emergency response work.
The winter setting, with frost and snow present in a residential area, highlights the vulnerability of households to gas supply interruptions during periods of low temperatures. Clear blue skies contrast with the cold conditions on the ground, while nearby homes emphasise the domestic impact of energy outages and the importance of rapid restoration. The image reflects the work of utility providers in ensuring public safety and continuity of essential services during challenging seasonal conditions.
Beyond its immediate subject, the photograph lends itself to wider editorial use in stories about energy security, the cost-of-living crisis, fuel poverty, winter resilience and the maintenance of critical national infrastructure. It also illustrates broader themes of frontline work, public service delivery and the role of utility companies in supporting communities during extreme weather. The absence of identifiable individuals and the clear branding make the image suitable for news coverage, policy discussions, housing and energy features, and general editorial use relating to winter, infrastructure and essential services in the United Kingdom.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EFEG1G - United Utilities sewer maintenance work in Grappenhall, Warrington, Cheshire, showing a branded green service van parked on a residential street with its side door open, safety equipment inside and a high visibility utility operative standing beside the vehicle. The image records everyday but essential infrastructure work carried out in suburban North West England, where water and wastewater services rely on inspection, repair, cleansing and maintenance of local drainage and sewer networks. Visible details include the United Utilities logo on the van, a traffic cone for roadside safety, work clothing, tools and equipment stored inside the vehicle, plus nearby homes, gardens and autumn coloured shrubs that place the activity firmly in a domestic neighbourhood setting. The photograph is useful for editorial stories about public utilities, sewer maintenance, wastewater infrastructure, drainage problems, blocked sewers, water company operations, street works, environmental services, public health infrastructure and the practical fieldwork behind household water and sewerage services. It also has value for coverage of the wider UK water sector, including investment in ageing infrastructure, sewer capacity, pollution prevention, service reliability, customer disruption, local authority street works and the visibility of essential workers in residential areas. The scene appears to be taken in cool daylight, likely autumn or early winter, with damp looking roads, muted garden colours and workers wearing warm high visibility clothing. The open van and roadside cone give the image a candid operational feel rather than a staged promotional view, making it suitable for documentary use. United Utilities is the water and wastewater company for the North West, which makes the image especially relevant to Warrington, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and Cumbria infrastructure stories, as well as broader features on privatised water companies, drainage maintenanc

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RX180W - Cadent Gas is a British regional gas distribution company that owns, operates and maintains the largest natural gas distribution network in the United Kingdom, transporting gas to 11 million homes and businesses across North West England, West Midlands, East Midlands, East of England and North London.
Cadent Gas Limited represents four of the eight gas distribution networks in the United Kingdom. The distribution network providers, one of which is Cadent Limited, are responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of the gas to the end consumer, on behalf of the chosen supplier.
The company does not produce or own the gas that passes through their pipeline networks but 50% of UK gas customers are served by their pipeline system.
The company also manages the national gas emergency service free phone line on behalf of the gas industry in the UK, taking calls and giving safety advice on behalf of the industry. In 2017/18 1.952 million gas emergency calls were answered.
The company invests in raising awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning through community and school initiatives as well as improving services to protect and support customers in vulnerable situations.
In 2017, the company launched a two-year fundraising partnership with Alzheimer's Society and committed to creating 1,000 Dementia Friends and also raising £100,000 company-wide for the charity. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RWW5NX - The Volkswagen Type 2, known officially (depending on body type) as the Transporter, Kombi or Microbus, or, informally, as the Bus (US), Camper (UK) or Bulli (Germany), is a forward control light commercial vehicle introduced in 1950 by the German automaker Volkswagen as its second car model. Following “ and initially deriving from “ Volkswagen's first model, the Type 1 (Beetle), it was given the factory designation Type 2.
As one of the forerunners of the modern cargo and passenger vans, the Type 2 gave rise to forward control competitors in the United States in the 1960s, including the Ford Econoline, the Dodge A100, and the Chevrolet Corvair 95 Corvan, the latter adapting the rear-engine configuration of the Corvair car in the same manner in which the VW Type 2 adapted the Type 1 layout.
The Volkswagen Westfalia Camper was a conversion of the Volkswagen Type 2, and then, the Volkswagen Type 2 (T3), sold from the early 1950s to 2003. Volkswagen subcontracted the modifications to the company Westfalia-Werke in Rheda-Wiedenbrück.
Early Volkswagen split-windshield Kombis were built between 1950 and 1967. Production of Volkswagen camper variants continued to 2003, and was based on the Kombi, then the Vanagon, then the LT Mk 1, then the Transporter. Other coachbuilders, including Dormobile, EZ Camper, ASI/Riviera, Holdsworth, Danbury Motorcaravans, and VW Sun-Dial, also built campers based on the Transporter.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R64T2G - This image shows the branding on a vehicle operated by Lancashire Boys & Girls Clubs, a long-established youth charity working across Lancashire. The logo features stylised figures in motion alongside the organisation's name, visually representing participation, inclusion, and youth development.
Lancashire Boys & Girls Clubs supports children and young people through a network of local clubs, volunteers, and partner organisations, offering activities focused on personal development, wellbeing, education, leadership, and sport. Vehicles such as this are used to support outreach work, enabling safe and reliable transport to events, training sessions, and organised activities.
The image highlights the operational side of the voluntary and community sector, where practical infrastructure such as transport plays a key role in widening access and removing barriers for young people. Clear charity branding also reinforces visibility, trust, and accountability within local communities.
Photographed in daylight, the image is well suited for editorial use illustrating UK youth services, charities, social mobility initiatives, and the role of voluntary organisations in supporting young people at a local and regional level.

Royal Mail workers poised for strikes after Easter as talks falter
CWU union lines up action as MP brands bosses' threat to put service into administration as ˜scandalous'
Postal workers at Royal Mail are poised to stage a fresh wave of strikes after Easter as talks stalled, amid a scandalous threat by bosses to put the company into administration.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU), which represents about 115,000 postal workers, is close to agreeing multiple strike dates to take place later in April, the Guardian understands, in the long-running dispute between the company and union. A formal announcement of the strike dates is expected this week.
Relations between Royal Mail executives and its workforce have been strained during the months-long dispute over pay and working practices. The situation escalated last night when the Guardian revealed the company's board has threatened to put the loss-making postal service “ the regulated UK entity that delivers to every address in the country “ into a form of government-handled administration if a deal could not be agreed

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K8C9NH - The Peel Group is a British infrastructure and property investment business, based in Manchester. In 2022, its Peel Land and Property estate extends to 13 million square feet (1.2 km2) of buildings, and over 33,000 acres (13,000 ha) of land and water. Peel retains minority stakes in its former ports business and MediaCityUK.
The Trafford Centre, which opened in 1998, is widely regarded as Peel's landmark development. It was sold in 2011 to Capital Shopping Centres for £1.6 billion, making it then the most expensive acquisition in British property history. £700 million of the consideration was in shares and Peel continued to buy shares in the purchaser that went into administration, eliminating share value, in 2020.
The Peel Group held a series of other substantial investments in listed businesses including Land Securities Group plc and Pinewood Shepperton plc, and in 2022 owns 14.1% of Harworth Group plc
The Peel Group was known from 1973 to 1981 as Peel Mills (Holdings) Ltd
from 1981 to 2004 as Peel Holdings plc, and then the wider organisation took its present form.
Inspired by the Peel Tower near his native Bury, Whittaker retained the name Peel Mills Ltd for his property and cotton business.
After a period on the Manchester Stock Exchange, Peel Holdings listed on the London Stock Exchange Official List in 1983. It transferred to the Alternative Investment Market in January 2000 before the Whittaker family and Olayan Group majority shareholders bought out Peel Holdings' 6.63% minority shareholders in 2004, taking the business private.
From 1971, Whittaker acquired shares in the Manchester Ship Canal Company that unlike most other British canals had not been nationalised post-World War II.
Peel sold its cotton business for £22 million to finance the purchase of more canal shares, and in 1987 acquired control. It bought out the remaining minority shareholders in 1993

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K3J77B - Ddocumentary stock photograph shows a red Royal Mail postal delivery van parked in a terraced residential street in Stockton Heath, South Warrington, Cheshire. The image captures the familiar Royal Mail livery on a small delivery vehicle beside brick terraced houses, front doors, pavement kerbs and a visible estate agent sold board, making it useful for editorial features on post, parcels, doorstep delivery, neighbourhood services, housing streets and everyday public service infrastructure. It also has strong current relevance for stories about Royal Mail ownership, postal reform, delivery performance and public concern about worsening service standards. Royal Mail's parent company, International Distribution Services, was taken over by EP Group, controlled by Czech billionaire Daniel KÅ™etÃnský, after a £3.6 billion deal that completed in 2025. The change brought renewed scrutiny of the future of the universal postal service, letter deliveries, parcel prioritisation and the balance between public service obligations and commercial logistics. Ofcom has repeatedly reported that Royal Mail missed key quality of service targets, including first class and second class delivery standards, and in 2026 opened a further investigation after first class delivery performance again fell below the regulatory target. The House of Commons Library has also summarised Royal Mail's poor recent performance against Ofcom targets, including first class mail delivered next working day and second class mail delivered within three working days. This local street scene can therefore illustrate wider national themes: delayed post, changes to delivery models, privatisation, foreign ownership, last-mile logistics, post for older or digitally excluded residents, small parcels from online shopping, regulated utilities, consumer frustration and the future of letter delivery. The overcast daylight, ordinary terraced housing and parked van give the picture a plain, credible editorial quality rathe

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JX2RPH - There are mainly two types of ice cream vans in the United Kingdom: a hard van, which sells scoop ice cream and is only equipped with a freezer and a soft van, which has a freezer and also a soft serve whippy machine for serving ice cream cones and screwballs. They are usually converted from factory standard vans with the rear cut away and replaced with a fibre glass body (to reduce the weight).
Because of the British climate, running an ice cream van profitably is not only very difficult outside summer, but is also an unpredictable business. A summer heatwave can provoke a massive upturn in fortunes for a few days, but after the weather has cooled sales drop off dramatically. The need to take advantage of rare and short-lived opportunities can result in fierce rivalry between ice cream vans in coterminous areas, with the main disputes being over who is entitled to sell ice cream in a particular 'patch'. This has also led to some ice cream van vendors diversifying and selling other products such as crisps, chips, burgers or hot dogs from their vehicles at other times of the year.
In a number of Local Authority areas, particularly in London Boroughs with existing street markets, street trading regulations prohibit ice cream vans from remaining in one static location. The legislation also contains powers to ban ice-cream vans from specific streets. Proposals in the current London Local Authorities Bill would allow only 15 minutes trading per vehicle per street each day. There also exists a nationwide code of practice for the use of chimes, which limits the volume to 80 dB and the duration to twelve seconds, but these are rarely observed nor enforced. Chimes must not be played more often than every three minutes, near hospitals, schools and churches when they are in use.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JG21Y9 - AA Limited, trading as The AA (formerly The Automobile Association), is a British motoring association.
Founded in 1905, it provides vehicle insurance, driving lessons, breakdown cover, loans, motoring advice, road maps and other services. The association demutualised in 1999, to become a private limited company, and from 2014 a public limited company (PLC). In 2002 the AA Motoring Trust was created to continue its public interest and road safety activities.
In 2021, a consortium led by Tower Brook Capital Partners and Warburg Pincus completed the acquisition of AA Limited (formerly known as AA PLC).
The Automobile Association was founded in 1905, to help motorists avoid police speed traps, in response to the Motor Car Act 1903 which introduced new penalties for breaking the speed limit, for reckless driving with fines, endorsements and the possibility of jail for speeding and other driving offences. The act also required drivers to hold a driving licence (which was obtained without a test on payment of five shillings at a post office) and to display a registration plate on their vehicle

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2X5K8H1 - This plain-speaking location image records FIX360 vans at Your Housing Group - Youggle House, Birchwood, Warrington,Cheshire,England, WA3 7QH. The row metadata places the subject at Youggle House, 130, Birchwood Boulevard, Warrington, Cheshire, England, UK, WA3 7QH. The spreadsheet date indicates 20 December 2020, so the picture can also work as a time-specific archive record. Housing-related imagery is in constant demand because it helps explain affordability, regulation, landlord services, resident pressure, repairs, asset management and the cost of living in a concrete visual way. Warrington sits between Liverpool and Manchester and is often used as a practical example of a North West town balancing commuter growth, older industrial roots, retail change, new development, road traffic, local services and community identity. The subject has particular value for social housing, resident services, asset management, repairs, rent pressure, leasehold reform, regulation and housing-policy reporting, especially where buyers need a grounded image rather than a generic housing-stock cliché. Because it is grounded in a named location and practical subject matter, it is useful for search-led editorial use, regional storytelling, business-to-business presentations, policy briefings and stock-photo buyers wanting evidence from the real world. Historically and socially, this kind of image can help connect past and present: older streets, civic institutions, transport systems, shops, signs, political messages or public services are not frozen museum pieces, but part of how people understand.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2A0TWP7 - Taunton Deane was a local government district with borough status in Somerset, England. Its council was based in Taunton.
The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by a merger of the Municipal Borough of Taunton, Wellington Urban District, Taunton Rural District, and Wellington Rural District.
Taunton Deane was granted borough status in 1975, perpetuating the mayoralty of Taunton.
The district was given the name of an alternative form of the Taunton Deane Hundred.
In September 2016, West Somerset and Taunton Deane councils agreed in principle to merge the districts into one (with one council) subject to consultation. The new district would not be a unitary authority, with Somerset County Council still performing its functions. In March 2018 both councils voted in favour of the merger and it came into effect on 1 April 2019, with the first elections to the new council in May 2019. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RMJ3AM - Cirencester, occasionally /ˈsɪstər/ (About this soundlisten)
see below for more variations) is a market town in east Gloucestershire, England, 80 miles (130 km) west northwest of London. Cirencester lies on the River Churn, a tributary of the River Thames, and is the largest town in the Cotswold District. It is the home of the Royal Agricultural University, the oldest agricultural college in the English-speaking world, founded in 1840. The town's Corinium Museum is well known for its extensive Roman collection. The Roman name for the town was Corinium, which is thought to have been associated with the ancient British tribe of the Dobunni, having the same root word as the River Churn. The earliest known reference to the town was by Ptolemy in AD 150.
The Church of St. John Baptist, Cirencester is renowned for its Perpendicular Gothic porch, fan vaults and merchants' tombs.
The town also has a Roman Catholic Church of St Peter's
the foundation stone was laid on 20 June 1895. Coxwell Street to the north of Market Square is home to the Baptist Church that was founded in 1651 “ making it one of the oldest Baptist churches in England. Its current building was started in 1856.
To the west of the town is Cirencester House, the seat of Earl Bathurst and the site of one of the finest landscape gardens in England, laid out by the first Earl Bathurst after 1714.
Abbey House, Cirencester was a country house built on the site of the former Cirencester Abbey following its dissolution and demolition at the English Reformation in the 1530s. The site was granted in 1564 to Richard Master, physician to Queen Elizabeth I. The house was rebuilt and altered at several dates by the Master family, who still own the agricultural estate. By 1897 the house was let, and it remained in the occupation of tenants until shortly after the Second World War. It was finally demolished in 1964.
On Cotswold Avenue is the site of a Roman amphitheatre.

others have on-board kitchens and prepare food from scratch, or they heat up food that was prepared in a bricks and mortar commercial kitchen. Sandwiches, hamburgers, french fries, and other regional fast food fare is common. In recent years, associated with the pop-up restaurant phenomenon, food trucks offering gourmet cuisine and a variety of specialties and ethnic menus have become particularly popular.[3] Food trucks may also sell cold beverages such as soda pop and water. Food trucks, along with portable food booths and food carts, are on the front line of the street food industry that serves an estimated 2.5 billion people every day

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HH1T4Y - It sounds so simple and so trendy. The Eat-Clean Diet is a lifestyle way of eating that allows you to eat more, weigh less, and become the healthiest you can be, says Tosca Reno, author of The Eat-Clean Diet series.
Not only will you lose about 3 pounds a week, you will see dramatic changes in the way you look and feel, Reno says.
Reno says that eating clean encourages a lifestyle approach of exercise and a diet plan of unprocessed, whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and no artificial ingredients, preservatives, chemically charged foods, sugars, saturated fat, and trans fat.
That means tomatoes are in, ketchup is out. We live in a chemical soup experiment. Processed foods have undermined our health, especially sugars, which are deadly anti-foods that have no place in our body, Reno says.
Plans range from 1,200-1,800 calories, eaten in 5-6 small meals throughout the day -- designed to fire up the metabolism. Practicing portion control helps dieters avoid the dreaded calorie counting.
The Eat-Clean Diet is a beautiful book with lots of pictures of delicious-sounding recipes with nutrition information, glossy pictures, sample meal plans, grocery lists, and more to help dieters get excited about eating a healthy diet and engaging in more physical activity.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DG386Y - An ice cream van (British) or ice cream truck (American) is a commercial vehicle which serves as a traveling retail outlet for ice cream, usually during the summer. Ice cream vans are often seen parked at public events, or near parks, beaches, or other areas where people congregate. Ice cream vans often travel near where children play ” outside schools, in residential areas, or in other locations. They usually stop briefly before moving on to the next street.
Ice cream vans are often brightly decorated and carry images of ice cream, or some other adornment, such as cartoon characters. They may have painted-on notices, which can serve a commercial purpose (Stop me and buy one!) or a more serious one (Don't Skid on a Kid!) - serving as a warning to passing motorists that children may run out into the road at the sight of the van, or appear without warning from behind it. Along the sides, a large sliding window acts as a serving hatch, and this is often covered with small pictures of the available products, with their associated prices.
A distinctive feature of ice cream vans is their melodic chimes, and often these take the form of a famous and recognizable tune, usually The Mister Softee Jingle, Turkey in the Straw, Do Your Ears Hang Low?, Pop Goes The Weasel The Entertainer, Music Box Dancer, Home on the Range, It's a Small World, Super Mario Bros. Theme or Camptown Races
or, in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Greensleeves, Whistle While You Work in Crewe and Nantwich, You Are My Sunshine in Vale Royal, Teddy Bears' Picnic in Sheffield, and Match of the Day in other places.
In some places in the US, ice cream trucks play the song Ice Cream by Andre Nickatina (essentially just Turkey in the Straw with bass).

\u00bfWhats this iPod Shuffle set all about? Read about it here
New Young Pony Club are a five-piece rock band from London, UK. They consist of now London-based vocalist Tahita Bulmer and producer Andy Spence. They shared a love of punk rock and dance music. The founding pair began writing together, originally only for Bulmer to perform.
Spence later assumed a larger role when they decided to form a proper band, so the duo recruited the single-monikered Lou on keyboards, Igor Volk on bass, and Sarah Jones on percussion. The band formed in 2005, and released two limited edition 7' singles ('The Get Go' and this track 'Ice Cream') on indie label Tirk Recordings. Later that year they were discovered by more established Australian label Modular Recordings, and signing a worldwide deal.
The band's name came from lead singer Bulmer's desire to be a part of a club or team at school. Her original idea for the band name was the more concise 'Pony Club', which she describes as 'quirky and kinky and fun'. A pre-existing Irish band had already claimed the name, and the prefix 'New Young' was added to reflect that the band are 'a newer, younger and kinkier Pony Club'. So now we know.

The Pier Head in Liverpool has gone through some transformations over the years. When back in the mid 1980's when I worked in the city centre it was part bus station and ferry terminal. The latter are mostly now for tourists, most locals taking the subway. Its now got a nice water feature and the concrete beefeater is now a swish Chinese eatery. A change for the better. On a sunny day, a nice place to enjoy an ice cream.....

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4774887884 - 'I don't know about you but I never look forward to that ritual of buying a car. There was no such ceremony when buying my first one, a green Vauxhall Viva 3 door hatchback from a family friend. Only \u00a3230 but it cost me in excess of that in filler to keep the wings safely stuck together.
Luckily I left the Citroen garage in Warrington in a relative state of relaxed karma after Steve Johnson here had relieved me of a \u00a3500 deposit. He was less relaxed as one of his business vans had just gone walkabout the previous day, on an east bound journey to Irlam on the A57. Its a 'pleasure - pain' thing I like to think!
How do celebs buy a car? Perhaps they have helpers and servants who just sort it. If you were Madonna you may well follow the Kabbalah example. If you are needing or thinking you want to change your car I have provided a simple extract from the good book. The magicians Kabbalah (rather than the Haynes manual):
'For example, an Oath taken as part of a car-buying ritual might begin 'The point of this work is to buy a car (Kether). I wish to buy a car with all the energy I have (Chockmah). I require the car to be a model most suitable to my needs (Binah). I seek a car which is affordable (Chesed) and for which I will be able to strike a good bargain for (Geburah),' and so on.'
So there it is. Although if you were looking for a Citroen van or car, you might try giving Steve a ring on 01925-853155.

I have been a regular customer of Ron (of Ron Snax, Outside catering available 01827-706191) for some time. The mis-spelt pricelist notwithstanding (Turkcy), he does a cracking job. \u00a32.40 buys you a bagette the size of two fists, packed with fried goodness. My only gripe is that he doesn't do black pudding, but that has never stopped me calling there. His litre of steaming tea or coffee also blows Costa away.
Rons does barms and soft bagettes. It always amazes me how short a distance you need to travel, for bread names to change so dramatically. It could be a bread-cake, teacake (obviously without fruit), a sub, barm, breadbun, cob, stotty, scone, buttery, flour cake or muffin. Using the wrong one can lead to a lot of confusion. Any more bread styles you know from across Britain, please leave a comment and let me know.
The old 'Greasy Spoon' in my opinion gets an unfair press. Wikipedia defines it as:
'Greasy spoon is a colloquial or slang term used in Britain, Ireland and North America for small, especially cheap, archetypal working class restaurants or diners. The name 'greasy spoon' is used to imply a less-than-rigorous approach to hygiene and dishwashing, and appears in use in the early 20th century'.
There have been a few stories, mainly hoaxes based on ficticious EU reports about eating habits of long distance drivers and their health. As any truck driver knows, the greatest hazard is infact 'Truck drivers testicle' caused by vibrations encountered over time from sitting over the tractor unit engine.
Thankfully, Rons position appears safe, although he did tell me that a new rating system is apparently coming in. So look out for his star rating, next time you are on the A46. Tell him HotpixUK sent you!

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy CF0MDD - Roadkill - A pheasant killed by a passing white van, A556 Chester to Manchester road. Cheshire , England, GB, United Kingdom UK.
Roadkill cuisine is preparing and eating roadkill, animals hit by vehicles and found along roads.
It is a practice engaged in by a small subculture in the United States, Southern Canada, the United Kingdom and other Western countries as well as in other parts of the world. It is also a subject of humor and urban legend.
Large animals including deer, moose, bear and elk are frequently struck in some parts of the United States, as well as smaller animals such as armadillos, raccoons, skunks and birds. Fresh kill is preferred and worms are a concern, so the kill is typically well cooked. Advantages of the roadkill diet, apart from its low cost, are that the animals that roadkill scavengers eat are naturally high in vitamins and proteins with lean meat and little saturated fat, and generally free of additives and drugs.
Almost 1.5 million deer are hit by vehicles each year in the US. If the animal is not obviously suffering from disease, the meat is no different from that obtained by hunting. The practice of eating roadkill is legal, and even encouraged in some jurisdictions, while it is tightly controlled or restricted in other areas. Roadkill eating is considered unglamorous and mocked in pop culture, as it is often associated with stereotypes of rednecks and uncouth persons

The Lion Salt Works is the last remaining open pan saltworks in Cheshire, England. It closed as a works in 1986 and is now preserved as a museum. The works is situated in Marston, near Northwich surrounded by salt flashes.
The museum failed to secure funding in the restoration TV show in 2004, however In March 2008 it was announced that the Heritage Lottery Fund had made an award of \u00a34.96m towards the \u00a37m total cost of the restoration project. so we might be seeing it in its former glory soon.
This area was the start of industrial mining of salt and saline processing for the soda ash and other industries that have developed in the area. The site is recognised as an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage. The pub over the road, The Salt Barge is a nice place to stop for a pint.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3DYWT2H - A green, fully liveried OVO Energy electric van is parked kerbside on a Scottish street, photographed in clean side profile against a pale stone built urban facade with modern windows. The wrap is dominated by the oversized OVO logo and clear net zero messaging, including Join us on the Path to Zero , On the road to better energy , and I'm electric! , making the vehicle both a working fleet asset and a moving billboard for decarbonisation. The image sits neatly at the junction of everyday streetscape and big policy themes: electrification of transport, corporate sustainability claims, and the practical reality of reducing tailpipe emissions in towns and cities.
As an energy supplier brand, OVO has marketed itself around greener energy and customer engagement, and a branded EV van like this signals fleet electrification as well as electricity's expanding role beyond the home. It also hints at the wider infrastructure behind the slogan: public charging networks, depot charging, smart scheduling, and the shift from petrol and diesel maintenance routines to battery health checks, tyres, and software updates. The bright green livery leans into familiar visual language of clean energy , while the plain, high contrast typography is designed to be readable at speed, in rain, or in low winter light, which suits Scotland's changeable conditions.
Editorially, the photograph works for stories about the UK energy market, green tariffs, ESG claims, net zero targets, and the slow, visible migration of commercial fleets to electric. It can also illustrate debates about consumer trust in sustainability messaging, the cost of the transition, and whether path to zero campaigns translate into measurable emissions reductions. The street context adds documentary value, placing climate themed branding into ordinary public space rather than a staged press photo. The van's quiet operation and zero exhaust emissions link to local air quality and noise reduction on streets

In 2008 Mitie continued its strategy through the acquisition of Catering Partnership and DW Tilley. The purchase of DW Tilley allowed Mitie to extend their roofing services nationwide. 2009 saw the acquisition of Dalkia Facilities Management for £130m[9] to bolster its Technical Facilities Management capability, and an expansion into social housing with the purchase of Environmental Property Services (EPS) for £38.5m.
