Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RWMEKW - Taken on 15 Sep 2023, this photograph shows Circle Vintage shop stained glass - Robe Makers to the University, Durham, 41 Saddler St, Durham, County Durham, England, UK, DH1 3NU. The picture is not just a record shot: it contains architectural or decorative detail with strong colour, lettering and religious, civic or commemorative symbolism. Saddler Street sits in Durham's historic core, and the robe-maker wording links modern vintage retail with the university city's ceremonial clothing, student life and traditional specialist trades. It could support features on pubs, beer, leisure, nightlife, tourism, heritage streets, local economies, independent hospitality and the pressures facing town-centre venues. For image buyers, the value is in the combination of recognisable subject, readable wording, location evidence and a plain documentary style that can be dropped into news, magazine, web, council, housing, transport, heritage or commercial commentary without looking over-produced. Searchable related phrases include secondhand, second, hand, vintage, store, Circle Vintage, Saddler Street, historic, Durham, stained glass, city, centre, plus wider ideas such as local identity, public realm, urban detail, social history, commercial change, everyday Britain, documentary photography and place-based storytelling. The composition gives designers scope for captions, page furniture, social media crops, report covers and article thumbnails, while the detailed captioning makes it more discoverable for searches using both specific place names and broader themes. The photograph should appeal to buyers looking for a grounded visual that says more than a studio icon, because it ties the subject to a real street, building, object or public setting. Further SEO-friendly usage could include local services, town-centre change, heritage branding, British social history

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RWMEN5 - The Durham University Library is the centrally administered library of Durham University in England and is part of the university's Library and Collections department. It was founded in January 1833 at Palace Green by a 160 volume donation by the then Bishop of Durham, William Van Mildert, and now holds over 1.6 million printed items. Since 1937, the university library has incorporated the historic Cosin's Library, founded by Bishop Cosin in 1669. Cosin's Library and the Sudan Archive held at Palace Green Library are designated collections under Arts Council England's Designation Scheme for collections of national and international significance
two collections at Durham University Oriental Museum
Cosin's Library was established in 1669 by Bishop John Cosin. The building was built in 166769 by the Quaker architect John Langstaffe specifically to house Cosin's collection of over 5,000 books.
Expansion on Palace Green
The university library initially used the new gallery installed in Cosin's Library. However, after it received Martin Routh's library in 1855 this space proved insufficient and it expanded into the upper floor of the Exchequer Building next door. Additional donations came from Bishop Edward Maltby in 1856 and Thomas Masterman Winterbottom in 1859.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R0MKPD - UCAS and Student Finance England application paperwork shown beside a tablet displaying the GOV.UK student finance login page, creating a clear editorial image about applying for university and further education funding in England. The visible screen text includes Student finance login and Get undergraduate student finance: step by step, while the surrounding envelopes show UCAS and SFE branding, linking the admissions process with the practical funding application that many students must complete before starting a course. Student finance in England can include a Tuition Fee Loan, paid directly to the university or college, and a Maintenance Loan to help with living costs such as rent, food, books and travel. GOV.UK describes the online student finance account as the place to apply for finance, track an existing application, check payment dates, update details, reset passwords and find customer reference numbers. UCAS also publishes guidance on student finance and says student finance provides government-backed loans to cover tuition fees and living costs. This photograph is useful for stories about university applications, student debt, tuition fees, maintenance support, widening participation, higher education policy, cost of living pressures, parents helping with applications, student administration, digital government services and the transition from school or college into higher education. The still life composition of tablet, login page, envelopes, binder clips and paperwork makes the image suitable for education features, money advice, UCAS deadline articles, clearing, student finance deadlines, evidence upload, household income assessment and public service access. With no people visible, it works as a flexible concept image for news, websites, university guides, sixth form advice, student support teams and policy reports about the financial barriers around higher and further education in the UK.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M84JCC - Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street (Irish: Sláinte Leanaí Éireann ag Sráid an Teampaill) is a children's hospital located on Temple Street, Dublin, Ireland. It is a teaching hospital of University College Dublin and Trinity College Dublin
The hospital was founded by Mrs. Ellen Woodlock and her close friend Sarah Atkinson at 9 Upper Buckingham Street in 1872. It had just 8 beds when it opened. In 1876, the growing success of the hospital prompted the governing committee to invite the Religious Sisters of Charity to take over the running of the hospital.
In May 1879 the lease at 9 Upper Buckingham Street expired and, with the help of a bequest, the sisters purchased the former home of the Earls of Bellomont at 15 Temple Street. Over the following years adjoining houses were purchased such as the residence of the Parnell family, number 14. The hospital expanded in the 1930s with help from the Irish Hospitals' Sweepstake.
A new nurses' home and a new x-ray department was officially opened by Minister of Lands, Seán Flanagan, in the presence of the President of Ireland, Éamon de Valera, in 1972.
In line with other teaching hospitals, the facility changed its name from the Children's Hospital, Temple Street to the Children's University Hospital, Temple Street in the late 1990s and changed its name again to the Temple Street Children's University Hospital in 2012
The hospital changed its name from Temple Street Children's University Hospital to Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street as part of the rebranding of three hospitals under the Children's Health Ireland banner on 1 January 2019

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M8DJF6 - The Library of Trinity College Dublin (Irish: Leabharlann Choláiste na Tríonóide) serves Trinity College and the University of Dublin. It is a legal deposit or copyright library, under which, publishers in Ireland must deposit a copy of all their publications there, without charge. It is the only Irish library to hold such rights for works published in the United Kingdom.
The Library is the permanent home to the Brian Boru harp which is a national symbol of Ireland, a copy of the 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic, and the Book of Kells. One of the four volumes of the Book of Kells is on public display at any given time. The volumes and pages shown are regularly changed
a new display case installed in 2020 will allow all pages to be displayed including many not seen in public for several decades
The Library proper occupies several buildings, six of which are at the Trinity College campus itself, with another part of the Trinity Centre at St James's Hospital, Dublin:
The oldest library building, now known as the Old Library, is Thomas Burgh's magnum opus. Construction began in 1712. A large building which took twenty years to complete in its original form, it towered over the university and city after its completion in 1732. Even today, surrounded by similarly scaled buildings, it is imposing and dominates the view of the university from Nassau Street. The Book of Kells is located in the Old Library, along with the Book of Durrow, the Garland of Howth and other ancient texts. Also incorporating the Long Room, the Old Library is one of Ireland's biggest tourist attractions and holds thousands of rare, and in many cases very early, volumes. In the 18th century, the college received the Brian Boru harp, one of the three surviving medieval Gaelic harps, and a national symbol of Ireland, which is now housed in the Library
The Library began with the founding of Trinity College in 1592. In 1661, Henry Jones presented it with the Book of Kells

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JHB6WY - King's College London (informally King's or KCL) is a public research university located in London, England. King's was established by royal charter in 1829 under the patronage of King George IV and the Duke of Wellington. In 1836, King's became one of the two founding colleges of the University of London. It is one of the oldest university-level institutions in England. In the late 20th century, King's grew through a series of mergers, including with Queen Elizabeth College and Chelsea College of Science and Technology (in 1985), the Institute of Psychiatry (in 1997), the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals and the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery (in 1998).
King's has five campuses: its historic Strand Campus in central London, three other Thames-side campuses (Guy's, St Thomas' and Waterloo) nearby and one in Denmark Hill in south London. It also has a presence in Shrivenham, Oxfordshire, for its professional military education, and another in Newquay, Cornwall, where its information service centre is based. Its academic activities are organised into nine faculties, which are subdivided into numerous departments, centres, and research divisions. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JHB6X4 - King's College London (informally King's or KCL) is a public research university located in London, England.
Description: Tony Smith image Alamy MNFTE1 - The John Rylands Library is a late-Victorian neo-Gothic building on Deansgate in Manchester, England. The library, which opened to the public in 1900, was founded by Enriqueta Augustina Rylands in memory of her husband, John Rylands. The John Rylands Library and the library of the University of Manchester merged in July 1972 into the John Rylands University Library of Manchester
today it is part of The University of Manchester Library.
Special collections built up by both libraries were progressively concentrated in the Deansgate building. The special collections, believed to be among the largest in the United Kingdom, include medieval illuminated manuscripts and examples of early European printing, including a Gutenberg Bible, the second largest collection of printing by William Caxton, and the most extensive collection of the editions of the Aldine Press of Venice. The Rylands Library Papyrus P52 has a claim to be the earliest extant New Testament text. The library holds personal papers and letters of notable figures, among them Elizabeth Gaskell and John Dalton.
The architectural style is primarily neo-Gothic with elements of Arts and Crafts Movement in the ornate and imposing gatehouse facing Deansgate which dominates the surrounding streetscape. The library, granted Grade I listed status in 1994, is maintained by the University of Manchester and open for library readers and visitors.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy H4EGB7 - At Granby Row, 2011, the grapes and raspberries have been restored with the grapes changing from red to green to reflect the ingredients of Vimto, while the blackcurrants have been replaced. A new wooded barrel has been constructed to replace the bottom of the Vimto bottle and new labels have been carved and painted.
The monument was first carved by Kerry Morrison and installed in Granby Row in 1992. Granby Row is the site of the factory where the first batch of Vimto was made by John Noel Nichols back in 1908.
After 19 years of the Manchester weather and attention from city revellers, the monument was in need of a refresh and it has been brought back to its former glory by Nick Lumb at Acorn Furniture in Wrexham.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy GMAACD - Robert Gordon's College is a private co-educational day school in the heart of Aberdeen, Scotland. The school caters for pupils from Nursery through to S6.
It originally opened in 1750 as the result of a bequest by Robert Gordon, an Aberdeen merchant who made his fortune from trading with Baltic ports, and was known at foundation as Robert Gordon's Hospital. This was 19 years after Gordon had died and left his estate in a 'Deed of Mortification' to fund the foundation of the Hospital. The fine William Adam-designed building was in fact completed in 1732, but lay empty until 1745 until Gordon's foundation had sufficient funds to complete the interior. During the Jacobite rising, in 1746 the buildings were commandeered by Hanoverian troops and named Fort Cumberland.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy FDNKB8 - The John Rylands Library is home to one of the world's richest and most unique collections - around 1.4 million items spanning over five thousand years and derived from all corners of the world.
John Cassidy created two matching statues, in white Saravezza marble, of John Rylands and Mrs Rylands, which stand guard over the two ends of the Library's Historic Reading Room. John Rylands (1801 - 1888) occupies a prominent position at one end, and Mrs Rylands presides over the other, near to what used to be the Library's service counter. The picture above dates from 2003.
Although the statues appear as a pair, they were not conceived or commissioned together. 'John Rylands' was commissioned by Mrs Rylands in 1894 as an integral part of the library dedicated to her late husband, and has had pride of place since the building opened in 1900, whilst her own likeness was commissioned by supporters of the Library, and unveiled on 9 December 1907, a few months before her death on 4 February 1908.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F1J8BF - Pan Am Flight 103 was a regularly scheduled Pan Am transatlantic flight from Frankfurt to Detroit, via London and New York, that was destroyed by a terrorist bomb on Wednesday, 21 December 1988, killing all 243 passengers and 16 crew on board, in what became known as the Lockerbie bombing. Large sections of the aircraft crashed onto residential areas of Lockerbie, Scotland, killing 11 more people on the ground.
Following a three-year joint investigation by Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, arrest warrants were issued for two Libyan nationals in November 1991. In 1999, Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi handed over the two men for trial at Camp Zeist, Netherlands after protracted negotiations and UN sanctions. In 2001, Libyan intelligence officer Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was jailed for life after being found guilty of 270 counts of murder in connection with the bombing. In August 2009, he was released by the Scottish Government on compassionate grounds after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. He died in May 2012, remaining the only person to be convicted for the attack. He had continually protested his innocence.
In 2003, Gaddafi accepted responsibility for the Lockerbie bombing and paid compensation to the families of the victims, although he maintained that he had never given the order for the attack. During the Libyan Civil War, in 2011, a former government official claimed that the Libyan leader had personally ordered the bombing. Numerous conspiracy theories have developed regarding responsibility for the destruction of Pan Am Flight 103.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F1J8C9 - Pan Am Flight 103 was a regularly scheduled Pan Am transatlantic flight from Frankfurt to Detroit, via London and New York, that was destroyed by a terrorist bomb on Wednesday, 21 December 1988, killing all 243 passengers and 16 crew on board, in what became known as the Lockerbie bombing.

Numerous conspiracy theories have developed regarding responsibility for the destruction of Pan Am Flight 103.

a row of 17 busts of men known as the Emperor Heads, The Oxford Emperors, or, sometimes The Twelve Apostles.
The first mention of the busts as Emperor Heads came in 1911 in the novel Zuleika Dobson, by Max Beerbohm. Despite the name, the busts do not represent ancient emperors, nor, indeed, anyone in particular.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K5J0BN - The Radcliffe Camera (colloquially known as the Rad Cam or The Camera
from Latin camera, meaning 'room') is a building of the University of Oxford, England, designed by James Gibbs in neo-classical style and built in 173749 to house the Radcliffe Science Library. It is sited to the south of the Old Bodleian, north of the Church of St Mary the Virgin, and between Brasenose College to the west and All Souls College to the east. The Radcliffe Camera's circularity, its position in the heart of Oxford, and its separation from other buildings make it the focal point of the University of Oxford, and as such it is almost always included in shorthand visual representations of the university. The Radcliffe Camera is not open to the public.
The library's construction and maintenance was funded from the estate of John Radcliffe, a physician who left £40,000 upon his death in 1714. According to the terms of his will, construction only began in 1737, although the intervening period saw the complex purchase of the site. The exterior was complete in 1747 and the interior finished by 1748, although the library's opening was delayed until 13 April 1749.
Upon its completion, Francis Wise was appointed as its first librarian. Until 1810, the library housed books covering a wide range of subjects, but under George Williams it narrowed its focus to the sciences. Williams brought the library from a state of neglect up to date, although by 1850 the Radcliffe Library still lagged behind the Bodleian. It was at this point that Henry Wentworth Acland, then librarian, laid out plans for the Radcliffe Library building to merge with the university and the library's collection of books to be moved to the newly constructed Radcliffe Science Library, which were accepted by the library's trustees and the university. It was at this point that the building became known as the Radcliffe Camera, serving as a reading room for the Bodleian.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DJ7B80 - Fred Smith and Tom Verlaine of the New York band Television performing live at Manchester Academy on 17 November 2013, with Smith on bass at the left of the image and Verlaine playing electric guitar to the right. The photograph captures a rare UK appearance by one of the most influential groups to emerge from the 1970s New York punk and new wave scene centred on CBGB. Television's 1977 debut album Marquee Moon is widely regarded as a landmark record for its interlocking guitars, long instrumental passages, lean rhythm section and tense, poetic alternative rock sound. In this Manchester concert image, the dark stage, amplifiers, microphones, coloured lights and concentrated playing style give the picture strong editorial value for music journalism, live review features, archive coverage, rock history, post-punk, art rock and alternative music culture. Alamy's own listing for this event records Television in concert at Manchester Academy on 17 November 2013 with Fred Smith on bass, Tom Verlaine and Jimmy Rip on guitars. Guitar World also used a Manchester Academy 2 performance image from the same date in its obituary coverage of Verlaine, noting his importance as Television's influential guitarist. The image can illustrate stories about New York music, CBGB legacy, guitar bands, veteran performers, cult albums, live music venues, touring musicians and Manchester's strong gig-going culture. It is also relevant after Verlaine's death in January 2023, giving the photograph additional archive and obituary value. The visible instruments, stage equipment, black backdrop and two senior musicians create a documentary live music scene suited to editorial use, fan culture, venue histories and features on the continuing influence of Television on indie, punk, post-punk and alternative guitar music

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DJ7B86 - Television is an American rock band, formed in New York City in 1973 and credited as highly influential and seminal.
Television was part of the 1970s New York rock scene, along with musical acts like the Patti Smith Group, The Ramones, Blondie, Richard Hell, and Talking Heads.
Although they recorded in a raw manner similar to their contemporaries, minimalizing the use of studio techniques, sound effects and atypical instruments, Television's music was unique and technically proficient, defined by guitarists Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd. The group's debut album, Marquee Moon, is often considered one of the defining releases of the punk era.
Jimmy Rip is an American guitarist, songwriter and record producer, who is known for his work with Jerry Lee Lewis, Mick Jagger, Debbie Harry, Michael Monroe, Henry Lee Summer and the former Television band leader Tom Verlaine.
Rip began playing guitar at the age of six.
In 1986, Rip worked as a session musician on Alphaville's album, Afternoons in Utopia.
He worked with Jagger on his solo album Wandering Spirit and released his first solo album in 1997, called Way Past Blue.
In 2006, Rip worked as a producer and guitarist with Jerry Lee Lewis for his album Last Man Standing. A year later, he joined Television after the departure of their second guitarist Richard Lloyd. Since then, he has been working on a new album with Television, and on a second solo effort. In 2009, after the South American and European tour he completed work on the debut album of the Croatian rock band, Voodoo Lizards.

Lester Bangs heard in Television's music the influence of Quicksilver Messenger Service, noting a similarity between Verlaine's guitar playing and that of John Cipollina.[3] Tom Verlaine has downplayed the comparison, citing the Ventures as a more apt reference point. In 2004, Robert Christgau pointed to the debt that Television owed to the San Francisco scene of the late 1960s, directly comparing Verlaine's guitar playing to that of Jerry Garcia

The land occupied by the development was part of the Port of Manchester and Manchester Docks.
The BBC signalled its intention to move jobs to Manchester in 2004, and the Salford Quays site was chosen in 2006. The Peel Group was granted planning permission to develop the site in 2007, and construction of the development, with its own energy generation plant and communications network, began the same year. Based in Quay House, the principal tenant is the BBC, whose move marks a large-scale decentralisation from London. BBC Children's, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Research and BBC Sport are among the departments which have relocated to the development. ITV Granada completed the first phase of its move to MediaCityUK in March 2013. The Studios on Broadway house seven high-definition studios, claimed to be the largest such facility in Europe.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy D8HWM7 - August, always a mad busy crazy time in Edinburgh, during the festival and fringe, which seems to have grown even bigger than the tattoo and festival. There's no shortage of scaryness and satire here!.
Echo and Narcissus @ Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2012. From Rag and Bone Productions the Venue was theSpace on North Bridge. It was on until 18th August 2012 @ venue 36.
As the review says, Sometimes it is hard to tell image from reality until the illusion is shattered at the tap of a finger. Durham University's Rag & Bone Productions use an exciting combination of physical theatre, drama and dance to bring you this dark and innovative take on a classic Greek myth. The tragic story of Echo and Narcissus follows the disastrous consequences of a man falling in love with his own reflection. Rag & Bone successfully fuse visual spectacle with the best of storytelling to explore this tale of hurt, rejection, pride and vanity. Not to be missed!
Narcissus, is a young man blessed with untold beauty, who spurns all amorous advances, be they from citizens, nymphs, or just about anyone who can appreciate the beauty of the perfect human form. Meanwhile, talkative forest nymph Echo is tasked by Zeus to distract his wife Hera with incredible stories while he has an affair. Hera finds out and curses Echo to be able to repeat only the ends of sentences spoken to her (hence her name, Echo).
She runs into Narcissus in a forest, he rejects her fumbled echoes and she wastes away until she is nothing but a voice. Narcissus rejects one final advance of an older man by the name of Ameinus and mocks him for his futile attempts, daring him to kill himself. Ameinus does so, but curses Narcissus beforehand, resulting in Artemis bewitching Narcissus to fall in love with the next person he sees.
As he is hunting in the woods, he stops to rest by a quiet pool in a grassy clearing and falls in love with his own reflection. At a loss, he plunges in to reach the young man but drowns. A s

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 6257792313 - 'On Saturday I had the pleasure of seeing one of my favourite newer bands.
I first picked up on the track 'Austere' from a music blog I follow called burningworld.blogspot.com/
I espechially like the PodFodder compilations there, that are now up to no 132. There is always some gold nuggets lurking in them and this band are one of them.
The Joy Formidable released 'Austere' as a single in July 2008, followed by 'Cradle' on double 7' later that summer, and quickly produced an eight-track EP, A Balloon Called Moaning, which they released themselves in the UK in early 2009. Also in 2009 Justin Stahley was replaced by Matt Thomas on drums. Having relocated to London, the trio quickly earned a reputation for blistering live performances.
'We love and encourage the beautiful double-pedal,' says Bryan, with a chuckle. 'We do lean towards a slightly metal aesthetic when it comes to drums, which makes it very loud and heavy and all the things we want to be as a live entity. The new album definitely explores those elements, and that's because of Matt being in the band.'
The trio spent 2009 touring the UK, Europe and Australia with bands including Editors, Temper Trap and Passion Pit, mastering tiny clubs and festival stages alike. Their introduction to American audiences came when Passion Pit invited The Joy Formidable to open a pair of sold-out shows at New York's Terminal 5.
In summer 2010, the band signed with Canvasback Records, and released their cracking debut album 'The Big Roar', on 24 January 2011. The band worked on writing and tracking the material for the album when they weren't on the road.
In 2011, the band opened up the main stage at the Reading and Leeds festivals on the Saturday and Sunday respectively. In August 2011, they also opened up for Foo Fighters at a secret show at The Metro the night before they played an opening slot at Lollapalooza.
At the Academy gig, which was absolutely buzzing, they announced that the next album was in the offing, and despite some shouts of abuse, Rhydian would not remove his hat!

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2BTY79M - John Cooper Clarke (born 25 January 1949) is an English performance poet who first became famous during the punk rock era of the late 1970s when he became known as a punk poet. He released several albums in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and continues to perform regularly.
His recorded output has mainly relied on musical backing from the Invisible Girls, which featured Martin Hannett, Steve Hopkins, Pete Shelley, Bill Nelson, and Paul Burgess.
Clarke was born in Salford, Lancashire, in 1949. He lived in the Higher Broughton area of the city and became interested in poetry after being inspired by his English teacher, John Malone
In 1979 he had his only UK top 40 hit with Gimmix! (Play Loud). Clarke toured with Linton Kwesi Johnson, and has performed on the same bill as bands such as the Sex Pistols, the Fall, Joy Division, the Buzzcocks, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Elvis Costello, Rockpile and New Order (including at their May 1984 Music for Miners benefit concert at London's Royal Festival Hall). His set is characterised by lively, rapid-fire renditions of his poems, usually performed a cappella. Often referred to as the bard of Salford, he usually refers to himself on stage as Johnny Clarke, the name behind the hairstyle.
Clarke appeared in a 1982 music documentary compilation Urgh! A Music War, in which he performed his poem Health Fanatic. The film featured live performances of mainstream artists (the Police, the Go-Go's, XTC, Devo) as well as more obscure bands (Pere Ubu, Invisible Girls, the Alley Cats, Athletico Spizz '80, Chelsea) using concert footage from around the world. He also starred in another 1982 film titled John Cooper Clarke - Ten Years in an Open Necked Shirt directed by Nick May and produced for the Arts Council of Great Britain and Channel 4. Somewhere between a narrative film, a series of music videos and a documentary, the film features interviews and performances by Clarke and Linton Kwesi Johnson among others.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 5903757821 - 'The timeless Johnny Clark ('the name behind the Hairstyle'), the Bard of Salford with his ring bound scribblings, on stage at the Stanley Theatre. He was on a bill with 'The Temps' and Mark E Smiths 'The Fall'.
He had changed little since I first saw him at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in 1978, although he is now pushing 62.
His early work, including the essential 'Disguise In Love' used backing from 'The Invisible Girls', which featured Martin Hannett, the producer. Clarke was born in Salford, Lancashire in 1949. His first job was a laboratory technician at the University of Salford. He began his performance career in Manchester folk clubs, where he began working with Rick Goldstraw and his band The Ferrets. His first releases were on the independent label Rabid, starting with the EP Innocents in October 1977. He toured with Bill Nelson's band Be-Bop Deluxe in 1978 and was signed by Epic Records, who issued the Nelson-produced debut album Disguise In Love in 1978.
Sadly, he spent much of the 1980s addicted to heroin, living in a 'domestic partnership' with singer and fellow addict Nico (of the Velvet Underground). He made an appearance in two UK adverts for Sugar Puffs in 1988, taking second billing to the Honey Monster. Quite often these days he takes second billing from MES and The Fall.
His set included Beasley St, the updated Beasley Boulavard (now the poem has had some investment from Urban Splash), Chicken Town, Hire Car and the brilliant 'Bongos Trousers'. This is a satirical take on the effects of U2's Bono struggling to save the world and have an audience with the pope minus his kecks.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy D8HDBH - The John Rylands Library is a late-Victorian neo-Gothic building on Deansgate in Manchester, England. The library, which opened to the public in 1900, was founded by Enriqueta Augustina Rylands in memory of her husband, John Rylands.[4] The John Rylands Library and the library of the University of Manchester merged in July 1972 into the John Rylands University Library of Manchester. Special collections built up by both libraries were progressively concentrated in the Deansgate building.
The special collections, believed to be among the largest in the United Kingdom,[5] include medieval illuminated manuscripts and examples of early European printing, including a Gutenberg Bible, the second largest collection of printing by William Caxton,[6] and the most extensive collection of the editions of the Aldine Press of Venice.[7] The Rylands Library Papyrus P52 is believed to be the earliest extant New Testament text.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy CET1CC - The Jodrell Bank Observatory (originally the Jodrell Bank Experimental Station, then the Nuffield Radio Astronomy Laboratories from 1966 to 1999
/ˈdʒɒdrəl/) is a British observatory that hosts a number of radio telescopes, and is part of the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Manchester. The observatory was established in 1945 by Sir Bernard Lovell, a radio astronomer at the University of Manchester who wanted to investigate cosmic rays after his work on radar during the Second World War. It has since played an important role in the research of meteors, quasars, pulsars, masers and gravitational lenses, and was heavily involved with the tracking of space probes at the start of the Space Age. The managing director of the observatory is Professor Simon Garrington.
The main telescope at the observatory is the Lovell Telescope, which is the third largest steerable radio telescope in the world. There are three other active telescopes located at the observatory
the Mark II, as well as 42 ft (13 m) and 7 m diameter radio telescopes. Jodrell Bank Observatory is also the base of the Multi-Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network (MERLIN), a National Facility run by the University of Manchester on behalf of the Science and Technology Facilities Council.
The site of the observatory, which includes the Jodrell Bank Visitor Centre and an arboretum, is located in the civil parish of Lower Withington (the rest being in Goostrey civil parish), near Goostrey and Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, North West England. It is reached from the A535. An excellent view of the telescope can be seen by travelling by train, as the main line between Manchester and Crewe passes right by the site, with Goostrey station being only a short distance away.

Nitin Sawhney is a British indian musician, producer and composer. His critically-acclaimed work combines Asian and other worldwide influences with elements of jazz and electronica and often explores themes such as multiculturalism, politics and spirituality. This is evident in the London Undersound recordings. This explores the experience of the Al-Qaeda's claimed London bombings of 7th July 2005.
Particularly the track 'Days of Fire' evokes that fear and terror of the tube attack 'First came the flash of lights, then explosion'
