The event is organised by Rotary Warrington, with all profits from the festival going to good causes.
A must-visit for beer aficionados, the festival will include dozens of speciality brews, imported ales, and drinks of varying strengths and tastes.
There will also be a gin and fizz bar, a cider bar, and a driver's bar available during the event, too.
Warrington Oktoberfest will be held at Parr Hall between October 12-14.
There will be traditional Oktoberfest-style food available throughout the event, which is set to be supplied by Warrington's 'best for burgers 2023' Cafe at the End of the Universe.
Speaking to the Warrington Guardian, one of the event's organisers - Samantha Bridger - said that the whole group has been 'blown away' by the support provided by sponsors of the event.
She said: All our sponsors are amazing, and they help with everything from the set up, to equipment, money, and even the racking used for beer kegs.
In terms of ticket costs, Samantha said: We are delighted to say that tickets are £10, which we think is phenomenally cheap, and we're selling them in advance - which includes a small booking fee.
Tickets will be available on the door, too, if we have any left.

It has also been announced that drinks can be purchased via a token system.
For any cask ale that is marked at less than five per cent alcohol content, it costs one green token per half pint.
Ales marked as stronger than five per cent cost one yellow token per half pint.
No-alcohol drinks, plus prosecco and gins are marked at costing one yellow token.
For £10, attendees will receive five green tokens, or 11 tokens for £20.

It owes much to the Royal Crescent in Bath, but has been described by the Royal Institution of British Architects as more richly decorated and altogether more complex. It was designed by the architect John Carr of York, and built for the 5th Duke of Devonshire between 1780 and 1789. In 2020, following a multi-year restoration and redevelopment project supported by the National Heritage Memorial Fund and Derbyshire County Council, The Crescent was reopened as a 5-star spa hotel.
St Ann's Well
The Crescent faces the site of St Ann's Well, where warm spring water has flowed for thousands of years. The well is at the foot of The Slopes, a steep landscaped hillside in the centre of Buxton. Here the geological strata channel mineral water from a mile below ground, to emerge at a constant 27.5 °C (81.5 °F).
Originally detached, the Crescent is now the centrepiece of an attached range of significant Georgian architecture facing The Slopes, flanked on either side by the Grade-II-listed Buxton Baths, built by architect Henry Currey. To the west are the Natural Mineral Baths, built 185153

The Crescent was built for William Cavendish, the 5th Duke of Devonshire, as part of his scheme to establish Buxton as a fashionable Georgian spa town. The facade forms an arc of a circle facing south-east. It was built as a unified structure incorporating a hotel, five lodging houses, and a grand assembly room with a fine painted ceiling.

The Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell and the Bishop of Leeds, Nick Baines will be at Ripon Cathedral on October 16 for the culmination of the cathedral's 1350th anniversary celebrations.
A ledger stone, honouring the cathedral's founding father St Wilfrid, will be dedicated by Archbishop Stephen at the end of a service that will have celebrated the incredible life and mission of St Wilfrid of Ripon.
Throughout this year, in marking the 1350th anniversary of the dedication of Ripon's crypt by St Wilfrid, the cathedral community has been telling the story of this remarkable missionary bishop with art installations, son et lumieres, lectures and worship.
Wilfrid, a man of great vision, motivation, courage and faith, not only built up the church and brought countless people to faith but also helped the church on the fringes of Europe become more up to date and better connected. This became symbolized in the way he brought Roman influence to bear on the building of a stunning church in Ripon.
The ledger stone has been laid under the central tower, above the crypt dedicated by St. Wilfrid in 672AD and somewhere near where our founding saint was buried. The crypt is the oldest built fabric of any English cathedral.
The stone has been created by letter carver Charlotte Howarth from Making Marks in Norfolk, who worked round the clock for four weeks to complete the work on time. Charlotte's previous projects include the carving of the gilt lettering into the oak for the Remember Me memorial portico entrance at St Paul's Cathedral, dedicated to those who died as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Carving the ledger stone for Ripon Cathedral was highly skilled and physically demanding work, using an extremely hard stone called Stanhoe Framp. Charlotte said: You become emotionally involved with a project when you work on it.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RH8AGM - The Cathedral Church of St Peter and St Wilfrid, commonly known as Ripon Cathedral, and until 1836 known as Ripon Minster, is a cathedral in Ripon, North Yorkshire, England. Founded as a monastery by monks of the Irish tradition in the 660s, it was refounded as a Benedictine monastery by St Wilfrid in 672. The church became collegiate in the tenth century, and acted as a mother church within the large Diocese of York for the remainder of the Middle Ages. The present church is the fourth, and was built between the 13th and 16th centuries. In 1836 the church became the cathedral for the Diocese of Ripon. In 2014 the Diocese was incorporated into the new Diocese of Leeds, and the church became one of three co-equal cathedrals of the Bishop of Leeds.
The cathedral is notable architecturally for its gothic west front in the Early English style, considered one of the best of its type, as well as the Geometric east window. The seventh-century crypt of Wilfrid's church is a significant example of early Christian architecture in England. The cathedral has Grade I listed building status.
Saint Wilfrid was buried in this church near the high altar. Devastated by the English king Eadred in AD 948 as a warning to the Archbishop of York, only the crypt of Wilfrid's church survived but today this tiny 7th-century chapel rests complete beneath the later grandeur of Archbishop Roger de Pont l'Evêque's 12th century minster. A second minster soon arose at Ripon, but it too perished this time in 1069 at the hands of William the Conqueror. Thomas of Bayeux, first Norman Archbishop of York, then instigated the construction of a third church, traces of which were incorporated into the later chapter house of Roger's minster
The minster finally became a cathedral (the church where the Bishop has his cathedra or throne) in 1836, the focal point of the newly created Anglican Diocese of Ripon the first to be established since the Reformation

Standing on the corner of East Parade and Station Avenue in the North Yorkshire town of Harrogate is arguably one of Britain's finest Modernist cinema buildings. Today, the building survives as part of the Odeon cinema chain after eight decades of continuous use as a working cinema.
The Odeon company traces its history back to 1930 when the firm established by Oscar Deutsch (1893-1941) opened its first cinema bearing the Odeon name, at Perry Barr in Birmingham, on 4 August 1930. The company saw its greatest period of expansion during the 1930s, as the increasing popularity of cinema-going allowed Deutsch to open in excess of 250 cinemas prior to the Second World War.
Like the majority of Odeon's cinemas, the Odeon Harrogate was built in the Streamlined Moderne style and was a product of the Weedon Partnership. Harry Weedon (1887-1970) became involved with the Odeon chain in 1934 and his company produced designs for some of the finest buildings of the period.
The dominant feature of the Odeon Harrogate's design is a central brown-brick tower, with a projecting, taller 'fin' clad in biscuit-coloured faience tiles. At the top of the fin 'cinema' is spelt out in slender, sans-serif lettering. The tower is set in front of the main auditorium, of which the uppermost section is visible behind the tower. The top section is broken with projecting bands of darker brown brick, and the bands continue down the face of the tower on its southern face.
The northern range of the cinema (to the left when viewed face-on) comprises a five-bay, four-storey block clad in the same biscuit-coloured faience, save for the base of the building, which is clad in black faience. The faience tiles are rectangular and are set in pairs horizontally, with thin joints between the paired tiles, and thicker, more prominent horizontal joints

YMCA Warrington has been forced to close its doors after more than 160 years in the town because it has 'no sustainable funding'.
The charity, on Winmarleigh Street, has faced repeated closure threats since financial resources were cut last year.
Generous residents and organisations were hailed after helping the organisation, which opened its doors in the town in 1855, smash its £40,000 fundraising target in 2016.
However, despite the support from across the borough, along with many grant applications, the battle has sadly been lost.
Chairman Cllr Graham Welborn praised centre manager Susan Blyth for her 'inspirational efforts' and said he wants the closure to mark a 'time to look back and celebrate the achievements' of the charity.
He added: YMCA are having to cease their work because we have no sustainable funding.
Therefore, we have had to take the decision to close at the optimum point that it is still possible to settle all our liabilities and responsibilities.
It has been a very hard and difficult decision to make.
It is with a heavy heart that we have come to this decision after reviewing all the options.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank our staff for their dedication and loyal service.
The quality of service and safety of all our users has always been our priority.
Our staff are currently providing day services from Room at the Inn.
They need time and space to do what they do best and to continue to offer care, advice and practical help.

Step into The Lower Angel, and immediately you know you're in a real' pub. This charming and unspoilt building on Buttermarket Street is as traditional as it gets. The curious name stems from the now-demolished Higher Angel that stood next door.
It's an often-heard complaint that real pubs are no longer. In a world where the big chains dominate, it's a joy to find a gem like this. It's got it all: a friendly bunch of regulars, excellent bar staff, and a fine selection of beers.
For a real ale drinker like myself, this is the ideal place to enjoy a few pints on a Friday afternoon. The layout is a welcome and familiar vault and lounge set-up, which hasn't changed in decades. A bar in the middle complete with bar stools, a rarity in the major chains is exactly as I imagine it would have been when built.
Comfortable and Welcoming
The clientele is regular, local people enjoying a chat and a pint, yet the atmosphere is friendly, and I feel welcome. This isn't always the case in pubs of this type, but The Lower Angel is somewhere I could happily return to regularly.
I took a seat at the bar and was immediately acknowledged by the man on the next stool and the attentive barman. Liverpool Brewing Company supplies most of the real ales on offer here, so I tried the Cascade,' which proved to be a good choice. A pale ale of 3.8%, it's a perfect afternoon session ale.
Dogs are welcome in the bar, and there were a couple lying asleep under one of the tables, and there is a sheltered beer garden. Pleasing for me was the low level of background music. Too often, it's at a higher volume, and it's difficult to initiate a conversation.
The friendly local on my left broke the ice with the usual not seen you in here before' comment. We chatted for a while, as you do in a genuine pub setting, and he told me about the history of the memorabilia that is part of the décor. You don't get that in your bigger, city centre chain pubs.

Combining elements of classical painting with inspirations from the world of graffiti Tea One is influenced by the post industrial landscape of Northern Britain. Particularly he draws from those remnants left over from the areas once abundant past. Painting on the alley known as the Baum he has weaved seven stories together from seven different women. Calling the piece the Seven Sisters' he is of course also referencing the famous apartment blocks through placing real life stories into that context.
His stories are those which many of us would have experienced. Each of the women in the mural have their own tale to tell but they are tales that all of us could associate with. From left to right the first woman holds something up to a light. It's unknown what it is but it could be an opportunity or it could be a burden. She doesn't know it yet but her life might be about to change either way. Next to her a woman sits in a boat rowing with her back to her destination. She isn't sure what lies ahead yet she still travels into the unknown, she is on her own personal odyssey.
The third woman is wearing a mask. She is struggling with her own identity. Perhaps living a charade or just not sure what journey she is on or whether it is indeed the right one. Combining elements of classical painting with inspirations from the world of graffiti Tea One is influenced by the post industrial landscape of Northern Britain. Particularly he draws from those remnants left over from the areas once abundant past. Painting on the alley known as the Baum he has weaved seven stories together from seven different women. Calling the piece the Seven Sisters' he is of course also referencing the famous apartment blocks through placing real life stories into that context.
His stories are those which many of us would have experienced. Each of the women in the mural have their own tale to tell but they are tales that all of us could associate with. From left to right the first woman holds something up to a light. It's unknown what it is but it could be an opportunity or it could be a burden. She doesn't know it yet but her life might be about to change either way. Next to her a woman sits in a boat rowing with her back to her destination. She isn't sure what lies ahead yet she still travels into the unknown, she is on her own personal odyssey.
The third woman is wearing a mask. She is struggling with her own identity. Perhaps living a charade or just not sure what journey she is on or whether it is indeed the right one. The silhouetted figure next to her represents travel. Either leaving or arriving she could be about to go on a journey or may be coming home after a voyage. It is widely recognised as being one of the finest municipal buildings in the country, and is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.
The Town Hall functions as the ceremonial headquarters of Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council and houses local government departments, including the borough's civil registration office.
Built in the Gothic Revival style at a cost of £160,000 (£15.9 million in 2023), it was inaugurated for the governance of the Municipal Borough of Rochdale on 27 September 1871.
The architect, William Henry Crossland, was the winner of a competition held in 1864 to design a new Town Hall. It had a 240-foot (73 m) clock tower topped by a wooden spire with a gilded statue of Saint George and the Dragon, both of which were destroyed by fire on 10 April 1883, leaving the building without a spire for four years.
A new 190-foot (58 m) stone clock tower and spire in the style of Manchester Town Hall was designed by Alfred Waterhouse, and erected in 1887.
Architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner described the building as possessing a rare picturesque beauty. Its stained-glass windows are credited as the finest modern examples of their kind.
The building came to the attention of Adolf Hitler, who was said to have admired it so much that he wished to ship the building, brick-by-brick, to Nazi Germany had the United Kingdom been defeated in the Second World War
The Town Hall was one of several built in the textile towns of North West England following the Municipal Corporations Act 1835, but is one of only two in Greater Manchester built in the Gothic style. Between the setting of the foundation stone and the building's completion, revisions and additions were made to the original design. The new facility on Dallam Lane replace the previous depot on Wilderspool Causeway and was funded by Warrington Borough Council, the Towns Fund and the Getting Building fund.
Warrington's Own Buses's fleet is set to be fully electrified next year, courtesy of a Zero Emission Bus Regional Area (ZEBRA) scheme which was given the go-ahead on 13 February.
The first electric vehicles are not expected to enter service until the end of this year, so the depot has capacity for diesel buses in the meantime.
Managing Director of Warrington's Own Buses, Ben Wakerley, says: I'm really pleased that, after many years of planning, we have finally opened our new bus depot. We have been working hard to transfer our bus services and operations over from Wilderspool Causeway, and I'm very proud of our team for their support in a smooth transition for the company.
The support from all of the organisations involved in supporting our new depot has been immense everyone has really pulled together and I'm pleased that another important step in the continued development of Warrington's bus services has been made.
Better facilities will improve bus maintenance, reliability and, ultimately, improved customer service.
Warrington council's Hans Mundry, cabinet member for highways, transportation and public realm, adds: The opening of the new bus depot for Warrington's Own Buses is significant, as it paves the way for further bus service improvements.
We have already seen a good increase in passenger numbers since we introduced our Better By Bus campaign which has brought reduced fares and improved timetables and we can now look forward to the new depot supporting the arrival of our cutting-edge, all-electric bus fleet ZEBRA next year.

The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Liverpool, the archdeaconry of Warrington and the deanery of Warrington.
A place of worship has been present on the site since about 650 AD, and the presence of a priest in Warrington was recorded in the Domesday Book. According to tradition the first church was built by Saint Oswald for his companion Elphin, who remained as the first priest there until his death in 679. The earliest fabric in the present church is in the chancel and the crypt, which survive from the church built in 1354 by Sir William Boteler. The church was badly damaged by the Parliamentary forces in the Civil War. Following this the tower was rebuilt in 1696 and the nave in 1770. The south aisle was added in the early 19th century. Most of the fabric of the present church is the result of an extensive restoration between 1859 and 1867 by Frederick and Horace Francis. It was during this restoration that the spire was added. The bells were recast in 1698 and again in 1884. In 1950 they were recast again and the clock was replaced
Within the church, St Ann's Chapel was founded by Thomas Massey, rector of Warrington from 1448 to 1464.
It continued to belong to the Massey family until they died out in 1748. The chapel was then acquired by the Patten family who built a vault to bury members of the family, the last being Lord Winmarleigh in 1892. The Lady Chapel was founded and endowed by Sir John Boteler in 1290. He and other family members were buried in the chapel. In 1943 it became the chapel of the South Lancashire Regiment and in 1976 the chapel of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment.

The first attack happened on 26 February, when a bomb exploded at a gas storage facility. It caused extensive damage but no injuries. Howard was born in North London, either in Hackney or Enfield. His father, also John, was a wealthy upholsterer at Smithfield Market in the city. His mother Ann Pettitt, or Cholmley, died when he was five years old, and, described as a sickly child, he was sent to live at Cardington, Bedfordshire, some fifty miles from London, where his father owned property.

John Howard was appointed High Sheriff of Bedfordshire in 1773,:9 initially for a one-year period. Rather than delegating his duties to the under-sheriff as was customary, Howard inspected the county prison himself. He was shocked by what he found, and spurred into action to inspect prisons throughout England. Of particular concern to Howard were those prisoners who were held because they could not pay the jailer's fee an amount paid to the owner or keeper of the prison for upkeep. He took this issue to parliament, and in 1774 was called to give evidence on prison conditions to a House of Commons select committee. Unusually, Howard was called to the bar of the House of Commons and publicly thanked for his humanity and zeal.

The business would later encompass more than 140 sites, which included expansion to stand-alone retail stores and stand-alone fitness clubs. In 2011, the business joined buying group Intersport, and began using its name within its facades, and in 2016 it joint-purchased the Fitness First UK business alongside The Gym Group and Greenwich Leisure Limited.
In August 2020, it announced that DW Sports Fitness was to enter administration. A considerable number of its locations were then purchased by Frasers Group, who turned them into Everlast Fitness Club and Sports Direct locations, whilst some Fitness First locations would continue. It is understood that 922 jobs out of 1,700 were saved by Frasers Group. The DW Sports Fitness brand continues administration and realisation. DW Stadium in Wigan remains named as such for the time being.
In 2016, DW Sports Fitness acquired all 62 Fitness First clubs in the UK from Oaktree Capital Management, selling 14 of those and continuing to operate 48 under the Fitness First brand.
As of August 2020 DW Sports Fitness operated 73 gyms, 43 of them under the Fitness First brand.
In June 2020 the company announced that 25 retail stores would be closing down as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown.
On 3 August 2020 it announced that it was to enter administration with all stores eventually closing, and that it was working with the administrators to save some of the gyms from closure. The 43 gyms operating under the Fitness First brand would be unaffected by the administration as they are operated within a separate company. The website closed with immediate effect on 3 August and closing down sales started in their stores on the same day.

The station was operated by the London and North Western Railway and became part of the London Midland and Scottish Railway in 1923. In 1948, British Railways ran the system.

The second dance floor, Mr M's, stayed open until 6 am and played oldies songs from a variety of DJs including Dave Evison and Steve Whittle. All-nighters generally ended with three songs that became known as the '3 before 8': Time Will Pass You By by Tobi Legend, Long After Tonight Is All Over by Jimmy Radcliffe, and I'm on My Way by Dean Parrish.

Life and career
She was born Bessie Grace Gupton in Alabama, the daughter of gospel singer Emma Washington. She grew up in Detroit and first performed in her mother's choir, the Emma Washington Gospel Singers. She toured with the group for ten years, from the age of nine, before securing her first professional job, as a backing singer for B. B. King. As Bessie Watson, she first recorded in 1963, releasing the single 'Deed I Do backed by the Cannonball Adderley Quintet, on the Riverside label, and then two singles, I'm in Your Corner and Wake Up Crying on the Jay Pee label. As Tobi Lark, she then recorded several singles for the Palmer, Topper, and U.S.D. labels, but none achieved much commercial success. She also performed with the Impressions, the Four Tops, Ben E. King, Wilson Pickett, King Curtis, and Duke Ellington, among others
In 1968, in Detroit, she recorded Time Will Pass You By, a song written by English-born songwriter and record producer John Rhys Eddins with Nick Zesses and Dino Fekaris. The record was released on the Mala label under the name Tobi Legend, but it was unsuccessful until it was picked up in the early 1970s by followers of the Northern soul scene in the UK. The song became known as one of the Three Before Eight, played at the conclusion of every all-nighter at the Wigan Casino club, and has since featured on several anthologies of Northern soul music including The Best Northern Soul All-Nighter ... On weeknights one could find pieces of sets in construction or the actors in rehearsal, in the knowledge that the set had to be erected on a stage on a Monday night, and the play dress-rehearsed on the Tuesday.
That stage was at St. Michael's Hall in Shaw Street, and it was to be the group's platform for three and a half years. Four hundred Wiganers were now members and the financial success of the productions in following months, together with monies raised by private efforts, enabled the pioneers to plunge.
While the reign at St. Michael's was blooming, the committee had taken an option on the derelict cinema, which is now our theatre, and the sojourn at 56a ended, for all rehearsals and preparation could now be held in the equally spare surroundings of the Alliance. This was in 1946, and it was a condition of the building license for its conversion, that as many jobs as could be done by amateur labour should be. Expert advice duly delegated to eager novices directed the stripping of plaster and pickaxing of underground passageways each evening, while by day the joiners and plasterers spread their masking finishes
The final weeks of preparation were frenzied. By February 1948, productions had raised £850, interest free loans had been encouraged to the tune of £820, members' private efforts had brought in £1,450 and the scheme by which our supporters endowed seats in the theatre at £5 each had produced £500.
In all, when the theatre opened, £3,500 had been raised to cover the deposit on the building and necessary alterations amounting to £2,500. This was followed by a generous interest free loan of £4,000 by Mr. F. T. Hanson, which put the theatre on a solid footing.

Winstanley was the leader and one of the founders of the English group known as the True Levellers or Diggers. The group occupied formerly common land that had been privatised by enclosures and dug them over, pulling down hedges and filling in ditches, to plant crops. True Levellers was the name they used to describe themselves, whereas the term Diggers was coined by contemporaries.
Early life
Gerrard Winstanley was born on 19 October 1609, the son of Edward Winstanley, mercer, and was baptised in the parish of Wigan, then part of the West Derby hundred of Lancashire. His mother's identity remains unknown and he could have been born anywhere in the parish of Wigan. The parish of Wigan contained the townships of Abram, Aspull, Billinge-and-Winstanley, Dalton, Haigh, Hindley, Ince-in-Makerfield, Orrell, Pemberton, and Upholland, as well as Wigan itself.
In 1630, Winstanley migrated to the City of London, where he became an apprentice to a Merchant Tailor. In 1638, he was admitted as a freeman of the Merchant Tailors' Company, a trade guild. In 1639, he married Susan King, the daughter of William King, a London surgeon.
English Civil Wars
The First English Civil War disrupted Winstanley's business, and in 1643 he was made bankrupt. His father-in-law helped him to move to Cobham, Surrey, where he initially worked as a cowherd
Winstanley published a pamphlet called The New Law of Righteousness. The basis of this work came from the Book of Acts, chapter two, verses 44 and 45: And all that believed were together, and had all things common

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2MKF8CY - William John Boston, MBE (born 6 August 1934) is a Welsh former professional rugby league footballer who played as a wing or centre. Born in Cardiff, Wales, Boston started his career as a rugby union player before joining Wigan in 1953. He spent the next 15 years at Wigan, where he scored a club-record 478 tries in his 488 appearances for the club. He finished his career at Blackpool Borough before retiring in 1970. He also represented Great Britain in 31 Test matches, and was part of the team that won the 1960 Rugby League World Cup.
Regarded as one of the sport's greatest ever players, Boston scored a total of 571 tries in his career, making him the second-highest try scorer in rugby league history. He is an original inductee of the British Rugby League Hall of Fame, Welsh Sports Hall of Fame and Wigan Warriors Hall of Fame, and was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 1996 Birthday Honours for services to the community in Wigan, Greater Manchester.
Early life
Born on 6 August 1934 at Angelina Street, Butetown, Cardiff, Boston was the sixth of eleven children born to John Boston (a merchant seaman from Sierra Leone) and Nellie who came from Cardiff's Irish community
On 13 March 1953 Wigan chairman Joe Taylor and vice-chairman Billy Gore travelled to Boston's home in Cardiff and offered him £1,000 to sign for them. Although that was very large offer, Boston's mother rejected it on his behalf. A second offer of £1,500 was made in cash, and the money was spread out on the table in five pound notes to show the family how much money it was.
Boston stated that he still did not want to sign, but his mother had given their word, and Boston signed the contract.
Boston made his 'A' team début a crowd of 8,000 assembled inside Central Park, Wigan. He made his first team début against Barrow in November 1953 scoring a try.
Billy Boston played stand-off in Wigan's 813 defeat by Oldham in the 195758 Lancashire Cup Final

The second-generation Eclipse 2 was launched in 2008, followed by the third-generation Eclipse 3 in 2015. The Eclipse, and its sister design the Solar, were named for a solar eclipse which was visible in the UK in 1999, the year of its introduction.
The Eclipse was launched in 1999 on Volvo B7L chassis and, in 2003, the body was made available on the more popular Volvo B7RLE chassis. The fountain was influenced by the Trevi Fountain in Rome and shows Neptune, the Rome god of water, holding a trident as a symbol of his power over the sea. This park is given a grade 2 listing under the English Heritage register of historic parks and gardens, with the Pump Room as a grade 1 historic building.
Pittville Park won it's first Green Flag Award and Green Heritage Accredition in 2016 and still flies the flag.
Pittville Park is divided in two by Evesham Road. Most people are familiar with the eastern side of the park, which is overlooked by Pittville Pump Room, and home to the main children's play area and the aviaries where you'll find our popular birds and bunnies. However, to the west of Evesham Road lies the much larger western park with its more natural layout and small areas of woodland. Here you will find the larger 'lower lake' where you can fish during the fishing season, and there is a smaller children's play area along with tennis courts, a pitch and putt golf course and a skate park.

John Smith acquired the Backhouse & Hartley brewery in 1852. The initiative, which has been confirmed for at least the next six months, will help to support those who are making the switch from petrol and diesel to electric.
There are currently 56 charging points at the Time Square car park one of the highest number of charging points in a single location in the country with another 12 charging points available at the new Warrington West station.
The move to offering free electric vehicle charging comes after the council's climate emergency declaration in June.
The plans to encourage electric vehicle travel also support the council's Air Quality Action Plan, which aims to reduce nitrogen dioxide levels within the main, busy traffic routes leading into and around the town.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, cabinet member for environment, who drives an electric car herself, said: It's great news that I'm able to announce free charging points for electric vehicle users here in Warrington. Writing in 1905, William Howarth described Parr's as one of the great amalgamating banks in the country and a power in the financial world. The bank's history dates back to the late eighteenth century, with a possible starting date of 1782. The first partnership was with Joseph Parr, a sugar boiler, his brother-in-law Matthew Lyon, and Walter Kerfoot, a solicitor. by 1890 there were 22 branches and 21 sub-branches.

An ugly underpass is to be transformed into a picturesque passage through a new art project.
The Macclesfield Brick Project is offering everyone a chance to paint one of the 3,000 bricks' which line the subway beneath Park Lane.
For 10 days from Monday, May 23, a different artist from the town will be on hand to help would-be artists create their mini-masterpieces.
Artists include: Ralph McGaul. Kails Tresson, TJ Dolan, Jean Westbrook, Pat Cody, Julie Hamer, Jane Osmond and Dan Petley, who came up with the idea.
Dan said: Your job is to design and hand paint one in this wall to show how you feel about Macclesfield. When each of the bricks is finished, your work will be a part of a giant colourful communal masterpiece.
We have been inspired by the diversity of people of all ages, who regularly walk through this underpass, and we want to involve them in producing meaningful miniature paintings.
The project is being supported by Macclesfield Town Council and runs until June 1.

The Three Cups Cocoa House was opened on 26th of December 1878 in the former showrooms and workshop of Price & Wilding, formerly Groucott, Price & Wilding. This was on the west side of Pillory Street.
The report of the opening ceremony takes a whole column in small print in the Nantwich Guardian of December 28th, 1878. The Rev. F.G. Blackburne was chairman of the company set up to create The Three Cups'. Eight hundred and ninety two £l shares had been bought. He explained the new amenity was for the benefit of all classes.
For one halfpenny you could buy a cup of cocoa or coffee, for one penny, a cup of tea or a bowl of soup. You could also read the newspapers. So this new type of service was rather like the London coffee house of long ago and something like the new Public Libraries since 1850, but then Nantwich did not have one.
In 1992 Nantwich Civic Society protested about the state of the main building on Pillory Street. There were broken windows on three sides. It was feared rain would cause further that deterioration, pests would invade and the building would become a health hazard.
A second developer rescued the Cocoa House in 1992/3 and two businesses began in 1993. Further restoration took place on the buildings in the yard. Three of these became businesses by the end of 1993. Living accommodation was also made available on the upper floors.
Part of the yard forming the passage from Pillory Street to Hospital Street was paved, flower beds, lamp standards and litter bins provided. The tall chimney of the one-time cooper's kiln has been preserved to form a central feature as does the large metal archway reading COCOA YARD over the entrance from Hospital Street. The Market began in 1500. The market building used today dates from 1867. There is a Market on three days a week, and there are stalls inside and out. Nantwich is a busy shopping centre with many fine food, drink and clothing retailers.
Nantwich is an ancient settlement and there were Romans here. The wich' part of the name comes from salt, which the town remains famous for. The local salt springs were good for making salt, and in the 1900s were popular for health tourists. The town still has a popular heated outdoor brine swimming pool.

customers would walk up through the different departments. The main double door is now
replaced by the separate doors into the Black Book café and the launderette, with a
narrow blank panel in between. The windows up both Nelson St and Parliament St have
the original lights and pull-down awnings (still working).
The square, Art Deco, rendered panel (1931') is as it was originally. The signage (Soap &
Suds, etc) is modern but in a font in keeping with the age of the building.
Unit 6, originally the butcher's department of the Co-op and now a tattoo parlour has a
set-back doorway (the others in the block flush) but no awning like the others. At the back
of the shop are the original butcher's rails. The plate glass is the original Co-op shop
glass.
In Unit 4, originally the cooked meats department with uphill neighbour Hong Kong
takeaway and now R&R books, the central black and white tiled flooring is original.

The market hall and its integral ground-floor shops on Bridge Street, Corporation Street and Knowsley Street are included in the English Heritage listing
Bolton Market Hall was designed by architect G. T. Robinson, and opened on 19 December 1855. Measuring 294 feet in length and covering an area of 7000 square yards it was said to be 'the largest covered market in the kingdom'. It cost £50000.
A long procession led to the opening ceremony. To complement the produce stalls and boost custom, a fish market was built next to it which opened in 1865 at a cost of £30000. The fish market was demolished in September 1932.
The hall was refurbished in the 1980s to become the Market Place Shopping Centre and was opened in 1988 by Queen Elizabeth II.
The building has stone façades, a cast iron and glass roof and is a Grade II listed building. Originally a single space with table stalls and blank elevations, it was modified, in the 1890s, 1930s and 1980s. The roof has large expanses of glazing carried on cast iron columns. At its highest point the ceiling is 112 feet high and has semi-circular arches. It has a hanging cast-iron lantern and once had a decorative fountain.
In 2007 Warner Estates commissioned van Heyningen and Haward Architects to restore the building's original features and modernise it to 20th century standards. Alterations to the original fabric were minimized and a scheme developed to allow retail units to be slotted into the listed structure, allowing for flexibility and potential removal in the future if desired.
The scheme was contentious involving significant change to a historic building. After consultation and the council awarded planning permission and listed building consent in 2005. English Heritage and the local council's conservation officer were involved in the proposals. The completed Market Place opened in October 2008.

A £3.7m project to transform Bolton library will see the children's area treble in size and a new café built. In December 2021 Bolton was offered up to £22M of town's fund' government cash in order to level up' and regenerate town centres.
Bolton Council's planning committee unanimously approved the final plans for the listed Le Mans Crescent building. The work, which will include the installation of a mezzanine floor in the building, is expected to begin in September and take around a year to complete.
During the closure period the library will be temporarily housed at Crompton Place shopping mall on the site of the former New Look unit. Sam Elliott, head of libraries and museums in Bolton spoke in support of the plans to the committee.

Born in Heaton Moor, Stockport, Cheshire, the son of a bank manager, Gow attended Altrincham County High School. After training as a chemist, he returned to his old school as a teacher. Writing occupied his spare time during his years as a schoolmaster, and he wrote several plays for the BBC. At the age of 35 he had his first professional production, in London and New York, with Gallows Glorious (1933), a play about the American slavery abolitionist John Brown.
In 1934 he wrote Love on the Dole, based on Walter Greenwood's novel about unemployment in Salford during the Great Depression. The play was a huge success. Wendy Hiller played the lead, and also made her first film appearance in the Gow-scripted Lancashire Luck.
In 1937 Hiller and Gow married. They later moved to Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, where they raised two children, Ann (19392006) and Anthony (b. 1942). He lived with Hiller at their home, Spindles, until his death in 1993. He continued writing plays into his eighties, providing material for his wife in adaptations of Tess of the D'Urbervilles (1946), which was a great success while Ann Veronica (1949), adapted from the H. G. Wells novel,[1] quickly proved a commercial failure. Gow was co-credited for the book used in the musical version of Ann Veronica which premiered in 1969. His other adaptations include Vita Sackville-West's The Edwardians and A Boston Story (1966), based on Henry James' Watch and Ward.

The frieze, unveiled by the commissioned artist Tom Murphy, depicts the band alongside iconic elements of Warrington and serves as a permanent tribute in their memory.
Ben Dunne, dad of River Reeves, said: As a group of family and friends, seeing our son, step-son, brother, nephew, cousin, and good friend captured in bronze with his mates was both heart-breaking and strangely comforting.
River looked happy and at peace, and to think that people in hundreds of years time will be able to see him like that is almost hard to comprehend.
Thank you to all those people who gave so generously in 2016 and to the council for making it happen, he added.
Thank you also to Tom Murphy for creating something so beautiful now destined to keep River, the band and Craig close to the heart of the town forever.

The Beacon clock tower at Customhouse Quay in Greenock, designed by William Clark, marine artist. It has a weather vane, a fog bell, a fog light and clock. The lower section is interesting and contains an amazing amount of detail.
The drinking fountain has a beautiful lion's head and crest with the words God Speed - very apt considering many there would be going on a journey, as well as being part of Greenock's own motto. There was also a letter box.

Howard Ben Tre died earlier this summer, aged 71.
Described as a 'larger than life character' he was famed in the art world for his large-scale glass sculptures.
But his work in Warrington was rather different.
Howard and first wife Gay won a contest to create public art on Bridge Street and Market Gate after the devastating bombing of 1993. The work was finished in 1999.
The couple spent two years overseeing the town centre's transformation, replacing the main thoroughfare with trees, fountains, seating and sculpture that connected the shops.
Growing up in New York, he lived in Rhode Island where he has a studio.
Howard and Gay, both active in protesting the Vietnam War, married when they were 21.
We had a very adventurous life together, Gay Ben Tré said. He once told her: Without me, we wouldn't have had as many adventures
without you, we wouldn't have survived.
His second wife Wendy MacGaw told the Providence Journal he was a 'force of nature'.
Howard returned to Warrington in 2009, ten years after the skittles and fountains had first been revealed.
Cllr Mike Hannon, who came up with the idea for the artwork, said it had helped to transform Warrington.
He added: Howard was actually talking about Warrington at an event in York and he got to see it with the trees matured.
It was controversial at the time but if I was asked would I do it again, I would say definitely yes.
I believe in the rationale behind it and experts say we would not have had the investment in the Golden Square with all the money and jobs that brought without the public artworks.

The hollow Bronze, statue was made by F. W. Pomeroy at a cost of £1,200. It was unveiled in 1900 by Lord Brassey. Pomeroy was a prolific British sculptor of architectural and monumental works. He was one of the so-called New Sculptors identified by Edmund Gosse in 1894 a group distinguished by a stylistic turn towards naturalism and their work in architectural sculpture.
It was erected to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Robert Blake. £1,200 had been raised from public donation to fund the statue. Blake was one of the most important military commanders of the Commonwealth of England and one of the most famous English admirals of the 17th century. He was elected as the Member of Parliament for Bridgwater in the Short Parliament. When the English Civil War broke out during the period of the Long Parliament, and having failed to be re-elected, Blake began his military career on the side of the parliamentarians despite having no substantial experience of military or naval matters. Blake was appointed general at sea in 1649, serving in the First Anglo-Dutch War and Anglo-Spanish War. Later he was made Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2C9E2T7 - The Museum of Somerset is located in the 12th-century great hall of Taunton Castle, in Taunton in the county of Somerset, England. The museum is run by South West Heritage Trust, an independent charity and includes objects initially collected by the Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society who own the castle.
Until 2008 the museum was known as the Somerset County Museum. Heritage Lottery Fund support was obtained to improve the museum, and the new museum reopened at the end of September 2011.
Exhibits include the Frome Hoard, the Low Ham Roman Mosaic, the bronze-age South Cadbury shield and a range of other objects relating to the history of the county.
In 1874 the castle was bought by the Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society and between 1899 and 1900 the Great Hall was repaired and refitted as their chief museum space. In 1908-9 the Adam Library was created to house the society's growing collection of books. The society now leases it to Somerset County Council to house the Museum of Somerset. A substantial proportion of the items held by the Museum were originally collected by the Society.
In October 2007, plans for a £6.5 million improvement to the museum and the castle were submitted by Somerset County Council to the Heritage Lottery Fund. It closed to the public on 18 April 2008 for a two-year refit, and reopened as the Museum of Somerset on 29 September 2011. Central to the new museum is the Tree of Somerset, a sculpture carved from oak from the Quantock Hills, which depicts events from Somerset's history

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy PG69H6 - Bridgwater is a large historic market town and civil parish in Somerset, England. Its population currently stands at around 35,886 as of 2011. Bridgwater is at the edge of the Somerset Levels, in level and well-wooded country. The town lies along both sides of the River Parrett, and has been a major in-land port and trading centre since the industrial revolution. Most of its industrial bases still stand today. Its larger neighbour Taunton, is linked to Bridgwater via a canal, the M5 motorway and the GWR railway line.
Historically, the town had a politically radical tendency. The Battle of Sedgemoor, where the Monmouth Rebellion was finally crushed in 1685, was fought nearby. Notable buildings include the Church of St Mary and the house in Blake Street, largely restored, which was the birthplace of Admiral Blake in 1598, and is now the Blake Museum. The town has an arts centre and plays host to the annual Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival.

The revival of the Altrincham Market is nothing short of remarkable. From 1290 (yes, 1290!) the market had been at the centre of community life in Altrincham. Throughout the centuries, the market would have been where townsfolk gathered to buy goods, make a living, and spend time in the company of their neighbours.
And yet, the second half of the 20th century brought a period of stagnation. With the fortunes of the town on the downturn and the population size decreasing year over year, the historic market was being run by the council with little love or care. In fact, around a decade ago, Altrincham was voted as having the worse high street in Britain.
So, what has changed?
Well, Nick Johnson came onto the scene. Nick was a property developer and saw something in Altrincham that others failed to spot. In 2013, he won the contract to run the market and quickly set about changing the face of it and in turn Altrincham.
Nick gave the Victorian building a makeover. Cleaning it from top to bottom and restoring some features that had been neglected. He then got to work contacting some of the area's best, local food vendors.
Nick did the same in Manchester city centre with the Mackie Mayor food hall, the big sister of Altrincham Market House. We previously wrote about Mackie Mayor here.
Food And Drink At Altrincham Market House
Since it reopened in 2014, locals and visitors have filled the food hall week after week, and it should come as no surprise the food on offer is second to none!
Market House is home to 10 indie food stalls, including Honest Crust, Wolfhouse Kitchen, Tender Cow, Jack in the Box, Reserve Wines, Great North Pie Co., Sam Joseph, and Market House Coffee.
Jack in the Box is an award-winning producer of real ale and cider that operate across the Mackie Mayor and Altrincham

Birmingham's oldest venue. It was designed by Joseph Hansom and Edward Welch and modelled on a classical temple, hence the columns on the outside. It opened in 1834.
Its debut as a rock and pop venue came in the late 1950s and 1960s. Buddy Holly, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath and numerous bands and solo artists have appeared there. It closed in 1996 for a make over and refurbishment and re-opened in 2007. It is now one of the city's more posher venues and tends to attract the more sedate kind of acts, although it was the site of an Ozzy Osbourne homecoming concert!
