Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E8PTWX - Thickly battered fish and chips with curry sauce are served in a white recyclable tray inside a British chip shop, with wooden cutlery and a takeaway-style presentation adding to the everyday fast-food setting. The golden batter, chunky chips and bright curry sauce make the image a strong editorial view of a classic British supper, but it also carries useful contemporary context about the rising cost of fish and chips. The fish could be cod, haddock or another white fish, so captions should avoid claiming a species unless confirmed by the shop or menu. That caution is especially relevant because recent reporting and trade discussion have highlighted pressure on chip shops from sharply rising cod and haddock prices, with some operators promoting cheaper alternatives such as pollock, and concern about mislabelled catfish, pangasius or river cobbler being sold where customers expected traditional cod or haddock. The image is commercially useful for stories about food inflation, cost of living, takeaway meals, family budgets, chip shop closures, seafood supply chains, fish quotas, imported fish costs, cooking oil, potatoes, packaging, labour costs and the survival of traditional British high street food. It can also illustrate consumer choice, portion sizes, recyclable packaging, casual dining, fast food, comfort food, working-class food culture and regional variations in chippy menus. The curry sauce adds a familiar British chip shop detail, while the thick orange batter and tray setting make the meal instantly recognisable. It is also useful for features on cheaper fish substitutes, clear menu labelling, and how small food businesses balance honesty, affordability and survival. As a documentary stock image, it captures both the appeal and the pressure around fish and chips: still a much-loved national meal, but no longer the cheap supper it once was as ingredients, energy, wages and wholesale fish prices continue to squeeze both customers and shop owners.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RCA2EG - The Rochdale Pioneers Museum is housed in the building where the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society started trading on 21 December 1844. The museum is regarded as the birthplace of the modern co-operative movement. It is located in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England.
The museum includes a recreation of the original shop, containing its rudimentary furniture, scales, items that were sold at the store, etc. Moreover, the museum transmits the influence of the co-operative movement on issues such as women's rights, poverty, education, fair trade and social reform. The museum is owned by the Co-operative Heritage Trust and managed by the Co-operative College
31 Toad Lane was originally an 18th-century warehouse, on a busy road which then extended to the centre of the town. In 1844 the Co-operative Society rented the ground floor, the upper floors being used by the Methodist society. A counter was made with a plank on barrels, and the shop began. From 1849 the Co-op rented the whole building and developed a library, meeting room, and boot and shoe department. In the 1860s other buildings were rented and in 1867 the society moved out to new purpose-built premises. The building became a pet shop
The Rochdale Pioneers quickly became an inspiration for a wide part of the society, and the co-operative movement started to be known nationally and internationally. As a result, the Co-operative Union purchased the building at 31 Toad Lane in 1925, expressly to create a museum that enhanced the birthplace of co-operation. The museum opened for the first time in 1931.
In the 1970s, the museum was closed for some years because structural problems were found in the building
but it was successfully restored. Rochdale Council redeveloped the remaining section of Toad Lane outside of the building, which had been a cul-de-sac since the 1960s. The new characteristics of the area were cobbled streets, flanked by 19th-century gas lamps and a unique Victorian post-box.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2NAWGJT - The Black Country is a loosely defined area of southern Staffordshire and northern Worcestershire which lies to the north and west of Birmingham, and to the south and east of Wolverhampton. The town of Dudley (Worcestershire) is sometimes referred to as being the Black Country's unofficial capital.
The Black Country is divided between the counties of Stafford and Worcester, the greater part belonging to Staffordshire. Dudley is a detached part of Worcestershire surrounded by Staffordshire, separated from the main body of its own shire by a narrow strip.
By the late 19th century, the Black Country had become one of the most intensely industrialised in the nation. The South Staffordshire coal mines, the coal coking operations, and the iron foundries and steel mills that used the local coal to fire their furnaces, produced a level of air pollution that had few equals anywhere in the world at the time.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M1MG94 - Yorkshire Tea is a black tea blend produced by the Bettys & Taylors Group since 1977. It is the most popular traditional black tea brand sold in the UK. In 1886 Charles Edward Taylor Founded CE Taylor & Co., later shortened to Taylors, the company was purchased by 'Betty's Tea Rooms' which today forms Bettys & Taylors Group. Taylors of Harrogate is still based in Harrogate, Yorkshire, in the first 'Betty's' tea room.
The group is still owned by the family of Bettys' founder, Fredrick Belmont and is currently chaired by Lesley Wild. The company is one of the few remaining family tea and coffee merchants in the country, whilst competing with the British-owned PG Tips (Ekaterra) and Tetley (Tata), where Yorkshire Tea is now the most purchased tea brand in the UK, overtaking Twinings (a division of Associated British Foods) and Typhoo
Yorkshire Tea uses varieties of tea grown in India, Sri Lanka, and Kenya, blended to form eight blends: Yorkshire Tea, Yorkshire Decaf, Yorkshire Hardwater (available in the United Kingdom), Yorkshire Gold, Breakfast Brew, Bedtime Brew, Biscuit Brew, and Toast and Jam Brew.
In 2016 the brand launched Breakfast Brew, Breaktime Brew and the decaffeinated Bedtime Brew. Yorkshire Tea introduced Biscuit Brew, a malty flavoured tea, to its range in 2018 and Toast and Jam Brew in 2020.
The Yorkshire Tea brand is being extended to include a range of cakes, biscuits, and fruit loaves, sold as being complementary to drinking tea by its parent company The Bettys & Taylors Group, which owns cookery schools and tea rooms

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy ECW4F2 - located within the Roman Walls of this Historic City of Chester. The Three Kings Tea Rooms are housed in a 'Grade Two' Listed Building which dates from the mid 17th Century.
The building is constructed around a massive inner oak frame which incorporates a thirty foot cross beam and vertical house tree over eighteen feet six inches high.
Throughout the premises the timber frames and roof trusses are exposed with many of the panels retaining their original 'wattle and daub' infill.
One of the Stairwell timbers has recently been dated as early 12th Century making it the oldest, to date, located in Chester.
The Building was originally thought to have been the Tithe Store of the Earl of Shrewsbury who at one time owned the entire block in which this property stands.
He held the title of 'Sergeant of Bridgegate' with the right to take a toll from carts using the Old Dee Bridge, the toll being three coins of the period, which bore the Kings Head, hence the buildings present name.
A recent survey suggests that Chester's famous 'Rows' might have extended to this part of the City, but the earliest documented evidence is an engraving by Bateman of 1816 showing the property with twin gables.
Over the door is a sign which reads 'Dealers in Tea and Coffee'. The Georgian facade was added at the beginning of the 19th Century after which it was sold by the Shrewsbury Estate under the 'Act of 1862'.
Since then the building has been put to various uses from a Private Dwelling to a Wine Merchants, Refreshment Rooms, Bespoke Tailors and now, rather appropriately as 'The Three Kings Tea Rooms'.

The Missionaries of Charity in Liverpool offer hospitality to the homeless community. Volunteers assist the work of the Missionaries of Charity in giving out food. After the clients finish their food they often have another cup of tea and a cake and then start to disperse. The volunteers then wash up the dishes, sweep and mop the floor and clean the tables. Some volunteers go around the dining-room and pour out tea for people. On occasion a client may be drunk and become somewhat agitated
on these occasions the nuns step in and sort out the situation. Whilst it can be quite daunting going into the Missionaries of Charity soup-kitchen' at first, volunteers often say they become more confident as the weeks go on, and look forward to returning week after week.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4861768890 - 'The Chad Who Loved Me - 'Mansun' - Play this track here.
?Whats this iPod Shuffle set all about? Read about it here
Mansun were formed in Chester, England in 1995 by Draper and King. The band's foundations were cemented with the addition of Chad, who worked behind the bar at the Fat Cat pub in Chester and they began rehearsing at Crash Rehearsal Studios in Liverpool, where the band would be discovered by a passing A&
R man and offered a publishing contract.
The band were originally called 'Grey Lantern' but changed their name to 'Manson', after the cult leader Charles Manson but were forced to change it due to copyright issues. The band gave several false accounts of this at the time, one being that they were named after The Verve b-side 'A Man Called Sun', and that 'Manson' was simply a spelling mistake which accidentally went through to production. It was reported that Charles Manson had started spelling his name with a 'U', to which Draper joked that perhaps they should sue him.
Early EPs were followed by the critically acclaimed album Attack Of The Grey Lantern which appeared to contain a conceptual storyline - heavily debated by fans - whilst ending with a hidden track (An Open Letter To The Lyrical Trainspotter, previously featured on Three EP) proclaiming sarcastically 'The lyrics aren't supposed to mean that much'. The band's debut LP knocked fellow Parlophone act Blur's 1997 self-titled album from the top spot of the British album chart. Radiohead are quoted as saying, at that year's Q Awards, that the album was 'a real musical achievement'. Draper stated that the lyrics from this era were written whilst when he was a kid and influenced by The Goon Show and Monty Python

Lady Chatterley's Lover is a novel by D. H. Lawrence, first published in 1928. The first edition was printed in Florence, Italy
it could not be published openly in the United Kingdom until 1960. (A private edition was issued by Inky Stephensen's Mandrake Press in 1929).
The book soon became notorious for its story of the physical relationship between a working-class man and an aristocratic woman, its explicit descriptions of sex, and its use of (at the time) unprintable words.
The story is said to have originated from events in Lawrence's own unhappy domestic life, and he took inspiration for the settings of the book from Eastwood in Nottinghamshire where he grew up. According to some critics, the fling of Lady Ottoline Morrell with 'Tiger', a young stonemason who came to carve plinths for her garden statues, also influenced the story.
Lawrence at one time considered calling the novel Tenderness and made significant alterations to the text and story in the process of its composition. It has been published in three different versions.
The story concerns a young married woman, Constance (Lady Chatterley), whose upper-class husband, Clifford Chatterley, has been paralyzed and rendered impotent. Her sexual frustration leads her into an affair with the gamekeeper, Oliver Mellors. This novel is about Constance's realization that she cannot live with the mind alone
she must also be alive physically.
Even by chapter three Connie's jerking and twitching runs through her body like restlessness...

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4527546693 - 'These are the sunday helpers who feed the congregation at a hut rear of the church yard. There is a veritable Easter themed feast. I stumbled upon one of the ladies by chance and she kindly let me see the food spread.
The Collegiate Church of St Nicholas Buccleuch, formerly known as Dalkeith Parish Church, stands on the High Street. Dedicated to St Nicholas, this medieval church became a collegiate establishment in 1406, founded by Sir James Douglas. The nave and transepts date from 1854, when the inside of the church was greatly altered. The chancel was abandoned in 1590, walled off from the rest of the church, and is now ruinous. Sir James Douglas, 1st Earl of Morton, and his wife Joanna, daughter of James I, are buried in the choir and have stone effigies. St Nicholas Buccleuch Church remains one of the two Church of Scotland parish churches in Dalkeith.
The ladies had prepared some Hot Cross Buns. These have a chequered history. These are traditionally eaten hot or toasted on Good Friday, with the cross standing as a symbol of The Crucifixion. They are believed by some to pre-date Christianity, although the first recorded use of the term 'hot cross bun' is not until 1733.
Legend has it that buns marked with a cross were eaten by Saxons in honour of the goddess Eostre (the cross is thought to have symbolised the four quarters of the moon). 'Eostre' is probably the origin of the name 'Easter' too
According to cookery writer Elizabeth David, Protestant English monarchs saw the buns as a dangerous hold-over of Catholic belief in England, being baked from the dough used in making the communion wafer. Protestant England attempted to ban the sale of the buns by bakers but they were too popular, and instead Elizabeth I passed a law permitting bakeries to sell them, but only at Easter and Christmas.
Unfortunately I did not have time to sample any of these delights.

I would personally go for button one, indulgence.
Intelligent drinks machine, somewhere along the lines of the Red Dwarf 'Talkie Toaster' (the machine that could only engage you on a conversation about bread products and methods of toasting).
For students of vending and related arts, this model did actually do tea &
coffee too to everyone in the office.

10/12 Afternoon Tea
María Carmen was unusual in enjoying tea rather than the Spanish default of coffee. She introduced him to the ‘teterias’around Granada and the arab Menta Poleo. More importantly she tipped him off to the tea sold at spice stores around the cathedral more like from his teenage years. The Té Pakistani became their favourite. The relief of the cooler evenings of autumn were interrupted by a call from home.
Mother rushed into hospital, acute appendicitis.
Before a flight was properly booked, she was gone. Slipped away to join his father....
