Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3BR177K - Abbey Presbyterian Church is a church located at Parnell Square, Dublin. Designed by architect Andrew Heiton of Perth, Scotland, it is a decorated Gothic building, with a spire 180 feet (54.9 m) high. The church was erected in 1864 with funding from Alexander Findlater (1797?1873), a Dublin merchant and philanthropist, and is known colloquially as Findlater's church, and it is referred to in two of James Joyce's novels as Findlater's Church.
The Church was built on the north eastern corner of Rutland (now Parnell) Square and North Frederick Street. It was built on the site of Headfort House (sometimes Bective House), which was owned by the Earl of Bective (also the Marquess of Headfort), and named after his family's County Meath estate at Headfort House. The Earl had moved from a house of the same name in Smithfield which had by that time become an unfashionable district.
One of the first preachers was John Hall (1829?1898).
The congregation had previously, from 1667 until 1864, worshipped on Capel Street, on the site of the old St. Mary's Abbey. It was founded by a preacher from Bull Alley, the Rev. William Jacque, who left along with some of its congregation to form the new church. The Capel Street Congregation was sometimes incorrectly referred to as the Scots Church, and confused with the Scots Presbyterian Church, Lower Abbey Street. In 1778 during Rev. McDowell's ministry, the congregation renamed itself Mary's Abbey Congregation (whence the Abbey Presbyterian Church gets its name).
In 1911 Abbey Church, along with other Presbyterian churches, The Scots Church, Ormond Quay church and Union Chapel, founded Lindsay Road National School.
In 1918 the Union Chapel, on Lower Abbey Street, whose chapel had been damaged during the 1916 Rising, joined the Abbey Presbyterian Church

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RCC5RK - Lilium GmbH is a German aerospace company which is the developer of the Lilium Jet, an electrically powered personal air vehicle capable of VTOL flight.
History
Lilium GmbH was founded in 2015 by four engineers and PhD students at the Technical University of Munich, Daniel Wiegand, Sebastian Born, Matthias Meiner and Patrick Nathen.
The Lilium Eagle, an unmanned two-seat proof of concept model, performed its maiden flight at the airfield Mindelheim-Mattsies near Munich in Germany on 20 April 2017. The Lilium Jet five-seater prototype Phoenix first flew in May 2019. The prototype was powered by 36 electrically-powered jacketed-propellers mounted in movable flaps that can point down for vertical takeoff and gradually moved to a horizontal position to provide forward thrust. The five-seat Lilium Jet is capable of achieving a top speed of 300km/h and targets a range of 300 km
In January 2020 Aerokurier published a report which stated that Lilium could not meet its stated aircraft performance goals and would only be able to fly for two minutes at a time. The anonymously-authored report was dismissed by the company but later backed up by four German aerospace academics who wrote that Lilium was using brilliant PR to create an illusory world to attract investors.
In February 2021, Forbes published an article citing a number of former employees that stated the development of Lilium's aircraft was dogged by problems and that the flight test campaign made minimal progress

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2NW51H9 - Qatar Airways Company Q.C.S.C. operating as Qatar Airways, is the state-owned flag carrier airline of Qatar. Headquartered in the Qatar Airways Tower in Doha, the airline operates a hub-and-spoke network, using a fleet of more than 200 aircraft. Qatar Airways Group employs more than 43,000 people. The carrier has been a member of the Oneworld alliance since October 2013, the first Persian Gulf carrier to sign with one of the three major airline alliances.
The State of Qatar was a joint-owner member of Gulf Air along with Oman, The UAE (only the Emirate of Abu Dhabi), and Kingdom of Bahrain, until May 2002, following its withdrawal. It became the first country among the three to withdraw from the Airline to solely focus on its own airline Qatar Airways, although it remained a member of the airline for six months after the government announced its complete withdrawal.
Foundation
Qatar Airways was established by the government of Qatar on November 22, 1993
operations started on January 20, 1994
The Qatar Airways Group ?which included Qatar Airways, Doha International Airport and corporate business air services, ground handling and in-flight catering companies? reported its first profit ever for the fiscal year (FY) that ended on March 2004
In 2013, The Economist claimed that a perusal of online forums used by cabin crew suggests that Qatar has a reputation for severity among industry professionals, including allegations of harsh treatment and overbearing scrutiny are commonplace, and that the conditions laid down by Qatar Airways go beyond more familiar rules ... the employee can be fired if she becomes pregnant (which she is contractually obliged to disclose 'from the date of her knowledge of its occurrence'). The airways' CEO Akbar Al Baker has previously stated, We are not running an intelligence agency, we are an airline company. The reason why I know everything happening in the company is ... I'm simply everywhere, talking to everyone, listening to them

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2ABJGBC - The Barras is a major street and indoor weekend market in the East End of Glasgow, Scotland. The term barra is Glaswegian dialect for barrow, relating to the market's early years, where traders sold their wares from handcarts. Barrowland is sometimes used to describe the district itself where the market is located, which is actually officially known as Calton.
Because of its location on Gallowgate ? the main thoroughfare from the city centre to Parkhead and Celtic Park, Barrowlands is also notable for its large concentration of public houses and shops devoted to fans of Celtic Football Club. Baird's Bar was one of the best known Celtic-oriented pubs next door to the Barrowland Ballroom building, the bar has since closed down due to violent incidents that have occurred in the premises. The bar is to be reopened as a furniture store.
Glasgow Antiques and Randalls Antique and vintage Center, the Cartwheel and the Square Yard can all be found next to the Squirrel Bar.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2A0TWPF - Virgin Atlantic, a trading name of Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited and Virgin Atlantic International Limited, is a British airline with its head office in Crawley, United Kingdom. The airline was established in 1984 as British Atlantic Airways, and was originally planned by its co-founders Randolph Fields and Alan Hellary to fly between London and the Falkland Islands. Soon after changing the name to Virgin Atlantic Airways, Fields sold his shares in the company after disagreements with Sir Richard Branson over the management of the company. The maiden flight from Gatwick Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport took place on 22 June 1984.
The airline along with Virgin Holidays is controlled by a holding company, Virgin Atlantic Limited, which is 51% owned by the Virgin Group and 49% by Delta Air Lines. It is administratively separate from other Virgin-branded airlines. Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited and Virgin Atlantic International Limited both hold Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Type A Operating Licences (AOC numbers 534 and 2435 respectively), both of which permit these airlines, operating as Virgin Atlantic Airways, to carry passengers, cargo and mail on aircraft with 20 or more seats.
Virgin Atlantic uses a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing wide-body aircraft and operates to destinations in North America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East and Asia from its main bases in London (Heathrow and Gatwick), and its secondary base at Manchester. The airline also operates seasonal flights from Glasgow and Belfast. Virgin Atlantic aircraft consist of three cabins: Economy, Premium (formerly Premium economy) and Upper Class (business).
In 2012, Virgin Atlantic carried 5.4 million passengers, making it the seventh-largest UK airline in terms of passenger volume. On 31 December 2013, it reported a ?œ51 million group pre-tax loss (approximately US$87 million)
however, in the year to 31 December 2014 the airline reported a return to pre-tax profit of ?œ14.4m

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RBJ9WK - In New York City, taxicabs come in two varieties: yellow and green
they are widely recognizable symbols of the city. Taxis painted canary yellow (medallion taxis) are able to pick up passengers anywhere in the five boroughs. Those painted apple green (street hail livery vehicles, commonly known as boro taxis), which began to appear in August 2013, are allowed to pick up passengers in Upper Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens (excluding LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport), and Staten Island. Both types have the same fare structure. Taxicabs are operated by private companies and licensed by the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC). It also oversees over 40,000 other for-hire vehicles, including black cars, commuter vans and ambulettes.
Taxicab vehicles, each of which must have a medallion to operate, are driven an average of 180 miles per shift. As of March 14, 2014, there were 51,398 individuals licensed to drive medallion taxicabs. There were 13,605 taxicab medallion licenses in existence. By July 2016, that number had dropped slightly to 13,587 medallions, or 18 lower than the 2014 total. Taxi patronage has declined since 2011 due to competition from rideshare services.

It consists of a bus station on Stamford Road, a Northern Rail-operated heavy rail station on the Mid-Cheshire Line, and a light rail stop which forms the terminus of Metrolink's Altrincham Line.
The original heavy rail element of the station was opened by the Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway as Altrincham and Bowdon railway station in April 1881, changing to Altrincham railway station in May 1974. The Metrolink element opened in June 1992. The Interchange underwent a complete redevelopment, at a cost of ?œ19 million, starting in mid-July 2013. The new bus station opened officially on 7 December 2014.
Altrincham Interchange has four platforms. Two bay platforms are used for Metrolink services. Two further through platforms accommodate train services on the line between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester via Stockport. A bus station on the edge of the complex provides road-based interchange, and there is also a taxi rank.

New Dock was built in 1843 and was in service until 1990. The Royal Armouries Museum opened in 1996. New Dock was redeveloped as Clarence Dock, a ?œ250 million mixed-use development between 2001 and 2007. The retail and leisure sector was launched on Saturday 11 October 2008 with fashion shows from celebrity fashion consultant and TV presenter Gok Wan. Leeds Dock now attracts around 1.5 million visitors a year although most of these are due to the proximity of the Royal Armouries Museum. Clarence Dock experienced a turbulent time since launch and is largely viewed as a failure in terms of achieving its initial vision.
It is located by the River Aire next to the Royal Armouries Museum, which faces onto Armouries Square. Leeds Dock's main shopping street, 'The Boulevard' radiates southbound from Armouries Square. Another focal point is 'The Anchorage' at the top of the dock. Clarence House is a 218-foot (66 m) tower containing 227 apartments and six retail units. On completion in April 2007, it became the eighth tallest building in Leeds but is now the twelfth tallest building.
Leeds Dock plays host to an annual Waterfront Festival each June with Dragon Boat Racing centred on Armouries Square.

This track, a slab of French electro punk from 1978 was pioneering indie label Rough Trade's catalogue number 001. Its in a giant box of vinyl singles in my loft, a bit scratchy and battered!
I have heard it said that the world was probably not quite ready for them at the time. Not fitting into any cosy new wave pigeonhole. Not electronic enough to be classed with the Sheffield set of the (old Ware-Marsh-Oakey) Human League / Cab Voltaire, not punky enough to be filed with Clash or Buzzcocks.
As a side note, check our the HM's 'Being Boiled' and the excellently surreal 'Black Hit Of Space' (I reached for the tone arm which was less than 1 micron long but weighed more than Saturn and timestood still ... Get James Burke on the case... Genius Lyrics www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBaL3cPxDbE )
Métal Urbain was one of the first French punk groups, formed in 1976 in Paris. They were heavily influenced by The Clash and The Sex Pistols on one hand, and on the other by an electro approach related to Metal Machine Music by Lou Reed.
They relied on heavily distorted guitars and replaced the traditional rock rhythm section of bass guitar/drums with a synthesizer and drum machine, a then-unique approach that foreshadowed the experimental possibilities that were explored by later post-hardcore bands such as Big Black. They were also known for their radical image (the color scheme of albums always being a stark black, white and red), and subversive lyrics sung in French.
They were met with much enthusiasm in England, particularly by John Peel and the Rough Trade label. (Métal Urbain's single 'Paris Maquis' was Rough Trade's first release.) They had an enthusiastic but small audience in France, receiving little exposure. The punk rock scene was not as popular in France as it was in England, and they did not interest the French media as English bands like the Sex Pistols did. As a result, the band broke up by 1979, though members scattered to form such groups as Metal Boys, Doctor Mix and the Remix, and Desperados, as well as joining Ashpalt Jungle.
Métal Urbain had focused their efforts on singles, and only produced one album, Les hommes morts sont dangereux, during their first period of activity . However, several compilation records were released, gathering their singles with additional material such as BBC sessions and live recordings.
Their electro approach was very innovative for its time, and the group are a reference point for such groups as The Jesus and Mary Chain, Bérurier Noir, and the producer Steve Albini.
The French capital had 15,500 taxis Parisian beginning 2007. Taxi stations are organized into three categories: 28 major stations are installed near the main sites of tourist or large places of the city with taxis present 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. 90 district stations located near the main interchanges and 316 local stations located near public buildings (hospitals, hotels, theatres...) .
A taxi is free when this luminous roof device is illuminated in white or green, and repeaters off globes. When it is busy, the luminous roof device is turned off or lit in red and the Repeater globe is illuminated in white (A rate), orange (tariff B) or blue (tariff C), depending on the time13. Parisian taxis perform on average 200,000 journeys every day. Whatever tariff you may be on, ensure you have a pocket full of Euros, fives and tens are most useful.

In the United Kingdom, the name hackney carriage today refers to a taxicab licensed by the Public Carriage Office, local authority (non-metropolitan district councils, unitary authorities) or the Department of the Environment depending on region of the country.
Motorised hackney cabs in the UK are known as black cabs, although they are now produced in a variety of colours, sometimes in advertising brand liveries. The 50 golden cabs produced for the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002 were notable

It is located on the former site of East India House in Lime Street, in London's main financial district, the City of London. The building is a leading example of radical Bowellism architecture in which the services for the building, such as ducts and lifts, are located on the exterior to maximise space in the interior.
Twenty-five years after completion in 1986, the building received Grade I listing in 2011
it was the youngest structure ever to obtain this status. It is said by Historic England to be universally recognised as one of the key buildings of the modern epoch

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HEEFD2 - Murals in Northern Ireland have become symbols of Northern Ireland, depicting the region's past and present political and religious divisions.
Belfast and Derry contain arguably the most famous political murals in Europe. It is believed that almost 2,000 murals have been documented since the 1970s. In 2014, the book, The Belfast Mural Guide estimated that, in Belfast, there were approximately 300 quality murals on display, with many more in varying degrees of age and decay. Murals commemorate, communicate and display aspects of culture and history. The themes of murals often reflect what is important to a particular community. A mural therefore exists to express an idea or message and could generally be seen as reflecting values held dear to that community.
In Irish republican areas the themes of murals can range from the 1981 Irish hunger strike, with particular emphasis on strike leader Bobby Sands
murals of international solidarity with revolutionary groups are equally common, as are those which highlight a particular issue, for example the Ballymurphy Massacre or the McGurk's Bar bombing. In working class unionist communities, murals are used to promote Ulster loyalist paramilitary groups such as the Ulster Defence Association and Ulster Volunteer Force and commemorate their deceased members. However traditional themes such as William III of England and the Battle of the Boyne, the Battle of the Somme and the 36th Ulster Division are equally common

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AE02EN - Ask for Angela is the name of a campaign in England that started in 2016 that is used by bars and other venues to keep people safe from sexual assault by using a codeword to identify when they are in danger or are in an uncomfortable situation. When an establishment uses this program, a person who believes themselves to be in danger can ask for Angela, a fictitious member of the staff. The staff will then help the person get home discreetly and safely by either escorting them to a different room, calling them a taxi and escorting them to it, or by asking the other party member to leave the establishment.
Posters are placed on the stall doors inside toilets of the establishments where the campaign is being implemented. The poster introduces Angela and asks several questions for one to reflect on the current position they are in. The Lincolnshire Rape Crisis hotline number is also listed on the bottom of the poster. The program is not gender specific and aims to help all people, so posters are placed in all toilets in the establishment. Posters are placed on the stall doors inside toilets of the establishments where the campaign is being implemented. Not all bars and restaurants in Lincolnshire and around the world participate in the campaign, so staff cannot be expected to know the protocol when someone asks for Angela at these places. Staff at the bars and pubs that do participate have been trained and will know what to do.
The program started in Lincolnshire, England, by Hayley Child, the Substance Misuse Strategy Coordinator for Lincolnshire County Council. Child started the campaign as a part of a much larger campaign, #NoMore, to decrease sexual violence and abuse
