Fast-forward to the present day and it is scarcely recognisable. Half of the complex has been demolished, most of the units lie empty and the crowds have long disappeared elsewhere, as online shopping continues to eat away at the high street's fortunes.
Northwich's Cllr Sam Naylor said: It's been tragic. We've seen it decline from what was a thriving, 70s-style shopping precinct into a scene, not of dereliction, but something that smacks of a past era of post-war modern Britain.
Following the recent and sad closure of the much-loved Seafarer, many residents questioned what was happening with the long-planned redevelopment of Weaver Square, which lies mere feet away from the chippy.
Cheshire West and Chester Council acquired the lease of the site back in 2014, by which time many of the units already stood empty. The authority took it over after the previous owner of Weaver Square ceased trading in 2012.
Since then, there have been a number of ideas about what do with the site. But the shopping centre continued to lie mostly-dormant, despite it being partly-demolished in 2019 amid promises of regeneration.
Northwich would then be hit by misfortune after misfortune : the outdoor market was gutted by fire in early 2020
the Covid pandemic caused economic chaos across the world
the devastating flooding in 2021 left many businesses badly damaged
and the town's railway station collapsed in April last year.

The Angel Hotel was a large Georgian Building located where the Natwest Bank is today. It was one of the most important buildings in the town, and much business was conducted there. A 16 year old Princess Victoria stayed there whilst visiting the town, two year before she was to become Queen.
Damage, through subsidence, resulted in the building developing a leaning appearance and was described by an American visitor as not having, a straight line in it, either vertically or horizontally. The building was eventually demolished in 1924.

In September Woolworth started operating as 162 store chain down from 310. During the insolvency the Austrian branches were separated from the German chain in October and bought by bluO an Austrian financial investor, 9 of the 12 stores were later rebranded to Adler and the others closed.
In 2010 Woolworth was sold to HH Holding a subsidiary of the Tengelmann Group (which owns KiK and OBI) and by July 1 the headquarters had moved from Frankfurt to Unna. By the end of 2011 the store number had risen to over 200.
In February 2016 the chain opened its 300th branch in Dortmund city centre

It offers free admission, and has a programme of special exhibitions. It was renamed The Wilson in honour of polar explorer Edward Wilson, a son of Cheltenham, in 2013 after the building was extended. The gallery and museum is managed by The Cheltenham Trust.
The museum is housed in part of a Regency building on Clarence Street (Cheltenham Library currently occupies much of the original building), designed as the Cheltenham Public Library by architect William Hill Knight, who also designed the Cheltenham Synagogue and Montpellier Walk.
In 2007 a national architectural design competition was launched by RIBA Competitions to extend the building, providing more space for the renowned Arts and Crafts collection. Through this process Berman Guedes Stretton were selected by Cheltenham Borough Council and the extension was completed in 2012.
Baron de Ferrieres, a former Mayor and Liberal MP for Cheltenham, gave 43 important paintings, mostly from Belgium and the Netherlands, to the town. He also donated £1,000 towards the building of a gallery in which to display them. The Museum was opened in 1907 in the adjacent former Schools of Art and Science. A major extension to the building by Hugh Casson was opened by the Princess Royal in September 1989, where the main entrance to the gallery is now situated.
The museum is particularly noted for its Arts and Crafts collection of furniture, textiles, ceramics, carvings, silver and jewellery which is recognised as an outstanding collection of international importance for which the Art Gallery & Museum has received Designated status.
Cheltenham's history is well represented, and in addition there are paintings spanning four centuries, oriental collections of pottery and costume, and archaeological treasures from the neighbouring Cotswolds.

The street roughly follows the line of the via praetoria of Eboracum, the Roman city, which ran between what are now St Helen's Square and York Minster.
The street appears to have lost importance in the Anglian and Jorvik period. York Minster was rebuilt in the 11th century, and stone for it was brought up the road, from a quay behind what is now York Guildhall. This appears to have brought the street back to prominence, and new building plots were laid adjoining the north-eastern part of the street. This part of the street lay in the Liberty of St Peter's, associated with the Minster, and many of its buildings belonged to the church, the whole area soon becoming built up, mostly with tenements. The street was known as Stonegate by 1119, probably named for stone paving, which would have been unique in the city at the time, although an alternative theory links the name to the stone hauled up to the Minster.
Because of the location of the street, it has historically been used for civic processions, from the York Guildhall to the Minster. It was also the site where three of the historic York Mystery Plays were performed. In 1570, Guy Fawkes was born at a house on the street.
Nikolaus Pevsner described the street as perhaps the most attractive [street in the city], and one of the busiest. Narrow, quite long, and with a variety of good things. Due to its popularity with tourists, the street was pedestrianised in 1974. It was repaved in York stone in 2020

Trams entered through an arch at the centre of the Birchfields Road frontage 2.5 miles of track much of which was supported on iron columns Almost the entire floor was constructed 4 feet 6 inches below the track level for inspection purposes. Facilities included offices and stores, its own telephone exchange and entertainment hall where music was performed live. In 1947, conversion to a bus garage began. Birchfield Road formed the terminus for the last four trams to run in ceremonial procession from Piccadilly on 10 January 1949. The depot continued in use as a bus depot until 1986. Following its sale a few years later the building was demolished and the site redeveloped as a retail park.

When the main part of the Mander Centre opened in 1968, the Central Arcade retained its Edwardian architecture and was refurbished as the main entrance to the Mander Centre from Dudley Street.
In May 1974 the Central Arcade was destroyed by a severe fire that reduced it to rubble, which was declared unsafe and was subsequently demolished. The area was later rebuilt as the entrance to the centre
The centre was refurbished in 1987, when it was described as a covered pedestrianised shopping complex at the centre of the principal shopping area of Wolverhampton with more than 150 shops.
In 2003 the centre embarked on a further multi-million pound refurbishment programme. It was an opportunity to complete the enclosure of the centre to make it fully climate controlled. The marble floor in the entire centre was replaced along with the relocation of the escalators and stairways. The biggest change was the creation of the large New Look store which took over numerous stores.
Throughout 2016 and 2017, the centre was refurbished and configured as part of the £25 million investment, and a series of new larger stores was created, forcing some stores to close down and relocate within the centre. WH Smith and Tesco were closed, and Superdrug relocated. The reconfiguration was also to include new escalators and lifts, the removal of the Lower Central Arcade and the relocation of the toilets.
On 18 November 2016 H&M was the first major store to open as part of the shopping centre's multimillion-pound redevelopment.

A stronger variant called Magnet is also available in the North East of England. John Smith's Cask and Magnet are produced under licence by Cameron's in Hartlepool.
John Smith acquired the Backhouse & Hartley brewery in 1852. Following a series of acquisitions in the post-World War II period, the company became one of the largest regional brewers in the country, operating over 1,800 licensed premises. The company was taken over by Courage in 1970 who extended distribution of the brewery's products into the South of England. Courage was acquired by Scottish & Newcastle in 1995, and the operations were purchased by Heineken in 2008.
John Smith's Extra Smooth and Original are produced at the Tadcaster brewery, as well as a range of Heineken products including Amstel and Kronenbourg 1664. With a 38 million litre capacity, the brewery is one of the largest in the country.
John Smith's became well known for a series of highly successful No Nonsense-themed television advertising campaigns, featuring the dour Yorkshireman character Arkwright during the 1970s and 1980s (shown only in the South of England), followed by the comedians Jack Dee during the 1990s and Peter Kay since 2002. The brand also has an association with horse racing: it was the principal sponsor of the Grand National between 2005 and 2013, the Northumberland Plate from 2003 until 2016, and has sponsored the John Smith's Cup since 1960.

The present gateway dates from 1768 and is a three-arched sandstone structure which carries the walkway forming part of Chester city walls. In 1899 a clock was added to the top of the gateway to celebrate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria two years earlier. It is carried on openwork iron pylons, has a clock face on all four sides, and a copper ogee cupola. The clock was designed by the Chester architect John Douglas. The whole structure, gateway and clock, was designated as a Grade I listed building on 28 July 1955

Tower has paired first-floor windows with banded shafts
tripartite oriel window over, and pediment carried on volutes above space for clock (now a blind panel). Flanking pilasters of tower are enriched with low relief scroll-work etc. in the upper stage. Triglyph frieze below balustraded parapet with domed, columned pilasters. Octagonal turret-like upper stage with wrought-iron screens to openings, and volutes over angles, surmounted by domed roof.
2-window outer ranges each side have windows set in raised panels
stilted arched heads, with stone incised architraves to first floor, and wrought-iron balconettes to second. Modillion eaves cornice. right-hand range then has additional bay with paired windows to each floor, and then has wide pedimented gable adjoining entrance tower, with tripartite windows on upper floors in stone architraves with wrought-iron balconettes to second floor. right-hand section is built over the River Croal, and is carried on a 2-arched bridge of rusticated stone.
Main body of Victoria Hall projects as wing from rear of street range: Entrance hall with tall transomed windows to stairs, then main hall a 3 storey, 3-window range with tripartite windows to first floor, and segmentally arched 4-light mullioned and transomed windows to upper storey. Transomed windows with round arched lights to basement storey. 5-storey service range at west.
INTERIOR: entrance passage leads to large entrance hall to rear of shop premises

Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG is a German international discount supermarket chain that operates over 10,000 stores across Europe and the United States. Headquartered in Neckarsulm, Baden-Württemberg, the company belongs to the Schwarz Group, which also operates the hypermarket chain Kaufland.
Lidl opened its first UK store in 1994. Since then, Lidl UK has grown consistently, and today has over 800 stores. While it is still a small player in the United Kingdom, with a grocery market share of less than 5%, its importance, along with that of continental, no-frills competitor Aldi is growing, with half of the shoppers in the United Kingdom visiting Aldi or Lidl over Christmas 2014.
The Lidl operation in the United Kingdom took a different approach than in Germany, with a focus on marketing and public relations, and providing employee benefits not required by law, including paying the independently verified living wage and offering a staff discount. Upmarket products were introduced, especially in the lead-up to Christmas. This required significant investment in marketing to produce sales growth but had an effect on Lidl's logistical operation and pressure on profits. Ronny Gottschlich, who had run Lidl UK for the six years to 2016, was responsible for this approach, which led to friction with head office, due to the cost involved. In September 2016, Gottschlich unexpectedly left and was replaced by the Austrian sales and operations director, German-national Christian Härtnagel. Lidl continued to have ambitious investment plans in the United Kingdom, ultimately doubling the number of stores to 1,500. Howard Ben Tre died earlier this summer, aged 71.
Described as a 'larger than life character' he was famed in the art world for his large-scale glass sculptures.
But his work in Warrington was rather different.
Howard and first wife Gay won a contest to create public art on Bridge Street and Market Gate after the devastating bombing of 1993. The work was finished in 1999.
The couple spent two years overseeing the town centre's transformation, replacing the main thoroughfare with trees, fountains, seating and sculpture that connected the shops.
Growing up in New York, he lived in Rhode Island where he has a studio.
Howard and Gay, both active in protesting the Vietnam War, married when they were 21.
We had a very adventurous life together, Gay Ben Tré said. He once told her: Without me, we wouldn't have had as many adventures
without you, we wouldn't have survived.
His second wife Wendy MacGaw told the Providence Journal he was a 'force of nature'.
Howard returned to Warrington in 2009, ten years after the skittles and fountains had first been revealed.
Cllr Mike Hannon, who came up with the idea for the artwork, said it had helped to transform Warrington.
He added: Howard was actually talking about Warrington at an event in York and he got to see it with the trees matured.
It was controversial at the time but if I was asked would I do it again, I would say definitely yes.
I believe in the rationale behind it and experts say we would not have had the investment in the Golden Square with all the money and jobs that brought without the public artworks.

City Arcade was design by T.W.F Newton and Cheattle whom also designed numerous other building through Birmingham such as Fighting Cocks in Moseley, 143 Edmund Street, 41 Church Street and 56-60 Newhall Street. Sadly T.W.F Newton passed away at 40 years old.
It was built in 1898 originally it was two separate building the one that currently stands today and the grander one that intersected with the Midland Arcade which was sadly destroy on the 9th and 10th April 1941 during two heavy raids during WWII.
The remaining part of City Arcade closed in 1961 as part of a redevelopment plan for the city, the plans did not materialise and the arcade was boarded up and became an eyesore and full of rubbish and was threaded with the prospect of demolition. In 1972 the arcade was given a whole new lease of life and received £80,000 investment by Ravenseft Properties Ltd and work was overseen by Cotton, Ballard and Blow.

The shop was originally located in Afflecks Palace and has recently moved to its present location on Stevenson Square (5a Stevenson Sq, Northern Quarter, Manchester, M1 1DN) in 2011. It soon became a cultural icon and integral part within the Manchester music scene. Back in the late 80's E Bloc helped to launch bands such as the Inspiral Carpets, while also hosting in-store signings with The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays. The shop was also responsible for breaking much of the new dance music at the time, being one of the only shops in the UK to import dance music from around the globe. One of the owners went on to become part of 808 State. E Bloc also had heavy involvement in the early career paths of A Guy Called Gerald & K Klass. Many famous faces have worked behind the counter or been regular customers in the shop. Local DJ's and globe trotting club DJ's would use E Bloc as their first port of call to get their hands on the latest vinyl promos. Sedgemoor District Council's Corporate Scrutiny committee, under the chairmanship of Westover Councillor Brian Smedley, has reviewed the Council's response to the Grenfell Tower fire disaster in its own hi-rise properties and has concluded that all necessary steps have been taken to re-assure tenants and where there was cause for concern measures are being introduced to improve the situation.
On 14 June at about 1am, a fire started on the 4th floor of the Grenfell Tower block in London housing some 600 people. Grenfell Tower had 24 floors with 6 flats per floor, an alarm system that worked and the Fire Brigade in immediate attendance yet at least 80 died most of them in 23 of the blocks 129 flats
Ward Councillor Brian Smedley immediately called for urgent review of safety measures
On the morning of 14th June, Scrutiny Chair Cllr Smedley visited Sedgemoor's (and Somerset's) only tower block, Westfield House and nearby lo-rise blocks around West Street. Hi Rise blocks are defined as anything above 18 metres'-usually 5 storeys or more. Noting resident's concerns he immediately wrote to Chief Executive Kerry Rickards and SDC Leader Duncan McGinty asking for a swift Council response to re-assure tenants and offered to hold a Scrutiny meeting at which residents and Homes in Sedgemoor officers could participate.
Cllr Smedley said The key question asked was How can a small kitchen fire in one flat lead to this catastrophe? How could it happen there and could it happen here?' Residents raised four areas of concern -The Stay Put Policy, the lack of a central sprinkler system, the lack of a central Fire Alarm and , crucially, the Cladding used which seemed to have contributed to the spread of the fire. We felt a Scrutiny Working Party should look at these issues first and present a full and open report to be put on the table for the public

Smoking generally has negative health effects, because smoke inhalation inherently poses challenges to various physiologic processes such as respiration. Smoking caused over five million deaths a year from 1990 to 2015.
Smoking is one of the most common forms of recreational drug use. Tobacco smoking is the most popular form, being practiced by over one billion people globally, of whom the majority are in the developing countries. Less common drugs for smoking include cannabis and opium. Some of the substances are classified as hard narcotics, like heroin, but the use of these is very limited as they are usually not commercially available.

It was produced by Lime Pictures with filming taking place in the spring of 2014. The site, formerly the Shambles, a meat market dating from the medieval period, was redeveloped as a shopping arcade in 18957. The architect was Jonathon Ellis. Originally named Digbeth Arcade, it has been restored in recent years, and renamed Victorian Arcade. The T shaped plan is unchanged from the original design.
Inside the arcade there are entrances on Bradford Street on the north-west, Digbeth Street on the north-east and Lower Hall Lane on the south-east. The frontage on Bradford Street has a first-floor balcony of five bays: there are iron ballustrades, with shops and office chambers behind. There are timber oriel windows on the floor above. There was originally a five-bay upper floor on the Digbeth Street frontage, replaced during the 20th century.
