Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RJCCBM - Taken on 19 Aug 2023, this photograph shows Modern conical Roman Catholic, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral 1967, Mount Pleasant, , Merseyside, England, UK, L3 5TQ. The location is Mount Pleasant, Liverpool, Merseyside, England, UK, L3 5TQ. The picture is not just a record shot: it contains architectural or decorative detail with strong colour, lettering and religious, civic or commemorative symbolism. Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King was consecrated in 1967 to designs by Frederick Gibberd, and its centralised modernist form has become one of the city's most distinctive landmarks. Its national importance was underlined when the cathedral's listed status was upgraded to Grade I in 2025, strengthening the image's relevance for architecture, faith and heritage features. It can support articles on architecture, faith, heritage conservation, public art, tourism, local identity and the way historic or modern buildings remain active in daily city life. For image buyers, the value is in the combination of recognisable subject, readable wording, location evidence and a plain documentary style that can be dropped into news, magazine, web, council, housing, transport, heritage or commercial commentary without looking over-produced. Searchable related phrases include religion, religious, conical, Mount Pleasant, Metropolitan Cathedral, Roman Catholic, stained, glass, panel, Liverpool, Merseyside, history, plus wider ideas such as local identity, public realm, urban detail, social history, commercial change, everyday Britain, documentary photography and place-based storytelling. The composition gives designers scope for captions, page furniture, social media crops, report covers and article thumbnails, while the detailed captioning makes it more discoverable for searches using both specific place names and broader themes.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K3ECM3 - This image, taken on 25 Sep 2022, records East Cliff steps up to the Whitby Abbey ruins and down to the harbour - Whitby, Scarborough Council, North East Yorkshire, England, UK, YO22 4JT. The thumbnail has been used to shape the wording around the actual visual emphasis, including whether the frame is a close-up, a street view, a building elevation, a museum object, a sign, a waterway scene or a wider local context. Whitby Abbey is one of England's most recognisable coastal ruins, strongly linked with monastic history, tourism, cliff-top views, gothic imagination and the wider cultural memory of the Yorkshire coast. For stock photography use, the value is in the precise subject: East Cliff steps up to the Whitby Abbey ruins and down to the harbour - Whitby, Scarborough Council, North East Yorkshire, England, UK, YO22 4JT. It can support articles and publications about parish church history, stained glass research, religious art, genealogy, local families, Anglican heritage, memorial inscriptions, church tourism, architectural detail, conservation, as well as more specific searches using Whitby, North East Yorkshire, Scarborough Council, harbour, abbey, Eastcliff, East Cliff, YO22, walking, down, YO22 4JT, North East, Yorkshire, step, hill, steps, cottages, travel. The composition also gives space for tighter crops, captions, web thumbnails, report illustrations and social media use, while the Alamy reference 2K3ECM3 and the row caption help connect the image to a real place rather than a vague concept. The picture can be used by writers covering heritage, conservation, planning, tourism, retail, transport, public services, nostalgia, local identity, architectural survival, industrial change and the way familiar objects or buildings continue to carry meaning in modern Britain.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K1NK7C - St Michael and All Angels Church stands on Warhill overlooking the village of Mottram in Longdendale, Greater Manchester, England. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield and the deanery of Mottram
The earliest evidence of a church on the site is in 1225 when clergy attached to the church were witnesses to local documents. There is a further reference to the church in a taxation document dated 1291. The present church dates from the end of the 15th century. A major restoration took place in 1854“55 by E. H. Shellard, during which the nave roof was raised
The church is built from local stone quarried from Tinsell-Norr in Perpendicular style. The plan consists of a west tower, a five-bay nave with a clerestory, north and south aisles, a two-bay chancel and a south porch. At the east end of each aisle is a chapel. The north chapel is known as the Hollingworth Chapel and the south chapel is the Staley Chapel. The tower is in four stages with angled buttresses, a three-light west window above which is a clock face and two-light belfry openings. In one corner is a stair turret. At the top is a castellated parapet with crocketed corner finials.
In the churchyard is a sundial with a dial dated 1811. It consists of a stone shaft with a copper dial and a gnomon. It is listed at Grade II. Also listed at Grade II are the gatepiers, railings, steps and walls of the churchyard. Near the church is a medieval cross which was restored in 1760 and again in 1897, the latter restoration being to celebrate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria. The octagonal shaft stands on a stepped circular ashlar plinth. On its top is a cubical sundial with three copper faces. It is listed at Grade II*

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DB6PFF - Ave Maria Missionaries of Charity Office Liverpool
The Missionaries of Charity in Liverpool offer hospitality to the homeless community. Volunteers assist the work of the Missionaries of Charity in giving out food. After the clients finish their food they often have another cup of tea and a cake and then start to disperse. The volunteers then wash up the dishes, sweep and mop the floor and clean the tables. Some volunteers go around the dining-room and pour out tea for people. On occasion a client may be drunk and become somewhat agitated
on these occasions the nuns step in and sort out the situation. Whilst it can be quite daunting going into the Missionaries of Charity ˜soup-kitchen' at first, volunteers often say they become more confident as the weeks go on, and look forward to returning week after week.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HEEG4G - Murals in Northern Ireland have become symbols of Northern Ireland, depicting the region's past and present political and religious divisions.
Belfast and Derry contain arguably the most famous political murals in Europe. It is believed that almost 2,000 murals have been documented since the 1970s. In 2014, the book, The Belfast Mural Guide estimated that, in Belfast, there were approximately 300 quality murals on display, with many more in varying degrees of age and decay. Murals commemorate, communicate and display aspects of culture and history. The themes of murals often reflect what is important to a particular community. A mural therefore exists to express an idea or message and could generally be seen as reflecting values held dear to that community.
In Irish republican areas the themes of murals can range from the 1981 Irish hunger strike, with particular emphasis on strike leader Bobby Sands
murals of international solidarity with revolutionary groups are equally common, as are those which highlight a particular issue, for example the Ballymurphy Massacre or the McGurk's Bar bombing. In working class unionist communities, murals are used to promote Ulster loyalist paramilitary groups such as the Ulster Defence Association and Ulster Volunteer Force and commemorate their deceased members. However traditional themes such as William III of England and the Battle of the Boyne, the Battle of the Somme and the 36th Ulster Division are equally common

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RPGEKP - Mr Smiths Dream, Manchester Craft Village, 17 Oak St, Manchester, England, UK, M4 5JD gives a direct editorial record of a recognisable subject, with location, signage, architecture or everyday behaviour carrying much of the meaning. Mr Smith's Dream in Manchester Craft and Design Centre reflects the Northern Quarter's mixture of small studios, independent retail, handmade objects and creative micro-businesses. The subject can illustrate craft economies, local makers, design-led shopping, city-centre regeneration, visitor retail and the importance of affordable creative space in post-industrial Manchester. The location detail, Manchester, M4 5JD, strengthens searches for regional features, travel pages, local-history pieces and news use where a named place matters. For buyers, the strength lies in the combination of a named subject, a lived-in setting and enough visual specificity to carry stories about how places are used, remembered, funded, visited or contested.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DJ7B6C - Knightsbridge station London Underground subway England UK works as a grounded stock photograph because the subject is specific, legible and connected to wider social, economic or cultural themes. London Underground scenes are shorthand for the capital's density, speed and dependence on mass transit, whether shown as a busy carriage, station entrance or platform environment. The subject suits stories about commuting, crowding, safety, fare policy, accessibility, tourism, night-time travel and the tension between historic infrastructure and modern passenger demand. Low light, dusk or night conditions add atmosphere and make the subject useful for evening economy, safety and seasonal weather contexts. The location detail, London, Knightsbridge, strengthens searches for regional features, travel pages, local-history pieces and news use where a named place matters. Relevant editorial themes include railway station, passenger rail, train travel and public transport, with each theme rooted in the visible subject, place or activity. The scene has practical value for features needing authentic British or international street-level evidence, especially where policy, culture, business, tourism or social change is easier to explain through one clear example.
