Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3C4CX9N - This plain-speaking location image records Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, given freedom of city at Birmingham Town Hall, Victoria Square with fountains in summer. The row metadata places the subject at Birmingham, Town Hall, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Birmingham. The spreadsheet date indicates 11 July 2025, so the picture can also work as a time-specific archive record. Plainly, the image is useful because it shows Birmingham, Town Hall, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, city, music, Victoria Sq, bankrupt, with search-relevant terms including Birmingham, Town Hall, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, city, music, Victoria Sq, bankrupt, council, Brum, Victoria Square, with, fountains, fountain. The value lies in the combination of place, object, wording and context, giving editors something specific and grounded rather than generic filler imagery. Birmingham has long been a civic, industrial and cultural powerhouse of the Midlands, with major public squares, music history, transport investment and retail change providing strong themes for editorial and documentary use. The subject has strong music heritage value, connecting a visible place with fan culture, tourism, nightlife, popular memory, record-industry history and the commercial afterlife of bands, venues and local scenes. It has strong value for publishers needing authentic documentary imagery for news pages, blog articles, council reports, social media graphics, presentations, magazine features and local-history explainers. Historically and socially, this kind of image can help connect past and present: older streets, civic institutions, transport systems, shops, signs, political messages or public services are not frozen museum pieces, but part of how people understand modern life, local identity and economic change. For SEO and stock-photo discovery, the description deliberately supports searches around Birmingham.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EDKYT4 - A Dundee-themed Tennent's beer pump font is pictured on the bar at The Pillars in Crichton Street, Dundee, with a colourful illustrated design showing local landmarks and the city name wrapped around the tall illuminated tap. The image combines Scottish beer branding, pub interior detail, bar counter culture and local civic identity, making it useful for stories about Tennent's lager, Scottish pubs, Dundee nightlife, draught beer, pub design, branded fonts and the way national beer brands adapt their marketing to local places. The Pillars Bar and Salty Dog Lounge is listed by the Food Standards Agency at 9 Crichton Street, Dundee, DD1 3AP, and CAMRA describes The Pillars as dating back to 1864, believed to be the oldest pub in Dundee, with a loyal regular trade and a handpull for real ale. The image is commercially useful for coverage of Dundee hospitality, historic pubs, city-centre drinking, bar interiors, Scottish beer culture, cask ale, CAMRA pubs, local tourism, pub heritage and the survival of traditional bars in changing high streets. The nearby Schehallion Craft Lager pump, back bar bottles, fridges, warm lighting and polished brass handpulls add documentary value, showing a working pub environment rather than a staged product shot. The tall red Tennent's T-shaped font gives the scene strong visual impact and would suit features on beer marketing, lager sales, branded draught equipment, Scottish brewing, pub chains, independent pubs, local identity and the night-time economy. As a stock image, it records a small but distinctive piece of pub culture, where beer branding, local landmarks, regular customers, tourism and Dundee's long drinking history meet at the bar.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RHH6HG - Among parish churches, it is the third tallest in England. But nothing survives above ground of the original building (a Saxon wooden church), and only the chancel and crypt remain from its successor, the first stone building, which was built in 1354.
Shelled and badly damaged by the Parliamentary forces in the Civil War of the 17th century, the tower of that church had to be rebuilt in 1696, and the nave was rebuilt in l770.
The south aisle was added in the early 19th century, and the whole building was restored between 1859 and 1867, when the present distinctive spire was added. Inside, galleries in the aisles contain pews with doors, and some of the stained glass is by AWN Pugin.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RECE2H - Meadowbank Stadium (officially the Meadowbank Sports Centre) is a multi-purpose sports facility located in the Meadowbank area of Edinburgh, Scotland. Built on the site of the earlier New Meadowbank and Old Meadowbank sports venues, it was originally built to host the 1970 Commonwealth Games. It also hosted the Games in 1986, becoming the first venue to host the Games twice. It is the current home of Scottish League One side Edinburgh City.
The stadium has also regularly hosted football. It was the home ground of Scottish Football League team Meadowbank Thistle between 1974 and 1995, becoming the first all-seated football ground in the UK in the process, it hosted senior non-league football as the home ground of Edinburgh City. League football returned to Meadowbank in 2016 following City's promotion to the Scottish Professional Football League. The Meadowbank complex also hosted Leith Athletic, which played on the Meadowbank 3G artificial pitch adjacent to the main stadium since 2013.
In the early months of 2019 the stadium was demolished and work begun on construction of its replacement. In 2022, following the completion of construction, Edinburgh City returned to Meadowbank.
Meadowbank Stadium was also used for rugby union as the home venue of Edinburgh Rugby between 2002 and 2004.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R5PPB2 - Top of the Pops (TOTP) is a British music chart television programme, made by the BBC and broadcast weekly between 1 January 1964 and 30 July 2006. The programme was the world's longest-running weekly music show. For most of its history, it was broadcast on Thursday evenings on BBC One. Each show consisted of performances of some of the week's best-selling popular music records, usually excluding any tracks moving down the chart, including a rundown of that week's singles chart. This was originally the Top 20, though this varied throughout the show's history. The Top 30 was used from 1969, and the Top 40 from 1984.
Dusty Springfield's I Only Want to Be with You was the first song featured on TOTP, while the Rolling Stones were the first band to perform, with I Wanna Be Your Man. Snow Patrol were the last act to play live on the weekly show when they performed their single Chasing Cars.
Editions of the programme from 1976 onwards started being repeated on BBC Four in 2011 and are aired on most Friday evenings as of January 2023 the repeat run has reached 1994. Episodes featuring disgraced presenters and artists such as Jimmy Savile, Dave Lee Travis, Jonathan King, Ian Watkins, R Kelly, Rolf Harris, and Gary Glitter are no longer repeated
2005: The beginning of the end
Figures had plummeted to below three million, prompting an announcement by the BBC that the show was going to move, again, to Sunday evenings on BBC Two, thus losing the prime-time slot on BBC One that it had maintained for more than forty years.
This move was widely reported as a final sidelining of the show, and perhaps signalled its likely cancellation. At the time, it was insisted that this was so the show would air immediately after the official announcement of the new top 40 chart on Radio 1, as it was thought that by the following Friday, the chart seemed out of date. The final Top of the Pops to be shown on BBC One (barring Christmas and New Year specials) was broadcast on Monday 1

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JTR49B - Moonpig is an internet-based business whose head offices are situated in London and Guernsey. The company's business model is mainly selling personalised greeting cards, flowers and gifts. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.
According to founder Nick Jenkins, Moonpig was his nickname at school in Newport, Shropshire, hence the name of the brand.
The original launch of Moonpig in 2000 coincided with the collapse of the dot-com bubble, which made progress difficult at first, but Jenkins raised further investment from private investors and venture capital, and the advent of broadband and digital cameras together with news spreading by word-of-mouth meant sales steadily increased, with the first profits being made in 2005. A television advertising campaign began in the United Kingdom in November 2006. 2 years and 4 months later, Moonpig received more internet traffic than other flower and gift companies in the UK
August 2013, a private developer discovered a vulnerability in the Moonpig API that made it possible for outsiders to retrieve the personal information of all three million of its users (names, birthdays, postal addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, the last four digits of credit card numbers, and credit card expiry dates), and informed Moonpig. Moonpig did nothing about it until the developer publicly announced the problem in January 2015, whereupon Moonpig disabled the API and its mobile apps pending an investigation. Moonpig issued a statement saying that all password and payment information is and has always been safe

During the height of the conflict centred around the GPO, William McDowell and the porter made a dash from the premises to Cathedral Street a distance of some fifty yards and in that distance William was shot in the leg and sadly the porter was shot dead. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AGP2WR - Tiger was a weekly British comic magazine published from 1954 to 1985, originally by Amalgamated Press (AP) and later by IPC/Fleetway.
Launched as Tiger The Sport and Adventure Picture Story Weekly, initially the publication predominantly featured sporting strips. Its most popular strip was Roy of the Rovers, a football-based strip recounting the life of Roy Race and the team he played for, Melchester Rovers.
As was common with British comics during this period, Tiger absorbed a number of other comics magazines during its run
six in all. Following successive mergers with other AP publications in the 1950s, the comic was known as Tiger Incorporating the Champion (from 1955) and then (from 1959) Tiger and Comet.
Amalgamated Press was acquired by the Mirror Group in 1959, and renamed Fleetway Publications. Following successive mergers with other Fleetway publications in the 1960s, the comic was known as Tiger and Hurricane (from May 1965), then (from 1969) Tiger and Jag for many years. It was coupled with the football magazine Scorcher in 1974, resulting in Tiger and Scorcher appearing for more than six years. In 1980, there was a further, less successful, merger with another comic called Speed.
The end finally came on 30 March 1985, with Tiger merging into The Eagle from issue #159 of that comic, dated 6 April 1985, which was temporarily titled Eagle and Tiger (with some strips from Tiger coming to the merged publications).
In all, 1,573 issues were published, as well as a number of hardcover annuals

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RBJ9PA - Physical Graffiti is the sixth studio album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin. It was released as a double album on 24 February 1975 by the group's new record label, Swan Song Records.
The album was originally released with a die-cut sleeve design depicting a New York City tenement block. The album designer, Peter Corriston, was looking for a building that was symmetrical with interesting details. The two five-storey buildings photographed for the album cover are located at 96 and 98 St. Mark's Place in New York City. The original photograph underwent a number of tweaks to arrive at the final image. The fifth floor of the building had to be cropped out to fit the square album cover format.
The band wrote and recorded eight new songs for the album in early 1974 at Headley Grange, a country house in Hampshire, which gave them ample time to improvise arrangements and experiment with recording. The total playing time covered three sides of an LP, so they decided to expand it into a double by including previously unreleased tracks from the sessions for the earlier albums Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin IV and Houses of the Holy. The album covered a range of styles including hard rock, progressive rock, rock 'n' roll and folk. The album was then mixed over summer 1974 and planned for an end-of year release. It was delayed because of the sleeve, which was designed by Peter Corriston and featured a theme around a tenement block in Manhattan, New York.
Other than the jam Boogie With Stu, which features former Rolling Stones pianist Ian Stewart, the band provided all instrumentation and vocals themselves, being Robert Plant (vocals, harmonica), Jimmy Page (guitar), John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards), and John Bonham (drums). The album was produced by Jimmy Page, with the help of a number of different engineers and mixers.
Physical Graffiti was commercially and critically successful upon its release and debuted at number one on album charts in both the US and the UK. I

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy PEHFHM - Flags at Half-mast
Half-mast means the flag is flown two-thirds of the way up the flagpole, with at least the height of the flag between the top of the flag and the top of the flagpole. Flags cannot be flown at half-mast on poles that are more than 45° from the vertical, but a mourning cravat can be used instead (see below).
When a flag is to be flown at half-mast, it should first be raised all the way to the top of the mast, allowed to remain there for a second and then be lowered to the half-mast position. When it is being lowered from half-mast, it should again be raised to the top of the mast for a second before being fully lowered.
When a British national flag is at half-mast, other flags on the same stand of poles should also be at half-mast or should not be flown at all. Flags of foreign nations should not be flown, unless their country is also observing mourning.
The Royal Standard never flies at half-mast. It represents the Monarchy, which is continuous, and it would therefore be inappropriate for it to fly at half-mast.
Flags should be flown at half-mast on the following occasions:
From the announcement of the death until the funeral of the Sovereign, except on Proclamation Day when flags are flown at full-mast following the proclamation.
From the announcement of the death until the funeral of a member of the Royal Family styled Royal Highness', subject to special commands from the Sovereign in each case.
On the day of the announcement of the death and on the day of the funeral of other members of the Royal Family, subject to special commands from the Sovereign in each case.
The funerals of foreign Rulers, subject to special commands from the Sovereign in each case.
The funerals of Prime Ministers and ex-Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom, subject to special commands from the Sovereign in each case.
The funerals of First Ministers and ex-First Ministers of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, subject to special commands f

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy MM99Y9 - Chatelherault Country Park is a country park in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Its name is derived from the French town of Châtellerault, the title Duc de Châtellerault having been granted to James Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Arran in 1548 for his part in arranging the marriage of Mary, Queen of Scots, to Francis, Dauphin of France.
The country park is centred on the former hunting lodge, a folly designed to be seen from the now demolished Hamilton Palace at the end of a broad grass slope forming an avenue with lines of lime trees. The lodge was designed by William Adam and completed in 1734. It comprises two buildings, linked by a gateway, in the form of four pavilions above a garden wall. The north facade was visible from the palace and forms the front of the building. To the rear are formal parterre gardens. The buildings provided kennels, stables and accommodation for hunting parties returning from the woodlands to the south. Adam jokingly referred to his creation as 'The Dogg Kennel'

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F7DC86 - BEA operated to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East from airports around the United Kingdom. The airline was also the largest UK domestic operator, serving major British cities, including London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast, as well as remote areas of the British Isles such as the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. From 1946 until 1974, BEA operated a network of internal German routes between West Berlin and West Germany as well.
Formed as the British European Airways division of British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) on 1 January 1946, BEA became a crown corporation in its own right on 1 August 1946.
Inflight smoking is prohibited by almost all airlines
smoking on domestic U.S. airliners, for instance, was banned for almost all routes beginning in 1988, with all planes being smoke-free by the end of the 1990s. According to FAA regulations, smoking lit cigarettes or anything else that produces smoke or flame is prohibited onboard most commercial aircraft. However, the FAA has not issued a regulation for or against electronic cigarettes, leaving that decision up to the individual airlines

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy EDR4WK - Postage stamps and postal history of Australia
The six self-governing Australian colonies that formed the Commonwealth of Australia on 1 January 1901 operated their own postal service and issued their own stamps see articles on the systems on New South Wales (first stamps issued 1850), Victoria (1850), Tasmania (1853), Western Australia (1854), South Australia (1855) and Queensland (1860). Under section 51(v) of the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution 1900, postal, telegraphic, telephonic, and other like services became a Commonwealth responsibility.
The Commonwealth's Postmaster-General's Department became effective on 1 March 1901 (this agency would be disaggregated on 1 July 1975 in part into the Australian Postal Commission trading as Australia Post). All then-current colony stamps which continued on sale became de facto Commonwealth stamps. Some of these stamps continued to be used for some time following the introduction in 1913 of the Commonwealth's uniform postage stamp series. These stamps continued to be valid for postage until 14 February 1966 when the introduction of decimal currency made all stamps bearing the earlier currency invalid for use.
There have been many special issues. The first Christmas stamp appeared on 6 November 1957. In recent years, designs for the Christmas issue have alternated each year between the religious and the secular. From 1993, in October of every year, Australia Post has commemorated Stamp Collecting month with special issues, typically featuring topics that are of interest to children such as pets, native fauna and space. Commencing with the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, during the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, stamps featuring Australians who have won an Olympic gold medal are issued on the next postal business day after the achievement.

The koala (Phascolarctos cinereus or, inaccurately, koala bear[a]) is an arboreal herbivorous marsupial native to Australia. It is the only extant representative of the family Phascolarctidae, and its closest living relatives are the wombats.
The koala is found in coastal areas of the mainland's eastern and southern regions, inhabiting Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. It is easily recognisable by its stout, tailless body
round, fluffy ears
and large, spoon-shaped nose. The koala has a body length of 6085 cm (2433 in) and weighs 415 kg (933 lb).
Pelage colour ranges from silver grey to chocolate brown. Koalas from the northern populations are typically smaller and lighter in colour than their counterparts further south. It is possible that these populations are separate subspecies, but this is disputed.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy EDR5T1 - Postage stamps and postal history of Australia

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy ED8P03 - An Advent calendar is a special calendar used to count or celebrate the days in anticipation of Christmas. Since the date of the first Sunday of Advent varies, falling between November 27 and December 3 inclusive, the Advent calendar usually begins on December 1, although many include the previous few days that are part of the season. The Advent calendar was first used by German Lutherans in the 19th and 20th centuries but is now ubiquitous among adherents of many Christian denominations.
Many Advent calendars take the form of a large rectangular card with windows, of which there are usually 24: one for each day of December leading up to Christmas Eve. Often, these windows have a Bible verse and prayer printed on them, which Christian families incorporate as part of their daily Advent devotions.
Consecutive doors are opened every day leading up to Christmas. The calendar windows open to reveal an image, poem, a portion of a story (such as the story of the Nativity of Jesus) or a small gift, such as a toy or a chocolate item. Advent calendars range in theme, from sports to technology, often carrying Scripture verses

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RM9AWT - Boddingtons Brewery was a regional brewery in Manchester, England, which owned pubs throughout the North West. Boddingtons was best known for Boddingtons Bitter (Boddies), a straw-golden, hoppy bitter which was one of the first beers to be packaged in cans containing a widget, giving it a creamy draught-style head. In the 1990s, the beer was promoted as The Cream of Manchester in a popular advertising campaign credited with raising Manchester's profile. Boddingtons became one of the city's most famous products after Manchester United and Coronation Street.
Whitbread bought Boddingtons Brewery in 1989 and Boddingtons Bitter received an increased marketing budget and nationwide distribution. Boddingtons achieved its peak market share in 1997 and at the time was exported to over forty countries. Boddingtons beer brands are now owned by the global brewer AnheuserBusch InBev which acquired the Whitbread Beer Company in 2000. Strangeways Brewery closed in 2004 and production of pasteurised (keg and can) Boddingtons was moved to Samlesbury in Lancashire. Production of the cask conditioned beer moved to Hydes Brewery in Moss Side, Manchester, until it was discontinued in 2012, ending the beer's association with the city.
The Boddingtons two bees logo was introduced in 1900. The bees are a symbol of Manchester, from a time when it was a hive of industry, but the two bees also represent a pun on the company name of Boddingtons Breweries.
Boddingtons largely eschewed above the line advertising until 1987, when it was first advertised on Granada television in the North West of England. The tagline from 1987 until 1991 was If you don't get Boddies, you'll just get bitter. Under Whitbread's custodianship the comedian Frankie Howerd fronted the campaign in a series of six television advertisements which mainly aired in the North West in 19901991. Lowe Howard-Spink was the advertising agency responsible for the Howerd advertisements.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K43PYW - Love Hearts are a type of confectionery manufactured by Swizzels Matlow in the United Kingdom. They are hard, tablet-shaped sweets in various fruit flavors featuring a short, love-related message on one side of the sweet. They are an updated version of Victorian-era Conversation Lozenges
On chewing, the sweet quickly disintegrates into a powdery, starchy consistency
Love Hearts currently come in six flavors, each associated with a color (listed from weakest to strongest flavor):..
White (a plain, sherbet-like, slightly tart vanilla flavor)
Yellow (a sherbet-like flavor with a distinct sharp lemon aftertaste)
Green (a slight lime flavor with a sherbet-like aftertaste)
Orange (a sweet flavor with a slight orange aftertaste)
Purple (an unusual, slightly perfumed berry-like flavor with a strong aftertaste)
Red (cherry flavor)
There are many different messages which can be found on the front of the sweet, most of which are love-related. The message is written in capitals in a sans serif font of varying size. The font is scaled and sometimes stretched out of proportion to fit the available space.
Most messages are written in simple horizontal, centrally aligned lines. There are some exceptions to this rule, including the phrase I Surrender, where the word surrender has been written in an arc around the lower inside edge of the heart outline.
The Just Say No message has an unclear layout, appearing to read Just say No.
Wayne and Coleen Rooney had personalized sweets made for their wedding in the summer of 2008 which read Wayne and Coleen. Special edition Love heart packs were launched for Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding in 2011

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy D8HDBH - The John Rylands Library is a late-Victorian neo-Gothic building on Deansgate in Manchester, England. The library, which opened to the public in 1900, was founded by Enriqueta Augustina Rylands in memory of her husband, John Rylands.[4] The John Rylands Library and the library of the University of Manchester merged in July 1972 into the John Rylands University Library of Manchester. Special collections built up by both libraries were progressively concentrated in the Deansgate building.
The special collections, believed to be among the largest in the United Kingdom,[5] include medieval illuminated manuscripts and examples of early European printing, including a Gutenberg Bible, the second largest collection of printing by William Caxton,[6] and the most extensive collection of the editions of the Aldine Press of Venice.[7] The Rylands Library Papyrus P52 is believed to be the earliest extant New Testament text. The library holds personal papers and letters of notable figures, among them Elizabeth Gaskell and John Dalton.
The architectural style is primarily neo-Gothic with elements of Arts and Crafts Movement in the ornate and imposing gatehouse facing Deansgate which dominates the surrounding streetscape. The library, granted Grade I listed status in 1994, is maintained by the University of Manchester and open for library readers and visitors.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy CEMX6P - Grappenhall is a suburban village in Warrington, Cheshire, England. It is situated along the Bridgewater Canal, and forms one of the principal settlements of Grappenhall and Thelwall civil parish. According to the 2001 UK census, the population of the entire civil parish was 9,377.[1]
Grappenhall is mentioned in the Domesday Book with the name Gropenhale and a with a valuation of five shillings.
St Wilfrid's Church has a carving of a cat on the west face of the tower, just beyond this location. This is believed to be Lewis Carroll's inspiration for the grinning Cheshire Cat in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The church itself was first constructed in 1120, though was rebuilt 400 years later. The church was also, at a time, in the possession of the Boidelle (Boydell) family.
Along with the church, the centre of the village contains two pubs - The Parr Arms and The Ram's Head, Grappenhall Hall residential School and St. Wilfrids Primary School. Bradshaw Community Primary School is located north of the village centre.
Parts of the Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes were filmed in the centre of Grappenhall. It is also the birthplace of actor Tim Curry. The village name appears in the title of the song Grappenhall Rag by Darwen singer/songwriter Bryn Haworth.
