Andrew Stewart MBE (30 December 1933 ? 11 October 1993) was a Scottish singer and entertainer. He presented the BBC TV variety show The White Heather Club throughout the 1960s, and his song Donald Where's Your Troosers? was a hit in both 1960 and 1989. Internationally, the song most closely associated with Stewart is A Scottish Soldier.
Stewart was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1933, the son of a teacher. When he was five years old, the family moved to Perth and then, six years later, to Arbroath.

The Harrogate Bus Company operates both local and regional bus services in North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, England. It is a subsidiary of Transdev Blazefield
In July 2016, the company was again rebranded, now operating as The Harrogate Bus Company. To coincide with this, a huge fleet upgrade was undertaken, which included the introduction of the current two-tone red livery, as well as a refurbishment of the company's route 1 branded single-deck Wright Eclipse Urban bodied Volvo B7RLE vehicles to set the new standard specification of free WiFi, USB charging capabilities and audio/visual next stop information. Other Wright Eclipse Urban vehicles were transferred from some of Transdev's other subsidiaries to replace the older Wright Renown bodied Volvo B10BLE single-decker vehicles which were branded for the route. 2016 also saw the launch of 14 new high-specification Wright Gemini 3 bodied Volvo B5TL double-deck vehicles on the route 36, replacing the older Wright Eclipse Gemini vehicles. The 36 also received its own new brand ? Riding Redefined ? as well as a new two-tone red and black livery. In July 2017, a new brand was introduced for the route 770/771, which saw the services become renumbered alongside the new brand name known as Superior 70/71. A fleet of Wright Eclipse Urban 2 bodied Volvo B7RLE single-deck vehicles were transferred from Transdev's operations in Burnley and refurbished to equip them with WiFi, USB charging capabilities and audio/visual next stop information. The new fleet entered service on the route on 23 July, eventually replacing the entire fleet of Volvo B10BLE Wright Renown vehicles, which then left the fleet in 2018. In April 2018, due to the loss of council funding for the 70 to Connexionsbuses, the 71 was again renumbered and rebranded, now known as Simple 7.

Less commonly, aircraft, railcars or vessels are also similarly fitted. These vehicles must be highly protected and may feature bars or wire mesh over the windows, bulletproof glass, segregated prisoner compartments, and additional seating for escorting officers.
Function
Due to their relatively low security and potential isolation from assistance while en route, police or additional corrections vehicles sometimes escort high-risk transports. With this in mind, vehicles may also be equipped with radio communications, global positioning units, additional restraints and weapons, and other emergency equipment. To add additional security, prisoners are typically restrained while in transport and may be physically secured to the vehicle, handcuffed while in the secured area, or a combination of both.
Prisoner transport vehicles may be operated by police services (see paddywagon), correctional services, field officers, court services, federal agencies such as the United States Marshals Service, or be contracted to private security companies. Prison buses were widely used in the late 1900s to transport prisoners, especially to state prisons across the US. They were usually quite secure and offered no way of escape for transporting prisoners.

The company previously traded as Warrington Borough Transport up until 2006 and as Network Warrington between 2006 and 2018. With the launch of the 'Cheshire Cats' brand in 2018 the company rebranded as Warrington's Own Buses.
History
Warrington Corporation Tramways started operating a network of five radial tramways from the town centre in 1902, with the first motor bus service starting in 1913. Buses replaced trams on routes starting in 1931, with the infrastructure starting to require major renewal which could not be justified economically. The last tram operated in 1935
Warrington was designated as a new town in 1968, which led to new housing estates planned in the Birchwood and Westbrook areas of town. As such, Warrington Borough Council Transport Department started operating new services to these new developments as they started to grow in the 1970s and beyond. The department also began operating new services jointly with Crosville upon the split of the old Stockport based North Western Road Car Company in 1972.
To comply with the Transport Act 1985, Warrington Borough Transport was incorporated in 1986. The company's mission was that if money could be made by operating services deemed uneconomic by other operators, then it should assume operation. This policy led to an increase in services operated as other bus companies who ran into the area decided to concentrate on their own core areas
In April 2018, the company was rebranded as Warrington's Own Buses
Warrington's Own Buses operate 96 routes across the Warrington borough, Cheshire and Greater Manchester. With 50 of them being school/college contract routes

They are regarded as a seminal influence on the Manchester music scene, the independent record label movement, punk rock, power pop, and pop punk. They achieved commercial success with singles that fused pop craftsmanship with rapid-fire punk energy. Devoto left the band in 1977, after which Pete Shelley became the principal singer-songwriter. After releasing three albums, as well as Singles Going Steady, the band broke up in 1981 following a dispute with their then-record label, but reunited in 1989, since releasing six more albums. Shelley died in 2018,[9] but the band has remained active. Steve Diggle, the guitarist and co-founder of the band, is now singer. They added a new guitarist Mani Perazzoli. They are still touring.
Their first UA Buzzcocks single, Orgasm Addict, was a playful examination of compulsive sexuality that was, and remains, uncommonly bold. The BBC refused to play the song, and the single did not sell well. Later, more ambiguous songs staked out a territory defined by Shelley's bisexuality and punk's aversion to serious examination of human sexuality. Restoration took place after the war, being completed by 1951. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, having been designated on 28 June 1952.
The Bluecoat Display Centre, a contemporary craft gallery, opened in the rear courtyard in 1959. Being known as the Bluecoat Arts Centre from the 1980s, it is now simply called the Bluecoat. From 2005, the building was further restored and a new wing added. It was reopened in March 2008 to coincide with Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture.

It was Decca's decision to mould Fury into a teen idol after his last self-penned song, My Christmas Prayer, had failed to chart. The years 1961 through 1963 were Fury's best years chartwise. In 1962, he appeared in his first film, Play It Cool, modelled on the Elvis films. It featured Helen Shapiro, Danny Williams, Shane Fenton and Bobby Vee, who appeared with the Vernons Girls. The hit single from the film was Once Upon a Dream. There were other notable performances by several British actors and performers such as Richard Wattis, Lionel Blair and Dennis Price.

In 1962, he appeared in his first film, Play It Cool, modelled on the Elvis films. It featured Helen Shapiro, Danny Williams, Shane Fenton and Bobby Vee, who appeared with the Vernons Girls. The hit single from the film was Once Upon a Dream. There were other notable performances by several British actors and performers such as Richard Wattis, Lionel Blair and Dennis Price.

OPENING an asylum centre at a Warrington hotel without consulting residents was 'simply not acceptable'.
Warrington South MP Andy Carter raised his concerns in the House of Commons on Monday afternoon during an urgent debate on the migrant crisis.
He was among a large number of MPs grilling immigration minister Robert Jenrick on the fall out of the problems at the Manston Migrant Centre in Kent.
Thousands of migrants have been placed in temporary accomodation since then to relieve the pressure Parliament was told.
Mr Carter said on Thursday he was notified by the Home Office that the Fir Grove hotel in his Warrington South constituency would 'become an asylum centre the following day' and said no talks were held with the council.
He added: It's in the middle of a residential area, less than 200 yards from a primary school.
I'm sure (Mr Jenrick) would agree with me that it's simply not acceptable for the Home Office to steamroll ahead on a decision like this without the necessary consultation with local residents.
After Conservative former minister Paul Maynard raised concerns about the use of a hotel in his Blackpool North and Cleveleys constituency, Mr Jenrick said: I appreciate that Blackpool is one of those areas that has borne a disproportionate burden from this issue for a long time.
So if there is a way we can ensure that individuals are dispersed from Blackpool more swiftly than other parts of the country, then I'd be happy to look into that.
Mr Jenrick added 'deterrence' has to be part of the UK's approach, suggesting good-quality hotels could act as a 'pull factor' for people thinking of crossing the Channel.
The population at the Manston Migrant Processing Centre is back below 1,600 with 'over 2,300 people being placed in onward accommodation', Mr Jenrick said.

The barber shop, Bioletti's, like nearly all of the places referred to in the song, was not on Penny Lane itself but on Smithdown Place, overlooking the ?roundabout' with the bus shelter.
A change of ownership meant that Bioletti's became Tony Slavin's, but it is still a barber shop (and now also a ladies salon). Where else could you have your hair done at a reasonable price and share in Beatles history at the same time?
The Ladies salon (upstairs) used to be a flat in the Beatles' days, but the barber shop downstairs still looks much the same as when the Beatles used to sit and wait for a trim.
Beatles fans are always welcome ? either to have their hair done in the same place as the Beatles

Most of the vehicles in the fleet were purchased new by Blackpool Transport, however thirteen vehicles in the current fleet were purchased from other operators. In 2016, a five-year plan to renew the majority of the fleet was announced, with the aim of no vehicle in the fleet being older than five years old in 2020
In 2015, Blackpool Transport unveiled a new premium brand, Palladium, on its bus network. All vehicles with Palladium specification are fitted with WiFi, e-leather seating, wood effect flooring and a grey and yellow livery. The first route to be upgraded was the 5, which received a batch of brand new Mercedes-Benz Citaros.

It was developed as a joint project between two UK nationalised industries ? the National Bus Company and British Leyland. Buses were constructed at a specially built factory at the Lillyhall Industrial Estate, Workington. Styling was carried out by the Italian vehicle stylist Giovanni Michelotti, previously commissioned by both Triumph (Herald, TR4, GT6, 2000/2500, 1300, Dolomite and Stag) and Scammell lorries (Routeman GRP cab).
It was intended to replace all the rear-engined single-decker buses offered by British Leyland, including the AEC Swift, Bristol RE, single-deck Daimler Fleetline, Daimler Roadliner and Leyland Panther.
The Leyland National was built with integral, modular construction and a rear engine. All components were designed for ease of construction and replacement. Until 1978, it was always built with a roof mounted pod at the rear, housing the heating equipment, which consequently blew warm air out at roof level. At first the pod was almost the length of a bay and appeared designed to give a Trans-Atlantic feel. In 1976 a new shorter version of the roof pod was introduced along with the battery being relocated to the front under the cab. The Leyland National was available in three lengths, the majority being 10.3m and 11.3m. It was easy to spot the longer ones as its main side windows were all the same length, on the shorter models the windows were shorter except for one in the middle (where the exit doors were on dual door variants) which was the same length as on the longer models. The third length was 10.9m, specially produced for Australian operators due to stringent axle weight limits. This used the front section of the 11.3 metre bus and the rear action of the 10.3 metre bus. One 10.9 metre bus (the prototype) was sold to a Scottish operator (Rennies of Dunfirmline)

Small enough to fit into the user's hand, this record-playing device promised to incorporate the quality of a regular gramophone into a battery-operated portable record player that could be taken to the beach or on picnics.
Designed by Sergio Favaro, an Italian national who settled in Shrewsbury, England in 1958 and produced by Hartley Electromotives (later, Camp Baird) the portable record player played all standard-size records at two main speeds. Equipped with a low-consumption 6-volt battery, an amplifier, and weighing only two pounds, the Wondergram worked by placing the record on a small automatic spinning wheel which turned the disc. Though produced in England, the Wondergram found its largest market in North America where it was sold as the Emerson Wondergram.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K3XMXM - Deanston distillery is a Single Malt Scotch whisky distillery located on the banks of the River Teith, eight miles from the historic town of Stirling, at the gateway to the dramatic Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. It is the largest distillery owned by Scotch whisky producer Distell Group Limited, who also own Bunnahabhain Distillery on the Isle of Islay and Tobermory distillery on the Isle of Mull.
Deanston Distillery started life in 1785 as a cotton mill designed by Sir Richard Arkwright, and remained as such for 180 years until it was transformed into a distillery in 1966. The constant supply of pure water from the River Teith contributed to the decision to turn the mill into a distillery and Deanston is now the only distillery in Scotland to be self-sufficient in electricity, with power generated by an on-site hydro-energy facility. Deanston sits in the Highland single malt region of Scotland and produces whisky which is handmade by ten local craftsmen, un-chill filtered, natural colour and bottled at a strength of 46.3% ABV.
In 1841 James Smith retired from the mill. Operations continued but by 1848, production at Deanston was in decline. The turn of the twentieth century saw a further decrease in demand for cotton and the workforce was scaled down from 1500 to 500 people. Things steadily got worse until the mill was closed on 2 April 1965.
It was the collective efforts of James Finlay & Co, Brodie Hepburn & Co, and A.B (Sandy) Grant, known together as Deanston Distillers Ltd, who converted Deanston Mill into a malt whisky distillery in 1965. The soft, fast flow of the River Teith and a whisky boom in Scotland at the time made the site ideal for whisky production. The distillery was opened on 17 October 1966 after an extensive refurbishment costing ?300,000, employing 20 local people, but taking just nine months.Three floors were removed to make room for four copper stills and a mash tun. It was developed as a joint project between two UK nationalised industries ? the National Bus Company and British Leyland. Buses were constructed at a specially built factory at the Lillyhall Industrial Estate, Workington. Styling was carried out by the Italian vehicle stylist Giovanni Michelotti, previously commissioned by both Triumph (Herald, TR4, GT6, 2000/2500, 1300, Dolomite and Stag) and Scammell lorries (Routeman GRP cab).
It was intended to replace all the rear-engined single-decker buses offered by British Leyland, including the AEC Swift, Bristol RE, single-deck Daimler Fleetline, Daimler Roadliner and Leyland Panther.
The Leyland National was built with integral, modular construction and a rear engine. All components were designed for ease of construction and replacement. Until 1978, it was always built with a roof mounted pod at the rear, housing the heating equipment, which consequently blew warm air out at roof level. At first the pod was almost the length of a bay and appeared designed to give a Trans-Atlantic feel. In 1976 a new shorter version of the roof pod was introduced along with the battery being relocated to the front under the cab. The Leyland National was available in three lengths, the majority being 10.3m and 11.3m. It was easy to spot the longer ones as its main side windows were all the same length, on the shorter models the windows were shorter except for one in the middle (where the exit doors were on dual door variants) which was the same length as on the longer models. The third length was 10.9m, specially produced for Australian operators due to stringent axle weight limits. This used the front section of the 11.3 metre bus and the rear action of the 10.3 metre bus. One 10.9 metre bus (the prototype) was sold to a Scottish operator (Rennies of Dunfirmline)

Fifty-Three is the atomic number of the useful halide iodine, also the racing number of Herbie, a Volkswagen Beetle with a mind of his own, first appearing in the 1969 Walt Disney Film film, The Love Bug. For direct calls to Cuba, the code is +53.
The 53 bus is one that I often travelled on, getting me from Belle Vue, to my first job in Higher Openshaw, Manchester. Bernard Manning described the 53 as the longest bus route in the world, connecting 'Africa with Jerusalem'. That would be due to the route taking in Moss Side and finishing in Cheetham Hill and Prestwich, old home of Manchester's orthodox Jewish community.
Manning was born in the Ancoats district of Manchester, Lancashire. Often reviled as a racist comedian, he had Russian Jewish ancestry on his father's side, as well as roots in Ireland, and was brought up a 'strict Catholic'. He named his house in Alkrington, Greater Manchester, 'Shalom', the Hebrew word for 'peace.'
Manning owned the Embassy club in Harpurhey, Manchester and performed mostly there from the 1980's. I remember one Friday night there with a group from work, after a wormy salad at the Barnaby Rudge. A good work mate from Moss Side was with us and got hassle from Manning for a lot of the night. If we did it again, we would have gone to Pips instead.

The '45 refers to the 1745 Jacobite Rising in Great Britain, or the year that World War II ended, which was 1945. Guns or ammunition of .45 caliber. In the United States, '45' is often a reference to one of two specific .45 caliber cartridges\u2014 the .45 Colt or the .45 ACP.
Its a type of gramophone record classified by its revolution speed of 45 revolutions per minute (rpm). One of the key 45 single generating labels of my youth was Stiff.
Stiff Records is a British independent record label formed in London, England, by Dave Robinson and Andrew Jakeman (aka Jake Riviera). Originally active from 1976 to 1985, the label was reactivated in 2007.
Established at the outset of the punk rock boom, Stiff Records signed various punk and New Wave acts such as Nick Lowe, The Damned, Lene Lovich, Wreckless Eric, Plummet Airlines, Elvis Costello, and Ian Dury. The label's marketing and advertising was often provocative and witty billing itself as 'The World's Most Flexible Record Label'. Other slogans were 'We came. We saw. We left', 'If It Ain't Stiff, It Ain't Worth a F**k', and 'When You Kill Time, You Murder Success' (printed on promotional wall clocks).
On the label of Stiff's sampler compilation Heroes &
Cowards was printed: 'In '78 everyone born in '45 will be 33-1/3'. A very early Stiff sampler album, A Bunch of Stiff Records, introduced the slogan, 'If they're dead, we'll sign them' and 'Undertakers to the Industry'.

The distillery, which was formerly known as Ledaig, was founded in 1798 and has changed hands several times, having undergone a number of periods of closure. The Tobermory Single Malt is distilled from unpeated malted barley and matured in oak casks for at least ten years. The malts are used in a number of blends including Scottish Leader and Black Bottle. The water for the distillery comes from a private loch near to the Mishnish lochs. The branding had been confused under previous owners, with the Tobermory brand being used for both a single malt and a blended whisky.
Production was upgraded in 1990, with the distillery becoming capable of producing a million litres of spirit a year. It uses a traditional copper?domed cast iron mash tun, four washbacks made of Oregon pine, and four spirit stills. The whisky is matured in both former bourbon whiskey and sherry casks. Maturation takes place at the distillery at Deanston.

The Merchant City is a district of the city of Glasgow. The area was first formed during the 18th century to house the wealthy merchant 'tobacco lords' who prospered shipping, amongst other things, tobacco, sugar and tea to the Clyde and fabricated goods to the Americas at this time many classical villas were built in the area. The name 'Merchant City' was coined during 1980's 'Glasgows Smiles Better' regeneration. Historically the area was called 'the tron' or 'cross' or simply by most Glaswegians 'the toun' or 'the town'. An annual Merchant City Festival takes place around the last week of September attracting tens of thousands to the area with a multi-arts programme.

Once home of the legendary Walsall Illuminations festival of lights enjoyed annually by millions since its inauguration in 1952, Walsall Arboretum itself has its origins in another much more ancient activity in the town ? limestone mining.
The area now occupied by the Arboretum was originally part of Rushall until 1876. Limestone had been quarried in the vicinity since at least the late 18th century, with the Persehouse family demolishing Reynolds Hall so that the very profitable quarrying could continue. However, operations had ceased by the 1840's, leaving two great pits to fill up with water, both from the nearby stream and from springs and general drainage. The larger of the two pits, now lakes, was named Hatherton Lake by 1845, and the fine old row of houses now known as Victoria Terrace just to the north was in fact built as Hatherton Lake Villas by the early 1850's.

They achieved commercial success with singles that fused pop craftsmanship with rapid-fire punk energy.
