Another Place consists of one hundred individual iron figures spread across several kilometres of shoreline, aligned to the horizon and fixed at varying tidal levels. Over time, the sculptures interact directly with the natural environment, becoming submerged at high tide and re-emerging as the water recedes, reinforcing themes of time, vulnerability, and the relationship between the human body and the landscape.

Legend has it that sightings of the sinister monk are said to warn of a death or some form of bad luck, and a strong smell of vanilla, one of the medieval cargoes carried by ships, has coincided with appearances.
The ghost of the cook is accompanied by an unexplained smell of roast beef that has lingered in the pub, whilst the ghost of a landlord is said to be that of a man who drowned in the estuary.
Looking back in the Weekly News archives, speaking in June 1980, former landlord Jacqui Plumb said she had often had objects mysteriously disappear in the pub and reported a terrified visitor claiming the bed in the pub's attic shaking violently.
But Jacqui herself saw the spectre of the monk right after a member of her family was involved in a serious accident.
I went into the spare bedroom. This is the tower room and it was about 4pm. When I opened the door I saw him just across the room, a monk with his hands together kneeling and praying, she said.
I was so amazed that I closed my eyes and shook my head to make sure I was actually seeing something. I opened my eyes and he was still there.
Later in the April of 1991, barman Andrew Young, 20, was working in the pub when he claimed he encountered a ghostly apparition at the back of the pub.
Andrew, of the Castle View Estate, claimed a ghost standing at around six and a half feet in height made a lunge for him, causing him to drop a crate of beer and rip his shirt. He claimed the ghost was accompanied by a small boy.
He kept beckoning me over and over again but every time he came forward I moved back, he said.
Then he came at me with a look of pure evil and I just panicked. I have never been so scared in my life.
The landlord at the time, Trevor Gresty, even reported the incident to the Bass Brewery.

On 4 May 2021 Russell Lovitt of HG Lovitt's, Filey, North Yorkshire, appeared at Scarborough Magistrates Court charged with failure to submit sales notes.
HG Lovitt's has been a registered buyer of first sale fish since October 2016. On 8 May 2019 MMO marine officers visited HG Lovitts and requested all of the submitted sales notes that they had for first sale purchases of fish. During this visit two receipt books were removed for further assessment, which showed over 370 purchases of fish had non-submitted sales notes.
Mr Lovitt pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay a fine of ?4,000, ?1,230 in costs and a ?190 victim surcharge.

Although it was a fishing village, it has a large beach and became a popular tourist resort. According to the 2011 UK census, Filey parish had a population of 6,981, in comparison to the 2001 UK census population figure of 6,819, and a population of 6,870 in 1991.
Filey was historically mainly within the East Riding of Yorkshire, although until 1888 a small part of the town, including its parish church, was in the North Riding of Yorkshire. In 1974 the town was transferred to the new county of North Yorkshire.
Filey is at the eastern end of the Cleveland Way, a long-distance footpath
it starts at Helmsley and skirts the North York Moors. It was the second National Trail to be opened (1969). The town is at the northern end of the Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail which starts at Hessle and crosses the Yorkshire Wolds. Filey is the finishing point for Great Yorkshire Bike Ride. The 70-mile (110 km) ride begins at Wetherby Racecourse.
Filey has a railway station on the Yorkshire Coast Line. A second station at Filey Holiday Camp railway station to the south of the town served the former Butlins holiday camp. The camp has since been re-developed into a 600-home holiday housing development, The Bay Filey. It is one of the largest coastal developments of this kind in the UK and the first homes were completed in 2007.
In July 2007 Filey was hit by flash floods which caused major problems

The original M&LR single-storey offices facing Hunt's Bank Approach were built in the Italianate style in sandstone ashlar with slate roofs in 1844. They were later enlarged and given a second storey. William Dawes built the station's larger extension for the L&YR in 1909. It is at right-angles to the north end of the old station giving the enlarged station an L-shaped plan. Facing Victoria Station Approach, its fa??ade is in the Edwardian neo-Baroque style, four storeys high and 31 bays to the rounded corner at the south-east end. The ground floor windows have rounded heads and those on the floors above are square. The ornate glass and iron canopy along the fa??ade displays the names of destinations that the station served in Art Nouveau lettering. The canopy was damaged by the Provisional IRA's 1996 bomb placed in a street adjacent to the Arndale Centre and was restored four years later.
Heritage features in the concourse were restored during the 2013-15 renovation, they include the caf?? with its glass dome and mosaic lettering which was originally the first-class dining room, the adjacent bookstall, and the original 1909 wood-panelled booking hall. In the entrance is a large, white glazed tiled map showing the former network of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway.
Underneath the map is a bronze World War I war memorial with effigies of Saint George and Saint Michael at each end which was installed in 1923. At the south end of the concourse is the 'soldier's gate' which opened to the former fish docks from where thousands of soldiers departed for World War I and where a bronze plaque was erected to commemorate them. The gateway was restored in 2015 and a steel screen inserted featuring a map of World War I Commonwealth grave cemeteries in Northern France and Belgium.
The station received Grade II listed building status in 1988

The first part opened on 29 September 1885, a conduit line from Cocker Street to Dean Street on Blackpool Promenade. It was one of the first practical electric tramways in the world, just six years after Werner von Siemens first demonstrated electric traction. The inauguration was presided over by Holroyd Smith, the inventor of the system and Alderman Harwood, the Mayor of Manchester.
It was operated by the Blackpool Electric Tramway Company until 1892, when its lease expired and Blackpool Corporation took over. A line was added in 1895 from Manchester Square along Lytham Road to South Shore, extended to South Pier with a line on Station Road connecting Lytham Road to the promenade in 1897

Blackpool rock is usually at least 2.5 cm (0.98 in) in diameter, and can be as thick as 17 cm (6.7 in) across and up to 2 m (6.6 ft) long when made for special retail displays. These cylinders usually have a pattern embedded throughout the length, which is often the name of the resort where the rock is sold, so that the name can be read on both ends of the stick (reversed at one end) and remains legible even after pieces are bitten off. Rock is also manufactured as a promotional item, for example with a company name running through it.
It is sometimes found in the form of individual sweets, with writing or a pattern in the centre

The Memorial
Southport's War Memorial in London Square is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.
The material used for construction was Portland stone, and the structure consists of two colonnades and a central obelisk. Each colonnade has one small chapel at each end, and memorial gardens surround the colonnades, which contain Remembrance fountains and pools. Names of the fallen appear for World War One on the chapel walls, and panels have been added to the inside of the colonnades for World War Two and subsequent conflicts.
Public subscription for the Southport war memorial, to extend the hospital, and to provide grants for bereaved children was established after a meeting on 14th February 1919. A War Memorial Committee was formed to raise the money. A total of ?31,854 was raised, and a competition was launched for the memorial's design. Sir Reginald Blomfield R.A. was appointed as adviser and assessor for the competition and the design entries were exhibited at Southport Art Gallery. Sir Reginald announced the first prize to Messrs Grayson and Barnish, based at the Royal Liver Building, Liverpool. After a second set of tenders Messrs W. Moss and Sons of Loughborough, Liverpool and London were commissioned as main contractors. Mr Herbert Tyson Smith, a sculptor from Liverpool was commissioned for the carving of inscriptions and 1133 names on the Roll of Honour.
Unveiling Ceremony
On November 18th 1923, an official procession began at the Town Hall, passed the Art Gallery and went via Eastbank Street, Chapel Street and London Street, arriving at London Square. The National Anthem was followed by the Mayor's speech (Mr. Alderman Aveling J.P) before the General Salute was sounded.

The hall is in two storeys with a basement, and it has a symmetrical front of seven bays. Between some of the bays are paired pilasters, giving a window arrangement of 1:2:1:2:1. The basement and ground floor are rusticated. Between the floors are a frieze and a cornice, the upper cornice being dentillated. In the centre of the building is a double parallel staircase with a balustraded parapet. This leads to a porch flanked by a pair of pilasters and a fluted Doric column on each side. On top of the porch is a triglyph frieze, a cornice, and a balustraded parapet. Above the porch is a balcony with a window flanked by Ionic semi-columns and paired pilasters. The windows in the basement are short and rectangular, those in the ground floor are tall and round-headed with keystones and voussoirs, and in the upper floor they are tall and flat-headed with architraves. All the windows contain sashes. Above the central bay is a pediment with a tympanum containing carved personifications of Justice, Mercy and Truth, and this is flanked by balustraded parapets. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JHW8CC - The Atkinson is a building on the east side of Lord Street extending round the corner into Eastbank Street, Southport, Sefton, Merseyside, England. The building is a combination of two former buildings, the original Atkinson Art Gallery and Library that opened in 1878, and the adjacent Manchester and Liverpool District Bank that was built in 1879. These were combined in 1923?24 and the interiors have been integrated. The original building is in Neoclassical style, and the former bank is in Renaissance style.
The art gallery and library has been integrated with the Southport Arts Centre and is now known as The Atkinson.
The two former buildings are each recorded in the National Heritage List for England as designated Grade II listed buildings.
History
The Atkinson was built following a donation of ?6,000 in 1875 by William Atkinson, a cotton manufacturer from Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, and a frequent visitor to Southport. The building was designed by Waddington and Son of Burnley, Lancashire and opened in 1878. The total cost, donated by Atkinson, was ?15,000. In 1923?24 the building was extended by incorporating an adjacent bank on the corner of Eastbank Street, that had been built for the Manchester and Liverpool District Bank in 1879. The interior of the combined building was remodeled in the late 20th century, and the interiors were internally integrated. As of 2014 the organisation of the library and art gallery is integrated with the Southport Arts Centre and it is known as The Atkinson.
Original building
The original building is constructed in sandstone with a slate roof in Neoclassical style. It is in three storeys and has a symmetrical three-bay front. The central bay projects forward and contains a square-headed doorway above which is a roundel and a band of three panels. It is flanked by pairs of engaged Corinthian columns, above which is an entablature with a frieze inscribed with ATKINSON FREE LIBRARY and a pediment.

However, his proposal for Barry Island was completely different and captured the fun, colourful and tongue-in-cheek character of the place popularised by Gavin & Stacey.

The park opens annually at weekends from Easter onwards and daily during the school summer holidays, until the first weekend in September.
The pleasure park is located opposite the sandy beachfront at Barry and contains a variety of amusements including fairground rides, attractions & food outlets. The surrounding area, known locally as Barry Island, contains a further variety of shops, bars and restaurants.
There are also several amusement arcades located around the park.
Barry Island Pleasure Park is now owned by showman Henry Danter. As well as investing in brand new rides & attractions he has also announced plans to expand with a nearby holiday camp to compliment his pleasure park

The walled town and castle stand on the west bank of the River Conwy, facing Deganwy on the east bank. The town formerly lay in Gwynedd and prior to that in Caernarfonshire. In Scotland (chiefly in the north), the word creel is used to refer to a device used to catch lobsters and other crustaceans. A lobster trap can hold several lobsters. It has a population of 21,281 according to the United Kingdom Census 2011. It lies among a group of small hills, including Church Hill, Wain's Hill (topped by the remains of an Iron Age hill fort), Dial Hill, Strawberry Hill, Castle Hill, Hangstone Hill and Court Hill which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest along the Severn estuary. Clevedon was mentioned in the Domesday Book but grew in the Victorian era as a seaside resort.
Clevedon Pier, opened in 1869, is one of the earliest surviving examples of a Victorian pier. On 17 October 1970, two outward spans collapsed when the seventh set of legs from the shore failed during a routine insurance load test. A trust was eventually formed and the pier and its buildings were restored and reopened on 27 May 1989, when the Waverley paddle steamer berthed and took on passengers. Clevedon Pier is a seaside pier in the town of Clevedon, Somerset, England on the east shore of the Severn Estuary. It has been described by Sir John Betjeman, as the most beautiful pier in England and was designated a Grade I listed building in 2001.[1]
The pier was built during the 1860s to attract tourists and provide a ferry port for rail passengers to South Wales. The pier is 312 m (1,024 ft) long and consists of eight spans supported by steel rails covered by wooden decking, with a pavilion on the pier head.
The pier opened in 1869 and served as an embarkation point for paddle steamer excursions for almost exactly 100 years. Two of the spans collapsed during stress testing in 1970 and demolition was proposed, but local fund raising and heritage grants allowed the pier to be dismantled for restoration and reassembled. It reopened in 1989, and ten years later was awarded the Pier of the Year from the National Piers Society, and a Civic Trust Award.

One of the event's main objectives is to promote local talent and the arts. In 2011 Brighton Fringe launched the Professional Development Programme, aimed at offering workshops to aspiring performers wanting to progress in the business. In 2012, Brighton Fringe opened its own on-street box office, which provided a physical base for the arts event, selling tickets as well as being a hub for promoters and performers. They also launched Brighton in the Square, a showcase of Brighton Fringe performers at the Leicester Square Theatre in London.
As part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, Brighton Fringe introduced the Dip Your Toe project in 2012, which featured performances in six custom-built Victorian bathing machines, which were located throughout Brighton and Hove during the month of May. In 2014, the organisation launched an Arts Council England supported scheme called Window which showcases productions suitable for touring.

A fabulous seaside hotel location, but in February you can guess that the weather at down to -2C was pretty cold and very grey. Many goosebumps on the bridesmaids, but a cracking day had by all and a great start to the marriage of Jen Foxley and Steven Alan Bone.
Richard Connolly my partner in crime and I were kept very busy and had a great day with all the friends and family who attended. The working class were poor and favoured foodstuffs that were cheap, in plentiful supply and easy to prepare.
The savoury pie had long been a traditional food, and its small handsized form also made it a transportable meal, protected from dirt by its cold pastry crust, and filled with cheap minced meat, usually mutton. Adding cheap mashed potatoes, together with a sauce made with fish stock and parsley, made it a plate-based sit-down meal.
Jellied eels are often associated with pie and mash, as European eels cooked in gelatine also became a common worker's meal since eels were one of the few forms of fish that could survive in the heavily polluted River Thames and London's other rivers at that time. Supply was plentiful through the late 1800s, particularly from the Dutch fishing boats landing catches at Billingsgate Fish Market.
Since 2010, as revealed in a joint study by the Zoological Society of London and the Environment Agency, the number of eels captured in research traps in the River Thames fell from 1,500 in 2005 to 50 in 2010, meaning most eels used in pie and mash shops are now from the Netherlands and Northern Ireland.

This classic GnR track is from The Spaghetti Incident. The album was the fifth and is unique for the band, consisting entirely of cover versions, mostly of punk and glam rock songs of the late 1970s and early 1980s. This was the last Guns N' Roses album to feature lead guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum.
The title is an inside joke referring to a food fight between Axl Rose and Steven Adler involving spaghetti. Much was made of this food fight during Adler's resolution lawsuit with the band in 1993, in which Adler's attorney referred to it as 'the Spaghetti Incident'. The meaning was explained by drummer Matt Sorum in a 1994 interview with Much Music and confirmed by Slash in his autobiography, 'Slash'.
The album has seen mixed reviews since its release. Rolling Stone magazine gave the album a 3.5 out of 5 stars. Allmusic said 'As punk albums go, The Spaghetti Incident? lacks righteous anger and rage. As Guns N' Roses albums go, it's a complete delight, returning to the ferocious, hard-rocking days of Appetite for Destruction'.

Is This Desire? is a 1998 (see 1998 in music) album by British singer-songwriter PJ Harvey.
Recorded on and off in Dorset and London between April 1997 and April 1998, it was co-produced by Flood, Head and Harvey herself, and featured instrumental contributions from Rob Ellis, John Parish, Mick Harvey, Eric Drew Feldman, Joe Gore and Jeremy Hogg. It marked a move away from Harvey\u2019s earlier guitar-driven rock style into subtler, quieter, atmospheric soundscapes and mood pieces based around keyboards, bass and electronics.
The album met with a mixed reception from critics and fans upon release, some of whom were disappointed by Harvey\u2019s experimental and less bombastic new style. Reviews were generally positive, however. Q magazine praised the record as 'disturbing and excellent', CMJ called it 'another milestone in her already illustrious career', and Entertainment Weekly said it 'seethes with hypnotic power'

Although it did not sell as well as her 1995 commercial breakthrough To Bring You My Love, it did spawn her biggest UK hit with the single 'A Perfect Day Elise'

Blackpool Illuminations is an annual Lights Festival, founded in 1879 and first switched on 18 September that year, held each autumn in the English seaside resort of Blackpool on the Fylde Coast in Lancashire.
Also known locally as The Lights or The Illuminations, they run each year for sixty-six days, from late August until early November at a time when most other English seaside resorts' seasons are coming to an end. Dubbed as 'the greatest free light show on earth', they are 6 miles (10 km) long and use over one million bulbs. The display stretches along the Promenade from Starr Gate at the south end of the town to Bispham in the north.
In 2011 the Illuminations will shine from 2 September to 6 November 2011

Eddie Vedder (born Edward Louis Severson III 1964) is an American musician and singer-songwriter who currently serves as the lead vocalist and one of four guitarists for the American alternative rock band Pearl Jam. Vedder left the Southern California music scene and moved to Seattle, Washington in 1990 to join Pearl Jam where he rose to fame amid the grunge movement of the early 1990s. He is notable for his baritone vocal style, and widely considered a cultural icon of alternative rock.

In the Celtic Christian world it was combined with the Christian cross and this design was often used for high crosses. These are free-standing crosses made of stone and often richly decorated.
With the Celtic Revival, the shape, usually decorated with interlace and other motifs from Insular art, became popular for funerary monuments and other uses, and has remained so, spreading well beyond the British Isles.
It is popular in Cornwall where an individual feeling of ancient culture lives on, as can be seen in the Barnoon cemetary here, which overlooks the St Ives surfing beach of Porthmeor.
In Celtic regions of Ireland and later in Great Britain, many free-standing upright crosses or high crosses were erected by Irish monks, beginning at least as early as the 7th century. Some of these 'Celtic' crosses bear inscriptions in runes. There are surviving free-standing crosses in Cornwall (famously St Piran's cross at Perranporth) and Wales, on the island of Iona and in the Hebrides, as well as the many in Ireland. Other stone crosses are found in the former Northumbria and Scotland, and further south in England.
Due to its simplicity as a symboil, in Germany, the Celtic cross was adopted by a prohibited neo-Nazi party (VSBD/PdA) leading to the ban of the symbol.

It is supported in true victorian fashion by 600 iron piles, and is 400 metres long. Unfortunatly it has form where fire is concerned. It has been damaged by fire on two occasions in 1930 and 2008.
At 01:35 on the 28 July 2008, a fire at the foot of the north tower on the shoreward (eastern) end of the pavilion triggered the privately monitored fire alarm. The Essex-based alarm monitoring company were unable to contact the key-holder by mobile phone and no further action was taken.
It was not until 06:46 that the Avon Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS) was notified, by this time a hefty blaze was under way. It deployed 13 fire engines, special appliances, and more than 85 firefighters to tackle the blaze, but the building was soon destroyed.
Robert Tinker, a Grand Pier employee, was later praised by the fire service as he braved the extreme intensity of the heat from the flames to rush around the side of the building to remove several gas canisters which had been stored within the premises, had these not been removed the AFRS claim that the fire could have been much worse and with the possibility of needing evacuation of local residents and traders.
Preliminary investigations suggested that the fire started due to a number of deep fat fryers which had been located within the area pavilion, however after further investigation this was later ruled out, as was arson. On 22 October a news conference was held by AFRS who announced that despite their efforts the cause of the fire would be recorded as unknown, but that the most likely cause was an electrical fire.
Workmen began dismantling the wreckage on 12th September and a design competition for the new pavilion was won by the Bristol-based Angus Meek Architects' on 15th October. On 7th December it was announced that a slowly rotating 91 metres (299 ft) tall observation tower was proposed along with the new building.
On 12 March 2009, North Somerset Council approved the plans, which are to cost \u00a334 million. The new pavilion is expected to open in the summer of 2010. On 5 August 2009 it was announced that contractors John Sisk &
Son Ltd had been selected to construct the new pavilion and it was hoped that it would be completed by July 2010. These lads are working on the project. Jeff Bonvallet is at the far right.

Physical Graffiti is the 6th album by Led Zeppelin. I find it difficult to pick just one track from this spectacular double album.
It was released on 24 February 1975. Recording sessions for the album were initially disrupted when John Paul Jones considered leaving the band. After reuniting at Headley Grange, the band wrote and recorded eight songs, the combined length of which stretched the album beyond the typical length of an LP. This prompted the band to make Physical Graffiti a double album by including previously unreleased tracks from earlier recording sessions.
Physical Graffiti was commercially and critically successful
the album is 16 times platinum (though this signifies sales of 8 million copies, as it is a double album) in the United States alone, and has come to be regarded as one of Led Zeppelin's defining works. The album is ranked highly on several prominent best album or best rock album lists of all time.

Fleetsbridge Underpass Grafitti, Poole, Dorset UK
This brilliant piece of colourfull grafitti and tagging stretches ten slabs of concrete in an underpass adjacent to a skatepark. It is a joiner of five wide images.
This was a youth arts project to design a new mural for the Fleetsbridge Skate Park, Creekmoor. west of Poole, under the A35
The final design was painted at the skate park around Easter 2007, followed by a celebration event on the final day to launch the new mural. The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt turned out with other supporters of this project to see the finished mural and congratulate everyone involved for their hard work.
This great project was funded by the Community Foundation , Borough of Poole and Wave Arts Education Agency, and in partnership with the Creekmoor Community Association and Millennium Volunteers. The project brought in professional artist Felix Braun to conduct workshops for 120 young people from various schools and youth clubs across Poole.
Three young people gained a Youth Arts Award qualification whilst working on their project, which they can use towards future youth arts careers. Good for them !
Amazingly on the end of the bypass wall is a council sign stating 'No Grafitti'.

Poole Quay is a visitor attraction to the south of the town centre lined with a mixture of traditional public houses, redeveloped warehouses, modern apartment blocks and historic listed buildings. Once the busy centre of Poole's maritime industry, all port activities moved to Hamworthy in the 1970s as the Quay became increasingly popular with tourists.
The Grade II* listed Customs House on the quay-front was built in 1814 and now functions as a restaurant and bar. Nearby the Grade I listed Town Cellars, a medieval warehouse built in the 15th century on the foundations of a 14th century stone building, houses a local history centre.
Scaplen's Court, another Grade I listed building, also dates from the medieval era. The Poole Pottery production factory once stood on the eastern end of the Quay but the site was redeveloped into a luxury apartment block and marina in 2001, although an outlet store remains on the site. Boats regularly depart from the quay during the summer and provide cruises around the harbour and to Brownsea Island, the River Frome and Swanage.
Public artworks along the Quay include Sea Music ? a large metal sculpture designed by Sir Anthony Caro, and a life-size bronze sculpture of Robert Baden-Powell created to celebrate the founding of the Scout Movement on Brownsea Island. At the western end of the quay near the mouth of Holes Bay is Poole Bridge. Built in 1927, it is the third bridge to be located on the site since 1834

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R15NFR - Another Place is a piece of modern sculpture by British artist Antony Gormley located at Crosby Beach in Merseyside, England. It consists of 100 cast iron figures facing towards the sea. The figures are modelled on the artist's own naked body.[1] The work proved controversial due to the naked statues but has increased tourism to the beach. After being exhibited at two other locations it was put on display at Crosby on 1 July 2005. After some controversy Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council decided on 7 March 2007 that the sculptures should be permanently installed at the beach
The work consists of cast iron figures which face out to sea, spread over a 2-mile (3.2 km) stretch of beach between Waterloo and Blundellsands. Each figure is 189 centimetres (6 ft 2 in) tall and weighs around 650 kilograms (1,430 lb). The figures are cast replicas of Gormley's own body. As the tides ebb and flow, the figures are revealed and submerged by the sea, and are subject to corrosion by seawater and colonisation by marine animals. The figures were cast at Hargreaves Foundry in Halifax, West Yorkshire and the Joseph and Jesse Siddons Foundry in West Bromwich by foundryman Derek Alexander
