Five European wine-producing nations are trying to block Scotland's plans for minimum alcohol pricing.
France, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Bulgaria have said the policy is illegal, unfair and ineffective and could have a devastating impact on the wine and spirits industry.
They argue that it breaches European free trade law by discriminating against imported alcohol products.
The Scottish government insisted minimum pricing was perfectly legal.
The European Commission (EC) is currently considering the Scottish government's request to be granted an exemption from trade regulations to enact the minimum price law which was approved by the Scottish Parliament last year.

Greyfriars Kirk has played an important role in the religious, civic and political history of Edinburgh and Scotland. Construction began in the early seventeenth century, and the church opened in 1620 as the first new kirk built in Edinburgh after the Scottish Reformation. The site had earlier been associated with Franciscan friars, whose grey habits are reflected in the Greyfriars name. The kirk is also closely linked with the National Covenant of 1638, a defining event in Scottish religious and constitutional history.
The surrounding Greyfriars Kirkyard is one of Edinburgh's most famous burial grounds, containing old monuments, carved headstones and memorials to notable citizens. It is strongly associated with the Covenanters, the former Covenanters' Prison and the story of Greyfriars Bobby, the faithful dog traditionally said to have guarded his master's grave. The kirkyard is also a major stop on Edinburgh history, ghost and walking tours, attracting visitors interested in genealogy, architecture, religion and the darker stories of the Old Town.
Situated close to Candlemaker Row and George IV Bridge, Greyfriars Kirk forms part of the historic fabric of central Edinburgh. The upward viewpoint emphasises the entrance ironwork and church facade, while the dramatic weather, aged masonry and silhouetted railings create a strong editorial image of Scottish heritage, faith, tourism and urban history.
