Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AR6MXW - Haymarket railway station is the second largest railway station in Edinburgh, Scotland, after Waverley railway station.
The station serves as a major commuter and long-distance destination, located near the city centre, in the West End. Trains from the station serve much of Scotland, including Fife and Glasgow, as well as suburban lines to the east, and the East Coast Main Line through to London King's Cross. It is the seventh busiest railway station in Scotland
During 1842, Haymarket railway station was opened as the original terminus of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway. The station represented the launch of a new age of travelling opportunities to the Scottish capital, being the first intercity route to be built and offering a previously unheard of journey time of two and a half hours between Scotland's two largest cities. Reportedly, early passenger numbers were far in excess of any expectations held during the line's construction, having topped one million by 1846. Due to backlash from the Church of Scotland, the early practice of running Sunday trains was suspended
During 1983, British Rail performed some alterations to the station
Haymarket's original train shed was demolished while its footbridge was replaced by a smaller counterpart and new platform canopies were installed
Under EGIP, £25 million was allocated for the redevelopment of Haymarket Station. The station's new design was developed by a multi- discipline team, headed by the Halcrow Group, the work's lead consultant
IDP Architects designed much of the programme's architectural aspects, while SVM Glasgow provided mechanical and electrical engineering support. Factors which had to be taken into account included the booking office's category A listed building, its prominent location in the city, and newly-developed tram network Edinburgh Trams that was to be incorporated in the station's role as a transport hub. During December 2011, construction company Morgan Sindall Group were awarded the £25

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AERR71 - Stirling railway station is a railway station located in Stirling, Scotland. It is located on the former Caledonian Railway main line between Glasgow and Perth. It is the junction for the branch line to Alloa and Dunfermline via Kincardine and is also served by trains on the Edinburgh to Dunblane Line and long-distance services to Dundee and Aberdeen and to Inverness via the Highland Main Line.
The station building was constructed in 1915 by James Miller, and is listed by Historic Environment Scotland as a Category A listed building. His design continues the circular spaces and flowing curves of his celebrated Wemyss Bay station.
The station houses a Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) from the British Transport Police. Currently two officers work from Stirling and cover Stirling, Alloa, Bridge of Allan, Camelon, Dunblane, Falkirk High, Falkirk Grahamston and Larbert.
The Stirling Area Command of the Forth Valley Division of Police Scotland cover the territorial area the Stirling NPT cover and will assist when the BTP officers are not available.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K41M11 - Exhibition Centre railway station, previously called Finnieston (19791986) and Stobcross (18941959) due to its location in the Stobcross area of the city, is a railway station in Glasgow on the Argyle Line. It serves the OVO Hydro, the SEC Centre and the SEC Armadillo which are accessible by adjoining footbridge from an island platform. The station suffers badly from congestion at concerts as most of Greater Glasgow can be reached from the station. There is a siding adjacent to Platform 2, that can be used as a turnback siding for trains terminating at Anderston or Glasgow Central Low Level. The line is served by Class 318s and Class 320s. Ticket gates are in operation.

For those feeling peckish, food is fine, flavoursome, and focuses on small plates and sharing boards. Afternoon Tea has a special place on the menu and is of course best taken with a glass of Champagne.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy P72CPJ - Horrid' 1970s buildings to make way for Queen Street station revamp
The demolition of horrid 1970s buildings that mask Queen Street station in Glasgow has begun as part of its £120 million redevelopment. A hotel extension and office block will be removed to make way for expansion of the station to accommodate longer electric trains. The complex, which handles some 20 million passengers a year, will stay open during the transformation, which is due to be completed in 2020. The overhaul will include a new glass frontage onto George Square - a view blocked since the 1970s by an extension of the Millennium Hotel. The addition, built on pillars, will be demolished, along with the adjacent Consort House office block, built around 1975, which housed Strathclyde Partnership for Transport until 2016. Excavators have been lifted by crane onto the 30m-high (100ft) roof of Consort House to break up its reinforced concrete and steel frame, floor-by-floor. Consort House is being demolished as part of the expansion of Queen Street Station.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F89PGX - Edinburgh Waverley railway station, often simply referred to as Waverley, or as Edinburgh, is the main railway station in the Scottish capital Edinburgh. Covering an area of over 25 acres (10 ha) in the centre of the city, it is the second-largest main line railway station in the United Kingdom in terms of area, the largest being London Waterloo
and is both a terminal station and a through station, in contrast to the majority of central London stations. Ticketing generally regards Waverley and Haymarket as interchangeable subject to operator validity.
It is one of 19 stations managed by Network Rail. It is the northern limit of the East Coast Main Line to Network Rail infrastructure definition, but through-services operate to Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen, Perth and Inverness.
There are many local services operated by ScotRail, including the four routes to Glasgow, the Fife Circle, and services to Stirling/Dunblane/Alloa/North Berwick/Dunbar, and the station is the terminus of the Edinburgh leg of the West Coast Main Line served by Virgin Trains and First TransPennine Express. Long distance inter-city trains to England are operated by CrossCountry to destinations such as York, Leeds, Sheffield, Derby, Birmingham New Street, Bristol Temple Meads, Exeter St Davids and Plymouth.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DANJMR - Passenger help point at Slateford ScotRail railway station near Edinburgh, Scotland, photographed beside a white picket fence and leafy platform boundary in bright daylight. The image shows a yellow circular Help Point sign, a red and white assistance symbol, an orange and grey intercom unit, speaker grille and push button, with clear wording telling passengers to press the button and speak clearly for train information or emergency contact. The notice also warns that CCTV control is connected to the system and that misuse may result in prosecution. This is a strong editorial stock image for unstaffed railway stations, passenger safety, rail accessibility, help points, emergency communication, suburban transport, public information systems and the everyday infrastructure behind Scotland's railway network. Slateford is a suburban station in the west of Edinburgh, served by ScotRail trains on routes linking the city with Glasgow, Shotts, Carstairs and other parts of central Scotland. The help point is particularly relevant because smaller stations may not have staffed ticket offices or a visible member of staff on site, so passengers rely on signs, public address systems, CCTV, intercoms, live information displays and mobile travel apps to get assistance. The photograph can illustrate stories about public transport access, passenger confidence, lone travel, station security, disability support, service disruption, railway modernisation, transport funding and the tension between cost-saving staffing models and the need for reassurance at quieter stops. Visible details include the bold yellow sign, warning text, ScotRail reference, tactile height position, metal post, trees, gravel, fencing and clean platform-side setting. The image is useful for railway, safety, infrastructure, accessibility, customer service and Scottish transport themes, especially where a generic visual is needed for station assistance rather than trains themselves.
