Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EE4M9B - DTX Manchester exhibition inside Manchester Central, showing delegates, trade stands, digital screens and the wide arched roof of the former Manchester Central railway station, now used as a major convention and exhibition venue. The scene records a business technology event focused on digital transformation, enterprise IT, cloud, data, AI, cyber security, software engineering, infrastructure, managed services and workplace technology. The image is useful for editorial and commercial use around Manchester's technology sector, business conferences, trade exhibitions, digital strategy, innovation, networking, procurement, supplier showcases and professional learning. DTX Manchester 2026 is publicly listed as taking place at Manchester Central on 29 and 30 April 2026, so the supplied date of 30 March 2026 should be treated cautiously unless confirmed by the photographer's own capture data. The event is associated with Manchester Digital and Manchester Tech Week activity, bringing technology leaders, suppliers, consultants and business users together in the city centre. The photograph shows an indoor exhibition floor with blue carpet, visitor seating, delegate movement, branded stands and the distinctive glazed end wall and clock of Manchester Central, giving strong visual context for a large-scale B2B event. It can illustrate stories about digital transformation in the North of England, AI adoption, cloud migration, cyber security resilience, data governance, managed IT services, software selection, supplier marketing, technology procurement and the growth of Manchester as a UK digital hub. The lighting is artificial indoor exhibition lighting, with a cool business-event atmosphere and no visible weather conditions. The image also works for conference attendance, business networking, exhibition venues, urban regeneration of historic railway architecture and Manchester Central as a major civic and commercial events space.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E93472 - Wide editorial exterior view of the Tesla Centre and Certified Pre-Owned Wolverhampton at Unit 2 Mammoth Drive, showing the modern grey-clad showroom building with large Tesla lettering, glazed frontage, marked parking bays and customer vehicles outside. The scene captures a contemporary electric vehicle retail and service environment in the West Midlands, suitable for editorial use on subjects including Tesla expansion in the UK, EV retail infrastructure, certified pre-owned electric cars, automotive branding, low-emission transport, car dealership architecture and the changing geography of vehicle sales away from traditional franchised forecourts. The broad frontage, clean lines and prominent corporate signage make the image useful for stories about battery electric vehicles, direct-to-consumer car sales, automotive technology, sustainable transport policy, charging-led motoring lifestyles and the rapid normalisation of EV ownership in regional city markets. This photograph also works for commercial and documentary searches around Wolverhampton business parks, Midlands commercial property, showroom design, car retail premises, used EV sales, manufacturer-owned outlets, aftersales support, Tesla service locations and the visual identity of one of the world's most recognisable electric car brands. With overcast spring light, orderly parking layout and a practical trading setting rather than a glamour shot, the image has a grounded news and business feel that suits reporting on used car values, fleet transition, consumer confidence in second-hand EVs, transport decarbonisation and the continued build-out of specialist electric vehicle sales and service networks across England. The distant skyline, access road markings and visible stock vehicles help place the site in a real operating context rather than a staged promotional scene, which strengthens its value for editorial features about UK motoring change, regional investment and everyday EV adoption.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E424B1 - A Park View Residences investment hoarding stands outside Hilden House in Warrington town centre, advertising apartments through RWinvest with an Invest Today message, phone number and website. The image shows the marketing of a former office building being repositioned as residential property, with sales language aimed at buy-to-let investors rather than owner-occupiers. Hilden House is a prominent former office block on Sankey Street, close to Warrington Town Hall and the Golden Gates, and planning reports in 2025 described an office-to-residential conversion creating around 100 new homes. RWinvest markets Park View as a Warrington development with prices from around £164,950 and promoted rental returns. This makes the photograph commercially useful for stories about office conversions, town centre housing, regeneration, rental demand, buy-to-let investment, private rented sector growth, housing supply, urban living and the changing use of older commercial buildings. It can also illustrate the more critical side of property investment advertising, including investor-led housing schemes, off-plan sales, yield promises, affordability concerns, financial risk, landlordism, speculative property marketing and the blurred line between regeneration and wealth-building sales pitches. Care should be taken not to call the specific scheme a get rich quick scheme as a factual claim, but the image can legitimately support editorial discussion of that kind of marketing tone and the risks of simple returns-led property promotion. The black hoarding, gold lettering, CGI apartment image and large phone number create a clear visual of how residential redevelopment is sold to investors before completion. As a documentary stock image, it records the commercial face of Warrington town centre redevelopment, where ageing office space is being converted into homes amid wider pressure for housing, rental income and urban regeneration.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E0NWNM - A quirky, humorous and slightly surreal shop window display in Beverley, East Yorkshire, showing white plastic shopping bags printed with the slogan I Love Sale' arranged over mannequin forms, with wooden arms and mustard-coloured lower body shapes visible beneath. The display turns a familiar retail sales message into an eye-catching visual joke, using the heart symbol, bold lettering and disjointed mannequin parts to create a striking example of visual merchandising on the British high street. Set against a ribbed metal shutter backdrop, the composition mixes humour, fashion retail and a touch of eccentricity, making it useful for editorial and commercial themes linked to shopping, spending, bargains, discount culture and consumer behaviour. The image captures the kind of inventive window dressing often used by independent shops and smaller town-centre retailers to pull in passing trade, especially during seasonal reductions, end-of-line clearances and promotional events. Beverley, a historic market town in the East Riding of Yorkshire, provides an apt setting because its shopping streets combine heritage character with everyday local commerce, independent businesses and traditional high street activity. This photograph can illustrate concepts such as British retail culture, sale season marketing, economic caution, consumer temptation, bargain hunting, visual display techniques, quirky shopfronts and the struggle for attention in physical retail environments. It also works well as a documentary image of northern England street life, local business character and the playful creativity that can appear in shop windows. With its bold wording, instantly readable message and unusual mannequin styling, the scene has strong relevance for articles, blogs and features about retail promotion, town centre footfall, shopping habits, independent traders, merchandising ideas, recession-era spending patterns and the visual language of sales advertising in UK town centres.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3DM98YA - A lively winter dusk street scene outside the Marks & Spencer department store on Market Street in Manchester city centre. The photograph is taken from a low, slightly angled viewpoint that emphasises the building's sweeping curved glass frontage and the large, readable MARKS & SPENCER signage wrapping around the corner. Warm interior lighting spills onto the pavement while the sky holds a deepening blue, creating a classic blue hour contrast between cool outdoor tones and the bright retail glow inside.
In the foreground, dense crowds of shoppers in winter coats stream past the entrance, queue, pause, and regroup, capturing the real feel of Manchester's busiest shopping street at peak footfall. The mix of faces and movement gives the image strong editorial value for stories about city-centre retail, consumer behaviour, seasonal shopping, and the everyday rhythm of the UK high street. The composition also works as a clear location identifier, balancing the recognisable brand frontage with the wider public realm, street lighting, and the bustle of an urban evening.
The scene suits a wide range of uses, from travel and lifestyle coverage of Manchester as a city-break destination, to business and economic pieces on retail performance, footfall, and the continuing role of large department stores in central shopping districts. The winter timing is communicated through the low light, bundled clothing, and the after-work atmosphere, making it a versatile image for headlines and general illustration.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RTJRXC - The British Museum has come under pressure after it sacked a member of staff over around 2,000 treasures reported missing, stolen or damaged.
The discovery at the museum, one of the nation's biggest cultural institutions, has led to the departure of its director and raised serious questions about its security and record keeping.
Police are investigating the theft of items including gold, jewellery and gems of semi-precious stones.
The missing treasures scandal began on 16 August, when the British Museum released a statement confirming it had identified objects missing from its collection.
Former chancellor George Osborne, who has been chair of the British Museum since June 2021, confirmed to the BBC on 26 August that around 2,000 objects were missing.
The museum has not disclosed further details. The BBC understands that Scotland Yard has asked the museum not to for now.
It is understood the missing items were taken before this year and over a significant period of time. Some of them ended up on eBay, being sold for considerably less than their actual estimated value.
None of the treasures, which dated from the 15th Century BC to the 19th Century AD, had recently been on display and had been kept primarily for academic and research purposes, the museum said. The majority of them were kept in a storeroom.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2REGJ3J - This image shows the exterior of a Clintons greeting card shop at Weaver Square on Witton Street in Northwich town centre, Cheshire. The store occupies a prominent corner unit within a traditional half-timbered style building, featuring black-and-white detailing that reflects historic architectural influences often replicated in British town-centre developments.
Bright red Clintons branding runs across the storefront, while large SALE posters fill the display windows, indicating a retail promotion or clearance period. Additional window graphics advertise card and gift products, reinforcing the shop's focus on greetings cards, seasonal items, and small gifts.
The photograph was taken in daylight under partly cloudy blue skies, with bunting visible overhead, suggesting a festive or community-oriented town-centre environment. Weaver Square is a pedestrianised shopping area forming part of Northwich's retail core, linking national chains with independent shops.
The image captures a familiar scene on the modern UK high street, combining national retail branding, promotional sales activity, and traditional town-centre architecture within a local shopping setting.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PGT90G - J Sainsbury plc, trading as Sainsbury's, is the second largest chain of supermarkets in the United Kingdom, with a 14.6% share of UK supermarket sales in September 2022.
Founded in 1869 by John James Sainsbury with a shop in Drury Lane, London, the company was the largest UK retailer of groceries for most of the 20th century. In 1995, Tesco became the market leader when it overtook Sainsbury's, which has since been ranked second or third: it was overtaken by Asda from 2003 to 2014, and again in 2019. In 2018, a planned merger with Asda was blocked by the Competition and Markets Authority over concerns of increased prices for consumers.
The holding company, J Sainsbury plc, is split into three divisions: Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd (including convenience shops), Sainsbury's Bank, and Argos. As of 2021, the largest overall shareholder is the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar, the Qatar Investment Authority, which holds 14.99% of the company. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.
In 2012, Jel Singh Nagra, a shop keeper from North Tyneside, was threatened with legal action from Sainsbury's after he named his shop Singhsbury's. It complained about his logo design and the name. Nagra changed the shop name to Morrisinghs. Morrisons wished him well.
A Singhbury's Local in Aylesbury removed its sign after intervention from Sainsbury's in 2017
Ownership in February 2023 was as follows:
Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) shareholding stood at 14.3% shares.
Vesa Equity Investment, the vehicle of Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky shareholding stood at 10% shares.
Costcutter owner Bestway shareholding stood at 4.47% shares

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R5PPBX - This image shows a WeBuyAnyCar concession kiosk positioned within the car park of a Morrisons supermarket in Stockton Heath, Warrington. The small standalone unit features the company's distinctive green and white branding and promotes on-the-spot vehicle valuation and purchasing services for members of the public.
WeBuyAnyCar operates a nationwide network of kiosks and pods, often located in supermarket car parks and retail parks, allowing customers to sell used vehicles quickly without visiting traditional dealerships. The model reflects broader changes in the UK motor trade, where convenience, speed, and digital pricing tools increasingly shape consumer behaviour.
Supermarket-based concessions such as this illustrate how everyday retail locations have diversified to include financial, automotive, and service-based offerings. For shoppers, the co-location of food retail and car-buying services highlights the growing role of supermarkets as multifunctional community hubs.
Photographed in daylight with no customers present, the image provides a clear documentary view of contemporary UK consumer services and roadside retail infrastructure. It is well suited for editorial use covering the used car market, retail diversification, consumer behaviour, and the changing character of out-of-town shopping environments.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2KBYXBN - Artist's brush shapes
The styles of brush tip seen most commonly are:
Round: pointed tip, long closely arranged bristles for detail.
Flat: for spreading paint quickly and evenly over a surface. They will have longer hairs than their Bright counterpart.
Bright: shorter than flats. Flat brushes with short stiff bristles, good for driving paint into the weave of a canvas in thinner paint applications, as well as thicker painting styles like impasto work.
Filbert: flat brushes with domed ends. They allow good coverage and the ability to perform some detail work.
Fan: for blending broad areas of paint.
Angle: like the filbert, these are versatile and can be applied in both general painting application as well as some detail work.
Mop: a larger format brush with a rounded edge for broad soft paint application as well as for getting thinner glazes over existing drying layers of paint without damaging lower layers to protect the paintbrush
Rigger: round brushes with longish hairs, traditionally used for painting the rigging in pictures of ships. They are useful for fine lines and are versatile for both oils and watercolors.
Stippler and deer-foot stippler: short, stubby rounds
Liner: elongated rounds
Dagger looks like angle with longish hairs, used for one stroke painting like painting long leaves.
Scripts: highly elongated rounds
Egbert : a filbert with extra long hair, used for oil painting

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JX2RPH - There are mainly two types of ice cream vans in the United Kingdom: a hard van, which sells scoop ice cream and is only equipped with a freezer and a soft van, which has a freezer and also a soft serve whippy machine for serving ice cream cones and screwballs. They are usually converted from factory standard vans with the rear cut away and replaced with a fibre glass body (to reduce the weight).
Because of the British climate, running an ice cream van profitably is not only very difficult outside summer, but is also an unpredictable business. A summer heatwave can provoke a massive upturn in fortunes for a few days, but after the weather has cooled sales drop off dramatically. The need to take advantage of rare and short-lived opportunities can result in fierce rivalry between ice cream vans in coterminous areas, with the main disputes being over who is entitled to sell ice cream in a particular 'patch'. This has also led to some ice cream van vendors diversifying and selling other products such as crisps, chips, burgers or hot dogs from their vehicles at other times of the year.
In a number of Local Authority areas, particularly in London Boroughs with existing street markets, street trading regulations prohibit ice cream vans from remaining in one static location. The legislation also contains powers to ban ice-cream vans from specific streets. Proposals in the current London Local Authorities Bill would allow only 15 minutes trading per vehicle per street each day. There also exists a nationwide code of practice for the use of chimes, which limits the volume to 80 dB and the duration to twelve seconds, but these are rarely observed nor enforced. Chimes must not be played more often than every three minutes, near hospitals, schools and churches when they are in use.
In Scotland, ice cream vans have been used to sell smuggled cigarettes and, in the 1980s Glasgow ice cream wars, as front organizations to sell illicit drugs

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JTJYKF - THERE is good news for electric vehicle drivers in and around Warrington, as the council has announced free electric charging at its Time Square car park and Warrington West station.
The initiative, which has been confirmed for at least the next six months, will help to support those who are making the switch from petrol and diesel to electric.
There are currently 56 charging points at the Time Square car park one of the highest number of charging points in a single location in the country with another 12 charging points available at the new Warrington West station.
The move to offering free electric vehicle charging comes after the council's climate emergency declaration in June.
The plans to encourage electric vehicle travel also support the council's Air Quality Action Plan, which aims to reduce nitrogen dioxide levels within the main, busy traffic routes leading into and around the town.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, cabinet member for environment, who drives an electric car herself, said: It's great news that I'm able to announce free charging points for electric vehicle users here in Warrington. We're committed to doing all we can to help people become more environmentally-friendly in and around the borough - more at https://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/news/18243487.free-electric-vehicle-charging-points-warrington-west-time-square-car-parks/

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JRMW22 - Marmalade is a fruit preserve made from the juice and peel of citrus fruits boiled with sugar and water. The well-known version is made from bitter orange. It is also made from lemons, limes, grapefruits, mandarins, sweet oranges, bergamots, and other citrus fruits, or a combination. Citrus is the most typical choice of fruit for marmalade, though historically the term has often been used for non-citrus preserves.
The preferred citrus fruit for marmalade production is the Spanish Seville or bitter orange, Citrus aurantium var. aurantium, prized for its high pectin content, which sets readily to the thick consistency expected of marmalade. The peel imparts a bitter taste.
The word marmalade is borrowed from the Portuguese marmelada, from marmelo 'quince'.
Unlike jam, a large quantity of water is added to the fruit in a marmalade, the extra liquid being set by the high pectin content of the fruit. In this respect it is like a jelly, but whereas the fruit pulp and peel is strained out of a jelly to give it its characteristic clarity, it is retained in a marmalade
Paddington Bear is known for his liking of marmalade, particularly in sandwiches, and kept it in his briefcase wherever he went

The company was founded by Arnold Clark, who opened his first showroom in 1954 in Park Road in Glasgow. In 1963, Arnold Clark Finance was launched. In the 1960s the company began rental vehicles and in 1968 took over Grant, Melrose and Tennant giving the company an accident repair centre.
Clark took over other motor businesses such as the Glasgow dealership McHarg, Rennie and Lindsay. Clark's biggest branch was gained through the takeover of Ross of Lochrin in Edinburgh

The takeover of the Weir group in September 2012 also saw the company expand into the market of Mercedes-Benz. Acquisitions also included a site near Aberdeen, and a dealership and bodyshop in Blackpool
It has a purpose-built head office in Hillington which houses a dealership of Renault, this was completed in 2016. May 2016, the company's marketing department was named 'In-House Marketing Team of the Year' at The Drum Awards 2016. In 2022, the company won Dealer Group of the Year as well as Retailer of the Year at the Automotive Management 2022 Awards

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2ADR28Y - Manchester Arndale (one of a number of shopping centres in the UK by the same developers, also known simply as the Arndale Centre or the Arndale) is a large shopping centre in Manchester, England. It was constructed in phases between 1972 and 1979, at a cost of £100 million. Manchester Arndale is the largest of the chain of Arndale Centres built across the UK in the 1960s and 1970s. It was redeveloped after the 1996 Manchester bombing.
The centre has a retail floorspace of just under 1,400,000 sq ft (130,000 m2) (not including Selfridges and Marks and Spencer department stores to which it is connected via a link bridge), making it Europe's third largest city-centre shopping mall. It is one of the largest shopping centres in the UK, with 41 million visitors annually, ahead of the Trafford Centre, which attracts 35 million
By the late 1990s, the Centre was no longer owned by the Arndale Property Trust. A rebranding was proposed but abandoned. Today the Centre is jointly owned by M&G Real Estate and intu.
With the large-scale redevelopment of the centre since the 1996 bombing, it has a retail floorspace of 1,300,000 sq ft (120,000 m2), making it Europe's largest city-centre shopping mall, a record it has held continuously since construction apart from a brief spell during the northern redevelopment when the title was held by the Birmingham Bullring. The 96 metre tall Arndale Tower, which contains commercial office space, is currently Manchester's fifth tallest building.
Like many large shopping malls, Manchester Arndale has a food court. The Food-Chain, opened as Voyagers in 1991, is an 800-seat food court situated on the second floor

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AERR67 - Primark is an Irish fast fashion retailer with headquarters in Dublin, Ireland, and a subsidiary of the British food processing and retail company ABF. The company is named Penneys in the Republic of Ireland, where it was founded. The Penneys brand is not used outside of Ireland because it is owned elsewhere by American retailer J. C. Penney. The company has operations in Europe and the United States.
The company's first store, still in operation, was founded by Arthur Ryan on behalf of the Weston family (who had founded Associated British Foods in 1935) in June 1969 on 47 Mary Street, Dublin.
Success in the Republic of Ireland led to expansion into Northern Ireland, with Penneys opening a large store in Belfast City Centre in 1971. The company subsequently expanded outside of Ireland with a Primark store in Derby, England, in 1973. The company could not use the name Penneys in Europe outside Ireland as it was registered by J. C. Penney. The name Primark was then invented to use outside Ireland
Primark offers a diverse range of products, including baby and children's clothing, womenswear, menswear, homeware, accessories, footwear, beauty products and confectionery

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy P9R752 - St Rocco's Hospice provides specialist care and support across Warrington, helping those who are coping with a life-limiting illness.
We provide quality care and promote social, psychological and spiritual wellbeing
for patients with life limiting illness, and in doing so place patients,
carers and families at the heart of everything that we do.
Here to help: a place of care, a tower of strength
St Rocco's Hospice supports the borough of Warrington, a community of over 200,000 people. We provide highly specialised care along with a wide range of services to support those who have been diagnosed with illnesses which are terminal, or life-limiting.
Julie Gloria ClaireCare that's not available elsewhere
Many of our people are trained to a very high level, and provide services which are not readily available elsewhere in the area working with other healthcare professionals, such as your GP or hospital.
A registered charity, dependent on your support
All of the care we provide is free, for both patients and their carers. We don't even charge for car parking. Yet only around a third of our funding is provided by the NHS
the rest comes directly from the wonderful community which we support via fundraising activities such as sponsorships, legacies (money left in wills) and donations and through our many shops and the hospice lottery. Without your help, we couldn't provide the care we do.
More than just a building
St. Rocco's has inpatient beds, provides day therapy care, living well services, a neighbourhood support service and Hospice At Home service. You can find more information about all our services in the 'Our Care' section.
St Rocco's Hospice is regulated by the Care Quality Commission and the Charity Commission.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2BGRC71 - A pasty is a British baked pastry, a traditional variety of which is particularly associated with Cornwall, South West England, but has spread all over the British Isles. It is made by placing an uncooked filling, typically meat and vegetables, in the middle of a flat shortcrust pastry circle, bringing the edges together in the middle, and crimping over the top to form a seal before baking.
The traditional Cornish pasty, which since 2011 has had Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status in Europe, is filled with beef, sliced or diced potato, swede (also known as yellow turnip or rutabaga referred to in Cornwall and other parts of the West Country as turnip) and onion, seasoned with salt and pepper, and baked. Today, the pasty is the food most associated with Cornwall. It is a traditional dish and accounts for 6% of the Cornish food economy. Pasties with many different fillings are made, and some shops specialise in selling pasties.
The origins of the pasty are unclear, though there are many references to them throughout historical documents and fiction. The pasty is now popular worldwide because of the spread of Cornish miners and sailors from across Cornwall, and variations can be found in Australia, Mexico, the United States, Ulster and elsewhere.
Pasties resemble turnovers from many other cuisines and cultures, including the bridie in Scotland, empanada in Spanish-speaking countries, pirog in Eastern Europe, samsa in Central Asia, curry puff in Southeast Asia, and shaobing in China
