Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2T20EA5 - Taken on 14 Oct 2023, this photograph shows Russia Is a Terrorist State - Ukrainians in Birmingham city centre to protest the invasion of Ukraine by Putin of Russia, Victoria Square. The location is Victoria Square, Birmingham, England, B1 1BD. The picture is not just a record shot: it contains visible signage, colour, materials, location clues and everyday street detail that make the image more specific than a generic stock photograph. The protest reflects the continuing public response in British cities to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with Victoria Square used as a civic space for banners, solidarity and democratic expression. Tenant Satisfaction Measures have become part of the regulatory framework for social housing in England, giving the concept image relevance for landlords, councils, residents, scrutiny panels and data-quality stories. It can be used in editorial features, business reports, local-history writing, travel guides, public-policy explainers, educational material and SEO-led stock-photo searches needing a specific real-world image. For image buyers, the value is in the combination of recognisable subject, readable wording, location evidence and a plain documentary style that can be dropped into news, magazine, web, council, housing, transport, heritage or commercial commentary without looking over-produced. Searchable related phrases include Birmingham, city, Victoria Square, protesters, banner, Russia Is a Terrorist State, Ukrainians, flags, war, invasion, centre, B1 1BD, plus wider ideas such as local identity, public realm, urban detail, social history, commercial change, everyday Britain, documentary photography and place-based storytelling. The composition gives designers scope for captions, page furniture, social media crops, report covers and article thumbnails, while the detailed captioning makes it more discoverable for searches.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R5PP30 - A Socialist Appeal communist recruitment poster is shown pasted to a dark public wall in Lancaster, Lancashire, using stark red, black and white typography and a graphic image of Karl Marx pointing directly at the viewer. The bold slogan reads Are you a Communist? followed by Then get organised, with a QR code and web address at the bottom. The poster is part of a wider Marxist recruitment campaign aimed at workers, young people and students, using direct confrontational language and a visual style reminiscent of early twentieth-century political and military recruitment posters. In a university city such as Lancaster, this kind of flyposting is especially associated with student politics, campus activism, youth campaigning and public debate around socialism, capitalism, class politics and the radical left. The image is useful for editorial themes including contemporary British politics, communist organising, Socialist Appeal, RCP-linked campaigning, Marxist activism, protest culture, political communication, urban flyposting, student recruitment, ideological messaging and radical political movements in northern England. The close crop makes the poster the dominant subject, while the rough, dark wall surface gives documentary texture and clearly places the message in a public street environment rather than a formal meeting or indoor campaign setting. The bright daylight and clean visibility suggest a clear daytime street photograph, with no weather detail strongly visible beyond even natural light. The design deliberately reduces the message to a simple question and call to action, creating a high-impact political advert for passers-by. This is an editorial documentary photograph of a political poster in public space, recording visible campaign material and street-level political messaging in Lancaster, rather than an endorsement of the organisation, ideology or slogan shown. It may be relevant to news, education and feature uses covering student activism.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PGAYM7 - There has been a building on our site since the 1300s although the first mention of the Kings itself is not until 1639. The Georgian frontage was added in 1753 although the size of the building was reduced in the 1890s when a decline in trade resulted in part of the front being turned into a shop. It wasn't until 1936 that the Kings left private ownership and was bought by the Friary Brewery of Guildford which later became part of Allied Breweries.
We've had a few famous guests over the years including Tsar Peter the Great (who left without paying his bill!) as well as some European royalty who met here in 1814 to discuss post war Europe after the Battle of Trafalgar. Tsar Peter the Great's visit is commemorated by a plaque on the front of the building which was unveiled in 1998 by the Russian Ambassador to commemorate the tricentenary of the visit.

Its most popular products included Polident denture cleanser, Poli-Grip denture adhesive, Dentu-Creme denture toothpaste, Nytol sleeping pill, Tegrin medicated shampoo for psoriasis, Lava hand soaps (acquired from Procter & Gamble), Beano and Phazyme anti-gas products, Balmex diaper rash ointments, and Sensodyne desensitizing toothpaste.
GlaxoSmithKline purchased the company for $1.24 billion in 2001.
The company was founded in 1907 by Alexander Block, a Russian immigrant who had a small drugstore on Fulton Street in Brooklyn, New York. He turned the company into a wholesaler in 1915, then became a drug manufacturer in 1925, acquiring a 50 percent interest in Wernet's Dental Manufacturing Company.
Block Drug moved its headquarters to Jersey City, New Jersey in 1938.
Although Alexander Block built the company largely through acquisitions, he developed the Polident brand internally during the 1930s. In 1948, Block Drug rolled out the Ammi-i-Dent tooth powder, and in the early 1950s, the company developed Nytol. After Alexander Block's death in 1953, his son Leonard N. Block (19112005) took over, eventually becoming the company's chairman. The last major new product the company introduced was Tegrin, in 1964.
Although Block Drug was a public company from 1971 until 2001, it operated much like a private, family-run firm, with the Block family holding all voting shares plus 54 percent of the non-voting stock. In addition, the company never held annual meetings or issued proxy statements
Leonard N. Block died in 2005 at age 93 after suffering for years from Alzheimer's disease. Block's nephew John P. Roberts was the producer of the Woodstock Festival using money from his Block inheritance.

Chaika 3050 Kvarzevi rezonator (which roughly means Quartz Oscillator in Russian), usually abbreviated as the Chaika 3050-KR. The lack of information about this watch and this movement hasn't allowed me to write a detailed history of the watch, but at least we have more or less a good view about the genesis of the movement and what were its characteristics, that represented a new era for the Soviet watch industry, but also the beginning of its gradual decline
What makes the Chaika 3050-KR so special is that it was the first quartz watch ever made in the Soviet Union
3050-KR, even though it was regularly available in the catalogs, had an almost limited distribution, especially the first generation. The only ones lucky enough to own it were those who were part of the Nomenklatura, and therefore had the right to buy it at half its original price.
The watch was distributed mainly in the domestic market under the Chaika brand and was exported (mainly in the countries of the communist bloc) also with the Raketa one, at slightly lower prices, but still prohibitive for the ordinary citizen, and with a different case and dial. The same movement was also used by Slava and Poljot itself.
The stepping motor was also produced in Moscow, but not in the Poljot factory, but in the Slava one, which made the production process rather complicated: Poljot made the whole movement except for the stepping motor. Then, the movement was sent to the 2MWF to mount the stepping motor. Then, the movement, devoid of its electronic part, was sent to the Chaika factory in Uglich, waiting for the assembly of the electronic part. The printed circuit board, including the oscillator, was manufactured in the Integral plant in Minsk, Belarus, (in case of a saturation of the plant, the circuit was also produced in the Transistor factory), the same plant where the Elektronika B6-02 and the Elektron

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PG60Y2 - There has been a building on our site since the 1300s although the first mention of the Kings itself is not until 1639.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JTK73J - Poljot (literally meaning flight), is a brand of Soviet/Russian wristwatches, produced since 1964 by the First Moscow Watch Factory (Russian: Первый Московский Часовой Завод, ПМЧЗ, Perviy Moskovskiy Chasovoy Zavod). The flagship brand of the USSR's watch industry, Poljot produced numerous historical watches used in many important space missions, including the world's first space watch worn by Yuri Gagarin.
Founded in 1930 under orders from Joseph Stalin, the First State Watch Factory was the first large scale Soviet watch and mechanical movement manufacturer. Via its USA-based trading company Amtorg, the Soviet government bought the defunct Ansonia Clock Company of Brooklyn, New York in 1929, and the Dueber-Hampden Watch Company of Canton, Ohio. As part of the Soviet's first five-year plan, twenty-eight freight cars worth of machinery and parts were moved from the USA to Moscow

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F0G705 - This documentary stock photograph shows DDR East German security equipment for spying on citizens in Berlin. The image records DDR or East German security equipment and surveillance material, making it useful for editorial features on Cold War memory, state surveillance, the Stasi, civil liberties, museum interpretation and authoritarian control. Berlin is a city where ordinary street details often carry heavy layers of history, from Prussian and imperial architecture to the Weimar period, Nazi rule, wartime destruction, division, the DDR, reunification, tourism, gentrification and contemporary creative culture. The caption and visible subject detail provide a specific point of entry into that wider story rather than a generic German city view. Buyers could use the photograph for articles about Berlin travel, Cold War memory, street art, museum interpretation, urban nightlife, river sightseeing, architecture, souvenir culture, public transport, pedestrian design or the way history is repackaged in modern tourism. Search-friendly composite terms include Berlin Mitte street art, DDR surveillance display, Berlin Fernsehturm skyline, River Spree pleasure boat, Ampelmann crossing light, Berliner Dom interior, Berlin urban culture and German capital tourism. If the subject is graffiti, it can illustrate the city as a living wall of political humour, youth culture, commercial branding and layered paste-ups. If it is heritage or church architecture, it can support more formal travel, culture, history and education uses. If it is a boat, toy or street sign, it gives editors an accessible human-scale route into a large city story. The documentary style keeps the image credible for web, magazine, guidebook, education, museum, travel, urban policy, politics, design, consumer and social commentary use. Its strength for Alamy search is the mix of precise caption wording and broader Berlin themes, allowing it to be found for both narrow subject searches and.
