Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JRMW22 - Marmalade is a fruit preserve made from the juice and peel of citrus fruits boiled with sugar and water. The well-known version is made from bitter orange. It is also made from lemons, limes, grapefruits, mandarins, sweet oranges, bergamots, and other citrus fruits, or a combination. Citrus is the most typical choice of fruit for marmalade, though historically the term has often been used for non-citrus preserves.
The preferred citrus fruit for marmalade production is the Spanish Seville or bitter orange, Citrus aurantium var. aurantium, prized for its high pectin content, which sets readily to the thick consistency expected of marmalade. The peel imparts a bitter taste.
The word marmalade is borrowed from the Portuguese marmelada, from marmelo 'quince'.
Unlike jam, a large quantity of water is added to the fruit in a marmalade, the extra liquid being set by the high pectin content of the fruit. In this respect it is like a jelly, but whereas the fruit pulp and peel is strained out of a jelly to give it its characteristic clarity, it is retained in a marmalade
Paddington Bear is known for his liking of marmalade, particularly in sandwiches, and kept it in his briefcase wherever he went

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K16AW8 - Camden Collective is a registered charity offering free hot-desking space and subsidised offices for creative start-ups in the heart of Camden Town. We take on temporary leases of empty building and bring them back to life, filling them with an ever-growing community of creative young people. We give start-ups the chance to take risks, experiment, and grow in a low-cost way.
The Collective journey started 10 years ago. Since 2009, it has occupied 18 spaces and has introduced various projects, such as: pop-up shops, free courses, accelerators, commissioning public realm projects, free events, and the Camden Create Festival. We have an evolving model, but our community of like-minded individuals are at the heart of what we do, as well as the entrepreneurs and stakeholders who help us to grow and support our next exciting stages of development.
Camden Collective is run by Camden Town Unlimited, the Business Improvement District for Camden Town. In the past, we relied on grants and raising revenue to keep up our activities. Now we're fully self-sufficient, with income from lockable offices paying for free hot-desking, running costs of the project, and any renovations needed to maintain our hub, or create new ones
Camden Collective is just one of Camden Town Unlimited's forward-thinking projects. We're the same team that's behind the Camden Highline
a project transforming the disused railway between Camden Town and King's Cross, and Euston Town
a business improvement district with a focus on air quality, transport and identity. We're also the co-founders of Alternative Camden
a new type of innovation district for Camden.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RG992J - The UK homeless charity Shelter put the 2017 figure for the whole of the UK's homeless at 300,000. Recorded deaths among rough sleepers and those in temporary accommodation more than doubled in the five years to 2018. Homeless people die much younger than the general population, research by the Office for National Statistics shows. Homeless men die on average aged 44 while homeless women die on average aged 42. Homeless deaths have been rising stradily in the five years to 2018. Suicide, drug and alcohol abuse are the most common causes of death among homeless people. Jon Sparkes of Crisis urged the government to put causes of homelessness right, like building the number of social homes we need and making sure our welfare system is there to support people when they fall on hard times. The charity, Crisis attributes rising homelessness to a shortage of social housing, housing benefits not covering private rents and there not being homeless prevention schemes for people leaving care. Crisis wants the government to change polixy.
Crisis estimates there are roughly 12,300 rough sleepers in the UK and also 12,000 people sleeping in sheds, bins, cars, tents and night busses. The figure is derived from research by Heriot-Watt University. Rough sleeping has risen by 98% since 2010, sleeping in tents and the like rose 103%. In England rough sleeping rose by 120%, in Wales it rose by 75% and in Scotland it fell by 5%. Scotland has more inclusive homelessness laws, since 2012 guaranteeing a right to settled accommodation for all homeless people, including young single men, while England only houses those in priority need, like families with dependent children. Jon Sparkes of Crisis said, Christmas should be a time of joy, but for thousands of people sleeping rough, in tents or on public transport it will be anything but. While most of the country will be celebrating and enjoying a family meal, those who are homeless will face a struggle just to stay safe and escape the c

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy H3TPDP - Police have revealed that two people found dead in a Chinatown warehouse devastated by a fire were men - as they continue to appeal for witnesses to the blaze.
Officers are appealing to members of Manchester's homeless community who may have been in the Nicholas Street building to come forward.
It is understood the two men were rough sleepers. They have not yet been identified.
A joint investigation has been launched by police and fire chiefs to establish the cause of the blaze.
One theory is that a fire may have been started in the building by homeless people trying to keep warm.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy ED9ERH - Tweed is a rough, woollen fabric, of a soft, open, flexible texture, resembling cheviot or homespun, but more closely woven. It is usually woven with a plain weave, twill or herringbone structure. Colour effects in the yarn may be obtained by mixing dyed wool before it is spun.
Tweeds are an icon of traditional Scottish, Irish, Welsh and English clothing, being desirable for informal outerwear, due to the material being moisture-resistant and durable. Tweeds are made to withstand harsh climates and are commonly worn for outdoor activities such as shooting and hunting, in England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. In Ireland, tweed manufacturing is now most associated with County Donegal but originally covered the whole country. In Scotland, tweed manufacturing is most associated with the Isle of Harris in the Hebrides.
The original name of the cloth was tweel, Scots for twill, the material being woven in a twilled rather than a plain pattern. A traditional story has the name coming about almost by chance. Around 1831, a London merchant, James Locke, received a letter from a Hawick firm, Wm. Watson & Sons, Dangerfield Mills about some tweels. The merchant misinterpreted the handwriting, understanding it to be a trade-name taken from the River Tweed that flows through the Scottish Borders textile area. The goods were subsequently advertised as Tweed and the name has remained since

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RBF07B - Money and Art, ATM at East 7th Street, East Village, Manhattan, New York, NY, USA gives a direct editorial record of a recognisable subject, with location, signage, architecture or everyday behaviour carrying much of the meaning. An ATM in Manhattan's East Village turned into or surrounded by art links money, street culture and neighbourhood identity in a city where cash machines are part of the visual clutter of commerce. The subject can illustrate urban art, financial access, gentrification, consumer culture, New York street life, cash use and the way everyday infrastructure becomes part of a creative streetscape. The location detail, New York, Manhattan, strengthens searches for regional features, travel pages, local-history pieces and news use where a named place matters. For buyers, the strength lies in the combination of a named subject, a lived-in setting and enough visual specificity to carry stories about how places are used, remembered, funded, visited or contested.
