The Harrogate Bus Company operates both local and regional bus services in North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, England. It is a subsidiary of Transdev Blazefield
In July 2016, the company was again rebranded, now operating as The Harrogate Bus Company. To coincide with this, a huge fleet upgrade was undertaken, which included the introduction of the current two-tone red livery, as well as a refurbishment of the company's route 1 branded single-deck Wright Eclipse Urban bodied Volvo B7RLE vehicles to set the new standard specification of free WiFi, USB charging capabilities and audio/visual next stop information. Other Wright Eclipse Urban vehicles were transferred from some of Transdev's other subsidiaries to replace the older Wright Renown bodied Volvo B10BLE single-decker vehicles which were branded for the route. 2016 also saw the launch of 14 new high-specification Wright Gemini 3 bodied Volvo B5TL double-deck vehicles on the route 36, replacing the older Wright Eclipse Gemini vehicles. The 36 also received its own new brand “ Riding Redefined “ as well as a new two-tone red and black livery. In July 2017, a new brand was introduced for the route 770/771, which saw the services become renumbered alongside the new brand name known as Superior 70/71. A fleet of Wright Eclipse Urban 2 bodied Volvo B7RLE single-deck vehicles were transferred from Transdev's operations in Burnley and refurbished to equip them with WiFi, USB charging capabilities and audio/visual next stop information. The new fleet entered service on the route on 23 July, eventually replacing the entire fleet of Volvo B10BLE Wright Renown vehicles, which then left the fleet in 2018. In April 2018, due to the loss of council funding for the 70 to Connexionsbuses, the 71 was again renumbered and rebranded, now known as Simple 7.
In partnership with DalesBus, the service between Harrogate and Skipton was reintroduced in May 2021

This was one of 16 TDD64's, known as the Dominion, which entered service in 1951 and were type TDD64/1, the only ones constructed. Fleet number is 1250 and carries registration number JVU 755. Crossley were relatively late coming into trolleybus manufacture. They had been the major supplier of motor buses to Manchester Corporation and it was only after Manchester announced their intention to convert some tram routes to trolleybus operation that Crossley took up trolleybus production from 1936. The first Manchester vehicles were delivered for the commencement of trolleybus operation in 1938.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M0MBAH - Westminster Abbey, formally titled the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter at Westminster, is a large, mainly Gothic abbey church in the City of Westminster, London, England, just to the west of the Palace of Westminster. It is one of the United Kingdom's most notable religious buildings and a burial site for English and, later, British monarchs. Since the coronation of William the Conqueror in 1066, all coronations of English and British monarchs have occurred in Westminster Abbey. Sixteen royal weddings have occurred at the abbey since 1100
The church was originally part of a Catholic Benedictine abbey, which was dissolved in 1539. It then served as the cathedral of the Diocese of Westminster until 1550, then as a second cathedral of the Diocese of London until 1556. The abbey was restored to the Benedictines by Mary I in 1556, then in 1559 made a royal peculiar”a church responsible directly to the sovereign”by Elizabeth I.
The abbey's two western towers were built between 1722 and 1745 by Nicholas Hawksmoor, constructed from Portland stone to an early example of a Gothic Revival design. Purbeck marble was used for the walls and the floors,
Further rebuilding and restoration occurred in the 19th century under Sir George Gilbert Scott. A narthex (a portico or entrance hall) for the west front was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in the mid-20th century but was not built
On 11 June 1914, a bomb planted by suffragettes of the Women's Social and Political Union exploded inside the abbey
On 17 September 2010, Pope Benedict XVI became the first pope to set foot in the abbey, and on 29 April 2011, the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton took place.
The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Galleries were created in the medieval triforium. This is a display area for the abbey's treasures in the galleries high up around the nave. A new Gothic access tower with lift was designed by the abbey architect and Surveyor of the Fabric, Ptolemy Dean.

Fifty-three is the 16th prime number. It is also an Eisenstein prime, and a Sophie Germain prime. The sum of the first 53 primes is 5830, which is divisible by 53, a property shared by few other numbers.
Fifty-Three is the atomic number of the useful halide iodine, also the racing number of Herbie, a Volkswagen Beetle with a mind of his own, first appearing in the 1969 Walt Disney Film film, The Love Bug. For direct calls to Cuba, the code is +53.
The 53 bus is one that I often travelled on, getting me from Belle Vue, to my first job in Higher Openshaw, Manchester. Bernard Manning described the 53 as the longest bus route in the world, connecting 'Africa with Jerusalem'. That would be due to the route taking in Moss Side and finishing in Cheetham Hill and Prestwich, old home of Manchester's orthodox Jewish community.
Manning was born in the Ancoats district of Manchester, Lancashire. Often reviled as a racist comedian, he had Russian Jewish ancestry on his father's side, as well as roots in Ireland, and was brought up a 'strict Catholic'. He named his house in Alkrington, Greater Manchester, 'Shalom', the Hebrew word for 'peace.'
Manning owned the Embassy club in Harpurhey, Manchester and performed mostly there from the 1980's. I remember one Friday night there with a group from work, after a wormy salad at the Barnaby Rudge. A good work mate from Moss Side was with us and got hassle from Manning for a lot of the night. If we did it again, we would have gone to Pips instead.

The average human menstrual cycle is 28 days although no link has been established with the night lighting and the Moon. In the code for international direct dial phone calls, +28 is unassigned, which is a little spooky.
In Jewish tradition there is a 28 year solar cycle in which the sun returns to its place in Creation every 28 solar years. This is commemorated in April every 28 years with the recitation of Birkat Hachama, the blessing of the sun. In neo-Nazi circles, twenty-eight indicates Blood and Honour (28 = BH - B - second letter of the alphabet and H - the eight letter).
The 28 bus goes from Leigh Bus Station via Culcheth, Birchwood &
Padgate to Warrington. Don't get on the 28A if you want to go via Birchwood, but its 5 minutes faster (yay!).

Rock &
Roll - 'Ian Dury' - Play this track here.
\u00bfWhats this iPod Shuffle set all about? Read about it here
Up there in my all time top 20 this old Stiff records track. I still have an orange vinyl BUY17 in my loft with 'Razzle In My Pocket' on the B-Side. Only two members of Ian Dury and the Blockheads appear on the record, the song's co-writer and guitarist Chas Jankel and saxophonist Davey Payne. Dury started out in the early 70's in pub rock band, Kilburn &
The high Roads
Released as it was in the height of the popularity of punk rock, the song was misinterpreted (as it is often is to this day) as a song about excess as its title and chorus would suggest. Although the single was banned by the BBC, a number of Radio 1 disc jockeys, including Annie Nightingale and John Peel, continued to promote the record by playing the mildly salacious B-side 'Razzle In My Pocket'.
Dury himself, however maintained that the song was not a punk anthem and said he was trying to suggest that there was more to life than a 9-to-5 existence (such as in his track-by-track comments in the sleeve-notes of Repertoire Record's Reasons To Be Cheerful: The Best Of Ian Dury &
The Blockheads compilation). The verses themselves are at times somewhat riddle-like, although always suggestive of an alternative lifestyle:
Here's a little bit of advice, you're quite welcome, it is free
Don\u2019t do nothing that is cut-price, you'll know what they'll make you be
They will try their tricky device, trap you with the ordinary
Get your teeth into a small slice, the cake of liberty.
Stiff Records organised a joint tour on a train, for Nick Lowe, Ian Dury, Wreckless Eric, Larry Wallis and Elvis Costello, five of their biggest acts at the time with the intentions of having the bands alternating as the headlining act. Ian Dury and the newly formed Blockheads soon became the stars of the tour, which cost far more than expected, almost bankrupting Stiff.
For a good intro to the late great Ian Dury, checkout the 'New Boots &
Panty's first album. I have a cherished gold vinyl pressing that has virtually had the groves worn out of it.

Route 98 was introduced on 18 July 1992 to replace route 8 between Willesden Bus Garage and Oxford Circus.
The 98 has always been operated by Metroline, based at the Willesden garage. It was initially operated using Routemasters on Mondays to Saturdays in the daytime and Dennis Darts, Metrobuses and Leyland Titans on Sundays and late evenings.
In early 2004, the 98 was one of the many routes in London that were converted from Routemasters to low-floor vehicles.
The 98 also has night service N98 that follows the route from Holborn to Willesden and continues via Kingsbury, Queensbury and Neasden to Stanmore Station.

Twice a day he empties this one, a vital link with the world. Even in these days of the internet, the people of the islands rely on Alistair and his colleagues to provide the last part of the journey.
In many rural locations, particularly in Scotland postbuses are used to carry passengers and Mull is no exception. A post bus here runs between Salen and Burg. Annually over 50,000 passengers are carried over a couple of services a day. Have a look at www.postbus.royalmail.com for more details.
