Designed by architect Andrew Heiton of Perth, Scotland, it is a decorated Gothic building, with a spire 180 feet (54.9 m) high. The church was erected in 1864 with funding from Alexander Findlater (1797?1873), a Dublin merchant and philanthropist, and is known colloquially as Findlater's church, and it is referred to in two of James Joyce's novels as Findlater's Church.
The Church was built on the north eastern corner of Rutland (now Parnell) Square and North Frederick Street. It was built on the site of Headfort House (sometimes Bective House), which was owned by the Earl of Bective (also the Marquess of Headfort), and named after his family's County Meath estate at Headfort House. The Earl had moved from a house of the same name in Smithfield which had by that time become an unfashionable district.
One of the first preachers was John Hall (1829?1898).
The congregation had previously, from 1667 until 1864, worshipped on Capel Street, on the site of the old St. Mary's Abbey. It was founded by a preacher from Bull Alley, the Rev. William Jacque, who left along with some of its congregation to form the new church. The Capel Street Congregation was sometimes incorrectly referred to as the Scots Church, and confused with the Scots Presbyterian Church, Lower Abbey Street. In 1778 during Rev. McDowell's ministry, the congregation renamed itself Mary's Abbey Congregation (whence the Abbey Presbyterian Church gets its name).
In 1911 Abbey Church, along with other Presbyterian churches, The Scots Church, Ormond Quay church and Union Chapel, founded Lindsay Road National School.
In 1918 the Union Chapel, on Lower Abbey Street, whose chapel had been damaged during the 1916 Rising, joined the Abbey Presbyterian Church

The first part of the urban network was opened in 1977 by merging separate rail lines by constructing new tunnels under Liverpool city centre and Birkenhead. The full 1970s plans for the network were not realised, but the network has been extended on its peripheries with additional peripheral extensions proposed. The extensions were created by electrifying existing lines and then transferring the electrified sections into Merseyrail.
Merseyrail is operated for Merseytravel by 50:50 joint venture Serco-Abellio, who superseded Arriva Trains Merseyside in 2003. The 25-year contract expires in 2028, with the aspiration of the Liverpool City Region government being to bring the network and its infrastructure under local public ownership. As of 2015, Serco-Abellio operates a fleet of 59 trains and employs 1,148 people

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PK2AXB - St Elphin's Church is the parish church of the town of Warrington, Cheshire, England. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Liverpool, the archdeaconry of Warrington and the deanery of Warrington.
A place of worship has been present on the site since about 650 AD, and the presence of a priest in Warrington was recorded in the Domesday Book. According to tradition the first church was built by Saint Oswald for his companion Elphin, who remained as the first priest there until his death in 679. The earliest fabric in the present church is in the chancel and the crypt, which survive from the church built in 1354 by Sir William Boteler. The church was badly damaged by the Parliamentary forces in the Civil War. Following this the tower was rebuilt in 1696 and the nave in 1770. The south aisle was added in the early 19th century. Most of the fabric of the present church is the result of an extensive restoration between 1859 and 1867 by Frederick and Horace Francis. It was during this restoration that the spire was added. The bells were recast in 1698 and again in 1884. In 1950 they were recast again and the clock was replaced
Within the church, St Ann's Chapel was founded by Thomas Massey, rector of Warrington from 1448 to 1464.
It continued to belong to the Massey family until they died out in 1748. The chapel was then acquired by the Patten family who built a vault to bury members of the family, the last being Lord Winmarleigh in 1892. The Lady Chapel was founded and endowed by Sir John Boteler in 1290. He and other family members were buried in the chapel. In 1943 it became the chapel of the South Lancashire Regiment and in 1976 the chapel of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment.

When philanthropist and businessman William Thomas Sims willed ?1,000 to the town to provide an illuminated clock in 1917 he made a proviso.
If the Stroud Urban District Council did not want the clock, the money would go : ...unto the trustees of Gloucestershire Royal Infirmary at Gloucester for the purpose of endowing a bed therein and otherwise for the benefit of the institution.
The wealthy Mr Sims also left ?2,000 to be invested into a trust fund which would provide Christmas dinners for Stroud's poor.
Though Mr Sims died on June 29, 1917 at the age of 79 the clock was not finished for almost four years.
The Stroud Journal recorded the completion of the 'imposing' structure in February, 1921
It is generally admitted that the tower is a very handsome addition to the architecture of the town, it reads.
The clock is meeting a long felt want in the town.
In the late 19th century William Sims owned a grocery, wine and spirit merchants in the High Street in the building which is now the TSB bank.
A fact that the obituaries curiously neglect to mention is that he also ran a lower class of Victorian off-licence, the ale and porter store, in Russell Street as a side line.
He was a widower and his only child died well before Mr Sims himself so he was left with no close family to whom he could pass on his possessions and considerable fortune.
During his life he was an active member of the community and something of a civic leader, signing up for duties with many worthy causes.
A councillor on two separate councils and member of the town's Board of Guardians, the Local Board of Health and Painswick School Board he certainly kept himself busy and was well known as a nonconformist Liberal and protector of the poor.
He retired around the turn of the century and left Stroud to live out his days as a country gent somewhere in the Forest of Dean.

It is one of the original stations of the Metropolitan Railway (MR), the world's first underground railway, opened on 10 January 1863.

Baker Street station is the combination of three separate stations, with several booking offices throughout its operational years. Major changes took place in 1891-93 and 1910?12. The first part is the Circle Line station, which has its two platforms now used by the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines. They are situated on a roughly east-to-west alignment beneath Marylebone Road, spanning approximately the stretch between Upper Baker Street and Allsop Place. This was part of the original Metropolitan Railway from Bishop's Road (now Paddington (Circle and Hammersmith & City lines) station to Farringdon Street (now Farringdon) which opened on 10 January 1863.
The platforms serving the main branch of the Metropolitan line towards Harrow, Uxbridge and beyond are located within the triangle formed by Marylebone Road, Upper Baker Street and Allsop Place, following the alignment of Allsop place. This station is the second section which opened on 13 April 1868 by the Metropolitan & St. John's Wood Railway. This was later absorbed by the Metropolitan Railway, which is usually known to them as Baker Street East station.

Today's Moor Street station is a combination of the original station, opened in 1909 by the Great Western Railway as a terminus for local trains, and a newer Moor Street station with through platforms, a short distance from the original, which opened in 1987, replacing the original. The two were combined into one station in 2002, when the original was reopened and restored, and the newer station rebuilt in matching style.
Moor Street has become more important in recent years
two of the original terminus platforms were reopened in 2010, and the station is now the terminus of many Chiltern Railways services from London Marylebone, as well as being an important stop for local services on the Snow Hill Lines. It is now the second busiest railway station in Birmingham.

The medieval structure, which was located at the west end of the Luckenbooths on the High Street in the Old Town, was first established in the 14th century by royal charter. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DCE754 - Unique' is a much overworked word when it comes to describing pubs. But that's exactly what the Black Friar is. There's nothing else anywhere remotely like its fabulous decorative scheme, either in style or content. On a sharply triangular site opposite Blackfriars station, the pub was built in 1871-2, but what makes it so special is a remodelling from about 1905 by the then publican, Alfred Pettitt, and his architect H. Fuller-Clark. Fuller-Clark trained at the Lambeth School of Art and began practice in 1893. His artist was Henry Poole R.A., and both men were committed to the Arts & Crafts Movement which embraced a love of high-quality materials, hand craftsmanship, and often a very free, original approach to design.
Before entering the pub there is much to admire on the exterior. There is a deep mosaic fascia carrying the words Saloon / 174 / The Black Friar / 174 / Brandies on New Bridge Street side. A grand segmental arched entrance on the far left is surmounted by stone carved figures and above it a colourful mosaic of two monks fishing. The exterior lobby itself has walls and ceiling of marble. All along the exterior (well illuminated at night) are beautiful copper signs most featuring one or two friars such as a ?Worthington Ales in Bottle'

and a couple of ?Saloon Bar' signs, one of which bears a couple of friars pointing you towards the saloon and helpfully tells you it is 9 yards away. Above the corner door (no longer in use) is a ?174' in mosaic

Throughout the pub are friars ? or at least jolly, modern reinvented versions of them ? they appear everywhere in sculptures, mosaics and metal reliefs.

It was first published as the Belfast Evening Telegraph on 1 September 1870 by brothers William and George Baird. Its first edition cost half a penny and ran to four pages covering the Franco-Prussian war and local news.
The evening edition of the newspaper was originally called the Sixth Late, and Sixth Late Tele was a familiar cry made by vendors in Belfast City Centre in the past.
Its competitors are The News Letter and The Irish News but the local editions of the London-based red tops are also competitors, selling at a cheaper price than the 'Tele'.
The Belfast Telegraph was entirely broadsheet until 19 February 2005, when the Saturday morning edition was introduced and all Saturday editions were converted to compact. The weekday morning Compact Edition, launched on 22 March 2005, struggled to replicate the evening newspaper's success. Its editorial content has been much more tabloid, with a greater entertainment story count than the evening paper. Much prominence is given to English-based sport, and some general features and columns are shared with The Independent and Irish Independent.
The paper now publishes two editions daily, Belfast Telegraph final edition and the North West Telegraph which is distributed in Derry.
