Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RFEPXP - The exterior of a UK Government office building in Central Square, Cardiff, featuring large bilingual signage reading Llywodraeth y DU and UK Government. The use of Welsh alongside English reflects statutory bilingual requirements for central government operations in Wales and highlights the visibility of the Welsh language within official public life.
The building forms part of Cardiff's Central Square redevelopment, a major urban regeneration project that has brought together transport infrastructure, government offices and commercial development adjacent to Cardiff Central railway station. The glass-fronted design and open public forecourt reflect contemporary approaches to civic architecture, emphasising accessibility, transparency and modern working environments for civil servants.
Photographed in daylight with people entering and leaving the building, the image documents everyday government activity in the Welsh capital. It is suitable for editorial use relating to public administration, bilingualism, devolution, modern government workplaces, and urban regeneration in Wales.

OPENING an asylum centre at a Warrington hotel without consulting residents was 'simply not acceptable'.
Warrington South MP Andy Carter raised his concerns in the House of Commons on Monday afternoon during an urgent debate on the migrant crisis.
He was among a large number of MPs grilling immigration minister Robert Jenrick on the fall out of the problems at the Manston Migrant Centre in Kent.
Thousands of migrants have been placed in temporary accomodation since then to relieve the pressure Parliament was told.
Mr Carter said on Thursday he was notified by the Home Office that the Fir Grove hotel in his Warrington South constituency would 'become an asylum centre the following day' and said no talks were held with the council.
He added: It's in the middle of a residential area, less than 200 yards from a primary school.
I'm sure (Mr Jenrick) would agree with me that it's simply not acceptable for the Home Office to steamroll ahead on a decision like this without the necessary consultation with local residents.
After Conservative former minister Paul Maynard raised concerns about the use of a hotel in his Blackpool North and Cleveleys constituency, Mr Jenrick said: I appreciate that Blackpool is one of those areas that has borne a disproportionate burden from this issue for a long time.
So if there is a way we can ensure that individuals are dispersed from Blackpool more swiftly than other parts of the country, then I'd be happy to look into that.
Mr Jenrick added 'deterrence' has to be part of the UK's approach, suggesting good-quality hotels could act as a 'pull factor' for people thinking of crossing the Channel.
The population at the Manston Migrant Processing Centre is back below 1,600 with 'over 2,300 people being placed in onward accommodation', Mr Jenrick said.

An angry Warrington South MP Andy Carter says he is going to raise the Home Office decision to allow asylum seekers at the Fir Grove Hotel at Grappenhall in parliament in the coming week.
Mr Carter yesterday held a number of meetings to understand the legal options available to Warrington Borough Council, which also opposes the decision.
He said: I held a number of meetings yesterday to understand the legal options available to the Council in terms of challenging decisions taken by the owners of the hotel and to gain more information from the Home Office and their plans for this site.
In discussions with Home Office officials, I have been advised that the cohort planned for accommodation this site will be families with children. Prior to arriving in Warrington the refugees will have been processed at centres elsewhere. The hotel has 54 rooms and a maximum occupancy of 79 guests in total.
The advice received from Kings Counsel was that an immediate legal challenge to this decision to use this site for Asylum Seekers would be unlikely to succeed, not least due the incredibly short timescales before the asylum seekers arrive in Warrington and the location of the owners of the site. Other local authorities are however pursuing legal routes related to planning legislation and a change of use requirements, which I am monitoring.

'Rome Wasn't Built in a Day' is a song by an English group Morcheeba released in 2000 as the first single off their third studio album Fragments of Freedom. The song is the group's biggest hit in the United Kingdom, where it peaked at number 34 in 2000. The song reached number two in New Zealand.
At some point in the mid-1990s, the Godfrey brothers (DJ Paul Godfrey and multi-instrumentalist Ross Godfrey) recruited Skye Edwards as vocalist, during a chance meeting at a party in which both brothers were introduced to Edwards. This led to the formation of Morcheeba.
The band's debut album, Who Can You Trust? was released on China Records in April 1996 and fitted smoothly into the then-modish trip hop genre, with instrumentation based predominantly around Rhodes piano, electric guitar and DJ scratching, with the songs carried by Edwards' relaxed soul-styled vocals.
The follow-up, 1998's Big Calm, moved slightly away from trip-hop towards a more pop-oriented, song-based sound. This was exemplified by the band's remaking of 'Moog Island' (a song from the previous album) in a more summery, upbeat style, with the new title of 'The Music That We Hear'. One of the album's singles, 'The Sea', became a hit and a radio favourite. The album proved to be a big seller and ensured Morcheeba's success as a breakthrough act.
In 1998, Morcheeba collaborated with Hubert Laws to record for the Red Hot Organization's compilation album Red Hot + Rhapsody, a tribute to George Gershwin, which raised money for various charities devoted to increasing AIDS awareness and fighting the disease.
In 2000, Morcheeba released their third album, Fragments of Freedom. This repeated the sales success of Big Calm but received a less positive critical response. The band's fourth album, Charango, was released in 2002, and spawned several singles including 'Otherwise,' 'Way Beyond,' and 'Undress Me Now'. In an indication of what would follow, several tracks on the album did not feature Edwards, and were instead written with and sung by Lambchop's Kurt Wagner or by emcees Pace Won and Slick Rick.
Rome wasn't built in a day is a way of saying 'It takes a long time to create something complicated or impressive'. No-one can argue with the impressiveness of Rome or how complicated it can be to cross the road in town. Its one of my favourite cities.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2BEW1FR - A signalman or signaller is an employee of a railway transport network who operates the points and signals from a signal box in order to control the movement of trains.
Contents
The first signalmen, originally called Railway Policemen (leading to the nickname of 'Bobby'), were employed in the early 19th century and used flags to communicate with each other and train drivers, and hourglasses for the purpose of Time Interval Working between stations.
Additional duties
It was a signalman's duty to check each train that passed their signal box, looking for the red tail lamp exhibited on the trailing vehicle, the sighting of which confirmed that the train was still complete, and thus the section was clear.
Each train movement was logged, by hand, in a Train Register Book, and it was normal practice to provide a special desk to support this sizeable book. As well as train movements, every communication between signalmen and adjacent signal boxes via bell codes (when accepting trains or dealing with a token) was logged.
Technological advances including mechanical fixed signals in the 1840s, the electric telegraph and block working in the 1850s, and proper mechanical interlocking from 1856, allowed safer, more expeditious train working, and more complicated track layouts to be controlled single-handedly. The advent of such technological advances gradually led to the provision of an enclosed workspace known as a signal box, signal cabin or interlocking tower.
The principles of British-style railway signalling have changed little since the Victorian era and early 20th century. Modern technology has generally reduced the labour required per train movement. In many cases, a switch, button or computer command is used to alter the lie of points and control signals. Although many classic mechanical signal boxes remain in use, these are gradually being replaced by modern power signalling systems on most railways. The heartlands of British-style railway signalling could be said

A track to enjoy with a drink in your hand or a bar of quality chocolate, this one.
The word 'morcheeba' is meant to indicate 'the way of cannabis'. This originated from 'MOR'(middle of the road) plus 'Cheeba' (informal name of cannabis).
Morcheeba mix pop, hip-hop, rock and electronica and are based in the UK. They have consisted of Paul &
Ross Godfrey, Skye Edwards and recently Daisy Martey, among many guests. Their debut album 'Who Can You Trust?' on China Records was released in April 1996.
This track comes from 'Big Calm' the second album which was more mainstream and pop-ey.
This is the best album to start with Morcheeba, if you check it out, tell 'em I sent you :-)

New York based DJ Andy Butler (assisted by Kim Ann Foxman) is behind 'Hercules &
Love Affair'. This single 'Blind' featuring guest Antony Hegarty (lead vocalist in Antony &
The Johnsons) and was released March 2008.
Andrew Butler, began his musical career at 15, DJing in a Denver leather bar run by a hostess called Chocolate Thunder Pussy. He then moved to Brooklyn, in order to attend Sarah Lawrence College. According to Butler: 'I’ve been writing songs since childhood. I made music for dance performances in college (where he studied under Corky St. Clair), like a remake of Gino Soccio’s ‘Runaway’ done in the style of Kraftwerk.
I am so glad thats cleared up then!
A new album is apparently immenent, which explains why I have been playing this track recently.
Almost made me go out and buy a triangle, that lead out.

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) was founded by Thomas Rhodes Armitage, a successful doctor who suffered from eyesight problems.
In 1868 Dr Armitage founded an organisation known as the British and Foreign Society for Improving Embossed Literature for the Blind. This later became the British and Foreign Blind Association. In 1875 Her Majesty Queen Victoria became the organisation's first patron.
The organisation received a Royal Charter in 1948, and changed its name to Royal National Institute for the Blind in 1953. RNIB's vision is of a world in which blind and partially sighted people enjoy the same rights, freedom, responsibilities and quality of life as people who are fully sighted.

What a difference five days make eh?
A lot of people mistakenly regard the Liberals as the new kids on the block these days, while in reality at core they were the old guard with the Tories back in the late victorian era. When the left wing Labour party arrived, quite soon ping pong between Tory and Labour administrations have ensued.
While many councils are liberal led, however the first past the post system is an unfortunate barrier to seeing a majority liberal party prime minister at Westminster. One which the two main parties may be reluctant to dismantle if a hung parliament results tonight and Nick Clegg assumes his role as 'Kingmaker'.

He has had his face fungus now for well over 20 years. On one occasion when he had it shaved off at the barbers he was so unrecognisable that his next door neighbour thought he was a burgler, who had climbed into the back garden! He was simply unrecognisable!
Bob does alsorts around the centre which has now grown into quite a multi-faceted complex. There is even a working Brewery making traditionally crafted cask ales on the site. Yep I do have a nose for that kind of stuff!
In the course of history, men with facial hair have been ascribed various attributes such as wisdom and knowledge, sexual virility, masculinity, or high social status
and, conversely, filthiness, crudeness, or an eccentric disposition. In many cultures, beards are associated with nature and outdoorsmen. I remember in my mis-spent youth enjoying the band ZZ Top, strangely the only member of the band without a beard is in fact called Frank Beard (credited as Rube Beard on early LP's). However it must be said that he did in fact sport some facial hair, generally only a trimmed mustache.
In 1984, the Gillette Company (one of the worlds largest razor manufacturers) reportedly offered Gibbons and Hill (the bearded members of ZZ Top) $1 million each to shave their beards for a television commercial. They allegedly declined, saying 'We're too ugly without 'em'. Apparently the name came from blues guitar master B. B. King. The band had planned to call themselves ZZ. King, but felt it was too similar. Since B.B. King was at the 'top', they settled on ZZ Top.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4562669870 - 'Here is Kev, fastest milkman in the (Cheshire) West (and Chester).
Rarer than the proverbial rocking horse exhaust, the British milkman is becoming an endangered species. I fear the WWF (that’s the wildlife lot, not Hulk Hogans lot obviously!) will be listing Kev and his colleagues quite soon!
Originally, milk needed to be delivered to houses daily since poor refrigeration meant it would quickly spoil. The spread of the humble fridge and the aggressive discounting of supermarkets now mean that we tend to buy milk with the weekly shop and often in long lasting UHT form. Milk delivery also incurs a small cost on the price of dairy products that is increasingly difficult to justify. It also leaves delivered milk in a position where it is often prone to theft.
Kev here is in his electric milk float. Because of the relatively small power output from its electric motor, a milk float travels fairly slowly, usually around 10 to 16 miles per hour, although legend has it that some have been chipped to do up to 80 mph Operators. They are very quiet, suiting operations in residential areas during the early hours of the morning or during the night when diary products can be stealthily delivered.
In August 1967 the UK Electric Vehicle Association stated that Britain had more battery-electric vehicles on its roads than the rest of the world put together. On closer inspection these were in fact milk floats. Quite often their enormous batteries are charged all night in order to do a few hours of deliveries the following morning.
So, from an age when we were asked 'Are you getting enough (milk that is)?', we had 'Confessions of a milkman' and 1960's milk bars, Anthony Burgess his droogs and the Korova, our dominance of electric transport is also ebbing away.
Think on next time you reach for a couple of bricks of UHT in the Tesco Express.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4527546693 - 'These are the sunday helpers who feed the congregation at a hut rear of the church yard. There is a veritable Easter themed feast. I stumbled upon one of the ladies by chance and she kindly let me see the food spread.
The Collegiate Church of St Nicholas Buccleuch, formerly known as Dalkeith Parish Church, stands on the High Street. Dedicated to St Nicholas, this medieval church became a collegiate establishment in 1406, founded by Sir James Douglas. The nave and transepts date from 1854, when the inside of the church was greatly altered. The chancel was abandoned in 1590, walled off from the rest of the church, and is now ruinous. Sir James Douglas, 1st Earl of Morton, and his wife Joanna, daughter of James I, are buried in the choir and have stone effigies. St Nicholas Buccleuch Church remains one of the two Church of Scotland parish churches in Dalkeith.
The ladies had prepared some Hot Cross Buns. These have a chequered history. These are traditionally eaten hot or toasted on Good Friday, with the cross standing as a symbol of The Crucifixion. They are believed by some to pre-date Christianity, although the first recorded use of the term 'hot cross bun' is not until 1733.
Legend has it that buns marked with a cross were eaten by Saxons in honour of the goddess Eostre (the cross is thought to have symbolised the four quarters of the moon). 'Eostre' is probably the origin of the name 'Easter' too
According to cookery writer Elizabeth David, Protestant English monarchs saw the buns as a dangerous hold-over of Catholic belief in England, being baked from the dough used in making the communion wafer. Protestant England attempted to ban the sale of the buns by bakers but they were too popular, and instead Elizabeth I passed a law permitting bakeries to sell them, but only at Easter and Christmas.
Unfortunately I did not have time to sample any of these delights.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4521907330 - 'Its that busy time of the year, perhaps more so than Christmas.
According to Christian scripture, Jesus was resurrected from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. Some Christians celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day or Easter Sunday. For the Father here this can often be combined with the sacrament of confirmation with oil, so a very hectic few days of great spiritual significance.
Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. A quite complex formula is used to work out when it falls based on the first Sunday after the full moon (the Paschal Full Moon) following the northern hemisphere's vernal equinox. Ecclesiastically, the equinox is reckoned to be on March 21 (regardless of the astronomically correct date), and the 'Full Moon' is not necessarily the astronomically correct date. The date of Easter therefore varies between March 22 and April 25 each year.
Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover by much of its symbolism, as well as by its position in the calendar. This reminds us that these religions (as well as Islam) is linked by common texts and traditions. There is more to link these three faiths than is commonly dug up to divide them.
Peace to you and your family, whatever your belief this Easter.

It makes a refreshing change to visit a real butcher, rather than the pre-packaged and shrink wrapped conveyor belt plastic meat from the supermarket, although in In English, the name Lyulph is a variant of Lyulf: A compound of the Old English words for flame and wolf.
He was named after Arthur Lyulph Stanley who was a relative of his father and Liberal elected MP for the mainly rural parliamentary constituancy of Eddisbury. Arthur awarded KCMG (14 September 1875 – 22 August 1931), also 5th Baron Stanley of Alderley and 4th Baron Eddisbury, was an English nobleman and Governor of Victoria from 1914 to 1920. Thus a suitable role model to name your child after I guess. The name Lyulph has origins in Scandinavia.
The butcher shop in Cuddington has a long history and in the 1930's there was a fatality when a butcher's boy, Les Watson (brother of Joan Underwood) was involved in a collision with a mail van while riding his delivery bicycle on Swan Hill.
If you would like to visit the shop for excellent local meat, excellent homemade pies and sausages etc, it is at 18 Warrington Road, give them a call on 01606 883162 for opening hours.

Usually containing only strong tobacco, the traditional waterpipe has many names in the near east: Hukkah, shisha, nargeeleh, nargile, nargilen or argeelah.
The pipe appears to have originated in India. Initially in the court of the Mughal emperor Akbar (around 1542 ). Following the European introduction of tobacco to India, Hakim Abul Fateh Gilani a descendant of Abdul Qadir Al-Gilani came from Baghdad to India who was later a physician in the court of Mughal raised concerns after smoking tobacco became popular among Indian noblemen, and subsequently envisaged a system which allowed smoke to be passed through water in order to be 'purified'.
This new pipe for smoking soon became a status symbol for the Indian aristocracy and gentry. These days the Hookah west of Cyprus and east of Thailand is ubiquitous.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 3711866769 - 'A bit about her from her Bio: In 2001, a friend introduced her to drummer Dave Heyes, who had recently finished a stint of gigs with Elvis Costello. After attending one of Maria’s gigs, Heyes quickly became a fixture in her band. In 2005, Maria came across producer John Kettle (Tansads/High Holy Days/The Marble Index). Together, they recorded a three-song demo. “Once I was in the studio and heard the magic of my music coming to life, I knew that this was where things were going to change forever,” Maria says. Within a few months, Maria had five major record labels and publishers interested. She set up a showcase in London and traveled there with the band.
“The sound was bigger and better than ever before. From there I got a fantastic reaction from the labels who wanted to hear more.” In the summer of 2006 Maria and Dave established the indie label JTC Records, and they released the single “Love Of My Life” which went on to receive national airplay. Soon after this Maria returned to the studio to record her debut album “Landslide”.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy TRN0YP - An Aberdeen street art festival has been given a national award following a public poll.
Over four days in April, international artists gathered to brighten up the city by creating large public murals for Nuart.
Business organisation Aberdeen Inspired played a large role in developing the festival, and has now been commended at the 2017 National Business Improvement District (BID) Awards for this.
Following an online vote by members of the public and deliberation by an expert panel, it was awarded the Place Management award over five other BIDs from across the UK.
The win marks the fourth award Nuart Aberdeen has won, including helping the city toward its European BID of the Year victory in July.
Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: We're absolutely delighted that Nuart Aberdeen has been recognised with another national award against strong competition from across the UK.
The festival was very successful and sparked a huge amount of interest in the city with large crowds coming to the centre to see the street art throughout the year. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy D8HF2D - Pulmicort Asthma Inhaler with box with braille markings, held by a user of this medication.
What Is Pulmicort?
Pulmicort is an inhaled steroid used to control asthma symptoms. Pulmicort, along with other inhaled steroids like Flovent, is considered first-line treatment when you need more than occasional use of a rescue inhaler for your asthma. Pulmicort can be prescribed by itself or combined with a long-acting beta agonist to prevent asthma symptoms such as:
Wheezing
Chest tightness
Shortness of breath
Chronic cough
How Does Pulmicort Work?
Pulmicort reduces inflammation in the lungs and decreases airway hyper-responsiveness. By acting directly in the lungs, your airways are also less likely to respond to an asthma trigger.
Additionally, Pulmicort's benefits result from its action on a number of different cell types involved in the pathophysiology of asthma:
Basophils
Eosinophils
Lymphocytes
Macrophages
Mast Cells
Neutrophils
The decreased inflammation, mucus production, and hyperreponsiveness leads to a decrease in your asthma symptoms. Unlike your rescue inhaler, Pulmicort controls chronic asthma symptoms and should be taken daily in order to be effective.
How Is Pulmicort Prescribed?
Pulmicort is prescribed in 2 different forms. Pulmicort Respules are an inhalation suspension delivered via a special nebulizer and are available in several different strengths. Pulmicort is also available via a dry inhaled powder that is similar to a metered dose inhaler. Generally, you will take Pulmicort daily no matter how well your asthma symptoms are controlled. If your asthma control is excellent, talk with your doctor about considering a decrease in your medication.
The active component in Pulmicort, budesonide, is also in Symbicort, combination asthma inhaler, and in Rhinocort, a nasal spray for allergies. .
