Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3ENT4CY - Close-up editorial image of an iPhone displaying digital tickets for the 2026 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit, with separate Saturday 4 July and Sunday 5 July passes visible on screen. The smartphone rests on Union Jack patterned fabric, reinforcing the British setting and the national identity of one of Formula 1's best-known races. The image is suitable for illustrating mobile ticketing, sporting-event access, electronic admission, ticket wallets, QR-code entry systems and the increasing shift from printed passes to app-based credentials.
The photograph also provides a clear visual concept for reporting on ticket fraud, unauthorised resale, fake listings, social-media scams and the risks faced by motorsport supporters buying expensive Grand Prix admission from unofficial sources. Silverstone's published 2026 ticket conditions state that tickets are not to be resold except through an official Silverstone resale platform, making verification of the seller and purchase channel particularly important. Buyers should be cautious of screenshots, duplicated digital passes, pressure to pay quickly, unusually cheap offers and claims that transferable mobile tickets can be supplied outside authorised channels.
The official event runs from Thursday 2 July to Sunday 5 July 2026, while Formula 1 lists the competitive race weekend from Friday 3 July to Sunday 5 July. Saturday includes sprint and qualifying activity, and the main British Grand Prix takes place on Sunday 5 July. This midsummer sporting image can support news, consumer protection, travel, technology and motorsport coverage, including stories about ticket touts, dynamic demand, sold-out events, digital identity, smartphone dependence and safe online purchasing. No outdoor sky or weather is visible because the composition is a tight indoor-style close-up focused on the phone screen and ticket information.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RX17T4 - Flatulence is the expulsion of gas from the intestines via the anus, commonly referred to as farting. Flatus is the medical word for gas generated in the stomach or bowels. A proportion of intestinal gas may be swallowed environmental air, and hence flatus is not entirely generated in the stomach or bowels. The scientific study of this area of medicine is termed flatology.
Flatus is brought to the rectum and pressurized by muscles in the intestines. It is normal to pass flatus (to fart), though volume and frequency vary greatly among individuals. It is also normal for intestinal gas to have a feculent or unpleasant odor, which may be intense. The noise commonly associated with flatulence is produced by the anus and buttocks, which act together in a manner similar to that of an embouchure. Both the sound and odor are sources of embarrassment, annoyance or amusement (flatulence humor). In many societies, flatus is a taboo. Thus, many people either let their flatus out quietly or even hold it completely. However, holding the gases inside is not healthy.
There are several general symptoms related to intestinal gas: pain, bloating and abdominal distension, excessive flatus volume, excessive flatus odor, and gas incontinence. Furthermore, eructation (colloquially known as burping) is sometimes included under the topic of flatulence. When excessive or malodorous, flatus can be a sign of a health disorder, such as irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease or lactose intolerance

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RDF3PP - Henley Royal Regatta (or Henley Regatta, its original name pre-dating Royal patronage) is a rowing event held annually on the River Thames by the town of Henley-on-Thames, England. It was established on 26 March 1839. It differs from the three other regattas rowed over approximately the same course, Henley Women's Regatta, Henley Masters Regatta, and Henley Town and Visitors' Regatta, each of which is an entirely separate event.
The regatta lasts for six days (Tuesday to Sunday) ending on the first weekend in July. Races are head-to-head knock out competitions, raced over a course of 1 mile 550 yards (2,112 m). The regatta regularly attracts international crews to race. The most prestigious event at the regatta is the Grand Challenge Cup for Men's Eights, which has been awarded since the regatta was first staged.
As the regatta pre-dates any national or international rowing organisation, it has its own rules and organisation, although it is recognised by both British Rowing (the governing body of rowing in England and Wales) and FISA (the International Federation of Rowing Associations). The regatta is organised by a self-perpetuating body of Stewards, who are largely former rowers themselves. One exception to this rule is that the Mayor of Henley-on Thames Council is an ex-officio Steward. Pierre de Coubertin modelled elements of the organisation of the International Olympic Committee on the Henley Stewards.
The regatta is regarded as part of the English social season. As with other events in the season, certain enclosures at the regatta have strict dress codes
The qualifying races take the form of a timed processional race up the regatta course, with the fastest crews qualifying. Times are released for non-qualifying crews only. This does not stop an enthusiastic band of unofficial timers with synchronised watches working out how fast their first round opposition might be.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PFAAP8 - In electrical safety testing, portable appliance testing (PAT, PAT inspection or PAT testing) is a process in the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia by which electrical appliances are routinely checked for safety. The formal term for the process is in-service inspection & testing of electrical equipment. Testing involves a visual inspection of the equipment and any flexible cables for good condition, and also where required, verification of earthing (grounding) continuity, and a test of the soundness of insulation between the current carrying parts, and any exposed metal that may be touched. The formal limits for pass/fail of these electrical tests vary somewhat depending on the category of equipment being tested.
British law (the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989) requires that all electrical systems (including electrical appliances) are maintained (so far it is reasonably and practicable) to prevent danger. Private houses are not covered by this legislation, although occupiers' liability requires householders not to deliberately expose occupants or visitors to unreasonable risks. The HSE and the local authority are responsible for the policing of this legislation.
Fixed wiring in buildings
Guidance from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET, published under the IEE brand) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recommends that a competent person must inspect the installation regularly in any public building or a place that people work. They suggest initial intervals for combined inspection and testing that range from three months (for construction equipment) to one year, and in many cases, longer periods for re-testing (certain types of appliance in schools, hotels, offices and shops)
Carrying out PAT
This can be done by hiring an external company to test all the electrical products in a business (someone who has had some PAT training, either by an official qualification or by attending a health and safety course

A cracking track from 1988's 'That Petrol Emotion'. They formed in 1984 from the ashes of the Derry Hitmakers, Bam Bam and the Calling and The Undertones. It was formed by guitarist John O'Neill and second guitarist Raymond Gorman who DJ'd together at the Derry 'Left Bank' club. Drummer and friend Ciaran McLaughlin joined next after having relocated from Derry to London, followed by John's brother and Undertones lead guitarist Damian O'Neill who played bass from 1985 until 1988 upon John's departure.
That Petrol Emotion themselves were also far more political and outspoken than the Undertones. 'Abandon' released on Virgin Records in March 1990 in the UK reached no. 73 in the single charts.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4369329964 - 'This is a spot I have passed quite a few times and out of the corner of my eye spotted flowers or a marker of some sort. Today I thought I would stop and contemplate for a short while, maybe be thankful for my own existence. Good therapy once every so often, to bring us down to earth.
We often forget behind our car of air-bags, crumple zones etc. that we are still mortal, hurtling along as if the road was a motorway (although it is six miles distant) in a little four wheeled tin can. On a motorbike its even more perilous, no crumple zones, only your leathers and crash helmet to protect you.
Kevin Pickstock was a keen biker and only 40 when he died. He was from Rudheath, barely a mile up the road from the bend at the Hartford road junction of the A556 bypass. A June summers evening that changed the lives of all his family, his two sons and many friends. It was not the first accident or fatality here.
There are still no safety measures on the road here, no 30mph zone, no calming, no Gatso camera.
I certainly make the effort to take it just a bit slower, when I pass these flowers now.

The seats were graded by stalls, circle, upper circle and some could achieve a pass out. These tickets are a frozen moment of those days. A 9d (or 4.5p) saturday morning showing for kids, or a 1/9 stalls or a 2/- two shilling circle. Your choice. 2/- was two shilling, when there was twelve old english pence or d ie like 2d = two pence to a shilling. Also twenty shillings to a british pound.

and for a brief period Ulster Transport Railways (UTR), is the railway operator in Northern Ireland. NIR is a subsidiary of Translink, whose parent company is the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company (NITHCo), and is one of seven publicly owned train operators in the United Kingdom, the others being Direct Rail Services, Northern Trains, Transport for Wales Rail, Southeastern, LNER, and ScotRail. It has a common Board of Management with the other two companies in the group, Ulsterbus and Metro (formerly Citybus).
The rail network in Northern Ireland is not part of the National Rail network of Great Britain, nor does it use Standard Gauge, instead using Irish Gauge in common with the Republic of Ireland. Also, NIR is the only commercial non-heritage passenger operator in the United Kingdom to operate a vertical integration model, with responsibility of all aspects of the network including running trains, maintaining rolling stock and infrastructure, and pricing. Since the Single European Railway Directive 2012, the company has allowed open access operations by other rail operators, although no operator has started such a service. In 2019, NI Railways carried over 15 million passengers

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JTNA3R - THERE is good news for electric vehicle drivers in and around Warrington, as the council has announced free electric charging at its Time Square car park and Warrington West station.
The initiative, which has been confirmed for at least the next six months, will help to support those who are making the switch from petrol and diesel to electric.
There are currently 56 charging points at the Time Square car park “ one of the highest number of charging points in a single location in the country “ with another 12 charging points available at the new Warrington West station.
The move to offering free electric vehicle charging comes after the council's climate emergency declaration in June.
The plans to encourage electric vehicle travel also support the council's Air Quality Action Plan, which aims to reduce nitrogen dioxide levels within the main, busy traffic routes leading into and around the town.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, cabinet member for environment, who drives an electric car herself, said: It's great news that I'm able to announce free charging points for electric vehicle users here in Warrington. We're committed to doing all we can to help people become more environmentally-friendly in and around the borough - more at https://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/news/18243487.free-electric-vehicle-charging-points-warrington-west-time-square-car-parks/
