In many countries, the rewards are generally in the form of money but other gratuities such as food, drink or gifts may be given. Street performance is practiced all over the world and dates back to antiquity. People engaging in this practice are called street performers or buskers in the United Kingdom. Outside of New York, buskers is not a term generally used in American English.

In 1530 Henry VIII ordered the licensing of minstrels and players, fortune-tellers, pardoners and fencers, as well as beggars who could not work. In the United States under constitutional law and most European common law, the protection of artistic free speech extends to busking. In the U.S. and many countries, the designated places for free speech behaviour are the public parks, streets, sidewalks, thoroughfares and town squares or plazas

Bank and Post Office. 1902 above doorway, 1903 on fireplace. Thomas Worthington and Son. Ashlar, brick and slate roof. Four bays, three storeys with banking hall on ground floor and wings to the rear of bays 1 and 4. Ashlar ground floor with semi-circular headed doorway to bay 1 with coffered soffit and elaborate cartouche in place of a keystone. Raised lettering beside the archivolt reads FORMERLY CUNLIFFE BROOKS & CO. Bays 2 and 3 have 3-light window openings with stone mullions, semi-elliptical heads and keystones, and bay 4 is similar but houses the Post Office shop front. Above a stone cornice the upper storeys are recessed in the centre bays, have stone quoins and an eaves cornice. Bays 1 and 4 each have two cross-windows with architrave surround to each floor, and bays 2 and 3 have 2-storey canted bay-windows with mullion and transom windows. Between them is an elaborate heraldic cartouche with the words Finem respice inscribed below. Coped gables with kneelers and two ridge stacks with stone bands and cornices. Banking hall has good coffered ceiling, stone fireplace, glazed tiles, doors, ironmongery etc.

ECM's Integrated Crop Management System is a method of farming that balances the requirements of running a profitable business with environmental responsibility. It includes practices that avoid waste, enhance energy efficiency and minimise pollution.
By combining the best of modern technology with good farming practice, ECM provide a whole-farm, long-term strategy. It is not a quick fix that can be applied to one crop, or one field or one season. In 2007, the ninety British diplomatic missions that issued passports were consolidated into seven regional passport processing centres (RPPCs) based in Düsseldorf, Hong Kong, Madrid, Paris, Pretoria, Washington, D.C. and Wellington with an additional centre in Dublin.

The Identity and Passport Service was renamed HM Passport Office on 13 May 2013 in an effort to reflect the agency's departure from its association with the scrapped National Identity Register and ID cards. The government stated in the press release that The inclusion of 'Her Majesty's' in the title recognises that passports are the property of the Crown, bear the royal coat of arms and are issued under the royal prerogative.
HMPO's executive agency status was removed on 1 October 2014 and it became a division within the Home Office. Its board reports directly to the Home Office's executive management board

The six self-governing Australian colonies that formed the Commonwealth of Australia on 1 January 1901 operated their own postal service and issued their own stamps “ see articles on the systems on New South Wales (first stamps issued 1850), Victoria (1850), Tasmania (1853), Western Australia (1854), South Australia (1855) and Queensland (1860). Under section 51(v) of the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution 1900, postal, telegraphic, telephonic, and other like services became a Commonwealth responsibility.
The Commonwealth's Postmaster-General's Department became effective on 1 March 1901 (this agency would be disaggregated on 1 July 1975 in part into the Australian Postal Commission trading as Australia Post). All then-current colony stamps which continued on sale became de facto Commonwealth stamps. Some of these stamps continued to be used for some time following the introduction in 1913 of the Commonwealth's uniform postage stamp series. These stamps continued to be valid for postage until 14 February 1966 when the introduction of decimal currency made all stamps bearing the earlier currency invalid for use.
There have been many special issues. The first Christmas stamp appeared on 6 November 1957. In recent years, designs for the Christmas issue have alternated each year between the religious and the secular. From 1993, in October of every year, Australia Post has commemorated Stamp Collecting month with special issues, typically featuring topics that are of interest to children such as pets, native fauna and space. Commencing with the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, during the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, stamps featuring Australians who have won an Olympic gold medal are issued on the next postal business day after the achievement.

In the 1900's the North Bridge running between the New and Old Town's of Edinburgh was widened and as part of this expansion a 190 foot high tower was built, into which the Scotsman Newspaper moved their offices.
The building cost around £500,000 and after the rest of the North Bridge extension was completed teamed with the Carlton directly opposite, it formed a imposing entrance to the Old Town.
The direct access from Market Street to the building was an ideal distribution outlet for the papers to be packed directly onto the trains at Waverley Station straight from the printing house that took up the entire basement. Across the middle floors of the building which is now home to some of the Scotsman's most luxurious rooms and suites were originally used for the editorial offices. What is today a stunning 2 floor Penthouse suite complete with its own Sauna used to be the Pigeon lofts where the news was sent far and wide across Scotland.

It first opened its doors to the locals of Edinburgh for advertising in 1831 and what is today the North Bridge Brasserie was the original reception and trading rooms. With its stunning marble pillars and ornate balcony this room has witnessed much bartering and haggling over advertising costs. Today this stunningly majestic room is home to the Scotsman's Brasserie and bar offering a truly Scottish menu, imaginative cocktails and one of Edinburgh's largest collections of rare whiskeys.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4503896012 - 'Chris is the operations manager (M.Inst.ICCM to give him his proper title) at Northwich Town Council for cemetaries. He looks after the allocation of burial and cremation plots at Northwich and Rudheath in Cheshire. He is a great chap and I was inspired to have a little window into his job.
It is his job to catalog each interment and here he is looking at a ledger of burials from 1893 onwards. Documentation becomes sparse much before this. All of the records in Northwich are in fact paper records in ledgers like this, they have not yet been computerised or fully digitised. Often a usual day at his office is taken up at least in part by family tree enquiries and manual searches of the books of carefully hand written entries. The books are now getting quite worn and tired, some flaking and coming apart unfortunately.
I had quite a long interesting chat with Chris, who as you might expect had quite an enlightened view of death and burial. The British and indeed largly northern European view of it tend to keep it hidden. However it is the only one of two things we will all encounter in life, the second being tax.
Human burial practices are generally bourne from the human desire to demonstrate 'respect for the dead'. Also to prevent the possibilities of revenants harming the living.
Here are the main reasons for this-
Respect for the physical remains. If left lying on top of the ground, scavengers may eat the corpse, considered disrespectful to the deceased in many (but not all) cultures. In Tibet, Sky burials return the remains to the cycle of life and acknowledge the body as 'food,' a core tenet of some Buddhist practices. Parsi's in India expose the body to the air, birds, insects etc to be picked clean. This last one is not so far away from what ancient britons did when bones were picked clean then stored in communal chambers, as have been found in the Scotish hebrides and particularly on Mull.
Burial can be seen as an attempt to bring closure to the deceased's family and friends. Psychologists in some Western Judeo-Christian quarters, as well as the US funeral industry, claim that by interring a body away from plain view, the pain of losing a loved one can be lessened.
Many cultures believe in an afterlife. Burial is sometimes believed to be a necessary step for an individual to reach the afterlife.
Many religions prescribe a particular way to live, which includes customs relating to disposal of the dead.
He is seeing a rise in green / natural funerals. Bodies buried five to ten feet down in a wicker or biodegradable container, sometimes not even in a traditional cemetary setting. Cremation is becoming ever more popular too. Suffice to say, Chris and the job he does should be safe for sometime to come.
