Smith's Potato Crisps was formed by Frank Smith and Jim Viney in the United Kingdom after World War I. Smith had been a manager for a Smithfield wholesale grocery business which sold potato crisps from 1913. Deciding to make his own, Smith converted garages in Cricklewood, London into a crisp factory, selling to local businesses. By 1920 he had 12 full-time employees. Smith conceived the idea of selling unseasoned potato crisps with a small blue sachet of salt that could be sprinkled over them. In 1927, after buying Jim Viney's share of the business, the company expanded into a factory in Brentford, London. In 1929, Smiths had seven factories in the UK and the following year it was incorporated as a private limited company. In 1966, Smith's was purchased by the American food producer, General Mills. In 1988, RJR Nabisco was purchased in a leverage buyout by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co, and to reduce debt several business were sold to French conglomerate BSN, who quickly sold on Smith's and Walkers to PepsiCo in 1989.
At the time Walkers had a third of the crisp market in the United Kingdom, while Smith's had a third of the extruded snacks market, making them the market leader. Subsequently, Pepsico withdrew the brand, in favour of British brand Walkers, which was heavily marketed by PepsiCo in a campaign using former England international footballer turned television presenter Gary Lineker.

Role of Jobcentre Plus
Jobcentre Plus was an executive agency of the Department for Work and Pensions of the government of the United Kingdom between 2002 and 2011. The functions of Jobcentre Plus were subsequently provided directly through the Department for Work and Pensions. The agency provided services primarily to those attempting to find employment and to those requiring the issuing of a financial provision due to, in the first case, lack of employment, of an allowance to assist with the living costs and expenditure intrinsic to the effort to achieve employment, or in all other cases the provision of social-security benefit as the result of a person without an income from employment due to illness-incapacity including drug addiction. The organisation acted from within the government's agenda for community and social welfare. Services were provided in the first instance via in-house job-advisors and advisors contacted via telephony. An information technology system known as the Labour Market System (LMS) contained the personal details of job seekers and advertised job vacancies for employers within each of the public offices.
Between 2012 and 2018 a government website named Universal Jobmatch was used whereby jobseekers could search for employment and employers could upload and manage their own vacancies whilst searching for prospective employees.

The port lies at the mouth of the River Esk, where it enters into the North Sea. A port has been in existence at Whitby since at least the 7th century, when it was used to bring in supplies for Whitby Abbey. The port is famous for being the port of origin for the sailings of Captain Cook, and some of the ships that he sailed on were also built in the harbour.
Commercial cargo ceased in the late 20th century, however, the port is still an important location for the landing of fish.
Fish were being landed at Whitby during the time that the first abbey had been built in 657
The port was never equal to other ports in the area such as Hull or Middlesbrough. This is due to the hinterland that surrounded the port, with Whitby being largely cut-off from overland travel until the 18th and 19th centuries, it had no great industries to export or import for, being surrounded on all sides of the river by moorland (except for the coast to the north). Trade through the port accelerated with the coming of the railways, but its main function was either as a shelter for ships from storms in the North Sea, or as a re-supply point. Between 1702 and 1704, the number of collier ships alone totalled 98, Bridlington, Hull and Scarborough only hosted 48, 28 and 54 respectively. The safe haven almost guaranteed at Whitby (and at Scarborough and Bridlington too), allowed the port to charge a levy towards the upkeep of the harbour and piers. The levy also applied to passing trade of coal from many north-eastern locations, with the levy not being rescinded until 1861
A survey in the 1950s determined that the port at Whitby was not as successful as other neighbouring cargo ports such as Hull, Teesside and West Hartlepool, on account of its lack of urban sprawl, and the absence of warehouses on the dock side with which to store goods in a safe manner before onward export, or inward transportation.

flat felted roofs, pebble dash cladding ground floors and tile cladded first floors. Finnegans houses were equipped with warm air central heating which used gas as an energy source. The Finnegan side of the estate was known locally as the gas side'. In the late 1980s the local authority renovated the Finnegan system built houses, the works included re-enveloping the external building with traditional bricks and mortar. The works also added apex roofing complete with roofing tiles.
The second half of the Gamesley estate was built a couple of years later by George Wimpey using the Wimpey no-fines house building method. The houses were constructed with full pebble dash finish and tiled apex roofing. The houses built by George Wimpey had a solid concrete ground floor which had electrical underfloor heating installed, the first floors of these houses were built with no heating. Due to electricity being the main energy source for heating, the George Wimpey side of Gamesley became known locally as the electric side'.

They were later enlarged and given a second storey. William Dawes built the station's larger extension for the L&YR in 1909. It is at right-angles to the north end of the old station giving the enlarged station an L-shaped plan. Facing Victoria Station Approach, its façade is in the Edwardian neo-Baroque style, four storeys high and 31 bays to the rounded corner at the south-east end. The ground floor windows have rounded heads and those on the floors above are square. The ornate glass and iron canopy along the façade displays the names of destinations that the station served in Art Nouveau lettering. The canopy was damaged by the Provisional IRA's 1996 bomb placed in a street adjacent to the Arndale Centre and was restored four years later.
Heritage features in the concourse were restored during the 2013-15 renovation, they include the café with its glass dome and mosaic lettering which was originally the first-class dining room, the adjacent bookstall, and the original 1909 wood-panelled booking hall. In the entrance is a large, white glazed tiled map showing the former network of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway.
Underneath the map is a bronze World War I war memorial with effigies of Saint George and Saint Michael at each end which was installed in 1923. At the south end of the concourse is the 'soldier's gate' which opened to the former fish docks from where thousands of soldiers departed for World War I and where a bronze plaque was erected to commemorate them. The gateway was restored in 2015 and a steel screen inserted featuring a map of World War I Commonwealth grave cemeteries in Northern France and Belgium.

At the south end of the concourse is the 'soldier's gate' which opened to the former fish docks from where thousands of soldiers departed for World War I and where a bronze plaque was erected to commemorate them. The gateway was restored in 2015 and a steel screen inserted featuring a map of World War I Commonwealth grave cemeteries in Northern France and Belgium.

In 1911 the Salt Union built a vacuum evaporating plant at Runcorn to produce salt from brine. Steam was generated to drive turbo-alternators. The exhaust steam from the turbines was used to evaporate brine. Only a portion of this energy was used in the salt works
the Salt Union obtained parliamentary authority to provide a public supply of electricity. This was through two Electric Lighting Orders: the Runcorn Electric Lighting Order 1910 and the Widnes Electric Lighting Order 1910, both these Orders were authorised by Parliament under the Electric Lighting Orders Confirmation (No.1) Act 1910 (10 Edw. 7 & 1 Geo. 5, c. lxxv). A new company, the Mersey Power Company Limited, was formed in 1911 to operate the public electricity supply. Ashlar ground floor with semi-circular headed doorway to bay 1 with coffered soffit and elaborate cartouche in place of a keystone. Raised lettering beside the archivolt reads FORMERLY CUNLIFFE BROOKS & CO. Bays 2 and 3 have 3-light window openings with stone mullions, semi-elliptical heads and keystones, and bay 4 is similar but houses the Post Office shop front. Above a stone cornice the upper storeys are recessed in the centre bays, have stone quoins and an eaves cornice. Bays 1 and 4 each have two cross-windows with architrave surround to each floor, and bays 2 and 3 have 2-storey canted bay-windows with mullion and transom windows. Between them is an elaborate heraldic cartouche with the words Finem respice inscribed below. Coped gables with kneelers and two ridge stacks with stone bands and cornices. Banking hall has good coffered ceiling, stone fireplace, glazed tiles, doors, ironmongery etc.

ECM's Integrated Crop Management System is a method of farming that balances the requirements of running a profitable business with environmental responsibility. It includes practices that avoid waste, enhance energy efficiency and minimise pollution.
By combining the best of modern technology with good farming practice, ECM provide a whole-farm, long-term strategy. It is not a quick fix that can be applied to one crop, or one field or one season. Although primarily concerned with crop production, livestock management is equally important on mixed farms because livestock are consumers of crops and providers of organic nutrients.
ECM agronomists have vast experience of working in partnership with farmers to assess, monitor and plan all of their activities in an integrated way that both respects biodiversity and ensures profitability. Because our system involves the whole farm and is site-specific, there are no hard and fast rules about how we achieve this. Individual farms differ in many ways: location, climate, soil type and cropping pattern, to name a few. Even so, we have established general guidelines that can help all farmers and growers take practical steps to improve their management practices. These cover everything from use of fertilisers and crop protection products to the maintenance and enhancement of landscape features and wildlife habitats.
Whatever the farm, wherever it is located, planning, taking action and monitoring outcomes are the vital system processes.

New Dock was built in 1843 and was in service until 1990. The Royal Armouries Museum opened in 1996. New Dock was redeveloped as Clarence Dock, a £250 million mixed-use development between 2001 and 2007. The retail and leisure sector was launched on Saturday 11 October 2008 with fashion shows from celebrity fashion consultant and TV presenter Gok Wan. Leeds Dock now attracts around 1.5 million visitors a year although most of these are due to the proximity of the Royal Armouries Museum. On completion in April 2007, it became the eighth tallest building in Leeds but is now the twelfth tallest building.

The six self-governing Australian colonies that formed the Commonwealth of Australia on 1 January 1901 operated their own postal service and issued their own stamps see articles on the systems on New South Wales (first stamps issued 1850), Victoria (1850), Tasmania (1853), Western Australia (1854), South Australia (1855) and Queensland (1860). Under section 51(v) of the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution 1900, postal, telegraphic, telephonic, and other like services became a Commonwealth responsibility.
The Commonwealth's Postmaster-General's Department became effective on 1 March 1901 (this agency would be disaggregated on 1 July 1975 in part into the Australian Postal Commission trading as Australia Post). All then-current colony stamps which continued on sale became de facto Commonwealth stamps. Some of these stamps continued to be used for some time following the introduction in 1913 of the Commonwealth's uniform postage stamp series. These stamps continued to be valid for postage until 14 February 1966 when the introduction of decimal currency made all stamps bearing the earlier currency invalid for use.
There have been many special issues. The first Christmas stamp appeared on 6 November 1957. In recent years, designs for the Christmas issue have alternated each year between the religious and the secular. From 1993, in October of every year, Australia Post has commemorated Stamp Collecting month with special issues, typically featuring topics that are of interest to children such as pets, native fauna and space. Commencing with the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, during the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, stamps featuring Australians who have won an Olympic gold medal are issued on the next postal business day after the achievement.

He looks after the allocation of burial and cremation plots at Northwich and Rudheath in Cheshire. He is a great chap and I was inspired to have a little window into his job.
It is his job to catalog each interment and here he is looking at a ledger of burials from 1893 onwards. Documentation becomes sparse much before this. All of the records in Northwich are in fact paper records in ledgers like this, they have not yet been computerised or fully digitised. Often a usual day at his office is taken up at least in part by family tree enquiries and manual searches of the books of carefully hand written entries. The books are now getting quite worn and tired, some flaking and coming apart unfortunately.
I had quite a long interesting chat with Chris, who as you might expect had quite an enlightened view of death and burial. The British and indeed largly northern European view of it tend to keep it hidden. However it is the only one of two things we will all encounter in life, the second being tax.
Human burial practices are generally bourne from the human desire to demonstrate 'respect for the dead'. Also to prevent the possibilities of revenants harming the living.
Here are the main reasons for this-
Respect for the physical remains. If left lying on top of the ground, scavengers may eat the corpse, considered disrespectful to the deceased in many (but not all) cultures. In Tibet, Sky burials return the remains to the cycle of life and acknowledge the body as 'food,' a core tenet of some Buddhist practices. Parsi's in India expose the body to the air, birds, insects etc to be picked clean. This last one is not so far away from what ancient britons did when bones were picked clean then stored in communal chambers, as have been found in the Scotish hebrides and particularly on Mull.
Burial can be seen as an attempt to bring closure to the deceased's family and friends. Psychologists in some Western Judeo-Christian quarters, as well as the US funeral industry, claim that by interring a body away from plain view, the pain of losing a loved one can be lessened.
Many cultures believe in an afterlife. Burial is sometimes believed to be a necessary step for an individual to reach the afterlife.
Many religions prescribe a particular way to live, which includes customs relating to disposal of the dead.
He is seeing a rise in green / natural funerals. Bodies buried five to ten feet down in a wicker or biodegradable container, sometimes not even in a traditional cemetary setting. Cremation is becoming ever more popular too. Suffice to say, Chris and the job he does should be safe for sometime to come.
