Ulster-Scots: BBC Norlin Airlan) is a division of the BBC and the main public broadcaster in Northern Ireland. It is widely available across both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
BBC Northern Ireland is one of the four BBC national regions, together with the BBC English Regions, BBC Scotland and BBC Cymru Wales. Based at Broadcasting House, Belfast, it provides television, radio, online and interactive television content. BBC Northern Ireland currently employs 700 people, largely in Belfast.
BBC Northern Ireland has two TV channels - BBC One Northern Ireland, BBC Two Northern Ireland
and two radio stations - BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Radio Foyle.
BBC Northern Ireland operates two television stations: BBC One Northern Ireland and BBC Two Northern Ireland. BBC Northern Ireland funds an opt-out service with the majority of this output made in the independent sector. Some output that originates in London (so-called 'network' programmes) are time-shifted to create appropriate slots for programming that is more appealing to the BBC audience in NI.
Prior to 27 October 2006, BBC Two NI was a digital only service while BBC Two Northern Ireland was available on analogue transmission. Since 28 October 2006, BBC Two Northern Ireland has been the on-air name for both services which have been merged.
BBC Northern Ireland has its own team of continuity announcers which introduce the vast majority of programmes on BBC One and BBC Two in Northern Ireland.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HDEYME - The Europa Hotel is a four-star hotel in Great Victoria Street, Belfast, Northern Ireland. It has hosted presidents, prime ministers and celebrities.
It is known as the most bombed hotel in Europe and the most bombed hotel in the world after having suffered 36 bomb attacks during the Troubles.
The hotel, designed by architects Sydney Kaye, Eric Firkin & Partners, opened in July 1971. It was built on the site of the former Great Northern Railway station and stands 51 metres high.
During The Troubles, the hotel, where most journalists covering the Troubles stayed, was known as Europe's most bombed hotel, earning the name the Hardboard Hotel. The hotel was blown up by the Provisional IRA in 1993 and damaged so badly that it sold for only £4.4m.
The Europa Hotel became part of the Hastings Hotels group on 3 August 1993, whereupon it was announced that it would close for the first time in its 22-year history to allow for major refurbishment. Following an £8m investment, the hotel reopened in February 1994. Its first official event was the Flax Trust Ball, a gala evening for 500 local and international dignitaries. President Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton stayed in the hotel in November 1995
the suite used by the Clintons was subsequently renamed the Clinton Suite. The presidential entourage booked 110 rooms at the hotel.
Started in early 2008, an extension to the hotel increased the height of a rear wing by seven floors, to twelve floors, and increased bedrooms from 240 to 272. The extension was designed by Robinson McIlwaine Architects and was completed late in 2008

The tourist attraction buses travel near major landmarks, while a prerecorded or live commentary in multiple languages is provided through small headphones to passengers. Guinness is one of the most successful beer brands worldwide. It is brewed in almost 50 countries and is available in over 120. A feature of the product is the burnt flavour that is derived from roasted unmalted barley, although this is a relatively modern development, not becoming part of the grist until the mid-20th century. Although the Guinness palate still features a characteristic tang, the company has refused to confirm whether this type of blending still occurs. Lanyon took as his source the medieval great halls of
England and the Oxbridge colleges, following the strict precedents of
the raised dais, oriel window, fireplace for the top table, and a
screened passage at the opposite end. These plans fell victim to the
original budget cuts
Lanyon's planned gallery was never built and
the panelling remained modest, the latter not helped by later
redecorations. All of this changed in 2000 with the restoration of the
Great Hall by Consarc Conservation, architects. The floor and dais
were replaced and the oriel window unblocked. New pitch pine
panelling and a screened passage with a gallery above, the
replacement of the missing end trusses, and the comprehensive
redecoration and installation of a new lighting system, have all
combined to create a warm, powerful and theatrical space at the
heart of the University. More recently, the restored organ from
Christchurch (where Sir Charles and Lady Lanyon used to worship)
has been installed in the gallery.

The university was chartered in 1845, and opened in 1849 as Queen's College, Belfast, but has roots going back to 1810 and the Royal Belfast Academical Institution.
The university forms the focal point of the Queen's Quarter area of the city, one of Belfast's four cultural districts. It offers academic degrees at various levels and across a broad subject range, with over 300 degree programmes available. Lanyon took as his source the medieval great halls of
England and the Oxbridge colleges, following the strict precedents of
the raised dais, oriel window, fireplace for the top table, and a
screened passage at the opposite end. These plans fell victim to the
original budget cuts
Lanyon's planned gallery was never built and
the panelling remained modest, the latter not helped by later
redecorations. All of this changed in 2000 with the restoration of the
Great Hall by Consarc Conservation, architects. The floor and dais
were replaced and the oriel window unblocked. New pitch pine
panelling and a screened passage with a gallery above, the
replacement of the missing end trusses, and the comprehensive
redecoration and installation of a new lighting system, have all
combined to create a warm, powerful and theatrical space at the
heart of the University. More recently, the restored organ from
Christchurch (where Sir Charles and Lady Lanyon used to worship)
has been installed in the gallery.

Belfast and Derry contain arguably the most famous political murals in Europe. It is believed that almost 2,000 murals have been documented since the 1970s. In 2014, the book, The Belfast Mural Guide estimated that, in Belfast, there were approximately 300 quality murals on display, with many more in varying degrees of age and decay. Murals commemorate, communicate and display aspects of culture and history. The themes of murals often reflect what is important to a particular community. A mural therefore exists to express an idea or message and could generally be seen as reflecting values held dear to that community.
In Irish republican areas the themes of murals can range from the 1981 Irish hunger strike, with particular emphasis on strike leader Bobby Sands
murals of international solidarity with revolutionary groups are equally common, as are those which highlight a particular issue, for example the Ballymurphy Massacre or the McGurk's Bar bombing. In working class unionist communities, murals are used to promote Ulster loyalist paramilitary groups such as the Ulster Defence Association and Ulster Volunteer Force and commemorate their deceased members. It is unusual in serving two separate dioceses (Connor and Down and Dromore), yet being the seat of neither (it is geographically in the Diocese of Connor), it is therefore not a cathedral in the truest sense of the word, a cathedral being a church housing the seat of a bishop.[1] It is, however, titled as such. It is the focal point of the Cathedral Quarter, Belfast.
The first architect was Sir Thomas Drew, the foundation stone being laid on 6 September 1899 by the Countess of Shaftesbury. The old parish church of St Anne by Francis Hiorne of 1776 had continued in use, up until 31 December 1903, while the new cathedral was constructed around it
the old church was then demolished. The Good Samaritan window, to be seen in the sanctuary, is the only feature of the old church to be retained in the cathedral. Initially, only the nave of the cathedral was built, and this was consecrated on 2 June 1904.
In 1924 it was decided to build the west front of the cathedral as a memorial to the Ulstermen and women who had served and died in World War I. The foundation stone for this was laid by Governor of Northern Ireland, the Duke of Abercorn on 2 June 1925 and the completed facade, to an amended design by the architect Sir Charles Archibald Nicholson, was dedicated in June 1927.
In the meantime, the central crossing, in which the choir sits, was built between 1922 and 1924. The Baptistery, to plans drawn up by the late W H Lynn, who had assisted Sir Thomas Drew, was dedicated in 1928, and the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, with its beautiful mosaics depicting Saint Patrick, was dedicated on 5 July 1932, the 1500th anniversary of the arrival of St Patrick in Ireland.

The Housing Executive was established in 1971 by the Housing Executive Act (Northern Ireland).
The creation of the Housing Executive is linked to the civil disturbances in Northern Ireland throughout the 1960s.[citation needed] Prior to 1971, the allocation of public housing was the responsibility of local councils in Northern Ireland and the Northern Ireland Housing Trust. In June 1968, Dungannon Rural District Council was accused of discriminating against a Catholic family when it allocated a new council house in the Caledon area to a young single Protestant woman with links to a local Unionist politician. This incident proved to be the catalyst for the ensuing civil rights marches in Dungannon and Derry that ultimately led to widespread civil disturbance.
In his Parliamentary report on the following disturbances, Lord Cameron concluded that there was:
A rising sense of continuing injustice and grievance among large sections of the Catholic population in Northern Ireland, in particular in Derry and Dungannon, in respect of (i) inadequacy of housing provision by certain local authorities (ii) unfair methods of allocation of houses built and let by such authorities, in particular
refusals and omissions to adopt a 'points' system in determining priorities and making allocations (iii) misuse in certain cases of discretionary powers of allocation of houses in order to perpetuate Unionist control of the local authority.

Although there was a decision taken to move to a new location the General Assembly, in 2005, voted to overturn the decision. Since the refurbishment, in 1992, Church House is now open for functions as a commercial conference centre.
The building is located near the centre of Belfast at the junction of Fisherwick Place, Great Victoria Street, Howard Street and Grosvenor Road. It was built in 1905, in the Gothic style, and opened by the Duke of Argyll. Church House is dominated by a 40m high clock tower, which contains Belfast's only peal of 12 bells.
Church House is home to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. The Assembly Hall is oval shaped with gallery, it can seat 1,300 people. The hall is illuminated by a glass skylight, which is now illuminated artificially.

With new friends moving in its always difficult decorating a new place. Dave prefers more conservative celestrial blue while Nickolas has more a leaning for a yellow golden fern. Its looking like whatever happens it will take at least three coats of magnolia to paint over Gordons old choice of Fire cracker red. when we are finished blue and yellow will mix into a nice deep green. Probably a fitting reminder that Britain elected its first green MP in Brighton only last week.
