Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EGWJP0 - Close-up detail of the word Hi-Fidelity on a vintage-style jukebox, photographed with warm orange and red reflections across glossy black trim and striped retro lettering. The image focuses tightly on the decorative typography rather than the full machine, making it a flexible stock photograph for stories about recorded music, vinyl culture, jukebox design, retro interiors, nostalgia, bars, diners, pubs, cafés, music venues and twentieth-century popular culture. The phrase hi-fidelity, more commonly written high fidelity or hi-fi, refers to sound reproduction intended to be clearer, richer and more accurate than ordinary playback, a term strongly associated with post-war home audio, record players, stereo systems, jukeboxes and the golden age of analogue listening. The image can illustrate the romance of choosing songs from a jukebox, the tactile appeal of physical music technology, the social history of cafés and bars, and the way music machines helped shape youth culture, dating, nightlife and leisure. The close framing, shallow angle and glowing reflections give the photograph a stylish abstract quality, useful for editorial or commercial themes around audio equipment, retro branding, music nostalgia, vintage design, popular entertainment, vinyl records, classic rock and roll, rhythm and blues, soul, pop music and pub culture. Visible details include metallic-looking block letters, parallel orange stripes, dark casing, reflective surfaces and warm ambient light, all suggesting an indoor venue or display setting. With no visible people and no wider location markers, the image works as a generic background or conceptual shot for music articles, playlist features, record collecting, hi-fi culture, vintage electronics, interior design, themed restaurants, classic Americana, British pubs using retro décor, and wider stories about how recorded music moved from jukebox cabinets to streaming platforms while keeping a powerful hold on memory and atmosphere.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EDKYR5 - A neon Love Manchester sign inside a Manchester city centre souvenir shop, using the city's familiar civic language of pride, resilience, local identity and the worker bee. The image is useful for illustrating Manchester as a modern visitor destination as well as a politically confident city region with a strong visual brand. The worker bee has long been associated with Manchester's industrial past, referencing the city's working people, mills, manufacturing heritage and collective energy, but in recent years it has also become a widely recognised symbol of unity, remembrance and Mancunian pride. In a retail setting of gifts, souvenirs and city merchandise, the sign connects local tourism with a wider story about how Manchester presents itself to visitors, residents and investors. It also has strong contemporary relevance to Andy Burnham's tenure as Greater Manchester Mayor, the growth of city region identity and the Bee Network public transport brand. The yellow and black Bee Network has made the bee symbol newly visible across buses, trams, cycle hire and travel information, linking everyday public transport reform with Manchester's long-standing civic emblem. This makes the photograph commercially useful for editorial features on Manchester tourism, city branding, devolution, mayoral leadership, bus franchising, local government, northern regeneration, retail, culture and the visitor economy. The illuminated shop sign also works as a broader visual shorthand for Love MCR, Manchester pride, independent shopping, British souvenirs, local identity and the city's confident post-industrial image. It can support stories about the Manchester city region, public transport change, the politics of place, high street retail, civic symbolism, cultural merchandise and the way a simple bee motif has travelled from industrial heritage into modern public branding, tourism and popular culture.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E6T4T0 - Neon Baghaven sign illuminated on the exterior of Mikkeller Baghaven in Copenhagen at dusk, mounted across a large industrial-style glazed facade close to the waterfront on Refshaleøen. The image captures the distinctive atmosphere of one of Mikkeller's best-known Copenhagen venues, with turquoise and green neon lettering reflected in tall window panels, festoon lights overhead and an evening sky adding mood to the former shipyard setting. Mikkeller's official location page describes Baghaven as one of its most scenic and welcoming venues, located on Copenhagen's waterfront and known for world-class beers, while Visit Copenhagen also highlights its harbour-front position with views across the water. The photograph is useful for editorial and commercial features on Copenhagen nightlife, Danish craft beer, Mikkeller, waterfront bars, brewery culture, industrial architecture, adaptive reuse, harbour regeneration, evening leisure and travel in the Danish capital. Baghaven has long been associated with wild ales, saisons and other distinctive beer styles, making it relevant for beer tourism, specialist brewing, gastropub culture and destination drinking guides. The building's worn exterior wall, large steel-framed windows and suspended string lights give the image a strong urban-industrial character, while the neon script sign adds colour, identity and visual drama. This image can also support stories about Refshaleøen as a creative waterfront district, post-industrial redevelopment, Scandinavian design-led hospitality, outdoor summer drinking and Copenhagen's wider food and drink scene. The weather appears dry with a dramatic cloud-filled evening sky, and the overall feel is calm, stylish and slightly gritty. As a documentary editorial image, it works well for travel pages, beer features, lifestyle coverage and articles about notable bars and brewery venues in Copenhagen.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E6T4DT - Close view of an illuminated Deep Fried Mars Bar sign in the window of Cafe Piccante in Edinburgh, Scotland, presenting one of the most widely recognised and often stereotyped novelty foods associated with Scottish takeaway culture. The bright purple display, bold white lettering and visible Mars bar wrapper create an eye-catching editorial image that works strongly for themes of unhealthy eating, junk food, fried food culture, sugar and fat consumption, takeaway habits and wider public health debate. Photographed in an urban takeaway setting on Broughton Street, the picture is useful for features about diet, obesity, cardiovascular risk, food marketing, culinary stereotypes, tourism curiosity and the way particular foods become symbolic of a place, fairly or unfairly. It also lends itself to commentary on Scotland's long-running health inequalities, though the image should be read as an illustration of food culture and debate rather than proof of any direct causal link between one novelty item and population-level outcomes. That distinction matters, because lazy stereotypes about Scotland and poor diet can drift into caricature. Even so, the sign remains a strong visual shorthand for conversations about indulgence, processed food, late-night takeaway habits, cheap calories and the public tension between humour, local identity and serious health concerns. The composition has clear value for newspapers, magazines, blogs and current affairs coverage exploring nutrition, class, urban food retail, fast food environments, public policy, prevention campaigns and the commercial use of novelty products to attract custom. It is also commercially useful as a documentary image of a real Edinburgh takeaway display, with branding and place-specific context intact. Suitable subjects include deep fried food, Scottish takeaway culture, unhealthy eating concepts, food and health policy, street-level retail, neon signage, Edinburgh city life and the politics of how national food iden

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2T19PFG - Yates is an English pub chain. It was founded as Yates's Wine Lodge in Oldham, Lancashire by Peter and Simon Yates in 1884
Yates is Britain's oldest pub chain. Its motto was moderation is true temperance. The founders, brothers Peter and Simon Yates, were from Preston. Peter (who lived from April 22, 18541944) was sent to Spain to learn about wine. Simon went to the US to learn about business methods.
The first Yates Wine Lodge opened in Oldham in 1884
On July 23, 1994, Yates became a public company owned by the Yates Group PLC (Yates Brothers Wine Lodges PLC). The Yates Group also owned Ha! Ha! Bar & Canteen and operated pubs under the Blob Shop and Addison's name. In the late 1990s, its share price rose to reach a high of 550p in 1998.
In June 2001, the Yates Group entered takeover talks with Luminar Group. In July 2001, it withdrew from takeover talks and saying it would instead sell off 25 of its pubs, later putting 18 of them up for sale. On November 1, 2001, the Yates Group sold eight pubs to Morrells for £4 million, with four being in Grantham, Slough, Solihull and Tunbridge Wells.
In October 2003, Yates sold its Aussie White fortified brand to Halewood International for £1 million

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RJAFAH - Taken on 19 Aug 2023, this photograph shows Erotica Gentlemen's Club red neon sign, 34 Stanley St, Liverpool, Merseyside, England, UK, L1 6AL. The location is 34 Stanley St, Liverpool, Merseyside, England, UK, L1 6AL. The picture is not just a record shot: it contains crowds, bar signs, brickwork, hanging street signs and the compact entertainment-street atmosphere of Liverpool's Cavern Quarter. Mathew Street and the Cavern Quarter are inseparable from Beatles tourism, live music heritage, pub culture and Liverpool's visitor economy, with the narrow streets often busy on summer days. It could support features on pubs, beer, leisure, nightlife, tourism, heritage streets, local economies, independent hospitality and the pressures facing town-centre venues. For image buyers, the value is in the combination of recognisable subject, readable wording, location evidence and a plain documentary style that can be dropped into news, magazine, web, council, housing, transport, heritage or commercial commentary without looking over-produced. Searchable related phrases include Liverpool, city, tourism, attraction, Mathew St, Cavern Quarter, cavern, Gentlemens Club, Erotica, Erotica Gentlemens Club, centre, Merseyside, plus wider ideas such as local identity, public realm, urban detail, social history, commercial change, everyday Britain, documentary photography and place-based storytelling. The composition gives designers scope for captions, page furniture, social media crops, report covers and article thumbnails, while the detailed captioning makes it more discoverable for searches using both specific place names and broader themes. It also has a useful contemporary feel, because it shows how long-standing places, policies, products or institutions are encountered by ordinary people in daily life.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RD739D - How to Spot When Your Bra Doesn't Fit
Rather than trying to fit a bra yourself (leave that to the bra fitting experts!) I would advise that being able to identify when your bra doesn't fit is the first important step. Breasts can change size because of so many factors pregnancy, weight change, diet, change in medication, change in exercise routine even if the scales aren't changing, what you're eating can sometimes make breasts change size/shape, so getting properly fitted regularly is vital.
Knowing when it's time to get a newly-fitted bra is the first crucial step to becoming empowered and finding a new (more comfortable) you. When you're measured for a bra you won't need a tape measure using a tape measure to measure boobs is like using one to measure a jug of water. Boobs are 3 dimensional and a tape measure is 2 dimensional it just doesn't work!
A good bra fitting specialist (just like a good tailor) will be able to fit you by eye. All bras fit differently and a good bra fitter should be able to fit each bra to each person. Here at Mish we look at:
The Band
A good-fitting brand should be parallel all the way around and be in line with clips at the back. 80% of the work is done by the band so it needs to be right!
Underwire
Not all bras are underwired but those that are need to have the wire sitting outside the breast tissue in the centre against the rib cage nice and flush against the skin. Sometimes it won't because of the shape of breast or sternum- each person is different.
Cups
Crucially, the breast tissue should be sitting inside the cup and not be cutting it in half to create that four boob' effect!
Shoulder Straps
The tension of the shoulder straps is crucial. It should have enough give' and be able to pull up an inch, but not around your ears! Ideally if you drop your shoulder and try to wriggle the bra strap off it shouldn't come off. If it is then it's too loose (or it could be that the band is too big).

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R3WMW6 - This image shows a brightly illuminated vintage neon sign reading Eton Rifles, displayed amid a dense arrangement of colourful electric signage at God's Own Junkyard in Walthamstow, East London. The sign features bold red lettering and a circular target motif, surrounded by overlapping neon forms that create a visually saturated and immersive environment.
God's Own Junkyard is internationally known for its collection of reclaimed and commissioned neon signs, many of which reference British pubs, popular culture, film, music, and advertising. Signs like this one reflect the craftsmanship of traditional sign making, where hand-bent glass tubes and vivid gases were used to create durable, eye-catching illumination long before the rise of digital displays.
Photographed indoors under low ambient light, the intense glow of the neon dominates the frame, emphasising colour, contrast, and texture. The overlapping lights create a sense of visual overload that is central to the Junkyard's appeal, turning commercial signage into a form of contemporary light art.
This image is well suited to editorial use covering neon art, visual culture, design history, creative reuse, London subculture, and the continuing fascination with analogue signage in a digital age.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R3Y98N - A liquor store is a retail business that predominantly sells prepackaged liquors (typically in bottles), wine or beer, usually intended to be consumed off the store's premises. Depending on region and local idiom, they may also be called an off-licence (in the UK and Ireland), off-sale (in parts of Canada and the US), bottle shop, bottle store or, colloquially, bottle-o (in Australia, New Zealand and parts of Canada), liquor store (in Canada, the US, Australia and New Zealand) or other similar terms. A very limited number of jurisdictions have an alcohol monopoly. In US states that are alcoholic beverage control (ABC) states, the term ABC store may be used.
The Twenty-first Amendment of the United States Constitution allows states to regulate the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages. State regulations vary widely. The majority of the U.S. states have laws specifying which alcoholic beverages must be sold in specialty liquor stores and which may be sold in other venues.
In seventeen alcoholic beverage control (ABC) states, the specialty liquor stores are owned and operated exclusively by the state government, where liquor stores often sell only spirits or sometimes sell spirits and wine but not beer. ABC-run stores may be called ABC stores or state stores.
In Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Texas, liquor stores are also known as package stores
locally in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and areas bordering these states the term pack or packie is used as well, because purchased liquor must be packaged in sealed bottles or other containers when it is taken from the store
In three states (Kansas, Minnesota, and Utah), only low-point beer may be sold in supermarkets or gas stations. In Utah, stores not owned and operated by the state are known as Package Agencies. These are liquor outlets operated by private individuals or corporate entities under contract with the state for the purpose of selling packaged liquor

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2P4JXRR - The Liverpool Playhouse is a theatre in Williamson Square in the city of Liverpool, England. It originated in 1866 as a music hall, and in 1911 developed into a repertory theatre. As such it nurtured the early careers of many actors and actresses, some of whom went on to achieve national and international reputations. Architectural changes have been made to the building over the years, the latest being in 1968 when a modern-style extension was added to the north of the theatre. In 1999 a trust was formed, joining the management of the Playhouse with that of the Everyman Theatre.
The present theatre on the site was designed by Edward Davies, and opened in 1866. It replaced an earlier theatre called the Star Concert Hall. The present theatre was originally named the Star Music Hall
The exterior of the older part of the theatre is stuccoed, and it has a slate roof. Its entrance front faces Williamson Square. It has seven bays and is in three storeys. The central three bays project forward and are surmounted by a broken pediment. On the ground floor the central bays contain three entrances, separated by pillars, which lead to a recessed porch. Over each entrance is an architrave containing a fanlight.
The newer section is constructed in concrete, and largely faced by glass. On the ground floor are entrance doors. Above this, the building is based around three cylinders. The largest of these starts at the first floor and rises through two storeys. It is cantilevered from a central column. To the left is a smaller cylinder, cantilevered from a separate column, interlocking with the larger cylinder. Inside the whole is a hollow column containing the stairs

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M0KX3W - The Electric Cinema is a cinema in Notting Hill, London. One of the oldest working film theatres in Britain, it became Britain's first black-owned cinema in 1993, and remained black-owned until it was sold in 2000.
As of 2022, after a couple of changes of hands, the cinema is also known as the Electric Portobello, with a second screen at the old Television Centre at White City called the Electric White City
The Electric Cinema first opened in London's Portobello Road on 24 February 1910. It was one of the first buildings in Britain to be designed specifically for motion picture exhibition, and was one of the first buildings in the vicinity to be supplied with electricity. Its first film was Henry VIII, screened on 23 February 1911.
The venue opened 18 years before talkies became the norm, so had no facilities to broadcast sound. The cinema was soon eclipsed by the huge picture palaces that became fashionable during the 1930s but, despite being shuttered for brief periods, it has remained in almost continual use until the present day.
Designed by architect Gerald Seymour Valentin in the Edwardian Baroque style, it originally opened as the Electric Cinema Theatre, with 600 seats. During World War I an angry mob attacked the Electric, believing that its German-born manager was signalling to Zeppelin raiders from the roof, after nearby Arundel Gardens was hit by a bomb dropped from a Zeppelin
Later, in 1932, the Electric became the Imperial Playhouse cinema, though by this time the Portobello Road area had become run down, along with the rest of Notting Hill. During this time, the venue's nickname among locals was The Bughole.
During WWII the venue was attended by up to 4000 per week, despite the Luftwaffe's night-time bombing raids.[9] During the late 1940s the notorious mass murderer John Christie (18991953) of nearby 10 Rillington Place is said to have worked at the Electric as a projectionist
It is a Grade II* Listed building.

A BOLD EXPRESSION IN KFC'S NEW STORE DESIGN
Designing KFC's innovative restaurant concept and brand expression
There are dramatic changes afoot in the world of Quick Service Retailing', driven by new levels of consumer expectations and dynamic new food experiences. This revolution is exemplified by KFC's mission to express its true values, much loved product proposition and brand story, through the experience in its restaurants. Having already taken KFC several leaps forwards in its transformation through small, fast-casual metropolitan concept, I-AM secured the brief to update the design, customer journey and in-restaurant communications for KFC's primary format.
KFC's Brand Personality
KFC's story is irresistible
and its personality has always been inseparable from a joyful love of chicken. Lately a bold energy and vibrancy is driving KFC in the UK, celebrating the brand's story, taking pride in the simple, joyful deliciousness of Finger Lickin' Good fresh fried chicken and the social aspect of bringing people together over a KFC. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2ABJGFB - A taverna is a small Greek restaurant that serves Greek cuisine. The taverna is an integral part of Greek culture and has become familiar to people from other countries who visit Greece, as well as through the establishment of tavernes (ταβέρνες, plural) in countries such as the United States and Australia by expatriate Greeks.
The earliest evidence of a Greek restaurant, or taverna, was discovered at the Ancient Agora of Athens (or Athenian Agora) during archaeological excavations conducted by the American School of Classical Studies in the early 1970s. Large quantities of classical Greek cooking and eating utensils were found at the taverna such as plates, mixing bowls, lidded casseroles, spits for broiling meat, mortars for chopping and grinding, as well as a cooking bell and a variety of jugs. Furthermore, large amounts of fish bones and shellfish remains were discovered revealing the menu specialties of the classical Greek taverna such as oysters, mussels, murex shells, and large fish. A nearby wine shop in the Athenian Agora, possibly in association with the taverna, served local Attic wine, as well as a wide variety of wines imported from Chios, Mende, Corinth, Samos and Lesbos.[1] In the 10th century AD, taverns in the Byzantine Empire that served pure wine were subject to a curfew in order to prevent alcohol-induced violence and rioting, as documented in the Book of the Eparch 19

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AEDHXR - Traditional Irish Restaurants in Dublin
Ireland is known for great music, great art and great literature not so much for great food. However, Dublin's best traditional restaurants are fighting back against the cuisine's bland reputation with exceptional local produce, innovative cooking techniques and a liberal serving of the country's trademark creativity.
Hearty, warming and wholesome that's Irish food in brief, but its detractors would say there's little more to it than stewed meat and potatoes. According to local restaurant owners, including Elaine Murphy, director of The Winding Stair Group of restaurants, this couldn't be further from the truth. I believe we have come incredibly far as a post-colonial nation, in terms of confidence in our own product, she says. In Dublin, you'll still find traditional classics such as coddle (a jumble of bacon, sausage and potato) and Irish lamb stew, but you'll also find exciting Michelin-acclaimed chefs taking the cuisine to new heights.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M84K2W - Though an earlier license had existed on part of the current site of The Temple Bar, we can directly trace the existing license back to 1835 when enterprising publican, Cornelius O'Meara, Grocer, Tea, Wine, and Spirit Merchant acquired the blossoming location at the corner of Temple Lane and adjacent to Samuel Figgis, Porter Merchant, who ran his thriving brewing business here. The city of Dublin was experiencing something of an economic renaissance at this time and Temple Bar was idyllically laced between the river and the administrative centre of Dublin.
O'Meara was a committed publican intent on spreading his wings. He also ran another pub at No. 1 Wood Quay. This was then at the epicentre of Dublin 19th century rag trade. O'Meara's two nearest neighbours were Christopher McCauley, Hat Manufacturer, and Edward Loman, Hatter.
O'Meara served almost a decade at the Temple Bar Pub before he sold out to James Farley, Grocer and Spirit Merchant in 1844. James Farley knew the business here very well, having made but a short journey from 38 East Essex Street where he had operated as a Provisions dealer. James Farley's reign at this old hostelery was of brief duration.
The Great Famine was raging across the country with unprecedented horror and devastation when William Cranston, a much respected Dublin publican, took the wheel in 1847.
During the middle to late 1850s, a new wave of Provisions, Dealers and Dram Grocers had infiltrated the Temple Bar area. They operated the practise of dram-drinking'. The Dram Grocers allowed customers to buy spirits in an off-sales liquor store capacity and illegally consume them on the premises behind screens and makeshift partitions. This practice created much financial hardship for the authorities and regular or legitimate vintners (wine merchants).
William Cranston was a member of the License Trade delegation who traveled to lobby the British Parliament in Westminster, London, in 1863 to have this practice forbidden

In 2010, BrewDog opened their first bar, in nearby Aberdeen. At the end of 2018, the company operates 50 bars in the United Kingdom and 24 international bars.
In 2011, BrewDog was described as one of the prime movers behind the campaign which changed the law in 2011 to allow new beer measures in Britain.
2011 also saw the company offered crowdfunding shares totalling £2 million, the equivalent of 8% of the capital of the company. The shares were sold at £23.75 and accompanied several benefits such as discounts in their bars and online purchase of their beers, and the opportunity to attend their annual shareholders meeting.
The main brewing moved from Fraserburgh to nearby Ellon in 2012.
In February 2016, BrewDog open-sourced its beer recipes to the public, making them a form of Free Beer.
Private equity firm, TSG Consumer Partners acquired a 22% stake in the company for approximately £213 million in April 2017.
In February 2018, BrewDog announced that it plans to build a $30 million production brewery and tap room on an 11,000sqm greenfield site in the Metroplex complex at Murrarie, in Brisbane, Australia.
BrewDog's provocative marketing has been a key aspect of its business, and has gained them substantial international coverage.
In 2008, BrewDog were challenged by UK drinks industry watchdog the Portman Group. Portman had claimed BrewDog to be in breach of their Code of Practice for the labeling of the Dead Pony IPA. BrewDog denied these allegations and countered that Portman was impeding the development of smaller brewing companies. In December 2008, after an 8-month long dispute and a preliminary adjudication which had ruled against the company, BrewDog were cleared of all breaches of the Code of Practice and were permitted to continue marketing their brands without making any changes to the packaging.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy TRN106 - Orkney, Shetland, Inverness, Ayrshire and Fife are among the regions represented in a series of 12 limited edition Tennent's fonts.
Designed to create stand out' on the bar, the fonts are currently being rolled out to selected pubs and bars across Scotland.
Eleven regions Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth, Fife, Stirling, Ayrshire, Shetland, Orkney and Inverness are represented along with a general Scotland design for outlets outwith the selected regions.
Each of the fonts, created by design agency D8, features landmarks and references from the region it represents, such as Edinburgh's Calton Hill, the Finnieston Crane in Glasgow, Aberdeen's Dunnottar Castle, Deep Sea World in Fife, Orkney's Viking longship, shinty in Inverness and Perth's Tay Bridge.
Alan Hay, on-trade sales director at Tennent's, said 250 fonts of each design will be rolled out this summer.
Supporting our customers will always be our priority, and following the success of our customisable founts, we are now rolling out fount designs for specific regions of Scotland, he said.
No other brand knows the Scottish on-trade like we do and we're sure the cultural references on each fount will create a real talking point amongst pub-goers
we can't wait to see how they look in bars around the country.
We want our drinkers to have a quality experience when enjoying a pint of Tennent's, and that starts with how our fount looks on the bar.
The roll out of the limited edition fonts comes after Tennent's extended its partnership with Scottish Rugby in a seven-figure deal.
Under the new agreement, Tennent's will continue its relationship with the Scotland national team and the country's two professional sides: Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors, alongside the additional title sponsorship of the Scottish domestic leagues.
The brewer will additionally take on the naming rights of the Premiership and National leagues, with the newly-formed Scottish Championship to follow in 2019/2020.

It is designated as part of the A40, a major road between London and Fishguard, though it is not signed as such, and traffic is regularly restricted to buses and taxis.
The road was originally part of the Via Trinobantina, a Roman road between Essex and Hampshire via London. It was known as Tyburn Road through the Middle Ages when it was notorious for public hangings of prisoners in Newgate Prison. It became known as Oxford Road and then Oxford Street in the 18th century, and began to change from residential to commercial and retail purposes by the late 19th century, attracting street traders, confidence tricksters and prostitution. The first department stores in Britain opened in the early 20th century, including Selfridges, John Lewis and HMV. Unlike nearby shopping streets such as Bond Street, it has retained an element of downmarket trading alongside more prestigious retail stores. The street suffered heavy bombing during World War II, and several longstanding stores including John Lewis were completely destroyed and rebuilt from scratch.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RMJ3B8 - Regent Street is a major shopping street in the West End of London. It is named after George, the Prince Regent (later George IV) and was laid out under the direction of the architect John Nash and James Burton. It runs from Waterloo Place in St James's at the southern end, through Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus, to All Souls Church. From there Langham Place and Portland Place continue the route to Regent's Park.
The street's layout was completed in 1825 and was an early example of town planning in England, replacing earlier roads including Swallow Street. Nash and Burton's street layout has survived, although all the original buildings except All Souls Church have been replaced following reconstruction in the late 19th century. The street is known for its flagship retail stores, including Liberty, Hamleys, Jaeger and the Apple Store. The Royal Polytechnic Institution, now the University of Westminster, has been based on Regent Street since 1838.
Regent Street is approximately 0.8 miles (1.3 km) long and begins at a junction with Charles II Street as a continuation of Waterloo Place. It runs north to Piccadilly Circus, where it turns left before curving round the Quadrant to head north again, meeting Oxford Street at Oxford Circus. It ends at a junction with Cavendish Place and Mortimer Street near the BBC Broadcasting House, with the road ahead being Langham Place, followed by Portland Place.
The southern section of the road is one-way northbound and part of the A4, a major road through West London. From Piccadilly Circus northwards, it is numbered A4201, though in common with roads inside the London congestion charging zone, the number does not appear on signs.
Nearby tube stations are Charing Cross, Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus
the lattermost being one of the busiest underground stations in London, and is where three main lines (Central, Bakerloo and Victoria) meet. Several bus routes, such as 6, 12, and 13, run along Regent Street

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RMJ3BB - Carnaby Street is a pedestrianised shopping street in Soho in the City of Westminster, Central London. Close to Oxford Street and Regent Street, it is home to fashion and lifestyle retailers, including a large number of independent fashion boutiques.
Streets crossing, or meeting with, Carnaby Street are, from south to north, Beak Street, Broadwick Street, Kingly Court, Ganton Street, Marlborough Court, Lowndes Court, Fouberts Place, Little Marlborough Street and Great Marlborough Street. The nearest London Underground station is Oxford Circus (on the Bakerloo, Central and Victoria lines).
Carnaby Street derives its name from Karnaby House, which was built in 1683 to the east. The origin of the name is unknown. The street was probably laid out in 1685 or 1686. First appearing in the ratebooks in 1687, it was almost completely built up by 1690 with small houses. A market was developed in the 1820s. In his novel, Sybil (1845), Benjamin Disraeli refers to a carcase-butcher famous in Carnaby-market.
This area is notable for a cholera outbreak in 1854 leading to an early application of fundamental epidemiological principles to resolve the crisis. John Snow, the physician who recognised the cases were concentrated near a pump on Broad Street communicated the finding on a map-based graphic. It led to the pump being locked and the reduction in cases of cholera was rapid.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2A4PJJX - Ross Sinclair is an artist, writer and musician who is Professor of Contemporary Art Practice within the School of Fine Art at The Glasgow School of Art. He is best known for his Real Life' research project initiated when he had the words REAL LIFE tattooed in black ink across his back, at Terry's Tattoo parlour in Glasgow, 1994.
Sinclair completed a PhD by Published Work in 2016 where he interrogated and articulated the innovative nature of the Real Life project, unusual in its scale and duration, defining the contribution to contemporary art practice across the fields of sculpture, painting, performance, installation, critical writing and music. Drawing on these multi-disciplinary methodologies Sinclair maps out the forms, materials and processes activated over almost 25 Years of Real Life Projects, that often combine unusual and unorthodox approaches challenging conventional modes of exhibition practice, enabling new means of engagement with the viewer. The multi part thesis submitted claims these routes as an autonomous, artist initiated project, connecting with the public at a dynamic intersection of ideas, context, performance and art-practice.
Sinclair's Real Life Project is set in a critical framework of contested paradigms of Everyday Life and The Real and acknowledges the influence of key critical thinkers over the quarter century of its development from Barthes, Baudrillard and De Certeau, through Bourriaud, Bishop and Kester and more recently in Harman, Mark Fisher and Paul O'Neill amongst many others. The project has been punctuated by the exploration of individual and collective relationships with Real Life particularly viewed through contemporary paradigms constructing society such as: Democracy, Utopia, Justice, Capitalism, Geography and History, the Church, the Bank, the State, while in parallel addressing the role of the tattooed artist himself.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RMJ3BE - A cocktail is an alcoholic mixed drink, which is either a combination of spirits, or one or more spirits mixed with other ingredients such as fruit juice, lemonade, flavored syrup, or cream. There are various types of cocktails, based on the number and kind of ingredients added. The origins of the cocktail are debated.
The Oxford Dictionaries define cocktail as An alcoholic drink consisting of a spirit or spirits mixed with other ingredients, such as fruit juice or cream. A cocktail can contain alcohol, a sugar, and a bitter/citrus. When a mixed drink contains only a distilled spirit and a mixer, such as soda or fruit juice, it is a highball. Many of the International Bartenders Association Official Cocktails are highballs. When a mixed drink contains only a distilled spirit and a liqueur, it is a duo, and when it adds a mixer, it is a trio. Additional ingredients may be sugar, honey, milk, cream, and various herbs.
Mixed drinks without alcohol that resemble cocktails are known as mocktails or virgin cocktails.
Traditionally cocktails were a mixture of spirits, sugar, water, and bitters. The term highball appears during the 1890s to distinguish a drink composed only of a distilled spirit and a mixer. During Prohibition in the United States (19191933), when alcoholic beverages were illegal, cocktails were still consumed illegally in establishments known as speakeasies.

It was initially developed in London under the purview of the London Rubber Company and British Latex Products Ltd, where it was manufactured between 1932 and 1994. The London Rubber Company was formed in 1915, and the Durex brand name (Durability, reliability, and excellence) was launched in 1929, although London Rubber did not begin manufacturing own-brand condoms until 1932, in collaboration with a rubber technology student from Poland named Lucian Lundau. The first book on The London Rubber Company and the history of Durex condoms, written by Jessica Borge, was published in September 2020 by McGill-Queen's University Press.
The London Rubber Company later merged with SSL International, since 2010 which has been owned by the Anglo-Dutch company Reckitt Benckiser. It is one of the best-selling condom brands around the world, with 30% of the global market. In 2006, Durex condoms were the second-best-selling brand of condoms in the United States, with Trojan condoms being the first. It is supplied by, among others, the company Karex.
In 2007 the last factory making Durex condoms in the UK stopped manufacturing and production has since moved to China, India and Thailand. The modern range includes a wide variety of latex condom, including the Sheik and Ramses brands in North America, and the Avanti condom. Durex also provides a range of lubricants and sex toys.
Although Durex was not an official sponsor of the Olympic Games, Durex provided 150,000 free condoms to more than 10,000 athletes that competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RG9840 - Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC, or simply Fender) is an American manufacturer of stringed instruments and amplifiers. Fender produces acoustic guitars, electric basses, bass amplifiers and public address equipment, but is best known for its solid-body electric guitars and bass guitars, particularly the Stratocaster, Telecaster, Precision Bass, and the Jazz Bass. The company was founded in Fullerton, California, by Clarence Leonidas Leo Fender in 1946. Its headquarters are in Scottsdale, Arizona.
FMIC is a privately held corporation, with Andy Mooney serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The company filed for an initial public offering in March 2012,[4] but this was withdrawn five months later. In addition to its Scottsdale headquarters, Fender has manufacturing facilities in Corona, California (US) and Ensenada, Baja California (Mexico).
As of July 10, 2012, the majority shareholders of Fender were the private equity firm of Weston Presidio (43%), Japanese music distributors Yamano Music (14%) and Kanda Shokai (13%) and Servco Pacific (5%). In December 2012, TPG Growth (the middle market and growth equity investment platform of TPG Capital) and Servco Pacific took control of the company after acquiring the shares held by Weston Presidio.
In 1950, Fender introduced the first mass-produced solid-body Spanish-style electric guitar, the Telecaster (originally named the Broadcaster for two-pickup models and Esquire for single-pickup). Following its success, Fender created the first mass-produced electric bass, the Precision Bass (P-Bass). In 1954, Fender unveiled the Stratocaster (Strat) guitar. With the Telecaster and Precision Bass having been on the market for some time, Leo Fender was able to incorporate input from working musicians into the Stratocaster's design.
