Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E9ANT9 - Documentary motorsport image from the East Riding Stages Rally in Beverley, East Yorkshire, showing car 97, a blue Subaru Impreza crewed by driver Tim Milner and co-driver Reece Brookes. The car is parked in the town centre service or ceremonial area, with marshals in blue tabards, event infrastructure, sponsor decals, rally numbers, gold wheels, rear spoiler and the distinctive Subaru saloon bodywork all visible. The scene captures the public-facing side of a closed-road stage rally, where competition cars, crews, officials and spectators come together in a market town setting before or between timed stages. Results and event documents for the 2026 East Riding Stages Rally list Tim Milner and Reece Brookes in a Subaru Impreza, car 97, with Milner associated with De Lacy Motor Club and Brookes with Ecurie Royal Oak. Rallies.info records the crew finishing 68th overall, 9th in class 2, with a total time of 1:15:03.9. The photograph is useful for editorial coverage of British rallying, East Yorkshire motorsport, closed-road rally events, grassroots motorsport, clubman rally crews, Subaru Impreza rally cars, event marshalling, town-centre rally displays and the growth of rally tourism in Beverley. The East Riding Stages Rally has become a notable Beverley-based event and an opening round of the Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship, bringing rally cars into ordinary streets, rural roads and public spaces. The Subaru Impreza remains strongly associated with rally culture because of its World Rally Championship heritage, making this image valuable for stories about privateer rallying, Japanese performance cars, four-wheel drive competition cars, blue rally liveries, spectators, volunteers and accessible UK motorsport. The composition also works for features about event organisation, road closures, local economic impact, safety marshals, rally scrutineering, service areas and the relationship between traditional market towns and modern motorsport spectacle.

The image captures the premium side of a modern Grand Prix weekend, where racing, luxury branding, leisure spending, food stalls, drinks concessions and spectator entertainment sit alongside the on-track action. The white Moët & Chandon kiosk, branded Champagne Bar signage, smart seating, casual summer clothing and busy background crowd all suggest an expensive treat for Formula 1 fans enjoying a day at one of Britain's biggest sporting events. Silverstone is the home of the British Grand Prix and one of the most recognisable motorsport venues in the world, attracting large crowds, corporate guests, enthusiasts, families and international visitors. The photograph is useful for editorial coverage of F1 hospitality, premium event catering, race-day spending, champagne sponsorship, luxury drinks marketing, corporate entertainment, the leisure economy, sports tourism and the increasingly festival-like atmosphere around major motorsport events. Visible details include people seated around low white tables, gold-coloured champagne buckets, a branded temporary bar, nearby food stalls, picnic benches, dry grass underfoot and an overcast British summer sky. Moët & Chandon returned as Formula One's official champagne provider from 2025 as part of the wider LVMH partnership with Formula 1, giving the image a clear link to current motorsport sponsorship and the long tradition of champagne within racing culture. It also works as a lightly humorous stock image about posh fizz at the Grand Prix, the cost of attending major sporting events and the contrast between high-end hospitality and ordinary fans treating themselves during a big day out at Silverstone.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E8PTXH - Visitors walk beside the Escapade Silverstone trackside residences at Silverstone Circuit, passing a row of angular contemporary apartments with projecting balconies overlooking the famous motor racing venue. The image shows the distinctive design-led accommodation built into the circuit environment, where motorsport fans can stay close to the track and view racing action from private balconies and hospitality spaces. Escapade Silverstone describes itself as being in the heart of Silverstone and offers one to four-bedroom residences, with trackside options marketed as giving front-row access to the Grand Prix circuit. Its own material says some residences provide views of nine corners and two high-speed straights, while separate Escapade information describes the development as 60 individual residences with a clubhouse, restaurant, bar, gym, pool, sauna and treatment rooms. This photograph is commercially useful for stories about Formula 1, the British Grand Prix, Silverstone hospitality, motorsport tourism, luxury accommodation, race weekend stays, leisure property, sports venue development and the changing visitor economy around major circuits. The walking spectators, bright summer sky, trackside path, modern cladding, glass balconies and repeating architectural forms create a strong editorial image of high-end motorsport accommodation rather than a conventional hotel frontage. It can also illustrate wider themes including experience-led travel, premium event hospitality, sports business, trackside real estate, architectural design at sports venues, destination tourism and how major sporting sites are expanding beyond race-day seating into year-round leisure, dining and overnight stays. The image has particular value for coverage of Silverstone as the home of British motorsport and a major Northamptonshire visitor attraction, showing how spectators, guests and accommodation now sit directly alongside the racing circuit environment.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E8PTXK - Four costumed stilt walkers wave large black-and-white chequered flags while entertaining spectators at the British Formula One Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit in July. The performers wear coordinated red, black and checked racing-themed outfits, with two elevated entertainers standing on each side of a visitor posing beneath the flags. Grandstands, event structures, tyre displays, refreshment outlets and racegoers fill the background under a bright blue summer sky, creating a colourful festival atmosphere at one of Britain's largest sporting events.
The scene shows how the British Grand Prix has developed into more than a motor race. Alongside practice, qualifying and the main Formula One contest, the Silverstone weekend offers roaming performers, live music, fan zones, merchandise, food, hospitality and other activities designed to entertain visitors. The chequered flag is one of motor racing's most recognisable symbols, traditionally displayed to mark the end of a race, and its use by the stilt walkers provides an immediate visual connection with Formula One and motorsport culture.
Silverstone is widely known as the home of the British Grand Prix and hosted the opening round of the inaugural Formula One World Championship in 1950. The former wartime airfield became a permanent racing venue and remains central to British motor racing heritage. Large crowds travel from across Britain and overseas for the July event, with many spectators camping nearby and attending for several days.
This sunny documentary photograph is suitable for editorial themes involving Formula One supporters, British motorsport, event entertainment, summer festivals, crowd engagement, visitor experience, tourism, sporting culture and family-friendly activities. The dry grass and strong sunlight suggest warm midsummer conditions, while the flags, costumes and elevated performers capture the spectacle and celebratory energy surrounding a major international race weekend

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E8PTXE - Handwritten chalkboard advertises an £18 full English breakfast and a £28 Breakfast of Champions at Silverstone Woodlands campsite during the British Formula One Grand Prix weekend in July. The sign stands on dry summer grass outside The Ox pub and restaurant marquee, with picnic benches, temporary catering structures and colourful event decoration visible behind it. The informal scene captures the high prices that visitors can encounter for food and drink at major sporting events, especially when staying for several days at a busy race-weekend campsite.
Silverstone Woodlands is located beside Silverstone Circuit near Gates 14 and 15 at Club Corner. It provides tent pitches, campervan spaces, pre-pitched tents and glamping for Formula One spectators, together with bars, food traders, entertainment and other temporary facilities. During the Grand Prix, thousands of fans stay close to the circuit so they can walk to the track and continue socialising after the racing has finished.
The £28 breakfast offer provides a striking example of event pricing and the wider cost of attending Formula One. Beyond race tickets, visitors may pay for camping, travel, parking, food, drinks and entertainment across a long weekend. Caterers operating temporary venues also face staffing, transport, equipment, refrigeration, licensing, power, waste and supply costs, although customers may still regard £28 for breakfast as unusually expensive.
This documentary image is useful for editorial themes involving Formula One tourism, inflation, hospitality pricing, cost-of-living pressures, festival food, campsite catering, consumer spending and the commercial economy surrounding major sports events. The chalk lettering, weathered grass and temporary marquee give the photograph an authentic race-camping atmosphere, while the phrase Breakfast of Champions playfully links a substantial morning meal with elite motor racing and the celebratory culture of the British Grand Prix.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EE4M62 - Hilton Garden Inn Silverstone and its Formula One hospitality entrance beside Hamilton Straight during the British Grand Prix weekend. The photograph shows the modern trackside hotel, prominent Hilton Garden Inn branding and a large hospitality enclosure as racegoers walk through the Silverstone complex beneath an overcast summer sky. The hotel's position directly alongside the circuit places guests and corporate visitors close to the starting grid, pit lane activity and some of the most important action of the race weekend.
Hilton describes the property as being located on Hamilton Straight, with panoramic Silverstone views, track-view bedrooms, an on-site restaurant and a rooftop bar. During the Formula One British Grand Prix, the hotel also supports Starting Grid hospitality packages positioned opposite the pits. These premium experiences can include shared or private suites, viewing balconies, all-day dining and open-bar service, combining accommodation, food, business entertainment and close-up views of international motor racing.
The scene illustrates the commercial scale of modern Formula One hospitality. Major race weekends attract sponsors, businesses, invited guests and affluent spectators willing to pay for convenient accommodation and exclusive trackside access. Hotel rooms and hospitality packages at Silverstone can be in especially high demand, reflecting limited circuit-side capacity and the value attached to views over Hamilton Straight.
This editorial image suits themes involving Formula One tourism, corporate hospitality, premium sporting experiences, motorsport business, trackside hotels, event accommodation and the high cost of attending major international sport. The branded entrance, streams of spectators and imposing hotel exterior document how Silverstone has developed beyond a racing circuit into a broader leisure, conference and hospitality destination.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EE4M65 - Hilton Garden Inn Silverstone photographed beside the British Formula One Grand Prix circuit, with its large red hotel name sign dominating the foreground and the multi-storey building rising behind. The hotel stands directly alongside Hamilton Straight and forms part of the premium accommodation and hospitality offer at one of the world's best-known motor racing venues. Its location provides close access to the track, with selected bedrooms and suites offering circuit views from private balconies.
The hotel has 197 bedrooms and includes the trackside BOX Bar & Kitchen, a rooftop bar, a Starbucks coffee shop, fitness facilities and meeting space. Hilton promotes panoramic views of Silverstone, while the circuit describes the property as offering bedrooms overlooking the starting grid. During major race weekends, especially the Formula One British Grand Prix in July, accommodation and hospitality near the circuit can command high prices because of exceptional demand, limited availability and the value placed on immediate trackside access.
This image illustrates the increasingly commercial and hospitality-led character of major international sporting events. Formula One visitors may spend substantial sums not only on admission tickets but also on hotels, premium viewing areas, dining, corporate packages, travel and entertainment. For businesses and sponsors, trackside venues can provide client entertainment and networking opportunities, while fans may regard a room overlooking the circuit as a rare luxury experience.
The low-angle architectural view emphasises the hotel's scale, dark cladding, long rows of windows and bold Hilton Garden Inn branding. Photographed beneath an overcast sky, it suits editorial themes involving British motorsport, expensive sports hospitality, Formula One tourism, hotel pricing, corporate entertainment, event accommodation, Silverstone development and the wider commercial economy surrounding the British Grand Prix.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EE4M68 - A McLaren MCL38 Formula One car displayed at Silverstone during a British Grand Prix event, presented in the team's distinctive papaya orange and black colour scheme. The side view reveals the sculpted aerodynamic bodywork, front and rear wings, halo cockpit protection, Pirelli tyres and prominent sponsor branding including Chrome, Cisco, Dewalt and Jack Daniel's. The display plinth carries the responsible drinking message Never Drink and Drive, while spectators gather around the covered exhibition area beneath a grey, showery summer sky.
McLaren introduced the MCL38 as its challenger for the 2024 FIA Formula One World Championship, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri sharing driving duties. The car became one of the most successful McLarens of the modern era, earning six Grand Prix victories and helping the team secure the 2024 Constructors' Championship, its first for 26 years. It scored points at every event and completed the season without a mechanical retirement across the 24 Grands Prix and six Sprint races.
The alcohol-awareness wording reflects Jack Daniel's role as an official McLaren Formula One Team partner and places a clear road-safety message alongside the glamour, speed and commercial sponsorship of elite motorsport. It creates a useful contrast between controlled competition on a closed racing circuit and the dangers of alcohol-impaired driving on public roads.
This editorial image is suitable for themes involving Formula One technology, McLaren racing heritage, British motorsport, responsible drinking campaigns, road safety, alcohol sponsorship, commercial partnerships and fan engagement. The close profile view highlights the MCL38's low stance, exposed wheels and complex aerodynamic surfaces, while the crowd and temporary event setting document the promotional displays surrounding a major international race weekend

Vehicles are raced against one another, with the winner being the first to the checkered flag after a set number of laps. Contact to damage an opponent's car is permitted and encouraged within the formula, with cars progressively becoming more damaged throughout an event. Races are held at an oval or tri-oval circuits that are up to 1⁄4 mile (440 yd
400 m) long
however, on certain occasions, races are held in a figure of eight configurations. Banger racing is often confused with stock car racing, although there are differences between the two, despite often racing at the same tracks.
Banger racing vehicles are normally scrap or 'written-off' cars in varying states of disrepair. In modern bangers, there are different events held for different vehicle types.
The most common type are 'Unlimited' bangers, where cars racing have no set engine size limit. Despite the high running costs, this is usually one of the most competitive classes and is favoured by most drivers because of the high speeds and car strengths. Fans often regard the unlimited class as the sport's pinnacle, with many big championship races being raced to unlimited class specs.

The race started at 15:00 local time on 3 July. Max Verstappen took the lead at the start from Carlos Sainz Jr., while Lewis Hamilton moved up to third. Zhou Guanyu and George Russell both experienced poor starts and were passed by Nicholas Latifi. Gasly attempted to pass between Zhou and Russell, but Russell moved to the left in an attempt to keep position. Subsequently, Gasly and Russell made contact and caused Russell to lose control and hit Zhou. The impact flipped Zhou's car and he skid across the track upside down. His car bounced over the tyre barrier, hit the protection fence and came to a rest between the fence and tyre barrier. As a result of the incident, Valtteri Bottas slowed slightly, which caused Alexander Albon to also slow. Sebastian Vettel attempted to brake, but was too close to Albon and hit him. Albon spun into the concrete pit wall, rebounded back on the track and was hit by Yuki Tsunoda and Esteban Ocon, both of whom received damage but were able to return to the pits. However, Albon was unable to continue. Russell, who had spun, stopped to help the marshalls with Zhou's flipped car. When he returned to his car, he failed to turn the engine on and was forced to retire.
Race control red-flagged the race due to both crashes. Zhou was extracted from his Alfa Romeo and stretchered to an ambulance where he was taken to the race medical centre. Albon was also taken to the race medical centre but was later transferred by helicopter to Coventry Hospital for observations. Both were later released

George Russell had a bad start and was passed by Nicholas Latifi and Zhou Guanyu pulled alongside him leaving a large gap between them. Gasly attempted to pass between Zhou and Russell, but Russell moved to the left too late to close the gap causing his left rear tyre to make contact with Gasly's right front. Gasly backed out but the impact pointed Russell's car to the left shooting him across the track and directly into the side of Zhou's car. The impact launched Zhou's car into the air where he landed upside down skidding down the track, then skipped and bounced all the way across the very long gravel trap at the end of the straightaway barely slowing but turning sideways before the inverted car suddenly dug into the gravel just short of the tire barrier still carrying so much speed and momentum that it launched so high it just glanced off the top of the barrier as it flew over it, rotating 540 degrees on its axis before hitting the catch fencing sideways facing up just a few feet from the front row of the grandstands before dropping 8 feet landing wedged into the small gap between the fence and tyre barrier where it stopped with the cockpit up against the backside of the tire barrier. As a result of the incident, Valtteri Bottas slowed slightly, which caused Alexander Albon to also slow. Sebastian Vettel attempted to brake, but was too close to Albon and hit him. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JFTMHT - The race started at 15:00 local time on 3 July. Max Verstappen took the lead at the start from Carlos Sainz Jr., while Lewis Hamilton moved up to third. Albon spun into the concrete pit wall, rebounded back on the track and was hit by Yuki Tsunoda and Esteban Ocon, damaging both of their cars. Tsunoda and Ocon both returned to the pit lane for repairs, but Albon was unable to continue. Russell, who had spun, stopped to help the marshalls with Zhou's flipped car. When he returned to his car it was not running so he could not continue.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy P8HWD6 - Bloodhound LSR, formerly Bloodhound SSC, is a British land vehicle designed to travel at supersonic speeds with the intention of setting a new world land speed record. The arrow-shaped car, under development since 2008, is powered by a jet engine and will be fitted with an additional rocket engine. The initial goal is to exceed the current speed record of 763 mph (1,228 km/h), with the vehicle believed to be able to achieve up to 1,000 miles per hour (1,609 km/h).
Driver Andy Green will attempt to break his own record, set in 1997. The previous business behind Project Bloodhound went into administration (bankruptcy) in late 2018. Entrepreneur Ian Warhurst bought the car to keep the project alive. A new company called Grafton LSR Ltd was formed to manage the project, which was renamed Bloodhound LSR and moved to SGS Berkeley Green University Technical College. Lack of funds and the COVID-19 pandemic stalled progress in 2020, and in 2021 the vehicle was offered for sale.
The venue for high speed testing and future world land speed record attempts is the Hakskeen Pan in the Mier area of the Northern Cape, South Africa. An area 12 miles (19 km) long and 3 miles (4.8 km) wide was identified as suitable, with the first runs in October 2019. Further runs in November 2019 achieved a top speed of 628 miles per hour (1,011 km/h), the eighth vehicle to attain a land speed of over 600 miles per hour (970 km/h).

A number I picked up in a hotel some weeks ago. Sixty Nine is the aliquot sum of sixty-nine is 27 within the aliquot sequence (69,27,13,1,0) 69 being the third composite number in the 13-aliquot tree.
69 is a semiprime. Furthermore, since the two factors of 69 are both Gaussian primes, 69 is a Blum integer. Adding up the divisors of 1 through 9 gives 69.
Because 69 has an odd number of 1s in its binary representation, it is sometimes called an 'odious number.' Of note is that 69² (4 761) and 69³ (328 509) together use every decimal digit from 0-9. 69 is equal to 105 octal, while 105 is equal to 69 hexadecimal. This same property can be applied to all numbers from 64 to 69.
On many handheld scientific and graphing calculators, the highest factorial that can be calculated, due to memory limitations, is 69!
Sixtynine is the atomic number of thulium, a lanthanide, also the number of the French department Rhône and last possible television channel number in the UHF bandplan for American terrestrial television from 1982 until its withdrawal on December 31, 2011.
Wikipedia tells me too that soixante-neuf (69), is a group of sex positions in which two people align themselves so that each person's mouth is near the other's genitals, simultaneously performing oral sex. The participants are thus mutually inverted like the numerals 6 and 9 in the number 69, hence the name. Wikipedia helpfully adds that 'The position can also be awkward for partners who are not similar in height'. Quite!

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4461061644 - 'Pictured here are twin racing drivers David and Godfrey Jones who won the GT3 title during the final race of the 2009 Avon Tyres British GT season. This was taken at the Oulton Park track while getting ready for the 2010 season that starts easter weekend, april 4th. the season ends at Donnington October 17th 2010.
Again for the 2010 season, the twins will be competing in the Ascari KZ1-R Chassis BMW M62 5.0L V8.
In 2009 the twins were very successful, competing in all rounds. They were winning drivers at Knockhill (June 13th), Snetterton (July 4th), Brands Hatch (September 19th). They were top of the GT3 table with 87 points, overall winners in the year.
They are a lovely couple of chaps and I will be cheering them on this coming season, to show those young lads how its done!

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4404609984 - 'This is an old slide I came across last week taken in early 1988 when the Aces original stadium on Hyde Road was being demolished. Travelling to work at my first job at GEC Higher openshaw (The Go Easy Club as it was known by some), I used to catch a 53 bus by it every morning. At the time it appeared to have an uncertain future, similar to the fate of the Belle Vue zoo &
amusement park. I remember passing the two giant giraffes on the 125 SELNEC bus as a very small kid. The giraffes ended up at a caravan park west of Glossop in Brookfield, quite close to where I grew up. I cannot say I have been past for some time so could not really say on the giraffe condition.
Racing started in 1928 at the Belle Vue greyhound stadium before moving the following year to a specially built stadium nearby on Hyde Road. The club raced there until 1987 when the stadium was sold and demolished.
The club moved to a just a short distance away to a new track and is still there today. Manchesters Aces moved back to the Greyhound Stadium, under the promotion of Peter Collins, John Perrin and Don Bowes. On the opening meeting of the new chapter of the the Aces history was held 1st April 1988. The Aces took on Bradford Dukes in the Frank Varey Northern Trophy. Unfortunately because of a waterlogged track the match was abandoned after just two heats. The Aces finished leading the match.
If you have the chance nip down on a Monday night and breath in over 80 years of racing history.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JFW2KB - A dramatic on-track accident scene at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit in July 2022, Northamptonshire, England, as FIA race marshals and medical staff move in on a first-lap incident involving driver Zhou Guanyu. The image shows the immediate emergency response on the tarmac, with an emergency ambulance, medical response cars and support vehicles positioned close to the stopped Formula One car while officials, crew and marshals gather around the incident area. A packed covered grandstand is filled with spectators and racing fans watching through the safety fencing, capturing the scale of a live Grand Prix crowd scene during a high-profile motorsport emergency. Trackside advertising boards in red, including Lenovo branding, line the straight, while the modern pit building and hospitality structures rise behind the stands.
This editorial photograph highlights the operational reality of modern F1 safety procedures: rapid deployment by trained marshals in high-visibility kit, controlled access to the racing line, and coordinated medical attendance while the session is neutralised under safety car and incident management protocols. The presence of rescue personnel, response vehicles and circuit officials demonstrates the layered approach to risk management in elite racing, from track marshals to medical response and race control. Shot in bright British summer daylight under a partly cloudy sky, the scene contrasts the festival atmosphere of the British Grand Prix weekend with the calm, methodical work of emergency teams. It is a clear illustration of why motorsport safety, crash response planning, crowd control and circuit infrastructure are central to Formula 1, alongside speed, competition and sporting spectacle. The scene also suits keywords such as Zhou Guanyu crash, Alfa Romeo incident, British GP 2022, Formula One World Championship, emergency services, paramedics, grandstands, spectators and track safety at Silverstone.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy P8HWD1 - Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas images on flags, Silverstone circuit, Northampton, British Grand Prix 2018, England, UK gives a direct editorial record of a recognisable subject, with location, signage, architecture or everyday behaviour carrying much of the meaning. The scene records a specific piece of everyday place-based detail, the sort of subject that often says more about local identity, work, leisure, transport or consumption than a polished landmark view would. Its value is in the recognisable setting, readable clues and documentary directness, making it useful for editorial coverage of changing streets, public services, heritage, retail habits and ordinary life in Britain and beyond. The location detail, Silverstone, strengthens searches for regional features, travel pages, local-history pieces and news use where a named place matters. Relevant editorial themes include Formula One, British Grand Prix, Silverstone and motorsport, with each theme rooted in the visible subject, place or activity. For buyers, the strength lies in the combination of a named subject, a lived-in setting and enough visual specificity to carry stories about how places are used, remembered, funded, visited or contested.
