Jones wrote the surrealist, partially biographical novel Where Do Comedians Go When They Die?: Journeys of a Stand-Up (2009)
Jones was born and raised in Kew, London. His father is from South Wales. He attended Middlesex Polytechnic, gaining a diploma in dramatic art in 1985. He married Caroline Church in 1986 and they have three children. They live in the St Margarets area of Richmond upon Thames in London. He supports Arsenal.
Jones is a practising Christian and often performs in churches and at Christian festivals.
He is a patron of the charity Chance for Childhood

In 1939, Fields suffered a breakdown and went to Capri to recuperate. World War II was declared while she was recovering in Capri, and Fields ? still very ill after her cancer surgery ? threw herself into her work and signed up for the Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA) headed by her old film producer, Basil Dean. Fields travelled to France to entertain the troops in the midst of air-raids, performing on the backs of open lorries and in war-torn areas. During the war, she also paid for all servicemen and women to travel free on public transport within the boundaries of Rochdale
She continued to spend much of her time entertaining troops and otherwise supporting the war effort outside Britain
On 3 October 2009, the final train to run on the Oldham Loop before it closed to be converted to a tramway, a Class 156, was named in her honour. In September 2016, a statue of Fields was unveiled outside Rochdale Town Hall

The London safe works moved to Wednesfield Road in Wolverhampton in 1908 and when the site was extended in 1938, it was joined by the lock works.

Its plan is slightly asymmetric with end pavilions flanking a shallow crescent. There was previously a police station within the northern half of the building adjacent to the Magistrates' Court. This has been converted to offices although the former cells are still used for holding those facing transfer to prison or awaiting appearances before the court. The building has a steel frame faced in sandstone ashlar with parapets and a slate roof. It has three central arches accessing Cheadle Square. The Civic Buildings are Grade II listed. A ?3.7m project to transform Bolton library will see the children's area treble in size and a new caf?? built. In December 2021 Bolton was offered up to ?22M of town's fund' government cash in order to ?level up' and regenerate town centres.
Bolton Council's planning committee unanimously approved the final plans for the listed Le Mans Crescent building. The work, which will include the installation of a mezzanine floor in the building, is expected to begin in September and take around a year to complete.

The murals now adorning the Liverpool Royal Court were commissioned by The Comedy Trust and created by the artist Paul Curtis, best known for his Liverbird wings mural.
Lady Anne Dodd ? who performed the emotional ceremony ? told the ECHO: They are just amazing, absolutely amazing. I'm humbled. I'm thrilled to bits. I woke up sad this morning because it's a sad day in one way, but this just shows he brought happiness.
Ken would have felt humbled ? he would have said it was tattyfilarious, plumptious and ?I'm totally discomknockerated!'

This Tudor building on Church Street, Warrington is one of the town's oldest and most famous landmarks.
Here, we take a look at its centuries of fascinating history.
The grade two-listed building now houses an Indian restaurant ? aptly named the Cottage ? which opened following a lengthy, National Trust approved renovation of the premises in the early noughties.
Whilst frequently referred to as Cromwell's Cottage, Oliver Cromwell is only thought to have stayed the night at the now demolished General Wolf close by on August 20, 1648.
However, the cottage is where he sent dispatches proclaiming victories over Scottish Royalists during battles at Preston, Winwick and Warrington itself.
Today, a plaque commemorates that fact ? with Cromwell's victory at the Battle of Winwick Pass leading to the surrender of Scots forces on August 25.
The defeat of Royalist armies in the north of England ultimately hastened the end of the second English Civil War, and led to the execution of Charles I in January 1649.
It is believed that the cottage dates back to roughly the 16th century, according to a 2007 Warrington Borough Council report ? which states that the building was constructed in a ?late medieval style' after the road's original middle-age structures were destroyed.
Similar characteristics can be attributed to the other Tudor cottages on Church Street, with the nearby Bull's Head and Marquis of Granby pubs remaining as the street's oldest surviving buildings

Hillcrest House, in Walton Road, Stockton Heath, where ukulele playing George once lived with his dad ? also an entertainer ? has been refurbished and has become a small business centre run by Warrington-based Purple Accounts.
The house was the Formby family home from 1917 and it was from there that George launched his show business career. It had a brief existence as a boutique hotel, which opened in 2013, when it was also recognised with a blue plaque.
Now it has been comprehensively and sympathetically refurbished by the owner but is still filled with iconic images of Formby, who was at one time credited with being the highest-paid star in UK show business.
There's even a replica of the No 14 motorbike that Formby rode in his 1939 movie No Limits based on the TT races in the Isle of Man ? where, coincidentally, the first Purple Accounts office opened in 2007.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2ABJGFE - The Evening Citizen, was an evening version of the Glasgow Citizen (a daily newspaper founded in 1842) and was first published in August 1864. Founded by James Hedderwick, a University of London dropout, the publication became one of Glasgow's most successful newspapers. The newspaper moved to our address on St Vincent Place in 1889, in a specially commission building designed to accommodate the offices and printing presses.
The building itself is of architectural significance, it took four years to build and was the first red sandstone building in the city at the time. It was designed by T L Watson in Dutch Renaissance style with 6 asymmetric bays. The elaborate stone carvings were by James Hendry who was a draftsman to Watson at the time. It was also one of the first buildings in the city to be fully electric, with the newspaper quick to link to the Waterloo Street power station built in 1892. It is listed Category A in Scotland.
Hedderwick's success allowed him to move on to establish other evening newspapers throughout the UK, most notably the London Echo. The Citizen comprised of a daily edition, an evening edition and a weekly supplement. In 1881, Hedderwick was granted an honorary doctorate from the University of Glasgow. We opened as The Citizen in September 2017 and have become a new part of the history of Glasgow.

A lifelong resident of Knotty Ash in Liverpool, Dodd's career as an entertainer started in the mid-1950s. His performances included rapid and incessant delivery of often surreal jokes, and would run for several hours, frequently past midnight. His verbal and physical comedy was supplemented by his red, white and blue tickling stick prop, and often introduced by his characteristic upbeat greeting of How tickled I am! He interspersed the comedy with songs, both serious and humorous, and with his original speciality, ventriloquism. He also had several hit singles primarily as a ballad singer in the 1960s, and occasionally appeared in dramatic roles. He performed on radio and television, and popularised the characters of the Diddy Men.
Dodd was described as the last great music hall entertainer.[14] His stand-up comedy style was fast and relied on the rapid delivery of one-liner jokes. The disaster occurred at a football match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. Ninety-seven Liverpool supporters were crushed to death, and several hundred others were injured, due to negligence by the South Yorkshire Police. On 19 April 1989, four days after the incident, The Sun published a front-page story with the headline The Truth containing a number of falsehoods alleging that Liverpool supporters were responsible for the accident.

Having previously worked as a professional goldsmith, Gutenberg made skillful use of the knowledge of metals he had learned as a craftsman. He was the first to make type from an alloy of lead, tin, and antimony, which was critical for producing durable type that produced high-quality printed books and proved to be much better suited for printing than all other known materials. To create these lead types, Gutenberg used what is considered one of his most ingenious inventions, a special matrix enabling the quick and precise molding of new type blocks from a uniform template. His type case is estimated to have contained around 290 separate letter boxes, most of which were required for special characters, ligatures, punctuation marks, and so forth.
Gutenberg is also credited with the introduction of an oil-based ink which was more durable than the previously used water-based inks. As printing material he used both paper and vellum (high-quality parchment). In the Gutenberg Bible, Gutenberg made a trial of coloured printing for a few of the page headings, present only in some copies. A later work, the Mainz Psalter of 1453, presumably designed by Gutenberg but published under the imprint of his successors Johann Fust and Peter Sch??ffer, had elaborate red and blue printed initials.

Belfast and Derry contain arguably the most famous political murals in Europe. It is believed that almost 2,000 murals have been documented since the 1970s. In 2014, the book, The Belfast Mural Guide estimated that, in Belfast, there were approximately 300 quality murals on display, with many more in varying degrees of age and decay. Murals commemorate, communicate and display aspects of culture and history. The themes of murals often reflect what is important to a particular community. A mural therefore exists to express an idea or message and could generally be seen as reflecting values held dear to that community.
In Irish republican areas the themes of murals can range from the 1981 Irish hunger strike, with particular emphasis on strike leader Bobby Sands
murals of international solidarity with revolutionary groups are equally common, as are those which highlight a particular issue, for example the Ballymurphy Massacre or the McGurk's Bar bombing. In working class unionist communities, murals are used to promote Ulster loyalist paramilitary groups such as the Ulster Defence Association and Ulster Volunteer Force and commemorate their deceased members. SELF-made Manchester mosaicist Mark Kennedy has had seven mosaic art pieces installed on Tib Street along the wall of Affleck's Palace. The colourful and cracked pieces feature the likes of Eric Cantona, Colin Bell, Karl Marx, Morrissey, Ian Brown, Emmeline Pankhurst, Bet Lynch and many other 'legends' associated with Manchester.
In total Kennedy has spent almost 20 years crafting the two sets of mosaics amongst other on-going work. The theme on Affleck's is Manchester heroes, with a nod given the shopping bazaar's rock'n'roll past. Thus among the great figures of Manchester depicted there are musicians, actors, media and radical politicians.
He also couldn't help including something from his own Manchester memories of Tib Street.
When I was a little kid I used to go to Tib Street all the time to get my ferrets and buy mice from a little pet shop and that's where we all used to go. Next door was Tib Street Joke Shop that used to sell masks and stink bombs so there's one piece that represents all that.
You have to have a closer look at some of the new mosaics to fully appreciate them with some of them holding a few hidden surprises. Kennedy's take on Joy Division's classic Unknown Pleasures album cover features several tiny coloured tile fragments to set it apart from the now iconic original.

On a very damp day in Manchester, surveyors, solicitors, Peel employees and MediaCityUK occupiers including ITV, BBC, Nuffield Health and WYG turned out to race in three gripping head-to-head heats which culminated in an exciting grand finale.
Before the racing began, the guests were treated to a canap?? reception in Damson MediaCityUK overlooking the piazza.
The weary but triumphant team from dock10, the studio operators, were presented with the glass trophy, medals and champagne and then celebrated with all the other participants and other participants at On the 7th, a private members bar located in the Blue Tower at MediaCityUK.
The losing team of local SMEs which included the Rugby Football League, Carbon Digital and Glue were presented with the wooden paddle award and a jovial hint to try harder next year.
The aim of the event was to raise awareness of the on-going activity at the vibrant MediaCityUK destination and all it offers, from offices to restaurants, retail and leisure in an impressive waterside location.
Liza Marco, Property Manager at Peel said, Peel's first Dragon Boat Racing Event at MediaCityUK was a huge success and it was a pleasure to see over 250 people take part in a fun, networking event which showcased MediaCityUK's amenities. We decided to hold an event at MediaCityUK following two successful Dragon Boat Events A Division of at Peel's Princes Dock development in Liverpool. its principal tenants are media organisations and the University of Salford. The land occupied by the development was part of the Port of Manchester and Manchester Docks.
The BBC signalled its intention to move jobs to Manchester in 2004, and the Salford Quays site was chosen in 2006. The Peel Group was granted planning permission to develop the site in 2007, and construction of the development, with its own energy generation plant and communications network, began the same year. Based in Quay House, the principal tenant is the BBC, whose move marks a large-scale decentralisation from London. ITV Granada completed the first phase of its move to MediaCityUK on 25 March 2013, followed in two stages by the northern arm of ITV Studios: the second stage involved Coronation Street being moved to a new production facility on Trafford Wharf next to the Imperial War Museum North at the end of 2013. The Studios on Broadway houses seven high-definition studios, claimed to be the largest such facility in Europe.
MediaCityUK is to be developed in two phases. The 36-acre (15 ha) first phase was completed in 2011, and the second is dependent on its success. Metrolink, Greater Manchester's light-rail system, was extended to MediaCityUK with the opening of the MediaCityUK tram stop on 20 September 2010 and further extensions are planned. Road access was improved by the construction of the Broadway Link Road.

It was first published as the Belfast Evening Telegraph on 1 September 1870 by brothers William and George Baird. Its first edition cost half a penny and ran to four pages covering the Franco-Prussian war and local news.
The evening edition of the newspaper was originally called the Sixth Late, and Sixth Late Tele was a familiar cry made by vendors in Belfast City Centre in the past.
Its competitors are The News Letter and The Irish News but the local editions of the London-based red tops are also competitors, selling at a cheaper price than the 'Tele'.
The Belfast Telegraph was entirely broadsheet until 19 February 2005, when the Saturday morning edition was introduced and all Saturday editions were converted to compact. The weekday morning Compact Edition, launched on 22 March 2005, struggled to replicate the evening newspaper's success. Its editorial content has been much more tabloid, with a greater entertainment story count than the evening paper. Much prominence is given to English-based sport, and some general features and columns are shared with The Independent and Irish Independent.
The paper now publishes two editions daily, Belfast Telegraph final edition and the North West Telegraph which is distributed in Derry.

Built by the Manchester Ship Canal Company, Salford Docks was the larger of two that made up Manchester Docks, the other being Pomona Docks to the east, which opened in 1903.[1] They were opened in 1894 by Queen Victoria and spanned 120 acres (49 ha) of water and 1,000 acres (400 ha) of land. At their height, the Manchester Docks was the third-busiest port in Britain, but after containerisation and the limit placed on vessel size on the Manchester Ship Canal, the docks declined in the 1970s. They closed in 1982, resulting in the loss of 3,000 jobs.
In 1983, Salford City Council acquired parts of the docks covering 220 acres (90 ha) from the Manchester Ship Canal Company with the aid of a derelict land grant. The area was rebranded as Salford Quays and redevelopment by Urban Waterside began in 1985 under the Salford Quays Development Plan.
Early in the planning stages for redevelopment of Salford Quays in 1988, potential was recognised for a landmark arts venue, the Salford Quays Centre for the Performing Arts, which became known as the Lowry Project in 1994. It had secured ?64 million in funding by 22 February 1996.
The Lowry stands at the end of Pier 8, largely surrounded by the waters of the Manchester Ship Canal. Designed by James Stirling and Michael Wilford, it opened on 28 April 2000 and houses the 1,730 seat Lyric theatre, the 466 seat Quays theatre, studio spaces and 17,330 sq ft (1,610 m2) of gallery space. There are cafes, bars and a restaurant at the south-western end of the building. The centre is associated with L. S. Lowry, and houses a collection of his work

The initial proposals were for two theatres and an art gallery on a prominent site on Pier 8.
Between 1990 and 1991 a competition was launched and architects James Stirling Michael Wilford Associates was selected. After the death of James Stirling in June 1992 Michael Wilford continued the project.
The city council bid for Millennium and other British and European funds and private sector finance to progress the project. Funding was secured in 1996 and The Lowry Trust became responsible for the project which comprised The Lowry Centre, the plaza, a footbridge, a retail outlet shopping mall and Digital World Centre. The National Lottery provided over ?21 million of funding towards its construction. The project was completed in 1999 at a cost of ?106 million. The Lowry name was adopted in honour of the local artist, L. S. Lowry.
The complex is close to the Imperial War Museum North and the Old Trafford football stadium. It is served by the MediaCityUK stop on the Metrolink tram network. The Salford Quays lift bridge or Salford Quays Millennium footbridge is a 91.2-metre long vertical lift bridge bridge spanning the Manchester Ship Canal in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. The bridge, which was completed in 2000, is near the terminus of the ship canal at the old Manchester Docks. It links Salford Quays to MediaCityUK and has a lift of 18 metres, allowing large watercraft to pass beneath.
The bridge features prominently on the backdrop for the BBC North West Tonight television news programme, which also shows The Lowry and MediaCityUK.

Imperial Point was the first of the high-rise residential buildings on the Quays: a 16-storey tower built alongside the Lowry Outlet Mall on Pier 8 (Central Wharf) in 2001. Finished in sand-coloured cladding with grey and steel finishes to the roof, service cores and balconies, the lower levels are integrated into the mall.
Sovereign Point is the sister building of Imperial Point, towards the rear of the Lowry Outlet Mall. Completed in 2005, its 20 stories are residential, except for some commercial units at ground level, including Sovereign Food and Wine, the Quays' first grocery store. The tower's design was controversial and regarded as having a poor aesthetic on all but the water-facing elevation and is in stark relief to the neighbouring low-rise Winnipeg Quay.
The NV Buildings were designed by Broadway Maylan and completed between 2004 and 2005. The development consists of three 18-storey residential towers, each 180 feet (55 m) in height. Costing ?36 million, they stand in a line overlooking Huron Basin from the waterside of Pier 9 (North Wharf), their curved frontages are designed to represent sails. At night, the buildings are illuminated by green lights atop curved poles, and green flood light to either side. The City Lofts construction began in 2005 and completed in late 2007. The development consists of two linked towers: one 9 stories, the other 19 stories. MediaCityUK is a 200-acre (81 ha) mixed-use property development site on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal in Salford and Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. The project is being developed by Peel Media, and its principal tenants are media organisations and the University of Salford. The land occupied by the development was part of the Port of Manchester and Manchester Docks.
The BBC signalled its intention to move jobs to Manchester in 2004, and the Salford Quays site was chosen in 2006. The Peel Group was granted planning permission to develop the site in 2007, and construction of the development, with its own energy generation plant and communications network, began the same year. Based in Quay House, the principal tenant is the BBC, whose move marks a large-scale decentralisation from London. BBC Children's, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Research and BBC Sport are among the departments which have relocated to the development. ITV Granada completed the first phase of its move to MediaCityUK in March 2013. The Studios on Broadway house seven high-definition studios, claimed to be the largest such facility in Europe.
MediaCityUK is to be developed in two phases. The 36-acre (15 ha) first phase was completed in 2011, and the second is dependent on its success. Metrolink, Greater Manchester's light-rail system, was extended to MediaCityUK with the opening of the MediaCityUK Metrolink station on 20 September 2010 and further extensions are planned. Designed by Carlos Fernandez Casado, the bridge has a main span of 91.2 metres in a Lohse Arch, with the peaks of the twin arches connected at the crown. These brace one another, resulting in greater structural rigidity. The deck is connected to the arches with vertical members, which splay outwards at an increasing angle towards the centre of the span. The sweeping arches are decorated with coloured LED lighting, while the deck is illuminated with white downlighting. Pedestrians are protected from the prevailing winds by glass sides, coloured blue at foot level and tapering in, following the angle of the arches.

Punched cards, and chains of punched cards, were used for control of looms in the 18th century. Use for telegraphy systems started in 1842. Punched tape was used throughout the 19th and for much of the 20th centuries for programmable looms, teleprinter communication, for input to computers of the 1950s and 1960s, and later as a storage medium for minicomputers and CNC machine tools. During the Second World War, high-speed punched tape systems using optical readout methods were used in code breaking systems. Punched tape was used to transmit data for manufacture of read-only memory chips.
Data was represented by the presence or absence of a hole at a particular location. Tapes originally had five rows of holes for data across the width of the tape. Later tapes had six, seven, or eight rows. A 1944 electro-mechanical programmable calculating machine, the Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator or Harvard Mark I, used paper tape with 24 rows.
A row of smaller sprocket holes was always punched to be used to synchronize tape movement. Originally, this was done using a wheel with radial teeth called a sprocket wheel. Later, optical readers made use of the sprocket holes to generate timing pulses. The sprocket holes were slightly closer to one edge of the tape, dividing the tape into unequal widths, to make it unambiguous which way to orient the tape in the reader.
Tape for punching was usually 0.00394 inches (0.100 mm) thick. The two most common widths were 11?16 inch (17 mm) for five bit codes, and 1 inch (25 mm) for tapes with six or more bits. Hole spacing was 0.1 inches (2.5 mm) in both directions. Data holes were 0.072 inches (1.8 mm) in diameter

A light rail system for Greater Manchester was borne of Greater Manchester County Council's obligations to provide an integrated and efficient system of public transport under its structure plan and the Transport Act 1968. Greater Manchester's public transport network suffered from poor north?south connections, exacerbated by the location of Manchester's main railway stations, Piccadilly and Victoria, which were unconnected and lay at opposite edges of central Manchester. Abandoning the monorail and underground options conceived in the 1960s and 1970s, light rail was proposed in 1982 as the best and most economical public transport solution for Manchester city centre and the surrounding Greater Manchester metropolitan area, and gathered support throughout the 1980s as an appropriate integrated commuter service.
Government approval was granted in 1988 and the network began operating services between Bury Interchange and Victoria on 6 April 1992. This founded the United Kingdom's first modern street-running rail system and its second operational public tram system, the 1885-built Blackpool tramway being the only heritage tram system in the UK that had endured up to Metrolink's creation.
