Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3DCX6GX - A vertical street banner displayed on a lamppost in Manchester city centre, promoting Oasis Live '25, a run of major outdoor concerts by the Manchester band Oasis at Heaton Park, Sheepfoot Lane, Manchester M25 2SW, England. The banner features black-and-white portraits of band members Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher, alongside the official MCR Live '25 branding used across the city for large-scale summer music events.
The Oasis concerts, scheduled for 11, 12, 16, 19 and 20 July 2025, mark the band's first live performances together in many years and have attracted significant national and international attention. Heaton Park, one of Europe's largest municipal parks, has previously hosted landmark performances by major global artists and is closely associated with Manchester's live-music identity.
The image reflects Manchester's continued promotion of its musical heritage and its role as a major UK destination for live music tourism. Photographed in daylight conditions, the scene shows the banner within the urban streetscape, emphasising the city's cultural branding and anticipation surrounding one of the most high-profile British music reunions of the decade.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3BR174A - A brightly coloured street art mural featuring a large flaming heart with the words Love is a burning thing painted across its centre, photographed in Liverpool city centre, England. The heart is rendered in vivid reds, oranges, and yellows, surrounded by stylised flames that contrast strongly against the dark blue wall behind it.
The mural combines romantic imagery with bold graphic design, using simple lettering and high-impact colour to create an instantly recognisable visual statement. The phrase Love is a burning thing echoes well-known cultural and musical references, adding a layer of familiarity and emotional resonance for passers-by.
Liverpool has a strong tradition of public street art and murals, particularly in central areas associated with nightlife, music venues, and independent businesses. Works like this contribute to the city's visual identity, turning everyday urban spaces into informal galleries and popular photo locations for residents and visitors alike.
This image is suitable for editorial use illustrating street art in Liverpool, contemporary urban culture, public murals, romantic symbolism in art, city-centre regeneration, and the role of creative expression in modern British cities.

It all started when it was realised that Victoria Primary School in Newhaven on the northern outskirts of Edinburgh needed to expand and the decision was taken to build a new school.
Now we're almost three years down the line and the dream of converting the site containing the Victorian building into a brand new intergenerational centre for the whole community to enjoy, is nearing completion.
We've consulted with the community to find out what they want.
We've set up a SCIO, The Heart of Newhaven Community SCIO SCO49919 a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation. Constitution is here.
We have a board of trustees. We have members who will take the decisions moving into the future. See your board and consultants here.
We've passed the Community Asset Transfer test with Edinburgh City Council and been given permission to purchase the site. The Scottish Land fund have given us the Funds to buy the building.
NEWHAVEN IS A COMMUNITY WITH A HEART
Pulsating with energy is Victoria Primary School, full of children who in 2022 moved across Lindsay Road to a new site to pursue dreams for the future.
This iconic building and its annexe deserve be an asset for the whole community of Newhaven “young and old, long-time residents and those newly moved here: everybody who wants to have a place to enjoy activities that can't yet find a space in Newhaven.
Newhaven has a distinct identity.
Its rapidly increasing population and range of activities is crying out for a focal point to express our sense of community life, especially to help those in greatest need of care and well-being.
The Heart of Newhaven was chosen as a name for the proposed centre, and the campaign to keep this building for the community, because:
it is in the centre of 'Greater Newhaven' (old and new combined)
because a community space for everyone is what keeps the community heart in Newhaven for the future.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2REGJ73 - Four rusted padlocks bearing handwritten personal names are attached to a metal fence at Newhaven Harbour in Edinburgh. Commonly known as love locks, such padlocks are left as informal symbols of affection, friendship or commitment, drawing on a modern urban tradition found in cities and waterfronts across Europe.
The weathered metal, corrosion from sea air and proximity to the harbour water emphasise the contrast between permanence and fragility that often underpins the symbolism of love locks. While sometimes controversial in public spaces, they also function as small personal markers, embedding private stories into shared environments.
Photographed in close-up, the image documents a contemporary social ritual within a historic harbour setting. It is suitable for editorial use relating to romance, urban folklore, travel culture, relationships, and the ways individuals leave traces of meaning in public landscapes. The practice of attaching love locks to bridges, fences and railings is a relatively modern urban ritual that has spread rapidly across cities and tourist destinations, particularly in Europe, since the early 2000s. Couples or friends mark a padlock with names or initials and fasten it to a public structure as a symbolic gesture of commitment, permanence or shared memory, often discarding the key as a sign that the bond is meant to endure. Although the origins are loosely traced to southern Europe and popularised by travel and social media, the custom has been repeatedly reinvented in different places, from famous bridges to working harbours and quiet neighbourhood walkways. The phenomenon sits at an uneasy intersection of romance and public space: for some it represents a democratic, personal form of expression embedded in the city, while for others it raises concerns about visual clutter, safety, and damage to historic infrastructure. As a result, love locks have become not just symbols of private affection, but also markers

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K0KDG6 - Penny Lane is a road in the south Liverpool suburb of Mossley Hill. The name also applies to the area surrounding its junction with Smithdown Road and Allerton Road, and to the roundabout at Smithdown Place that was the location for a major bus terminus, originally an important tram junction of Liverpool Corporation Tramways. The roundabout was a frequent stopping place for John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison during their years as schoolchildren and students. Bus journeys via Penny Lane and the area itself subsequently became familiar elements in the early years of the Lennon“McCartney songwriting partnership. In 2009, McCartney reflected:
Penny Lane was kind of nostalgic, but it was really [about] a place that John and I knew ... I'd get a bus to his house and I'd have to change at Penny Lane, or the same with him to me, so we often hung out at that terminus, like a roundabout. It was a place that we both knew, and so we both knew the things that turned up in the story.
Lennon's original lyrics for In My Life had included a reference to Penny Lane. Soon after the Beatles recorded In My Life in October 1965, McCartney mentioned to an interviewer that he wanted to write a song about Penny Lane. A year later, he was spurred to write the song once presented with Lennon's Strawberry Fields Forever. McCartney also cited Dylan Thomas's nostalgic poem Fern Hill as an inspiration for Penny Lane. Lennon co-wrote the lyrics with McCartney. He recalled in a 1970 interview: The bank was there, and that was where the trams sheds were and people waiting and the inspector stood there, the fire engines were down there. It was reliving childhood

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K0KX8B - Penny Lane is a song by the English rock band the Beatles that was released in February 1967 as a double A-side single with Strawberry Fields Forever. It was written primarily by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon“McCartney songwriting partnership. The lyrics refer to Penny Lane, a street in Liverpool, and make mention of the sights and characters that McCartney recalled from his upbringing in the city.
The Beatles began recording Penny Lane in December 1966, intending it as a song for their album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Instead, after it was issued as a single to satisfy record company demand for a new release, the band adhered to their policy of omitting previously released singles from their albums. The song features numerous modulations that occur mid-verse and between its choruses. Session musician David Mason played a piccolo trumpet solo for its bridge section

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JRJ9RG - Central Pier is one of three piers in the town of Blackpool, England, and was built in 1868.
The pier is central in that it is located between the other two, but it was close to the site of the now-defunct Blackpool Central railway station about 550 yards south of Blackpool Tower. Since the coastline is very straight and flat, the pier simply extends at right angles to the sea front, roughly level with the promenade.
The success of the North Pier prompted the formation of the Blackpool South Jetty Company one year later in 1864. Impressed with the construction of Blackpool Pier (North Pier), the company hired the same contractor, Richard Laidlaw and Son of Glasgow for the project. This time, however, the company used the designs of Lieutenant-Colonel John Isaac Mawson rather than those of Eugenius Birch. When the pier was opened on 30 May 1868, it was 503 yards in length, 131 yards of which was a landing jetty for use at low tide. The first manager of the pier was Robert Bickerstaffe, coxswain of the first Blackpool lifeboat. Blackpool's lifeboat station is located next to Central Pier.
From the start, the new pier's emphasis was on fun rather than the genteel relaxation provided at North Pier. In the early days fun was provided mainly by dancing facilities, but in the 20th century, roller skating was introduced along with fairground rides and amusement machines. Steamboat excursions departed from the landing jetty as they did from North Pier. The dance halls became less popular after the Second World War and the facilities were adapted into a theatre, bars and amusement arcades by the 1970s

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JRJ9RM - Xavier Petulengro (8 July 1878 - 16 June 1957), more often known as Gipsy Petulengro, was a British Romanichal horse trader, violinist, businessman, writer and broadcaster, known as the King of the Gypsies. He frequently broadcast on BBC radio in the 1930s and 1940s, and later wrote regular astrology columns in magazines as well as publishing his autobiography and several books on Romani lore.
Life
Details of his birth and childhood are uncertain. Sources suggest that he was born in Rochdale, Lancashire, to a Romani family, and probably lived for part of his childhood near Galaţi in Romania, where his father traded Welsh ponies. He also used the family names Walter Lloyd and Walter Smith. According to his own autobiography, he was the grandson of Ambrose Smith (c.1804-1878), known as Jasper Petulengro, the semi-fictionalised subject of the books Lavengro and Romany Rye by George Borrow. In order to support this connection he antedated his birth to 1859. The name 'Petulengro', comes from the Sanskrit 'Petul' meaning horseshoe and 'Engro' from the Romani meaning man or thing, hence 'Blacksmith'.
Unusually among Gypsies at the time, he learned to read and write, later claiming that this was due to the assistance of Admiral Arthur Wilson VC of the Royal Navy and his sister, but also with the help of a farmer's wife, Martha Clark, in Whitehaven, Cumberland, where the family spent several winters. As a young man he followed his father into the horse-trading business, and also served in the British army, allegedly signing up after getting involved in a fight with a gamekeeper.
In the 1920s, when living in Manchester, he was invited to help re-establish a tradition of Gypsy parties at Baildon in Yorkshire, which had taken place in the area for several centuries but which had died out after 1897. In 1929 the annual parties were revived, with 'real' Gypsies attending alongside local people dressed up in costume

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JH06KJ - Initiated by The Pete Shelley Memorial Campaign, the new 200msq mural sits at the heart of the late punk rocker's hometown.
Huge new mural of punk rock singer and guitarist Pete Shelley has appeared in Leigh, Greater Manchester
Created in tribute to the late punk rock icon, it sits in the heart of the community where he was born and grew up and still has family today.
Based on the cover of The Buzzcocks' 1978 single Ever Fallen In Love and a portrait of Shelley, created by artist Chris Gabrin in the same year, it's been designed by artists Malcolm Garrett and Akse P19.
The latter is well known in the city for his photo-realistic portraits of pop culture icons, and his work is often seen popping up in prime locations across Manchester.
Situated close to Leigh Town Hall and the historic Turnpike Centre, the new mural is Akse's biggest yet “ sitting smack bang in the heart of Leigh. Initiated by The Pete Shelley Memorial Campaign, it has taken over three years of fundraising in order to complete the project.
At a whopping 200 meters squared, it's not an easy one to miss if you're in the area and has taken around a week to complete “ with the finishing touches, including a final coat of protective varnish, being applied by the street artist this afternoon.
Whilst the artwork has been unfolding over the past week, locals have had some fun trying to guess who it might be “ with Akse posting a range of updates to his social media showing the piece at various stages of completion
Pete was always incredibly proud of his northern roots, and we hope that the mural will help Pete's legacy live on and inspire more young artists and musicians to break down barriers and follow their dreams

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AE02K4 - It is arguably the most divisive food-related debate: the question of whether pineapple is an appropriate pizza topping is a controversial one.
But are a few chunks of tangy pineapple on a pizza really so bad? It doesn't seem possible considering pineapple made it to the list of 10 most popular pizza toppings. (Although it only makes the ninth spot, just ahead of spinach.)
To get to the bottom of this debate and decide on a winning side once and for all, we reached out to pizza chefs across the US for their opinions on the appropriateness of pineapple. As the gatekeepers to pizza, we felt they must have a good grasp of what constitutes an acceptable pizza topping.
In a somewhat surprising turn of events, it seems that many pizza chefs, even the old-school Italian ones, have given in to the requests of the masses.
As it turns out, the customer is always right, as the saying goes, even when it comes irreverent requests such as pineapple on traditional pizza.

Chef Anthony Carron of 800 Degrees Pizzeria is one chef who has had to put his own beliefs aside in order to make his customers happy. Carron, who is adamant that he personally would never eat pineapple on a pizza, nor would any self-respecting Italian, has had to change his stubborn attitude towards pineapple on pizza. When he first opened 800 Degrees, he refused to carry it on principle, but it was literally the number one requested topping that we did not carry.

Finally relenting after a few years on behalf of their great customers, Carron now allows pineapple in his pizzeria, under one condition. Refusing to just serve garbage canned pineapple tidbits he instead buys whole, fresh Hawaiian gold pineapples, which are then peeled and diced by hand, tossed with extra virgin olive oil and sea salt, and roasted in their wood-burning ovens until they are caramelized, which actually sounds incredibly delicious.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AGP31M - Amaryllis is the only genus in the subtribe Amaryllidinae (tribe Amaryllideae). It is a small genus of flowering bulbs, with two species. The better known of the two, Amaryllis belladonna, is a native of the Western Cape region of South Africa, particularly the rocky southwest area between the Olifants River Valley and Knysna.
For many years there was confusion among botanists over the generic names Amaryllis and Hippeastrum, one result of which is that the common name 'amaryllis' is mainly used for cultivars of the genus Hippeastrum, widely sold in the winter months for their ability to bloom indoors.
Plants of the genus Amaryllis are known as belladonna lily, Jersey lily, naked lady, amarillo, Easter lily in Southern Australia or, in South Africa, March lily due to its propensity to flower around March. This is one of numerous genera with the common name 'lily' due to their flower shape and growth habit. However, they are only distantly related to the true lily, Lilium. In the Victorian language of flowers, amaryllis means love, beauty, and determination, and can also represent hope and achievement

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RMJ3B6 - Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. It originated as a Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early saints named Valentinus. Valentine's Day is recognized as a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and romantic love in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country.
There are numerous martyrdom stories associated with various Valentines connected to February 14, including a written account of Saint Valentine of Rome's imprisonment for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians persecuted under the Roman Empire. According to legend, Saint Valentine restored sight to the blind daughter of his judge, and he wrote her a letter signed Your Valentine as a farewell before his execution.
The Feast of Saint Valentine was established by Pope Gelasius I in AD 496 to be celebrated on February 14 in honour of the Christian martyr, Saint Valentine of Rome, who died on that date in AD 269. The day first became associated with romantic love within the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th-century England, it grew into an occasion in which couples expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as valentines). Valentine's Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards. In Europe, Saint Valentine's Keys are given to lovers as a romantic symbol and an invitation to unlock the giver's heart, as well as to children to ward off epilepsy (called Saint Valentine's Malady).
Saint Valentine's Day is an official feast day in the Anglican Communion and the Lutheran Church.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2A4PJJX - Ross Sinclair is an artist, writer and musician who is Professor of Contemporary Art Practice within the School of Fine Art at The Glasgow School of Art. He is best known for his ˜Real Life' research project initiated when he had the words REAL LIFE tattooed in black ink across his back, at Terry's Tattoo parlour in Glasgow, 1994.
Sinclair completed a PhD by Published Work in 2016 where he interrogated and articulated the innovative nature of the Real Life project, unusual in its scale and duration, defining the contribution to contemporary art practice across the fields of sculpture, painting, performance, installation, critical writing and music. Drawing on these multi-disciplinary methodologies Sinclair maps out the forms, materials and processes activated over almost 25 Years of Real Life Projects, that often combine unusual and unorthodox approaches challenging conventional modes of exhibition practice, enabling new means of engagement with the viewer. The multi part thesis submitted claims these routes as an autonomous, artist initiated project, connecting with the public at a dynamic intersection of ideas, context, performance and art-practice.
Sinclair's Real Life Project is set in a critical framework of contested paradigms of Everyday Life and The Real and acknowledges the influence of key critical thinkers over the quarter century of its development from Barthes, Baudrillard and De Certeau, through Bourriaud, Bishop and Kester and more recently in Harman, Mark Fisher and Paul O'Neill amongst many others. The project has been punctuated by the exploration of individual and collective relationships with Real Life particularly viewed through contemporary paradigms constructing society such as: Democracy, Utopia, Justice, Capitalism, Geography and History, the Church, the Bank, the State, while in parallel addressing the role of the tattooed artist himself.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy GJ79A5 - Afflecks (formerly Affleck's Palace) is an indoor market in Manchester, England, in the city's Northern Quarter on the junction of Church Street/Tib Street and Dale Street with Oldham Street. Dozens of independent stalls, small shops and boutiques operate in the one building. The building was once occupied by a department store called Affleck and Brown as a store and office space, hence the name.
Affleck's Palace first opened in 1981 by James and Elaine Walsh with an ethos of offering a safe environment for entrepreneurs to start out with affordable rent and no long term contracts. Unit holders operated under a licence agreement which allowed them to pay for space on a week by week basis. The atmosphere and colourful maze-like layout led to Affleck's becoming a mecca for alternative culture. The establishment was able to bounce back from two building fires and overcame many obstacles.
During the 1990s 'Madchester Summer of Love' period “ when local bands like the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets were at the height of their popularity
Affleck's Palace was a fashionable spot to get oversized flared jeans and tie dyed T-shirts and 'Eastern Bloc' was a popular record shop as it dealt in all the latest underground dance tunes of the time.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy EDR5RB - Postage Stamps.html?sortBy=relevant&pseudoid=237DAF28-A4ED-4448-8173-C0E81ABEEC6F Target=_Blank>stamps and postal history of Australia
The six self-governing Australian colonies that formed the Commonwealth of Australia on 1 January 1901 operated their own postal service and issued their own stamps “ see articles on the systems on New South Wales (first stamps issued 1850), Victoria (1850), Tasmania (1853), Western Australia (1854), South Australia (1855) and Queensland (1860). Under section 51(v) of the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution 1900, postal, telegraphic, telephonic, and other like services became a Commonwealth responsibility.
The Commonwealth's Postmaster-General's Department became effective on 1 March 1901 (this agency would be disaggregated on 1 July 1975 in part into the Australian Postal Commission trading as Australia Post). All then-current colony stamps which continued on sale became de facto Commonwealth stamps. Some of these stamps continued to be used for some time following the introduction in 1913 of the Commonwealth's uniform postage stamp series. These stamps continued to be valid for postage until 14 February 1966 when the introduction of decimal currency made all stamps bearing the earlier currency invalid for use.
There have been many special issues. The first Christmas stamp appeared on 6 November 1957. In recent years, designs for the Christmas issue have alternated each year between the religious and the secular. From 1993, in October of every year, Australia Post has commemorated Stamp Collecting month with special issues, typically featuring topics that are of interest to children such as pets, native fauna and space. Commencing with the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, during the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, stamps featuring Australians who have won an Olympic gold medal are issued on the next postal business day after the achievement.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DDXMFX - LGBT Warrington is organised by LGBT members who are all volunteers. The group has built great relationships with partners, which include the Council, police, health and local businesses.
They are here to help and welcome anyone who would like to join us to stamp out the stigma people may have on the LGBT community.
The group offers support to those who need it on a 1-2-1 basis and is treated with great confidentiality, and point people in the right direction of the services they require.
They meet throughout the year mainly to have a brew and chat about life in general, to meet and make new friends, and for those who require extra support, to help by signposting to relevant services in Warrington. We also at times hold activities such as bowling, theatre trips, quizzes and games.
They also have nights out in the town centre at Cotton Mill or Show Bar and take part with events they are holding, or even have the odd night out to Manchester to Canal Street or to the theatre.
During the year they are also visited by guest speakers.
They welcome visitors and potential new members whatever their sexuality, though is open to 18+ only.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DB0FWK - The adult shop, seedy place to buy magazines, sex toys and DVDs
A sex shop or erotic shop is a shop that sells products related to adult sexual or erotic entertainment, such as vibrators, lingerie, clothing, pornography, and other related products. The world's first sex shop was opened in 1962 by Beate Uhse AG in Flensburg, West Germany, and sex shops can now be found in many countries. Many sex shops also trade over the internet. Sex shops are part of the sex industry.
In most jurisdictions, sex shops are regulated by law, with access not permitted to minors, the age depending on local law. Some jurisdictions prohibit sex shops and the merchandise they sell. In some jurisdictions that permit it, they may also show pornographic movies in private video booths, or have private striptease or peep shows. Also an adult movie theater may be attached.
Near borders of countries with different laws regarding sex shops, shops on the more liberal side tend to be popular with customers from the other side, especially if importing the purchased materials by customers to their own country, and possessing them, is legal or tolerated

A cracking track, memorable to me because I was playing this getting carried away doing 38 in a 30mph cut through Hattersley avoiding Mottram one morning in 1984. The metallic green VW Golf 1300 has long gone, but my love for the Furs and this track remains un-dimmed.
Mirror Moves is the fourth studio album by the English rock band The Psychedelic Furs, recorded and released in 1984. Vince Ely had left the group, leaving three original Furs and Keith Forsey taking on production and drumming. The album included the dance hit 'Heartbeat' and the minor hits 'Heaven' and 'The Ghost in You'. Another track from the album, 'Here Come Cowboys', was released as a single, but did not chart. However, the band made a video for it which received some airplay on the then, very new and popular MTV network.
Psychedelic Furs are one of the many acts spawned from the British post-punk scene. Their music went through several phases, from an initially austere art rock sound, later touching on new wave and hard rock.
They scored several hits in their early career, but were launched to international attention in 1986 when the film director John Hughes used their song 'Pretty in Pink' for his movie of the same name. A newly recorded version of the song became the Psychedlic Furs' biggest hit to that time. 'Heartbreak Beat', from their 1987 album Midnight to Midnight, was the Furs' biggest Top 40 entry in the US.

Berlin is a city where ordinary street details often carry heavy layers of history, from Prussian and imperial architecture to the Weimar period, Nazi rule, wartime destruction, division, the DDR, reunification, tourism, gentrification and contemporary creative culture. The caption and visible subject detail provide a specific point of entry into that wider story rather than a generic German city view. Buyers could use the photograph for articles about Berlin travel, Cold War memory, street art, museum interpretation, urban nightlife, river sightseeing, architecture, souvenir culture, public transport, pedestrian design or the way history is repackaged in modern tourism. Search-friendly composite terms include Berlin Mitte street art, DDR surveillance display, Berlin Fernsehturm skyline, River Spree pleasure boat, Ampelmann crossing light, Berliner Dom interior, Berlin urban culture and German capital tourism. If the subject is graffiti, it can illustrate the city as a living wall of political humour, youth culture, commercial branding and layered paste-ups. If it is heritage or church architecture, it can support more formal travel, culture, history and education uses. If it is a boat, toy or street sign, it gives editors an accessible human-scale route into a large city story. The documentary style keeps the image credible for web, magazine, guidebook, education, museum, travel, urban policy, politics, design, consumer and social commentary use. Its strength for Alamy search is the mix of precise caption wording and broader Berlin themes, allowing it to be found for both narrow subject.

Three is the first odd prime number, and the second smallest prime. It is both the first Fermat prime (22n + 1) and the first Mersenne prime (2n \u2212 1), the only number that is both, as well as the first lucky prime. However, it is the second Sophie Germain prime, the second Mersenne prime exponent, the second factorial prime (2! + 1), the second Lucas prime, the second Stern prime.
A natural number is divisible by three if the sum of its digits in base 10 is divisible by 3. For example, the number 21 is divisible by three (3 times 7) and the sum of its digits is 2 + 1 = 3. Because of this, the reverse of any number that is divisible by three (or indeed, any permutation of its digits) is also divisible by three. For instance, 1368 and its reverse 8631 are both divisible by three (and so are 1386, 3168, 3186, 3618, etc..). See also Divisibility rule. This works in base 10 and in any positional numeral system whose base divided by three leaves a remainder of one (bases 4, 7, 10, etc.).
Humans perceive white light as the mixture of the three additive primary hues: red, green, and blue.
The rule of thirds is a 'rule of thumb' or guideline which applies to the process of composing visual images such as paintings, photographs and designs. The guideline proposes that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections.[2] Proponents of the technique claim that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject would.

The library is a great place to find romance (people tell me). A place to escape into a Mills &
Boon or a Jennifer Baker who does quite a few teen romances.
'Holly and Chris have fallen desperately in love. So much so that when their feuding families try to put a stop to their romance, they stake everything on their overwhelming feelings. They decide to run away and make a new life together'....
Nice to try from the library, maybe not something that you might buy from Amazon...
Just dont be caught leaving the library with one....

Holding hands is something we enjoy doing with our children and lovers. In some cultures, Arab countries, Africa and some parts of Asia it is done also by men and/or boys for friendship and/or a sign of respect.
The custom of men holding hands can cause discomfort in societies unused to it, as it did with Americans, when, in 2005, then Crown prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia held hands in public with then American president George W Bush.
Archaeological ruins and ancient texts show that handshaking was practiced in ancient Greece as far back as the 5th century BC
a depiction of two soldiers shaking hands can be found on part of a 5th century BC funerary stele on display in the Pergamon Museum, Berlin.
Other funerary steles like the one of the 4th century BC which depicts Thraseas and his wife Euandria handshaking (see images on the right). Some researchers have suggested the handshake may have been introduced in the Western World by Sir Walter Raleigh in service with the British Court during the late 16th century.
The handshake is thought by some to have originated as a gesture of peace by demonstrating that the hand holds no weapon.
The Beatles need no introduction, if this is your first brush with them, please email me and let me know.

Breaking up is hard to do. Champagne &
Roses becomes four letter words and deceit. Hey, we have all been there....
The Secret Machines are a three-piece American alternative rock band. Originally from Dallas, Texas before moving to New York City, they describe their band as space rock. The original lineup consisted of two brothers, Brandon and Benjamin Curtis, and Josh Garza. In March 2007, Benjamin left the band, and was replaced by Phil Karnats.
In 2004, The Secret Machines released their first full length CD - Now Here Is Nowhere. Their second EP, The Road Leads Where It's Led, was released on 7 June 2005. The song 'Nowhere Again', from the their debut album, was used in promotional spots for American during its launch, and appeared in the 2006 videogame Driver: Parallel Lines.
Ten Silver Drops, their second album, leaked onto file sharing websites following the release of this excellent single 'Alone, Jealous and Stoned' in the UK. The album once again did not sell well but saw some favorable reviews. Benjamin Curtis left the band on March 3, 2007 to focus full time on his new band, School of Seven Bells.
The Secret Machines have three tracks on the soundtrack for the 2007 film Across the Universe, which highlights the music of the Beatles, set to the story of a handful of characters living out the songs. They perform 'I Am the Walrus' with Bono singing
an instrumental, 'Flying' and 'Blue Jay Way' in their notable style.

If you have not seen them before, 'Love Hearts' are a type of confectionery manufactured by Swizzels Matlow in the UK. They are hard, fizzy, tablet-shaped sweets in a variety of fruit flavours featuring a short, love-related message on one side of the sweet.
Love Hearts currently come in six flavours, each associated with a colour.
1.White (a plain, sherbet-like, slightly tart vanilla flavour - Weakest Flavour)
2.Yellow (a sherbet-like flavour with a distinct sharp lemon aftertaste)
3.Orange (a sweet flavour with a slight orange aftertaste)
4.Green (a slightly lime flavour with a sherbet-like aftertaste)
5.Purple (an unusual, slightly perfumed berry-like flavour with a strong aftertaste)
6.Red (cherry flavour - Strongest)
Sample messages include:
Be My Love, Just Me, Hug Me, Bye Bye, Dream Girl, Dream Boy, Cutie Pie, New Love, Call Me, Nice Girl, Hi Buddy, Love You, U Rock, Its Love, Tease Me, I Love You.
Lately you can also sometimes find 'Luv U 24/7', 'Email Me' and 'Page Me', bringing them into the 21st century.
Production of Love Hearts began in 1933 with the formation of Swizzels Ltd., initially in factory premises at Star Lane, Canning Town, London, moving later that year to the larger premises at Drivers Avenue, Plaistow, London. During the Blitz in 1940 production relocated to a disused textile mill in New Mills, Derbyshire, England, UK where it has stayed to this day.

As we arrive at the end of another year, its fair to ask if we have more love in the world now, than we had this time 365 days ago. Some dictators have gone from this world or dissapeared from view and some new ones are exerting their will. Please make it your business to spread some love this year.
Best wishes for 2012 for you, your family and photography. I look forward to seeing everyones new creations.
My final post this year is this one from the late and missed man who spread Jamaican music, much love and the Rastafari movement to the world. He left us in 1981, hopefully we got more love around the world than 30 years ago. Something to consider when you toast in the New Year.
'Could You Be Loved' is a song by Bob Marley &
The Wailers. It was released in 1980 on their last album Uprising and is included on Bob Marley &
The Wailers greatest hits album Legend. It was written in 1979 on an airplane while The Wailers were experimenting on guitar.
In the middle of the song, background singers quote a verse from Bob Marley's first single Judge Not: 'The road of life is rocky
And you may stumble too. So while you point a finger, someone else is judging you'
Some of The Wailers most notable songs were recorded with Lee 'Scratch' Perry and his studio band The Upsetters. During the early 1970s The Upsetters members Aston 'Family Man' Barrett and his brother Carlton (Carlie) Barrett, formed the Wailers Band, providing instrumental backing for The Wailers.
The Wailers recorded groundbreaking reggae songs such as 'Simmer Down', 'Trenchtown Rock', 'Nice Time', 'War', 'Stir It Up' and 'Get Up, Stand Up'.
The Wailers disbanded in 1974 due to Tosh and Livingston's refusal to tour. Bob Marley formed Bob Marley &
The Wailers with Bob Marley himself as guitarist, songwriter and main singer, the Wailers Band as the backing band, and the I Threes as backup vocalists.
The Wailers Band included the brothers Carlton Barrett and 'Family Man' Barrett on drums and bass respectively, Junior Marvin and Al Anderson playing lead guitar, Tyrone Downie and Earl 'Wya' Lindo playing keyboard, and Alvin 'Seeco' Patterson playing percussion. The I Threes, consisted of Bob Marley's wife Rita Marley, Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths.
Bob Marley &
The Wailers, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer all enjoyed considerable success as reggae music continued to gain popularity during the 1970s and 1980s.
Several of the group's members have died subsequent to Marley's death in 1981: Carlton Barrett and Tosh in 1987, Braithwaite in 1999, and Smith in 2008. Bunny Wailer and Beverley Kelso are the only surviving members of the group's original line-up.

A frequent visitor, but not a daily commuter on the London Underground thankfully, I often get the feeling I could be on an elaborate film set.
London's underground railway system, known as the Tube, has featured in several films. The plot of the 1998 film Sliding Doors hinges on whether Gwynneth Paltrow's character catches a particular Tube train or not. Bulldog Jack (1934), Manhunt (1941), The Good Die Young (1954), and 28 Weeks Later (2007) all include chase sequences across underground tracks.
A number of horror films have also used the subterranean network of tunnels as an atmospheric location, most notably the John Landis hit An American Werewolf in London (1981), which contains a famous scene set in Tottenham Court Road tube station, and the 2004 film Creep. The eerie 1973 horror Death Line stars Donald Pleasence as a Scotland Yard detective who traces a series of murders to cannibals living in the network's tunnels.
Excavations on the Underground unearthed an ancient alien spacecraft in Quatermass and the Pit (1967), and dormant dragons in Reign of Fire (2002).
The 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day features a secret MI6 facility in a fictional disused Underground Station called Vauxhall Cross. Another fictional station, Hobbs End features in the 1967 science fiction film Quatermass and the Pit. Shaun of the Dead features the fictional Crouch End station.
London Lady is the 3rd track on side one of Rattus Norvegicus (alternative title The Stranglers IV) is the first studio album by The Stranglers, released on 17 April 1977. The album was originally to be entitled 'Dead on Arrival' but was changed at the last minute. It was one of the highest-selling albums of the punk era in Britain, eventually achieving platinum record sales.
The album's title is the taxonomic name for the common brown rat. It was produced in one week by Martin Rushent, and was basically a snapshot of the band's live set at the time.
The first 20,000 copies of the original vinyl release included a free 7' single, containing 'Peasant in the Big Shitty (live)' and 'Choosie Susie'. I have a copy in my loft. Two singles were taken from the album: 'Grip', and 'Peaches' (released as a double A-side with the non-album track 'Go Buddy Go'), which gave the band their first major hit single, reaching No.8 on the UK chart.A remastered version of the album was reissued on CD in 2001, including these three additional tracks.

The band aim for a fresh melodic sound, yet maintaining an extreme yet old school feel to the music, forever hoping to progress through time, and with the dedication and drive we all have we believe this is possible
This Winnington Rec' Banned! gig was opened by Spires, Kensington Arms from Holland and topped off by AQOE (A Question Of Etiquette).
The AQOE set included 'Hold Tight', Divided, AQOE, Innovations, 'Visions of a sleeping god'and Brainless.

To the depths of the ocean where all hopes sank, searching for you,
I was moving through the silence without motion, waiting for you,
In a room with a window in the corner I found truth.
In the shadowplay, acting out your own death, knowing no more,
As the assassins all grouped in four lines, dancing on the floor,
And with cold streel, odour on their bodies mad a move to connect,
But I could only stare in disbelief as the crowds all left.
I did everything, everything I wanted to,
I let them use you for their own ends,
To the centre of the city in the night, waiting for you.
To the centre of the city in the night, waiting for you.
Ian Curtis (Ian Kevin Curtis to be precise) was songwriter and lyricist of the Manchester band Joy Division.
I was lucky enough to see Joy Division a couple of times. Once at the manchester Free Trade Hall 25/06/1979, with Fashion supporting Salford Punk Poet John Cooper Clarke. Secondly at the Factory / PSV / Russel club in Hulme, Manchester 28/09/1979. The latter time on a bill with The Teardrop Explodes (we were too late to see Foreign Press), before they were signed and had just released the Sleeping Gas EP on Zoo records.
I remember that friday night well as me and my pal from school David Hague were dropped off by his brother Nick in his nippy red leather seated Mazda. This was to be totalled some weeks later in Sheffield with over a hundred charges being cooked up by the south Yorkshire police. As you would expect the case was chucked out! But thats another story as they say.
The first time I saw Ian Curtis I was amazed at the power he had. I like everyone else it seemed at the FTH was drawn down to the stage to look at this man and his unique dancing style. Similar to an epileptic Northern Soul dancer. To this day I have not witnessed a vocalist with those same powers. He and his writing was special, dark, urban.
He explained the motivation as 'Instead of just singing about something you could show it as well, put it over in the way that it is, if you were totally involved in what you were doing'.
Songs like 'Transmission', 'Shes Lost Control again' and Shadowplay encapsulated Manchester and the late 1970's.
In the early hours of 18 May 1980, on the eve of a first tour in America, Curtis hanged himself in the kitchen of his house in Macclesfield. He had just viewed Werner Herzog's film 'Stroszek' and listened to Iggy Pop's 'The Idiot'. At the time of his death, his health was failing as a result of the epilepsy and attempting to balance his musical ambitions with his marriage, which was foundering in the aftermath of his affair with journalist Annik Honor\u00e9. His wife Deborah found his body the next morning.
Curtis's memorial stone, which is inscribed with 'Ian Curtis 18 - 5 - 80' and 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' (the single released just before his death), was stolen in July 2008 from the grounds of Macclesfield Cemetery. The missing memorial stone was later replaced by a new one shown here.

Originally the Royal High School was earmarked for the site of the future Scottish Assembly. The new modern building is now at the foot of the hill at Holyrood.
The hill was owned by hill from Lord Balmerino until 1724 and what a view he must have had!

Perhaps we should worry about our carbon footprint, walk a bit more rather than drive as much? Possibly eat less supermarket food, consume in season and cut down on our food air miles ? Think more about our neighbours, come to think of it, do you even know your neighbours? Some of our prejudges should maybe be put aside, the world\u2019s more interesting when it\u2019s diverse.
I must have passed this on Orford road coming into Padgate, Warrington Cheshire a few dozen times. To stop at the traffic lights makes you consider these four words a little more deeply. Next time you wait there to follow the A50 or to go to Birchwood following the A574, consider these words.
If you have had any thoughts when passing this, please leave a comment.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4957168619 - 'Love Will Tear Us Apart - 'Joy Division' - Play this track ob=av2n\' rel=\'nofollow\'>here.
\u00bfWhats this iPod Shuffle set all about? Read about it here
Joy Division were a Manchester post-punk band formed in 1976 in Salford, England. Originally named Warsaw. It consisted of Ian Curtis (vox), Barney or Bernard Sumner (Guitar/Keyboards/Occasional Bass), Peter Hook (Bass/Backing Vocals/Occasional guitar) and Steve Morris (Percussion).
I came across them first supporting JCC (John Cooper Clark) at the Manchester Free Trade Hall Monday 25th June 1979. That day is etched on my mind as it was a mind-blowing event for me, seeing Ian Curtis and the powerful presence he had on that stage. I dont think a band has had that effect on me since and I have seen probably thousands of live gigs.
I bought Joy Division's debut album, 'Unknown Pleasures' the day it was released, in its special textured cover, then promptly played it to death. The original LP release contained no track information on the labels, nor the traditional 'side one' and 'side two' designations. The ostensible 'side one' was labeled Outside and displayed a reproduction of the image on the album cover, while the other side was labeled Inside and displayed the same image with the colours reversed (black-on-white). Track information and album credits appeared on the inner sleeve only.
This single 'Love will tear us apart' appeared after teh release of the second album Closer. It debuted when the band supported Buzzcocks on their UK tour in September and October 1979. It is one of the few songs in which singer Ian Curtis played guitar (albeit somewhat minimally). The lyrics ostensibly reflect the problems in Ian Curtis's marriage to Deborah Curtis, as well as his general frame of mind in the time leading up to his suicide in May 1980. Deborah Curtis had the phrase 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' inscribed on Ian Curtis's memorial stone.
It appears on the Substance compilation album. It was first recorded for a John Peel session in November 1979, then re-recorded in January 1980 and March 1980. It is the latter version that appears on Substance. The January 1980 version originally appeared as the single's B-side.
In 1995, to publicise the release of Permanent, the track was reissued, complete with a new remix done by Arthur Baker and a new radio edit, also known as the Permanent Mix. On September 24, 2007 (2007-09-24), the single was again reissued, in its original configuration. This time, it was to publicise the Collector's Edition re-issues of the band's three albums. Although the single was now issued on the Warner label, it retained all the classic Factory packaging, down to the FAC 23 catalogue number.
It has been covered by the world and his wife, including U2, Arcade Fire, The Cure and others. On the video for the song, at the very beginning, the door that swings open and shut has the initials of the band members carved into it. The video was shot by the band themselves as they recorded the song.
It includes production errors with colour being 'browned out' at some points. Due to another production error the vocals as sung by Curtis during the video didn't come out as intended. The song as originally recorded in the video sounds much more like that in their Peel Session. Curtis re-recorded the vocals separately with the hint of melancholy that helps make it distinctive. The oddly-shaped guitar played by Ian Curtis is a Vox Phantom (Often wrongly believed to be the Vox Mark III).
To learn more about JD, track down the 'Substance' compilation and the book 'Touching From A Distance' by Deborah Curtis. The devout Joy Division fan Anton Corbijn film 'Control' is a great starting point for getting to know the bands history. Tell 'em I sent you :-)

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2REGJ2X - This image shows a colourful community mural at the Barons Quay Gateway in Northwich town centre, Cheshire. The long wall artwork features bright colours, hand-drawn illustrations and positive messages including words such as Hope , Love and Peace , designed to create a welcoming pedestrian route into the Barons Quay retail and leisure development.
The mural forms part of wider public-realm improvements associated with the regeneration of Northwich town centre, an area that has undergone significant redevelopment following industrial decline and structural issues linked to historic salt mining. Community-led public art projects such as this are often used to soften large developments, improve wayfinding, and foster local identity.
Planters and accessible signage in the foreground reinforce the pedestrian-friendly nature of the space, while the surrounding brickwork and modern buildings highlight the contrast between older town structures and contemporary regeneration architecture.
The photograph was taken in daylight under clear conditions, capturing the mural as an everyday part of the urban environment. The image documents how public art is increasingly used within UK town-centre regeneration schemes to promote positivity, inclusivity, and civic pride.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PM6538 - Manchester Airport (IATA: MAN, ICAO: EGCC) is an international airport in Ringway, Manchester, England, 7.5 nautical miles (13.9 km
8.6 mi) south-west of Manchester city centre. In 2019, it was the third busiest airport in the United Kingdom in terms of passenger numbers and the busiest of those not serving London. The airport comprises three passenger terminals and a cargo terminal, and is the only airport in the UK other than Heathrow Airport to operate two runways over 3,280 yd (2,999 m) in length. Manchester Airport covers an area of 560 hectares (1,400 acres) and has flights to 199 destinations, placing the airport thirteenth globally for total destinations served.
Officially opened on 25 June 1938, it was initially known as Ringway Airport, a name still in local use. In World War II, as RAF Ringway, it was a base for the Royal Air Force. The airport is owned and managed by the Manchester Airport Holdings (trading as MAG), a holding company owned by the Australian finance house IFM Investors and the ten metropolitan borough councils of Greater Manchester, with Manchester City Council owning the largest stake. Ringway, after which the airport was named, is a village with a few buildings and a church at the western edge of the airport.
Future developments include the £800 million Airport City Manchester logistics, manufacturing, office and hotel space next to the airport. Ongoing and future transport improvements include the £290 million Eastern Link relief road, which opened in October 2018. A High Speed 2 station known as Manchester Airport High Speed station, earmarked for opening in 2033, will create a regular sub-ten-minute shuttle service for connecting rail passengers between central Manchester and the Airport while relieving stress on the Styal Line to the Airport from Manchester which has become one of the most congested routes on the National Rail network

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2A4PJJP - Ross Sinclair is an artist, writer and musician who is Professor of Contemporary Art Practice within the School of Fine Art at The Glasgow School of Art.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy ECW52W - Photo shows Christmas lights being overdone on a British house - Festive celebrations in December for Xmas. The photograph is useful for Christmas, Hogmanay, festive leisure, winter tourism, night-time economy and family entertainment themes. Seasonal images like this can work for travel, shopping, hospitality, energy use, household celebration, public events and wider stories about how towns and cities create atmosphere during darker months. The supplied workbook does not give a precise location, so the image should be treated as a concept or documentary subject unless the location can be verified separately. The image is strongly seasonal, with winter or Christmas context visible or implied by the caption. It should work for editorial buyers needing authentic, non-staged British or travel imagery for news, magazine, blog, local government, heritage, housing, transport, tourism, retail, public policy or social commentary use. The caption should be checked against the visible photograph before upload so that any readable signs, weather, time of day and people context are accurately reflected without overstating facts not shown in the image. The strongest sales value is the combination of named subject, real location and everyday documentary style, giving picture editors a flexible image that can sit alongside features, opinion pieces, explainers, historical retrospectives and local news. Search relevance is helped by including concise place names, visible brand or wording, functional subject terms, and wider editorial concepts such as public realm, consumer behaviour, heritage, travel, leisure and community life where they genuinely match the picture.
