Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2CBTEEP - William Shankly OBE (2 September 1913 ? 29 September 1981) was a Scottish football player and manager, who is best known for his time as manager of Liverpool. Shankly brought success to Liverpool, gaining promotion to the First Division and winning three League Championships and the UEFA Cup. He laid foundations on which his successors Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan were able to build by winning seven league titles and four European Cups in the ten seasons after Shankly retired in 1974. A charismatic, iconic figure at the club, his oratory stirred the emotions of the fanbase. In 2019, 60 years after Shankly arrived at Liverpool, Tony Evans of The Independent wrote, Shankly created the idea of Liverpool, transforming the football club by emphasising the importance of the Kop and making supporters feel like participants
Shankly took charge of Liverpool when they were in the Second Division and rebuilt the team into a major force in English and European football. He led Liverpool to the Second Division Championship to gain promotion to the top-flight First Division in 1962, before going on to win three First Division Championships, two FA Cups, four Charity Shields and one UEFA Cup. It was during Shankly's reign the club changed to an all-red home strip, and You'll Never Walk Alone became the club's anthem. Shankly announced his surprise retirement from football a few weeks after Liverpool had won the 1974 FA Cup Final, having managed the club for 15 years, and was succeeded by his long-time assistant Bob Paisley. He led the Liverpool team out for the last time at Wembley for the 1974 FA Charity Shield.[6] He died seven years later, aged 68. Considered one of the greatest managers in the sport, Shankly was among the inaugural inductees into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002, and the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in 2004.

The monument is circular with a raised design in low relief. The imagery shows an imaginary place,which is meant to guide our thoughts of remembrance and all that has happened since the tragedy
The people depicted in the design are ?the guardians of the memory', or ?people like us' Their purpose is symbolic and other figures represent justice, hope and loss. The setting is a beautiful and quiet place, which may help us to think about the characters and individual personalities of those who died. The people who passed away are represented by the birds who fly freely throughout the work.
We reflect and empathise with those who died while considering the people they were, and might have been, were it not for the disaster

Below the information plaque is a rail of football scarves from differing clubs signifying the way football fans responded nationally in the days after the disaster. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy CF23MJ - Queen's Park suspension bridge (for pedestrians. A great spot where the walker can see up the Dee river and over to the stone road crossing. Queens Park Suspension Bridge, links the walled city centre and the Groves with the Queens Park area on the southern bank. This was built in 1923 to replace an earlier construction. It is painted white and lit at night.
The river was why the Romans came to build their fort here and the area below the city of Chester (now called The Roodee), which is now occupied by the racecourse was where the harbour was located. Over time the river silted and Liverpool became the port of choice for sea going vessels.
Near to this pedestrian bridge, north of town, is the Groves. A paved promenade complete with bandstand, caf??s, restaurants and pubs. Here there are river cruises or rowing boats to hire.

This music you may remember from BBC Saturday Sport was composed by MES (Mark E Smith) and The Fall. To get a feel for the show, check this out. Unfortunately, his beloved Man City had managed a 'Hopeless as usual performance' in their 0-0 draw against Blackburn.
The Fall are an English post-punk group, formed in Prestwich, Greater Manchester in 1976. The group has existed in some form ever since, and is essentially built around its founder and only constant member Mark E. Smith. First associated with the punk movement of the late 1970s, the group's music has gone through several stylistic changes over the years.
However, The Fall's music is often characterised by repetition, an abrasive guitar-driven sound, and is always underpinned by Smith's vocals and often cryptic lyrics, described by critic Steve Huey as 'abstract poetry filled with complicated wordplay, bone-dry wit, cutting social observations, and general misanthropy (sometimes more implied than clearly stated, but apparent nonetheless).'
The group's output is prolific. As of September 2010 they have released 28 studio albums, and more than triple that counting live albums and other releases. They have never achieved widespread public success beyond a handful of minor hit singles in the late 1980s, but have maintained a strong cult following. The band were long associated with BBC disc jockey John Peel, who championed them from early on in their career and cited The Fall as his favourite band, famously explaining, 'They are always different, they are always the same.'. The Fall were the only band who merited a seperate section in John Peel's record collection.
MES does manage the band like a football team, bringing in new talent and mavericks (many he encounters in the pub in Prestwich) acting as foreman. Dave Simpson's book 'The Fallen' is a great guide to the world of The Fall.
The last time I saw them was in Liverpool 2008 when MES had just turned 50. The band's Peel sessions were finally released recently by Castle Records in the six-CD box 'The Complete Peel Sessions 1978-2004'. This is a good starting point for getting to know the varied music of the band. The lastest album 'Your Future, Our Clutter' is also worth a listen to wet your appetite. Tell 'em I sent you.....

The Hillsborough monument was comissioned by the Hillsborough Justice Campaign and sculpted by Tom Murphy.
Background: A young girl asked her Father, where is the Hillsborough Memorial? She was told: ?There is one in Anfield.' She said: ?Why can't we have one in the city centre for everyone to see.' This simple question was the catalyst for this monument
The monument is circular with a raised design in low relief. The imagery shows an imaginary place,which is meant to guide our thoughts of remembrance and all that has happened since the tragedy
The people depicted in the design are ?the guardians of the memory', or ?people like us' Their purpose is symbolic and other figures represent justice, hope and loss. The setting is a beautiful and quiet place, which may help us to think about the characters and individual personalities of those who died. The people who passed away are represented by the birds who fly freely throughout the work.
We reflect and empathise with those who died while considering the people they were, and might have been, were it not for the disaster
Description of the raised relief on the maquette
The design begins with two large tablets that list the names those who died. A dedication and information plaque is situated between the tablets of names with a poem, written especially for the moument, by David Charters (journalist and author). Immediately above the central dedication is a wreath of spring flowers. This reminds us of the season and number of victims who died. A Liver Bird stands guard. Below the information plaque is a rail of football scarves from differing clubs signifying the way football fans responded nationally in the days after the disaster. Around the top rim of the monument is the proclamation: ?HILLSBOROUGH DISASTER. WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.'.

Klopp spent most of his playing career at Mainz 05. He was initially deployed as a striker, but was later moved to defence. Upon retiring in 2001, Klopp became the club's manager, and secured Bundesliga promotion in 2004. After suffering relegation in the 2006?07 season and unable to achieve promotion, Klopp resigned in 2008 as the club's longest-serving manager. He then became manager of Borussia Dortmund, guiding them to the Bundesliga title in 2010?11, before winning Dortmund's first-ever domestic double during a record-breaking season. Liverpool Football Club launched its Christmas Foodbank Appeal today ahead of Wednesday's Merseyside derby at Anfield.
Trent Alexander-Arnold took time out before training on Monday to drop by North Liverpool Foodbank to donate food, meet with staff and volunteers and find out more about the centre's important work.
The No.66 said: It was a pleasure to be able to visit the foodbank and meet with the hard-working staff and volunteers. Their dedication makes such a difference to people who need their help. I'm really proud that my club is supporting such an important cause.
Trent's support was matched by a visit from Everton FC players Moise Kean and Alex Iwobi, who also donated food and helped to weigh and sort donations.
These visits, along with other club activity, are helping to raise awareness of food poverty and encourage food donations leading up to and throughout the Christmas period, which can be a difficult time for many people.
LFC staff have worked together to create the club's first ever Christmas Giving Tree, made out of food donations, which proudly features on the club's official Christmas card that is being distributed around the world to thousands of contacts.
