Liverpool is to get a new sculpture of its iconic symbol, the Liver Bird.
The 6ft (1.8m) statue will stand at the entrance to Liverpool Central Station from early 2015.
Sculptor Rick Myers said it would celebrate the new Liverpool and the massive number of firsts that have been achieved here.
Councillor Nick Small said the bird would be a fantastic way of celebrating the city's proud history... seen by up to 50,000 people a day.
The statue will be dedicated to former Commercial District Partnership chief executive Paul Rice, who died in 2012.
The current chief executive Bill Addy said it was fantastic to see that Paul, who did so much to improve and promote Liverpool, is to be remembered at a high profile city centre location in such a striking fashion.
The fact that it's the emblem of the city and his beloved football club - his two great passions - is a fitting tribute.
Liver Birds Inc director Arthur Johnson said he expected the sculpture to be a popular photo spot for tourists, football fans and shoppers.

This music you may remember from BBC Saturday Sport was composed by MES (Mark E Smith) and The Fall. To get a feel for the show, check this out. Unfortunately, his beloved Man City had managed a 'Hopeless as usual performance' in their 0-0 draw against Blackburn.
The Fall are an English post-punk group, formed in Prestwich, Greater Manchester in 1976. The group has existed in some form ever since, and is essentially built around its founder and only constant member Mark E. Smith. First associated with the punk movement of the late 1970s, the group's music has gone through several stylistic changes over the years.
However, The Fall's music is often characterised by repetition, an abrasive guitar-driven sound, and is always underpinned by Smith's vocals and often cryptic lyrics, described by critic Steve Huey as 'abstract poetry filled with complicated wordplay, bone-dry wit, cutting social observations, and general misanthropy (sometimes more implied than clearly stated, but apparent nonetheless).'
The group's output is prolific. As of September 2010 they have released 28 studio albums, and more than triple that counting live albums and other releases. They have never achieved widespread public success beyond a handful of minor hit singles in the late 1980s, but have maintained a strong cult following. The band were long associated with BBC disc jockey John Peel, who championed them from early on in their career and cited The Fall as his favourite band, famously explaining, 'They are always different, they are always the same.'. The Fall were the only band who merited a seperate section in John Peel's record collection.
MES does manage the band like a football team, bringing in new talent and mavericks (many he encounters in the pub in Prestwich) acting as foreman. Dave Simpson's book 'The Fallen' is a great guide to the world of The Fall.
The last time I saw them was in Liverpool 2008 when MES had just turned 50. The band's Peel sessions were finally released recently by Castle Records in the six-CD box 'The Complete Peel Sessions 1978-2004'. This is a good starting point for getting to know the varied music of the band. The lastest album 'Your Future, Our Clutter' is also worth a listen to wet your appetite. Tell 'em I sent you.....

Klopp spent most of his playing career at Mainz 05. He was initially deployed as a striker, but was later moved to defence. Upon retiring in 2001, Klopp became the club's manager, and secured Bundesliga promotion in 2004. After suffering relegation in the 2006“07 season and unable to achieve promotion, Klopp resigned in 2008 as the club's longest-serving manager. Trent's support was matched by a visit from Everton FC players Moise Kean and Alex Iwobi, who also donated food and helped to weigh and sort donations.
These visits, along with other club activity, are helping to raise awareness of food poverty and encourage food donations leading up to and throughout the Christmas period, which can be a difficult time for many people.
LFC staff have worked together to create the club's first ever Christmas Giving Tree, made out of food donations, which proudly features on the club's official Christmas card that is being distributed around the world to thousands of contacts.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2CBTEFC - Robert Paisley OBE (23 January 1919 “ 14 February 1996) was an English footballer and manager who spent almost fifty years with Liverpool as a wing half, physiotherapist, coach and manager. Due to his achievements as Liverpool manager, Paisley is regarded as one of the greatest English managers of all time. Reluctantly taking the job in 1974, he built on the foundations laid by his predecessor Bill Shankly. Paisley was the first manager, and is one of three, to have won the European Cup three times. He is also one of five managers to have won the English top-flight championship as both a player and manager at the same club.
Paisley came from a small Durham mining community and, in his youth, played for Bishop Auckland before he signed for Liverpool in 1939. During the Second World War, he served in the British Army and could not make his Liverpool debut until 1946. In the 1946“47 season, he was a member of the Liverpool team that won the First Division title for the first time in 24 years. In 1951, he was made club captain and remained with Liverpool until he retired from playing in 1954.
He stayed with Liverpool and took on two roles as reserve team coach and club physiotherapist. By this time, Liverpool had been relegated to the Second Division and their facilities were in decline. In December 1959, Shankly was appointed Liverpool manager and he promoted Paisley to work alongside him as his assistant in a management/coaching team that included Joe Fagan and Reuben Bennett. Under their leadership, the fortunes of Liverpool turned around dramatically and, in the 1961“62 season, the team gained promotion back to the First Division. Paisley filled an important role as tactician under Shankly's leadership and the team won numerous honours during the next twelve seasons.
In 1974, Shankly retired as manager and, despite Paisley's own initial reluctance, he was appointed as Shankly's successor.
