Image of Eighth Station: Jesus meets the women of JerusalemLeader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.
Jesus, as you carry your cross you see a group of women along the road. As you pass by you see they are sad. You stop to spend a moment with them, to offer them some encouragement. Although you have been abandoned by your friends and are in pain, you stop and try to help them.
As a child, sometimes I think a lot about myself. I think about what I want and would like people to spend their lives pleasing me.
As an adult, sometimes I act like a child. I become so absorbed in myself and what I'd like that I forget about the needs of others. I take them for granted, and often ignore their needs.
Help me think more about others. Help me remember that others have problems, too. Help me respond to them even when I'm busy or preoccupied with my own problems.
My Jesus, Who didst comfort the pious women of Jerusalem who wept to see Thee bruised and torn, comfort my soul with Thy tender pity, for in Thy pity lies my trust. May my heart ever answer Thine.
Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be to the Father....

According to a report by the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) appropriately titled Taking the P*** a fifth of Britons don't leave their home as often as they'd like because they know they'll struggle to find facilities, a phenomenon known as loo leash. For those with medical conditions, this affects more than four in 10. Ever found yourself deliberately not drinking in case you get caught short? Over half the public intentionally dehydrate themselves for fear of not finding a loo, according to the report.
By next year, 60% of government funding for local authority services will have vanished compared with 2010
The people must take to the urinals, conveniences and the cubicles, or what remains of them, because the right to pee is under threat. The decline of the public toilet leaving us creeping into pubs and hoping to avoid the disapproving glare of the bartender is just one symptom of the assault on the public realm. By next year, 60% of government funding for local authority services will have vanished compared with 2010. Toilets are not statutory services that is, councils are not legally obliged to provide them and so hundreds have been axed. The British Toilet Association tells me that up to half of public loos may have been closed over the last decade. In Cornwall, the council has stopped maintaining 94% of its toilets. Three in four Britons polled think there are not enough facilities within their communities. But why should we be resigned to this, legs firmly crossed, as a fact of life? Why is removing waste from our doorsteps regarded as an essential, universal service, but allowing us to remove waste from our bodies is not?
The public realm has been subordinated to the whims of the market and profit for over a generation, and toilets are no exception. You'll often need to spend considerably more than a penny to have a pee.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JPB8W1 - As one of the few explicitly gender-separated spaces, the toilet has become a prominent site of conflict and a focal point for gender-critical' feminism. In this article we draw upon an AHRC-funded project, Around the Toilet, to reflect upon and critique trans-exclusionary and trans-hostile narratives of toilet spaces. Such narratives include ciscentric, heteronormative and gender essentialist positions within toilet research and activism which, for example, equate certain actions and bodily functions (such as menstruation) to a particular gender, decry the need for all-gender toilets, and cast suspicion upon the intentions of trans women in public toilet spaces. These include explicitly transmisogynist discourses perpetuated largely by those calling themselves gender-critical' feminists, but also extend to national media, right-wing populist discourses and beyond. We use Around the Toilet data to argue that access to safe and comfortable toilets plays a fundamental role in making trans lives possible. Furthermore, we contend that whether naive, ignorant or explicitly transphobic trans-exclusionary positions do little to improve toilet access for the majority, instead putting trans people, and others with visible markers of gender difference, at a greater risk of violence, and participating in the dangerous homogenisation of womanhood. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JHPYEX - Liverpool South Parkway station is a railway station and bus interchange in the Garston district of Liverpool, England. It serves, via a bus link, Liverpool John Lennon Airport in the neighbouring suburb of Speke, as well as providing an interchange between main line services and the Merseyrail rapid transit/commuter rail network
The station is located towards the southern end of Merseyrail's Northern Line and on the junction of two main lines: the City Line from Liverpool to Manchester via Warrington and the Liverpool branch of the West Coast Main Line to London via Crewe
Allerton Traction Maintenance Depot is situated to the immediate east of the station
The station was built at a crossing point between two railway lines that had until then been served by separate stations. The first was the Cheshire Lines Committee (CLC) line from Liverpool Central to Manchester via Warrington Central, which ran from west to east. The second was the line built by the St Helens Railway from Liverpool Lime Street to Warrington Bank Quay, which crossed from northwest to southeast. The latter route became part of the Liverpool branch of the West Coast Main Line when it was connected to a new route from Crewe via the newly built Runcorn Railway Bridge. The original line to Warrington Bank Quay is now closed to passenger trains. The two lines were served by two separate stations in the area, respectively Garston and Allerton (though the latter was also located in Garston)
The first proposals for an interchange station at Garston were made in the 1960s and 1970s, when the Merseyrail semi-underground network was being planned

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JCMKBX - Grappenhall Cricket Club, one of the premier Cheshire cricket clubs in the North-West. played its first game in 1881 on a ground in Bellhouse Lane. The club moved to its current home of Broad Lane in 1892 with a new clubhouse. There have been several new clubhouses built on the existing site with the most recent developments coming in the late 1980's with significant improvements to the facilities in 2011.
In the early days the club played a number of friendly matches. Grappers then played regular fixtures up to the 2nd World War. In 1939, before war broke out, Grappers were founder members of the North Cheshire League but the league was stopped at the start of the war and was never resumed. From the 1960's onwards GCC were members of the Manchester Association which was the prelude to the clubs most successful period.
The 70's & 80's the golden years
In 1981, after a couple of good seasons following promotion to the top division in the late 70's, the 1st XI won the top flight for the first time. One of Grappenhall's best teams, it included some famous Grappers names such as Duncan Martindale, Rick Houghton, Chris Ashton, Neil Titchard, Jim Green, Nick Sharp and a young Neil Fairbrother, only a few years before he headed off for big things with Lancashire and England.
In 1982, the 1st XI went one better, this time winning the league and cup double with the HC Cup Final being one of a number of appearances the club mate at Old Trafford in the 80's. The double was repeated in 1987 with another appearance at Old Trafford, this time with the team including another future Lancashire star and future Grappers captain in Steve Titchard. In the same season, the 2nd XI also tasted success by winning the Worthington Cup. There were a number of other cup successes for the club during this period for the different senior and junior teams, with many a memorable game taking place and the tales still being regaled today.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2ADR2DB - Hancock & Wood department store stands illuminated at dusk on Bridge Street in Warrington town centre during December, with Christmas lights, festive window displays and seasonal decorations across its multi-storey frontage. The independent family retailer opened on this site in 1914, founded by Frederick Hancock with David Wood helping to manage the business while Hancock served with the Royal Marines during the First World War. It expanded across the full frontage in 1933 and remained closely associated with generations of the Hancock family, becoming one of Warrington's best-known and longest-established shops.
The photograph records the store during a winter trading season before its announced closure in 2026 after 112 years. The company said the decision had not been taken lightly and cited rising employment costs, public utilities, business rates and legislation. Its closure marks the loss of a distinctive local business that survived two world wars, changing shopping habits, town-centre redevelopment, competition from national chains and online retailers, and the disruption of the coronavirus pandemic.
The image also illustrates pressures facing traditional bricks-and-mortar retail in British town centres. Independent department stores must support large premises, staffing, energy, insurance, stockholding and regulatory costs while competing with internet shopping, retail parks, supermarkets and major chains. Reduced footfall and changing consumer behaviour have left many long-established high street names vulnerable, even where customer loyalty remains strong.
Christmas garlands, illuminated Santa decorations and shop windows give the scene a warm seasonal atmosphere, contrasting with the sadness of the forthcoming closure. By Christmas 2026, the store may already have ceased trading, making this photograph a record of Warrington's commercial heritage, festive town-centre life and the final chapter of a fourth-generation family business

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DDXKGB - LGBT Warrington is organised by LGBT members who are all volunteers. The group has built great relationships with partners, which include the Council, police, health and local businesses.
They are here to help and welcome anyone who would like to join us to stamp out the stigma people may have on the LGBT community.
The group offers support to those who need it on a 1-2-1 basis and is treated with great confidentiality, and point people in the right direction of the services they require.
They meet throughout the year mainly to have a brew and chat about life in general, to meet and make new friends, and for those who require extra support, to help by signposting to relevant services in Warrington. We also at times hold activities such as bowling, theatre trips, quizzes and games.
They also have nights out in the town centre at Cotton Mill or Show Bar and take part with events they are holding, or even have the odd night out to Manchester to Canal Street or to the theatre.
During the year they are also visited by guest speakers.
They welcome visitors and potential new members whatever their sexuality, though is open to 18+ only.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy D96MWT - Description of the famous Thorn tree at Appleton Thorn village, South Warrington, England for the annual June Bawming the Thorn
Appleton Thorn is a village in the borough of Warrington in Cheshire, England.
Each June, the village hosts the ceremony of Bawming the Thorn. The current form of the ceremony dates from the Nineteenth century, when it was part of the village's walking day. It involved children from Appleton Thorn Primary School walking through the village and holding sports and games at the school. This now takes place at the Village Hall. The ceremony stopped in the 1930s, but was later revived by the then headmaster, Mr. Bob Jones in the early 1970s. Bawming the Thorn occurs on the Saturday nearest to Midsummer's Day. Local schoolchildren dance around the tree.
Bawming means decorating - during the ceremony the thorn tree is decorated with ribbons and garlands. According to legend, the hawthorn at Appleton Thorn grew from a cutting of the Holy Thorn at Glastonbury, which was itself said to have sprung from the staff of Joseph of Arimathea, the man who arranged for Jesus's burial after the Crucifixion.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy H28RFJ - This documentary stock photograph shows Asian wedding hands and jewellery, henna and gold. The subject is Asian wedding hands with henna, gold jewellery and decorative adornment, giving it strong editorial and commercial stock value for features on South Asian wedding customs, bridal preparation, mehndi, gold jewellery, fashion, family ceremony and cultural identity. The photograph works because it focuses on visible cultural detail rather than a vague celebration image, with close-up detail helping to tell a story about preparation, appearance, hospitality and shared tradition. South Asian weddings in Britain often bring together clothing, jewellery, food, family rituals, photography, venue hire, faith traditions, music, gifting and large-scale catering, making this kind of image useful across lifestyle, culture, food, religion, fashion, retail and community publishing. It can support articles about British Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities, wedding costs, gold markets, henna artistry, bridal fashion, multicultural Britain, event catering, family celebration, migration, identity and the social importance of weddings as community gatherings. If the image shows hands, it can be used for close-up stories about mehndi patterns, bangles, rings, bracelets, nail decoration, gold adornment and the symbolic meaning of touch, blessing, beauty and commitment. If it shows food, it can illustrate buffet service, vegetarian and meat dishes, chefs, catering labour, hospitality margins, food safety, menu planning and the economics of large family events. Search-friendly composite terms include Asian wedding jewellery, Indian bridal henna hands, South Asian wedding food, British multicultural wedding, gold bangles and mehndi, Indian buffet catering, Pakistani wedding celebration and Bangladeshi wedding tradition. They were a lovely bunch of comedy entertainers, recommended if they come to your corner of the world!
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe (The Fringe) is the world's largest arts festival, with the 2012 event spanning 25 days totalling over 2,695 shows from 47 countries in 279 venues. Established in 1947 as an alternative to the Edinburgh International Festival, it takes place annually in Scotland's capital, in the month of August. The Fringe is a showcase for the performing arts, particularly theatre and comedy (which has seen substantial growth in recent years), although dance and music are also represented. In 2012, 36% of shows were comedy and 28% theatrical productions. Theatrical productions range from the classics of ancient Greece to William Shakespeare, Samuel Beckett and contemporary works. In 2012, 1,418 shows were having their world premiere.
The Fringe is an unjuried festival \u2013 with no selection committee, and therefore any type of performance may participate. The Fringe has often showcased experimental works that might not be invited to a more conservative arts festival. In addition to ticketed, programmed events, the Festival has included a street fair, located primarily on the Royal Mile. The Festival is organized by the Festival Fringe Society, which publishes the programme, sells tickets, and offers advice to performers. Their offices are on the Royal Mile.

'Cherry Bomb' is a 1976 punk-influenced hard rock song by the all-girl band The Runaways off of their self-titled debut album. It is widely regarded by many as the band's signature song. 'Cherry Bomb' was also ranked 52nd on VH1's 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs.
Singer/guitarist Joan Jett composed the song with the band's then-manager, Kim Fowley, and would later go on to re-record it with her band the Blackhearts for the 1984 album Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth.
The Runaways' version of the song was used in the cult classic film Dazed and Confused, and was featured on its soundtrack album. It can also be heard as a partial cover song by JoJo in the movie RV and was covered by Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart, who played Runaways frontwoman Cherie Currie and Joan Jett, for the 2010 biopic film The Runaways.
The song has been re-recorded by Jett and Currie to be featured in the video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock as a playable song.

A track to enjoy with a drink in your hand or a bar of quality chocolate, this one.
The word 'morcheeba' is meant to indicate 'the way of cannabis'. This originated from 'MOR'(middle of the road) plus 'Cheeba' (informal name of cannabis).
Morcheeba mix pop, hip-hop, rock and electronica and are based in the UK. They have consisted of Paul &
Ross Godfrey, Skye Edwards and recently Daisy Martey, among many guests. Their debut album 'Who Can You Trust?' on China Records was released in April 1996.
This track comes from 'Big Calm' the second album which was more mainstream and pop-ey.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4722725822 - 'Boy you put me on the spot I don't know what to say
But I'm trying anyway
Like my hearts gonna drop
My mind drifts away and I can't control the pains
Words are spinning in my head
Don't know why I'm holding back
I should just tell you how I'm feeling yeah heh
But I don't wanna act a fool
Don't wanna look confused
If I let you know about the way I feel
Don't know what you gonna do
So I keep it locked inside
And imagine you were mine
And I'm feeling you so close but yet so far
You hold the key to my heart
The more I brush it off
Tell myself it's nothing at all
Deeper I fall
And I imagine everyday
A thousand different ways
How you respond to what I say
Am I getting lost in my dreams?
Are you unreachable to me?
Cause these butterflies just won't go away
I don't wanna act a fool
Don't wanna look confused
If I let you know about the way I feel
Don't know what you gonna do
So I keep it locked inside
And imagine lyricsmusicvideo.blogspot.com you were mine
And I'm feeling you so close but yet so far
You hold the key to my heart
But if I never tell you then you'll never know
And the secret is get-ting heavy to hold
This is more than just a crush
So I may stut-ter when I speak
And my knees may get a little weak
But I've got nothing to lose and only you to gain
Tell me do you feel the same
But I don't wanna act a fool
Don't wanna look confused
If I let you know about the way I feel

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4671529158 - 'These seem to be absolutely ubiquitous and after being a sceptic myself, now I have had one for a few weeks know why. The tie in to itunes and the appstore is a killer idea. You would have thought that Microsoft would have worked that out after the rise of the ipod and the concept of buying music by that channel.
Now, Windows mobile 7 is planned to cover the sames bases with the addition of a 'Bing' button (WTF?), but two years too late. While Apple look like your creative younger art school sister, Microsoft might be your older richer fuddy duddy sibling, set in his old ways.
The iPhone was originally released in 2007. An iPhone functions as a rather useful camera phone with the usual texting etc. It has its own portable media player, Safari a great pinch and stretch browser with Wi-Fi connectivity etc.
There are well over 200,000 apps each of which must approved by Apple. Presumably Apple take a few pennies from all those downloads. They tend to be the funky consumer apps, not really ones for business however. I am still looking for one that will allow me to find where there is not a Tesco store.
Some of the apps I have been playing with on mine include Lomo (a toy camera app), Autostitch (panorama software), Shazam (for identifying that obscure music track) and Met Office (to see when the rain will be arriving).
More iPhones than Blackberry's seem to be flying off the shelves with approching 40 million sold across the world. Also, these covers which are necessary to protect your iPhone. Of course you can get the gold and diamond covers, but beware, all that glitters may not be gold(!)

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4527546693 - 'These are the sunday helpers who feed the congregation at a hut rear of the church yard. There is a veritable Easter themed feast. I stumbled upon one of the ladies by chance and she kindly let me see the food spread.
The Collegiate Church of St Nicholas Buccleuch, formerly known as Dalkeith Parish Church, stands on the High Street. Dedicated to St Nicholas, this medieval church became a collegiate establishment in 1406, founded by Sir James Douglas. The nave and transepts date from 1854, when the inside of the church was greatly altered. The chancel was abandoned in 1590, walled off from the rest of the church, and is now ruinous. Sir James Douglas, 1st Earl of Morton, and his wife Joanna, daughter of James I, are buried in the choir and have stone effigies. St Nicholas Buccleuch Church remains one of the two Church of Scotland parish churches in Dalkeith.
The ladies had prepared some Hot Cross Buns. These have a chequered history. These are traditionally eaten hot or toasted on Good Friday, with the cross standing as a symbol of The Crucifixion. They are believed by some to pre-date Christianity, although the first recorded use of the term 'hot cross bun' is not until 1733.
Legend has it that buns marked with a cross were eaten by Saxons in honour of the goddess Eostre (the cross is thought to have symbolised the four quarters of the moon). 'Eostre' is probably the origin of the name 'Easter' too
According to cookery writer Elizabeth David, Protestant English monarchs saw the buns as a dangerous hold-over of Catholic belief in England, being baked from the dough used in making the communion wafer. Protestant England attempted to ban the sale of the buns by bakers but they were too popular, and instead Elizabeth I passed a law permitting bakeries to sell them, but only at Easter and Christmas.
Unfortunately I did not have time to sample any of these delights.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AE026P - Girls,Girls,Girls, red neon,XXX,X-Rated has the strength of a real-world scene: ordinary enough to be believable, but specific enough to support precise editorial use. Red neon advertising adult entertainment uses a deliberately blunt visual language of sex, night-time commerce and urban spectacle. The subject can illustrate red-light districts, nightlife, censorship, gender politics, neon typography, city economies after dark and the uneasy boundary between entertainment, exploitation and visual culture. The location wording gives the subject enough geographic context for local and regional editorial use while avoiding a generic studio feel. It can work both as a straightforward location record and as a wider editorial illustration of the habits, services, buildings, symbols and small commercial details that shape everyday life.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy D96MWA - Appleton Thorn is a village in the borough of Warrington in Cheshire, England.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy H28RFC - This documentary stock photograph shows Asian Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi wedding hands and jewellery, beautiful henna and gold adornments.
