Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HEJ6CY - Camden Town often shortened to Camden (ambiguously also used for the much larger London Borough of Camden of which it is the central neighbourhood), is an inner city district of northwest London, 2.4 miles (3.9 km) north of the centre of London. It is one of the 35 major centres identified in the London Plan.
Laid out as a residential district from 1791 and originally part of the manor of Kentish Town and the parish of St Pancras, London, Camden Town became an important location during the early development of the railways, which reinforced its position on the London canal network. The area's industrial economic base has been replaced by service industries such as retail, tourism and entertainment. The area now hosts street markets and music venues which are strongly associated with alternative culture.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F7DC86 - BEA operated to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East from airports around the United Kingdom. The airline was also the largest UK domestic operator, serving major British cities, including London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast, as well as remote areas of the British Isles such as the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. From 1946 until 1974, BEA operated a network of internal German routes between West Berlin and West Germany as well.
Formed as the British European Airways division of British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) on 1 January 1946, BEA became a crown corporation in its own right on 1 August 1946.
Inflight smoking is prohibited by almost all airlines
smoking on domestic U.S. airliners, for instance, was banned for almost all routes beginning in 1988, with all planes being smoke-free by the end of the 1990s. According to FAA regulations, smoking lit cigarettes or anything else that produces smoke or flame is prohibited onboard most commercial aircraft. However, the FAA has not issued a regulation for or against electronic cigarettes, leaving that decision up to the individual airlines

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F7DE1H - Editorial stock photograph of the raised metal Gazprom House sign on a pale stone or rendered building frontage in Kingston upon Thames, London, associated with the Russian state-linked energy giant Gazprom and its former UK trading and retail presence. The close-up view shows large grey three-dimensional letters spelling GAZPROM HOUSE, with dappled sunlight, shadow, a window edge and an urban office exterior giving the image a documentary corporate headquarters feel. The photograph is suitable for news, business, energy, politics and sanctions coverage relating to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, European dependence on Russian gas, the weaponisation of energy supply, gas trading, fossil fuel geopolitics, security of supply, sanctions compliance and the reputational impact on Russian-linked companies in Britain. Gazprom became one of the best-known symbols of Russian energy power, and its brand was closely scrutinised after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, when the UK, EU and allies expanded sanctions against Russian individuals, banks, energy interests, shipping, trade and financial services. Former UK Gazprom businesses were later rebranded under the SEFE name, while public records show historic Gazprom House addresses at 60 Marina Place, Hampton Wick, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 4BH, and later London offices at 20 Triton Street. The image can illustrate stories about sanctions, divestment, nationalisation, supply-chain risk, procurement due diligence, corporate governance, energy security, gas markets, LNG, European winter supply pressures, oil and gas trading, Russian state influence, public-sector supplier checks and the wider economic fallout from the Ukraine war. The tight composition, stark lettering and absence of people make it a strong concept image for a once-normal commercial presence becoming politically charged, legally sensitive and reputationally toxic after Russia's aggression in Ukraine.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F7DFEA - The Old Vic is a theatre located just south-east of Waterloo Station in London on the corner of The Cut and Waterloo Road. Established in 1818 as the Royal Coburg Theatre, it was taken over by Emma Cons in 1880 when it was known formally as the Royal Victoria Hall. In 1898, a niece of Cons, Lilian Baylis assumed management and began a series of Shakespeare productions in 1914. The building was damaged in 1940 during air raids and it became a Grade II* listed building in 1951 after it reopened.
It was also the name of a repertory company that was based at the theatre and formed the core of the National Theatre of Great Britain on its formation in 1963, under Laurence Olivier. The National Theatre remained at the Old Vic until new premises were constructed on the South Bank, opening in 1976. The Old Vic then became the home of Prospect Theatre Company, at that time a highly successful touring company which staged such acclaimed productions as Derek Jacobi's Hamlet. However, with the withdrawal of funding for the company by the Arts Council of Great Britain in 1980 for breaching its touring obligations, Prospect disbanded in 1981. The theatre underwent complete refurbishment in 1985. In 2003, Kevin Spacey was appointed as new artistic director of the Old Vic Theatre Company which received considerable media attention. In 2015, Matthew Warchus was appointed the new Artistic Director.
On May 26, 2022, Spacey was charged by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the United Kingdom with four counts of sexual assault against three complainants. The alleged offenses occurred between 2005 and 2013 in London and Gloucestershire. According to the Crown Prosecution Service, it would be possible to formally charge Spacey only if he entered England or Wales, which would entail extradition if Spacey refused to do so voluntarily. Nevertheless, in a statement to Good Morning America on May 31, 2022, Spacey said that he would voluntarily appear in the U.K. as soon as can be arrange

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy ED9EPN - A necktie or simply tie is a long piece of cloth worn for decorative purposes around the neck or shoulders, resting under the shirt collar and knotted at the throat.
Variants include the ascot tie, bow tie, bolo tie, zipper tie, cravat and clip-on tie. The modern necktie, ascot, and bow tie are descended from the cravat. Neck ties are generally unsized, but may be available in a longer size. Men and boys wear neckties as part of regular office attire or formal wear.
Neckties can also be worn as part of a uniform (e.g. military, school and waitstaff), whereas some choose to wear them as everyday clothing attire. Neckties are traditionally worn with the top shirt button fastened, and the tie knot resting between the collar points. Among younger men, neckties are sometimes worn as a casual item, tied loosely around the neck, with the top shirt button unfastened

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy EBFWFN - Richmond is an affluent suburban town in southwest London, 8.2 miles (13.2 km) west-southwest of Charing Cross. The town is on a meander of the River Thames, with a large number of parks and open spaces, including Richmond Park, and many protected conservation areas, which include much of Richmond Hill. A specific Act of Parliament protects the scenic view of the River Thames from Richmond.
Richmond was founded following Henry VII's building of Richmond Palace in the 16th century, from which the town derives its name (the Palace itself was named for Henry's earldom of Richmond, North Yorkshire.) During this era the town and palace were particularly associated with Elizabeth I, who spent her last days here. During the 18th century Richmond Bridge was completed and many Georgian terraces were built, particularly around Richmond Green and on Richmond Hill. These remain well preserved and many have listed building architectural or heritage status. The opening of the railway station in 1846 was a significant event in the absorption of the town into a rapidly expanding London.
Richmond was formerly part of the ancient parish of Kingston upon Thames in the county of Surrey. In 1890 the town became a municipal borough, which was later extended to include Kew, Ham, Petersham and part of Mortlake (North Sheen). The municipal borough was abolished in 1965 when, as a result of boundary changes, Richmond was transferred to Greater London.
Richmond is now part of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It has a significant commercial and retail centre with a developed day and evening economy.

INXS (pronounced 'in excess', In-X-S) are an Australian rock band, formed as The Farriss Brothers in 1977 in Sydney, New South Wales. Mainstays are Garry Gary Beers on bass guitar, Andrew Farriss on guitar/keyboards, Jon Farriss on drums, Tim Farriss on lead guitar and Kirk Pengilly on guitar/sax.
In the early 1980s, INXS first charted in their native Australia with their debut self-titled album, but later garnered moderate success elsewhere with Shabooh Shoobah and a single, 'The One Thing'. Though The Swing brought more success from around the world, its single 'Original Sin' was even greater commercially, becoming their first number-one single. They would later achieve international success with a series of hit recordings through later in the 1980s and the 1990s, including the albums Listen Like Thieves, Kick, and X
and the singles 'What You Need', 'Need You Tonight', 'Devil Inside', 'New Sensation', and 'Suicide Blonde'.
Hutchence's private life was often reported in the Australian and international press, with a string of love affairs with prominent actresses, models and singers. Hutchence's relationship with UK television presenter, Paula Yates, began while she was still married to music artist and Live Aid organiser, Saint Bob Geldof.
Hutchence and Yates had a daughter in 1996 just after she had divorced Geldof. Hutchence's death in 1997 was determined by the New South Wales Coroner to be the result of suicide – the finding was disputed by Yates, Hutchence's family and his fans. In 2000, Yates died of a heroin overdose and their daughter was placed in Geldof's custody with her half-sisters.

The first single (and a later re-issue) from the Eastbourne band Toploader. I think this really sums up 'The Meeting Place' , a sculpture by Paul Day. Its a 9 metre (29.53 feet) tall bronze statue in St Pancras railway station in London, surrounded by a frieze.
There are images from the history of the Tube and train: people queuing on platforms or travelling in carriages
soldiers departing for war and returning injured, and repair works following the 7 July 2005 London bombings. The work was the object of controversy when first erected, as one panel depicted a commuter falling into the path of a train driven by the Grim Reaper. However, following discussions with London and Continental Railways (LCR), this panel was replaced with another.

Blondie is an American rock band, founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. The band was a pioneer in the early American New Wave and punk scenes of the mid-1970s at CBGB's in New York.
Their first two albums contained strong elements of these genres, and although successful in the United Kingdom and Australia, Blondie was regarded as an underground band in the United States until the release of Parallel Lines in 1978. Over the next three years, the band achieved several hit singles and became noted for its eclectic mix of musical styles incorporating elements of disco, pop, rap, and reggae, while retaining a basic style as a New Wave band.
Blondie broke up after the release of their sixth studio album The Hunter in 1982. Debbie Harry continued to pursue a solo career with varied results after taking a few years off to care for partner Chris Stein, who was diagnosed with pemphigus, a rare autoimmune disease of the skin.
The band reformed in 1997, achieving renewed success and a number one single in the United Kingdom with 'Maria' in 1999. The group toured and performed throughout the world during the following years, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Blondie has sold 40 million records worldwide and is still active today, with a new album, Panic of Girls, released 30 May 2011 in the UK.
Prostitution itself is legal in the UK: a person can buy sexual services and working as a private prostitute or outcall escort is legal – but many related activities are not. This includes kerb crawling, pimping, keeping a brothel, advertising the services of call girls by placing cards (“tart cards”) in phone boxes, like these here and having sex in public. The laws apply to both male and female prostitutes and male and female clients.
Under the Street Offences Act 1959, it is illegal for a prostitute to wait for or solicit business in a street or public place, effectively making street prostitution illegal. Although assistance should be given to assist offenders in finding a route out of prostitution, prostitutes may be punished. Usually first or second time offenders will be cautioned, third and fourth time offenders are usually arrested and charged and on the fifth offence an anti-social behaviour order may be issued on conviction.
