Introduction
The term scouse refers to Liverpool English. An inhabitant of Liverpool is a Liverpudlian or Scouse(r) The Scouse accent is well-know throughout Britain and the world mainly due to the Beatles and other Liverool pop groups and singers from the 60s. Nowadays, among some people it not considered to be among the nicest of English accents. Only the Birmingham accent is considered uglier. Scouse has a velarized or adenoidal quality that gives it a sound peculiar to this accent. Of course, for the people of Liverpool, Scouse is an integral part of their identity and well loved.
Vowels
Liverpool is a Northern accent and therefore the FOOT and STRUT words are both pronounced with a /??/. One of the most distinguishable characteristics of Liverpool English is the SQUARE diphthong . Compare Liverpool /??/ with RP /e?/. You can hear it when George Harrison pronounces the word declare in the song Taxman on the Revolver album. Words like book and cook are pronounced [bu?k, ku?k] instead of the RP /b??k, k??k/.
Consonants
Sometimes initial /?/ is pronounced as a [d?] just like in some varieties of American English. Words like ring and bring are pronounced /?g/, that is, with a final /g/ sound. It is one of the largest carnival events in Germany and, along with the Cologne and D?sseldorfer carnivals, Mainz is one of the three cities prominent in the rhenish carnival tradition. Aside from the celebrations, parades, and jollity which are typical of carnival traditions in many countries, the Mainz carnival has an unusual emphasis on political and literary humor and commentary.
The tradition of carnival can be traced back to the Christian moveable feasts, where Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and occurs forty-six days (forty days not counting Sundays) before Easter. The first written records of the tradition date from the 13th and 14th century. By that time, regulations against excessive gluttony and debauchery during the days before carnival had been established.

Traditionally, carnival season in Mainz begins on November 11 at 11:11, and continues through Ash Wednesday. However, the event peaks in February or March in the days leading up to Ash Wednesday.

During November 2016, the Department for Transport (DfT) announced the InterCity West Coast franchise would be replaced by the West Coast Partnership (WCP). In August 2019, the DfT awarded the WCP franchise to the First Trenitalia consortium. On 8 December 2019, Avanti West Coast took over operations from the prior operating company Virgin Trains, which had run the franchise since 1997. Originally, the franchise was initially scheduled to run until March 2030, and had also been set to operate the initial High Speed 2 services from 2026. However, during December 2020, it was announced that First Trenitalia and the DfT had agreed to terminate the WCP franchise at the earlier date of 31 March 2026 as part of the abolition of the franchise system. Since then a number of contract changes have taken place due to COVID-19 and then poor performance by the company. As of March 2023, the company's contract will expire in October 2023.
Between 14 August and 18 September 2022, Avanti West Coast reduced its timetable, citing unofficial strike action from its employees. However, this allegation was disputed by Aslef, which accused the company of lying and blamed their lack of recruitment, especially of train drivers, for the problems. Trains were running at one service per hour on the majority of routes, as opposed to the three which would typically occur on the London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly route. Scotland Yard historian Lindsay Siviter was invited by the Whitechapel Society to unveil a plaque on the wall of Happy Days restaurant in Goulston Street where the Ripper is known to have scrawled graffiti on the night of two of his killings on September 30, 1888.
The restaurant is part of an old block of flats, one of the few remaining buildings still surviving from that era.
It is built over what used to be the entrance to Wentworth Dwellings, where the Ripper dumped an apron belonging to one of his victims that night, before daubing his macabre message.
This doorway is special?its where Jack the Ripper is known to have been after the murders, Lindsay explained.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2DC9382 - Sir Kenneth Arthur Dodd OBE (8 November 1927 ? 11 March 2018) was an English comedian, singer and occasional actor. He was described as the last great music hall entertainer, and was primarily known for his live stand-up performances.
A lifelong resident of Knotty Ash in Liverpool, Dodd's career as an entertainer started in the mid-1950s. His performances included rapid and incessant delivery of often surreal jokes, and would run for several hours, frequently past midnight. His verbal and physical comedy was supplemented by his red, white and blue tickling stick prop, and often introduced by his characteristic upbeat greeting of How tickled I am! He interspersed the comedy with songs, both serious and humorous, and with his original speciality, ventriloquism. He also had several hit singles primarily as a ballad singer in the 1960s, and occasionally appeared in dramatic roles. He performed on radio and television, and popularised the characters of the Diddy Men.
Dodd was described as the last great music hall entertainer.[14] His stand-up comedy style was fast and relied on the rapid delivery of one-liner jokes. He said that his comic influences included other Liverpool comedians like Arthur Askey, Robb Wilton, Tommy Handley and the cheeky chappy from Brighton, Max Miller
Dodd had many hit records, charting on 18 occasions in the UK Top 40, including his first single Love Is Like a Violin (1960), produced on Decca Records by Alex Wharton, which charted at number 8 (UK). His version of Bill Anderson's song Happiness charted in 1964 and became Dodd's signature song

SELF-made Manchester mosaicist Mark Kennedy has had seven mosaic art pieces installed on Tib Street along the wall of Affleck's Palace. The colourful and cracked pieces feature the likes of Eric Cantona, Colin Bell, Karl Marx, Morrissey, Ian Brown, Emmeline Pankhurst, Bet Lynch and many other 'legends' associated with Manchester.
In total Kennedy has spent almost 20 years crafting the two sets of mosaics amongst other on-going work. The theme on Affleck's is Manchester heroes, with a nod given the shopping bazaar's rock'n'roll past. Thus among the great figures of Manchester depicted there are musicians, actors, media and radical politicians.
He also couldn't help including something from his own Manchester memories of Tib Street.
When I was a little kid I used to go to Tib Street all the time to get my ferrets and buy mice from a little pet shop and that's where we all used to go. Next door was Tib Street Joke Shop that used to sell masks and stink bombs so there's one piece that represents all that.
You have to have a closer look at some of the new mosaics to fully appreciate them with some of them holding a few hidden surprises. Kennedy's take on Joy Division's classic Unknown Pleasures album cover features several tiny coloured tile fragments to set it apart from the now iconic original.
