Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R3YB9N - This image shows Chi Chi + The Pasta Family operating a street food stall at Old Spitalfields Market in East London. The stall features bold branding and a fully open kitchen, allowing customers to watch pasta being prepared and cooked to order.
Chi Chi + The Pasta Family specialises in Italian street food, with a focus on fresh pasta dishes inspired by traditional Italian cooking and adapted for the fast-paced market environment. Clear menu boards, bright lighting, and staff in branded clothing create a strong visual identity and reinforce the stall's emphasis on quality, speed, and approachability.
The photograph captures a moment of interaction between staff and customer during service, reflecting the informal, social nature of street food culture. The surrounding market setting situates the business within one of London's best-known food destinations, popular with office workers, residents, and tourists.
Taken indoors under artificial lighting within the covered market, the image is well suited to editorial use covering London street food, independent food businesses, Italian cuisine, market culture, casual dining, and the everyday life of Old Spitalfields Market.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R55J7D - This long, wide panoramic image shows a green-liveried Avanti West Coast Class 390 Pendolino standing at Crewe railway station, one of the most important junctions on the West Coast Main Line. The train carries prominent environmental branding reading Our Planet Means The World To Us, reflecting Avanti West Coast's sustainability and carbon-reduction messaging.
The Class 390 Pendolino fleet forms the backbone of high-speed electric intercity services linking London with the North West, West Midlands, North Wales, and Scotland. Known for their tilting capability, Pendolinos are designed to maintain higher speeds on curving mainline routes while remaining fully electric, reinforcing rail's role as a lower-carbon alternative to road and air travel.
The image's wide, side-on composition emphasises the length of the train and the bold green graphics applied across multiple carriages, making it particularly suitable for layouts requiring panoramic or banner-style imagery. The platform environment and partial station architecture situate the scene within an active mainline railway setting.
Photographed in daylight at platform level, the image is well suited to editorial use covering UK rail transport, sustainable travel, rolling-stock branding, climate messaging in public transport, and modern intercity rail operations.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K90G1E - Country of origin or place of provenance
In accordance with the FIC Regulations, the indication of the country of origin or place of provenance of a food shall be mandatory where failure to indicate this might mislead the consumer as to the true country of origin or place of provenance of the food. Consumers might be misled without this information, for example a Melton Mowbray Pork pie which was made in Italy.
Under the FIC Regulations there are specific origin rules which must be adhered to, including the Country of Origin for Primary Ingredients and Country of Origin for Certain Meats.
Find out when you must label your meat, fish or seafood product with its country of origin (Opens in a new window).
In NI, EU Country of Origin rules, as applied by the Northern Ireland Protocol (NIP), are applicable for food placed on the NI market. Where EU Law requires an indication of a Member State in respect to country of origin, food businesses must ensure that where food has originated in Northern Ireland, such indications should be in the form UK(NI) or United Kingdom (Northern Ireland).

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K1Y7T2 - Glossop Town Hall, Market Hall, and Municipal Buildings is a complex in the centre of Glossop, Derbyshire, providing offices for High Peak Borough Council, a retail arcade, and covered market. The Town Hall was constructed in 1838 and significantly extended and altered in 1845, 1897 and 1923. The Town Hall building was designed by Weightman and Hadfield of Sheffield for the 12th Duke of Norfolk. It is constructed from millstone grit ashlar and topped with a distinctive circular cupola and clock. It is Grade II listed, forming a group with the market and Municipal Buildings to the south, and rows of shops to High Street West either side which were also part of Hadfield's design, and which marked the transition of Howard Town from a satellite industrial village to a freestanding urban entity.
It lies in the Norfolk Square Conservation Area which includes a number of other listed buildings around the square. The main elevation, intact with many surviving architectural details, forms an important part of the composition of the historic Norfolk Square. A blue plaque was erected by Glossop Heritage Trust in 2015 to commemorate its architect Matthew Ellison Hadfield and his contribution to the area.
The building is Italianate in style and designed in its original form as a T-plan. The north elevation fronts High Street West opposite Norfolk Square with the taller town hall block surrounded by four shops either side. One of the domed pavilions on the ends has now been demolished. The ground floor has vermiculated rustication and a central five-bay open arcade (leading to the market hall) with round arches and Tuscan Doric columns, flanked by single doorways with double doors and moulded ashlar surrounds and bracketed hoods. There is a square clock turret on the roof with a circular cupola.
Facing south, connected to the market hall and Town Hall, is the Municipal Buildings of 1923, which still serves as council offices, a function shared with Buxton Town Hall

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JTF49W - Saltaire United Reformed Church (originally Saltaire Congregational Church) is a church at Saltaire, West Yorkshire, England. Commissioned and paid for by Titus Salt in the mid 19th century, the church is a Grade I listed building and sits within the Saltaire World Heritage Site.
When Titus Salt, a devoted member of the Congregational church, commenced the design and construction of his model village at Saltaire, a Congregational church was the first public building commissioned. Salt donated the land and paid for the cost of the church himself, a cost of ?16,000 (equivalent to ?1,713,080 in 2021).
The church was designed, as was the rest of Saltaire, by the Bradford-based architect partnership of Lockwood and Mawson in the Italianate Classical style. Local firms were used for the works. The firm of John Ives did the woodwork and carvings while Moulton Brothers undertook the masonry work.
Since 1972 the church has been known as Saltaire United Reformed Church following the merger of Congregational Church in England and Wales and the Presbyterian Church of England.
The ceiling of the church was badly damaged and partially collapsed due to being affected by Storm Dennis in February 2020

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JD0ME1 - As far back as 1252 there has been a townhouse on the Liverpool shore. Sir John Stanley pulled down the old house in 1406 and built the first Tower known as the Tower of Liverpool. This was used as an embarkation base for their property in the Isle of Man. The Tower stood at the shore end of Water Street.
Water street being one of the original seven streets of Liverpool was originally called ?Bonke Street'. ?Bonke' was Lancashire dialect for ?bank' (taken from river bank). Through the years it became Bank Street and then eventually Water Street in 1520's.
During the 18th century the Tower of Liverpool, between Tower gardens and Stringers alley was the Jail of Liverpool. A large arch joined the Tower to the building on the other side of Tower Gardens and this building was used to house debtors and Criminals.
The Tower ceased being a jail on 3rd July 1811 when all the criminals were moved to the new jail in Great Howard Street. In 1877 two men convicted of robbery were executed in Water Street opposite the Old Tower.
By the end of the 18th century the Tower was in disrepair and was pulled down in 1819 to be replaced by warehouses.
In 1856 the warehouses gave way to the second Tower called Tower Buildings, a large Italianate office block by J. A. Picton. Unfortunately The Tower fell foul to the demands of commerce and was demolished in the early 20th century.
The present Tower Building, designed by Walter Aubrey Thomas was completed around 1908. Walter Aubrey Thomas is not to be confused with his contemporary, Walter W. Thomas, who designed the Philharmonic Dining Rooms , ?The Phil' and The Vines, ?The Big House'. It was possibly to avoid confusion that he always styled himself as W. Aubrey Thomas
During the air raids over Liverpool in 1941 Tower Building was badly bombed and several people were killed and injured. Check out the BBC site for the real life story.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AE02K4 - It is arguably the most divisive food-related debate: the question of whether pineapple is an appropriate pizza topping is a controversial one.
But are a few chunks of tangy pineapple on a pizza really so bad? It doesn't seem possible considering pineapple made it to the list of 10 most popular pizza toppings. (Although it only makes the ninth spot, just ahead of spinach.)
To get to the bottom of this debate and decide on a winning side once and for all, we reached out to pizza chefs across the US for their opinions on the appropriateness of pineapple. As the gatekeepers to pizza, we felt they must have a good grasp of what constitutes an acceptable pizza topping.
In a somewhat surprising turn of events, it seems that many pizza chefs, even the old-school Italian ones, have given in to the requests of the masses.
As it turns out, the customer is always right, as the saying goes, even when it comes irreverent requests such as pineapple on traditional pizza.

Chef Anthony Carron of 800 Degrees Pizzeria is one chef who has had to put his own beliefs aside in order to make his customers happy. Carron, who is adamant that he personally would never eat pineapple on a pizza, nor would any self-respecting Italian, has had to change his stubborn attitude towards pineapple on pizza. When he first opened 800 Degrees, he refused to carry it on principle, but it was literally the number one requested topping that we did not carry.

Finally relenting after a few years on behalf of their great customers, Carron now allows pineapple in his pizzeria, under one condition. Refusing to just serve garbage canned pineapple tidbits he instead buys whole, fresh Hawaiian gold pineapples, which are then peeled and diced by hand, tossed with extra virgin olive oil and sea salt, and roasted in their wood-burning ovens until they are caramelized, which actually sounds incredibly delicious.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K43PNE - The new building, which was designed in the Italianate style by John Ladds and William Henry Powell, was completed in 1879. The design involved a symmetrical main frontage with five bays facing onto Market Street with the end bays slightly projected forward
the central section, which also slightly projected forward, featured a doorway on the ground floor with brackets supporting a pediment containing a carved tympanum with a tall clock tower above
there were sash windows on the first and second floors. The principal rooms were a large assembly hall, which later became known as the Lancastrian Room, the council chamber and town clerk's office.
The town hall became the headquarters of the new Municipal Borough of Chorley in 1881. In the early years the basement was used for a butter market and, in the early 20th century, the assembly room was used as a cinema. Meanwhile the old town hall was demolished in the 1930s. The building remained the local seat of government when the enlarged Borough of Chorley was formed in 1974. In the 1980s, a control centre was established in the basement for the protection of civic leaders in the event of a nuclear attack. Although most council officers and their departments relocated to the Civic Offices in Union Street in the late 20th century, council meetings continued to be held in the town hall.
An extensive programme of refurbishment works at the town hall was completed in 2005. The works, which were designed by Seed Architects, involved re-instatement of the main entrance under the clock tower and the creation of a glass-roofed atrium with glass passenger lifts to facilitate easy movement of customers within the building. After several incidents involving damage to facilities and abuse of staff, the Lancastrian Room, ceased to be available for private hire in 2009

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2BCTGXG - Stockport Town Hall is a building in Stockport, England, that houses government and administrative functions. It was designed by architect Sir Alfred Brumwell Thomas who had previously designed Belfast City Hall. Stockport Town Hall was designated a Grade II listed building in 1975,[1] upgraded to Grade II* in September 2007.[2]
It was opened by the then Prince and Princess of Wales in July 1908. To commemorate the Royal visit, part of Heaton Lane, a main shopping street in the town, was renamed Prince's Street.[3][4][5]
Council and committee meetings take place during the evening in three oak-panelled committee rooms and in a traditional Council Chamber. The chamber has elaborate plasterwork, brass chandeliers and decorative carvings on oak benches. The civic collection of silver, some of which dates from the 15th century, lines the wall of the corridor outside the chamber. Stockport Town Hall is a licensed Wedding venue. Weddings and receptions are a frequent occurrence at the Town Hall.
An imposing Italian marble entrance leads to the Edwardian Ballroom, which former poet laureate Sir John Betjeman described as magnificent. This contains a Wurlitzer organ formerly installed in Manchester's Paramount Theatre and moved to Manchester's Free Trade Hall in 1977 subsequently being moved to Stockport Town Hall and being opened at Stockport in late 1999. The Wurlitzer, a 'Publix 1' was one of only sixteen of its kind in the world and was designed by the American Theatre Organist Jesse Crawford for the accompaniment of silent films. The Manchester Paramount instrument was unique in being the only one to be exported to a theatre outside the United States. The organ has been fully overhauled and the old relays have been replaced with digital technology. Various changes to the organ's original specification have been carried out throughout its life both in the theatre and its subsequent homes. The organ was installed and is owned by the Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trust

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2BCTGXW - Stockport Town Hall is a building in Stockport, England, that houses government and administrative functions.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RG9AER - Prosecco is an Italian white wine. Prosecco controlled designation of origin can be spumante (sparkling wine), frizzante (semi-sparkling wine), or tranquillo (still wine). It is made from Glera grapes, formerly known also as Prosecco, but other grape varieties may be included. The following varieties are traditionally used with Glera up to a maximum of 15 per cent of the total: Verdiso, Bianchetta Trevigiana, Perera, Glera lunga, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir. The name Prosecco is derived from the Italian village of Prosecco near Trieste, where the grape and wine originated.
Prosecco DOC is produced in nine provinces spanning the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions. Prosecco Superiore DOCG comes in two varieties: Prosecco Conegliano Valdobbiadene Superiore DOCG, which can only be made in the Treviso province of Veneto on the hills between the towns of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene (north of Treviso), and the smaller Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG, produced near the town of Asolo.
Prosecco is the main ingredient of the Bellini cocktail and can be a less expensive substitute of Champagne. It is also a key ingredient of venetian spritz, a popular cocktail in northern Italy.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy P4HWNT - Pescetarianism or pescatarianism is the practice of adhering to a diet that incorporates seafood as the only source of meat in an otherwise vegetarian diet. Most pescetarians are ovo-lacto vegetarians who eat seafood along with dairy products and eggs, often colloquially defined as fish but no other meat. Vegetarian groups have had to clarify that pescetarian diets fall outside of the range of vegetarianism.
In 2018, Ipsos MORI reported 73% of people followed a conventional pattern diet where both meat and non-animal products were regularly consumed, with 14% considered as flexitarians, 5% vegetarians, 3% vegans, and 3% pescetarians. A 2018 poll of 2,000 United Kingdom adults found that 12% of adults adhered to a meat free diet, with 2% vegan, 6-7% ovo-lacto-vegetarian, and 4% pescetarian.
Plant foods, such as fresh produce, make up most of a pescetarian diet
Seafoods are part of a pescetarian diet
As a plant-based diet, pescetarianism is similar to many traditional diets emphasizing plant foods as well as seafood. Regular fish consumption and decreased red meat consumption are recognized as dietary practices that may promote health

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy ED9E51 - A necktie or simply tie is a long piece of cloth worn for decorative purposes around the neck or shoulders, resting under the shirt collar and knotted at the throat.
Variants include the ascot tie, bow tie, bolo tie, zipper tie, cravat and clip-on tie. The modern necktie, ascot, and bow tie are descended from the cravat. Neck ties are generally unsized, but may be available in a longer size. Men and boys wear neckties as part of regular office attire or formal wear.
Neckties can also be worn as part of a uniform (e.g. military, school and waitstaff), whereas some choose to wear them as everyday clothing attire. Neckties are traditionally worn with the top shirt button fastened, and the tie knot resting between the collar points. Among younger men, neckties are sometimes worn as a casual item, tied loosely around the neck, with the top shirt button unfastened

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HEEGB3 - Opened by Felix O'Hanlon as The Railway Tavern, the pub was then bought by Michael Fanigan. Fanigan's son Patrick renamed and renovated the pub in 1885.
The Crown owes its elaborate tiling, stained glass and woodwork to the Italian craftsmen whom Fanigan persuaded to work on the pub after hours. These craftsmen were brought to Ireland to work on the many new churches being built in Belfast at the time. It was this high standard of work that gave the Crown the reputation of being one of the finest Victorian Gin Palaces of its time.
In 1978, the National Trust, following persuasion by people including Sir John Betjeman, purchased the property and three years later completed a ?400,000 renovation to restore the bar to its original Victorian state. Further restoration by the National Trust was done in 2007 at a cost of ?500,000. This work is the subject of a BBC Northern Ireland documentary, The Crown Jewel, screened in 2008.
A recognisable landmark of Belfast, the pub has featured as a location in numerous film and television productions, such as David Caffrey's Divorcing Jack (1998) and Carol Reed's classic 1947 film Odd Man Out.
The Crown has been given a Grade A Listed Building status by the Environment and Heritage Service.

1924 Archie opened a larger tearoom above the shop. The bakers shop and tearoom are still there today.
Boyd Tunnock, Archie's younger son was given the task of developing a new product. Boyd did a lot of market research and further developed the idea of using Italian meringue. He made a biscuit base, hand piped the mallow onto the base and covered in milk chocolate. The Teacake made its first appearance in 1956.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AT9E83 - The Festival dei Due Mondi (Festival of the Two Worlds) is an annual summer music and opera festival held each June to early July in Spoleto, Italy, since its founding by composer Gian Carlo Menotti in 1958. It features a vast array of concerts, opera, dance, drama, visual arts and roundtable discussions on science.
The Two Worlds in the name of the festival comes from Gian Carlo Menotti's intention to have the worlds of American and European culture facing each other in his event
this concept would then be strengthened by the fact that it was held in conjunction with its twin, the Spoleto Festival USA held annually in May/June in Charleston, South Carolina. That twinning lasted some 15 years and, after growing disputes between the Menotti family and the board of Spoleto Festival USA, in the early 1990s a separation occurred. Under Menotti's direction in 1986, a third installment in the Spoleto Festival series was held in Melbourne, Australia. Melbourne's Spoleto Festival changed its name to the Melbourne International Festival of the Arts in 1990.
Following Menotti's death in 2007, changes occurred in the administration with the result that the Italian Minister of Cultural Affairs appointed a new Artistic Administrator who continues to run the Festival.
