It is located in the City of Westminster, London and includes 100 residential apartments. The building was opened on 6 July 1994 and was designed by Richard Rogers and Partners.
After a selection process during the autumn of 1990, Channel 4 invited three architectural firms to take part in a competition to design their 15,000 m2 (160,000 sq ft) headquarters building on the south-eastern corner of Chadwick Street and Horseferry Road in a mixed development area of Westminster. The site consisted of an abandoned 10 m (33 ft) deep basement of a proposed 1970s post office building. The architectural brief also incorporated a requirement for a residential development of two blocks of flats including 100 apartments, an underground car park and a small public landscaped park. The three firms chosen were Bennetts Associates, Richard Rogers and Partners and James Stirling.
The Richard Rogers Partnership was chosen from the shortlist. This was the first major building that they had designed since the Lloyd's building (1978-1986). Construction began in 1990 and was completed in 1994. It was built on a design and build basis. The building consists of two four-storey office blocks that are connected to a central entrance block in an L shape. The entrance has a concave glazed wall. The building is finished in grey steel cladding, which is perforated by red-ochre steel struts. John Young, the project architect, said that the colour was taken from a paint sample provided by the City of San Francisco: it is the same colour as the Golden Gate Bridge.

Admiral Martin Dunbar-Nasmith, who had been Commander-in-Chief, Plymouth, also took over responsibility for the Western Approaches from the start of World War II.
After the fall of France in June 1940, the main North Atlantic convoy routes were diverted around the north of Ireland through the north-western approaches. By late 1940, the location of the Combined Operations headquarters at Plymouth was increasingly awkward and the decision was taken to move the Combined Operations headquarters to Liverpool. On 7 February 1941, the headquarters was established at Derby House, Liverpool, with a secondary control bunker built in Magee College, Derry. Derby House was designated HMS Eaglet
shore establishments were often given ship (stone frigate) names to meet the requirement that their Navy personnel be borne upon the books of a specific ship. The headquarters of No. 15 Group RAF (part of Coastal Command) moved to Liverpool at the same time. On 17 February 1941 Admiral Sir Percy Noble was appointed as the new Commander-in-Chief, Western Approaches Command. The Western Approaches Tactical Unit (WATU) was formed in January 1942 to develop and disseminate new tactics to counter German submarine attacks on trans-Atlantic shipping convoys. WATU took up residency on the top floor of Derby House.
Over the next two years, Admiral Noble built up the bases for the North Atlantic escort groups at Greenock on the Clyde, Derry and Liverpool and set up the training facilities that were the foundations for eventual victory in the Battle of the Atlantic.

The Nelson Monument is a monument to Admiral Horatio Nelson, in Exchange Flags, Liverpool, England. It was designed by Matthew Cotes Wyatt and sculpted by Richard Westmacott. It stands to the north of the Town Hall and was unveiled in 1813.

The site selected for current facility, the third town hall, was just to the west of the second town hall on land which had previously been occupied by residential properties. The foundation stone was laid by the Minister of Health, Sir Hilton Young, on 22 October 1934. It was designed by Lanchester and Lodge in the Art Deco style and officially opened by the Chairman of London County Council, Lord Snell, on 3 July 1937. The design involved a symmetrical main frontage with thirteen bays facing onto Mare Street
the central section of five bays featured a doorway flanked by windows on either side on the ground floor
there were five round headed widows leading onto a balcony on the first floor with a clock and the borough coat of arms above. The principal rooms were the council chamber, the mayor's parlour, the members' room and an assembly hall running along the rear of the building.
The building continued to be the local seat of government after the formation of the enlarged London Borough of Hackney in 1965. However, many of the council officers and their departments, who had been located in disparate departments around the area, moved to the new Hackney Service Centre in Hillman Street, designed by Hopkins Architects, in 2010.

A year after it opened, during World War II, it was requisitioned and became home of the government's postal censorship department, while its printing presses were used to print National Registration cards. Its vast internal spaces were used for manufacturing the floors of Halifax Bombers, barrage balloons and woollen material. In the 1940s the building was also used by Unity Pools (formed from Littlewoods, Zetters and Vernons).
The building has stood empty since 2003.
On 2 September 2018 a fire broke out at night in part of the complex. The roof and upper floor of one wing were lost, although the main structure was saved.
Regeneration
In June 2018, developers Capital & Centric announced the new site will consist of a film studio complex and adjacent soundstages to become a new base of Twickenham Studios. Slated to become 'Hollywood of The North', the studios will be named Littlewoods Studios as an homage to the building in which the studios will be housed. It was revealed in August 2019 that work transforming the site into two sound stages and offices was due to start towards the end of the year with the facilities finished towards the end of 2021.
The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority agreed to contribute ?11 million to the project in July 2020. The project intends to have a pop-up studio built on the neighbouring land and ready by the end of 2020, with development of the rest of the project following afterwards.

Passersby slow their pace and turn their heads towards the pulsating hip-hop that blares out Overthrow's doors and onto the sidewalk. Through its ground floor windows, and past an aggressive neon red sign, a few dozen young women chat excitedly as they wrap their hands before squeezing into boxing gloves.
Further back another class is still in session, with the participants jabbing ferociously at shared punching bags as an instructor screams down from a ring set alongside an exposed brick wall.
On any given night, a peek through these same steamed-up windows could result in a story-worthy sighting of Nina Agdal, Usher, Martha Hunt, Jennifer Lopez, the Fat Jewish or Will Smith.
This is exactly what Overthrow founder Joey Goodwin had in mind when he started the gym two years ago. I wanted to create an atmosphere that drew you in, he says. Everyone on the outside is trying to get a better look, wishing they were a part of the action.

I think he saw me run my mouth and get beaten up too many times, remembers Goodwin, leaning back in his office on the gym's second floor. He took me to East River Park and taught me a few moves. I was hooked immediately.
Enrolling in a local boxing gym, the street-wise Goodwin immediately spotted an opportunity for growth. The room was filled CEOs, models, editors and entrepreneurs, he says. I began to see the potential that could come with creating a real boxing brand, done in the style of SoulCycle or Barry's Bootcamp.

It is near the village of Dorney, Buckinghamshire, and is around 3 km (2 miles) west of Windsor and Eton, close to the River Thames.
The lake is privately owned and financed by Eton College, which spent ?17 million developing it. Additional grants, totalling ?500,000, were obtained from Sport England, UK Sport, the DCMS and SEEDA in order to build the lake's finish tower. The project was completed in 2006, after 10 years of construction. Although it is primarily for use by the school, the facilities are hired out for rowing, as well as for canoeing, dragon boating, open water swimming and triathlon.

It is the ceremonial headquarters of Manchester City Council and houses a number of local government departments. The entrance and Sculpture Hall contain busts and statues of influential figures including Dalton, Joule and Barbirolli. Exchange Flags is a Grade II listed building in Liverpool, England. It is laid out in a 'U' shape, with Walker House situated on the west side and Horton House on the east side. Walker House (formerly known as Derby House) was adapted during its construction to include a reinforced bunker that housed the Western Approaches Command Headquarters, the command centre for the campaign waged against the German submarine fleet during WW2. The courtyard faces Liverpool Town Hall and contains the Nelson Monument.
The monument consists of a bronze statue on a stone base. Its overall height is 29 feet (8.8 m), and the circumference of the base is 95 feet 4 inches (29.1 m). they represent Nelson's major victories, the battles of Cape St Vincent, the Nile, Copenhagen, and Trafalgar. Encircling the pedestal above the statues are swags of laurel hanging from behind lions' heads. Attached to rings in the lions' mouths are chains that descend to manacle the prisoners. London has two main financial centres, alongside the traditional City of London, and contains many of the UK's tallest buildings, including the second-tallest (and tallest completed), One Canada Square. Canary Wharf contains around 14,000,000 square feet (1,300,000 m2) of office and retail space, of which around 7,900,000 square feet (734,000 m2) is owned by Canary Wharf Group.
Around 90,000 people work in Canary Wharf and it is home to the world or European headquarters of numerous major banks, professional services firms and media organisations including Barclays, Citigroup, Clifford Chance, HSBC, KPMG, MetLife, and Thomson Reuters.
Canary Wharf was built on the site of the West India Docks on the Isle of Dogs. From 1802, the area was one of the busiest docks in the world. By the 1950s, the port industry began to decline, leading to the docks closing by 1980.
Canary Wharf itself takes its name from No. 32 berth of the West Wood Quay of the Import Dock. This was built in 1936 for Fruit Lines Ltd, a subsidiary of Fred Olsen Lines for the Mediterranean and Canary Island (Insula Canaria (from canis) 'Island of Dogs') fruit trade. At their request, the quay and warehouse were given the name Canary Wharf.
The Canary Wharf of today began when Michael von Clemm, former chairman of Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB), came up with the idea to convert Canary Wharf into back office accomodation. A new business district was planned, construction started in 1988.
A bust and a boom in property prices then occurred. At the peak of property prices in 2007, the HSBC building sold for a record \u00a31.1 billion.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy CEY8WK - The CIS Tower is an office skyscraper on Miller Street in Manchester, England. It was completed in 1962 and rises to 387 feet (118 m) in height.
The Grade II listed building, which houses the Co-operative Banking Group, is Manchester's second-tallest building and the tallest office building outside London. The tower remained as built for over 40 years until maintenance issues on the service tower required an extensive renovation which included covering its facade in photovoltaic panels.
The tower's design was influenced by Skidmore Owings & Merrill's Inland Steel Building in Chicago after a visit by the architects in 1958. Interiors were designed by Misha Black of the Design Research Unit.
Renovation
Within six months of construction some of the mosaic tiles on the service tower became detached owing to cement failure and lack of expansion joints in the concrete. Although the tower was granted listed building status in 1995, falling tiles were an ongoing problem. English Heritage had to be consulted as alterations could change the building's appearance.
In 2004 CIS consulted Solarcentury with a view to replacing the deteriorating mosaic with 575.5kW of blue building-integrated photovoltaic (PV) cells which would provide a permanent green energy solution, generating approximately 180,000 kWh of electricity per year. The work was completed by Arup and at that time was the largest commercial solar fa??ade in Europe.
The PV cells made by Sharp Electronics began feeding electricity to the National Grid in November 2005. The project, which cost ?5.5 million, was partly funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency which granted ?885,000 and the Energy Savings Trust at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) contributed ?175,000.
The solar power project was chosen by the DTI as one of the 10 best green energy projects of 2005. Out of sight on the roof are 24 wind turbines generating 10% of the tower's electricity

Construction on the building began in 1979. The atrium, apartments, offices, and stores opened on a staggered schedule from February to November 1983. At first, there were few tenants willing to move into the commercial and retail spaces
the residential units were sold out within months of opening. After Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and subsequent election, the tower saw large increases in visitation, though security concerns required the area around the tower to be patrolled for several years.

History
When Hamilton Square was designed in the early 19th century, a plot of land was made available for the siting of a town hall between Hamilton Street and Chester Street. Designed by local architect Christopher Ellison, the building was constructed using Scottish granite and sandstone from the now filled-in local quarry at Storeton. It was officially opened in 1887
The building consisted of a council chamber, offices, with a concert hall and function rooms known as the Assembly Rooms. Birkenhead's magistrates' court chambers are located in a separate building of the same design to the rear. The clock tower is 200 feet in height and displays four faces
the clock and five bells within were manufactured and fitted by Gillett & Co. (at a total cost of ?900). After a fire in 1901, the upper part of the clock tower was rebuilt to a design by Henry Hartley. The rebuilding included a stained glass window by Gilbert P. Gamon representing Edward I's visit to Birkenhead Priory in 1277

The central concrete core and four peripheral steel cores are clad with extruded aluminium panels. The 24m-wide column-free floor plates benefit from generous amounts of daylight through the atrium and fully glazed facades, helping to minimise the building's energy usage.
