Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EM1WHK - Vote Andy For Us political campaign placard mounted on a wooden post beside a residential pavement. The sign uses bold white and yellow capital lettering on a bright red background and includes a cartoon-style portrait of a man wearing glasses. The board is fixed with visible metal screws and stands above a low brick boundary wall, clipped hedges and a front garden area, making the election message part of an ordinary neighbourhood street scene rather than a formal rally or party event. In the background, a circular blue Reform UK arrow sign is visible near another brick house, adding a clear sense of political competition and contrasting campaign branding within the same residential setting. The scene also includes a road, pavement, red-brick houses, hedges, a parked or passing red vehicle, rooflines, a cloudy sky and the everyday street furniture of a suburban or small-town area. The image is useful for editorial themes around British election campaigning, doorstep democracy, public political display, residential campaign signs, local voter identity, political branding, neighbourhood opinion, party rivalry and the way election messages become visible in everyday streets. The sharp red placard in the foreground and the blue Reform UK arrow behind it give the picture a strong visual contrast between competing political appeals. The close framing emphasises the physical presence of the sign on the street, while the receding pavement and road show that the placard is part of a wider campaign landscape. It could support articles about campaign material outside homes, visible voter support, political polarisation, local democracy, constituency contests, election communication, street-level politics and the role of simple slogans, colours and cartoon portraits in modern political advertising.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RX18A8 - An editorial photograph of a traditional real ale bar showing a freshly poured pint of cask beer standing on the counter beside a chalkboard listing cask ales currently on offer, with several polished hand pumps visible behind the bar. The scene captures the atmosphere of an authentic British pub interior, with warm low lighting, spirit bottles on back shelves, branded pump clips, bar mats and working cellar-dispense equipment all contributing to a strong sense of place. The handwritten beer board advertises changing guest ales including Salopian Shropshire Gold, Brentwood Legacy, D G Mortons Proper Gander, Little Critters Wartley Tropical and Merlin Mythic IPA, with ABV and prices noted, making the image especially useful for themes linked to beer choice, rotating cask lines, independent breweries and pub merchandising. This is a highly usable image for editorial or commercial features about real ale culture, CAMRA, pub interiors, hospitality venues, licensed trade, beer tourism, draught beer service, traditional hand-pulled ale and the social life of pubs in Britain. The composition combines several recognisable elements of the UK pub trade: brass beer engines, a dark wood counter, point-of-sale pump badges, an ale offer board and a newly served pint with a light foamy head ready for the customer. Search relevance is strengthened by terms such as cask ale bar, beer pumps, pub chalkboard, handpulled bitter, guest ales, ale selection, bar service, cellar conditioned beer, pint of ale, pub counter, traditional inn, hospitality industry, drinks retail, British pub culture and beverage marketing. The image also works as a documentary record of how pubs present changing local and regional beers, encouraging drinkers to try before they buy and reinforcing the heritage and ritual of the hand-pulled pint in England.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JNBYBY - Chipping Campden is a market town in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England. It is notable for its terraced High Street, dating from the 14th century to the 17th century. (Chipping is from Old English cēping, 'market', 'market-place'
the same element is found in other towns such as Chipping Norton, Chipping Sodbury and Chipping (now High) Wycombe.)
A wool trading centre in the Middle Ages, Chipping Campden enjoyed the patronage of wealthy wool merchants, most notably William Greville (d.1401). The High Street is lined with buildings built from locally quarried oolitic limestone known as Cotswold stone, and boasts a wealth of vernacular architecture. Much of the town centre is a conservation area which has helped to preserve the original buildings. The town is an end point of the Cotswold Way, a 102-mile long-distance footpath.
Chipping Campden has hosted its own Olympic Games since 1612.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JPF7HP - Venton's Devon Cyder History
Real Cyder has been made in the traditional way from our East Devon orchards at Clyst St Lawrence for at least the past 100 years that we know of. Looking at old maps of the local area it's probably much longer than that and the documented history of Devon Cyder extends to more like 300 - 400 years.
Whiteways Orchard Heritage
The famous Whiteways Devon Cyder Company were based 2 miles from us and for nearly a century, the orchards surrounding us were nurtured and used to make their Devon Cyder. Famously Whiteways exported thousands of gallons of Cyder to America during the post-prohibition era. In it's heyday the orchards at Whimple were known to be the most extensive in the world. Whiteway's closed in 1985 due to the decline in popularity and the factory land was sold of for housing. The orchards, including our own became redundant for many years but have now, thankfully found a new lease of life due to the renewed interest in Real Cyder.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2CB00DX - Maintaining records of staff, customers and visitors to support NHS Test and Trace
Organisations in certain sectors should collect details and maintain records of staff, customers and visitors on their premises to support NHS Test and Trace.
The UK is currently experiencing a public health emergency as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It is therefore critical that organisations take a range of measures to keep everyone safe.
The easing of social and economic lockdown measures following the COVID-19 outbreak is being supported by NHS Test and Trace. You should assist this service by keeping a temporary record of your customers and visitors for 21 days, in a way that is manageable for your organisation, and assist NHS Test and Trace with requests for that data if needed. This could help contain clusters or outbreaks.
This publication provides further guidance on how you can do this in a proportionate and effective way.
There is a higher risk of transmitting COVID-19 in premises where customers and visitors spend a longer time in one place and potentially come into close contact with other people outside of their household. To manage this risk, establishments in the following sectors, whether indoor or outdoor venues or mobile settings, should collect details and maintain records of staff, customers and visitors:
hospitality, including pubs, bars, restaurants and cafés
tourism and leisure, including hotels, museums, cinemas, zoos and theme parks
close contact services, including hairdressers, barbershops and tailors
facilities provided by local authorities, including town halls and civic centres for events, community centres, libraries and children's centres
places of worship, including use for events and other community activities

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K3XNA1 - The Thatchers company was founded by William Thatcher in 1904. His son Stanley Thatcher, born in 1910, began selling draught cider to pubs in Somerset and the company's presence in the area grew. The company is still family owned and employs around 200 people. In 1992 Martin took over from his father, John Thatcher, as managing director.
It has 500 acres of its own orchard, as well as using apples from other growers in the area. Alongside its bush orchards, Thatchers has pioneered a method of growing its apple trees in a hedgerow style. Trained on wires, this enables easier harvesting and also helps to ensure the fruit has the optimum combination of sunlight and rain. It has also led to the development of a new bespoke harvester. At the height of season, Thatchers can press 500 tonnes of apples per day. Thatchers also maintains an exhibition orchard in which over 458 different varieties of apple tree are grown. Many of the traditional ciders produced at Myrtle Farm are matured in 100-year-old oak vats, which gives the cider a distinctive taste.
In addition to its cider production, Myrtle Farm is the UK's biggest processor of blackcurrants, dealing with 90 per cent of the UK's total crop, which it processes on behalf of Ribena.
Thatchers Cider is available in many sports clubs and events across the South West. They are involved with teams including Winscombe R.F.C., Bath Rugby, Somerset County Cricket Club, Bristol Rugby, Bristol City, Yeovil Town, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, Bristol Rovers, Plymouth Argyle F.C, Exeter City and Torquay United.
Thatchers are also involved in many local events and festivals including: Glastonbury Festival, Royal Bath and West Show, Bristol International Balloon Fiesta and Cambridge Folk Festival.
Thatcher's lost their ongoing cider sponsorship of the Glastonbury festival in 2019 to Mallets cider

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HE7MF1 - Buckfast Tonic Wine, commonly known as Buckfast or Buckie, is a fortified wine with caffeine, licensed from Buckfast Abbey in Devon and distributed by J. Chandler & Company in the United Kingdom and Grants of Ireland in Ireland.
The drink has become a subject of controversy in Scotland due to its links with ned culture
a senior politician labelled it as a badge of pride amongst those who are involved in antisocial behaviour.
Buckfast is very popular in Scotland, the sales of the product were monitored in 2014 by the Scottish government to see if the Buckfast Triangle still stood. The test showed that the towns and cities where Buckfast was sold highest per capita were, in order, Glasgow and the surrounding areas, East Kilbride, Hamilton, Cambuslang, and Coatbridge, all of which are in the northern areas of Lanarkshire, excepting Glasgow.
Several Scottish politicians and social activists have singled out Buckfast Tonic Wine as being particularly responsible for crime, disorder, and general social deprivation in these communities. Although Buckfast accounts for only 0.5% of alcohol sales in Scotland, the figure is markedly higher in Lanarkshire. Helen Liddell, former Secretary of State for Scotland, called for the wine to be banned. In 2005, Scottish Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson suggested that retailers should stop selling the wine. On a subsequent visit to Auchinleck within her constituency, she was greeted by teenagers chanting, Don't ban Buckie. Jamieson then received correspondence from lawyers acting for Buckfast distributors, J. Chandler & Company, in Andover. A further consequence was that Buckfast sales increased substantially in the months following Jamieson's comments

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DJ7B0B - Beer in Belgium varies from pale lager to lambic beer and Flemish red. There are approximately 180 breweries in the country, ranging from international giants to microbreweries
Beer in Belgium dates back to the age of the first crusades, long before Belgium became an independent country. Under Catholic church permission, local French and Flemish abbeys brewed and distributed beer as a fund raising method. The relatively low-alcohol beer of that time was preferred as a sanitary option to available drinking water. What are now traditional, artisanal brewing methods evolved, under abbey supervision, during the next seven centuries.
The Trappist monasteries that now brew beer in Belgium were occupied in the late 18th century primarily by monks fleeing the French Revolution. However, the first Trappist brewery in Belgium (Westmalle) did not start operation until 10 December 1836, almost 50 years after the Revolution. That beer was exclusively for the monks and is described as dark and sweet. The first recorded sale of beer (a brown beer) was on 1 June 1861

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy H366J6 - This documentary stock photograph shows Inside the Shipley Pride Pub, West Yorkshire, England, UK. The subject is rooted in Shipley, Yorkshire and is useful for editorial stories about Yorkshire pub culture, real ale, hand-pulled beer, traditional games and the social life of local pubs. The visible detail and caption make it more valuable than a generic bar or drink image, because it shows a real venue, real pub behaviour or a specific building connected with local social life. British pubs remain important as places to meet, eat, drink, watch sport, play traditional games and maintain informal community networks, while at the same time facing pressure from energy costs, staffing, changing drinking habits, business rates, rent, supermarket alcohol and the shift towards food-led trade. This image can support articles about real ale, hand pumps, cellar-to-bar service, drinkers, pub games such as dominoes, historic pub interiors, public house survival, tourism, hospitality employment, licensing, town-centre economies and the role of pubs in working-class and city life. It can also work for features on CAMRA, beer heritage, cask ale quality, independent pubs, after-work drinkers, railway-station pubs, local economies and nostalgia for sociable, unpretentious public houses. Search-friendly composite terms include traditional British pub culture, real ale handpull pint, Yorkshire pub games, London historic pub, pub hospitality industry, community local, cask beer service, licensed premises and UK evening economy. The documentary approach gives editors a credible image for news, magazine, web, tourism, food and drink, business, leisure, heritage and social commentary use. Where people or hands are visible, the photograph can also suggest the tactile, social side of pubs, including ordering, serving, chatting, playing and lingering rather than simply consuming a product.

03/12 \u2013 Father
Proud, hardworking, but not particularly well off, he got on relatively well with his dad. Luckier than many of his friends then.
In those times some of his friends were more latchkey, parents spirited away for six months at her majesties pleasure, or just endlessly working away, building trade, drivers or down in London in music or media. Temptations were all around for the adults left at home. Wayward baby sitters, amorous neighbours, randy teenagers. The Zephyr Zodiac he could remember, its plate BNT6833. Leather seats, the smell of un-burnt two star and brown foam filling out from the dodgy rocker box.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy CF23TD - Quarry Bank Mill in Cheshire, England, is one of the best preserved textile mills of the Industrial Revolution and is now a museum of the cotton industry. It is a Grade II listed building and is now in the care of the National Trust.
The mill was founded by Samuel Greg (who is represented here), in 1784 in the village of Styal on the River Bollin. Its original iron water wheel was designed by Thomas Hewes and built between 1816 and 1820.
The Hewes wheel finally broke in 1904. After that the River Bollin continued to power the mill, through two water turbines. Today the Mill is home to the most powerful working waterwheel in Europe, an iron water wheel which was originally at Glasshouses Mill at Patley Bridge. This wheel was designed by Sir William Fairbairn, the Scottish engineer who had been an apprentice of Thomas Hewes.
The estate surrounding the mill, also developed by Greg, is the most complete and least altered factory colony of the Industrial Revolution. The estate and mill were donated to the National Trust in 1939 by Alexander Carlton Greg and are open to the public. The mill continued in commercial production until 1959.
The Greg family were Unitarians and built Norcliffe Chapel in Styal village. Their non-conformist religious beliefs provided the Gregs with important business contacts as many of the major Manchester Industrialists were Unitarian. Methodist workers at the mill later sought a place of worship, and the Gregs converted a grain store in Styal village into a Chapel for their use.
In Britain, a cotton mill is a factory that houses spinning and weaving machinery. Typically built between 1775 and 1930, mills spun cotton which was an important product during the Industrial Revolution.
Cotton mills, and the mechanisation of the spinning process, were instrumental in the growth of the machine tool industry, enabling the construction of larger cotton mills. The requirement for water helped stimulate the construction of the canal system too.
