Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3ENF26E - Southway Housing's free clothing and household store for residents at Southern Gate, 729 Princess Road, Manchester, M20 2LT. The subject is useful for illustrating practical tenant support by a community-based housing association in South Manchester, including help for people on low incomes, social housing residents, council housing tenants, families setting up or sustaining a tenancy, people affected by the cost of living, and residents needing clothing, household goods or basic essentials. Southway Housing describes itself as a community-focused housing association with more than 6,500 homes across Greater Manchester, while its contact information gives Southern Gate on Princess Road as its office address. Manchester's local advice directory also describes Southway as a community-based provider and social enterprise working in and around South Manchester, with support and advice services to help tenants maintain tenancies, manage household bills and debts and access other agencies. This makes the image relevant to editorial features on social housing, charitable help, tenancy sustainment, welfare support, poverty prevention, household budgeting, resident engagement, neighbourhood services and practical community assistance. The location on Princess Road in Didsbury places the service within a busy South Manchester corridor, making it suitable for stories about local authority housing transfer legacy, housing association customer services, tenant hardship, reuse of donated goods, circular economy, community resilience and the role of landlords beyond rent collection and repairs. Keywords and captions can connect the image with wider themes such as food and fuel poverty, furniture poverty, clothing banks, cost-of-living pressure, anti-poverty support, resident wellbeing, sustainable reuse, public service partnerships and the everyday social value delivered by not-for-profit housing providers.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EENG7T - A Holyrood Nurseries Warrington outdoor banner advertising childcare spaces available, photographed beside grass and a red brick nursery building in the Thelwall and Grappenhall area of Warrington, Cheshire. The green sign carries the Holyrood Nurseries and Thrive Childcare and Education branding, the website thrivechildcare.com and the local telephone number 01925 496955, with a smiling child pictured on the right-hand side. This image is commercially useful for editorial coverage of nursery provision, early years education, childcare vacancies, working parents, family finances and childcare affordability in England. Holyrood Warrington is listed by Thrive Childcare at 237 Thelwall New Road, Grappenhall, Warrington, WA4 2XT, making the photograph relevant to local childcare services in south Warrington and policy stories. The words Childcare Spaces Available connect directly with debates about nursery capacity, funded childcare hours, staff availability, parental work choices and the difficulty of finding places close to home. Government support can include Tax-Free Childcare, where eligible families can receive a top-up worth up to £2,000 a year per child, and Universal Credit childcare support, which can meet up to 85% of eligible costs. These schemes are often presented as help for working families, but the real impact depends on eligibility, provider charges, wraparound costs, opening hours and whether a nursery place is actually available. The photograph can illustrate Labour Government childcare policy, childcare portals, free or funded childcare codes, Tax-Free Childcare accounts, Universal Credit support, early years entitlements, nursery fees, cost of living pressure, parents returning to work and children's services. The low warm sunlight, grass foreground and suburban brick building give the image a clear local documentary feel, while the prominent banner makes it suitable for news, policy, education, business and family finance use.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E54TY3 - Editorial photograph of a supermarket No & Low alcohol display showing a dedicated shelf of alcohol-free and low-alcohol drinks marketed as healthier lifestyle alternatives, suitable for shoppers seeking moderation, sober-curious options, reduced alcohol consumption and drinks with broad social appeal. The prominent overhead sign reads No & Low Alcohol, while the shelves below show a mixed retail display of sparkling alcohol-free wine style drinks, low and no alcohol beers, canned soft drinks, kombucha-style beverages, mixers and premium adult alternatives. Visible products include Wild West beef jerky snacks, Funkin cans, Proper Job IPA 0.5%, Gym Beer, AF branded alcohol-free drinks and other packaged grocery lines, all presented within a modern UK supermarket environment with shelf-edge prices and category merchandising. The image is useful for editorial themes around supermarket retail, no alcohol trends, low alcohol trends, alcohol-free lifestyle choices, inclusive food and drink retailing, Muslim-friendly shopping choices, halal-conscious consumers seeking non-alcohol options, mindful drinking, Dry January, wellness culture, healthier living, moderation, teetotal social habits, family-friendly drinks sections, grocery merchandising, FMCG branding, packaged beverages, retail display design, consumer behaviour and changing drinking habits in Britain. It also illustrates how mainstream supermarkets increasingly create visible no and low sections for shoppers avoiding alcohol for faith, health, pregnancy, driving, sport, work, recovery, cultural preference or personal wellbeing. Strong commercial and editorial themes include non-alcoholic alternatives, alcohol-free beer, low-ABV drinks, retail shelf photography, British grocery shopping, supermarket signage, beverage marketing, wellness trend, public health messaging and modern consumer choice. The image suggests suitability for alcohol-avoiding shoppers, but does not confirm halal certification.

The image captures the fast-growing no and low category in British retail, where alcohol-free beer, non-alcoholic lager, low ABV craft beer and healthier drinking alternatives have become mainstream choices in supermarkets, convenience stores and off-licence environments. This photograph is useful for stories about mindful drinking, sober curious consumers, moderation, cutting down alcohol, Dry January, health-conscious purchasing, alcohol substitution, changing consumer behaviour, beer branding, FMCG marketing, retail merchandising and supermarket category management. It also illustrates wider themes in the UK drinks market, including demand for zero alcohol alternatives, premium alcohol-free brands, visible packaging design, comparative shelf positioning, price competition, branded point-of-sale presentation and the normalisation of alcohol-free choices alongside mainstream grocery lines. Suitable for editorial use on supermarket retail, British consumer culture, no alcohol trends, low alcohol trends, wellness lifestyle changes, public health messaging, reduced drinking habits, beer market innovation, retail shelf photography, drinks industry analysis, grocery inflation, household budgeting, impulse purchase behaviour, alcohol moderation campaigns and the commercial rise of non alcoholic beverages. The glass-fronted shelter, green bicycle graphics, locked doors and visible parked bikes make the image a useful editorial view of active travel infrastructure, cycle security and public transport interchange. Warrington Borough Council says the facility is next to the bus station on Horsemarket Street, holds 34 bikes, is free to use and can be accessed 24 hours a day through a smartphone app. The council also says it is close to Warrington Central railway station, making it useful for commuters and shoppers who want to combine cycling with bus or rail journeys. The image is commercially useful for stories about sustainable transport, cycling infrastructure, town centre travel, secure bike parking, modal shift, low-carbon commuting, public realm improvements, local transport funding and efforts to reduce car dependency. It can also illustrate practical barriers to cycling, including fear of theft, lack of secure storage, weather exposure and the need for convenient facilities near shops, buses and trains. The visible HM Government and Warrington Borough Council branding adds relevance for articles about local authority transport projects, active travel investment, levelling-up style funding and the delivery of small but visible changes to town centre infrastructure. The shelter's transparent walls, urban reflections, bicycle racks and nearby bus interchange context show how cycling is being integrated into everyday transport networks rather than treated as a leisure-only activity. As a documentary stock image, it records a modern Warrington facility designed to make short trips, mixed-mode commuting and everyday cycling more practical.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E93466 - Close view of an Avanti West Coast onboard passenger information poster promoting free period care on trains as part of the operator's Package for a Friend scheme. The red notice explains that if a passenger's period arrives unexpectedly, help is available onboard, with customers able to ask staff for a pad in the shop or request a Package for a Friend for a more private and discreet handover. The image is useful for editorial coverage of women's health, menstrual care, period dignity, inclusive travel, passenger welfare, public transport support initiatives and the wider role of transport operators in responding to real everyday needs. Avanti West Coast announced the scheme in 2025, saying customers could access free pads via onboard shop staff or through Click and Collect for discreet pickup. The poster also carries Package for a Friend branding, linking it to a broader rail industry initiative around menstrual equality and practical passenger support. This makes the photograph relevant for news, magazines, health features, transport policy coverage, equality and inclusion reporting, customer service case studies and rail industry commentary. Visually, the strong red design and bold white lettering create a clear, informative documentary image of modern onboard signage, while the wording gives specific context around unexpected periods, privacy and access to free sanitary products during a journey. Suitable themes include women travellers, train operator services, public information campaigns, travel reassurance, period poverty awareness, transport accessibility and practical measures to make rail travel more inclusive and less stressful for passengers. The image also works as a record of changing expectations in customer care on Britain's railways, where health, dignity and discreet support are becoming more visible parts of the onboard experience.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EBGJFR - Copenhagen Harbour Bus 991 public transport boat is pictured on the water in the Danish capital, with the destination display showing Teglholmen and passengers standing on the open deck under dramatic evening light. The bright orange vessel forms part of Copenhagen's integrated public transport network, where harbour buses operate like ordinary buses but travel along the inner harbour, linking waterfront districts and giving commuters, residents and visitors a practical way to cross or travel through the city by water. Visit Copenhagen describes the harbour buses as part of the public transport system and notes that stock-photo/gotonysmith-Route.html?sortBy=relevant&pseudoid=237DAF28-A4ED-4448-8173-C0E81ABEEC6F Target=_Blank>route 991 runs in the direction of Teglholmen, while route 992 runs towards Orientkaj. The harbour bus service is a distinctive subject for editorial use around Copenhagen tourism, sustainable transport, Nordic urban design, harbour regeneration, waterfront commuting, public transport integration, city ferries and low emission travel. The image shows the experience at passenger level rather than as a distant postcard view, with people, railings, the driver's cabin, the orange ferry structure, water and changing sky all combining to give a documentary travel feel. It is useful for stories about how Copenhagen makes its harbour part of everyday movement, not just scenery, and how former industrial waterfronts such as Teglholmen and Sluseholmen have become connected residential and mixed-use districts. The photograph also suits themes of car-free sightseeing, public transport tickets, boat commuting, urban mobility, Scandinavian lifestyle, city breaks, transport infrastructure and the appeal of seeing Copenhagen from the water without taking a specialist tourist cruise. The soft low sun, blue sky and dark cloud add visual drama, while the passengers on deck give scale and human interest. It is a strong stock image for travel guides, transport features, tourism articles, climate-conscious city planning, harbour bus route explainers and editorial coverage

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EFHRPN - White cloth protest banner reading Rashford 1 Boris 0 , photographed in connection with Manchester United supporter culture at Old Trafford, Manchester, during the Covid lockdown period. The simple hand-painted design, with Rashford sprayed in red and Boris in black, refers to Marcus Rashford's high-profile campaign on child food poverty, free school meal vouchers, holiday hunger and support for families relying on foodbanks. The scoreline format turns a political dispute into football language, presenting the Manchester United and England forward as the clear winner over Boris Johnson's government after pressure led to a policy reversal on free school meals support. The image works strongly as an editorial illustration of footballers using public platforms for social justice, the politics of austerity and poverty, pandemic-era hardship, school meal provision, food insecurity, youth welfare and the wider role of Premier League players beyond sport. It also captures the visual language of fan protest: cheap fabric, spray paint, improvised lettering, terrace humour and a blunt message designed to be seen quickly around a stadium or matchday setting. The banner links Old Trafford, Manchester United, community activism and national politics at a moment when Covid-19 exposed inequality across the UK. The visible words Rashford , Boris and the score 1 0 make the image commercially useful for stories about Marcus Rashford, Boris Johnson, lockdown Britain, free school meals, foodbank use, child poverty, political accountability, football activism, public campaigning, Conservative government policy, Premier League influence, Manchester identity and working-class social conscience. The plain indoor or wall-mounted setting, muted light and soft folds in the fabric give the photograph a raw documentary feel rather than a polished advertising look, making it suitable for news, education, charity, politics, sport, poverty and social history uses.

Affordability checks and slot machine stake limits welcomed but experts call proposals a ˜missed opportunity'
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) published a 268-page white paper laying out a shake-up of existing regulations, which date from before smartphones put access to 24-hour casino games and sports betting in every pocket.
The content of the proposals, which have already been delayed on at least four occasions, met with broad support from MPs and campaigners but drew criticism for shying away from curbs on advertising.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2T35C2N - This editorial photograph captures The great Food Scandal, West End Final headline, London evening Standard, Holborn, WC2B 6AA. The row metadata places the subject at Holborn, Bloomsbury, London, England, WC2B 6AA. The spreadsheet date indicates 08 September 2023, so the picture can also work as a time-specific archive record. Plainly, the image is useful because it shows London, London Evening Standard, evening, standard, newspaper, paper, Food Scandal, WC2B, with search-relevant terms including London, London Evening Standard, evening, standard, newspaper, paper, Food Scandal, WC2B, news, stand, England, UK, campaign, the. The value lies in the combination of place, object, wording and context, giving editors something specific and grounded rather than generic filler imagery. London details are useful because the city layers national politics, migration, commerce, tourism, neighbourhood change and local high streets. East End, Westminster and Holborn subjects can all carry wider meaning beyond their immediate street address. The image can support political and civic reporting where the point is not just party branding or protest imagery, but the way public debate appears in streets, media, posters, campaign signs and everyday visual culture. It would suit editorial features, local news reporting, public policy articles, web explainers, travel pieces and business commentary where a real place or recognisable everyday subject is needed rather than a staged studio concept. Historically and socially, this kind of image can help connect past and present: older streets, civic institutions, transport systems, shops, signs, political messages or public services are not frozen museum pieces, but part of how people understand modern life, local identity and economic change. For SEO and stock-photo discovery, the description deliberately supports searches around London.

The location is 17 Cockhedge Way, Warrington, Cheshire, England, UK, WA1 2QQ. It would suit editorial use on shopping, retail change, independent traders, high-street survival, tourism, local economies, consumer habits and the visual identity of British town and city centres. For image buyers, the value is in the combination of recognisable subject, readable wording, location evidence and a plain documentary style that can be dropped into news, magazine, web, council, housing, transport, heritage or commercial commentary without looking over-produced. It has value for both local and national stories, especially where writers need to connect a named place or object with wider economic, social, environmental or cultural change. The location is Castle Grounds, Guildford, Surrey, England, UK, GU1 3SY. The picture is not just a record shot: it contains visible signage, colour, materials, location clues and everyday street detail that make the image more specific than a generic stock photograph. It can be used in editorial features, business reports, local-history writing, travel guides, public-policy explainers, educational material and SEO-led stock-photo searches needing a specific real-world image. For image buyers, the value is in the combination of recognisable subject, readable wording, location evidence and a plain documentary style that can be dropped into news, magazine, web, council, housing, transport, heritage or commercial commentary without looking over-produced. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine buskers have been robbed of their spots, so their music has had to go underground.
But it's not just their music that has been taken, it is also their livelihoods. So this Eurovision, Ketchum UK has created a campaign for buskers from Liverpool to give up their usual spots along the Merseyrail network to Ukrainian musicians, giving them the chance to perform for audiences and keep the conversation alive about this unjust war.
Travellers going through the four biggest stations
Liverpool Central, Lime Street, Moorfields and James Street will be able to enjoy authentic Ukrainian busking music.
Each busking spot has a speaker streaming the artists music and a QR code for passers-by to scan to find out more about the musicians' story, videos about them and to donate to the cause.
All proceeds raised will go directly to Supplies for Ukraine C.I.C., who are working to provide essential, lifesaving equipment to civilians and volunteers on the front lines in Ukraine.
There is an accompanying outdoor poster campaign across the Merseyrail network and all tracks are streamed as a playlist on Spotify.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PGAYMJ - Gridserve Sustainable Energy Limited is a British company founded in 2017 to develop, own and operate critical infrastructure for sustainable energy production. Gridserve opened the UK's first all-electric car charging forecourt in 2020, and plans to open over 100 more over the following five years to charge electric vehicles with 100% renewable energy, supporting the UK's transition to carbon neutrality.
Acts as a vendor and comparison site for the leasing of electric vehicles with Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions, with 100 trees planted for every car leased. Leased EV customers have the full cost of charging at Gridserve electric forecourts covered.
Installs and operates a network of electric charging hubs and home chargers. A £1bn UK-wide investment is planned to build over 100 public charging stations.
operates photovoltaic power stations, also known as solar farms, supplying renewable electricity to the National Grid. The solar modules are bifacial, allowing them to harvest energy from both sides of the panel. Land at Clay Hill, Bedfordshire serves as one of the UK's first subsidy-free solar farms, coming online in 2017 and comprising 10MW of solar PV and 6MW of energy storage. A solar farm was also constructed by GRIDSERVE for Warrington Borough Council at a site near Easingwold, York
In advance of the UK mandatory phase-out of fossil fuel vehicles by 2030[8] and anticipated mass adoption of electric vehicles, Gridserve is developing a countrywide network of customer-focused forecourts that provide ultra-fast electric vehicle charging services and associated retail. Revenue and profitability are designed to derive from electricity grid balancing services and the provision of solar energy generation. However, the company pointedly does not call them service stations
the planned forecourts are intended to serve local communities, like petrol stations do, rather than serving passing trade on motorways. Facilities include convenience stores, office 'pods'etc

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PG92TN - Iceland, officially Iceland Foods Ltd, is a British supermarket chain headquartered in Deeside, Wales. It mainly sells frozen foods, including prepared meals and vegetables, alongside non-frozen grocery items such as produce, meat, dairy and dry goods. The company also operates a chain of shops called The Food Warehouse.
Iceland Foods began business in 1970, when Malcolm Walker opened the first store in Leg Street, Oswestry, Shropshire, England, with his business partner Peter Hinchcliffe. Together, they invested £60 for one month's rent at the store. They were still employees of Woolworths at the time, and their employment was terminated once their employer discovered their other roles. Iceland Foods initially specialised in loose frozen food. In 1977, they opened a store in Manchester selling own-labelled packaged food, and by 1978 the company had 28 stores.
In 1983, the business grew by purchasing the 18 stores of Bristol-based St. Catherine's Freezer Centres, and in 1984 the business went public for the first time. The cash investment was used to purchase South East-based Orchard Frozen Foods in 1986, and the purchase of larger rival Bejam in 1988. In 1993, the firm took over the food halls of the Littlewoods department store and also acquired the French Au Gel chain. This last move proved unsuccessful and the stores were dropped within a year
In 2019, Iceland Foods opened 45 new stores in the UK (including 31 larger stores under The Food Warehouse fascia) but had also closed eight, increasing the number of UK stores to 942. The company has a strategic alliance with The Range, where Iceland's food offer has been introduced to nine of the home and garden retailer's stores. In 2019 it also expanded its warehousing locations, adding five multi-temperature regional distribution centres at Livingston, Warrington, Deeside, Enfield and Swindon

The new car park, which was due to open
in December 2017, is a great example of
how architects and contractors can work in
partnership with Maple to transform typically
dull and utilitarian buildings into an integral and
aesthetically appealing part of the urban realm.
With its hexagon-featured golden façade, the
car park complements the other elements of
the £107m Time Square development.
The new car park is an integral and important
part of the Time Square project as it will
underpin and support the whole scheme, said
the leader of Warrington Borough Council, Terry
O'Neill.
Architect's ratings
Leach Rhodes Walker described us as ˜excellent'
after the successful collaboration. Maple's
knowledge and craftsmanship was excellent
throughout, said LRW's lead project designer,
Ka Yin Man. From when we spoke to sales
about the commercials, to (dealing with) the
design and projects teams, the whole experience
was collaborative. In a post-project interview,
the architects' firm gave us top marks for design
services, project support, meeting deadlines
and the quality of the finished product. Added
Ka Yin: Maple were always helpful, and any
questions were dealt with promptly. Everyone
was very knowledgeable and accommodating.
The end result was even better than expected
The project was one of the first to use the new
dedicated prototype area at Maple's factory in
Stockport. The architects and contractors I & H
Brown Construction were able to view real-life
examples of the bespoke perforated panels and
golden hexagon cut-outs - at actual size. The
prototypes were powder-coated in the specified
colour, and fitted to the display framework using
actual fittings - meaning that any changes to the
design or specification could be made without
it having a major impact on timings or budget

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2N482TX - How NHS bowel cancer screening scheme works, in the UK
You will be sent an invitation letter with information about bowel cancer screening. The information is to help you decide whether to take part. Then we send you a faecal immunochemical test, or ˜FIT kit' for short. It detects blood in your poo (blood you would not notice by eye). We look for blood because polyps and bowel cancers sometimes bleed. Finding blood does not diagnose bowel cancer but it means you need further tests (usually a bowel examination).
Most people's screening result shows they do not need any further tests.
Some people will need further tests. If this is the case for you, we will offer you an appointment to talk about having a colonoscopy. Colonoscopy looks at the inside of your bowel. We use colonoscopy to find the source of the blood.
You use the FIT kit in the privacy of your home. It's a simple way to collect a tiny sample of poo. The kit (pictured below) is a small plastic bottle with a stick attached inside the lid. You use the stick to collect the sample, which you seal into the bottle. There are instructions with each kit.
Once used, you post the kit in its prepaid packaging to a laboratory for processing. Using the kit takes just a few minutes and it's an easy and effective way to screen for early bowel cancer.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JPB8W9 - Often called street pianos or public pianos these instruments are placed in public areas and encourage passersby to come and play. They have been observed all around the world
These pianos provide passerbys a chance to relax and take a break from a hectic pace of life. Seeking out these pianos can be difficult, because the pianos are relatively rare and their locations mostly unknown. This website, pianos.pub, attempts to catalog all locations of all known public pianos to facilitate access to anyone and everyone.

Public instruments have been available for hundreds of years. The idea of a street piano was popularized in the early part of this millenium. The idea started to take off in 2013 when revolutionized by organizations to promote public pianos in parks and plazas, most notably the Play Me, I'm Your's campaign initiated by British artist Luke Jerram in 2008. Since then, the number of piano sightings has increased steadily every year, often peaking during the summer time.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M84J99 - The Garden of Remembrance (Irish: An GairdÃn Cuimhneacháin) is a memorial garden in Dublin dedicated to the memory of all those who gave their lives in the cause of Irish Freedom. It is located in the northern fifth of the former Rotunda Gardens in Parnell Square, a Georgian square at the northern end of O'Connell Street. The garden was opened by Eamon de Valera during the semicentennial of the Easter Rising in 1966
The Garden commemorates freedom fighters from various uprisings, including:
the 1798 rebellion of the Society of United Irishmen
the 1803 rebellion of Robert Emmet
the 1848 rebellion of Young Ireland
the 1867 rising of the Fenian Brotherhood
the 1916 Easter Rising of the Irish Volunteers and the Irish Citizen Army
the 1919“21 Irish War of Independence of the Irish Republican Army
The site of the Garden is where the Irish Volunteers were founded in 1913, and where several leaders of the 1916 Rising were held overnight before being taken to Kilmainham Gaol. President Éamon de Valera opened the Garden in 1966 on the fiftieth anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising, in which he had been a commander
The Garden was designed by Dáithà Hanly. It is in the form of a sunken cruciform water-feature. Its focal point is a statue of the Children of Lir by OisÃn Kelly, symbolising rebirth and resurrection, added in 1971, cast in the Ferdinando Marinelli Artistic Foundry of Florence, Italy.
In 1976, a contest was held to find a poem which could express the appreciation and inspiration of this struggle for freedom. The winner was Dublin born author Liam Mac UistÃn, whose poem We Saw a Vision, an aisling style poem, is written in Irish, French, and English on the stone wall of the monument. The aisling (vision) form was used in eighteenth-century poems longing for an end to Ireland's miserable condition.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K3XN9Y - How investors got burned by Chilango's burrito bonds
As investors in restaurant chain Chilango's burrito bonds face losing all their money
With average interest rates on savings accounts falling to under 1% for the first time, promises of 8% returns are bound to attract attention. But don't be fooled into placing your cash in high-risk mini-bonds. A mini-bond is a high-risk form of corporate debt.
This is something investors in restaurant group Chilango are just discovering. More than 1,000 people bought £5.8m of its mini-bonds. The investments were dubbed burrito bonds because if you invested more than £10,000 you could claim one free burrito a week. In November 2018 MoneyWeek warned readers to think long and hard before you sink your money into the burrito bond .
Now the vast majority of those bond holders stand to lose their money after Chilango announced it is entering administration. They will be reliant on returns from the sale of its assets, which the company warned last year could lead to them losing 99% of their investment , says Sarah Butler in The Guardian.
This is only the latest example of the significant risk mini-bonds present. In 2015 Secured Energy Bonds collapsed, losing investors more than £7m. In January 2019 London Capital & Finance (LCF) went bust, leaving 12,000 investors facing a £236m loss. Mini-bonds are examples of high-risk investment products that should come with a health warning, Myron Jobson, a personal finance campaigner at Interactive Investor, told The Times. If something seems too good to be true, it usually is.
Mini-bonds are an unregulated product
The problem with mini-bonds is that while the marketing is regulated, the product isn't. This means that, unlike cash savings, money invested in mini-bonds is not protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, which will compensate you with up to £85,000 if your bank or building society goes bust.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AFK6NJ - Peter Cooper (February 12, 1791 “ April 4, 1883) was an American industrialist, inventor, philanthropist, and politician. He designed and built the first American steam locomotive, the Tom Thumb, founded the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, served as its first president, and stood for election as the Greenback Party's candidate in the 1876 presidential election.
Cooper began tinkering at a young age while working in various positions in New York City. He purchased a glue factory in 1821 and used that factory's profits to found the Canton Iron Works, where he earned even larger profits by assembling the Tom Thumb. Cooper's success as a businessman and inventor continued over the ensuing decades, and he became the first mill operator to successfully use anthracite coal to puddle iron. He also developed numerous patents for products such as gelatin and participated in the laying of the first transatlantic telegraph cable.
During the Gilded Age, Cooper became an ardent critic of the gold standard and the debt-based monetary system of bank currency, advocating instead for government-issued banknotes. Cooper was nominated for president at the 1876 Greenback National Convention, and the Greenback ticket of Cooper and Samuel Fenton Cary won just under one percent of the popular vote in the 1876 general election. His son Edward and his son-in-law Abram Hewitt, both served as Mayor of New York City.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy P307DH - Altrincham Market House: Things To Do In Manchester - A Community Revitalised¦ Read more at https://manchesterbites.com/things-to-do-in-manchester-altrincham-market-house/
The revival of the Altrincham Market is nothing short of remarkable. From 1290 (yes, 1290!) the market had been at the centre of community life in Altrincham. Throughout the centuries, the market would have been where townsfolk gathered to buy goods, make a living, and spend time in the company of their neighbours.
And yet, the second half of the 20th century brought a period of stagnation. With the fortunes of the town on the downturn and the population size decreasing year over year, the historic market was being run by the council with little love or care. In fact, around a decade ago, Altrincham was voted as having the worse high street in Britain.
So, what has changed?
Well, Nick Johnson came onto the scene. Nick was a property developer and saw something in Altrincham that others failed to spot. In 2013, he won the contract to run the market and quickly set about changing the face of it and in turn Altrincham.
Nick gave the Victorian building a makeover. Cleaning it from top to bottom and restoring some features that had been neglected. He then got to work contacting some of the area's best, local food vendors.
Nick did the same in Manchester city centre with the Mackie Mayor food hall, the big sister of Altrincham Market House. We previously wrote about Mackie Mayor here.
Food And Drink At Altrincham Market House
Since it reopened in 2014, locals and visitors have filled the food hall week after week, and it should come as no surprise “ the food on offer is second to none!
Market House is home to 10 indie food stalls, including Honest Crust, Wolfhouse Kitchen, Tender Cow, Jack in the Box, Reserve Wines, Great North Pie Co., Sam Joseph, and Market House Coffee.
Jack in the Box is an award-winning producer of real ale and cider that operate across the Mackie Mayor and Altrincham

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F7DC86 - BEA operated to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East from airports around the United Kingdom. The airline was also the largest UK domestic operator, serving major British cities, including London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast, as well as remote areas of the British Isles such as the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. From 1946 until 1974, BEA operated a network of internal German routes between West Berlin and West Germany as well.
Formed as the British European Airways division of British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) on 1 January 1946, BEA became a crown corporation in its own right on 1 August 1946.
Inflight smoking is prohibited by almost all airlines
smoking on domestic U.S. airliners, for instance, was banned for almost all routes beginning in 1988, with all planes being smoke-free by the end of the 1990s. According to FAA regulations, smoking lit cigarettes or anything else that produces smoke or flame is prohibited onboard most commercial aircraft. However, the FAA has not issued a regulation for or against electronic cigarettes, leaving that decision up to the individual airlines

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K5J0BR - Library of Birmingham is a public library in Birmingham, England. It is situated on the west side of the city centre at Centenary Square, beside the Birmingham Rep (to which it connects, and with which it shares some facilities) and Baskerville House. Upon opening on 3 September 2013, it replaced Birmingham Central Library. The library, which is estimated to have cost £188.8 million, is viewed by the Birmingham City Council as a flagship project for the city's redevelopment. It has been described as the largest public library in the United Kingdom, the largest public cultural space in Europe, and the largest regional library in Europe. 2,414,860 visitors came to the library in 2014 making it the 10th most popular visitor attraction in the UK
After an international design competition, run by the Royal Institute of British Architects, a shortlist of seven architects was announced on 27 March 2008. They were chosen from a list of over 100 architects. The architects chosen were: Foreign Office Architects, Foster and Partners, Hopkins Architects, Mecanoo, OMA, Schmidt hammer lassen and Wilkinson Eyre.
In early August 2008, Mecanoo and multi-discipline engineers, Buro Happold, were announced as the winner of the design competition. More detailed plans for the library were revealed by the council in conjunction with the architects at a launch event held on 2 April 2009.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K5J0BX - Library of Birmingham is a public library in Birmingham, England.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DBHT37 - The mosaic is built on a low brick plinth. The structure has a breeze block support and makes use of recycled Victorian blue bricks as well as slate for the seats on either side.
The whole structure is faced in ceramic mosaics, pieces from local ceramic companies' products, glass beads, and tiles.
A number of themes have been incorporated into the design, including animals and plants indigenous to the area, a picture of the church, together with mouldings of heads and other features from gravestones and monuments in the churchyard, images of the traditional coal and bottle kilns that made the city famous, as well as high-tech industries, a tribute to Sir Stanley Matthews, whose funeral service was held at the Church, and a depiction of the Trent and Mersey Canal merging into the Sea of Galilee and then into the River Trent as it wraps round the base of the mosaic, unifying the design for the whole structure. Within this ribbon of mosaic, ammonites and different varieties of fish are depicted.
On the front of the bench, facing away from the church, are plaques depicting St Peter's Church and School, interspersed with heads, both European and Asian. The base of the seat features an image of two men in a boat, with a mast in the shape of an upside-down cross and two crossed keys (both emblems of St Peter, to whom the nearby church is dedicated).
The wildlife depicted on the right hand end of the bench includes a bat with outstretched wings, a squirrel, a rabbit, a frog, a snail, a fox, a butterfly, a robin, a blackbird, a magpie, a hedgehog and a wren.
The back of the bench celebrates the industrial heritage of Stoke on Trent. Its designs includes plaques featuring men in flat caps carrying pots to the kiln on wooden boards, bottle kilns, pit winding gear and factory chimneys. These are interspersed with smaller pieces commemorating the pottery produced in the area. Below the seat, the central design is of two cartoon-like figures in a canal barge. GoTonySmith

the discrete semiprimes 57 and 85 and is the base of the 23-aliquot tree.
23 is the first prime P for which unique factorization of cyclotomic integers based on the Pth root of unity breaks down.
The sum of the first 23 primes is 874, which is divisible by 23, a property shared by few other numbers.
In the list of fortunate numbers, 23 occurs twice, since adding 23 to either the fifth or eighth primorial gives a prime number (namely 2333 and 9699713).
23 also has the distinction of being one of two integers that cannot be expressed as the sum of fewer than 9 cubes of integers (the other is 239). See Waring's problem.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy CFE7H7 - £3.50 Tesco Clubcard Every Little Helps voucher - Tesco Clubcard (commonly referred to and branded as Clubcard) is the loyalty card of British supermarket chain Tesco.
The Clubcard scheme operates in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and several other countries. As of 2017, there were over 17 million users in the United Kingdom.
History
In 1993, Terry Leahy asked the Tesco marketing team to investigate the potential of loyalty cards. In the past Tesco had run Green Shield Stamps as a promotional tool which rewarded people for visits and spending, but gained no customer information. The initial team researched programmes across the world and developed a proposal which showed that a loyalty card could be very effective. The key change since the days of Green Shield Stamps was the ability to track individual customer behaviour cost-effectively using a magnetic stripe card.
In 1994, Grant Harrison attended a conference where Clive Humby from marketing firm dunnhumby was speaking. Dunnhumby was already working with clients such as Cable & Wireless and BMW, and Harrison approached them to help with the loyalty card project. Successful trials throughout 1994 led to the Tesco board asking Harrison and Humby to present to the annual Board strategy session.
The first response from the board came from Tesco's then-chairman Lord MacLaurin, who said, What scares me about this is that you know more about my customers after three months than I know after 30 years.

Aignish (Scottish Gaelic: Aiginis) is located northwest of Knock and east of Stornoway on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis (Scottish Gaelic: Leòdhas), Scotland. The township is at the island side of the isthmus connecting to the Eye peninsula.
Lewis is of Presbyterian tradition with a rich history, having once been part of the Norse Kingdom of Mann and the Isles. Today, life is very different from elsewhere in Scotland with Sabbath observance, the Gaelic language and peat cutting retaining more importance than elsewhere. Lewis has a rich cultural heritage as can be seen from its myths and legends as well as the local literary and musical traditions.
St Columba's Church, Aignish, Isle of Lewis. The crofting village contains the historic Eye Church (Scottish Gaelic: Eaglais na h-Aoidhe), a large pre-Reformation Church. The present church buildings are believed to be medieval, built during two separate construction phases. They were constructed on the site believed to be the cell of St. Catan, a contemporary of St. Columba. The church was the burial ground of the MacLeods of Lewis.
Saint Columba (7 December 521 “ 9 June 597 AD)”also known as Colum Cille (Old Irish, meaning dove of the church), Colm Cille (Irish), Calum Cille (Scottish Gaelic) and Kolban or Kolbjørn (Old Norse, meaning black bear)”was a Gaelic Irish missionary monk who propagated Christianity among the Picts during the Early Medieval Period. He was one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy D8FBDP - An ear is the grain-bearing tip part of the stem of a cereal plant, such as wheat or maize. It can also refer to a prominent lobe in some leaves.
The ear is a spike, consisting of a central stem on which grows tightly packed rows of flowers. These develop into fruits containing the edible seeds. In corn, it is protected by leaves called husks.
In some species (including wheat), unripe ears contribute significantly to photosynthesis, in addition to the leaves lower down the plant.
A parasite known as Anguina tritici (Ear Cockle) specifically affects the ears on wheat and rye by destroying the tissues and stems during growth. With exception to North Africa and West Asia, the parasite has been eradicated in all countries by using the crop rotation system

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2N482TN - How NHS bowel cancer screening scheme works, in the UK

Formerly operating as Gala Bingo clubs, they were re-branded as Buzz Bingo clubs in September 2018, whilst the Gala brand continues to run its own online bingo and casino offerings under the ownership of Entain plc.
Buzz Bingo has undergone several changes in ownership and branding including through acquisitions. They were originally Coral branded, a division of Bass plc. In 1983, there were 22 clubs and 24 located in their Pontins holiday camps.
The ownership acquisitions included a chain of 80 bingo clubs from Thorn EMI for £18.2 million in 1983, followed by another 30 by purchasing Zetters Leisure for £23 million in 1988.[5] Granada plc's chain of 74 bingo clubs were added in 1991 for £147 million. This merger with Granada led to the company rebranding as Gala Clubs later that year.[8] Gala was officially launched on 17 October 1991 when 17 clubs re-branded and launched a new image. There followed a series of further acquisitions under the Gala brand, including 17 clubs from Ritz in July 1998, 10 clubs from Jarglen in March 2000 and 27 Riva Bingo Clubs from First Leisure for £90 million in April 2000.
Buzz Bingo operates 82 High Street clubs throughout Great Britain. It launched its online bingo offering, buzzbingo.com, powered by Playtech software, shortly after the rebrand from Gala to Buzz was completed in 2018.
In 2022, in conjunction with Playtech, Buzz Bingo launched their Single Wallet offering, paving the way for an omni-channel business. The launch of this product created the possibility for customers to use their funds across both online and the retail estate.
In 2023, Buzz Bingo launched a further online offering, buzzcasino.com, in an aim to further capture the Casino market as well as bingo, again powered by Playtech

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JTNA3R - THERE is good news for electric vehicle drivers in and around Warrington, as the council has announced free electric charging at its Time Square car park and Warrington West station.
The initiative, which has been confirmed for at least the next six months, will help to support those who are making the switch from petrol and diesel to electric.
There are currently 56 charging points at the Time Square car park “ one of the highest number of charging points in a single location in the country “ with another 12 charging points available at the new Warrington West station.
The move to offering free electric vehicle charging comes after the council's climate emergency declaration in June.
The plans to encourage electric vehicle travel also support the council's Air Quality Action Plan, which aims to reduce nitrogen dioxide levels within the main, busy traffic routes leading into and around the town.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, cabinet member for environment, who drives an electric car herself, said: It's great news that I'm able to announce free charging points for electric vehicle users here in Warrington. We're committed to doing all we can to help people become more environmentally-friendly in and around the borough - more at https://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/news/18243487.free-electric-vehicle-charging-points-warrington-west-time-square-car-parks/

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy JH6749 - Brexit: What is the Northern Ireland Protocol?
Northern Ireland Protocol - agreed with the European Union (EU) in 2019 - has been a source of tension since it came into force at the start of 2021.
Special trading arrangements were needed for Northern Ireland after the UK voted for Brexit in 2016. This is because it's the only part of the UK with a land border with an EU country - the Republic of Ireland.
Before Brexit, it was easy to transport goods across this border because both sides had the same EU trade rules. No checks or paperwork were necessary.
After Brexit, a new system was needed because the EU has strict food rules and requires border checks when certain goods - such as milk and eggs - arrive from non-EU countries.
UK and the EU agreed that protecting the 1998 Northern Ireland peace deal - the Good Friday Agreement - was an absolute priority. So, both sides signed the Northern Ireland Protocol as part of the Brexit withdrawal agreement, which is now part of international law.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss says the Protocol has caused problems which had not been expected when the agreement was signed.
The government now wants to ditch parts of the deal.
It wants to create red lanes and green lanes for goods imported from Britain into Northern Ireland.

The new car park, which was due to open
in December 2017, is a great example of
how architects and contractors can work in
partnership with Maple to transform typically
dull and utilitarian buildings into an integral and
aesthetically appealing part of the urban realm.
With its hexagon-featured golden façade, the
car park complements the other elements of
the £107m Time Square development.
The new car park is an integral and important
part of the Time Square project as it will
underpin and support the whole scheme, said
the leader of Warrington Borough Council, Terry
O'Neill.
Architect's ratings
Leach Rhodes Walker described us as ˜excellent'
after the successful collaboration. Maple's
knowledge and craftsmanship was excellent
throughout, said LRW's lead project designer,
Ka Yin Man. From when we spoke to sales
about the commercials, to (dealing with) the
design and projects teams, the whole experience
was collaborative. In a post-project interview,
the architects' firm gave us top marks for design
services, project support, meeting deadlines
and the quality of the finished product. Added
Ka Yin: Maple were always helpful, and any
questions were dealt with promptly. Everyone
was very knowledgeable and accommodating.
The end result was even better than expected
The project was one of the first to use the new
dedicated prototype area at Maple's factory in
Stockport. The architects and contractors I & H
Brown Construction were able to view real-life
examples of the bespoke perforated panels and
golden hexagon cut-outs - at actual size. The
prototypes were powder-coated in the specified
colour, and fitted to the display framework using
actual fittings - meaning that any changes to the
design or specification could be made without
it having a major impact on timings or budget

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HDEYMM - Since the onset of the Troubles in 1971, Nationalist and Loyalist communities throughout Northern Ireland have been divided by Peace Walls. These large stone and steel constructions were designed to protect neighbourhoods from sporadic attacks and retain a sense of peace and protection.
Of the city's 17 walls, West Belfast's sections are the most visited. Once in the area it's easy to determine which side of the divide you're on: red, white and blue kerbstones, Loyalist murals and Union Jacks indicate you're on the Shankill. If the kerbs are green, white and gold, the flag is Irish and the murals are Republican, you're on the Falls.
You can cross from one side to the other via access roads at Lanark Way and Northumberland Street. These roads close in times of heightened tension, which may well be the case during the marching season (see The Twelfth).

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy R9GTE3 - Electric Vehicle recharging point only, Eskbank Railway station, Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland, UK has the strength of a real-world scene: ordinary enough to be believable, but specific enough to support precise editorial use. Railway carriages, platforms and station approaches are everyday public spaces where national transport policy becomes visible in delays, rolling stock, staffing, safety, accessibility and passenger comfort. The scene suits transport features on regional connectivity, rail investment, commuting, city-region economies and the difference between headline infrastructure schemes and ordinary journeys. The location detail, Dalkeith, strengthens searches for regional features, travel pages, local-history pieces and news use where a named place matters. Relevant editorial themes include Victorian bank, financial architecture, adaptive reuse, historic pub, railway station, passenger rail, train travel and public transport, with each theme rooted in the visible subject, place or activity. It can work both as a straightforward location record and as a wider editorial illustration of the habits, services, buildings, symbols and small commercial details that shape everyday life.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy GY1D8N - Photo shows Holding barley in the hand, from a field in summer, Cheshire,England, UK. The image is useful for illustrating British and Irish pub culture, real ale, traditional bars, hospitality, visitor economy stories and the continued importance of pubs as social places. Where a named pub, brewery, beer pump, pint glass or drinking street is visible, it can support articles on licensed premises, cask ale, CAMRA interest, tourism, nightlife, local character and changing high streets. The supplied location evidence places the subject at or near Cheshire, England, UK, which adds value for buyers searching by town, city, region or postcode. Weather and season may be visible outside or through the setting
the subject has clear hospitality and leisure value. It should work for editorial buyers needing authentic, non-staged British or travel imagery for news, magazine, blog, local government, heritage, housing, transport, tourism, retail, public policy or social commentary use. The caption should be checked against the visible photograph before upload so that any readable signs, weather, time of day and people context are accurately reflected without overstating facts not shown in the image. The strongest sales value is the combination of named subject, real location and everyday documentary style, giving picture editors a flexible image that can sit alongside features, opinion pieces, explainers, historical retrospectives and local news. Search relevance is helped by including concise place names, visible brand or wording, functional subject terms, and wider editorial concepts such as public realm, consumer behaviour, heritage, travel, leisure and community life where they genuinely match the picture.
