It is a 902-seat opera house that hosts the annual Buxton Festival and the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival, among others, as well as pantomime at Christmas, musicals and other entertainments year-round. Hosting live performances until 1927, the theatre then was used mostly as a cinema until 1976. In 1979, it was refurbished and reopened as a venue for live performance.
The Buxton Opera House was built in 1903 and designed by Frank Matcham, who designed the London Palladium, the London Coliseum and many other theatres throughout the UK. The first production at the theatre was Mrs Willoughby's Kiss. The Opera House ran as a successful theatre, receiving touring companies until 1927, when it was turned into a cinema. Silent films were shown until 1932 when the theatre was wired for sound and could present talkies. The Opera House also became the venue for an annual summer theatre festival from 1936 to 1942, two of them in conjunction with Lilian Baylis and her London-based Old Vic company. People who performed at the opera house include the actor Alec Guinness, the comedians Ken Dodd, Peter Kay, Harry Hill, Sarah Millican and John Bishop, the musical artists Howard Jones, Aled Jones, Leo Sayer and Razorlight, and the ballerina Anna Pavlova.
After the Second World War, the theatre continued to serve primarily as a cinema. The building was designated a Grade II* listed building in 1970. The Opera House gradually fell into disrepair.
In 1979, the building was restored, and an orchestra pit was added to the original Matcham design. Since then, the Opera House has been a full-time venue for stage productions, presenting approximately 450 performances per year

The building was designed in the style of a French château (with a mansard roof crested with iron railings, Venetian windows and a clocktower with a cupola) by Manchester architect William Pollard (who also designed Buxton College's Gothic-style 'new building' in 1880). After the Market Hall (designed by Henry Currey) was destroyed by a fire in September 1885, the site was selected for the new town hall. The fire brigade with the town's new fire engine was unable to control the fire started by a paraffin lamp in one of the shops in the Market Hall. A competition was held in 1886 for the design of the new town hall. William Pollard's design won the £50 prize and James Salt's local firm was selected to build it at a tender of £8,900 (Salt also built the Entertainment Stage theatre, which is now the Pavilion Arts Centre). The chairman of the governing Local Board, Edward Milligan, laid the foundation stone in June 1887 (the year of the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria). The Marquess of Hartington conducted the official opening of the town hall on 26 June 1889.
The clock on the clock tower was a gift from the Duke of Devonshire's tenants in 1889, in honour of Lord Frederick Cavendish, who was stabbed to death aged 45 in the Phoenix Park Murders in Dublin in May 1882 (shortly after arriving to take up his new post as Chief Secretary for Ireland). There is a bust of Lord Cavendish (son of the 7th Duke of Devonshire) on display inside the town hall
Current use - High Peak Borough Council, formed in 1974, presently has administrative centres at Buxton Town Hall and Glossop Town Hall. Full Council meetings are usually held in Buxton or at Chapel-en-le-Frith Town Hall

It is 6 miles (10 kilometres) north of the River Mersey, in the south-west part of historic Lancashire. The town was formerly within the historic county's ancient hundred of West Derby as a small settlement in the township of Windle. Function
Due to their relatively low security and potential isolation from assistance while en route, police or additional corrections vehicles sometimes escort high-risk transports. With this in mind, vehicles may also be equipped with radio communications, global positioning units, additional restraints and weapons, and other emergency equipment. To add additional security, prisoners are typically restrained while in transport and may be physically secured to the vehicle, handcuffed while in the secured area, or a combination of both.
Prisoner transport vehicles may be operated by police services (see paddywagon), correctional services, field officers, court services, federal agencies such as the United States Marshals Service, or be contracted to private security companies. Prison buses were widely used in the late 1900s to transport prisoners, especially to state prisons across the US. They were usually quite secure and offered no way of escape for transporting prisoners.

In the mid-1980s the paving on a road through Heptonstall was removed, revealing the original stone setts. Although there was a plan to remove the setts, local protests convinced the council to restore them. At the same time the existing concrete street lights were replaced with late 19th-century cast-iron gas lamps. Both developments acted as a traffic calming measure.

Record Store Day is an annual event inaugurated in 2007 and held on one Saturday (typically the third) every April and every Black Friday in November to celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store. The day brings together fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores around the world. A number of records are pressed specifically for Record Store Day, with a list of releases for each country, and are only distributed to shops participating in the event.
Originally pitched as an idea to create an event similar to Free Comic Book Day by Bull Moose Music's Chris Brown and Criminal Record's Eric Levin, the concept for Record Store Day was created during a brainstorming session at a meeting of independent record store owners in Baltimore, Maryland
Record Store Day 2022 announced Taylor Swift as its first-ever global ambassador, for its 15th anniversary celebrations, and took place on April 23, 2022. An RSD Drops date also took place on June 18, 2022 to release items that were either delayed in production or could not be made in time for Record Store Day in April.
Record Store Day 2018 took place on Saturday, April 21, 2018. To celebrate, The Alarm visited stores in London, New York, and Los Angeles throughout the day. Special releases included albums by Prince, Ella Fitzgerald, and Bruce Springsteen, among others. The BBC released two full-cast television soundtracks of the Doctor Who serials The Tomb of the Cybermen and City of Death with newly commissioned gatefold artwork. The ambassadors for the event were Run The Jewels.

He was the lead singer of the late-1970s punk band the Sex Pistols, which was active from 1975 to 1978, and again for various revivals during the 1990s and 2000s. He is also the lead singer of post-punk band Public Image Ltd (PiL), which he founded and fronted from 1978 until 1993, and again since 2009.
Lydon's outspoken personality, rebellious image and fashion style led to his being asked to become the singer of the Sex Pistols by their manager, Malcolm McLaren. With the Sex Pistols, he penned singles including Anarchy in the U.K., God Save the Queen and Holidays in the Sun, the content of which precipitated what one commentator described as the 'last and greatest outbreak of pop-based moral pandemonium' in Britain. The band scandalised much of the media, and Lydon was seen as a figurehead of the burgeoning punk movement. Because of their controversial lyrics and disrepute at the time, they are regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of popular music.
After the Sex Pistols disbanded in 1978, Lydon founded his own band, Public Image Ltd, which was far more experimental in nature and described in a 2005 review by NME as 'arguably the first post-rock group'

Warrington has seven railway stations within its boundaries. The town has two main railway stations, Bank Quay on the London to Glasgow and Chester Warrington Newton-le-Willows Manchester lines, and Central on the Liverpool Widnes Manchester line and the Transpennine route. Bank Quay is much altered, but Central (built 1873) is of some architectural merit, featuring polychromatic brickwork. However, both main railway stations have suffered from years of under investment. A new entrance and concourse has been built at Bank Quay, and similar work started in July 2010 at Central station. There are also stations in the suburbs at Warrington West, Sankey, Glazebrook, Padgate and Birchwood.
The town and its districts are fairly well served by bus services. Warrington's Own Buses is the main provider of services, operating most of the day time bus routes. Arriva North West, First Greater Manchester. National Express also operate their long-distance services through Warrington. Most services that serve Warrington depart from and arrive at Warrington Interchange. However services can be caught from various points around the town centre, principally Rylands Street (for South and Eastbound routes), Academy Way (Inbound and Eastbound routes), Warrington Central for Northbound services, Sankey Street for Westbound, Eastbound and Southbound buses.

In 1964, John Nichols opened his first shop in Kingston upon Hull, by 1985 the Nichols family (John, his wife Molly and his two sons Paul and Robert) had eight stores in towns such as Whitby and Bridlington, and in 1995 the store count had increased to 12 with locations in Richmond and Ripon. With the demise of high street giant Woolworths in 2008, 11 more shops were also added to the portfolio.
The business had several speciality stores under different names
James Piper was the name given to a glassware store in Driffield operated by Tom Nichols, John's youngest son. Other store names such as JC Nichols and Barmy Bob's were phased out in 2000 as the company rebranded all of their locations under the Yorkshire Trading Company banner and became a limited company.
In 2015, work was completed on the construction of a new purpose built distribution centre and head office, costing £7 million, located at Kellythorpe Industrial Estate, Driffield.
Rydale
A range of outdoor, equestrian and country fashion that is designed in-house and manufactured mostly in the United Kingdom. The first Rydale products were imported in 2001 (then known as Snow Drop) and since then it has become the largest clothing operation on trade show circuits around the UK, with over 140 shows attended

the site was the location of the 'Old Works' which was demolished in the early 1980s.
History
The centre was established in the old London, Midland and Scottish Railway yard, which was once part of Crewe Works, between the junction to Chester and the West Coast Main Line. It was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, on 24 July 1987. It was renamed in 1992 as Crewe Railway Age by the owning registered charity but, after the management of the centre was taken over by a new group of volunteers, the museum returned to its original name of Crewe Heritage Centre in early 2008.
Exhibits
The centre has a series of exhibits, ranging from the only surviving APT-P train, miniature railways, three open signal boxes (Crewe Station A, Crewe North Junction and Exeter West) and a varied collection of standard gauge steam, diesel and electric locomotives, as well as occasional visiting locomotives. The Main Exhibition Hall features many artefacts and exhibits associated with Crewe, from its locomotive and carriage construction to its famous junction railway station. Brake Van rides are available to the public during special events.
Advanced Passenger Train
APT No.370 003/006 at Crewe Heritage Centre
Built by British Rail (BR) the 1970s and 1980s, this Class 370 Advanced Passenger Train (APT) is the only surviving APT set. Numbered 370 003/006, it is open at all times with an occasional cafe run from the original buffet car (selected days only). The APT-P museum can be found inside one of the carriages, with photographs on display from the APT project

The church sanctuary is somewhat exceptional in being of a triangular shape (Δ) much like the sweets called Toblerone and being the first modern church since the English reformation in Culcheth. The older village area under its squire was recusant, and thus the Church of England church serving the village was outside the village at Newchurch. The local Roman Catholic church is also outside the village. Culcheth Methodist Church is now home to the old bell from Culcheth Hall chapel, the squire's private Catholic chapel, which has passed through the other churches to Culcheth Methodist Church for safekeeping, and is in regular use as it is rung to announce services and continuation of worship in many forms in the village.
For safety and proof of theft, all metal and equipment within the church is marked with Smartwater for forensic tracing. The bell is no longer hung in the church, but has disappeared in the refurbishment to enlarge the foyer, and the inability of Methodist Organisation to accept risk of it falling or hurting someone if they bumped into it

Willow House was converted to a police station in 1858 to the designs of James Medland of Gloucester (the County Surveyor between 1857 and 1889). Medland designed most of the county's eleven purpose-built courts and police stations constructed between the 1860s and 1880s. Extensions to Stroud police station, designed by Medland, were carried out in 1885-6 when a cell block, stables and an office block to the north-west of the station were built. The office block was converted to a Petty Sessional Court in 1908 by Robert Phillips, architect to the Gloucestershire Education Committee. Other extensions and alterations were also carried out in the C20. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building and possesses special architectural and historic interest within a national context. It was built in 1906 as an extension to Waterloo House and the existing library with a grant from Andrew Carnegie, and closed in 2012
In 1902, more library and reading room space was needed. The Runcorn Free Library Committee applied to Andrew Carnegie to fund the extension. Carnegie had provided grants for many other libraries in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. Carnegie replied in 1903 that he had received an overwhelming number of applications. In 1904 Carnegie refused the grant as he believed the income of the Library Committee would not support larger premises. An amended application was made and Carnegie gifted £3,000 in November 1904 to erect a new public library stipulating that a site must also be given for the building. At a Runcorn Urban District Council meeting in June 1905 it was decided to carry out the plans for the library alteration and extension using the £3,000 gifted by Carnegie. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JDJ4J2 - The parish of Christ Church started with the building of an infant's school when the population of Latchford grew large enough to warrant such a school. This building still exists and it is now known as Wash Lane Schoolroom. However, after the death of Thomas Greenall, and following his wishes, his family decided to build a small sandstone church of Gothic design. The church consisted of a nave and chancel with an ornamental spire and its first priest was the Reverend Richard Greenall. On Tuesday, 16th July 1861 the Bishop of Chester, the Right Rev. Dr. John Graham, consecrated the church under the name of Christ Church. One can still find a brass plate in the chancel of the church commemorating the event: To the glory of God, and in affectionate memory of the late Thomas Greenall of Wilderspool and Grappenhall this church was erected Anno Domini 1861.
Christ Church was originally a chapel of ease to the mother church of St. Wilfrid at Grappenhall and was made a parish by Order of Council on 12th March 1866 with a population of 1,031 people. The parish priest at that time was the Reverend W.R. Burgess. The Vicarage was built in 1867 on land adjoining the church bought by Thomas Greenall's sons.
In 1875-76 a gallery at the west end of the nave was removed along with the organ. A transept, organ chamber and a vestry were added on the north side of the church. An organ which originally belonged to St. Wilfrid's church was installed as well as the west tracery window and a sedilia was placed in the
Sanctuary. Stained glass windows were placed at the south side of the chancel and at the southwest end of the nave. At the beginning of September 1882 an alabaster reredos and chancel arch were added.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AAT2T1 - The beginnings of Anchor Line Ltd can be seen in 1838 when two brothers, Nicol and Robert Handyside, established themselves in Glasgow, Scotland, as shipbrokers and merchants. They used chartered tonnage to trade with the Baltic and Russia. The business operated under the name N & R Handyside & Co, and in 1852 the name Anchor Line was used by them for the first time, but only as a by-line in an advertisement.
In the same year Thomas Henderson joined the business. The business bought its first ship from the builders in 1854. In June 1855, Thomas Henderson became a full partner and the firm was renamed Handysides & Henderson. This firm became D & W Henderson when shipbuilding commenced. That company went out of business in 1863, and the trade was taken over by the Anchor Line of Peninsular & Mediterranean Steam Packets.
In 1865, the Anchor Line opened its own office in New York under the name Henderson Brothers, and sold tickets through more than three thousand ticket agencies throughout North America. An office was also opened in Londonderry, Ireland. In 1869, Henderson Brothers opened offices at Liverpool, England, and Dundee, Scotland.
A service from Naples, Italy, to New York began. In November 1869, the Suez Canal opened and this made India as important to the Anchor Line as America now that the Far East was 4,000 miles closer. An Anchor vessel made the first British merchant ship journey, southbound through the canal, on the day following the opening.
In 1872, the Anchor Line and D & W Henderson jointly bought the shipyard of Tod & MacGregor, Meadowside, Partick, Glasgow, to build the hulls into which the engines from D & W Henderson's Finnieston works could be fitted. They opened a Manchester office in 1882.
In 1899, the name Anchor Line (Henderson Bros) Ltd came into being by the formation of a limited liability company. The Cunard Steamship Co Ltd bought the whole of the Ordinary shares of the Anchor Line (Henderson Bros) Ltd in 1911.

History
The company was established by Lord Harris of Peckham in 1988 when he opened its first shop in Canning Town. It was first listed on the London Stock Exchange in June 1993. In 1999, the company expanded through the acquisition of selected shops from Carpetland and Allied Carpets. It acquired its first operations in Continental Europe in 2002, and in 2005 acquired May's World of Carpets. In 2007, it added the Storey Carpets business, a firm based in Sunderland, which had 54 stores at the time.
Cascade Investment, LLC, the investment vehicle of Bill Gates, acquired a 3% in the company in May 2008. Carpetright expanded again with the purchase of Sleepright UK in 2008. However, in June 2011 it announced significant shop closure plans and that year posted its first loss since 1993.
It was reported on 21 March 2018 that Carpetright was struggling after issuing several profit warnings, and that it was looking at possible shop closures. On 12 April 2018, it was announced that Carpetright would close 92 stores, with a total loss of 300 jobs out of the total workforce of 2,700, as part of restructuring measures
In May 2018, Carpetright secured a £15 million loan to provide short-term working capital. In November 2019, Carpetright announced that its largest shareholder, Meditor, had agreed to purchase the company. A bid of £15.2 million was accepted by the company, amid fears it could not pay off its debt. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M84KAB - Though an earlier license had existed on part of the current site of The Temple Bar, we can directly trace the existing license back to 1835 when enterprising publican, Cornelius O'Meara, Grocer, Tea, Wine, and Spirit Merchant acquired the blossoming location at the corner of Temple Lane and adjacent to Samuel Figgis, Porter Merchant, who ran his thriving brewing business here. The city of Dublin was experiencing something of an economic renaissance at this time and Temple Bar was idyllically laced between the river and the administrative centre of Dublin.
O'Meara was a committed publican intent on spreading his wings. He also ran another pub at No. 1 Wood Quay. This was then at the epicentre of Dublin 19th century rag trade. O'Meara's two nearest neighbours were Christopher McCauley, Hat Manufacturer, and Edward Loman, Hatter.
O'Meara served almost a decade at the Temple Bar Pub before he sold out to James Farley, Grocer and Spirit Merchant in 1844. James Farley knew the business here very well, having made but a short journey from 38 East Essex Street where he had operated as a Provisions dealer. James Farley's reign at this old hostelery was of brief duration.
The Great Famine was raging across the country with unprecedented horror and devastation when William Cranston, a much respected Dublin publican, took the wheel in 1847.
During the middle to late 1850s, a new wave of Provisions, Dealers and Dram Grocers had infiltrated the Temple Bar area. They operated the practise of dram-drinking'. The Dram Grocers allowed customers to buy spirits in an off-sales liquor store capacity and illegally consume them on the premises behind screens and makeshift partitions. This practice created much financial hardship for the authorities and regular or legitimate vintners (wine merchants).
William Cranston was a member of the License Trade delegation who traveled to lobby the British Parliament in Westminster, London, in 1863 to have this practice forbidden

The Union Bank was an early joint stock bank in the industrial heartland of Lancashire, established in 1836 with a capital of £6 million divided into 24,000 shares of £25 each. Although the original intention of the Union Bank was to confine itself to Manchester, after twenty years this policy was changed, and its first branch opened at Knutsford in 1856. The bank flourished with the growth of industry and acquired several smaller banks in Lancashire, Cheshire and Yorkshire. It became an affiliated bank within the Barclays Group in 1919, when 99% of its capital was acquired under an arrangement whereby Union Bank shareholders were given shares in Barclays to replace their Union Bank shares. DEREK Watson, who has died aged 69 following a short illness, was a man of many parts and arts. Those who knew the Edinburgh-born renaissance man as an actor performing under the name Derwent Watson at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow may not have been aware that Watson began his relationship with the Citz as a musical director on Christmas shows, becoming forever known thereafter as Uncle Derek.
Similarly, the youngsters watching Uncle Derek will not have known of Watson's passion for Wagner and other composers he was an authority on, penning several biographies on them, and slipping little classical passages into his compositions for the Citz's festive fare un-noticed. Nor might those who heard Watson give lectures on Wagner and others be aware of his long-standing role as proprietor of a bookshop in West Linton where he lived for more than 20 years, with both he and the shop immortalised in a novel by Alexander McCall Smith.
In 1994, having been a resident in West Linton for a decade, he opened Linton Books. Once he had retired from the theatre, the shop provided him with an alternative stage, playing' the proprietor of the shop to entertain customers. Book signings by authors included Alexander McCall Smith, whose second novel in the Sunday Philosophy Club series, Friends, Lovers, Chocolate, published in 2005, found the book's heroine Isabel Dalhousie visiting Derek in his capacity as bookseller. The shop itself featured during the unravelling of the story's mystery.
Being immortalised in such a way was the perfect compliment to Watson, who retained a curiosity for the finer things in life that went beyond his considerable intellect to draw out the fun beneath.

Dozens of independent stalls, small shops and boutiques operate in the one building. The building was once home to Affleck & Brown, one of the city's principal department stores. A bar on the original site opened in 2015, under the Affleck & Brown name.
Affleck & Brown was started in the 1860s as a drapery business in Oldham Street. The store grew to occupy a whole block between Oldham Street, Church Street and Tib Street and become a full flung department store. The business had a good reputation as a credit draper and was known for a good range of cloth for home dressmaking as well as a furrier.
Affleck's Palace first opened in 1982 by James and Elaine Walsh with an ethos of offering a safe environment for entrepreneurs to start out with affordable rent and no long-term contracts. Unit holders operated under a licence agreement which allowed them to pay for space on a week by week basis. The atmosphere and colourful maze-like layout led to Affleck's becoming a mecca for alternative culture. The establishment was able to bounce back from two building fires and overcame many obstacles.
During the 1990s 'Madchester Summer of Love' period, when local bands such as the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets were at the height of their popularity, Affleck's Palace was a fashionable place to get oversized flared jeans and tie dyed T-shirts and 'Eastern Bloc' was a popular record shop as it dealt in all the latest underground dance tunes.

It is the second busiest interchange station outside London, with almost 3.8 million passengers changing trains annually.
Between the late 1990s and early 2000s, Piccadilly Station was refurbished, taking five years and costing £100 million (in 2002), it was the most expensive improvement on the UK rail network at the time. Further improvements and expansion plans have been mooted. In October 2016, a Transport and Works Act application was submitted for the construction of two platforms as part of the Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Oxford Road Capacity Scheme. As of 2018, this application has not been approved by the government. To allow the station to accommodate high speed services under High Speed 2 proposals, five platforms would be required and the Metrolink station would be reconfigured.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RGGE55 - The Collegiate Church of St. Stephan, known in German as St. Stephan zu Mainz, is a Gothic hall collegiate church located in the German city of Mainz. It is known for windows created by Marc Chagall.
St. Stephan was originally built in 990 at the order of Archbishop Willigis, who also initiated the building of Mainz Cathedral. The church was founded on top of the highest hill in the town, most likely on behalf of Theophanu, the widow of Otto II, Holy Roman Emperor. Willigis intended the church to be a site of prayer for the Empire.
The provost of the Collegiate Church administered one of the archdiaconates (a medieval organizational form similar to today's diaconates) of the Archbishopric of Mainz.
The current church building dates from the late medieval era
construction of the main area of the church began in about 1267 and was completed in 1340. The successional building kept the guidelines of the floor plan of the original Willigis building and with it the design as a double choir church. St. Stephan is the oldest Gothic hall church in the Upper Rhine district, and is (besides Mainz Cathedral) the most important church in the city of Mainz.

Only a few changes have been made to the church since the 14th century. The cloister, for instance, was added between 1462 and 1499 to the southern side of the church, and the outer face of the church was updated during the Baroque period. In 1857 a great explosion in a nearby powder magazine (Mainz was a federal fortress in the 19th century) destroyed the baroque facing of the church.
St. Stephan was heavily damaged in the cause of the bombing of Mainz in World War II. The cloister was heavily damaged and was rebuilt between 1968 and 1971
the restoration of the huge western belfry was also completed at that time, albeit with some difficulty.

Nearby towns include Gainsborough to the east, Retford to the south south-east, Worksop to the south-west and Doncaster to the north-west. Bawtry is located in the metropolitan borough of Doncaster on the border with Nottinghamshire, and is situated between Bircotes and Misson at the conjunction of the A614, A631 and A638 roads. The present A638 was for centuries the Great North Road, and in the 20th century the town was a notorious bottleneck, until it was bypassed in 1965. The county boundary with Nottinghamshire runs just to the south of the town and for this reason the southernmost house on the Great North Road is named 'Number One Yorkshire'.
The town's former prosperity was based on its communications, the River Idle in the days when it was a port, the Great North Road in the coaching era, and the Great Northern Railway.
Bawtry's geographical location is 53° 25' 40 North, 1° 1' West, at an elevation of around 65 feet (20 m) above sea level.
The town is located just south of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, formerly RAF Finningley. Bawtry Hall was home to RAF No.1 Group Bomber Command during and after the Second World War, and became the Headquarters of RAF Strike Command (see RAF Bawtry). From 1989 to 2013 Bawtry Hall operated as a Christian conference centre and a base for several Christian organisations.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy P4HWMD - The Vagabonds Carnival Club was founded in 1947 by Ken Parsons and Walt Creedy, and the club's first entry, The Miners, took first place at Bridgwater Carnival. Members originally met at Unity House (the local Labour Party headquarters) for a room rent of one shilling per night.
The following year, the club moved to The Railway Hotel, and the new home brought further success, after winning the carnival concerts with the stage show Gay Bachelors.
The Bristol and Exeter Pub (St John Street) became home to the club in 1951, before it moved to Ye Olde Oake (High Street) after club member, Ray Heal, took a tenancy with local brewers Starkey, Knight and Ford.
In 2001, the club were looking for a new site to build its entries after being forced to leave its cart building site at Huntworth after 17 years. After identifying a suitable new site at Dunwear, the club set about constructing a new shed. The cost of doing this, in terms of both time and money, proved a heavy burden, and for the first time in its history, the club was unable to enter a cart into Bridgwater Carnival in 2002. So in true carnival spirit, some members rode the procession route on the back of a lorry, with the remaining members walking behind.
The club is currently based at The Gallery, High Street, Bridgwater.
Whatever happens, The Vagabonds Carnival Club has already done enough to stamp its mark in the annals of carnival history and will, with luck, continue to do so for a long time to come.

On 31 March 2008, Affleck's Palace ceased trading. It re-opened on 1 April 2008 as Afflecks under new management. Afflecks is now managed by Mancunian property developer Bruntwood after the expiry of a 25-year lease in 2007. It had been previously suggested that Bruntwood would redevelop the building, possibly leading to its closure as a market, with many traders having feared that closure would be likely and that notice could have been given as soon as the end of January

The TARDIS Time And Relative Dimension In Space is a fictional time machine and spacecraft that appears in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who and its various spin-offs.
The TV show Doctor Who mainly features a single TARDIS used by the central character the Doctor. However, in the series other TARDISes are sometimes seen or used. The Doctor's TARDIS has a number of features peculiar to it, notably due to its age and personality. While other TARDISes have the ability to change their appearance in order to blend in with their surroundings, the chameleon circuit in the Doctor's TARDIS is broken, and it always resembles a police box. However, in the new series, a perception filter is used to blend in with the surroundings so it is often ignored by passersby. While the exterior is of limited size, the TARDIS is much bigger on the inside, containing an apparently infinite number of rooms, corridors and storage spaces within.
Doctor Who has become so much a part of British popular culture that the shape of the police box has become associated with the TARDIS rather than with its real-world inspiration. Its name is derived from the French town of Châtellerault, the title Duc de Châtellerault having been granted to James Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Arran in 1548 for his part in arranging the marriage of Mary, Queen of Scots, to Francis, Dauphin of France.
The country park is centred on the former hunting lodge, a folly designed to be seen from the now demolished Hamilton Palace at the end of a broad grass slope forming an avenue with lines of lime trees. The lodge was designed by William Adam and completed in 1734. It comprises two buildings, linked by a gateway, in the form of four pavilions above a garden wall. The north facade was visible from the palace and forms the front of the building. To the rear are formal parterre gardens. The buildings provided kennels, stables and accommodation for hunting parties returning from the woodlands to the south. Adam jokingly referred to his creation as 'The Dogg Kennel'

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F89PKA - The Usher Hall is a 5 star concert hall, situated on Lothian Road, in the west end of Edinburgh, Scotland. It has hosted concerts and events since its construction in 1914 and can hold approximately 2,200 people in its recently restored auditorium, which is well loved by performers due to its acoustics. The Hall is flanked by The Royal Lyceum Theatre on the right and The Traverse Theatre on the left. Historic Scotland has registered the Hall with Category A listed building status.
The construction of the hall was funded by Andrew Usher, a whisky distiller and blender, who donated £100,000 to the city specifically to fund a new concert hall. The choice of site caused early delays but in 1910 an architectural competition was announced with the requirement that the hall be simple but dignified. The winning bid (one of 130 entries) came from Stockdale Harrison & Howard H Thomson of Leicester. The design was partly a backlash against Victorian Gothic, with a return to classical features owing much to the Beaux-Arts style. On 19 July 1911, George V and Queen Mary laid two memorial stones, an event attended by over a thousand people.

Tweeds are an icon of traditional Scottish, Irish, Welsh and English clothing, being desirable for informal outerwear, due to the material being moisture-resistant and durable. The station was built in 1847, in a neo-Tudor style to the designs of William Tite.[2] It was then one of a number of stations in the city - the others were at Crown Street (Maryport & Carlisle Railway) and London Road (Newcastle and Carlisle Railway) - but had become the main one by 1851
it was expanded and extended in 1875-1876, with the arrival of the Midland Railway (who became the seventh different company to serve it).
The Beeching Axe fell with very significant rail closures including the former North British Railway lines to Silloth (closed on 7 September 1964) and Edinburgh via Galashiels (the Waverley Line, closed on 6 January 1969). The axe cut off the Castle Douglas and Dumfries Railway and Portpatrick Railway in 1965 resulting in an adverse mileage increase via the Glasgow South Western Line to reach Stranraer Harbour and thus Northern Ireland.
The layout has also undergone few changes of any significance other than the singling of the ex-NER Tyne Valley route down to London Road Junction as part of the 1972-3 re-signalling scheme associated with WCML electrification.

Eleven small denominations, all sharing the Wesleyan heritage, came together in a series of unions between 1896 and 1958. One of those unions in 1908 is taken as the official beginning of the Church.

Thirty-eight is the 11th distinct semiprime and the 7th in the {2.q} family. It is the initial member of the third distinct semiprime pair (38, 39). 38 is the sum of the squares of the first three primes.
38 is the atomic number of strontium and the 38th parallel north is the pre-Korean War boundary between North Korea and South Korea.
The number 38 was especially prominent in Norse mythology. The number was said to represent unnatural bravery, characteristic of the legendary heroes of Norse sagas. Most legendary sagas were divided into 38 chapters, and the number often recurred throughout stories, with the heroes combating giants or other beasts in groups of 38. The number came to be adopted by the Hardrada clan, and was displayed on their crest in the form of 38 ravens set around 38 outward-facing arrows.
The number of games that each team in the current English Premiership, the top division in English Association Football, plays in a season. Its the number of years it took the Israelites to travel from Kadesh Barnea to the Zered valley in Deuteronomy.

The George and Dragon is a public house in the village of Great Budworth, Cheshire, England. It is designated by English Heritage as a Grade II listed building.
Great Budworth is a village that was formerly in the estate of Arley Hall. In the later part of the 19th century, its owner, Rowland Egerton-Warburton, undertook a campaign to restore the village and render it picturesque in Victorian eyes.
The George and Dragon was at that time a simple three-bay Georgian inn. In 1875 Egerton-Warburton commissioned the Chester architect John Douglas to undertake the restoration. Douglas added tall rubbed chimneys, mullioned windows and a steep pyramidal turret
On each side of the porch is an oak post-and-rail fence inscribed with a number of sayings. Above the inner door is a stone containing a verse written by Egerton-Warburton. Internally, in the bar, is a stone inscribed in Latin and the date 1722

Babylon Zoo were a British rock band of the mid-1990s from Wolverhampton, England, fronted by Jas Mann. They were best known for the song 'Spaceman', which on its release on 21 January 1996, went straight to #1 on the UK Singles Chart, selling 418,000 copies in the first week of release.
This is from an album entitled The Boy with the X-Ray Eyes. It was released in 1996, and included new-age tracks such as 'Is Your Soul for Sale?' and 'I'm Cracking Up I Need a Pill'. It debuted at no 6 on the UK Albums Chart, and reached the Top 20 in 17 countries, including Australia, New Zealand and Canada

Model 500 &
Infiniti were names used by Juan Atkins. He is widely credited as the originator of techno music, specifically Detroit techno along with Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. The three, sometimes called the Belleville Three, attended high school together in Belleville, Michigan, near Detroit.
At age sixteen, Atkins heard electronic music for the first time, which would prove to be a life-changing experience. In late-1990s interviews, he recalls the sound of synthesizers as being like 'UFOs landing.' He soon had his first synthesizer and abandoned playing funk bass.
\u201c When I first heard synthesizers dropped on records it was great\u2026 like UFOs landing on records, so I got one.
\u2026It wasn\u2019t any one particular group that turned me on to synthesizers, but 'Flashlight' (Parliament's number one R &
B hit from early 1978) was the first record I heard where maybe 75 percent of the production was electronic.'
The first publicized UFO sightings were usually referred to using the term mystery airships, which were commonly seen and described as such during the latter part of the 19th century and the early 20th.
The term foo fighters was used by American fighter pilots during World War II to refer to UFOs.
The first widely publicized U.S. sighting, reported by private pilot Kenneth Arnold in June 1947, gave rise to the popular terms 'flying saucer' and 'flying disc', of which the former is still sometimes used, even though Arnold said the most of the objects he saw were not totally circular and one was crescent-shaped (see Kenneth Arnold UFO sighting for details). In addition, the infamous Roswell UFO Incident occurred at about the same time, which only served to further fuel public interest in the topic.
The term 'UFO' was first suggested in 1952 by Cpt. Edward J. Ruppelt, who headed Project Blue Book, then the USAF's official investigation of UFOs. Ruppelt felt that 'flying saucer' did not reflect the diversity of the sightings. He suggested that UFO should be pronounced as a word \u2013 you-foe. However it is now usually pronounced by forming each letter: U.F.O. His term was quickly adopted by the United States Air Force, which also briefly used 'UFOB'. The Air Force initially defined UFOs as those objects that remain unidentified after scrutiny by expert investigators, though today the term UFO is often used for any unexplained sighting regardless of whether it has been investigated.
Because the term UFO is ambiguous \u2013 referring either to any unidentified sighting, or in popular usage to alien spacecraft \u2013 and the public and media ridicule sometimes associated with the topic, some investigators now prefer to use other terms such as unidentified aerial phenomenon (or UAP).
For trivia buffs, the equivalent acronym for UFO in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian is OVNI (Objeto Volador No Identificado, Objeto Voador N\u00e3o Identificado, Objet volant non identifi\u00e9 or Oggetto Volante Non Identificato).

Forming a soundtrack to much of my 1980's, 'The The' are an English musical and multimedia group that have been active in various forms since 1979, with singer/songwriter Matt Johnson being the only constant band member.
In 1993, the five-piece line-up issued the album Dusk containing this single. It debuted at no 2 in the UK and spun off three Top 40 singles in the UK, led by 'Dogs of Lust'. A world tour followed, the Lonely Planet tour, at which point the band's line-up was reshuffled
Johnny Marr and James Eller left, and were replaced by Atlanta based guitarist Keith Joyner and New York bassist Jared Nickerson, respectively.
Also added was Boston harmonica player Jim Fitting, who auditioned in New York in early 1993. The version of their hit 'This Is The Day' featuring Jim Fitting was often dubbed 'That Was The Day'. Palmer bowed out partway through the tour and was replaced by ex Stabbing Westward drummer Andy Kubiszewski.
A full length film, directed by long time collaborator Tim Pope, was made for this album. From Dusk Til Dawn was shot in New Orleans and New York and along with Johnson and Johnny Marr also featured various characters from the New York underground scene such as sexologist Annie Sprinkle, writer and raconteur Quentin Crisp, Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa, and porn star Rick Savage amongst many other carnival characters.
