W. Woolworth Company. As of 2022 the chain has more than 570 stores in Germany and 3 in Poland they are aiming to have over 1,000 in the medium term and over 5,000 across Europe in the long term.
It was not part of the closure scheme that affected the British Woolworths Group stores, nor is it related to the Australian-based Woolworths Group retail group.
On the 11th of April 2009, Woolworth GmbH board of directors voted to declare insolvency as the chain was squeezed between discounters and more specialist retailers. 23 branches were taken over by the NKD store chain. By the end of August the Federal Cartel Office approved the acquisition of 71 Woolworth stores by the Schlecker retail chain. In September Woolworth started operating as 162 store chain down from 310. During the insolvency the Austrian branches were separated from the German chain in October and bought by bluO an Austrian financial investor, 9 of the 12 stores were later rebranded to Adler and the others closed.
In 2010 Woolworth was sold to HH Holding a subsidiary of the Tengelmann Group (which owns KiK and OBI) and by July 1 the headquarters had moved from Frankfurt to Unna. By the end of 2011 the store number had risen to over 200.
In February 2016 the chain opened its 300th branch in Dortmund city centre

Deutsche Lufthansa AG commonly shortened to Lufthansa, serves as the flag carrier of Germany. When combined with its subsidiaries, it stands as the second-largest airline in Europe in terms of passengers carried, after the ultra low-cost carrier Ryanair. In 2010, BrewDog opened their first bar, in nearby Aberdeen. At the end of 2018, the company operates 50 bars in the United Kingdom and 24 international bars.
In 2011, BrewDog was described as one of the prime movers behind the campaign which changed the law in 2011 to allow new beer measures in Britain.
2011 also saw the company offered crowdfunding shares totalling ?2 million, the equivalent of 8% of the capital of the company. In 2008, BrewDog were challenged by UK drinks industry watchdog the Portman Group. Portman had claimed BrewDog to be in breach of their Code of Practice for the labeling of the Dead Pony IPA. BrewDog denied these allegations and countered that Portman was impeding the development of smaller brewing companies. In December 2008, after an 8-month long dispute and a preliminary adjudication which had ruled against the company, BrewDog were cleared of all breaches of the Code of Practice and were permitted to continue marketing their brands without making any changes to the packaging.

The Deutsche Mark or German mark was the official currency of West Germany (1948\u20131990) and Germany (1990\u20132002) until the adoption of the euro in 2002. The old East Germany had their own 'East German Mark' or Ostmark or Mark der DDR.
It was first issued under Allied occupation in 1948 replacing the Reichsmark, and served as the Federal Republic of Germany's official currency from its founding the following year until 1999, when the Mark was replaced by the euro
its coins and banknotes remained in circulation, defined in terms of euros, until the introduction of euro notes and coins in early 2002.
The Deutsche Mark ceased to be legal tender immediately upon the introduction of the euro\u2014in contrast to the other Eurozone nations, where the euro and legacy currency circulated side by side for up to two months. DM coins and banknotes continued to be accepted as valid forms of payment in Germany until 28 February 2002.
The Deutsche Bundesbank has guaranteed that all German mark in cash form may be changed into euros indefinitely, and one may do so at any branch of the Bundesbank in Germany. Banknotes can even be sent to the bank by mail.
Unfortunately in recent months the German nation has been bailing a big chunk of Europe's eurozone out. Much to the iritation of the German nation I suspect.
Germany's top court has ruled that aid for Greece and rescue packages for other eurozone countries was legal but said parliament must have greater say in any future bailout deals.
The Constitutional Court, based in Karlsruhe, western Germany, was responding to a challenge brought by six leading German Eurosceptics.
The five academics and one politician argued that the bailouts violated property rights and broke the 'no bailout' clause in the European Union's treaty.
In a landmark ruling, eagerly anticipated by jittery financial markets, the court said all 'large-scale' future aid packages must be approved by the parliament's budget committee.
Makes me glad Britain stayed with the pound sterling.
