Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2X9BPB8 - A modified AC Cobra sports car pictured during location filming for an Apple TV+ production near the Empire Theatre on Lime Street in Liverpool city centre, England, in May 2024. The vehicle has been adapted for filming purposes, with visible structural changes and camera-friendly modifications, and is seen driving over cobbled streets while crew members, barriers, and onlookers surround the set.
The scene forms part of filming for Fountain of Youth, an Apple Original Films production directed by Guy Ritchie and starring John Krasinski and Natalie Portman. Liverpool's Lime Street area, with landmarks such as the Empire Theatre, is frequently used by international film and television productions due to its adaptable architecture and central location.
Temporary fencing, crew vehicles, and pedestrians in the background illustrate the controlled environment of an active film shoot in a busy urban setting. The presence of a classic British sports car, altered for cinematic use, highlights the blend of heritage vehicles and modern filmmaking techniques.
This image is suitable for editorial use illustrating film and television production in the UK, Apple TV+ projects, behind-the-scenes filmmaking, classic cars adapted for screen use, Liverpool as a filming location, and the impact of major productions on city-centre streets.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2X9BPAR - A historic Modern Pharmacy display photographed inside Dr Duncan's public house at 9?11 St John's Lane in Liverpool city centre, England. The image shows an ornate wooden cabinet with carved detailing, topped with the words Modern Pharmacy, and containing a framed portrait of a nineteenth-century gentleman, evoking the era of Victorian medicine and apothecaries.
Dr Duncan's is a well-known Liverpool pub housed in a former insurance building close to St John's Gardens and Lime Street. The interior features a range of period displays and historical references, reflecting the pub's Victorian origins and the city's wider social and medical history.
Pharmacy-themed displays such as this recall a time when medicine was dispensed by local chemists and apothecaries, often operating from richly decorated interiors designed to convey trust and authority. Their presence within a modern pub setting highlights the layered reuse of historic buildings in Liverpool's city centre.
This image is suitable for editorial use illustrating Victorian interiors, pharmacy and medical history, British pub heritage, adaptive reuse of historic spaces, Liverpool cultural history, and period decorative design.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RX180B - This image shows the iconic three-pointed star badge of Mercedes-Benz mounted on the bonnet of a car. The polished chrome emblem stands upright against the reflective surface of the vehicle's bodywork, highlighting the precision engineering and design associated with one of the world's most recognisable luxury automotive brands. The close-up composition emphasises the sculptural quality of the badge and its role as a symbol of prestige.
The Mercedes-Benz star represents the company's historic ambition to dominate land, sea, and air transport, a concept dating back to the early twentieth century. Bonnet-mounted badges such as this were once a common feature of luxury and executive cars, serving as both a brand identifier and a statement of status. While many modern vehicles now use flat grille-mounted logos, the standing bonnet emblem remains closely associated with classic and high-end Mercedes models.
The image conveys themes of luxury, craftsmanship, automotive heritage, and brand identity. It is suitable for editorial and commercial use relating to premium vehicles, automotive design, motoring culture, German engineering, transport branding, and concepts of quality, success, and prestige.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RGJW6W - A bronze public sculpture titled Alice Through the Looking Glass by artist Jeanne Argent, depicting the literary character Alice reaching forward in a moment of transition and discovery. The figure is presented emerging through a curved, glass-like frame, referencing Lewis Carroll's classic Victorian children's novel Through the Looking-Glass, part of the wider Alice in Wonderland stories. The expressive pose and stylised form emphasise imagination, curiosity, and the crossing of boundaries between reality and fantasy.
The sculpture is installed outdoors in a landscaped garden setting in Guildford, Surrey, surrounded by greenery and hedging, which enhances the dreamlike quality of the work. Jeanne Argent is known for figurative sculpture that draws on myth, narrative, and human emotion, and this piece reflects the enduring cultural influence of Lewis Carroll's writing on British art and public imagination.
Photographed in daylight during the growing season, the image shows the patinated bronze surface against lush foliage, making it suitable for editorial and commercial uses relating to public art, British sculpture, literary heritage, children's literature, education, tourism, and cultural landmarks in southern England.
Location: Guildford Castle Grounds, Guildford, Surrey, England, GU1 3SX.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JNHKC8 - The Jaguar XK140 is a sports car manufactured by Jaguar between 1954 and 1957 as the successor to the XK120. Upgrades included more interior space, improved brakes, rack and pinion steering, increased suspension travel, and telescopic shock absorbers instead of the older lever arm design
The XK140 was introduced in late 1954 and sold as a 1955 model. Exterior changes that distinguished it from the XK120 included more substantial front and rear bumpers with overriders, and flashing turn signals (operated by a switch on the dash) above the front bumper.
Boot emblem
The grille remained the same size but became a one-piece cast unit with fewer, and broader, vertical bars. The Jaguar badge was incorporated into the grille surround. A chrome trim strip ran along the centre of the bonnet (hood) and boot (trunk) lid. An emblem on the boot lid contained the words Winner Le Mans 1951?3.
The interior was made more comfortable for taller drivers by moving the engine, firewall and dash forward to give 3 inches (76 mm) more legroom. Two 6-volt batteries, one in each front wing were fitted to the Fixed Head Coupe, but Drop Heads and the Open Two Seater had a single 12-volt battery installed in the front wing on the passenger side.
The XK140 was powered by the William Heynes designed 3.4 litre Jaguar XK double overhead camshaft inline-6 engine, with the Special Equipment modifications from the XK120, which raised the specified power by 10 bhp to 190 bhp (142 kW) gross at 5500 rpm, as standard. The optional C-Type cylinder head carried over from the XK120 catalogue, and produced 210 bhp (157 kW) gross at 5750 rpm.
When fitted with the C-type head, 2-inch sand-cast H8 carburettors, heavier torsion bars and twin exhaust pipes, the car was designated XK140 SE in the UK and XK140 MC in North America.
In 1956 the XK140 became the first Jaguar sports car to be offered with automatic transmission. As with the XK120, wire wheels and dual exhausts were options, with most XK140s impo

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JN1FW8 - Albion, translated to present-day terms, means ?white' and is often associated with all things English. The present day ambience of the Albion's interior reflects this translation and has firm connections with the Great War going far beyond the modern ?concept' pub of today.
Mike Mercer has run the Albion Inn for over 37 years and has created and captured the essence of the Great War 1914-18 in this last remaining classic Victorian corner street pub within the City Walls of Chester.
Albion Street, and the adjoining Volunteer Street both lead to the former Drill Hall, which was a recruiting centre during the First World War.
Many a young lad would have spent his King's Shilling in the bar of the Albion before going to face the horrors of the Western Front.
The Albion Inn dates from the late 1880's and Mike and Christina have managed to retain the traditional three room layout covering Vault, Snug and Lounge, containing Great War artefacts and pictures, which give a distinct period feel, together with posters and enamelled advertising signs.
At the same time, The Albion provides high standards of food, drink and accommodation, worthy of its entry in many National and International Guides and Publications.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JPDJJX - The Three Choirs Festival is a music festival held annually at the end of July, rotating among the cathedrals of the Three Counties (Hereford, Gloucester and Worcester) and originally featuring their three choirs, which remain central to the week-long programme. The large-scale choral repertoire is now performed by the Festival Chorus, but the festival also features other major ensembles and international soloists. The 2011 festival took place in Worcester from 6 to 13 August. The 2012 festival in Hereford took place earlier than usual, from 21 to 28 July, to avoid clashing with the 2012 Summer Olympics. The event is now established in the last week of July. The 300th anniversary of the original Three Choirs Festival was celebrated during the 2015 festival, which took place from 25 July to 1 August in Hereford (the landmark 300th meeting of the Three Choirs does not fall until after 2027 due to there being no Three Choirs Festivals for the duration of both World War I and World War II and COVID-19. The 2023 Festival will take place in Gloucester from 22 to 29 July.
The festival is closely identified with the musical careers of British composers Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams. The organists of the three cathedrals (who act as artistic director and festival conductor when it is their cathedral's turn to host the festival) are Geraint Bowen (Hereford), Adrian Partington (Gloucester) and Samuel Hudson (Worcester).

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K3XN98 - The Garrard Engineering and Manufacturing Company of Swindon, Wiltshire, was a British company that was famous for producing high-quality gramophone turntables. It was formed by the jewellers Garrard & Co in 1915. The company was sold to Plessey, an electronics conglomerate, in 1960. During the period 1976-1978, Garrard developed demonstrators of the novel video disc technology. Although the team recognised the future potential of this data storage technology, Plessey chose not to invest. After several years in decline, Garrard was sold by Plessey to Gradiente Electronics of Brazil in 1979 and series production was moved to Brazil (Manaus). The remaining Garrard research and development operation in Swindon was reduced to a skeleton operation until completely shut down in 1992. Then, Gradiente licensed the Garrard name to Terence O'Sullivan, who operated as Loricraft Audio, in 1997.
Between 1992 and 1997, the Garrard brand name was licensed to other companies in the US, which imported electronic items built by different, unrelated Far Eastern manufacturers. These included Garrard branded cassette decks, CD players, stereo receivers, portable radio/cassette players, portable Walkman type cassette players, serial-port printer cables, universal TV/audio remote controls, and other miscellany, including turntables that had no connection with any original Garrard design.
In 2018, Cadence Audio SA, who also own the British turntable and tonearm manufacturer SME Limited, took ownership of the Garrard brand and registered trademarks when they purchased Loricraft Audio Ltd. The business was restructured to run under the name of Garrard Turntables UK Ltd.

This can be released for sale to the public in a variety of formats. In most cases, a single is a song that is released separately from an album, although it usually also appears on an album. Typically, these are the songs from albums that are released separately for promotional uses such as digital download or commercial radio airplay and are expected to be the most popular. In other cases a recording released as a single may not appear on an album

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy PCTA15 - The equestrian Wellington Statue is a statue of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, located on Royal Exchange Square in Glasgow, Scotland. It is located outside the Gallery of Modern Art near the end of Ingram Street. The statue was sculpted by Italian artist Carlo Marochetti and erected in 1844. Capping the statue with a traffic cone has become a traditional practice in the city, claimed to represent the humour of the local population and believed to date back to the first half of the 1980s, if not before. The statue is a Category-A listed monument, and is one of Glasgow's most iconic landmarks. Due to minor damage and the potential for injury that the placing of cones involves, the practice has been discouraged by Glasgow City Council and Strathclyde Police. In 2011 the Lonely Planet guide included the statue in its list of the top 10 most bizarre monuments on Earth.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy P72EMC - The Lady Lever Art Gallery is a museum founded and built by the industrialist and philanthropist William Lever, 1st Viscount Leverhulme and opened in 1922. The Lady Lever Art Gallery is set in the garden village of Port Sunlight, on the Wirral and one of the National Museums Liverpool.
The museum is a significant surviving example of late Victorian and Edwardian taste. It houses major collections of fine and decorative art that are an expression of Lord Leverhulme's personal taste and collecting interests. The collection is strong in British 19th-century painting and sculpture, spilling over to include late 18th-century and early 20th works. There are important collections of English furniture, Wedgwood, especially jasperware, and Chinese ceramics, and smaller groups of other types of objects, such as Ancient Greek vases and Roman sculpture. The majority of objects were part of the original donation, but the collection has continued to expand at a modest rate. The museum displays mostly mixed paintings, sculpture and furniture together, and there are five Period Rooms recreating typical period interiors from large houses.
The Building was commissioned in 1913 from architects William and Segar Owen, the Lady Lever Art Gallery was built in the Beaux-Arts style. The building was opened in 1922 by Princess Beatrice, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria.
In 2015 part of the museum was closed for building works, with little of the ceramics collections on display, but most of the other collections. A touring exhibition visited museums in Japan and elsewhere. The redeveloped South End galleries were restored to their original architecture style as part of a ?2.8 million restoration project in 2016. The work included opening up original doorways to increase the circulation of visitors, improving the lighting and restoring some of the original vaulted ceilings

Typically the seated figure is a heavy-set, jovial man holding a mug of beer in one hand and a pipe of tobacco in the other and wearing 18th century attire: a long coat and a tricorn hat. The tricorn hat forms a pouring spout, often with a removable lid, and a handle is attached at the rear. Jugs depicting just the head and shoulders of a figure are also referred to as Toby Jugs, although these should strictly be called Character Jugs

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F7DC8D - Sugar is the generalized name for sweet, short-chain, soluble carbohydrates, many of which are used in food. They are carbohydrates, composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. There are various types of sugar derived from different sources.
Simple sugars are called monosaccharides and include glucose (also known as dextrose), fructose and galactose. The table or granulated sugar most customarily used as food is sucrose, a disaccharide. (In the body, sucrose hydrolyses into fructose and glucose.) Other disaccharides include maltose and lactose. Longer chains of sugars are called oligosaccharides.
Chemically-different substances may also have a sweet taste, but are not classified as sugars. Some are used as lower-calorie food substitutes for sugar described as artificial sweeteners.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy ECW51T - The Church of England parish church of Saint Mary dates from at least 1074. The original church was demolished and completely rebuilt, but both the chancel and the bell tower of the present building contain small amounts of re-used Norman stonework.
The present Early English Gothic chancel was built late in the 12th or early in the 13th century. The tower has a saddleback roof and may have been built in the 13th or 14th century. The present nave was built in 1793 and has a west gallery that was added in 1834.
St. Mary's is now part of the Cherwell Valley Benefice along with five other ecclesiastical parishes: Fritwell, Lower Heyford, Somerton, Souldern and Upper Heyford.
Here is shown, middle window on south side of nave
built in 1792, blocked for many years and then restored with a new stained glass window early in the 21st century.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F0XDWE - The Brandenburg Gate (German: Brandenburger Tor) is an 18th-century neoclassical triumphal arch in Berlin, and one of the best-known landmarks of Germany. It is built on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to the town of Brandenburg an der Havel.
It is located in the western part of the city centre of Berlin, at the junction of Unter den Linden and Ebertstra??e, immediately west of the Pariser Platz. One block to the north stands the Reichstag building. The gate is the monumental entry to Unter den Linden, the renowned boulevard of linden trees, which formerly led directly to the city palace of the Prussian monarchs.
It was commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia as a sign of peace and built by Carl Gotthard Langhans from 1788 to 1791. Having suffered considerable damage in World War II, the Brandenburg Gate was fully restored from 2000 to 2002 by the Stiftung Denkmalschutz Berlin (Berlin Monument Conservation Foundation).
During the post-war Partition of Germany, the gate was isolated and inaccessible immediately next to the Berlin Wall, and the area around the gate was featured most prominently in the media coverage of the tearing down of the wall in 1989.
Throughout its existence, the Brandenburg Gate was often a site for major historical events and is today considered a symbol of the tumultuous history of Europe and Germany, but also of European unity and peace.

Bentley Motors Limited is a British manufacturer of automobiles founded on my birthday, 18th January 1919 by Walter Owen Bentley (known as W.O. Bentley or just 'W.O.').
Bentley had been previously known for his range of rotary aero-engines in World War I, the most famous being the Bentley BR1 as used in later versions of the Sopwith Camel. Since 1998, the company has been owned by the Volkswagen Group of Germany and is located in Crewe, south Cheshire.
Before World War I, W.O. Bentley had been in partnership with his brother H.M. Bentley selling French DFP cars, but he had always wanted to design and build his own range of cars bearing his name. In August 1919, Bentley Motors Ltd. was registered, and a chassis with dummy engine was exhibited at the London Motor Show in October of that year.
It was on a visit to the DFP factory in 1913 that W.O. noticed an aluminium paperweight, and had the inspired idea of using the lightweight metal instead of cast iron to make engine pistons. The first Bentley aluminium pistons went into service in aero engines for the Sopwith Camel during the Great War.
A group of wealthy British motorists known as the 'Bentley Boys' (Woolf Barnato, Sir Henry Birkin, steeplechaser George Duller, aviator Glen Kidston, automotive journalist S.C.H. 'Sammy' Davis, and Dr. Dudley Benjafield among them) kept the marque's reputation for high performance alive. Thanks to the dedication to serious racing of this group, the company, located at Cricklewood, north London, was noted for its four consecutive victories at the 24 hours of Le Mans from 1927 to 1930. Their greatest competitor at the time, Bugatti—whose lightweight, elegant, but fragile creations contrasted with the Bentley's rugged reliability and durability—referred to them as 'the world's fastest lorries'.
The one pictured here looks like a 1929 model, possibly 3-6 litre engine.

Although the main design feature remained the same – a central ellipse for the portrait, an ornamental frame, value tablet at the base and a crown at the top – a three quarter portrait was used for the first time. Subsequent designs reverted to the standard profile however.
Seeing a franked post card like this always make me consider who might have posted it, who they posted it to (and why they were in Stockport). A mystery from around 1912 we will never solve.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy CEMX2M - Amanita muscaria, commonly known as the fly agaric (play /?????rk/) or fly amanita (play /????m???nat?/), is a poisonous and psychoactive basidiomycete fungus, one of many in the genus Amanita. Native throughout the temperate and boreal regions of the Northern Hemisphere, Amanita muscaria has been unintentionally introduced to many countries in the southern hemisphere, generally as a symbiont with pine plantations, and is now a true cosmopolitan species. It associates with various deciduous and coniferous trees. The quintessential toadstool, it is a large white-gilled, white-spotted, usually deep red mushroom, one of the most recognizable and widely encountered in popular culture. Several subspecies, with differing cap colour, have been recognised to date, including the brown regalis (considered a separate species), the yellow-orange flavivolvata, guessowii, and formosa, and the pinkish persicina. Genetic studies published in 2006 and 2008 show several sharply delineated clades which may represent separate species.
Although it is generally considered poisonous, deaths from its consumption are extremely rare, and it is eaten as a food in parts of Europe, Asia, and North America after parboiling. Amanita muscaria is now primarily famed for its hallucinogenic properties, with its main psychoactive constituent being the compound muscimol. It was used as an intoxicant and entheogen by the peoples of Siberia and has a religious significance in these cultures. There has been much speculation on traditional use of this mushroom as an intoxicant in places other than Siberia
however, such traditions are far less well documented. The American banker and amateur ethnomycologist R. Gordon Wasson proposed that the fly agaric was in fact the soma of the ancient Rig Veda texts of India
since its introduction in 1968 this theory has gained both followers and detractors in anthropological literature

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy CEYA67 - Blue Plymouth American Classic PUD 103F car (Automobile)
Plymouth was a marque of automobiles based in the United States, produced by the Chrysler Corporation and its successor DaimlerChrysler. Production was discontinued on June 29, 2001 in the United States.
For much of its life, Plymouth was one of the top-selling American automobile brands
it together with Chevrolet and Ford were commonly referred to as the low-priced three marques in the American market. Plymouth almost surpassed Ford in 1940 and 1941 as the second most popular make of automobiles in the U.S. Through 1956, Plymouth vehicles were known for their durability, affordability, and engineering.
In 1957, Virgil Exner's new Forward Look design theme, advertised by Plymouth with the tagline Suddenly, it's 1960, produced cars with much more advanced styling than Chevrolet or Ford. 1957 total production soared to 726,009, about 200,000 more than 1956, and the largest output yet for Plymouth. However, the 1957?1958 Forward Look models suffered from poor materials, spotty build quality and inadequate corrosion protection
they were rust-prone and greatly damaged Chrysler's reputation.
In 1954 Chrysler started its decade long unsuccessful attempt to develop and market a viable car powered by turbine engine when it installed an experimental turbine they had developed specifically for vehicles in a Plymouth.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2X9BPBA - A classic AC Cobra sports car, registration number ALQ 227A, pictured during location filming for an Apple TV+ production on Mill Lane in Liverpool city centre, England, in May 2024. The blue roadster with white racing stripes is seen navigating a narrow cobbled street while film crew members and onlookers watch nearby.
The vehicle was used as part of filming for Fountain of Youth, an Apple Original Films production directed by Guy Ritchie and starring John Krasinski and Natalie Portman. Liverpool has become a popular filming location for international film and television productions, with its historic architecture and adaptable city streets frequently standing in for locations worldwide.
The presence of spectators, temporary traffic control, and production staff highlights the disruption and excitement that accompanies major film shoots in urban environments. The AC Cobra, an iconic British sports car first produced in the 1960s, adds a strong visual element to the scene, combining automotive heritage with contemporary film production.
This image is suitable for editorial use illustrating film and television production in the UK, Apple TV+ projects, classic cars in modern settings, Liverpool as a filming location, behind-the-scenes entertainment photography, and the use of historic vehicles in contemporary cinema.

Each row ends with a pair of green and red lights which flash to indicate that flight is boarding. They indicate each flight's destination, its flight number and carrier, and its departure gate and time.
Platform split-flap displays are used across the Deutsche Bahn network, though mostly being replaced by liquid crystal displays.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy RK9X6P - The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is a full-sized luxury car produced by British automaker Rolls-Royce in various forms from 1965 to 1980. It was the first of the marque to use unitary body and chassis construction.
The Silver Shadow was produced from 1965 to 1976, and the Silver Shadow II from 1977 to 1980. To date, the combined model run of 30,057 units manufactured is the largest production volume of any Rolls-Royce model
A Bentley-badged version, the T-series, was produced from 1965 through 1980 in 2,336 examples.
The Silver Shadow was originally intended to be called Rolls-Royce Silver Mist, but was replaced with Silver Shadow at the last minute due to Mist meaning manure or crap in German. It was designed with several modernisations in response to concerns that the company was falling behind in automotive innovation, most notably in its unitary construction.
Other new features included disc brakes replacing drums, and independent rear suspension instead of the outdated live rear axle design of previous Rolls-Royce models.
The standard wheelbase Silver Shadow measured 203.5 inches (5,170 mm), 4,700 lb (2,100 kg) and had a book price of ?6,557 in the first year of production.
The Shadow featured a 172 hp (128 kW) 6.2 L V8 from 1965 to 1969, and a 189 hp (141 kW) 6.75 L V8 from 1970 to 1980. Left-hand-drive models were coupled to the recently introduced Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic gearbox sourced from General Motors (GM). Pre-1970, right-hand-drive (RHD) models used a highly modified, aluminum-cased version of the original cast-iron 4-speed Hydra-Matic gearbox that had been built in Crewe under license from GM since 1953. From 1968, export RHD cars gained the Turbo-Hydramatic 400, and by 1970, the 4-speed unit had been completely phased out even in the home market
