Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EENJFJ - Saturday afternoon session at Grappenhall Beer Festival 2026, held at the Bellhouse and Grappenhall Youth and Community Association in Warrington, Cheshire, with visitors seated outside in the beer garden during a May community event. The image shows drinkers and festival-goers gathered around tables beside the brick community building, with umbrellas, marquees, beer festival signs and a relaxed village atmosphere. The 2026 festival was promoted as taking place on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 May, bringing together real ales, ciders, food, live music and local fundraising at Grappenhall Community Centre. This documentary image is useful for editorial and commercial features about British beer festivals, real ale culture, CAMRA-style drinking traditions, community pubs and clubs, village events, social gatherings, weekend leisure and outdoor hospitality. The scene appears to have been photographed in daylight under mixed spring weather, with cloudy skies, bright intervals and people dressed for a cool but pleasant May afternoon. The photograph has strong local interest for Grappenhall, Warrington, Cheshire and the North West of England, while also working more broadly for stories about beer gardens, community centres, volunteer-run events, charity fundraising, independent brewing, cask ale, cider, local festivals and social life. The Bellhouse is a charity-run hub on Bellhouse Lane, and the festival setting reflects the role of community venues in bringing residents together for conversation, music, food and drink. The image can also illustrate responsible social drinking, local tourism, village identity, weekend recreation, outdoor seating, hospitality trade resilience and the continuing popularity of beer festivals beyond large city centres. Details such as patio tables, plastic glasses, garden furniture, festival signage, marquees and mixed-age groups help place the scene clearly as a real local event rather than a staged lifestyle image.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EGWM98 - Busy indoor bar area at Grappenhall Beer Festival, held at The Bellhouse, home of Grappenhall Youth and Community Association in Grappenhall, Warrington, Cheshire. The image shows a crowded community beer festival interior with drinkers gathered around a temporary bar, casks and handpulls lined up on the right, beer labels visible above the pumps, people holding pint glasses, a beer programme on a table and the warm social atmosphere of a village real ale event. The festival is useful for editorial coverage of British beer culture, real ale, cask ale, local breweries, community fundraising, village events, hospitality, weekend leisure, social drinking, volunteers, beer tasting and the continuing appeal of traditional beer festivals in North West England. The Bellhouse describes itself as a charity-run community hub in the heart of Grappenhall, offering events, room hire, clubs and social spaces, and its events page lists Grappenhall Beer Festival as an annual highlight featuring local and guest ales, food and live entertainment. Ticketing information for 2026 described Grappenhall Beer Festival as Real Ale, Ciders and Live Music, presented by Grappenhall Youth & Community Association, while local coverage said the 2026 event would take place on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 May at Grappenhall Community Centre. The photograph captures the practical working side of the festival, with a busy queue at the bar, beer pumps, casks, volunteers and customers choosing drinks rather than a staged publicity view. Visible details such as the wooden floor, festival signage, beer tokens or programme, pint glasses, casual clothing and crowded bar line make it a strong documentary image for stories about community venues, local fundraising, beer festivals, the real ale movement, pub culture outside pubs, village social life and the wider role of volunteer-run events in keeping community facilities active. The indoor setting suggests a mild spring evening or weekend session

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3ECEEBB - Photograph of a No & Low Alcohol drinks section in a Tesco supermarket aisle, showing shelves stocked with alcohol-free and low-alcohol alternatives to beer, lager, cider, wine and spirits. Visible products include Lucky Saint alcohol-free beer, Infinite Session, no and low beer multipacks, canned drinks, wine-style alternatives and spirit-style bottles, with price labels and Clubcard shelf edge promotions below. The image is useful for editorial themes around changing drinking habits, healthier lifestyles, Dry January, Sober October, mindful drinking, alcohol moderation, supermarket retail and the growing market for low and no alcohol drinks.
The sign above the shelving clearly reads No & Low Alcohol, making the photograph relevant for searches about alcohol-free drinks ranges, no alcohol beer, non-alcoholic wine, low alcohol cider, alcohol-free spirits and supermarket merchandising. It also works for stories about the cost of healthier choices, as several shelf prices are visible and many premium low and no alcohol products can appear expensive compared with standard soft drinks or mainstream beers. The image can illustrate pricing, health, wellbeing, alcohol harm reduction, public health messaging and how retailers are normalising alternatives for customers who want to cut down without avoiding social drinking rituals.
The UK NHS advises adults who drink alcohol not to regularly exceed 14 units a week and to spread drinking over three or more days, while Tesco advertises a dedicated range of low and no alcohol beer, wine, spirits, mixers and other drinks. This aisle display therefore has strong editorial value for features on retail trends, alcohol guidance, moderation, consumer behaviour, supermarket strategy, product innovation, health-conscious shopping, alcohol-free lager, zero alcohol beer, lower calorie lifestyles and the cultural shift towards more choice for drivers, pregnant customers, younger adults and anyone reducing alcohol intake.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E8E1H4 - Editorial stock photograph showing an Asda supermarket No and Low Alcohol drinks range displayed beneath a large overhead aisle sign, with shelves stocked with alcohol-free and low-alcohol beers, ciders, wines, sparkling drinks, pre-mixed style cans and spirit alternatives. The image captures a recognisable UK retail scene, showing the expanding supermarket market for reduced alcohol products, sober curious lifestyles, mindful drinking, designated drivers, health-conscious shoppers and customers looking for alternatives to full-strength alcoholic drinks.
The display is useful for stories about changing British drinking habits, alcohol moderation, supermarket retail trends, public health, Dry January, low alcohol beer, alcohol-free gin style drinks, low and no wine, cider alternatives, adult soft drinks, pricing, promotions and the growing commercial value of no and low alcohol ranges. The visible shelf-edge prices, branded bottles, cans and wine-style packaging help show how these products are now merchandised as a mainstream category rather than a small niche. The overhead No and Low Alcohol sign gives the photograph strong editorial clarity, making the subject readable even at thumbnail size.
This image can support articles about alcohol duty, cost of living pressures, younger consumers drinking less, responsible drinking campaigns, supermarket category management, health policy, alcohol substitution, wellness retail, product innovation and the blurring of boundaries between alcohol aisles and adult non-alcoholic drinks. It also suits features on UK grocery chains, Asda store layouts, consumer choice, changing social habits and the wider cultural shift towards moderation. The bright supermarket lighting, metal shelving, price tickets and densely packed products create an authentic documentary view of everyday shopping, useful for newspapers, magazines, blogs, market research, retail reports and public health commentary

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2T19PG5 - Warrington Oktoberfest is back, and it will be held once again at Warrington's Parr Hall later this year. More info at www.warringtonoktoberfest.org.uk
The event is organised by Rotary Warrington, with all profits from the festival going to good causes.
A must-visit for beer aficionados, the festival will include dozens of speciality brews, imported ales, and drinks of varying strengths and tastes.
There will also be a gin and fizz bar, a cider bar, and a driver's bar available during the event, too.
Warrington Oktoberfest will be held at Parr Hall between October 12-14.
There will be traditional Oktoberfest-style food available throughout the event, which is set to be supplied by Warrington's 'best for burgers 2023' Cafe at the End of the Universe.
Speaking to the Warrington Guardian, one of the event's organisers - Samantha Bridger - said that the whole group has been 'blown away' by the support provided by sponsors of the event.
She said: All our sponsors are amazing, and they help with everything from the set up, to equipment, money, and even the racking used for beer kegs.
In terms of ticket costs, Samantha said: We are delighted to say that tickets are £10, which we think is phenomenally cheap, and we're selling them in advance - which includes a small booking fee.
Tickets will be available on the door, too, if we have any left.
There will be live music performed across the event, with the following bands playing across the festival:
The Pink Pumps
Fairchild Robinson
The Red River Band
It has also been announced that drinks can be purchased via a token system.
For any cask ale that is marked at less than five per cent alcohol content, it costs one green token per half pint.
Ales marked as stronger than five per cent cost one yellow token per half pint.
No-alcohol drinks, plus prosecco and gins are marked at costing one yellow token.
For £10, attendees will receive five green tokens, or 11 tokens for £20.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PG92W3 - Interior detail showing the ceiling inside The Star Inn on Church Street in Godalming, Surrey, covered with dozens of historic real ale pump clips and beer badges collected from breweries across Britain and beyond. The photograph records a colourful, densely packed display of cask ale branding, brewery artwork, local beer names, pump clip typography and pub memorabilia above the bar area of a traditional English public house. The warm indoor lighting, timber beams and crowded ceiling create strong pub character.
The Star is a long-established Godalming pub with a strong reputation for real ale, cider and perry. The pub's own history notes a tavern on the site from 1832, with the present building retaining older character, while CAMRA describes The Star as a beerhouse from soon after 1830, with parts of the building older still. CAMRA also records the pub as offering up to 14 cask ales at busy times, alongside ciders and perries, and notes that hundreds of pub clips hang between the dark oak beams. This makes the image useful for illustrating beer collecting, brewery heritage, CAMRA culture, cask ale traditions, independent pubs and local drinking places.
Pump clips are an important part of British real ale culture because they identify the beer, brewery, strength, style and the humour or visual identity behind each brew. A ceiling full of them becomes a documentary archive of changing breweries, seasonal ales, regional brewing, pub festivals and the social networks around beer enthusiasts. The image also reflects wider themes including hospitality, leisure, pub tourism, community, alcohol retail, small breweries, traditional interiors and the preservation of characterful public houses in market towns. The visible ceiling display turns an everyday pub interior into a textured record of Britain's brewing scene, with bright labels and badges adding colour and commercial visual interest for editorial uses linked to beer, pubs, tourism and social life.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JNBYBY - Chipping Campden is a market town in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England. It is notable for its terraced High Street, dating from the 14th century to the 17th century. (Chipping is from Old English cēping, 'market', 'market-place'
the same element is found in other towns such as Chipping Norton, Chipping Sodbury and Chipping (now High) Wycombe.)
A wool trading centre in the Middle Ages, Chipping Campden enjoyed the patronage of wealthy wool merchants, most notably William Greville (d.1401). The High Street is lined with buildings built from locally quarried oolitic limestone known as Cotswold stone, and boasts a wealth of vernacular architecture. Much of the town centre is a conservation area which has helped to preserve the original buildings. The town is an end point of the Cotswold Way, a 102-mile long-distance footpath.
Chipping Campden has hosted its own Olympic Games since 1612.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JPDJB2 - Bulmers cider is one of a number of brands owned by British cider maker H. P. Bulmer of Hereford. It is one of the biggest selling British bottled cider brands in the UK because it has the highest concentration of apples, with a number of variants including Bulmers Original & Pear. It should not be confused with Bulmers Irish Cider, sold outside the Republic of Ireland as Magners.
History
Fred and Percy Bulmer grew the apples at their family orchard at Credenhill in Herefordshire which would be later used to make the cider for which they became known. Production was initially at Ryelands Street in Hereford, the original buildings, including cider cellars survives today as the Cider Museum and King Offa Distillery. Production moved to the current Plough Lane site in the late 1970s. Today HP Bulmer makes 65% of the UK's five hundred million litres of cider sold annually, and the bulk of the UK's cider exports. From 1937 to 1949, Bulmers operated with Wm. Magners of Clonmel, expanding into Irish distribution markets. From 1949 Magners withdrew from this partnership but retained rights to trade under the name HP Bulmer Ltd in Ireland.
In 2003, the Hereford-based firm was bought for £278 million by Scottish & Newcastle (S&N) with the loss of some 200 jobs initially. In 2008, S&N were bought for £7.8 billion by the Carlsberg and Heineken groups. Bulmers now only survives as a brand name and subsidiary of the Dutch Heineken group, with operations in Hereford scaled back to focus mainly on the production of cider.
During spring 2006, the company relaunched Bulmers Original in the UK, aimed at the served over ice market, which had grown in popularity over the past few years. Bulmers Original is a 4.5% ABV cider, primarily sold in pint bottles (568 ml). In November 2007, Bulmers pear cider was launched

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2CB00AE - Yorkshire Cheapest Pint To Rise By A Quid Now Lockdown Is Over
We've all enjoyed the pubs reopening this month. Whether you went out, or you stayed at home and decided to see what happens, it's nice to see a little bit of normality getting back into society although, it does seem like this is the calm before the storm.
The biggest question now? Whether our beloved locals can survive through this turbulent time, which is expected to see people spending much less now that jobs are being axed and workers continue to live off the furlough scheme.
One brewery that has felt the pull is Yorkshire's oldest, Sam Smith. Founded in 1758, Sam Smith's pubs are the most traditional pubs you'll find in England. They like to stick to traditions such as no phone, swearing and a big push on a social and fun time that pubs have always been focused on.
One of their biggest pushes, and one that Yorkshire folk have always enjoyed, is the fact that they've managed to keep the price of a pint as one of the cheapest in the country without skimping on quality.
But even they've struggled post-lockdown, and have announced that they'll be hiking up the prices of some of their favourite beers by as much as £1. Taddy Lager will rise from £2.30 to £3.40 and their Soveriegn Bitter price will go from £2.04 to £3.04. You can hear the Yorkshireman's cry already Hooow muuchh?'.
Reports from The Sun show a Sam Smith's landlord saying: It's a heck of a price hike I don't know how I'm going to explain it to the customers. It's not going to make reopening after the lockdown any easier. The report also shows that Sam Smith pubs won't be the only ones implementing price changes, with Wetherspoons pubs set to be making the change too.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K3XNA1 - The Thatchers company was founded by William Thatcher in 1904. His son Stanley Thatcher, born in 1910, began selling draught cider to pubs in Somerset and the company's presence in the area grew. The company is still family owned and employs around 200 people. In 1992 Martin took over from his father, John Thatcher, as managing director.
It has 500 acres of its own orchard, as well as using apples from other growers in the area. Alongside its bush orchards, Thatchers has pioneered a method of growing its apple trees in a hedgerow style. Trained on wires, this enables easier harvesting and also helps to ensure the fruit has the optimum combination of sunlight and rain. It has also led to the development of a new bespoke harvester. At the height of season, Thatchers can press 500 tonnes of apples per day. Thatchers also maintains an exhibition orchard in which over 458 different varieties of apple tree are grown. Many of the traditional ciders produced at Myrtle Farm are matured in 100-year-old oak vats, which gives the cider a distinctive taste.
In addition to its cider production, Myrtle Farm is the UK's biggest processor of blackcurrants, dealing with 90 per cent of the UK's total crop, which it processes on behalf of Ribena.
Thatchers Cider is available in many sports clubs and events across the South West. They are involved with teams including Winscombe R.F.C., Bath Rugby, Somerset County Cricket Club, Bristol Rugby, Bristol City, Yeovil Town, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, Bristol Rovers, Plymouth Argyle F.C, Exeter City and Torquay United.
Thatchers are also involved in many local events and festivals including: Glastonbury Festival, Royal Bath and West Show, Bristol International Balloon Fiesta and Cambridge Folk Festival.
Thatcher's lost their ongoing cider sponsorship of the Glastonbury festival in 2019 to Mallets cider

Its a historic Art Nouveau Grade II masterpiece of a pub was built in 1905 on the site of a Dominican friary. The building was designed by architect H. Fuller-Clark and artist Henry Poole, both committed to the free-thinking of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Jolly friars appear everywhere in the pub in sculptures, mosaics and reliefs. We are lucky to still be here as our wonderful pub was saved from demolition by a campaign led by Sir John Betjeman.

A truly compact place awash with old Tay ferry crossing timetables, metal signs and Beer/Whisky mirrors. A true one off and one of my watering holes whenever I get the chance to pop into the old town. Unfortunatly no longer has Cressers brush shop opposite.
This place is up there in the premier league of classic pubs with the Crown in Belfast, Philharmonic in Liverpool www.flickr.com/photos/hotpixuk/3804831303/ and the Circus Tavern in Manchester.
