Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JRFEW4 - Virgin Money is a financial services brand used by two independent brand-licensees worldwide from the Virgin Group. Virgin Money branded services are currently available in Australia and the United Kingdom. The brand formerly operated in South Africa and the United States.
Each Virgin Money branded entity acts independently from the others, thus the products vary from country to country.
Virgin Money currently has operations in the United Kingdom, the company was initially established as a personal finance company under the name of Virgin Direct in 1995, and the Virgin Money brand itself was introduced in 2000. Virgin Money vastly increased its size and customer base in 2012 with the purchase of the so-called 'good bank' portion of the nationalised Northern Rock bank.
In 2018, the entire UK operation of Virgin Money was sold to CYBG plc in a £1.7bn all-share deal which made the group the sixth-largest bank in the UK. On 31 October 2019 CYGB plc changed its name to Virgin Money UK plc.
In September of 2021, announced the closure of 31 branches and elimination of 112 jobs across Scotland and the north of England as it adapts to changing customer demand.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JRJ9R2 - Central Pier is one of three piers in the town of Blackpool, England, and was built in 1868.
The pier is central in that it is located between the other two, but it was close to the site of the now-defunct Blackpool Central railway station about 550 yards south of Blackpool Tower. Since the coastline is very straight and flat, the pier simply extends at right angles to the sea front, roughly level with the promenade.
The success of the North Pier prompted the formation of the Blackpool South Jetty Company one year later in 1864. Impressed with the construction of Blackpool Pier (North Pier), the company hired the same contractor, Richard Laidlaw and Son of Glasgow for the project. This time, however, the company used the designs of Lieutenant-Colonel John Isaac Mawson rather than those of Eugenius Birch. When the pier was opened on 30 May 1868, it was 503 yards in length, 131 yards of which was a landing jetty for use at low tide. The first manager of the pier was Robert Bickerstaffe, coxswain of the first Blackpool lifeboat. Blackpool's lifeboat station is located next to Central Pier.
From the start, the new pier's emphasis was on fun rather than the genteel relaxation provided at North Pier. In the early days fun was provided mainly by dancing facilities, but in the 20th century, roller skating was introduced along with fairground rides and amusement machines. Steamboat excursions departed from the landing jetty as they did from North Pier. The dance halls became less popular after the Second World War and the facilities were adapted into a theatre, bars and amusement arcades by the 1970s

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JRJ9RW - Central Pier is one of three piers in the town of Blackpool, England, and was built in 1868.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JRM413 - A cigarette is a narrow cylinder containing burnable material, typically tobacco, that is rolled into thin paper for smoking. The cigarette is ignited at one end, causing it to smolder
the resulting smoke is orally inhaled via the opposite end. Cigarette smoking is the most common method of tobacco consumption. The term cigarette, as commonly used, refers to a tobacco cigarette, but the word is sometimes used to refer to other substances, such as a cannabis cigarette or an herbal cigarette. A cigarette is distinguished from a cigar by its usually smaller size, use of processed leaf, and paper wrapping, which is typically white.
Since the 1920s, scientists and doctors have been able to link smoking with respiratory illness. Researchers have identified negative health effects from smoking cigarettes such as cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart disease, and other health problems relating to nearly every organ of the body. Nicotine, the psychoactive drug in tobacco, makes cigarettes highly addictive. About half of cigarette smokers die of tobacco-related disease and lose on average 14 years of life. Every year, tobacco cigarettes kill more than 8 million people worldwide
with 1.2 million of those being non-smokers dying as the result of exposure to second-hand smoke. Second-hand smoke from cigarettes causes many of the same health problems as smoking, including cancer, which has led to legislation and policy that has prohibited smoking in many workplaces and public areas. Cigarette smoke contains over 7,000 chemical compounds, including arsenic, formaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide, lead, carbon monoxide, acrolein, and other poisonous substances. Over 70 of these are carcinogenic

The proposed city centre £30M hotel, has been designed with the environment in mind and boasts a contemporary façade sympathetic to the surrounding buildings and has low carbon emissions and low energy demands.
The steel frame structure includes the provision of basement parking, whilst using a simple and refined pallet of materials that are warm and tactile in texture. The façade features large format/deep reveal openings that are sympathetic to the surrounding warehouses and will ensure the project is a striking addition to the Manchester skyline.

Is This Desire? is a 1998 (see 1998 in music) album by British singer-songwriter PJ Harvey.
Recorded on and off in Dorset and London between April 1997 and April 1998, it was co-produced by Flood, Head and Harvey herself, and featured instrumental contributions from Rob Ellis, John Parish, Mick Harvey, Eric Drew Feldman, Joe Gore and Jeremy Hogg. It marked a move away from Harvey\u2019s earlier guitar-driven rock style into subtler, quieter, atmospheric soundscapes and mood pieces based around keyboards, bass and electronics.
The album met with a mixed reception from critics and fans upon release, some of whom were disappointed by Harvey\u2019s experimental and less bombastic new style. Reviews were generally positive, however. Q magazine praised the record as 'disturbing and excellent', CMJ called it 'another milestone in her already illustrious career', and Entertainment Weekly said it 'seethes with hypnotic power'
the magazine Dazed &
Confused claimed 'Is This Desire? will be a classic of the next 10 if not 20 years.
It has the impeccable timing of jazz, the arrangement of a classic dance track, the depth of an orchestral symphony and the emotional charge of gospel.' It received a Grammy Award nomination as Best Alternative Music Performance of 1998. Although it did not sell as well as her 1995 commercial breakthrough To Bring You My Love, it did spawn her biggest UK hit with the single 'A Perfect Day Elise'
a second single, 'The Wind', also dented the UK Top 30.
Blackpool Illuminations is an annual Lights Festival, founded in 1879 and first switched on 18 September that year, held each autumn in the English seaside resort of Blackpool on the Fylde Coast in Lancashire.
Also known locally as The Lights or The Illuminations, they run each year for sixty-six days, from late August until early November at a time when most other English seaside resorts' seasons are coming to an end. Dubbed as 'the greatest free light show on earth', they are 6 miles (10 km) long and use over one million bulbs. The display stretches along the Promenade from Starr Gate at the south end of the town to Bispham in the north.
In 2011 the Illuminations will shine from 2 September to 6 November 2011

Infra Red Film from Kodak (HIE) has been used here. This film used to have to be loaded, unloaded and developed in absolute darkness. Results could be rewarding though as this shot on a hot summers day shows. Blue sky becomes inky black, warm skin glows. Foliage comes up like snow.
To get something similar with any summer shot with blue sky and green grass, in Photoshop try the following:
